Researchers at the University of Bayreuth present novel electrospun nonwovens in Science Advances that exhibit an unusual combination of high electrical conductivity and extremely low thermal conductivity.
The nonwovens represent a breakthrough in materials research: it has been possible to decouple electrical and thermal conductivity based on a simple-to-implement material concept. The nonwovens are made of carbon and silicon-based ceramic via electrospinning process and are attractive for technological applications, for example, in energy technology and electronics. They can be manufactured and processed cost-effectively on an industrial scale.
Normally, high electrical conductivity is associated with high thermal conductivity, and low thermal conductivity goes with low electrical conductivity. However, in many high-tech industries, there is growing interest in multifunctional materials that that combine good electric with low thermal transport.
Though several strategies have been developed in the materials, like dense inorganic materials, conjugated polymers, and alloys, achieving extremely low thermal conductivity in combination with high electrical conductivity is still a major challenge for flexible, foldable materials.

my original plan was for tj's costume to look kind of power rangery once he finally gets one but to actually protect him against the specific things he needs protection from i think that will probably not end up being true lol
#he is mostly immune to overpressure and bursts of heat and such but not to shrapnel or ballistics or some contaminants#so i am working in things like soft body armor and an elastomeric respirator lol#trying not to make him too military though. hopefully he will look like a cross between a mad scientist a miner and a demolition man#nadia rambles#oc stuff#refactor aka tj#also a little bit of ''crossing guard'' probably#tj is also only partly resistant to blunt force from crushing or impact and Not to being thrown so he needs like... spinal protection lmfao#of course i'm also out here putting seth in a skintight jumpsuit but they need the mobility and it's probably still kevlar#also their flame form is semi incorporeal so like... tj can't do that lmfao#NAOMI needs more protection But she is mostly a stealth and acrobatic character so it would not make sense to do armor plates#her likelihood of running into an explosion is much lower lmfaooo#it is likely an aramid blend though so it prob still offers some decent abrasion resistance (same for seth)#annie's costume is mostly for insulation but i do want to fix her helmet setup#she does so much stuff that's electrical or magnetic that she really doesn't need the armor. both because like#her foes are mostly similar themes and because she has very lite magneto powers so can theoretically disrupt bullet trajectories
