Yes! Emma would've saved anyone from the fire. Including Regina.

However they are missing the key element here.

"I think I know. I think I have to weigh my heart to see if my love for you is true." - Emma 5x20

The scale was weighing her heart to see what kind of love it was. So if it had been Regina instead the door wouldn't have opened because Emma's heart doesn't share true love with Regina. But it did open for Killian Jones.

I still think his response was being tested as well because the show was always saying or showing that true love is shared. You can't have true love if the other person doesn't return it (like Rumple and Belle have both rejected the other or how it doesn't work when the other person doesn't remember who they are or the other person).

Also, in S6 the door opened to Emma's true love. So that is two true love tests and both doors opened to Killian Jones. The haters just need to accept that CaptainSwan was shown to share true love. It's canon. Deal with it.

So you know what was really messed up?

I mean for one, poor Emma having her heart taken out for like the third time but also… This must have been a horrifying thing for Killian to see.

It happened so quickly and without warning that no one even had time to react, but both David and Killian flinch (even though Killian’s reaction is hard to see because the camera isn’t on him in that moment). But like… they’re just standing there and talking and suddenly out of nowhere this awful untrustwothy horrible dude, that sadistically tortured him not so long ago, just thrusts his hand into Emma’s chest and rips her heart out? I mean… talk about triggers…

And the next second Hades acts like it’s a joke.

Look at him, he’s not okay.

From the moment Hades shows up, Killian spends this whole episode staring daggers at him (with a painful hint of fear) and warning everyone not to trust him. And everyone else is so?? chill about it??

SEE I LOVE 5x20 because. ouat leans so heavily on the concept of true love as the GREATEST magic of all. two people who love each other so strongly that impossibility itself is reduced to ash, just because of how much they want to be with each other

but the concept of true love, in a romantic way, is often thought of in modern stories as of. two people predestined to be with each other. and it's something ouat has leaned into as well, with oq most prominently (but other couples as well)

and that interpretation of tl can be fun but idk. i think there's something about two people choosing each other regardless of what a predestined story might have had in the cards for them. and that being JUST as valid as all other kinds fo tl

so i really liked that cs's tl confirmation was uncertain. emma and killian really didn't know if their love was one of the pretold greatest of all time or the like. they just knew they loved each other and were willing to bet everything on that.

and so that was their test. choosing each other no matter what. and i think that's it.

emma and killian weren't a couple who against all odds were destined to find each other. they were two people who managed to love each other so deeply, that they twisted and bended fate itself to allow them to be together.

so what if they weren't destined for each other? so what if they were doomed to be apart, even? how could two people who love each other that much have their bond be anything but true?

i have to be honest, i’m a little upset with the way the show tried to do the parallels between these two ships

the one that always bothered me was the whole “i will find you, hook, i will always find you” bit when she’s going to the underworld - don’t get me wrong, i found it sweet and aww she’s going for him, i love it but i do have two problems with it:

first of all, the use of “hook”, like i get it, they probably had it like that for promo use but it is kinda ooc for emma to call him hook like that, she’d call him killian, killian is the man who died for her and her family and the man who loves her and tbh i think that whoever the promo concerns will know that she means hook if you have her say killian ok ?

second of all, the use of that quote, i get it, it’s her parent’s phrase and she’s following their lead from the heart split to the quote but it sounds so cheap in that moment, idk it doesn’t sound right. now, there’s a whole other quote that they could have used that she’d know about bc our boy killian said it to someone close to emma about emma and that is *drum roll* “i’d go to the end of the world for her, or time” YES that would be a sentence that they could have her say, a more subtle nod instead of full-on copy, they could have had her say something along the lines of that and even add that snowing bit if that’s what they wanted, something like idk “i’m going to the end of the world for you and i will find you, always” idk i suck but something like that !!! not cheap copy

now if there’s a parallel that they should have used from snowing that i’m still very upset they didn’t is the wedding ... see where i’m getting at ?

snow and charming got married by lancelot so that david’s mother could see him marry before she died, now don’t you think that emma and killian deserved the same chance ? for all they knew at one point, killian wasn’t going to go back so why not that parallel ?

they could have had it like after the whole ambrosia failure bit, yes i know the plot wouldn’t quite let that happen and i wouldn’t have traded the elevator scene for anything bc that was beautiful af BUT i do think that should have happened at some point

and if we’re wanting to keep it all as is, i have a solution .... prepare yourselves: killian marries them at emma’s request on the elevator part and the ring is liam’s ring, the one around her neck, bc the marriage would be for them not for her family and then she could have told mom and dad about it and THEN when killian comes back, they’d have their wedding as the show showed them bc snowing had it the same way too ( tho i do have another rant about season 6 but ya know for later )

ok i also paused midway while writing this to check on their parallels bc i knew there was one where snowing “took” from captainswan which was the “as you wish” on that sapling flashback and omg apparently there are so many more !! ( this is the video i watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJPZaJbyaCU ) and now i’m just extra pissed bc there are so many good ones and like subtle ones !! why did they have to give us the cheap “i will always find you” parallel ??

Sometimes I'm still astounded at how much the writing in OUAT seasons after season 3 kissed Regina's ass (I'm currently at the end of season 5 in my rewatch)..
