HAUNTED
Summary: You awaken from a two-year coma to find that Detective Lois has been eagerly awaiting your recovery, believing you might have witnessed something crucial to catching a serial killer. What you didn’t expect is to learn that she suspects your doctor of being the murderer—and even more shockingly, it appears that you are married to him. Now, you must uncover your lost memories and find out who Charlie Mayhew truly is to you.
Author's Note: Yes, I'm writing another fanfic featuring Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s character from Grotesquerie. The characters belong to the universe created by Ryan Murphy in the series Grotesquerie (2024). This fanfic will include violence, strong language, and adult content. It will portray the character Charlie Mayhew as a doctor. I hope you enjoy the fanfic, but there's nothing certain about its future. If you like this fanfic, please interact, leave comments. This author will be grateful for any interaction.

TWO
You were finally discharged from the hospital after nearly a week of being poked, prodded, and thoroughly examined. However, your husband seemed displeased with the last conversation you shared. He hadn’t returned to visit you, leaving an unsettling emptiness in your chest. Even in your dreams, the striking face of your husband was absent. The fictional priest, your recurring specter, no longer graced you with his haunting visits. Detective Lois came to see you twice. The first time, you welcomed her, but when she began disparaging your husband, you quickly lost interest in continuing the conversation. The second time, you thought it best to turn her away before Dr. Mayhew discovered she had been there.
Now you are packing your clothes to return home—clothes you do not recall buying or ever wearing before. A house that does not feel like a home, for you have no memory of it. Whether you like it or not, Dr. Mayhew is the only semblance of familiarity you have. Yet, he seems to have lost interest in you. He is probably ready to file for divorce and pursue his happily ever after with the detective with whom he may or may not have had an affair.
"Mrs. Mayhew, are you ready to go home?" a strange man asks as he stands in the doorway. He is wearing a suit, and from the formal way he speaks to you, you assume he is not a relative of yours.
"I'm sorry, but I have no idea who you are. Actually, I'm waiting for my husband." You say, holding your suitcase while sitting on the edge of the hospital bed. The man seems to be preparing to say something that will hurt you. "Mrs. Mayhew, I’m your husband's driver. He can’t pick you up; he had an urgent commitment." He says, adjusting his suit, almost as if he’s embarrassed by the news. He seems to feel pity for you. For some reason, the fact that your husband is avoiding you irritates you.
"In that case, let's go." You say, a bit downcast but holding onto your suitcase tightly, trying not to let your anger show. You know there will be a moment when you'll give your husband a lesson—he's the one who deserves to hear your complaints.
"Follow me, I'll take you to the car and we'll head to your house soon," the driver says, raising his arm for you to hold onto as you make your way to the hospital exit. You try to keep up the appearance of being fine, smiling as you say goodbye to the hospital staff while being accompanied by your husband’s driver, Ed. As he drives you home, he starts talking about his life. He tells you how you had recommended him for the job as a personal driver. You learn that you used to give him art lessons and suggested him to your husband. The information leaves you more confused. You have the impression that you were wealthy, given the fancy clothes you wear and the fact that you have a private driver, but it seems you were also teaching art. This leaves you wondering about the life you used to lead in your own home.
When you arrive at the house, it’s almost everything you imagined. It’s large, not a mansion, but it has two floors, a garden, and a pool. Ed helps you out of the car and guides you on where to place your luggage, leading you toward the entrance of the house.
"On the first floor, you’ll find the kitchen, living room, laundry, and a guest bedroom. There’s also a dining room, but it’s only used for special occasions. On the second floor, there’s the master suite and the boss’s office. If you’d like, I can take you there," Ed says politely, though you sense that you need to spend some time getting familiar with your home and you don't want to bother Ed with your demands.
"There’s no need to trouble yourself, Ed. You’re free to go, and thank you for taking the time to pick me up from the hospital," you say graciously.
"It was my pleasure to assist you. If you need anything, I'll be just outside," Ed says before leaving you alone. For a moment, you find yourself captivated, taking in the details of the first floor of your home. As you admire the kitchen, a sudden noise from the upper floor catches your attention.
You freeze, startled by the unexpected noise. You were certain you were alone in the house, but now it seems you might have company. The thought races through your mind—it could be a burglar or perhaps one of your husband's mistresses waiting for his return, especially since you're convinced he's not home. Uncertain of your next move, you consider calling for Ed, but that might alert whoever is upstairs. Resolute, you grab a knife from the kitchen, gripping it tightly as you ascend the stairs, steeling yourself to confront whoever dares to intrude, the sound of water running hinting at someone taking a bath above.
You step into the master suite, your eyes scanning the space. Scattered across the bed are some of your husband's clothes, as though he had been deciding what to wear. Framed photos of the two of you together adorn the room, alongside other items that affirm this as the bedroom of a married couple. However, investigating the nuances of your marital life is not why you climbed the unnecessarily numerous stairs. Silently, you make your way to the bathroom, drawn by the muffled sounds coming from within the shower, mingling with the steady cascade of water. Your heart pounds as you realize—there's definitely a man in there, taking a shower. You grip the knife tightly in your hands and gather your courage to open the shower curtain.
Your husband stands before you, utterly exposed, his body glistening with water and lightly lathered with soap, one hand still gripping his cock mid-motion. "What the hell, Y/N?" Doctor Mayhew exclaims, his voice laced with shock and alarm.
Frozen for a moment, you struggle to process the scene, your grip tightening around the knife in your hand. Heat rises to your face, and without thinking further, you turn on your heel abruptly, your embarrassment overwhelming. "I— I didn’t know it was you," you stammer, your voice shaky as you try to compose yourself, your back still turned to him.
"Did it ever occur to you to ask?" your husband snaps, his voice sharp with irritation. You're unsure if his anger stems from being caught in such a vulnerable state or from having his private moment interrupted.
"It didn’t cross my mind," you retort, doing your best to maintain your composure despite the vivid image of his naked form lingering in your thoughts. "Especially since I assumed a man too busy to fetch his own wife from the hospital wouldn’t be occupied... pleasuring himself in the shower." Your tone is steady, but there's a slight edge to your words, masking your own embarrassment.
"I thought you'd prefer to return with someone you didn't consider a cold-blooded, adulterous murderer," Doctor Mayhew says, his tone laced with dry humor as he continues his shower. "Had I known you cared about my presence, I would have been there. And as for giving myself pleasure, despite the belief that I've had a torrid affair with another woman, my fidelity to you is so absolute that my only mistress is my hand." He chuckles softly, the sound almost mocking, while you remain rooted in place, still stunned and unable to respond or even move.
"If you'd cared enough to visit me after our last meeting, you would have known that I did want you there to bring me home," you say, your voice tinged with hurt. The air grows heavy for a moment, the tension palpable, until the sound of the running water comes to an abrupt stop.
"I was there every day," Doctor Mayhew replies, his tone soft yet steady. "But only while you were asleep. I didn’t want to trouble you. Your doctors told me you were improving, and I thought my presence might upset you." He steps out of the shower, the sound of his movements drawing closer to you. You can feel his breath against your neck, sending a shiver down your spine. Before you can respond, his arms encircle yours, gently but firmly taking the knife from your grip. He places it on the bathroom counter, the action deliberate yet tender.
You turn, now standing face-to-face with your husband, Doctor Mayhew. A towel is loosely wrapped around his waist, droplets of water still trailing down his skin. "I wanted you there," you murmur, your voice barely audible, the words almost brushing against his lips. His face is dangerously close to yours, his presence overwhelming.
"I'm sorry, mi amor. I should have brought you home," he says, his voice low and full of regret as he steps even closer. Your eyes instinctively fall to his lips before locking onto his gaze. A heat rises within you, an undeniable pull—an ache to claim what is already yours.
And as if driven by instinct, you rise on your toes and press your lips to his in a tentative kiss, barely a whisper of contact, as though testing the waters. The taste of him is intoxicating—something that feels like it should be savored again and again. It’s overwhelming, addictive, his soft lips brushing against yours as your heart seems to stop for a fleeting moment. But caution wins, and you pull back, breath hitching as you study him. His eyes remain closed for a moment longer, his fingers brushing over his lips as though to confirm the reality of what just transpired. Slowly, his eyes open, smoldering with an intensity that takes your breath away.
"You shouldn’t have done that," Doctor Mayhew murmurs, his voice a low growl. Before you can respond, his arms snake around your waist, lifting you effortlessly as he crashes his lips into yours with fervor. The kiss is fire itself—searing and unrelenting, as though he wants to consume you entirely, pulling you closer, desperate for more of you with each passing second.
And it’s as if something ignites within you, a spark that feels as though you’ve always belonged to him. “Charlie…” you murmur between his kisses, your breaths coming in short gasps as you try to steady yourself.
He pulls back slightly, his eyes wide with surprise, though a glimmer of adoration softens his features. “That’s the first time you’ve called me Charlie since you woke up,” he whispers, his voice almost reverent against your lips.
You respond with a tender peck, letting yourself sink into the safety of his arms. “I wish I could remember you. I hope you know that,” you confess, gazing into his eyes. It’s the most honest thing you’ve said since you regained consciousness, and the raw sincerity in your voice hangs between you like a fragile thread of hope.
"I don’t care that you’ve forgotten me. I only want you to allow yourself to get to know me again," Charlie says softly, leaning in to press a kiss to your cheek.
"Do you think having sex would help me remember you?" The question escapes your lips before you can even process it, the desire that’s been simmering since you saw him moments ago suddenly rising to the surface.
Charlie freezes, his lips lingering near your skin as his breath hitches. His gaze locks onto yours, a mix of surprise and amusement flickering in his eyes. "I thought I was the doctor here," Charlie murmurs, a faint smirk curving his lips as his eyes search yours. The teasing tone in his voice doesn’t mask the tension building between you.
He takes a step closer, his hands gently finding your waist, his touch sending a shiver down your spine. "But if that’s your hypothesis..." his voice drops, low and intoxicating, "I’d be more than willing to help you test it." The heat in his gaze is undeniable, yet there’s a tenderness there, as though he’s waiting for your permission to cross the line you just hinted at.
The sound of a phone ringing breaks the moment, echoing from the direction of the bedroom. Charlie seems momentarily hesitant, glancing toward the source of the noise before he gives in and walks over to answer it. His voice lowers, the words indistinct as he speaks in murmurs, clearly trying to keep the conversation private. You stand there, feeling a shift in the atmosphere as his attention moves elsewhere. When he returns, there's a visible change in his demeanor, a hint of disappointment in his eyes. "Unfortunately, we can't test your hypothesis right now," he says, his tone a little colder than before. He plants a soft kiss on your lips before continuing, trying to lighten the mood. "I have a patient in need of urgent assistance."
Charlie leans in to give you a quick kiss on the lips, a fleeting gesture to maintain some connection despite the shift in mood. "But you’re welcome to stay here, take a relaxing bath, and explore the house. The only room that’s locked is my office, but the rest is open. You’ve met Ed, our driver. Mary, the housekeeper, is here as well, though you haven’t met her yet. If you’re hungry, all the takeout numbers are by the phone," he says before turning to finish getting ready.
As he finishes getting dressed, you can sense something unspoken hanging in the air between you, his demeanor colder now. "And, if you want to pick up where we left off later... just let me know," he adds, his words lingering in the space between you, leaving the invitation open yet uncertain. He pauses, studying you for a moment longer than necessary before turning to finish his preparations, the unspoken tension between you both hanging in the air.
"I think I'll take a bath and get acquainted with the house, but I'd like to have dinner with you," you say as you watch him finish getting dressed for work, struggling with the knot of his tie. You step forward, as if you're naturally accustomed to this, and expertly tie the knot for him—firm and neat. He smiles, genuinely appreciative.
"It seems like you still remember how to make a perfect tie knot," he comments, then takes your hands in his and presses a gentle kiss to your fingers. "I'll be here for dinner," he assures you before grabbing his briefcase and lab coat, rushing out the door. You're certainly charmed by your husband, but there's a growing sense of unease, too. Why would he be so secretive about his calls and office if he has nothing to hide?

National Geographic is freshening up its programming slate.
The network has ordered four new series including The Real Finding Nemo and Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston.
It is the first slate of programming since it emerged that a large number of Nat Geo titles including Life Below Zero and Wicked Tuna were coming to an end.
Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston is a historical exploration about the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and the preserved Roman city it left behind. Hiddleston, who studied Classics at Cambridge University, exec produces alongside his Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright.
It comes from Plimsoll Productions, which is behind Nat Geo series including A Real Bug’s Life and The Devil’s Climb. Grant Mansfield, Alan Eyres, Helen Flint and Tom Barbor-Might exec produce for Plimsoll and Carolyn Payne exec produces for Nat Geo.
Hiddleston is the latest celebrity to front a Nat Geo series after Chris Hemsworth, who hosted Limitless and Will Smith with Welcome To Earth.
The Real Finding Nemo (w/t) comes on the back of A Real Bug’s Life. It will explore dynamics of life on the reef and beyond via a clown fish.
The series comes from Our Great National Parks producer Freeborne Media, whose James Honeyborne exec produces alongside Tracy Rudolph Jackson for Nat Geo.
Elsewhere, Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort and BBC Studios Science Unit have teamed on Meet The Planets (w/t), an astronomy series that brings the galaxy’s most famous family to life, with the sun as the matriarch, surrounded by her unruly planetary children. It will feature comedy and animation.
Andrew Cohen exec produces for BBC Studios Science Unit alongside Betsy Forhan for Nat Geo.
Finally, the network is expanding its One Day In strand with Diana: One Day In Paris. The three-part series will explore the tragic death of Princess Diana on the 30th anniversary of that paparazzi car chase through a Parisian motorway tunnel.
It follows 9/11: One Day in America and JFK: One Day in America and comes from 72 Films.
It will feature rare archives and interviews with witnesses who have never spoken publicly as it looks at the 24 hours before and after Diana’s death and follow the story through to her funeral one week later.
David Glover and Mark Raphael exec produce for 72 Films alongside Carolyn Payne for Nat Geo and TJ Martin and Dan Lindsay.
All of this comes after Nat Geo axed Wicked Tuna earlier this summer. The Pilgrim Media Group-produced series, which follows a group of fisherman from Gloucester, Masschusetts as they rod and reel fish bluefin tuna, had been airing on the network since 2012 and 13 seasons.
Nat Geo’s Emmy-winning series Life Below Zero is also ending after its 23rd season, per star Chip Hailstone. Spinoffs including Next Generation, First Alaskans and Northern Territories are also ending.
Other titles not returning to Nat Geo include The Incredible Dr Pol, after 24 seasons, and Dr. Oakley Yukon Vet, after 12 seasons.
“These new unscripted series epitomize everything National Geographic stands for — bold, captivating storytelling rooted in world-class research and expertise,” said Tom McDonald, EVP of Global Unscripted and Factual Content. “National Geographic is building on its reputation as the home of the most distinctive factual series from the very best storytellers in the world.”

What AI do I use? Do I take requests?
youtube
This will help a bit but you will have to research what you can run locally with your VRAM. For me I have 16 gb VRAM and 64 gb RAM, I run Flux Dev GGUF. When wanting a specific person use PULID here are my settings, in pluidlux adjust weight higher for better face match lower for better quality, have to find the sweet spot, I try to stay between .55-.85. If you aren't running PULID and just generating images you can use a higher Q Flux model, depending on your VRAM, Q8 is what I am able to use. There's also LORAs but I will let you research those on your own.

my 75 soft? hard? medium? challenge.
start date: july 1st, 2024 end date: september 14th, 2024
i'm doing this challenge to primarily change my lifestyle and become the best version of myself in a sustainable manner. for that, I decided to combine the two challenges and even add a few new goals.
the 75 soft challenge is not too challenging for me, but the 75 hard one might be a little bit too challenging for me right now to do consistently. also, I wanted to add a few other rules to integrate the challenge more into becoming the best version of myself.
🌷 rules: you can read the original rules here
🌷 my rules:
♡ eat well & no drinking alcohol. eating a balanced diet, with no restrictions or limits because i struggled with eds in the past and i dont want to slip back that. ♡ drink 3,5 liters per day. the majority will be water, i'll be also consuming teas for their health benefits. ♡ two 45 minutes workouts per day, one must be outside. but i can take a rest day on the heaviest day of my period. ♡ 10 pages of nonfiction reading per day. since the start of 2024 i've been reading daily: - 365 days with self-discipline by martin meadows - the daily stoic by ryan holiday in addition to that, the following books are on my tbr: - the power of now by eckhart tolle - mindset: the new psychology of success by carol s. dweck (276 pages) - breaking the habit of being yourself by dr. joe dispenza (329 pages) - why has nobody told me this before? by julie smith (368 pages) - burnout: the secret to unlocking the stress cycle by emily nagosaki (227 pages) - atomic habits by james clear (319 pages) ♡ take a progress picture everyday. - which i won't be posting online! ♡ spend atleast 30 mins per day on a hobby. - i want to restart studying korean and start learning how to code. ♡ no procrastination. - that is probably my biggest flaw. i procrastinate way to much and even put myself in awful situations that could have been easily avoided. ♡ if i fail one habit, i have to restart the challenge!
🌷 progress:

Character Profile: Jonathon Young / Nikola Tesla
youtube
Damian Kindler (creator, executive producer & writer): Tesla's one of our favorite characters. He's a fan favorite, he's a writer favorite, he's an actor favorite.
Christopher Heyerdahl ("John Druitt/Big Foot"): I love that character. It's always so much fun watching a Tesla episode...
Ryan Robbins ("Henry Foss"): I think as far as vampires go, Tesla's probably the coolest vampire out there. I'm not just saying that because he's on our show, but I think the way Jonathon plays him makes him a very cool, very relevant vampire. He's not a stereotypical...He's not what you see. He's really done something really interesting with Tesla. He's very bright, very intelligent. Not to say the other guys aren't bright and intelligent, but you know what I mean. He doesn't sparkle.
Jonathon Young ("Nikola Tesla"): I've played Nikola Tesla on stage before, in a very different show, that really was a historical drama about his life, so my job in that play was to do research, collect anecdotes about him, and then try to create a portrait that came from that.
Christopher: He's known for playing Nikola Tesla and doing a great job. He's an extremely talented, one of our great talents in Canada. He's an amazing actor. He's one of those people who has a special gift. He's gifted physically, he's gifted intellectually, he's very graceful, and very specific in all his movements, and it's beautiful to watch. So, when they were talking about this character, Nikola Tesla... but he's going to be a vampire, I thought, "I don't know. Will Jonathon even be interested? I mean, this sounds kind of silly." You know, he's taking a character that he knows inside out, and we're going to make a vampire out of this? But at the same time, Jonathon has the look of a vampire. He has these amazing teeth, and they're very vampiric in many ways. I just thought he'd be perfect, and anyway, he'd probably have a hell of a lot of fun with it.
Jonathon: It became clear right away that the Sanctuary Tesla isn't so much interested in a imitation of a historical character, and I think that what's in the script is that he loves ideas above all else, he loves himself above anyone else, that he's intensely competitive, and that he has an arrogance about him that puts himself ahead of everyone else. Of course Tesla's ultimate goal is, you know, world domination.
Magnus: You're mad, Nikola.
Tesla: No! The Philadelphia Experiment was mad, but this... is progress.
Martin Wood (executive producer & director): One of the cool things about season three is we bring back Nikola Tesla, now the non-vampire version of Nikola Tesla.
Tesla: Well, I hope you're all happy now. I'm ordinary.
Martin: It's funny because everybody loves Tesla as a vampire, and the problem is, when you have a character that everybody loves the way they are, as soon as you start changing them, everybody goes, "You can't do that! That's our favorite guy! He does that!" You know, it's crazy.
Tesla: Here's to the glorious vampire race, once mighty, now extinct.
Amanda Tapping (executive producer, director & "Dr. Helen Magnus"): He's left de-vamped. He's left with this other gift, which he will call his incredible magnetism, I'm sure, but he... Yeah, it's a different Tesla, and it's a Tesla struggling to sort of figure out what this gift means, and how he can use it.
Tesla: Well... I can work with that.
Jonathon: I think, like Tesla, I thought it was an opportunity for something new. I mean, that's how Tesla ends that whole episode. He's totally despondent, but then, that "I can work with that" moment is because I think he sort of looks at everything as a game, and an opportunity to work things to his own advantage, so I think his mind started turning right away, and for me, I mean, I think that one of the great joys about acting is that, even though I'm playing the same part, every time I come on set, it's always new, so... I... I felt confident that the writers have a master plan in mind, and that this was a detour that was going somewhere.
Magnus: Nikola, the door!
Martin: What happens in season three is he's magnetic, and he can do some fun tricks, but it's not as cool as being a vampire, so we may end up making him back into a vampire at some point.
Amanda: But I can just say that we've shot an incredible scene that changes that too. So... literally just shot it. I still have the blood on my hands.
Tesla: I'm back, baby. And it feels so good.
Damian: There's different types of Nikola Tesla stories. There's the "we get a message from Tesla, and he's in trouble, but not the kind of trouble we think, which leads to other trouble, and he's got the..." It's the "hidden agenda" Tesla stories.
Tesla: Well, I did say S.O.S. in my message.
Henry: "Trapped in a cave with nasty bugs" would have been much more helpful.
Tesla: I'm just looking for a way to turn this pointless ability into something extraordinary.
Henry: It makes sense, in an evil way.
Damian: Then we have the sort of story where Tesla's involved because he's a genius, and there's something epic, and weird, and crazy happening, and we require a genius to help us, and make us feel kind of crappy about ourselves with his genius. That's another story that Tesla's often involved in. We have a Tesla story about the past, when we see The Five in Victorian England, and even Edwardian England, and Tesla's part of that, because he was part of the group from back in Oxford days, in the late 1800s. And then there's a Tesla story that comes closer to the end of season three, where he doesn't have a hidden agenda, but he definitely kind of gets in over his head seeking knowledge.
Tesla: Helen, we're surrounded by the greatest trove of vampire knowledge the world has ever seen. It's killing me. I'm being robbed of my last great discovery. I've spent my life trying to piece together my ancestry.
Damian: And it's nice, because he's the sort of character who can really, you can stretch, and pull, and put in different positions. He's definitely not a bad guy. He's definitely not a pure-of-heart good guy. He's just this wonderful, colorful fly-in-the-ointment, you know, amazingly annoying, amazingly useful, brave, egomaniacal, funny, critical, mean-spirited, lovely, loyal.... you know, kind of character. We love him.
Tesla: You were good, but I was better.
Jonathon: Each script gives a lot of humor to Tesla with those things in mind. That's why he's so fun to play, because he... like I said before, he thinks of everything as a kind of game, or a competition.
Tesla: Your shaggy friend is still refusing treatment, and frankly, I'm insulted.
Will: Oh, right, yeah, because I forgot, this is all about you.
Tesla: I have spent weeks creating a working treatment for the Lazarus Virus, and in the end, the creep in the room with the hair doesn't want to take his medicine! It's personal, and we both know it is.
Jonathon: He doesn't care about the effects of, you know, being completely rude, or completely outspoken, and in his mind, he's number one, right?
Damian: Tesla and Magnus have one of those relationships that is hard to define, and I believe that's mainly due to the fact that they're both so old.
Tesla: Helen Magnus. Kiss me and I'll save your life.
Magnus: And if I don't?
Tesla: It's been over 60 years. Just plant one on me already.
Damian: I think that Tesla, he just abhors boring people.
Magnus: Nikola Tesla, you always did know how to get attention.
Amanda: It's so much fun to play it, but I can't describe it. It's... it's this crazy friendship, with this very, you know, unabashed sexual overtone to it, from both of them.
Magnus: You've always been like this, haven't you? Selfish and arrogant, putting your own desires before everyone else's.
Tesla: I brought you here for two reasons. Because only you can help me finish what I'm working on, and because I love you.
Magnus: Yes, so you keep... What?
Tesla: I always have.
Damian: And the thing that's the most, you know, kind of fetching about Magnus to him is that she's anything but boring, and I think that's what makes her attractive to him.
Amanda: When you've known somebody for that long, and they know you as well as Tesla and Magnus know each other, I think it's almost like that sexual tension is just explosive, but nothing can happen because it's, like, "Then would we still have that tension?"
Magnus: Oh, shut up and help me.
Tesla: My God, you look sexy with a gun.
Damian: I think that Tesla and Magnus probably at some point had some kind of thing that went on, because she admires the giant brain. He has a giant brain, but he's just too much of an oaf, and Magnus has way better taste than that, so I think it's one of those, over the 160-year period, you get to have those little trysts and not worry about them, although you still have to work with the person.
Tesla: You felt... genuine concern for me. Admit it.
Magnus: Nonsense.
Tesla: Oh... You still like me, it's so obvious.
Magnus: You tried to kill me.
Tesla: Well, but you know, we all hurt the ones we love.
Jonathon: Well, first and foremost, they're old friends, and I think it's based on competition. It's based on rivalry and respect, and, of course, of love of ideas and love of adventure. I'm always bringing up memories of adventures.
Tesla: You know, this reminds me of when we were in Egypt looking for Tut's tomb, huh? Oh, those wild early days. No ground-penetrating radar, no satellite imagery.
Magnus: We were barely better than graverobbers.
Jonathon: I mean, I think that Helen Magnus has Tesla under a kind of spell.
Jonathon: I mean, I think that Helen Magnus has Tesla under a kind of spell.
Tesla: Maybe a little tighter. You know, just to be safe.
Magnus: If you were any more transparent, you'd be invisible.
Jonathon: Whether or not there... was romance, I think should remain a secret until it's revealed, but there's clearly always the potential for that, but if anything, that makes the friendship that much more interesting and magnetic.
Amanda: It's an interesting... They're both incredible geniuses, they're both incredibly stubborn, and they both love each other deeply, though both of them are loathe to admit it.
Tesla: You have a Sasquatch for a butler, and you travel the world with history's most notorious murderer, and now you don't feel safe? Helen, green is not a good color on you.
Magnus: Don't be ridiculous.
Tesla: She's intelligent, powerful, remarkably well-preserved for her age, everything I look for in a woman. And unlike someone I know, she's actually interested in me.
Magnus: I'm not engaging in this childish conversation.
Tesla: The more you deny it, the truer it is.
Damian: I think Tesla's always had a deep, deep place in his heart for Magnus, but knows that he is never going to be the love of her life, that tall, bald, and homicidal Jack the Ripper is going to be the one that's got her heartstrings.
Magnus: We'll all meet back here with our keys.
Druitt: That leaves you and... Nikola. Your tests are marked for the same area.
Tesla: I guess your father liked us best as a couple.
Druitt: Helen, if you can wait, I...
Magnus: I'll be fine.
Tesla: Such chivalry.
Druitt: If any harm comes to her, accidental or otherwise...
Tesla: I have no reason to do her any harm, but you, I'm finding more reasons by the minute.
Magnus: Honestly. I am surrounded by adolescents.
Jonathon: Definitely the deepest animosity between Druitt and I, and it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. You know, what kind of jealousy there is there.
Christopher: Nicky's a pain in the ass, really. I think that if he saw the arse end of Nikola Tesla, he'd be a happy man.
Tesla: The power in that vial, it could change history, create any kind of future we choose.
Druitt: We?
Jonathon: It comes down to showmanship, too, I think. Who really is the most... Who has the most power, I think. Or who can go to the most extreme place. I mean, Druitt is such an extreme character with such darkness in him.
Tesla: Guess who's still standing?
Magnus: John?
Druitt: Hello, Nikola.
Jonathon: And when we first met Tesla, that was certainly the way Tesla was introduced, was that he was the darkest, or had the most capacity for evil.
Christopher: At the same time, there's a wonderful... respect and camaraderie to these two, that...
Tesla: John, really. He's not worth it, pardon the pun. If you kill him, he can't help her.
Adam: Same old Johnny.
Tesla: Shh, please.
Jonathon: We saw a more human side to him, as we have seen with Druitt, too. But again it comes down to... competition, and I think past grudges too.
Tesla: Nice move last time we met, Johnny. Took me a while to get over it.
Druitt: Not long enough, old boy. Care for another helping?
Jonathon: It's qualities of Tesla's that Tesla sees in Druitt, that Tesla reacts to the strongest, so it's when he... I mean, I think that that's true in life. When you actually take apart what it is you don't like so much about someone, often it's qualities that you have, so I think his arrogance, and his power, and, uh, his, of course, special bond with Magnus.
Magnus: Hand it over.
Tesla: Very well. But really, I have to say, when I imagined the splendor of the entry hall, an architectural site thousands of years old, a veritable marvel of art and design, and to think that the first witnesses to this spectacle will be Huey, Duey, and Screwy? Really, Helen, my heart sinks you chose them over me.
Magnus: Don't be bitter.
Tesla: But I do it so well.
Jonathon: Well, I think Tesla has such disdain for ordinary humans, and takes great pleasure in making that known.
Tesla: I want my life back. Look at me, Helen. I'm reduced to parlor tricks and Morse code. I can't even get out of a cobweb without help from these chumps. What am I now, human with... with benefits? It's pathetic.
Jonathon: And at any chance he can get, I think... making fun of how pathetic and weak regular humans are.
Tesla: You, I like. You, I don't know.
Will: I'm Dr. Zimmerman. I work with Dr. Magnus.
Tesla: Protégé. Well, the mission's necessary disposable item.
Magnus: Stop this, Nikola.
Robin Dunne ("Will Zimmerman"): Will and Nikola have an interesting relationship, I think. I don't know if you can even really call it a relationship. Definitely from Tesla's point of view, I'm sure he just sees Will as just some pathetic little human who, you know, is something of an annoyance. He kind of treats him as though he's a child.
Will: And you just happened to get trapped by them. God, that's so weird.
Tesla: Yeah, down, Junior. I didn't know they were here until they tried to make me part of the architecture.
Jonathon: As far as Tesla's concerned, Will's just not in the same class, and needs to be reminded of that, on a daily basis, to keep him in his place.
Will: Retrieve the Source Blood, and it's a grand slam?
Tesla: One thing at a time, Dr. Expendable.
Jonathon: I think because Will is so resilient too, and puts up with so much, because he believes in his work. I mean, as far as I can tell, Will believes in his job, and is devoted to Magnus, he becomes a great foil for Tesla's arrogance.
Will: You know what I say? I say you got yourself into a little bit of trouble, and you dragged us into the mess, too. So stop whining about it.
Tesla: I thought helping people was part of your job description.
Will: Yeah, people. You, Professor Hidden Agenda, not so much.
Robin: His opinion of Tesla is that Tesla's a guy who's in the Tesla business first and foremost, always has a secret agenda, doesn't ever do anything that doesn't benefit him in some way.
Tesla: Unprotected platinum coils? Wolf-boy... Have a word with him about power efficiency.
Magnus: I doubt Henry planned on this kind of re-purposing.
Tesla: That's no excuse.
Ryan: Tesla and Henry have an interesting relationship because I don't think Tesla respects Henry very much at all, and I think despite himself, Henry can't help but respect Tesla and admire him. I think Henry admires the guy, and hates him for being so clever.
Henry: Yeah, I get how you could generate a signal by clenching your kegels or whatever, but how did you get the range?
Tesla: Oh, you obviously didn't do any aerial mapping on your way in. Had you, you might have noticed the amplification properties of the local terrain.
Henry: Parabolic focus point. Okay, then wouldn't it be secondary signals...
Tesla: Hey, shh, shh! Slop. You'll hurl yourself, and I'm feeing far too tired to feign concern.
Henry: You're welcome. Jackass.
Ryan: It's the last guy in the world Henry wants to, you know, learn from, or look up to. I think he just despises so much about him. I mean, you can go back to that whole vampire/werewolf thing, where those are just two... They just never get along, historicity, ever.
Tesla: The Cabal have been planning this move for decades. I've had two days, a crappy lab, and Tiny Tim for an assistant, so please cut me some slack.
Henry: If you think working with you is a party, think again, Vlad!
Tesla: Good, you finally showed up. Quit your whining and get to work.
Jonathon: And he's got to work with Wolf-boy, in the lab, with the crappy antique tools that Magnus keeps around. I mean, I think when Tesla gets angry about something, especially if it's a mistake that he's made, he immediately blames somebody else, and I've found that fuels a lot of scenes is that often Tesla's just angry at his own predicament, or his own error, and that fuels a bunch of rage at someone else.
Tesla: Never bore your audience.
Damian: That, to me, is Tesla. "Never bore your audience." That's him. That's a very definitive moment. He's about to do something brave, but in his mind, it's like, "Well, I'm only doing this because God forbid anything should be dui and uninteresting." And he's about that. He's a genius, and geniuses are like that. A lot of criminals are geniuses because they're just bored silly living inside the rules of society, and Tesla's like the ultimate criminal genius.
Christopher: I think he's an enjoyable... an enjoyable person to dislike.
Amanda: He's the character you love to hate, and you love to love, because he's just so out there. Yeah, yeah, and he has become one of the most popular characters on the show, and for very good reason, not only because the actor playing him is so incredible, but because this character is such a fully realized... dink. You just love him. I don't know if I can use that word, but I'm gonna.
Tesla: Yeah, well, since when did I become the responsible member of this group? The big hairy one can answer the phone. I'm not missing out on this.
Druitt: You're absolutely determined to come with us?
Tesla: Of course I am.
Druitt: If you insist.
Tesla: Son. Of. A. Bitch!
Jonathon: That's what makes him so fun to play is... his ability to say absolutely anything.
Tesla: No, we mustn't forget our most important achievement of the day. My resurrection.
Magnus: Oh, here we go.
Tesla: Sweet, sweet resurrection.

Boy Bands in 5 Minutes — VoicePlay music video
youtube
People have been singing together since there have been people, but the specific phenomenon of boy bands really took form during the mid-20th century. In that grand tradition, VoicePlay had been performing a medley of songs from their mainstream counterparts infused with their own trademark silliness at live shows for years. With a few tweaks and a lot of hard work, they created this incredible audio-visual tour through decades of pop, rock, motown, and hip-hop hits. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. That is, if you can resist dancing along.
Details:
title: Boy Bands in 5 Minutes
original songs / performers: "I Want It That Way" by Backstreet Boys; [0:16] "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5; [0:42] "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles; [1:02] "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" by The Temptations; [1:23] "Walk Like A Man" by The Four Seasons; [1:54] "Candy Girl" by New Edition; [2:05] "Poison" by Bell Biv DeVoe; [2:23] "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" by New Kids on the Block; [2:39] "Thank You" & "Motownphilly" by Boyz II Men; [3:08] "The Hardest Thing" by 98 Degrees; [3:29] "I Want It That Way" (reprise); [4:03] "Pop" by *NSYNC; [4:29] "Best Song Ever" by One Direction; [4:50] "Fake Love" by BTS
written by: "I Want It That Way" by Andreas Carlsson & Max Martin; "I Want You Back" by Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren, Alphonso Mizell, & Deke Richards; "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by John Lennon & Paul McCartney; "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" by Norman Whitfield & Eddie Holland; "Walk Like A Man" by Bob Crewe & Bob Gaudio; "Candy Girl" by Maurice Starr & Michael Jonzun; "Poison" by Elliot "Dr. Freeze" Straite; "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" by Maurice Starr; "Thank You" by Dallas Austin & Boyz II Men; "Mowtownphilly" by Dallas Austin, Michael Bivins, Nathan Morris, & Shawn Stockman; "The Hardest Thing" by Steve Kipner & David Frank; "Pop" by Justin Timberlake & Wade Robson; "Best Song Ever" by Wayne Hector, "John the Blind" Ryan, Ed Drewett, & Julian Bunetta; "Fake Love" by "Hitman" Bang Si-hyuk, Kim "RM" Nam-joon, & Kang "Pdogg" Hyo-won
arranged by: Geoff Castellucci
release date: 14 June 2019
My favorite bits:
easing into things with harmonies of a memorable song from their own youth, then jumping back to the early stuff
Earl at nearly 40 sounding just as good as preteen Michael Jackson on those high vocals
the clever camera wipe transitions that allow them to change outfits and positions to reflect each group
the rhythm section doing some air instrumentation during "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" 🎸🥁
J.None actually not being too proud to ask his bandmates to come back after they jazz-square-slide away
using the whip pan to and from the gossipers to make another costume change
Geoff pushing past Earl, which propels Eli off screen and into the right order for the next dance sequence
the beautiful juxtaposition of the "Single Ladies" choreography done to "Walk Like A Man" 💃🕺
the airy decending sounds Layne makes as they all fall down and the camera spins into the next song
getting back to their barbershop roots for "Candy Girl"
bracketing "Thank You" with the unmistakeable bell chords from "Motownphilly"
Layne doing the quick change "wrong" and yanking off his dickie with dramatic flair as he starts beatboxing again
the whole montage of "Pop"-able items, particularly the intense Bubble Tape™ stand-off, and J.None being showered in bubbles
playing up the dork-itude of the One Direction dance moves
that chromatic descent transitioning into the final song
the delightful floof of Geoff's hair as he rebounds the cascading movement back down the line
that lush ending, complete with Eli's fantastic riff

Trivia:
○ This video was the result of a Patreon poll, and the option the guys least wanted to win, because they knew how much work it would be. But they committed to it like the professionals they are, going all out on the music, costumes, and choreography.
○ The medley is an update / expansion of the previous version they had been performing at live shows for many years. They took the opportunity to swap out some songs in the earlier arrangement for others by the same artists:
Jackson 5 — "ABC" ⇒ "I Want You Back"
Four Seasons — "Sherry" ⇒ "Walk Like a Man"
*NSYNC — "Bye Bye Bye" ⇒ "POP"
One Direction — "What Makes You Beautiful" ⇒ "Best Song Ever"
○ To get the dance moves right, they called in a ringer — choreographer Kristin Denehy from The Sing-Off competition show and live tours, who they'd also worked with on their "Cheerleader" video several years before.
○ The group of gossipers during "Walk Like a Man" is all of VoicePlay's spouses at the time — Nick Perez, Kathy Castellucci, Cyndi Stein, and Ashley Jacobson.
○ The sandwich delivery guy in "Thank You" is the fellas' longtime friend and collaborator Rek Dunn. Given that Boyz II Men are proud Philadelphians, he's probably handing over a cheesesteak.
○ Eli sings some of the Korean lyrics in the closing BTS section. Given that he speaks Japanese, he was probably the most likely of the guys to get the pronunciation right. (And judging by the YouTube comments from BTS fans, he did a good job.)
○ When Geoff was rehearsing the choreography at home, he got some personal coaching from Kathy and little William.
○ The guys also had group dance rehearsals at a local studio.
extracted from Geoff's Instagram farewell post for J.None
○ Things got a little out of hand while they were filming the bubble wrap section of the "Pop" montage.
instagram
○ They got their act together for the transition to the next song, though.
instagram
○ The long day of filming and dancing aggravated Earl's old foot injury, so he spent the next day wearing a brace to help it recover.
Tumblr media
○ The streaming audio version is separated into 4 tracks with 3 or 4 songs each, primarily due to licensing restrictions.
○ The 4:2:Five boys had opened for 98 Degrees at Sea World all the way back in September 2001, just a few months after they'd released their first professional EP. When VoicePlay appeared on the fourth season of The Sing-Off in 2013, working with Nick Lachey again was a little bit of a reunion.

For @kijilinn since you got me started on watching new (to me!) Jason Isaacs content.
Since watching Sweetwater (2013) and Look Away (2018) over a couple of days, I've been reflecting on how Jason Isaacs' villains have changed over the years. While he certainly has played a variety of characters, and not all of them villains. Captain Hook from Peter Pan (2003) and Colonel Tavington from The Patriot (2000) have more in common with each other than with Dan from Look Away, Prophet Josiah from Sweetwater, and Dr. Volmer from A Cure for Wellness (2017), who likewise share several traits in common.
Hook and Tavington are, on the surface, a pair of campy, sword-wielding child killers, but if we look deeper, they are each singularly obsessed with one man (or boy) who has things they lack, and if we look deeper yet, they are both queer men whose peripheral relationship to society at large has left them anxious and resentful. With the last of these in mind, I'm tempted to throw Michael Ryan of Dangerous Lady (1995) into the mix even though he is not a villain. Of these three, Ryan is the one is most clearly attracted to men and hurt by them, though that is also true of Hook and Tavington to different degrees. Ryan was molested as a teenager by his mafia mentor, Tavington's father squandered the fortune he was to inherit, and Hook lost his hand in a fight with Peter Pan, all of which have redefined their connections to masculinity and to other men. They are all surrounded by men and unable to trust any of them. They all desire connection with and recognition from other men, particularly recognition as men. What allows for Hook's temporary triumph over Pan is that he has experienced adulthood and knows something of its pleasures as well as its pain, both things Pan will never know. Tavington could have ended Martin easily had he not insisted on making Martin acknowledge that he could. Ryan, having killed two of his lovers deliberately, is unwittingly killed by the man who infects him with AIDS. Ryan is definitely the outlier here as he is written to be sympathetic, despite his numerous crimes, while Hook and Tavington are fleshed out primarily through Isaacs' performance. He manages to make even flatly written characters feel human and even sympathetic.
As Hook, Tavington, and Ryan are all primarily interested in males, so their violence is primarily directed against them. Thus their relationships with men are very fraught, which is not the case in their relationships with women. In Ryan's case, the only consistently loving and somewhat healthy relationship he has is with his sister, the titular "dangerous lady" herself. Meanwhile, Hook and Tavington are completely indifferent to women (and girls) except where they can be used to manipulate the man/boy who is their true objects of desire. Intriguingly, Isaacs' straight villains also see women primarily as objects to manipulate for their own ends, even as a couple also believe they love women.
Dr. Volmer, Dr. Dan, and Prophet Josiah: oh, what can I say about these three? The first and most obvious commonality is that they are all fathers of daughters, and the second is that they all, to one degree or another, have incestuous desires for their daughters. The only one who attempts to act on that desire is Volmer, but Josiah's comment that Sarah "could teach [his daughter] how to fuck" hints that he might be interested in benefitting from that knowledge when she gets a little older. Dr. Dan--who, to his credit, is the only one of these three who is not a rapist--goes on "bonding dates" with his daughter maria and announces that he is giving her plastic surgery, of his choice, for her eighteenth birthday. He views women more as his artistic medium than as people. He left one of his twin daughters in the snow to die from exposure when she was born deformed, an act that haunts both the surviving girl and her mother. Like Volmer, Dan believes he loves his daughter, but what actually manifests in both cases is a selfish desire for control over women's bodies, medical and otherwise. At least Josiah is honest in his misogyny. When one of his men describes Sarah as a "female whore," he asks, "is there any other kind?" While I first interpreted this as implying that there are no sex workers who are not women--which has never been true, but that's a different point-- it could also imply that there are no women who are not sex workers. The second definitely fits Josiah's view of women generally. All of his converts are men except for his wives, and he has promised them wives of their own. That the women might not agree to being wives does not appear to have crossed his mind. Josiah is a collector of beautiful things: china, mahogany tables, and women, and, like the others, he sees little difference between them.
I wonder if it's a coincidence that Isaacs played the first three characters near the start of his screen career and the second group of three after he became a father himself. His first daughter with partner Emma Hewitt was born not long before filming on Peter Pan started; by the time he starred in Look Away, he had two daughters just a few years younger than his fictional one in that film. By then he was well established as a screen actor, and likely had greater ability to turn down roles that did not appeal to him. It's also possible that the new worldview parenthood brings about led him to rethink who the real villains in our society are. Even the most fantastical of these three, Dr. Volmer, exudes the kind of cold, cruel, selfish misogyny with which so many girls and women have to contend in their medical treatment even today. And it is by no means rare for a girl's first experience of misogyny to come from her own father.
I want to end this depressing meta by acknowledging that the first father Isaacs played after becoming one in real life is also, from my limited knowledge, the best. George Darling tries to suppress his natural gentleness to become the kind of stern, decisive, powerful Victorian father his sister urges him to become for his children's sake, but, fortunately, he fails. The best thing by far about this version of Peter Pan is its assertion that a father who can connect emotionally with daughters and sons alike is far better than one that cannot.

Fat Actor Googy Gress. (1 of 2)
Googy Gress has 80 credits according to IMDb. Some of these are voice credits.
PHOTOS
Googy Gress, circa 2000
His first film was The First Turn On!! in 1983, an independent film in which he was featured and was naked for a time. He was one of the main characters in this film.
- 11. His next film where his name is included in the Beginning Credits is the 1986 TV Movie Babes in Toyland with Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves. I am not sure if he was padded in the belly for this or not. Other films in this time period suggest he weighed less. Photo 7 looks like he caught Keanu checking out his butt. A lot of butt pictures after that. I don't think that was padded.
12. - 13. Promised Land in 1987 with Kiefer Sutherland and Meg Ryan was next.
14. - 15. Vibes in 1988 with Cyndi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum. His name was included on the poster for the movie in which I call 2nd tier. 1st tier is the Star or Stars. Their names are either over the title or in a larger font, often both. 2nd tier comes next, sometimes followed by a 3rd tier.
16. The next photo I have is from Apollo 13. He was also in Wayne's World 2 (tiny role) and The American President during this time.
17. In 1996 he appeared, for the first time in episodic TV, in an episode of Frasier (3;14) where former fiancee Diane Chambers visits him and presents a play she has written which is very familiar to Frasier. Googy plays Ned in the play, who is essentially Norm.
17. In 1997 he appeared in ER (4;1) where he projectile vomits on Dr. Noah Wyle.
18. Later in 1997, he appeared on The Practice (2;13), as a complainant asking if he has a case against his female dentist who he says felt him up as he was going under sedation.
19. In 1998 he was in Armageddon as a NASA Tech.
20, In 1999 he was in Blue Streak with Martin Lawrence as a Desk Sergeant who could be bribed with pizza. Googy was also a regular character on TV series G vs E (no photo) in this year. He appeared in all 22 episodes.
21. Later in 1999 he played The Overlooker, an alien, along with other fat actor Jay Leggett in Star Trek: Voyager, both were heavily made up and unrecognizable in rubber masks.
22. In 2000, he played a small part in Me, Myself and Irene with Jim Carrey.
23. - 26. My favorite photos of the group. In 2001, he appeared in an episode of Dharma & Greg (4;13) with fellow chub Jim O'Heir. I hope there was an afterparty when the show rapped. Or maybe it was private.
27. 28. Final photos, 2002, NYPD Blue (10;5) he plays a small role as Requisition Manager(?) for the precinct.

canon starter call - open to anyone !
i have a strong urge to write some canon muses, so if you would be interested in writing against any of the canon muses listed under the READ MORE below, please comment/IM me and i can send a starter your way or reply to one of your starters.
i do not require you to know anything about my muse's canon, but i'm more than happy to tell you about it if you ask. i'd be happy to write canon muses against your ocs! also, mixing fandoms is 100% ok with me unless your canon muse is problematic and makes me uncomfy. my canon muses do not have all their memories or relationships from their life unless we plot it, but they will have the same general personality/ambitions.
if you are willing to write against my canon muses but don't care which, just like this post, and i'll take a look at your open starters and/or send you a closed starter at random with a muse i think fits the vibe.
*please don't agree to write against my canon muses if you're one of those picky weirdos that will be up in arms if i don't write a cannon muse exactly how you would.
