OKAY so @icedteaandoldlace points this out in her fic, right at home, and here in her post about cisco being barry and caitlin's "favorite friend" in the star labs trio- that's right, i'm giving u homework for this answer- barry and caitlin... just aren't as close as they used to be.

of course of COURSEEE they love each other, they care about each other, of course they're friends. but... they're not as close as they could be?

personally, i can only name two times they went out alone to have normal person friendtime that didn't involve their other friends or anything hero-related: their summer lovin' night out and when they go out to eat so so so many seasons later so canon can try and pretend that this is the first time caitlin's considering dating again after ronnie's death. these were little friend-dates that they planned out together, just the two of them. and i can only name two. they've been friends for nine years. i should be able to name more than two

early seasons snowbarry, maybe? like, specifically s1-snowbarry? perhaps? i mean they were considering the romantic angle back then, so there are some unfulfilled moments that could make sense to lean into queerplatonically. i don't think caitlin would be very comfortable with blurring the lines with barry during s1 post-hannibal bates taking advantage of her, though. and if i'm bringing that up, we gotta consider how comfortable barry would be with blurring the lines with her, too, after caitlin and frost force themselves on him in s3e7.

what a weird dynamic they already have canonically honestly jesus christ

i wish there was more i could say ?? the series just started to seriously lack in what their relationship looked like without iris, cisco, and the rest of team flash. it tends to forget barry and caitlin are supposed to have their own relationship that doesn't completely rely on being in team flash. yes, they comfort each other, yes, they're friends, yes, they work together, yes, they protect each other, yes, caitlin doesn't want him dead and vice versa. but. i just don't personally think they'd make good queerplatonic partners. i hc caitlin and cisco as a qpr because of their brother-sister dynamic, i hc karolsen as a qpr because they're romantic exes, and that's not the dynamic between caitlin and barry. a crush on either's part was never actually realized canon and they're just not siblinglike in nature to me. it's lovely barry tells her that she's his family, i don't think he meant it in a way that was as specific as brotherly like cisco specifies his relationship with her, i think barry meant it more generally.

they're friends, co-workers and a part of the same found family, i just don't personally think they'd want to put another level onto their canon relationship the way a queerplatonic partnership would

it's so silly to think about who i was when i started the polycule au. i was still in high school. i was unhappily, though utterly convinced i was going to be with my ex gf forever. i also thought i was going to be with my ex bf forever, but, y'know, i was looking forward to that one. i thought i was going to be dead longgg before i could say i'd survived 2 decades living.

now, i'm turning 21 this november. i'm singling and mingling. i'm actually half-way confident and i can't remember the last time i purposefully self-harmed. i have clothes i like. i know what path i want to take for my future transition. i have a fucking job. i know what i want for my career, even if its definitely not super achievable right now (frosty wants to do porn, how utterly surprising). five years. FIVE YEARS. i don't remember if i even knew my own name back then, or my pronouns. what a wackadoodle doo 15y/o i used to be. what a fuckable 20something i am now

i really like their s1-2 dynamic and i feel the reason their friendship was pushed aside was because they didnt want to overshadow the westallen dynamic. but s1 barry & caitlin were really great. i feel like they wouldn't really have any kind of physical level to their partnership but i like the idea of tthem having an unspoken bond. maybe it would never be like outright stated as a qpr but i do fw it the concept. idk ive been REALLY going back and forth because i dont like the romantic ship (i would enjoy snowestallen in an au setting i think) but their bond is really just <333 to me. idk i dont think im gonna go for it in my au but i was rlly considering it.

What’s a ship week?

A ship week is a fan event where for a week we make works about one ship! Think about it like Inktober, you get one different prompt for each day and you make something out of it, but with the same medium, or, in this case, same ship!

Is this only for fanfiction/fanart?

No! You can use whatever medium you desire for the prompts. The most common methods are fanfiction and fanart, but if you want to create a cosplay or some fake social media posts or anything else your creative heart desires, go for it!

Do I have to do both prompts each day?

No! Each day is designed to have two options, one of which is good for fanart as well as fanfic. You CAN choose to do both prompts if you want, or incorporate both prompts into a single work, but it's designed to give some options and variety!

Do I have to participate in the full week?

You can participate in as many or as few days as you'd like! There's no minimum requirement for participation!

Do we have to create each piece during its own day?

Nope! Some people like the challenge of creating something different every day, but you can totally prepare them in advance if you want to. You don’t even have to complete all of the prompts, you can do just the few you like, no pressure!

How do I participate?

Just create whatever you like with the prompts you’re given and post them under the “#Cadina Week” and “#Cadina Week 2025” tags on Tumblr. We will also have an AO3 collection (keep reading for more info on this).

What's this about an AO3 collection?

Once our AO3 account is fully set up, we will be creating a collection for Cadina Week that you can submit your works to. We will be moderating this lightly, just to make sure that it's actually Cadina Week submissions and not spam, but we welcome all who want to participate!

Can I post NSFW?

Yes, please just make sure it is appropriately tagged on Tumblr and/or AO3!
