So, I was reading a discussion between CN star rail players about how Aventurine's design is supposed to read less like "campy gay" and more like a big money business tycoon/gang boss, and I though that was so funny because on the same day I read that my dad came by while I was playing, pointed at Aventurine on the TV and said "is that a Yakuza game?"
Anyway here's business daddy Aventurine and crime mommy Stelle gonna have a nice dinner and then go bash Oswaldo's head in.

Sometimes Severus comes up to Minerva. Right up behind her when she's busy. He'll stand there for a good minute as she works on marking assignments and cursing the boy's youthful energy and brilliant eyes- both of which directly responsible for his finishing his work in half the time it takes her.
"What is it, Severus?" Minerva sighs. Might as well get the obligatory nonsense over and done with, she was due a dose of Severus's antics by now (Merlin forbid he go more than three days without bothering her with nonsensical questions or infuriating wit).
"Am I ugly, Minerva?" he asked. Never there was a being with such innocence in their voice.
Minerva took a moment to take in a breath and silently call on all her patience and all her strength. "Yes, very." Her tone was blunter than the knives used to decorate at Halloween- an incident with some particularly idiotic third years had them ban anything sharper than the corners of a book during the Halloween celebrations.
Severus gasped as if stabbed. "What? Minerva, I thought we were friends!"
Minerva snorted. "Any time we interact, it's completely against my will."
"Minerva! you lie so shamelessly it shocks me." Severus made as if to swoon, a hand clutching the right of his chest.
"You must be shocked; your heart isn't where it should be."
Honestly, Minerva had to admire the fact that the insolent little kitten did not falter in his dramatics with her pointing out the key flaw in his act. If anything, he seemed to be encouraged.
"Ay! The pain of the shock, it has spread throughout my chest! Ah, I cannot breathe!" Severus swayed on his feet, leaning against the chair that Minerva was sitting in. "Oh, how your lie shocks me!"
"Well, then, you had better tell me what exactly I lied about," Minerva said briskly, "before you gasp all the air out of your skinny little lungs, laddie."
"You said," the boy said, a sudden glint in his eye and none of the apparent weakness, standing to face her and one of those long, delicate fingers pointed straight at her, "you said, that our interactions are without your will."
"That is no lie, what part of this looks like it's my will?" Minerva replied, knowing full well she wasn't going to appreciate the cheeky answer Severus had prepared for her.
"Why, the part where you remain for my company, mother," Severus replied, his voice light. "Surely, if you didn't want this, you would have, in your infinite wisdom, simply have employed your great power and assumed your famous feline form and just walked away from me."
Minerva fought her smile. His cheek was infuriating while his logic impeccable. "Perhaps I am simply conversing my energy, you arrogant wee rascal."
"You? Too lazy to avoid a nuisance?" Severus scoffed. "Minerva, you wound me. Don't you know how I know you? You've done much more to avoid the mildest of annoyances, do you truly think I believe that you are here against your will merely to converse your energy?"
Minerva let him see the flicker of a smile disgusted as a smirk, letting the bothersome raven have a little treat for his cleverness, hinting to him that he had essentially won this particular argument. "At my age you no longer have the patience to waste on annoyances. You learn to value your peace. You will understand that some day, I hope, little one."
"And if I die, my hair still black and my skin still smooth?"
Merlin, did the child have a turn towards the morbid. Minerva ignored the voice in her that told her that this would have been a retort of her own had she been in a similar conversation.
"Then you'll die a fool."
"A fool, perhaps, but my funeral will be the biggest," he replied, moving to sit on her desk and grabbing the biscuit jar. Minerva intercepted, lifting it from his grip and replacing it with a towel. His protests died in his confusion at the towel, and Minerva huffed and began to wipe his hands as if he was a child. She did not trust him to correctly clean his hands after handling goodness knows what when experimenting with his potions and she didn't care if he knew it.
"Aye, and how did you figure that?" she asked.
"Surely if I die young, I shall be the first. Therefore you all will be part of the funeral-"
"What makes you think I would want to attend your funeral, you little rascal?" She let go of his hands, almost satisfied that they weren't contaminated.
Severus ignored her and instead took a biscuit from the jar. "You will all be there, therefore I will have the biggest funeral. If I die old, you all shall be gone, so my funeral will be the smallest."
Minerva tried not to think of how depressing that sounded, how lonely it seemed. For a brief moment she felt guilty for being so old and he so young. She involuntarily could see him in her mind's eye, going through their funerals until he stood alone. She and the others- Rolanda, Pomona, Poppy, even Fillus and Hagrid- they were all of an age, weren't they? They could expect their lives to reach the end around the same time, surely? Severus was but a child next to them, he'd stand alone one day.
Minerva tried to ignore the ache in her chest at the thought of him standing alone. Merlin, no. He was far too young. No.
"You truly are besotted with the morbid and the miserable, you melanchonic masochist," she said, her tone just a trifle too sharp to be a simple retort.
Severus paused, swallowing the biscuit. Then he answered. "Ah, but the morbid is much more fascinating, the forbidden has a certain thrill, dear mother." His voice was a little softer, and his fingers, slightly coated in crumbs, were gentle when he tapped her forehead. He was sorry he upset her.
"You and your thrills," Minerva scolded, "yet you cannot even eat a biscuit without making a mess of yourself." Yet even as she spoke, the hand that she used to swipe the crumbs away, was gentle, almost tender, in its movement. She had quite forgiven him.
How could she remain angry? At this boy who looked at her with a scowl of indignation yet whose deep, dark eyes twinkled with mischief and cleverness and brilliance, who stood taller than her, yes, yet was far more delicate in his build than she had ever been, whose hair was as dark as hers had been in her youth, carelessly falling across his forehead. No, she could not remain angry.
If only he had been in Gryffindor, perhaps then she would have noticed him sooner. Or rather, if only her eyes didn't only open for her Gryffindors. How this boy could ever look at her without resentment and anger, she didn't know. Then again, he had been so incredibly isolated and lonely, was it any wonder he let go of his rightful grudges and instead accepted her friendship?
Minerva blinked as if soot from the fireplace got in her eyes. She didn't want him to notice the tears that almost inevitably formed whenever she thought about him. Who would have thought that she'd cry so much for the little devil?
"I'll leave you to your work, dear mother," Severus said cheerfully, hopping off her desk.
"Aye, after you've cleared out my biscuit jar, you villain" Minerva grumbled, looking into the empty jar. Severus shrugged.
"You ought to see it as a compliment towards your taste, really," Severus said. "But I see I have taken the last of your patience"- for indeed, Minerva looked ready to strangle him- "so I shall take my leave. Good night, my good Headmistress, and may you have peace in the silver embrace of the moon!"
And with a laughing twinkle in his eye and a boyish bow, Severus Snape left the room.
Minerva sighed. She wasn't sure if it was out of relief, or because she may have felt some sorrow at his departure.
The door opened again, and a rather meek Severus poked his head in.
"Er, Minerva?" he asked.
"Yes, Severus?"
"Er." Severus stepped in, looking away from her, walking with the awkward gait of a newborn foal, and the nervousness of a deer. "Er, Minerva?"
"Yes, Severus?"
"Am I really ugly, mother?" His voice was a whisper. His raven hair curtained his face, hiding his shame at asking such a pathetic question, and his fingers picked at one of the cuticles of a nail.
Minerva smiled, and walked to him. Softly she brushed the boy's hair out of his face and gently tucked it behind his ear.
"Only as long as you let yourself believe it, dear heart."
#severus snape#pro snape#professor severus snape#minerva mcgonagall#professor mcgonagall#right this was supposed to be a silly piece where snape simply asks minerva if she thinks he's ugly she says yes (messing with each other)#only for him to come back later all insecure and her being like “ofc you arent ugly”#but somehow it got blended with my lther thought of her and sev having a conversation#where sev essentially jokes about dying young refusing to die last#a sort of dark irony if you will because he did in fact die young#a conversation minerva recalls after he's gone and how she was like Nonsense only for it to come true#so yeah there's definitely a bit of the foreshadowy reference to Sev's death#because i like to be angsty#also to be clear severus is in his twenties here#he's been at hogwarts as a teacher long enough now to be more playful and silly and a general nuisance#but also a little affectionate too in his own way#(and definitely seeking a lil reassurance)#and he's definitely been here long enough for minerva to have 1) adopted him 2) realise how she's responsible for his trauma here#and 3) have way too many what ifs and regrets#anyway sev being a playful lil shit gives me life what can I say he enjoys being dramatic#especially if it annoys minerva

"why not just make your own website?"
with the announcement of cohost's death and amidst all the other tumultuous shit currently going on with social media as a concept (i am AMAZED twitter has survived this long given the circumstances), one suggestion that i've been hearing a lot is "we should just go back to the good old days of personal websites. let's all just make neocities pages!!"
(this is gonna be a long one sorry)
and like. idk! it's certainly something i've considered, i think it would be a fun thing to have, but it also feels like the equivalent of "capitalism sucks so let's all just run off into the woods and live in a cabin outside of society" to me. like it would be nice, it would be fun, but it doesn't ultimately solve the actual problems that are present with the modern internet, it just evades them. more importantly in my case and many others, it does not really help people who rely on the modern internet and the connections they're able to make there for their income. sure i can make a website and host my art and blog posts there, but who's going to see it? i can't build a consistent audience and make a living off of random passersby who peek at my website once, say "huh, neat!" and MAYBE add it to an RSS feed or whatever if they really like it. there's minimal potential for meeting and impressing new people outside my existing circles if i don't ALSO still have some manner of social media platform to promote the website on.
a lot of the "solutions" i see people proposing for the slow, painful decline of social media as a user experience keep coming back to old-fashioned, more isolated/insular systems. we miss forums, we miss personal webpages, we miss newsletters, etc etc. but like... those things were ideal in the "old web" because the old web was more about sharing hobbies and interests with whoever happened to pass by and check them out, and even just USING the internet was a niche hobby in and of itself for a lot of people. if you wanna be kinda cynical about it (and not unjustifiably so), web 2.0 is much more blatantly business-oriented, and its algorithms and carefully crafted UX's are primarily meant to funnel you towards viewing ads and spending money on products. looking at it that way, it sure does suck and Everything Was Better Before! but the modern web is ALSO more powerful than anything before it for just like. connecting people. spreading information and news. showing your art/music/writing/thoughts/etc to strangers who never knew you existed an hour ago. putting the tools to reach out to someone and tell them you think they're cool right there on the same website where their art is hosted, just a comment or a message away.
if you're able to avoid patterns of engagement-bait and obsessing over follower counts as a measure of self-worth (a big "if", i realize, but i view it like installing an adblocker - it's just kind of a basic prerequisite for modern internet safety and survival), a lot of these systems can genuinely be really positive and life-changing in ways that were simply not possible 20 years ago! almost all of my current closest friends are people I met through sharing our art on platforms like Twitter who were complete strangers at the time. all of the art clients that regularly pay my bills and support my work came from places like that too! the "social" part of "social media" is really what makes it ultimately worth keeping around in any form, and makes the pursuit of a Good social media platform still valuable.
there's a lot to love about the old web - its aesthetics, simplicity and freedom for personal expression - but every time someone says "just delete your socials and make a personal website" i am forced to confront the fact that i could never do what i currently do or be the person i am on the old web. if i was stuck hanging out in my own little space and only ever interacting with people who openly and loudly share my interests, i couldn't support myself with art full-time, i probably would never have met the kind and quiet strangers who are now my best friends and have made me who i am, and i'd just generally get a lot less insight into the vast range of experiences and perspectives that exist outside of my own. my life would be on a fundamentally different trajectory in countless ways without the advent of web 2.0.
and that's not to say "well twitter and facebook and tumblr all suck but you kinda still have to hand it to them" cuz you don't, obviously. they're corporations, and their job is to take the personalities and thoughts and art of the people who use their products and try to scrunch it all into something uninform and marketable that generates profit and pleases their shareholders. but like, you CAN still make a good thing out of them! these websites are tools just as much as geocities or myspace or IRC used to be. and the one thing these newer tools are pretty much all REALLY good at is discoverability. if you're just a hobbyist at the things you wanna share on the internet, then you likely don't have a lot of use for those tools, and perhaps you WOULD genuinely be happier just keeping a personal blog site or hanging out in private groupchats or sticking to specialized federated Mastodon instances or whatever. it just isn't feasible for me, and there are a LOT of people in my same situation. my entire industry of online freelance artists barely existed 20 years ago, and the web culture of that era is largely incompatible with my continued survival in the mid-2020s. i would LOVE to run off and live in the woods in concept, but all my survival skills are adapted for city living and i would just eat the wrong berry and die out there. i want- i NEED people to try and improve the spaces we're in, and support better forms of social media (like what cohost was trying and largely succeeding to do!) instead of just complaining that it all sucks, everything was better when we were kids, and digging ourselves little holes to hide in. much like all the other problems and frustrations and systemic issues of the world we live in, the modern web isn't going to go away if you just ignore it, so we may as well try to make it better for everyone.
anyways tl;dr i probably WILL make a neocities at some point. it could be fun, even if it doesn't help my career stability or whatever. but i do also need ALL THE SOCIAL PLATFORMS I USE FOR MY JOB TO STOP EXPLODING PRETTY PLEASE, and failing that, some actual half-decent alternatives that aren't going to fizzle out in a month would also be great thanks ✌
#buny text#webbed site#long post#sorry this one got embarrassingly long and i probably repeated myself a lot#i've just essentially had this same conversation like 8 times in the past 24 hours and wanted to actually put my thoughts somewhere public#i hope it doesn't come off like i'm snapping at anyone either. i know this suggestion is always made out of a desire to be helpful#and i do appreciate it and have given it no shortage of thought#i just needed to explain why it isn't a viable solution for everyone and why actual good usable social platforms are still important

Wait! So Sun and Moon can talk to each other!?! (DFtR au)
Not only that, but they're usually conscious/aware no matter who's fronting. Consider the moment in chapter 1, when Sun appeared distracted after seeing you there, and again, in chapter 2, when he went quiet but reacted like he was being scolded. These are both scenes where he and Moon were talking to each other.
They often disagree on how to go about handling certain situations, especially when Sun fumbles and says or does something he shouldn't (like the rambling fish metaphor, for example).
This results in moments between them that often look something like this 👇
#DFtR au#they are in constant contact with each other#if there is even a BRIEF pause in the conversation you can assume he's talking to Moon#or Moon is talking to him#the only time this isn't true is when one of them is ''sleeping''#which is essentially just stepping away from front and metaphorically burying their head in sand for a while#which only Moon ever does. normally when he gets overwhelmed

You guys.
Dolores sent me some notes from a trade show session she attended so I could use them to write a blog post for our website. The notes were taken by AI, and apparently she forgot to shut it off as soon as the session was over because it transcribed a very personal conversation.
This includes some details about practical jokes played on other groups, some light conversation about drinking, nothing super inappropriate, but then — and I don’t know if it’s her or someone she’s with — a story about how one of the sales people (who they name) took off all their clothes last year in the ice bar in Vegas AND SHE SENT THESE NOTES TO ME WITHOUT REALIZING ANY OF THAT WAS IN THERE.
I’m absolutely DYING, but also I . . . don’t know what to do?
Do I tell her?
Do I pretend I didn’t notice?
#This is not a reasonable emotionally regulated person#I’m not sure how she’d react if she knew I’d essentially eavesdropped on this conversation#even if it IS 100% her fault that it happened#remember when we had the wave of people who were accidentally naked or using the toilet on Zoom meetings?#these AI recordings are going to be the next wave of terrible faux pas#watch what you say at any potentially recordable event

in fact, academy!rukia and HM!orihime are so similar, no wonder rukia took to her so quickly - to the point where ukitake even remarked about it. the obvious choice for that scene would have been ichigo, her established protégé, but it's orihime that kubo singles out as a way to show rukia's own maturity and development. she's not that girl anymore, and her mentoring orihime is a sign of her growth! rukia understands orihime, and she has such a tenderness for orihime that's very similar to rangiku's own attitude. there's this very "gosh, you're so silly (affectionate)" vibe both rangiku and rukia give off around orihime - not in a patronizing way, but in a "this is what growing pain feels like, trust me, i've been there and you'll laugh at yourself in a few years" way. i imagine that, as a teenager, orihime feels very embarrassed about feeling the things she feels (and all her feelings are so Big and Out There in a way that feels so difficult to hide), but having the wisdom of older women guiding her must have felt so comforting.
and this is especially fun to see with rukia, because while rukia's yell-and-motivate approach works with ichigo, it notably...doesn't with orihime. she has to use a more empathetic, gentle approach. and while rukia did "train" ichigo, the extent of her training was pretty much the equivalent of reading off the training manual. ichigo's journey as a shinigami was so wild and unexpected that there really was very little rukia could have prepared him for. but, even if we don't get a detailed look at her training with orihime, you get the sense that it's more formal, more serious. rukia is doing actual combat training with orihime, something she's never done with ichigo (and maybe never had to, considering his crazy growth spurt and learning-as-he-goes approach). and, unlike ichigo, you get the sense that rukia and orihime's methodology is more precise, practiced. ichigo is all energy, burst burst burst, straight-to-bankai (which is funnily/ironically more similar to renji's approach). but kido-user rukia, whose zanpakuto involves meticulous technique and even choreography, seems like a better fit as a mentor for someone like orihime, who is just as contained (see: other characters comparing her technique to kido; that one time she created a perfect sphere at kukaku's house – and was praised for her control). rukia not only supports her emotionally, she trains her in combat, which is not something we've ever seen her do. for her to take orihime to her own home, invest that much time and energy into orihime's learning...no wonder ukitake was surprised. it's the first time we've REALLY seen what rukia can be as a slow and patient Mentor and not just the girl who stuck a sword in a boy's chest and has to stick around to ensure he doesn't fuck things up because he accidentally "absorbed" all her powers. this is not to diminish ichigo and rukia's importance to each other, but neither of them chose or intended for things to be that way at the start. orihime and rukia's friendship is more intentional, more kind, because orihime isn't a stranger to rukia anymore and rukia isn't a stranger to orihime. i always think about that one scene where, after ichigo promises to protect orihime, orihime accepts ichigo's feelings, but she also turns around and thanks rukia/welcomes rukia back, as if rukia is just as essential to that moment, in orihime's head. as if rukia is just as essential to her as ichigo is.
#it's a shame kubo uses training sequences sparingly bc i would have loved to see actual scenes of their training montage + conversations#i get that he's a read-between-the-lines guy but it's a missed opportunity imo. i don't think anyone would've begrudged a training montage#between two MAIN characters 💀 esp characters as essential to the bleach mythos as rukia and orihime are#these are the things filler could've capitalized on if he gave them notes or something. these in-between scenes that he didnt expand on#for whatever reasons#bleach has soooo many characters but this is one of the things that would have made it feel tightly knit around the main cast#like i can def imagine how it must've went down just fine but it would've been cute to see!#elaborate training sequences are basically a shonen birthright!#rukia & orihime

Something interesting I've noticed about conversion stories is many people seem to have both a rebellious streak and a deep-seated, insatiable desire to learn everything.
One of my shul's well-respected members (who runs the hebrew/judaism class that will start soon) talked about how, when he lived in my town, he would sneak out of the house just to go to shul. That's what I'm doing now, and it's funny (I'm not sneaking out per se, but I am also not telling anybody I'm going to shul). There's an aspect of free-spiritedness that I notice in many converts, and it's fascinating to hear each of their stories. And you know the funniest part? They sound like my story.
#jumblr#jew by choice#jewish conversion#personal thoughts tag#sorry i'm posting so much 💀#but i have been noticing this A Lot#and i don't think its essential to be converting/converted but i think there's a reason that converts tend to have similar feelings/thought#i think the unifying trait is the desire to leave one thing and come home to another#i think for that to happen you tend to have a lot of free spirits and a lot of faith and trust#for me it's hard but i also have that in-born need to fly away - to go home and never look back#i don't say rebellious to mean bad but more like... you aren't 'adhering' to the life you were brought up in#i had rebelled against xtianity before finally accepting that i will never and cen never force myself to believe in it#and i think that's where some peoples' rebellious streak starts#again sorry i'm posting every tiny miniscule thought but B''H for guiding the story of our lives#it was SO cool and welcoming to hear that [member] grew up in my town and we go to the same shul
