some combination of the post comparing dndads to the owl house & the MASSIVE HERMIE TWIST AT THE END OF 2.31 has me OBSESSED with Ordinary by Joriah Kwamé and Allie Grace as an Oakworthy song. I’m not being crazy right. Tell me that song isn’t Hermie trying to reconcile with betraying Normal and following through with his Chaparral HS mission when he’s been introduced to this whole new world of magic and love … guys …

The "Thanks to Them" intro remixed the show's main theme. Then, the "For the Future" intro remixed Eda's Requiem.
What's the finale's intro going to remix?
#the owl house#toh spoilers#the owl house spoilers#i'm thinking maybe... king's motif? the collector's motif?#the number 3 ranking iconic song after those first two would be enchanting grom fight#but idk if that would necessarily be relevant

Something cute I noticed while rewatching The Owl House is in Enchanting Grom Fight, Amity wants to ask Luz to Grom, but hesitates. Later, when Luz realizes that Amity was afraid of rejection, Luz ends up being the one to ask Amity to the dance. Task failed successfully.
Later, in Knock, Knock, Knockin’ on Hooty’s Door, Luz wants to ask Amity out, but hesitates. While Luz is trying to sort through her words, worried about rejection, Amity asks Luz to be her girlfriend. Again, task failed successfully!
I love them, I love that they wanted the same things, and when one was afraid to make a move, the other stepped in for them. Dorks in love, so beautiful 🩷

LGBTQ+ Disabled Characters Showdown Round 5, Poll 2
Please be civil in the notes. We will block people if we feel it is necessary. A character being canon LGBTQ+ and disabled was not required to be in this competition. Please check qualifications and propaganda before asking why a character is included. This is not a competition of who is better representation.
Check out the other polls in this round here.
Hua Cheng-Heaven Official’s Blessing / Tian Guan Ci Fu
Qualifications:
Hua Cheng is the main love interest in Heaven Official's Blessing, a ghost who has been in love with the hero Xie Lian for over 800 years. As if being dead isn't enough, he once clawed out his own eye in order to save a group of humans from marauding ghosts shortly before his ascension to Ghost King.
Propaganda:
Sexy pirate ghost king swag. Gay for His Highness.
Luz Noceda-The Owl House
Qualifications:
Canonically bisexual and shown in the show, never stated in the show but is also ADHD
She is bisexual and has ADHD.
Bisexual (canon) and neurodivergent (heavily coded)
bisexual adhd queen
Very cool character that shows children that it's okay to be disabled and in the LGBTQ community
Propaganda:
Has been through many of the troubles that I as an ADHD person have also been through, mainly regarding school. (Shown mainly in season 3)
She’s got a girlfriend, which is groundbreaking representation for a Disney cartoon (especially considering how she’s the main character). She’s also really determined and kind, having amassed a massive found family by the end of the show. Her ADHD causes her a number of problems throughout her journey, but it also makes her who she is.
I adore her and she had done nothing wrong in her life ever
SHES THE BEST EVER
People want to screw her for some reason so uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah
Anything Else?:
Canon girlfriend she has a canon girlfriend. And has crushed on both she/hers and he/hims (Submitter 1)
Enchanted Grom Fight was absolute bangers (Submitter 5)

✩ WEEKLY FIC ROUND-UP ✩
All the fics I’ve read and really enjoyed in the past week-ish. Reminder: This list features any and all ratings and themes. Please look at tags and warnings on ao3 before reading.
ATLA
all my skeletons out for the taking by 136108
Azula wins the Agni Kai, and the playing field shifts.
The Owl House
Grom Knight by ObabScribbler
Belos is dead. The Collector is defeated. The portal door is working again and everyone now just has to move on with their lives and rebuild normality as best they can. This is easier for some than for others.
When Willow invites Hunter to Grom, he assumes it is so that he, as a non-student of Hexside, can still be there to help Skara in her duties as Grom Queen. Emerald Entrails stick together, after all. Clearly there could be no other reason for Willow to invite him. This is all set to be a simple, friendly combined dance and fight with a demonic entity that reads minds and conjures your worst fears into reality. No biggie.
Except with Boscha and her crew of bullies around and feeling braver than ever, this Grom might not be as simple as they all hoped. Especially when Hunter discovers that being the reincarnated container of hundreds of years of Golden Guards' fears is a bad thing to be around a fear demon.
Clone Wars
and through the spaces of the dark by blackkat (+ podfic)
Jon's attempts to avoid a war he wants no part in are ended when Dark Woman drags him to Coruscant and straight to a posting with the Guard. He intends to keep his head down and do his work, but the mysteries around the Guard - and Fox - immediately have him in out of his depth and on uncertain ground.

Cliopher knew this could not, technically, be true. Thinking this thought, even in the quietest whisper in his deepest heart of hearts, was undeniably treason, but…. facts were facts: The Emperors of Astandalas, though worshipped as gods on earth, were each of them born a human being before they were apotheosized by the crown and by law and custom. Every human being had a soul; therefore, every human being had a daemon.
So the Emperors of Astandalas must have had daemons.

You may have noticed an unusual propensity for candor in your vicinity today?"
A reverse truth serum plot leads to Cliopher having a very strange day.

"Hello, hello, hello!” said his Radiancy’s serval. She said it, in words, in Shaian, in a pleasant voice that came from her little snout quite naturally. “Good morning!” “Good…morning…?” said Cliopher, too shocked to control his voice. His mongoose got out of his bag and scrambled up onto his shoulder with an excited little squeak, her claws prickling through the tunic. “I have good news and bad news!” the serval continued happily. “Don’t you want to know what it is?” Cliopher could only stare. “Good news, I’ve figured out how to talk!” She lashed her tail excitedly, and finished with her voice full of enormous glee, “Bad news… I’ve figured out how to talk.”
The entire city of Solaara wakes up one day attached to magical animals that display each person’s innermost self with no regard for court protocol or even basic manners. It’s pure chaos… and that’s before the Emperor accidentally gives the soul-animals the power of speech.

I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that I REALLY want an “Enchanted Grom Night” like fight scene with Chaggie. The idea of Charlie and Vaggie dancing with one another while battling….whomever, utilizing their strengths, sounds so cool! With Vaggie’s wings, there could be some good potential if them dancing in the air.
It’s a headcanon that Vaggie is the most experienced dancer of the group. I’m not sure how true that is or where that h/c came from but I’d love to see her use whatever dance skills she has. Plus, if it happens during that one allegedly abandoned episode where Charlie and Vaggie have to go to a dinner party, we’d get to see all of this while they’re wearing fancy clothes.

guys. you should go read this adorable graphic novel. sweet young closeted lesbian meets selkie merfolk and has unexpected summer romance.
a story of love and self-acceptance with angst, drama, cute seals, and awkward teen romance.
it’s called The Girl From the Sea and it’s by Molly Knox Ostertag - who is that, you ask? She is a cartoonist and a writer for memorable The Owl House episodes including Enchanting Grom Fight and Yesterday’s Lie as well as, oh? The wife of ND Stevenson?! Anyway, definitely check it out:

From Pilot to Canon, Luz and Eda
With my belief that No Tree Left Behind was boarded as part of the pilot continuity (hence Lilith's depiction), I want to bring up that I think there's kind of a subtle difference between Luz in that episode, or 'Pilot Luz', and Canon Luz as we got in the actual animated show.
With Canon Luz, she's a more brash, confident individual, who can get in over her head; King mentions that she smells of overconfidence, plus there's Luz recklessly getting into stuff like in Covention or Enchanting Grom Fright in the heat of the moment. She has this overwhelming energy and enthusiasm that's unstoppable, but as a result she can sometimes forget about the people around her, hence Wing it like Witches.
And a lot of that has to do with Luz's relationship with The Good Witch Azura in canon, because it means that the Boiling Isles is her fantasy!!! It's her chance, it's her adventure, it's what Manny would push her to go for! So she gives it her all. And in the latter half of the show, Luz's willingness to go at any cost, even to her own detriment, borders on self-sacrifice. In a way she's secretly atoning for her own existence, it's like... 'Socially acceptable' self-harm by risking herself.
So there's a difference in Pilot Luz during NTLB, who is much more averse to the martyr idea; She's a lot more scared and reluctant to fight for Arborgeist, and in a moment of crisis admits she doesn't quite get what Eda is so worked up about. And this makes me think of how the in the pilot continuity, there isn't that same relationship with Azura; The pitch bible reveals we would've had an episode where it's revealed to be written by an ex of Eda's about her, so you can guess that Luz drops it afterwards.
And as the pilot even shows us, Luz didn't choose to be in the Boiling Isles! And in lieu of my latest reblog, that feels relevant because Dana mentioned how in the final show, Luz choosing that was so incredibly important; It was a foundational change to the character's storyline. Luz wants to be here, she wants to risk it, this is the adventure and if she gets bruised up, it's okay. Us weirdoes have to stick together, she declares passionately as she rallies a bunch of strangers against Warden Wrath in the first episode. She becomes in canon the kind of passionate, righteous person who will talk your ear off about a thing and she's right about it.
So looking at the difference between first episodes, it tracks that Pilot Luz is much more reluctant and just trying to survive, hence her not 'getting' Arborgeist, in the sense that she doesn't see what's worth potentially dying over. Whereas with Canon Luz, I think she'd be more than willing to deep dive into this culture and play the hero, she's a social activist.
This isn't to trash on Pilot Luz btw, nor canon Luz; I just find it fascinating to consider how her character has changed and developed, how the story has, and how the difference in first episodes alludes to this. First episodes are very important, they can establish a lot of the core themes and ideas and Dana herself confirmed the significance of certain differences from the initial pilot. So it's fascinating seeing that difference in action, shown to us, rather than having to be told, since normally we couldn't watch the pilot storyboards to see for ourselves. Pilot Luz and Canon Luz are different characters with different flaws and circumstances, and they're both beautiful in their own ways for it.
I'd even argue that in a canon episode like WilW, Luz ends up playing the role Eda has in NTLB! And her stepping down after realizing she (might) hurt a loved one who was dragged into this, only for them to understand how much they care and come back to help for that reason... The story beats live on. Canon Luz would probably be thrilled to see Pilot Eda show so much care about something when she normally doesn't; Whereas Canon Eda becomes more of a practical guardian who's reining her kid in out of experience, because she's been hurt herself and is worried, and a tad pessimistic.
It's like the dynamics between Luz and Eda reversed from pilot to canon, with a scared and reluctant kid and her mentor who can push her too much sometimes; And now it's this overconfident, excited kid who wants to try everything and thinks she's invincible, with her jaded mentor who's a realist but also she cares more than you realize and wants to provide a safety net, being surprisingly thoughtful at times.
It makes sense, because again going back to my last reblog, Luz being more enthusiastic about the isles was to also help her foil other characters better, including Eda, and vice-versa. So it's possible Eda was changed to lean more into her pragmatic mentor role -Not that she doesn't still have her irresponsible, reckless moments- while bouncing off of Luz's new enthusiasm, which can lead to conflict like Luz wanting to try the newest magic and Eda not being in the mood, which leads to Luz being a bit reckless (take for example The Intruder).
Eda being more tired and jaded could also tie to the development of her curse as a disability that exhausts her, since in the pilot continuity the curse only made her age more; In canon, it does that AND messes with her magic stores, which leads to more exhaustion! In addition to becoming a beast. And with Eda becoming disillusioned with the isles due to her traumatic experiences, Luz acts as the light in her life to reignite her passion, which leads to Eda taking a more proactive role against Belos in S2!
She believes in her efficacy more because of how Luz changes the isles because of Eda, which makes Eda become more of an agent for social change as she starts to believe she can make a difference again, just as she did as a teen in IFWOT. Maybe Eda's curse isn't something to feel shame over anymore, maybe she shouldn't let it stop her from rallying everyone...!
Thus, there's not just a difference between Pilot and Canon Luz, but also Pilot and Canon Eda in NWLB. Though I imagine Canon Eda would still help to defend the Arborgeist tree, I'm not as sure about her confidence in attempting to rally others to do the same; She's got that loner vibe who assumes she has to do everything on her own because her own family and lover wouldn't support Eda in her defiance to the coven... But now she does have support in Luz. And King. And some of those loved ones are turning around too, no thanks to Luz's arrival inspiring some!
All this helps culminate in the S1 finale with Eda being used as a rallying cry against Belos, signaling the beginning of the end for his regime as she inspires not just a kid like Luz but other youths like Gus and Willow, and even helps chaperone Grom after avoiding Hexside for years; Eda’s really starting to believe again and she admits that Luz has gotten into her head as the cause.

Tag Team AU Synopsis – Enchanting Grom Fright + Wing it Like Witches
Synopsis Masterpost Link
Previous Part [Really Small Problems + Understanding Willow]
Next Part [Agony of a Witch + Young Blood, Old Souls]
Okay boys. It's time. This is the pseudo-romance arc we've been talking about for maybe a year now. Tag Team Hunter is Aro. This was my love letter to that (It's going to be underwhelming bc I've been hyping it up for so long).
Also this is pretty much all script screenshots. I had most of the dialogue written out for this one. Oh, Wing it Like Witches is also here I guess.
Enchanting Grom Fright
New Day! Hunter gets a call from Willow and Gus saying that Amity needs help training for Grom.
So they arrive.
Gus gives a thumbs up to Willow at some point, who blushes and takes Hunter aside while Amity continues to fight.
Cut to Luz, pacing in their room in the Emperor’s Castle.
(I think the whole Luz Wanting To Back Out Of The Deal thing would be sort of hinted at alongside Hunter stressing about Belos in Really Small Problems.)
Luz watches him go, and to herself says that she’ll tell him about her own problems later.
Grom time. Cute shit happens. Hunter is extremely uncomfortable but kind of has a nice time. Look at this cute Willow moment. I love her so much.
Anyway it’s Grom Queen time. Amity goes into the ring.
(Grom!Belos is on the other side of the Ice Wall, for reference)
Cut to the cliff in the woods. Hunter is pacing.
Wing it Like Witches
Willow and Amity centric, babes! This is another one I didn’t write much for, but the concept was that it was Willow and Amity talking about their respective Golden Guards and it sets up the season finale episodes. This is the moment where Amity and Willow’s tension breaks officially – kind of like in Follies at the Coven Day Parade when Amity goes to see Willow at her house.
Eventually, the field trip they’re going to have at the Emperor’s castle is brought up. Amity says that maybe she could snoop around to collect info on the Emperor then.

A more in depth analisis of this post, because I couldn't get it out of my head and Darius fighting style deserves it. The deal with Darius fighting style is that is opposite to the way abomination magic is used by the rest of the Coven and therefore very unique to him (or in other words he's the most especial man ever, here's why).
This is a little long, so under a read more it goes.
The first point to touch is, of course, how is abomination magic used usually. A continuation I will list all the examples of abomination magic seen in the first season.
Episode 3, "I Was a Teenage Abomination": Our introduction to the magic. We see it used by Amity, Willow, the other students and Professor Hermonculus. Things of note is the fact abomination is seen carried around in cauldrons by the students and they're mean to animate a functioning abomination to pass the class. In terms of combat, Gus knocks over some cauldrons to send abominations against Bump, and both Bump and Amity animate abominations against Willow and Luz. That's all.
Episode 5, "Covention": Used by Amity during his fight against Luz. Amity animates an abomination to use in the fight, made bigger by the power glyph, and sends it against Luz. That's all.
Episode 9, "Something Ventured, Someone Framed": At the end by young Eda, shown in Incident #3421. Eda raised an army of abominations to start a food fight. That's it.
Episode 13, "The First Day": Amity is seen using abominations to carry her books around, she also makes a demostration by animating one and having it carry her. We see also Jerbo combining abomination magic with plant magic to make a plant abomination (it looks made out of dirt, more than anything, but whatever). In terms of fighting, Jerbo uses an abomination to hold open a door and pull a rope against the basilisk. That's it.
Episode 16, "Enchanting Grom Fright": Amity summons a big ass abomination while dancing with Luz to fight Grom. They stand atop of it, Luz places a glyph on it and then Amity sends it against Grom. That's it.
Episode 17, "Wing It Like Witches": Amity summons a fist during the grudgby match, once to stop a saw and again to hit the ball. That's it.
What can we conclude from this? How is abomination magic used? For the most part to summon/animate an abomination to do something, in fight instances attack for the witch. Even when is not a full abomination, like in Episode 17, the abomination is still used to attack in place of the witch. Because of this, in all fight scenes witches that use abomination magic maintain a position apart from the action itself, the way these witches fight resembles a typical summoner, summoning a helper to do the fighting and maintaining a safe position away from the fight. Lets call this a non-engaged position.
Alright, so that's Season 1. What about Season 2? Abomination magic is used in more interesting ways this season. Rather than like before, I'm going to divide this in segments. First, more typical examples (Most of Amity scenes are here, this is important I promise). Then Darius, because now that we have an established commonality among abomination witches we can dive in the way his magic differs from the norm. Finally Eclipse Lake, because Amity constitutes an interesting 'in between' in this episode, along with some more thoughts on her fighting style. So to proceed, everything that's not Darius or Amity during Eclipse Lake.
Episode 2, "Escaping Expulsion": We're introduced to Blight Industries. For the most part, when Amity fights is always against Abomatons, because of this she mostly controls them/makes them fall apart, in term of magic there's not much more from her. The Abomatons themselves are just fancier abominations with armor, no much to say there. They do transform their arms into weaponry, which I think is the first example of this, but is still something else fighting for you. In terms of the weapons, we see an Abomaton use a bow and Odalia uses a flamethrower/abominationthrower, but seeing as she can use it no problems it doesn't constitute an use of abomination magic in itself, I think. Alador making them? Sure. Someone else using them? No.
Episode 5, "Through the Looking Glass Ruins": Gavin, the Glandus kid that only matters this episode uses abomination magic and I'm being nothing but thoroughly here, so we're talking about him. He summons abomination matter on the floor to make the slitherbeast slip, then later in the episode he summons an abomination to capture Gus and the other illusionist. That's it.
Episode 11, "Follies at the Coven Day Parade": There's abominations at the parade, they're dancing, good for them. Also there's Amity. She summons an abomination to stop Terra and help Luz scape with Kiki, then helps Luz against Kikimora, first by throwing? a light ray? with her hands? She sends a shiny blast, is purple, I'm not sure what magic that counts as, doesn't seem like abomination. Then she summons abomination to make a fist, Luz puts a glyph on it, and she sends it against Kikimora. Terra interrumpts then so that's it. She also makes an skaterboard with abomination early, which was pretty cool.
Episode 13, "ASIAS": Hermonculus sends abomination matter against Willow that Viney blocks. Girl with horns, apparently she's called Mary, sends a blob of goo against Skara and takes her out. She sends another after Willow that Willow dodges. Hermonculus summons an abomination hand to knock Willow off her staff. That's for the match. Amity summons an abomination to try to stop Tynella, then later summons a fist to send the pig flying, I'm not looking his name up.
Episode 14, "Reaching Out": First and foremost, it always kills me that Warden Wrath is the Champion that must be defeated, like is fucking Warden Wrath, go steal candy from a child Amity seems like a bigger accomplishment. Alright so on the fights, Amity summons an abomination to block an incoming attack, then uses magic to send that abomination behind her opponent an knock it out. There's a montage of fights and in there we see Amity cover her arms in abomination and using that to fight.
IMPORTANT FOR LATER.
She also makes a spicky shield out of goo and later sends abomination underground to knock her opponent out with a "vine".
Alador teleports into the arena using abomination, is distinctly different from how Darius teleports in Eda's Requiem. If I were to theorize in how this works, I would say he wraps himself in goo, teleports the goo within the goo and then comes out of the goo as we saw. He stops Warden Wrath by forming a giant hand and knocking him out, not that impresive cause is Warden Wrath, but he didn't pick the opponent so I'm forgiving it. Alador tries to use abomination to stop slightly-less-pathetic Warden Wrath by controlling the abomaton and extending its arms, Amity then joins with her own abomination and after father-daughter moment they fuse the abominations into a bigger abomination. You know what? Looking back on it that thing is really big, I think bigger abomination yet. And that's all for this episode.
Episode 18, "Labyrinth Runners": Willow makes a poor looking abomination at the beginning, so sorry for you girl. One of the scouts uses abomination to capture Hunter, envolving him in goo, before letting him go after realizing he's the Golden Guard. Amity summons an abomination that Willow accidentally destroys with plants. During the saving Gus fight, Jerbo summons a plant abomination to attack a scouts, it gets destroyed. Amity summons a pair of hands to protect Emira and hit a scout. Jerbo goes over a pair of scouts by riding an abomination. Amity and Willow send a combination of abomination goo and vines against the scouts. That's all for this chapter.
Episode 20, "Clouds on the Horizon": The group gets attacked by an abomaton, they knock it out. Lots of abomatons around in general. The group gets restrained by abomination goo as handcuffs. Amity breaks the handcuffs, forms a fist and hits the shield they're trapped at. Alador and Odalia fight, she with a ghost and he with an abomination. He makes a barrier with abomination that… (The Abomaton Ultra? Don't remember what is called) the fancier abomaton breaks, Amity summons and covers the ground with abomination to stop it so Willow can attack. Abomaton flies away. Alador vs. Odalia part two, he forms two fist out of abomination and uses them to knock over the abomatons she's using, she leaves.
Episode 21, "King's Tide": We see Alador destroy abomatons using magic. In the fight against Belos, Amity protects her and Luz with abomination, then sends abomination against Belos, first grabbing his head and in a subsequent scene his arm.
Alright, so in terms of usage, abomination magic is used in more interesting ways this season but the non-engaged position for the most part remains. There's some exceptions, all of them by Amity, which is why we gotta talk about her later. There's also Alador in the last picture, the closes he comes to reaching a more engaging position, fighting opponents around him rather than away from him, but he's still maintaining some distance.
For the most part, as I said, the established commonality among abomination witches is a sort of ranged combat, more than a up close one. And now that we have an established commonality we can dive into Darius magic.
Into Darius, my beloved.
The first time we see him use magic is in his proper introduction during Eda's Requiem. He summons abomination matter to capture the BATs before appearing by teleportation, transforming from abomination into his witch form, hinting his posterior transformation.
This picture is here for very important reasons and not so we can look at Darius arms. I think we as a society moved on from Darius arms too quickly, I think we should talk about how build this man is more often. I think he has nice arms. Look at that muscle. This is relevant I swear.
Darius teleports the BATs away, a significant distance may I add, and then transforms into abomination again to search for the missing rebels. I bring this out to point how casual and easy transforming is for Darius, he did it twice by now, full body, no problems. Something of note that I may dig into in a future post, but I wanted to point it out. He fully transform afterwards, is very hot, and then summons a sword. Like Amity with the skaterboard, the sword appears solid, so is easy to conclude abomination magic allows you to chance the state abomination is at. While is fluid most of the time, you can make it solid (or solid-like, depending how you pressume this change to occur). Since we're analysing Darius fighting style, I wouldn't go into the transformation perse. The important thing is that he summons a sword and then searchs for his opponent, hinting he's looking to engage in melee combat.
Coolest, hotest thing you will see today. You're welcome.
Afterward he grabs Raine and brings them to him, no longer having a sword but still transformed, and he grabs Raine with his extended arm, not by summoning an external abomination. With this, we already can see he likes to fight up close, something very different from what we have seen up to this point (Eda's Requiem is episode 7 and Eclipse Lake is 9). Already Darius breaks the mold, but this is just his first appareance, up to his second.
While we do see Darius use abomination in more typical maners during ASIAS, is never for a direct attack. He summons a fist to bop Willow on the head in the ship and then summons an abomination to stop the kids for scaping after the crash, but is worth nothing that the pat doesn't count as a serious attack nor was it trying to be and he limits himself to stopping the kids with the abomination, pass that it remains passive, he doesn't order it to attack nor has intentions to.
Two instances in which Darius uses abomination from far away to restrain, rather than engage in combat.
Instead he transform his arm into a scythe and jumps towards the kids, yet again placing himself up for close combat rather than remaining at a distance. Darius doesn't just fight up close, he chooses to constantly. He could use the abomination to capture the kids, he summons it before transforming his arm, but he's not interested in that kind of combat despite being the common tactic among his Coven. This episode makes that as clear as it can.
I have both Hollow Mind and O Titan, Where Art Thou in my notes and I have no idea why, especially O Titan. He doesn't fight in either, is because we see him use magic? Anyway he's very cool in both, very cool of him to hold Luz upside down, I support it.
The last time we get to see Darius fight (sadly, would have love a full fight with him) is in King's Tide against the Coven Heads. Yet again he transform and engages in melee combat. In fact, when Eber gets in trouble, he rushes in his aid, he doesn't summon or controls abomination from far away to help them, but rather tries to get close. There's like, no point against it, Darius likes to fight in close combat, is what his magic allows him to excel at and is also his first choice.
Why is this relevant that I needed to rant about it for so long? Besides making him the coolest of course. As I said, it makes him different from other abomination witches and how the Coven in general seems to operate. Most abomination witches fight in a way that allows them a distance from the fight itself, Darius always looks to remove that distance, he's the literal opposite of everyone else. But also is interesting the questions as to why and how that one can theorize on.
As I said Darius is muscular and he likes melee combat, the conclusion he can do close combat with or without magic is a very simple one to make, the technique for handling a sword can't differ that much whatever your arm is muscle or abomination, for example. This man can throw a punch, is all I'm saying.
Is also worth noting considering is implied the Previous Golden Guard, his mentor, was magicless like Hunter. Hunter also tends towards melee when fighting, if we assume his predecessor was similar we can draw an interesting answer to Darius fighting style.
There's also the topic of his magic and how he uses it. Did he learn to transform because he has a strong inclination towards close combat and that was the better way to use his magic for that purpose? Or did learning to transform shift his fighting style towards melee? Who knows, but is fun to wonder.
But what about Amity? You may ask. She has throw a punch before, right? And you're indeed right. Lets talk about Amity.
Amity, up to Eclipse Lake, doesn't differ from the more typical way of fighting shown by the Abomination Coven. Eclipse Lake is different. Here, Amity is incapable of maintaining a distance, her opponent being Hunter, someone who at the moment wants to get close to her to obtain the key. So instead of from away, Amity spends a portion of this fight at the center of the action... And she nailes it.
She's at the center and her magic is around her both times she has to block.
First time we see her forming a fist.
She punches him. She stops her fall with abomination. She forms a spike and holds it up to his face. She ups her game to respond to Hunter fighting style. She wins that fight and anyone who says otherwise is a liar. A winner doesn't resort to blackmail is all I'm saying.
The important part is that after this we see Amity form the fist again and go melee more often, even if not always. We see it in Follies, we see it in Reaching Out, we see it in Clouds. This fight changes the way she uses her magic, in a direction similar to the way Darius uses it, a sort of 'in between'. She's more comfortable in close combat, something that, again, no one else uses besides her and the top of her Coven. That's interesting (all those 'what if Darius teached Amity magic' concepts were right Amity is begging for it, this girl wants to punch people in the face so bad).
And that's kind of it, really. Just 'how do abomination users tend to fight' and 'who breaks the mold and how', no more than that, but is interesting to me. There's other examples of people fighting up and personal along with magic, like Willow or Eda, but in terms of abomination there's such a clear patern of people explicitly not doing that that Darius stand out a lot, in a way that shines a very innovative/creative light on him, coupled with the fact we know of no one else who can transform, makes everything about his magic and fighting style unique to him. For a rebel, this "breaking the mold" adds a little more to his character. The fact Amity is the only one we see "follow his footsteps" is also something worth noting.
I like it, shot out to them and them only.

I was listening to the enchanting grom fight music from TOH and I was totally not imagining Alastor and Charlie fighting an enemy by dancing together (I absolutely was imagining it)
