Dorcas meadowes thoughts I beg

slytherin but she's very much an outcast there and doesn't really have any friends her first few years until pandora

she's soooo competitive. is kinda the one who starts the rivarly with marlene

her best subjects are dada, charms, and duelling. which isn't a subject but she's one of the best at it so i wanted to mention it

she doesn't tend to get on with most people

she's very close to her dad but isn't really in contact with her mum (she was raised by her dad as her parents were divorced and her mum only really visited/called for special occasions)

wait, i've been reading some of your slytherin fics and saw you mention dorcas coming from foster care. is that canon, generally accepted fanon or something you made up? as a foster care kid, i love it so much :,-)

it's not canon, but i will be honest with you – i don't remember if this is something i made up or something i've read in a fic once. nonetheless, it is now canon to me. i've been in the fandom for a literal decade, so a lot of it is hazy unfortunately, but i do remember this hc very clearly, regardless of origin, because it slaps.

dorcas was born into a very conservative and christian muggle household – yes, dorcas is undercover muggleborn in this one – the type with loads of siblings where any form of talk of magic is considered satanic and demonic. as an extraordinarily powerful witch, she began to show signs of magic really early on and that freaked her parents out. almost day-of, they dropped her off at muggle foster care. or perhaps she was left on the street and a kind stranger took her to fostercare?

she was passed through several institutions, being moved around as she never got settled anywhere. her magic was rather uncontrollable and the other kids would call her "freak" and either isolate or mistreat her. i think in a case of particular abuse, she ended up really hurting someone in a flare of unintentional magic – a flare the ministry finally picked up on. she was 7 years old when they came to get her and entered her into wizarding fostercare, which was slightly better but not really. she was still different, having grown up in the muggle world, especially as i think she was in heavy denial for a while. at the time, when you were entered into wizarding fostercare it was standard practice to put half-blood as the automatic blood status, to shield the kids. dorcas couldn't remember why she was given away by her biological family and thus had no way of knowing she was muggleborn either, apart from some suggestive nightmares. she purposefully chose not to push it and find answers because it was safer this way.

eventually, when she started hogwarts she was able to get friends that became her found family, first in the skittles and then in the valkyries and marauders. i think she became emancipated really young, think age 14 and moved to a shitty flat of her own with a hardship fund from the ministry. she had always been exceptionally strong, both magically and mentally, so she made it work. she moved in with either marlene or pandora later, depending on your ship and storyline<3

one of my favourite hcs is dorlily wtih both of them as orgnizers and activists. i want to see them as americans in '70s with dorcas in black panther party and lily in students for a democratic society (fuck, maybe even in weatherman organization).

i want them to meet at a protest. i want dorcas to call out lily on her white privilege and i want lily fascinated with malcolcm x.

i want them to run mutual aid programs and listen to speeches of fred hampton and declare war on the government

regulus back with selective mutism who learns to be comfortably talking with sirius as a child. when he goes to hogwarts and he isn't talking to him anymore, he goes quite. over the years, he gets comfortable enough to talk to the skittles.

imagine sirius talking to regulus again, only to find that he is no longer someone he feels safe and comfortable enough with to talk to. imagine sirius when he sees james being a person he can talk to.

random marauders era headcanons part i forgot

james laughs at his own jokes before he can tell and while he tells them to someone else. hysterical wheezing laughter

mary has a pack of cherry and a pack of strawberry bubblegum on her wherever she goes. marlene has mint drops

remus only takes 30-minute long baths, and he never takes showers; just baths, always baths

dorcas squeals when she's excited

marlene's fringe is always too long, and whenever she cuts it, it's too short, and the wait for it to grow back into in length drives her up the wall

lily used to have a really large, greybunny named dust, and it used to be her best friend when she was five

peter always has hair ties with him and he ties his hair up with it in silly little things which should resemble ponytails

sirius' favorite eggs are eggs benedict, he could have them every day for breakfast

james wears slightly under knee high socks and only slightly knee high socks during the summer. if he has to wear socks, you can bet those are what he's wearing (he also wears socks and sandals and thinks it's the peak of fashion)

lily always puts her hair up before doing homework. it helps her focus better because she's not actively pushing her hair out of her face anymore

marlene's favorite hogwarts professor (besides mcgonagall) is flitwick, and that is why she's focusing and studying for his class (the only class actually cares about)

remus is shit at flirting (i am a firm believer of remus 'awkward' lupin)

mary makes puppy eyes to get what she wants (it actually works, somehow (especially on lily, and mostly on lily, actually))

peter has really warm and soft hands, and people always want to hold his hand for this reason. he also does that soothing thumb rubbing thing

sirius knows how to play the harp, and played it when he was younger, but he never actually used that skill later in life

the sorting hat actually considered putting dorcas in ravenclaw, but ultimately decided on slytherin because of her cunningness

dorcas' relationship with every friend she's had:

pandora- best friends. each other's closest person before marlene/xenophilius came along. understand each other on a deep level and tell each other everything. hang out a lot outside school, which is also a little hard with my hc of pandora being from republic of ireland and dorcas from northern ireland (but i assume there would be a floo system or something in place). dorcas was luna's godparent (well, for about 5 months)

regulus- best friends (neither would ever admit that to each other). they mostly sit in silence whilst doing their own thing. the introverts ever. very different people with very different backgrounds and experiences and social views but they bond over hating talking to people and quidditch and books and studying hard

evan- they bond over being two of the only slytherins that smoke weed and also trying to talk to regulus and getting shut down. they're more friend by association than anything (even being regulus' roommate and dorcas becoming friends with regulus). evan is the least tight with his money, so dorcas gets free stuff from him a lot

barty- also become friends by association (but more through pandora). they fall out every other week then barty tells his mum and his mum makes him apologise to cas everytime. colours their hair together (although barty dyes his back before the holidays). both their love languages are mocking/being mean to their crush

lily- bond over school work (the other slytherins in dorcas' year don't like her and lily and remus are the only gryffindors willing to work with her in class). study together a lot. bond over their rivals to lovers relationships and hate for the english (scottish lily <3). they also snog sometimes for fun. so so so competitive. also both football fans which they bond over even though they support different teams

mary- become friends only once dorcas and marlene start dating (but dorcas did know mary by going to mary to get their hair done- hc that mary would do cut/style other student's hair for money). mary gives them 'the talk' and then they get drunk and bitch about marlene to each other. very different people with very different hobbies but they still manage to connect.
