❥﹒♡﹒☕﹒ 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗶'𝗺 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 as an exchange student who's not a party animal
. study day by day ( 🪴 )
i am a big procrastinator and when it comes to exams, too often i have left it to the last minute and pulled all-nighters to get high grades, but due to the spanish school system, which includes many more partial exams and midterms than italy (actually there aren't any in italy at all) i will be "forced" to change this tendency of mine, the goal is to study the lessons on the very same day so as to have a greater margin for revision that will allow me to secure my knowledge.
𝟮. allow time to rest/recharge ( 🔌 )
i once read a sentence: "if you have two minutes to do something, it will take you two minutes, but if you have two hours, it will take you the whole two hours". concentrating for a few hours a day, but in an effective and meaningful way is perhaps my biggest dream, this year i will do my best to limit the hours of study and dedicate time to rest and tourist activities that my year in spain will reserve for me (parties and hangouts included).
𝟯. learning a new language ( ⭐ )
i don't speak spanish at all, but i understand it very well. studying and living here for a whole year will definitely help me develop my linguistic/grammatical knowledge to start a deeper study of the language. the more languages you know, the better.
𝟰. get out of my comfort zone ( 🦋 )
as an introvert, i often find myself, especially during stressful times, retreating to my room, wrapped in the comfort of my favorite books and series. the real challenge will be to abandon the safe place for the unknown and finally embrace the idea that the unknown is beautiful, that it has breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, and that any scars that might come from it are as precious as diamonds.
𝟱. being proud of myself ( 🍋 )
realizing that i'm doing well, that the me from a year ago who was afraid of failing the university entrance exam has not only now completed her first year of architecture with excellent results, but now lives alone in a foreign country. a year ago i would never have believed it, so i should be proud of it, and not fear that i'm not enough. there is a lot to improve, but celebrating victories is equally important as aiming for the top.

The Kellynch Hall Yearbook: Volume XIII
I think Sally has good reason to fear that Louie could be losing interest in their relationship - they're out on a date with...
Joanna. The pair met at a recent party, and Louie (with their penchant for brunettes) was quick to snatch the opportunity to get to know the quiet but intriguing Joanna better.
Despite her usual reserve, Joanna is utterly charmed by the smooth-talking Louie.
It's an unseasonably mild night, so the pair opt for an intimate dinner at an outside table.
My favourite restaurant host - Susie Willis - is of course in attendance.
It was a lovely evening, and the next day Louie can't help preening a little, while Sally can only be left wondering what has put them in such a good mood. William is just completely Zenned out on the cafeteria floor, with his morning coffee.
Party time again.
Interspersed with some inevitable class attendance.
As everyone approaches the end of their second year at DBU, it comes as no surprise when Erasmus offers Edward his heart, forever (or at least until he dies, and his atoms return to the universe), and a very shiny ring - and that Edward doesn't hesitate to say yes!

living in another country and speaking another language all day is one of my favourite things so far.
it's not as difficult as I thought, and I've known lots of people.
I mainly speak Spanish, but some students prefer English, and there are also Italians, so, if I'm tired, I mix up all the languages and the funniest things come out lmao.

17.12.2022
Ok so. The cheap recipes i have survived with (on student exchange on norway). Also general info for max cheapskateyness, like where to find sales etc.
1. Fried noodles with salted peanuts
Noodles 5 pack 1.7e (the cheapest ones)
Peanuts 200g 2.3e
Any spices you find! Most preferably: paprika, curry, chili, ginger (ground), garlic 2 -4 cloves or 1 teaspoon of ground garlic + soy sauce (forget kikkoman it's hella expensive? Go to an "ethnic" store to find a bigger bottle of soy sauce, i used "healthy boy brand" thin soy sauce, the 1l bottle will last all eternity)
Boil the noodles or let them sit in a cup with boiling water until soft (for the love of god and all holies do not touch the cheap noodles' own spice packet)
Pour out excessive water
Take a small pan and pour the noodles in (if u use fresh garlic crush them or cut em up and fry them a lil bit while the noodles "boil"
Add all the spices, a bit of any oil (or butter) and 1-4 teaspoon/s of soy sauce
Stir fry until the noodles look sticky and fried
Add salted/chili peanuts on top
2. 4 ingredient pasta
Tips! Cheapest pasta is usually spaghetti that you can buy in bulk, like in spar norway 1kg of cheapest spaghetti is 18 kr (1.7e). Use ripoff brands that the shops have, lile "x-tra" "first price" or "eldoraro" in here. Cheapest crushed tomatoes pack is 70 kr (0.65e) for 250g.
Start boiling the pasta of your choice and simultaneously start cutting the garlics. You can also use garlic crusher, it's faster. Add a little bit of salt to the pasta water.
Fry your garlics. Add in drained chickpeas (any beans work) 9 kr/0.9e per pack. Add in the crushed tomatoes.
Add in any spices you can find, preferably: onion, rosemary, herb mix, chili, pepper
Drain the pasta and add in approx ¼ or ⅓ of the sauce
Leftover sauce goes to a box and to the fridge. I do not recommend storing pasta for further eating, it can go bad too fast
3. Seljanka soup
You will need:
Cheap crushed tomatoes, potatoes, (canned) mushrooms, cabbage, bay leaf, russian pickles (or fermented pickles w garlic and dill, do not add in those with sugar!) Or just 1 table spoon of cooking vinegar, cheap frozen vegetable mix (with carrots and celery etc), salt, pepper, clove spice, herb mix w rosemary, any beans, onion, garlic
Start with peeling and dicing the potatoes, cut onions and garlics. Start boiling them with ¼ of full kettle volume of water + add the bay leaves (2 will do for 3l of soup)
Add in cut cabbage, vinegar, pickles (cut) and the spices. Add the crushed tomatoes and water if it's too stewy.
Let boil for 10 min
Add in the canned mushrooms (rinsed) and the frozen veggies and beans
Let boil for 10-20 min or until the potatoes are soft
You can either freeze or store the leftovers in a fridge
Price info: 1kg cabbage 5-20kr /0.4-2e, 2kg of potatoes 20-40kr/2-4e, jar of russian pickles 20-30kr, spices all mentioned probs like 10e (only gotta buy these once!), 2/3 big onions 20-25 kr, 2 garlics 23kr
4. Marinated beans + mashed potatoes
Take a container or a bowl. Add in 1 packet of rinsed chickpeas. Add in 2-4 tablespoons of soy sauce.
Add a bit of oil so the beans wont dry when storaged in the fridge
Add spices, preferably garlic, herbs, ginger, chili, pepper (no salt needed since the soy sauce is very salty)
Let sit for 1-2h in the fridge
Boil peeled potatoes. Pour out water. Mash them with a masher or a fork with a bit of added water/milk/melted butter if u can afford it. Add salt.
Other valuable info!
Cheapest stores (in norway) for vegetables/canned things: kiwi, extra, obs
Cheapest store for sales: obs, eurospar
Best "kuppdisk" (-50% shelf for soon to expire products) Any big markets such as eurospar and obs. Here u can find cheap meat/dairy/veggies. They have kuppdisk for veggie section, dry section and meat/dairy/frozen goods section
Download the app "e tilbundsavis" to get info what is on sale where. It's in norwegian but very easy to understand (use google translator to search items in the app, like "coffee" or "chips")
Cheapest instant coffee is friele but it tastes like crap. Nescafe brasileiro is tiny bit more expensive but so much better.
Learn to make your own popcorn in a kettle, there's youtube tutorials for that. So much cheaper than micro popcorn.
For alcohol you are damned. I would suggest buying the cheapest big (0.75 litre for 30kr) vodka bottle and mixing it with different sodas/juices. Note! Only Vinmonopolet store sells other than beer like normal stores. Check opening times, they are strict. U gotta be over 20 to buy vodka in norway, wine u can get at 18. Or ask someone u know to buy vodka for u. Or when traveling to norway get your vodka as a "gift" from the airport in your home country. It's still cheaper.
There's snack sales from time to time like 5 bars of 200 choco for 100kr. It seems like much but normally one 200g bar is 44kr. Also chips can get -50% sales, check the "tilbundsavis" app every other day so u wont miss them.
Do NOT shop in Joker mini stores or gas stations. Hella expensive. Uh oh. And for the love of All do not doordash, u will bancrupt yourself (unless u are rich but then u don't need these tips anyways).
Make as much from scratch as u can. There's plenty of "cheap/simple cooking for idiots" type vids on youtube.
For snus/tobacco i don't know the prices bc i don't use them. Probably quite expensive. Check how much u can take with u from home without taxes if u use them.
People with ovaries! Period products are expensive too. Cheap brands work just as fine. Or take a couple extra packs with u.
The winter is long and it's recommended to take vitamin supplements (especially vitamin D). There's sales for those too, team up with people u know for things like "3 for 2" in vitamins. Usually the sales start when it begins to get darker, in september.
If you have an injury/need the hospital, u can use your insurance or european health insurance card (for eu citizens it costs like 10e but then u can use the eu/schengen area hospitals with the same pricing as locals). There's student health services for free but those are for not for "major injuries", more like for check ups and teeth care.

Well guess who's officially applied to Erasmus. I'm not even fully done uploading all relevant documents and I'm already kinda regretting it. I will HATE myself for this next winter.
I'm not really doing it for the courses (they all somehow seem easier than what mine is offering) but for the french, but it'd be awkward if I misjudged things completely and this is all worthless to my degree because I already learned it in the bac.
#on the other hand - easy classes means more free time. not an experience I've ever had during the semester#I'm also stupidly paranoid bc I'll be Old Tm (a whopping 24) by that time (still younger than most ppl in my degree bc school system)#but the french system seems like it's more doing the schoolish thing where most ppl manage in min time (very rare here) and are thus younge#at least my first ranked place seems like that. “institute of applied sciences” is not “university of technology” after all#personal#erasmus

❥﹒♡﹒☕﹒ 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗺𝘂𝘀 pros and cons
a girl asked me to talk about my erasmus experience in the questions box and she inspired me to make this post. if you have posts to request don't be shy! unfortunately i don't have all the time i would like to uptade but i will try to keep up.
erasmus is a student mobility program of the european union that allows a european student to attend a school in another EU country for a period of time legally recognized by their home institution.
it is a temporary experience with many benefits, enabling students to engage with different cultures and customs. due to its non-permanent nature, i believe it is one of the most beautiful opportunities for a student to feel completely free to explore and understand themselves, to figure out what they want and do not want from their life and educational path.
but let’s start by discussing its downsides. unfortunately, not everything is perfect.
𝟭. paperwork ( 📄 )
hey, i know, guys, i'm not the first or the only one to say this, but the paperwork for erasmus is a pain in the ass. it's not only extremely complicated, but universities (mine for sure, but i know it's a common experience) provide zero help in filling out the documentation. especially if you're not familiar with bureaucracy (and at 20 it’s normal not to be familiar with these things), it can seem like an insurmountable mountain. but if i, someone who doesn’t understand anything about this stuff, managed to get through it, you can do it too. typically, the documentation includes:
various information like ID, health card, and the IBAN of an account in your name (or joint name) where they will deposit the scholarship.
learning agreement, another plague sent from hell because you usually have to deal with two professors, one from your university and one from the host university, who clearly would prefer to mop the sea than help you fill out your learning agreement.
financial agreement for the scholarship, which has specific deadlines by which you need to submit documents (usually IBAN, learning agreement, and acceptance letter from the host university). fun fact: i almost missed this and didn’t receive the scholarship because these deadlines were buried deep in my university’s website (don’t be like me, make sure to be informed well about the financial agreement or you risk being left without money).
the best advice i can give you is to find someone from your university who has already done the erasmus where you’re supposed to go and ask them for some information. they, having gone through it, know what mistakes to avoid and what’s best to do. the offices often assume too many things and give you insufficient and hasty information.
𝟮. finding an accomodation ( 🏡 )
this too, another pain in the ass. it depends on the city, but here in madrid, finding a place to live has been a nightmare (and indeed, i've significantly overshot the budget i had set for rent). you have various options for accommodation:
student dormitories these solutions may seem the best at first glance, but they aren’t always. here in madrid, the fees for the dormitories at my campus cost more than my current rent, plus having only one kitchen for an entire floor is not exactly optimal comfort, especially if, like me, you cook a lot.
apartment studio/flat this is definitely the most comfortable option, but also the most expensive. a studio outside the center in big cities can cost up to €1000 a month. however, if you can afford it and prefer privacy, then go for it. at first, living alone might not be easy, especially if it’s your first time away from family, but you’ll get through it quickly.
room in an apartment this can be the best or the worst option depending on your luck because having flatmates means cohabitation, which is not always pleasant. if you're going in erasmus with someone you know, it might be optimal to share an apartment or take two rooms in a larger flat. personally, i rented a room in an apartment with three other people (two bathrooms and a kitchen), and i couldn’t be happier; i love my flatmates, and we quickly became friends. we cook together, go out together, spend entire evenings chatting and joking and they helped me a lot overcoming the first crisis. i realize, though, that i am an exception, so choose your accommodation carefully.
in short, consider your choice based on 3 factors:
proximity to the university/public transport links i study outside of madrid, almost an hour by bus from my place, but i live practically across from the bus stop, so it’s not a problem at all.
centrality/connection to the city center you're in erasmus to experience the city!
comfort of the place such as private bathroom (very hard to find but not impossible), utensils, AC, appliances (we have a dishwasher at home, and i assure you it saves our lives everytime).
𝟯. homesickness ( 🤧 )
yes, everyone feels homesick, even the most stoic. but guarantee you, you'll get through it. first of all erasmus, fortunately or unfortunately, isn’t forever. it’s a 6 month/1 year experience that is incredibly valuable for your personal growth, at the end of this period of time, you'll be back home. secondly, you can always stay in touch with friends and family in the age of technology. those who truly love you will support you in this project and do everything they can to make you feel less lonely. lastly, during erasmus, you’ll make many amazing friendships and connections that you otherwise would never have the chance to make.
𝟰. language barrier ( 🦜 )
i can’t say much about this, i've never studied spanish in my life, but, since i'm italian, i have no trouble following the lessons and understanding people when they speak, even though i'm still not able to express myself well in this new language. however, by living in another country, you’ll learn the language much faster and more effectively than with any academic course. in just a month, i already feel much more comfortable with spanish, and everyday i learn new things.
and of course, i could talk for hours about the benefits of erasmus, but i might save my praises for a post i'll write later, towards the end of this experience.
i can tell you that in just a month here, a whole new world has opened up for me. not only is the thrill of being in another city, in another country, an electrifying flow of continuous energy, but i’ve also realized things about myself that i might have ignored before.
i have much more confidence in myself; i feel freer, less afraid of making mistakes. it’s true, i’m far from my family and friends, but this also means i’m far from all those eyes under which i always try to appear perfect.
i crave to see and learn, i'm eager to discover new things, and this drives me to do things i probably wouldn’t do in my home country, to appreciate their flavor and indulge in the uncertainty of "maybe i’ll like this".
for the first time, i’m experiencing a new country without the rose-tinted filter of a short vacation. i’ve never felt as rich and full of gratitude as i do now, and i hope this is a feeling every student can experience.
so, erasmus, yes or no? absolutely yes.
i’d love to keep updating you on my experience abroad. what do you think? would you like that? let me know in the comments! star kisses ⭐

I'll study abroad!
It's finally official, next September I will be an exchange student, and I'll spend 6 months in another country without knowing anyone there. I'm afraid lol.
I'm excited, of course; It's an opportunity to meet new people (god knows I need help with that), and have a taste of what it's like living alone. Of course, studying and doing chores and just, living, I guess.
But I'm also scared. I've seen that even just rooms are very expensive to rent, and i don't have that kind of money. I'll start working until i leave, but I don't know how the renting, food, clothes, and all that will go. Stay tuned, I suppose!
Also, the place I'll go is a small city in the Netherlands, but it's actually closer to Germany than to anything else in the country, lol. It's called Enschede, and it's beautiful. Look!
I'm not used to snow or cold, and i'll go during winter. I've never been to a place with temperatures below 0 degrees! Help lol.
I've been told that the university where I'll go is kinda disorganized, but I've discovered that in this uni and this city they take good care of exchange students. They have an Instagram Account dedicated to informing people of new activities and stuff to do, and I think that's amazing! One example is a post about how if you stay during Christmas, they have “Winter Buddies” to enjoy doing stuff with, like going ice skating. How adorable is that?
Honestly, as long as i figure out my money/renting/food issue, I know I will have a great time. Plus, it's only 2 and a half hours away from Amsterdam by train, I will go there on the weekends If I don't have anything better to do lol. I have six months to do whatever I want! (Well, not whatever, you know what i mean).
I want to go there now, I'm excited. Wish me luck!

The Kellynch Hall Yearbook: Volume XIV
We arrive just in time to join a meeting of the Kellynch Hall Hang-out Club - with Hester as a guest member - where everyone is nicely building their Charisma.
Outside, Joanna has dropped by, to leave a token of appreciation for her recent date with Louie.
Well, she is only a recent graduate herself, with not a lot of cash to spare I suppose!
Keziah and Marmaduke have finally stopped playing hard to get with each other.
James and Martha from Mansfield House have come over too, just to get engaged to each other it seems! This is the second time in four years that James has been affianced. Let's see if he can keep it in his pants this time...
It looks like Martha at least is intending to remain faithful - she lets a disappointed William know that any possible romance between them is now off-limits.
Meanwhile, there are fireworks for Keziah and Marmaduke.
And then it's back to the academic grind (in your underwear, if you're Erasmus).
