Idia ED HCs

as the title implies this is covering eating disorders so be cautious if sensitive to this. reader beware type deal, also game spoilers

ok Ive done this before actually but it was vague and I offered zero proof so I’m doing this correctly now. I covered Azul in that old post too and his own post will be coming soon as well. Lets get into Idia now.

To start: how this will be done and his ED I think he has. For card and homescreen lines I’m just going to quote them as I don’t want this bogged down with too many screenshots but I will show as many event and main game ones as I can instead for those.

Now what do I think he has? ARFID but specifically the Lack of Interest variant. For reference this is described by the Eating Recovery Center as showing little or zero interest in food. Which can cause forgetting to eat, low appetite or distracted at eating time, or even extreme “picky eating” which limits what you eat or how much.(note I am also pairing this with a linked dx hc of autism for him link to a short article about this)

Now with this specific HC it more so was picked because he isn’t aiming for a weight goal or focusing on a specific idea (ie clean eating for example) but his foods he will touch are safe + him admitting he forgets to eat. As self admitted in the cooking event.

He seems very sensory on what he picks. In his Student intro sheet he hates raw fish but loves candy. Which is then backed up with his dorm uniform line, “Oh hey, want a gummy worm? …I just love brightly- colored candy.” A Birthday Boy line, “When I was out shopping, Sam said he’d throw in a little extra for my birthday. H-he gave me free candy! What a top-tier guy.” Chef card talking about sensory issues, “Ugh,that slimy feeling when ground meat squelches between your fingers gives me the creeps!”

As far as safe foods other than candy while he is picky on fruit he will eat it. In the Applepom event card he mentions buying dried fruit, “TA-DA! Here’s the dried fruit I bought at Kokko Market! I figured it’d be the perfect snack.” In the same event in chapter 2-2 he also states, “I only eat fruit if it’s canned or already sliced and peeled. But peeling this thing myself sounds like a chore…”

There is also his birthday interview about food,

“Thank you. So, what’s your favorite food? ” Idia , “…Snacks. They taste good, and are easy to eat while you’re gaming. Can you name a better combo? If I had to be more specific, I’d go with DIY candy kits, where you make candy sushi and such by mixing water into powder packets. It turns snacktime into a game! It’s easy to get totally absorbed, too. Whee hee hee. There’s something genuinely engaging about being able to change the shape and color yourself. It’s definitely not just for kids, okay?” I love this as a lore he stated because it fits into the idea of finding a way to introduce a food he would try: turn it into a game

Further sensory mentions with him hating raw fish in birthday boy, “Raw fish. It stinks, it’s lukewarm, it’s all slimy and clingy and sticky…”

In the same line from that card he actually talks further about how he feels about eating, “And who’s got time for food you need proper tableware to eat? That’s just a ton of pointless busywork for one lousy meal. Who cares how you get nutrients, as long as you get them? Just eat an energy bar with vitamins and minerals! Bam, EZ.”

This isn’t the only time he talks about wanting an easy way out of eating. In the chef card he described cooking as inefficient and mentions meal replacements. He did however seem open to at least try things if he could build basically a slowcooker that prepped the food along with cooking it.

As one more safe food- ramen seems to be okay. A chef card homescreen line states, “Weird. I was meant to be buying ingredients, but next thing you know I’ve got a new type of instant noodles in my hand. Guess I’ll add it to the collection.”

As a conclusion, I don’t think Idia would see this as a disorder. While his family is stated by him to be concerned including Ortho-

We can see his family has concerns that he knows of but I do not think he sees it as a literal disorder. He is in online gaming circles and really limited diets aren’t uncommon in them so they could also be normalized in his eyes. Along with being so isolated his whole life it isn’t far fetched to think he saw this as normal for a while as is. But I do also think he doesn’t want to be like this. He did, even if just for the credits, join the class and did try his best. He looked upset about Ortho being worried. He is one I don’t think he’ll eat everything under the sun even with the top of the line doctors. But I do think he will eventually work through and with accommodating himself find a few things he can handle and maybe even semi-enjoy.

There is an alchemical mystery with my facial regime. My skin is sensitive and I’ve found that natural stuff works best for me. So after I get out of the shower I’ll use rose water and witch hazel toner. It smells gently of roses. Once that dries I apply a few drops of rosehip oil as a moisturizer. This doesn’t smell like much of anything.

Shortly into using these products my betrothed came up and just started frantically sniffing my face. I laughed and fended them off, asking what was up. They told me I smelled like watermelon. Fresh, authentic watermelon, not the synthetic candy smell. I was bewildered. None of my facial stuff had that smell.

This bizarre phenomena was however not consistent. They’d sniff my face other times and say I just smelled faintly of roses.

Then one day they used my combo. They’d been using it for a week or so. I got close for a kiss then frantically started sniffing them. It was like the most delicious mouth watering watermelon smell. But it only happened once or twice and never again.

Some kind of perfect chemical balance has to be in place for the watermelon effect but we both love it.

• They’re all dating.

yall i am craving some of the foods that my old partner from team plasma made me all the time and i am so tempted to try calling all his phone numbers and visiting his old haunts. he grew all his ingredients in this wonderful green house that he technically-illegally owned off the side of a route. so it wouldnt be the same from a store, i know cuz ive tried ones from stores or from other people.

i miss: his crispy fried soy curls with nutritional yeast and veggie seasoning. his black-bean brownies. his apricorn smoothies with spinach and bananas and lovingly picked berry combos. his home-made-go-meals of buns filled with seitan sausage and cheese substitute or my favorite berry chunks that he'd always have on days where we'd have a raid on a breeding mill. his little candies that he would shape almost like pokemon but theyd always be lopsided. the way he'd always be able to find some form of food that would work great with whatever tea id bring and wed have a short picnic before we got yelled at for absconding for too long. how hed laugh at my jokes even when they were drier than the desert resort and his laugh was this quiet chuckle but it made my world. his roast potatoes with a thick garlic-and-brown-sugar glaze. how we'd both work so well together like the faces of a klink. his little sitrus-and-pecha buns that hed give me to take home the days after we got into fights with each other over different opinions as an apology. how hed love everything i cooked for him back, teas and breads and over-dried fruit leather. how i eventually learned how to read his blank facial expressions clearer than anything and ive never been able to read a human face but i could read his. he understood me and i understood him.

i wonder if he'd hate me now. if he would punch me in the face like he did that one counter-protester at that gym rally. hed probably do worse to me. i wonder if he got out. as part of my parole, i cant contact anyone from plasma. i miss him so much, i feel like im half empty. he wouldnt recognize me, hed see me only as the enemy that we fought against for so long. i dont even recognize myself today. my hairs the wrong color, wrong length, my facial expressions all different, the way i interact with others all wrong, other people are all wrong, trainers and pokemon all wrong, food tastes wrong, im all wrong. im going to bed. maybe everything will feel right in the morning light. i miss feeling right. i miss the certainty. i miss him. damnit alum.

Tasty Tuesday is when I share some of my recipes - I try to focus on ones that are easy and customizable. I won't make any guarantees of healthy recipes, because what some people consider healthy, I've seen others claim are absolutely terrible for you.

Here on the Safe Place, we follow the rule of Fed is Best. I don't believe in shaming anyone for the food they do or don't eat, because we're all in different situations. Your health and dietary needs could be completely different from mine, our finances may be different, and you may live in a food desert, whereas I don't.

Instead of worrying about the morals of food, I prefer to focus on providing options, and allowing my readers to make their own choices of which options to choose.

So, what goes in granola? The most basic granola is rolled oats, nuts, and sweetener. But you can add a lot of other things too! You can combine....

Calm Down and Cook Fancy Brownies

I once made dessert for an adult birthday party. The guest list was hip and chic New York City types and I wanted to impress. I wanted to impress but I also had little time available. So I went with a brownie mix but knew they couldn’t be “just brownies”, I thought I’d be so clever and just stir in different “mix-ins” into each of the 4 different batches of brownies. A little flavor intrigue for each brownie. This was so empowering because I immediately thought of 100 different choices. That was a long time ago and the only one I remember was Malt Balls. Malt balls are one of those things people always forget about but remember fondly. I put about one cup of malt balls in a ziplock bag, wrapped it in a dish towel, and smashed it with a hammer. This beautiful concoction of chips of chocolate and powdered malt was then stirred into the batter which was baked as usual. The party guests were blown away. I had invented malt ball brownies. What else could I invent and take all the credit for?

First step, a basic brownie. You may have a recipe that is tried and true but in a true “judgment-free zone” you can look to a mix. I like any mix by Ghirardelli’s but you can test out many to find your favorite. Some are fudgy, some are cakey. I like to line a brownie pan with foil or parchment. I make sure 2 opposite sides have some hanging over the edge. This way, if the pan is well-greased, you can lift the brownies right out and have tidy slices. Of course, the serving size is up to you, petite 1-inch squares or 3-inch slabs are both appropriate. Find the mix you like best and stick with it, and then start exploring options.

Explore Flavor your batter! A super easy way to bump up the flavor of your brownies is to simply add vanilla to the batter. It’s better but you don’t know why. This is where the phrase “je ne sais quoi” came from. But from there you can explore different flavor avenues. Instant coffee is lovely. 1 tablespoon is a good amount to start with, but be aware you are adding caffeine to the brownies (on top of the caffeine that comes with the chocolate). Call them mocha brownies and make your friends think you worked harder than you did. Try 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and call them Mexican, super easy (is there a place for a ½ spoonful of chili pepper here?) Is there a spice combo you love? Can you imagine it with chocolate? I can imagine something like ginger and cardamon. Give it a try, give it a fancy name. Another easy way to customize your brownies is with things stirred into the batter. Chocolate chips are the easiest. It can be bittersweet or milk chocolate, everyone has strong feelings about their favorite. An additional 3/4 cup of chips can actually be any kind and there’s a lot on the market now. White chocolate, peanut butter chips, cinnamon chips, and toffee also work as the additional stir-in. Nuts…go nuts. ¾ cup of your favorite kind. Walnuts and Almonds are good. You can go with pecans but I personally, for no specific reason, dislike pecans. Macadamia would be luxurious. Dried fruit is a way to pretend that your brownies are healthy. I’m kinda fond of dried cherries. Dried apricots mixed with chopped candied ginger would be elegant around the holidays. And now, candy. Add candy to your brownies. As previously mentioned, roughly chopped malt balls are very good and have a wee bit of a retro vibe. Very easy to do, try roughly chopped Andes Candies. And finally, a no-brainer, chopped Snickers bars, two of them should do. All these mix-ins can be stirred into the batter or sprinkled on top. Are you ready to take it one step further? Look to jam. You will want to use no more than ¾ cup. If you warm jam in the microwave a tiny bit it will become runnier. After you put your batter in the pan, put blobs of jam evenly spaced around the top. Then take a knife or a spoon and swirl around. Try to keep it evenly spaced. This is something that can be done with any nut butter too. A Cheesecake ribbon throughout the brownies is fun. I have found 8 ounces of cream cheese mixed thoroughly with an egg and a ⅓ of a cup of sugar is perfect. Stir these together until perfectly smooth and then swirl throughout. Once you perfect this you can flavor the cream cheese mixture with vanilla, instant coffee, or whatever you want.
