Following @strawberri-animates's emptober idea, day one is normal but I didn't feel like writing an entire fanfic since I only remembered at 8:30 at night so just have some rambling about nature wives headcanons
Witches aren't allowed to marry humans because they're isolationist, but they took one look at Shelby and Katherine and went "these bitches gay, we can't stop them"
Katherine and Shelby's first kiss was in the Evermoore and the ghosts were just yelling "finally!" And bets were being cashed in
The witches are pretty "anything that isn't "normal" is bad" and so when Shelby looked through the library at Katherine's castle and found a book about the Emperors, she was absolutely thrilled to find a picture of High Wizard Gemini with a bi and a trans flag, she pretty much squealed about it excitedly the entire day
Katherine is naturally flirty, Shelby tries to flirt back but just devolves into incoherent muttering and blushing
Gem has literally sprayed Katherine with a water bottle because she wouldn't stop talking about how pretty Shelby was
How is any of this related to normal? This was originally meant to be domestic hcs but I'm ADHD and got sidetracked, also, no idea if I should tag the og creator of the Emptober calendar I'm following, don't know proper Tumblr protocol yet, sorry

The rulers from more diverse climates (Fwhip, Gem, Scott, Katherine, Shubble, and Sausage) dress down slightly when they go to Mezalea, Pixandria, or The Ocean Empire on state business.
They wear looser more breathable fabrics, they walk with parasols or hide under the shade of trees to avoid the scorching heat and burning rays of the sun. Some of them decide to go barefoot, feeling the moss and sand as they walk.
They relax and lounge on the beach with a cold drink, beat the heat by taking a dip in the ocean. They genuinely enjoy the time they spend not stuck in meetings where the stuffy air and sweltering heat are inescapable.
On the other hand, the "Summer Empires" (Joel, Lizzie, and Pix) go through a hellish torture labyrinth when they have to visit the empires with cold climates during the winter- hell, during any time other than the summer.
Bundled up in multiple layers, violently shaking during meetings, spending every ounce of their free time huddled up in front of a roaring fireplace with a hot drink.
They think the snow is beautiful but going out to try and enjoy it or goof around is not worth getting soaked in the freezing cold. Ice skating, winter sports, completely out of the question because it's just more opportunities to pratfall and then get completely sopping wet when it's below freezing.
It's genuinely so pathetic, and they never ever get used to it. Jimmy just has to watch his allies nearly die from exposure every single year without fail.

heeebeedeebs ok, so, any headcanons for the marriage of state au on like....uh.... heh.... burial customs? for like... the cod alliance?
(also maybe also wither rose toooooo????)
ooooooooo!
So I actually hadn't thought about this yet which is why it took me a couple of days to answer, i had to poke at it a bit. So now I do have thoughts!
This might get a little bit gruesome, along the lines of frank discussions of dead bodies and disposal thereof.
Cod Alliance
The Swamp being...swampy, it doesn't lend itself to burial very well. The honored dead are burned (dry wood is a valuable resource) and the dishonored dead are basically dumped in a specific corner of the swamp very heavily populated with Things That Eat People. (Mostly Catfish and Alligators, this is an American South swamp/bayou biome in my heart, which does, unfortunately, mean they have mosquitoes) They also have wakes, like full party mode, music and alcohol and stories of the deceased. They were also an occupied territory for several centuries, with very few resources left to them, community support in time of bereavement is very important. Especially in situations where the deceased supported a family.
The Ocean Empire buries at sea. The dead are weighted down and taken to the Deep Ocean and dropped there. Think whale fall. They are a bit more solemn about their rituals than The Swamp but there are several similarities. They have an appointed grieving period of two weeks, during which the loved ones of the deceased are sequestered.
Mezaleans build mausoleums. Their dead are burned and the ashes interred with their families or, for an honored few, mostly royals who provided exceptional service to their people, beneath the Mother Tree. There is also a public mausoleum in each city for those without families, though those people are few, as Mezaleans engage in liberal social adoption. Most people find themselves quietly absorbed into some sort of family unit before they have been alone too long (but that is a whole nother post). They also tend to build memorials, ranging from small potted gardens of favorite flowers to full, larger-than-life statues. They don't believe in reincarnation so much as in redistribution of energy and preservation of memory.
Pixandria, for somewhat obvious reasons, has a very unique relationship with death (and also Death). They also have a party, celebrating the passage from life to death, though theirs is less focused on memories of the past than the Swamp and more on congratulating the dead on their migration to the next stage of existence. Every death celebration includes a seat at the table for Death herself, that is kept liberally supplied with food and alcohol at all stages of the festivities. They bury their dead, and quickly, since corpses don't keep long in the desert. Priests and royals are buried in catacombs beneath the Anthill while everyone else is buried in one of a few designated locations in the desert. (The party does not start until everyone is safely back in the oasis or Anthill, as travelling drunk through the desert is a good way to end up having to repeat the entire event again very shortly, and while they do not fear death, they do also value life.)
Wither Rose Alliance
Mythland also buries their dead. I haven't thought too much about the details but the primary religion of the region is a blood cult so there is definitely something done with the blood of the deceased. It's drained from the body and they use it for some sort of memorial ritual. These are not open to outsiders and are usually closed affairs involving only the family and close friends of the deceased and a single priest of the blood sheep.
The Crystal Cliffs, as an empire made up in no small part of people who are direct transplants from other empires, do their best to honor the cultural practices of the deceased. If not, they practice a form of sky burial, as the sheer stone cliffs don't offer a lot of burial opportunities and they territory is too small for it to be practical. The native population consider dead bodies functionally as waste matter, no longer important once it is no longer inhabited by a living soul. It's just a matter of practical disposal. Though as stated, they will go to great lengths to respect the wishes of the dead regarding the disposal of their bodies, including transporting them all the way to Pixandria if necessary.
The Grimlands also bury their dead. (You can see some similarities here, in this alliance.) They have a couple of different regional variations, but they do bury their dead. If the deceased died of illness or redstone poisoning they are burned, to avoid contaminating the land or the living. They usually have a memorial service, and immediate relatives are expected to undergo a grieving schedule not unlike the Ocean. (This probably came from the salmon hybrid population)
Gilded Helianthia, like their primary allies, buries their dead but they do so fully communally, and without any kind of coffins or excess wrappings. Where you are buried depends entirely on when you die. Bodies are left in the ground for five years, to allow full decomposition of all tissues, then the bones are exhumed and burned and the ashes scattered over the ground they were buried in. Once a zone has been completely exhumed, it is converted into farmland. This is one of the ways they rotate their croplands and maintain soil health.
Rivendell has a couple of different burial traditions, depending on how high in the mountains you are. They have a relatively small population, and their birth and death rates are such that it remains fairly steady. Which is to say, both death and birth are fairly rare, when nature is allowed to run its course. (This does mean that things such as war, famine, and sickness can be devastating for them, as it can be very difficult to recoup the population loss) Death is a solemn affair, funeral rites take place over the course of at least a week, and the body is displayed for a significant portion of that. The cold climates of the mountain allow for that. Afterwards the body is burned and the ashes either scattered from a high peak, or into the river, depending on where the deceased lived. This releases the soul for reincarnation, and to deny this to someone is a very serious statement. Mourning periods vary from 1-10 years, depending on relationship with the deceased, age of the mourner, age of the deceased, and several other factors. The grieving are monitored carefully for signs of Fading during this time.
The Lost Empire has four different distinct burial traditions, equating to the four elements their culture is based around. Pyre, burial, sky burial (done from the tree-tops), and water burial. The rulers are buried on a rotation. (Joey is scheduled to be burned after death, and he maintains this is incredibly romantic given Xornoth's own elemental powers. Xornoth thinks he's weird.)
Everyone Else
It's literally just the Overgrown and Undergrove left at this point so might as well XD
The Overgrown, being fae, and having a very strong nature alignment, return their bodies to the Spring. Fae bodies also, to put it bluntly, decompose very, very quickly. Almost dissolving over the course of a day or so. Burial is swift and flowers are planted to memorialize the deceased.
The Undergrove does not currently have a population beyond Shrub themself, but the gnomes were/are fungal farmers and had very practical views on the burial of bodies, not dissimilar to those of Gilded Helianthia.

Random Empires Ideas
A small collection of theories and Headcanons for Empires
1) I don’t know if this is just me pushing a Nature Wives Agenda, but it feels like there’s no way that Shub’s corruption arc doesn’t end with a “I know you’re in there” fight with Katherine. It would be so satisfying.
2) Thinking about Gem’s whole deal, I’m starting to develop an idea where she’s an ascended god, like Pearl. Right now, I’m thinking she was a normal person with a ton of pressure and responsibility, and since she has ascended, she’s able to live the lives she thought she never would be able to. Also, I like to think that if Gem is a God, then her church is her subtly building up a following for herself.
3) I like to think Pix is in the same boat as Gem, although I think of him more as an old god, who is just vibing on earth now, cause he can. Basically characters who routinely break the fourth wall
4) Every time False releases a Hermitcraft video, I get a little more nervous, because given her last empires video, when we don’t see Empires False, she is possessed, and I don’t think whatever entity is possessing her is very nice.
5) I don’t have a concrete idea, but somehow, the defeat of Evil Sausage is going to depend on Pearl. Definitely Saint Pearl, maybe hermitcraft Pearl. I suspect Pearl placed Sausage (And maybe Oli) in this world for the specific purpose of defeating Evil Sausage.

Empires smp Headcanons
Been having all of these in mind for a LONG long while. Many of these have been built up over the past months after reading different headcanons, fics, and content, along with my obsession over world building and fictional politics. So I feel like I need to make my own set of headcanons and AUs especially with a (maybe) future project related to this world.
So first I'm gonna lay out the basic politics in this world, starting out with which emperor is and isn't mortal. Why is that important? Well let's see,
(Important to note that I haven't watched every pov so there might be some holes and inaccuracies to canon here and there)
First of, most of the empires and nations could be categorized as either ruled by mortals or immortals/semi-immortals.
Mortals are typically the rulers of Pixandria, Mazelea, Mythland, Gilded Helianthia, the Lost Empire, the Crystal Cliffs, and the Grimlands.
Meanwhile Rivendell, The Codlands, The Overgrown, The Undergrove, and The Ocean Empire have semi-immortal rulers. Semi-immortal meaning that they live longer lives compared to the average human.
However, this is different from the Ocean and Codlands. For example, the merlings of the ocean empire and Codlands aren't as immortal as their rulers (Lizzie and Jimmy) but only have longer life spans in comparison.
Historically there has been 5 nations that have major political, cultural, and magical influences on the continent, Rivendell, Mazelea, The Ocean Empire, The  Lost Empire, and Mythland.
The Grimlands however has gained prominence for the past couple of decades due to their exports on gunpowder, weaponry, and technology. Primarily a farming nation, today people of different nations would travel to the Grimlands just to study advance redstone tech.
The Crystal Cliffs used to be an autonomous region from the Grimlands. They were given independence by the Grimlands peacefully after an agreement between the Count and Head Wizard. Most of the residents are of Grimland heritage, however the region has heavy Elven and Fae influences.
The political affairs of the Crystal Cliffs are handled by the Head Wizard, who is chosen by Gandalf (an immortal cat) in a ceremony. It is important for the Head Wizard to find a balance and intervene between the mortals and immortals. This typically leads to the Crystal Cliffs being neutral in most conflicts.
In a unique sense, the Crystal Cliffs is ruled by both a mortal (the head wizard) and an immortal (Gandalf the cat).
Gilded Helianthia used to be under the Empire of Mythland until they declared independence from them. This revolution was supported by Rivendell, the Overgrown, and the Codlands.
Rivendell saw the revolution by the Helianthians as a good way to cripple Mythland’s expanding influence from the northwest, and by extension, the Blood Sheep’s influence.
The Overgrown, headed by House Blossom, aided in the conflict because of the good relations between the Fae and the Helianthians. Helianthia had a culture and religion that closely respects nature, something that the Fae favored.
The Codland emperor meanwhile just did not like Mythland. They’ve been in conflict for centuries and Jimmy jumped on the opportunity to own Mythland somehow.
So Jimmy had his people fighting on the north, warding off Mazaelean forces from aiding Mythland.
His sister remained neutral during this period, however gave aid by sending troops to Codland in guise of Codlanders returning from the Ocean pilgrimage.
Important to note, all of this event happened two generation before Scott’s time period. So this would include Katherine, who avoids conflicts at all cost.
During this period, Mythland’s empire stretched to the west of the jungle, a territory that used to belong to the Lost Empire.
Mythland didn’t wanted to let go of the Helianthian region due to the fertile soil from the flood plains. The region produces majority of the wheat and other food products that Mythland heavily relies on to feed their populous and armies. This has been Mythland’s advantage over several nations and many nations also relied on Mythland for this.
Mythland in this conflict was supported by the Grimlands and Mazaelea. The Grimland was in a centuries long alliance meanwhile Mazaelea had a treaty with them.
The produce from the Grimlands aided Mythland in the war when they lost access to Helianthia’s farmlands.
This made the Fae and Elven armies advance to the southern jungles of the collapsing Lost Empire, intercepting Grimland exports to the north.
The Lost Empire was primarily neutral to the conflict. The rulers found the advancing Elven and Fae armies alarming and asked a meeting with the leaders of both nations.
They signed a treaty with them that the region will be given back to the Lost Empire if they allowed their armies to cut off the Grimlands' exports of potatoes to Mythland and Mazaelea.
This led to a great lost in Mythland, eventually giving Gilded Helianthia its independence.
The surrender also had Mythland give up a region of the jungle back to the Lost Empire (these territories did not lasted in their hands for too long due to internal politics and went back to Mythland within 20 years) along with disputed territories with Codlands.
For a long period after the revolution, Helianthia had hostilities with Mythland. This eventually mellowed out over a few centuries and nowadays the two nations are political allies that do regular trade with each other.
At one point in history, Mythland had a queen consort from Helianthia. This Helianthian queen helped Gilded Helianthia eased into the Wither Rose Alliance, allowing the nation to gain more trade and military benefits from the Grimlands.
The Wither Rose Alliance is a centuries old ally ship created mainly by the rulers of the Grimlands and Mythland before the Crystal Cliffs separated from the former. The alliance was created due to having a shared enemy with the Cod empire and to strengthen trade and military support.
The Crystal Cliffs originally was not a part of the alliance after their independence due to the nation’s desire to stay neutral. The nation only joined 5 decades after the Helianthian War of independence.

Hermitcraft Recap Headcanon
I am currently watching Pixlriffs stream on the Hermit’s server and I had a fun thought at reading someone say “The real reason Pix is on HC is to gather more information for the recap”  Lets place it as if the recap would be a canon newspaper.  And now read my following headcanons: -Pixlriffs is the journalist and maker of said newspaper - He is pretty good at hiding and still catching conversations etc. (not too good of an eyesight but incredibly good hearing)  - He scatters around the HC Server to try and find the most gossip & drama just for the funs - He has like a portable endless notepad with him that he can write everything onto  - IF people notice him he mostly plays it off like: “Ah, yeah. Nah I’m just looking around fellas. I am TOTALLY not spying at you or writing down your gossip.” Yeah thats all xD

Last night, I had a dream where Joel from Empires SMP could shapeshift into a clay statue, and I really like that idea, so now it’s my new headcanon.
In my dream, Jimmy came to Mezalea and was kinda wandering around... maybe looking for Joel? And Joel kept following him, turning into a statue whenever Jimmy looked at him, then following again when he looked away, and so on to get Timmy all freaked out, lol. For those who watch his videos and are more familiar with his personality and stuff, do you guys think this is something that Joel would actually do? Like, is that his style of pranks?
Also, this wasn’t part of the dream, but I’m adding it to this headcanon anyway: Joel uses this ability to “nope” out of conversations that he no longer wants to be a part of. Kind of like Enid in OK KO with her ninja log teleportation thingy.

Ooooh claustrophobic Jimmy makes the walls extra fucked up. And I love the shaky hands, my man has absolutely garbage motor control and we love that for him
I headcanon him with fibromyalgia cause I have it and projection is fun lol, I wrote a fic a little while ago (unposted sorry king) about how Jimmy uses an elytra as a mobility aid because walking is exhausting for him, and when he walks he sometimes uses a cane for balance.
And another part of fibromyalgia is brain fog which is really close to executive dysfunction but with extra memory problems, so I imagine he has really poor memory and trouble thinking sometimes.
I just love fibro Jimmy it's so fun and I feel like a lot of the things suit him and are just really fun to write. Like writing him dealing with chronic fatigue is great for rancher ideas because they're literally overworked4overworked
OVERWORKED4OVERWORKED AKSJGGHF
They are tho :( I actually have a disability hc for Tango! He fucked up his shoulder and it never healed properly, like everyone is p sure he dislocated it and never got proper treatment. So it's just a fucked up shoulder. It gets weak super easy and is constantly sore, tho Tango is used to it so he just ignores it until it gets so bad he can't move it.
And yeah I actually have like. Quite a few drabbles posted here ab e!Jimmy experiencing claustrophobia bc of the walls around Tumble Town, and just in general. You can go through my fic tag (#shadow's scribing again) if you wanna find them (p sure I put them there if not go through either of the Jimmy tags on my blog). It's one of my more favorite headcanons cause of the angst potential <3
Also I love fibro Jimmy that's such a cool headcanon! It strangely fits even if it is projection (projecting onto your blorbos is so cool I do it every time I write Jimmy (doesn't matter if it's angst or fluff)). Might adopt that hc actually if you don't mind. It makes the whole "so desperate to get his wings back he resorts to asking the fae" thing a lot more 👀 ya know? There also could've been moments between him and Scar during the crossover where they bonded over needing mobility aids! Tired in more ways than one besties :3

Headcanon for Gem’s Origin
Based on other ideas about Empires/ Hermitcraft Gem. Sticks to earlier posts about Gem/ Dawn, and a couple about Pearl.
Word Count: 1k (How has this happened)
Mix of a headcanon and a fic.
Mentions of Death, Blood, Financial issues, Alcohol
~~~~~~~
Our story starts in Dawn. Back long before Gem could even dream of being the princess of Dawn. Yes, everyone must start their story somewhere, even a being who now possesses so much power as miss Geminitay. Because like all beings as powerful as her, she was not born with these powers, but earned them over time.
Gem’s story starts on the coasts of Dawn, right next to the docks. Her parents were both part of the fishing business. Her Mother caught the fish and her father would sell it out of their stall. This was good work, and they were proud of what they did. Gem grew up to be an intensely clever girl, as she would spend her free time hanging out with either of her parents, sitting in a corner in her mother’s boat or her father’s stall. However, in this particular era, this was not rich work, as the price of fish was falling fast.
Dawn’s wealth was booming, driven by a few now wealthy merchants who had established ties to many other empires. These new connections created trade routes that tied Dawn to the world at large, including several empires with richer ports that hauled in huge quantities of fish, which they could now export to Dawn on the cheap.
Not that Gem understood any of that. All she saw was that something was happening in the world and it meant she saw her parents less, and when she did, they seemed more anxious. This was a somewhat confusing and poorly timed twist for Gem. But, she was old enough to somewhat piece together than the source of these issues was money. So as she enter adolescence, she kept a sideways eye on this.
Nothing of note happened for most of Gem’s life until she turned eighteen, the draft age for Dawn. Dawn had always poured money into keeping their country safe, so the pay for military personnel was excellent. And Gem knew she was exactly the kind of girl they were looking for.
Gem signed up, against the very adamant wishes of her parents. Most people in Dawn’s military are the people with swords, the ones they post on the border to send a message to any neighbors who get a little bold. Gem, unfortunately, was not cut out for that kind of work.
She was always smart, and always fit, and she was destined for better things. A small country like Dawn needs a very specific political climate in order to survive. Gem’s mission was to keep the world in that climate, by any means necessary.
And Gem was good at this. She surprised herself with how easily she could perform her subterfuge and assassinations. By the time she was twenty-four, she could already trace her handiwork to the end of several political movements and the collapse of an entire empire. The work was bloody and taxing, but very, very rich.
When she was twenty-six, Gem was tired. It was difficult for her to tap down an exact moment that took the life out of her. Really it was just the accumulation of death and destruction her hand had caused. For those working with her, it was a truly bizarre series of events. One random mission, the blood of her last victim still splattered on her face. She left. She dropped her sword and knives and walked into the streets. She disappeared into the crowd, and wouldn’t reappear for years.
Where was she in this time? Gem made her way through the jungle, some jungle she was not really familiar with. She found a small halfway home. It was attended by a half man half rabbit tending a bar.
“Hm.” He took a look at Gem’s bloodied appearance. “You look like our usual clientele. What do you drink?”
“Something strong, I don’t care.”
The bartender looked at her for a minute. “Apple juice it is.”
Gem found the place confusing, to say the least. It was appointed like any roadside inn across the empires, yet there was something strange about this place. As instinct dictated, she scoured the place for anything useful or unexpected. Outside of her gear, she only found a book, a small one that would fit in her pocket. It had a sunflower painted on the cover, although the paint was beginning to chip. Gem had always assumed these places where legends, yet here she was, in one of Saint Pearl’s lost Temples.
Filled with wonder for the first time in ages, Gem explored. She poked her head into every nook and corner she could find to see as much of this place as she could.
“This place is severely off-limits.” A deep voice boomed as Gem started to enter the basement.
“Sorry! I was just looking around.”
The voice laughed. “I’m kidding, I just like spookin people.” Gem turned to see a golden haired woman wearing a green apron grinning at her. “But seriously, that’s a crypt. I wouldn’t go down there alone. It’s creepy, and that’s coming from me.”
“Well, that sounds like an offer to join me.”
“I’d say you trust too easily, but let’s face it, no one ends up in my corner of paradise because they were too trusting.”
This woman, of course, was not some rogue janitor, but Saint Pearl herself. From the clouds, Pearl had take note of her as someone who could have an interesting and useful second chance. Gem became Pearl’s warlock. For years, she did nothing but travel through different empires, and eventually dimensions doing whatever she wanted, more or less. A strange stipulation of their warlock pact, Gem has to be doing things she loves to do. A lot of that was roleplay. She’d enter a new dimension, and get to just transform herself into whatever version of herself she wanted to be, and just spend time playing in these worlds, always trying to make them prettier. At first, she had tried just making them better, but found her powers worked far better when she just tried to make things sparkle a little more.
At this point, Gem is technically not bound by her warlock pact anymore. Her sheer willpower and joy means she generates her own magic now, she is an ethereal being, not technically a god, but certainly more than a mortal. And she spends her days doing what she was meant to do: whatever she wants.
~~~
Well, this was supposed to be a head canon and now its like a mini fic.

I really like the idea of Jimmy really being some kind of living doll specifically because of how much I liked Scar's speech about how "Woody doesn't define you, you define you".
Something about a character deciding to define himself in spite of the limitations his body gives him is personally appealing.
Because, even if he IS just an animated piece of fabric that doesn't make him any more of a toy than anyone else is, he's still Jimmy. Still the sheriff. Still HIM.
I love that.
