last thought before i sleep i Do fear that reading nothing but fanfiction for 4 years when i was 14-18 severely stunted my brain. this is not to say that fanfiction is bad: theres fanfics that are extremely well written, which are markers of any good authors out there- but since it relies so heavily on building off of a foundation and reforming the same work over and over they tend to follow a certain flow and pattern in plot, the way characters interact, the way dialogue and action intersect, etc etc. ive been trying to read more books now but i still find it easier to read through fanfic because instinctively, i know what to expect going forward because of my existing knowledge of the characters and the fanon. you have to wash out your brain and prepare to engage anew when youre reading a new book, which takes more effort the longer youre away from it. but thats just me and i can write a fucking paper on the ways fic marketing has its own popular checks and standards as well

#i was thinking about this again bc i remembered this one twitter post of a teen struggling to read a book for class #so they word replaced the names with fandom names and they read that shit easily #like oooh please. i know characters can bring you comfort when you need it but reading new things sometimes Does make you uncomfortable #and the purpose is to have you question why... not to easily glaze over it because you have put on the Ship Colored Lenses over it #but im being some odd flavor of hypocrite im sure. whatever. everyday i bemoan myself #chat

Zenji is such a fun, unpredictable guy in the way that every character cue used on him screams "Traditional! Japanese!!" but then he opens his mouth and it's just a barrage English loanwords one after another. 😂

he actually sounds far more elegant (befitting of the whole Dramatic Poet trope) in the English loc, imo. 😅

#guy who dubbed himself Natsume Soseki of the Reiwa Era (i believe in him)#tokyo debunker #zenji kotodama #hotarubi #i didn't play tkdb with sound on when i read chapter 3 (i was in public) so my first impression of him was “oh so he's like #the dramatic poet. got it.“ but then i switched my game's language to JP and i was like #何言ってんのコイツ…😭#i'm so serious when i said zenji sounds far more elegant in the English loc than he originally is (talking abt his wording/choice of words)#like they're both convey the same feel of grandiose(?) but #JP zenji is like..... just imagine a guy who keep using foreign words in his everyday vocabulary #and i'm not talking in the nuance of bilingual people code switching mid-sentences

this chapter/episode gives me poetry emotions. like i don't even need to read poems about attention & transience & quiet beauty & connection & loss & growth and about sharing them with other people anymore because i just hear origami say "thank you for the beautiful sunset" and bam. same feelings.

#i watched it again 😭 hoping i would be able to articulate how it makes me feel but this is the closest i can come #it's literally just the same way it feels to read poetry #the ache!!!#natsume's book of friends #natsume yuujinchou #my posts #this episode is such a perfect microcosm of the series i feel. it's about finding and cherishing the precious things in everyday life #cherishing them because you will lose them someday. because they will pass. because you will grow #there will always be beauty and you will always have the opportunity to share it with someone. it might not be the same #beauty or the same someone as before. but that's okay. everything that touched you touched you even if only for an instant #that touch was real. that instant mattered #that's what life is. a series of fleeting instants #like poets work their whole lives to communicate this! to put this into words that can move someone the way this episode moves me #it feels to me like midorikawa(/the anime team) is the origami to the audience's natsume. she's sharing with us #the beautiful things she's encountered in gratitude for the audience's attention and care #and i in gratitude want to remember how she shared them with me and how they made me feel #THEY MADE ME FEEL LIKE CRYING FOR ONE MILLION YEARS. for the record
