No but, can we talk about this for a moment? There is a welcome banner to MARY MARGARET and, oh right, Emma too. Everybody there was Mary Margaret’s friends. Emma’s too, of course, but mostly of them are there only for Mary Margaret. The only one person who was there for Emma was Regina, because Emma invited her, so she went. Maybe was only for seeing Henry, but she was there because of Emma, the only one.

And Emma was so happy to see her.

Killian Jones met a girl who spent her entire life thinking she was unwanted and worthless and without family. And is less than a week after finding out none of that is true.

She was very much wanted, magic is real, her son almost died, she is a princess and very full of worth and she's coping with all of that in a land with ogres.

And she's focusing on getting back to her son who is currently close to the woman who cursed her family and doomed her to life as an unwanted castaway and she needs to have that direct hyperfocus cause the woman who used to be her best friend is trying to be her mother despite having no actual life advantages to do so and she is not handling that very well.

But she needs to get to her son, who she gave up despite not wanting to because she thought he would get his best chance, cause without her was his best chance but turned out he got into the arms of a woman who was the worst option at the time. And lets not even get into how she gave him up for his best chance, but she "should have known better" as she herself had been an infant in the system so why would she think he'd do any better than her? So the guilt is just absurd. And now she's climbing a beanstalk with Captain Hook and lying about having been in love cause why tf are we talking about this right now??

He met that woman and went "huh. am I over seeking vengeance?"

And that's power right there.

she’s coming to terms with the fact that she’s actually going to forget storybrooke, forget her parents.

she’ll never remember being loved by them, she’ll never remember being a daughter, having a mother, having a father. having that love, that support system that she yearned for her entire life?!? she got to have it for a few months and not only is it being ripped away from her, she won’t even remember that she had it. this was actually one of the sickest moments in the entire series.

It had been a while.

Henry was a teenager, running them ragged with his schedules. Soccer practice, band tryouts, fishing trips, matches—plus the endless homework that came with a high schooler. Regina was better at keeping up with it than Emma was, always sending multiple texts leading up to whatever event hinged on her arrival or departure.

She liked those texts. Each one ended with a heart. Not an emoji—an old-school emoticon. Just a little <3 at the end of the incredibly over-the-top directions.

The soccer game starts at 6:30; be there by 6:15. Dress warm, not the ridiculous jeans and thin-as-my-resolve-to-keep-dating-you jacket. You aren’t sharing my blanket <3

Henry wants you to come over for dinner, despite my attempts to convince him otherwise. Red wine, from the grocery store—do not go across town to get the bottle I like, you’ll be late. 7:00 <3

I’m going to be late tonight, darling. Can you pick Henry up from band at 4:30? The lasagna in the freezer needs to go in the oven around 5—instructions are pinned to the refrigerator <3

They were reminders. Reminders that they fought so hard for this, to have each other. Each little heart felt like a victory, making Emma’s face go all dopey no matter where she was, no matter what she was doing. Regina loved her. She had proof in the form of multiple text messages.

This text was different.

Emma had finally finished her paperwork for the day, slogging through the stack that always seemed to pile up. She was waiting for the text, already geared up to catch the last half of Henry’s soccer practice, like she did every Friday.

Henry is going to stay with Jeremy tonight. Skip the soccer field and get a shower <3

Emma read it twice, just to make sure she wasn’t imagining things. Then she grinned. Then she bit her lip. Then she really grinned.

It had been a while.

She loved her family. She loved Henry more than she ever thought she could love anything.

But Henry was a cock blocker.

Not on purpose, of course. He was a teenager. And she and Regina were good moms—responsible moms. They made sure his needs came first, that he never felt anything less than completely secure in the home they’d built together. And when they finally got together, Emma had insisted on taking it slow for his sake. She didn’t even stay the night at first, no matter how much she’d wanted to.

Now? Now she was sort of living with them, her things scattered across the house in a way that Regina pretended to hate. Her badge rested on the nightstand next to Regina’s jewelry box, her sweatpants were always mixed into Regina’s laundry, and her stupid boots were by the door no matter how many times Regina huffed about putting shoes away properly.

And it was good. It was better than good.

But God, she missed making Regina scream.

The kind of screaming that left Regina’s throat raw the next morning. The kind that left her shaking apart in Emma’s arms. The kind that was impossible to pull off when their kid was asleep down the hall, or coming in for breakfast, or generally existing in the same space.

Tonight, though? Tonight, the house was theirs.
