I was approached by @ibrahim-family to post this comic he sent me for him. it’s not done by me, but by an artist that wants to be anonymous and gave him permission to post it.
Help Ibrahim’s family escape the Gaza war
€2,315 out of €20,000 goal
Ibrahim is only fifteen years old and trying to survive a genocide. I will reiterate what i’ve said on other fundraiser posts:
A child should never have to beg for help for his family online. He should be in school. He should be playing video games or hanging out with his friends. This is one of the many things this genocide has taken from him and many other children his age. A childhood. Ibrahim says his dreams are to seek asylum abroad with his family and developing his scientific and technical skills.
Please help Ibrahim’s family survive and give him a chance to go to school and have the future he dreams of 🙏🏼 every child deserves a chance, he has his whole life in front of him, don’t let that be taken from him.
Like every family in Gaza, they lack basic necessities like food and water, your donations can help them stay alive in this horrible situation.
Their goal is only 20,000 euro, this is very achievable. with 2,315 euro they are nearly a fourth of the way! they need 17,685 to reach their goal, and 7,685 to reach 50%
if only 10 people donate 25 euro each every day, they will be halfway to their goal in a month. I think we can do even better than that. your donation matters!
this fundraiser has been vetted by @gazavetters, as number 25 on their spreadsheet

What Each Townie Adds to the Community Center After Complete, Pt. 1
Farmer - a farm-to-table dinner once a month and everyone brings a side dish to share
Caroline - expands her fitness class and moves it to the Center (offers 3-4x's a week)
Evelyn - a baking class once a month (mostly cookies, some cakes too. Haley sometimes helps).
Gus - cooking class once a week (and he would be such a good teacher with a gentle, encouraging voice) AND a near daily breakfast for seniors and vets (because he's that kind of guy)
Sebastian - basic computer classes because these townsfolk need to get outta the dark ages. Jk... but seriously, he would open a computer lab. People could come work on resumes, kids could play games after school and on weekends (Sam included), and folks could pay bills online.
Penny would create a kids club for after school on Wednesdays. Vincent, Jas, and Leo all come for storytime, homework help, snacks, and playtime. Jas would donate some of her old dolls and toys. Vincent would create a bug display. Leo would fix up a treehouse out front with help from Robin.
Robin would offer woodworking classes, and she would co-lead an environmental science club with Demetrius (for the social and moral support).
Willy and Elliott would arrange beach clean-up days, and use the Center to create a place for recycling gathering. (And compost - Leah and the Farmer would add).
Gunther would partner with the Adventurer's Guild to host a series of guest lectures on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Archeologists, botanists, monster hunters, travelers, other experts.
Shane would open an AA chapter and suicide prevention support group (with some encouragement from Harvey). Bad coffee. Stale donuts. Everyone feels welcome though.
Band practice would move out of Sam's bedroom and into the Center. He would also organize an open mic night (Abigail would do most of the work, but his enthusiasm counts). He would support and cheer for everyone equally (no matter how off-key).
Elliott would do poetry readings. Once he was published, he would host his book reveal party at the Center. Over wine for the 21+.
Leah would host art classes - sculpting, painting, etc. She would also organize a tri-athlon with Alex.
Alex would fix up the backyard for a kids gridball team. He would have a sports mentorship program (and kids from surrounding towns would attend). Work hard. Play hard. And learn life skills. With a lot of help from other townies.
Haley would create a dark room for anyone wanting to develop their own photos. And she would gladly have many of her own photos on display.
I feel like George would host movie nights with help from Alex, Sebastian and Maru. Alex would hang the projector, Seb would set up the equipment, and Maru would decorate with lights in the yard for movies under the stars in summertime. And bring strawberries to share, of course. Old timey movies. Black and whites.
Harvey (and Maru) would host health clinics, offering free wellness checkups. Gus would provide healthy lunches. They would team up with Caroline for a fitness class. Emily would call her Swami friend for a yoga and meditation demonstration.
Emily would definitely start a sewing circle. Jodi would join. Maybe Marnie. And Caroline would enjoy cross-stitch.
Em would also do additional projects. The younger ladies like Abigail, Sophia, and Scarlett would definitely be into cosplay and costuming together. Abs would drag Sebastian in every once in awhile and Sam would tag along, just cuz. Seb would rock Puck from A Midsummer's Night Dream. And Elliott would make a fantastic Romeo. Haley would definitely be Juliet.

Last year I wrote a story about a streamer who shrinks based on chat donations. I meant it as a one shot, but guys…. GUYSSSSS.
I think about this story ‘s universe a lot. I have lore notes just collecting dust and I need to share it or I might go absolutely mad XD Made these visuals charts to get the basics across but if you’re interested in my lore and semantic ramblings, feel free to read below the cut.
Consider this my unofficial pitch bible for Down Played.
General premise: Monica Diaz is Twitch streamer with steadily growing fan base. Her tag is MiniMushroom and her aesthetic is cottage core. She loves all things magical and tiny, especially toadstool mushrooms, that’s the image most associated with her “brand.” She’s approached by a mysterious benefactor who has developed technology specifically for Monica to test and utilize for her streams. It’s called Byte-Syzed Tech and it connects to a user’s twitch stream and based on the user’s preferences, gives the audience the ability to change the user’s height. The one shot I wrote takes place during Monica’s first live use of Byte-Syzed tech on stream. If I were to develop this into a full story I’d probably go back a bit and start around when Monica is first approached about using Byte-Syzed tech then continue to follow Monica adjusting to using Byte-Syzed more often. How she deals with the size change on camera, off camera, how her social and personal life are affected, all that good stuff. I think it would like a slice of life feel good kinda story.
Characters:
- Monica - Main character and primary user of Byte-Syzed tech. Surprisingly enough, she’s actually a law school grad who probably would have put her degree to use if she didn’t accidentally gain a massive following on twitch. Funny how life works out. She stands at 6’4 and always was fascinated with the idea of being small (Basically, she’s a g/t nerd who doesn’t know what g/t is) so being gifted Byte-Syzed and being able to use it on stream is kinda a dream come true.
- Kim - Monica’s girlfriend, roommate, and stream moderator. Kim and Monica were high school sweethearts but drifted apart in college due to personal matters in Kim’s life including having to drop out of college. Kim and Monica rekindled their relationship a few years later and Kim cites Monica and her encouragement as a big reason why she’s been able to get her life back together. She’s currently back in college working on getting her degree in Mathematics.
- The Twitch Team- Moni hosts solo streams but also very often collabs with three of her online friends. Ariel (@Lifeisthebubbles), a Vtuber who is the only one Moni has met in person. Corey (@McDonuts) an NB asmrist on youtube who started streaming games for fun. And Phin (@UrguyPhin) Corey's bf and the competitive gamer of the four. All three of them were streaming with Monica when she first used Byte-Syzed and have since gotten used to pausing their games so an ever shrinking Monica can adjust her set up.
- The Benefactors- Keeping their (Plural, there are two of them) exact identity to myself for the time being, but basically they’re mad scientists with the best intentions. Their antics have garnered attention across the internet as they have created and gifted inventions to up and coming online creators that seem to defy all laws of physics. Anti Gravity chambers, a literal money tree, a mask the morphs the wearer’s face, and now the Byte-Syzed size changing tech. Despite their inventions going viral, their identities have remained hidden. So what is their deal? They’re just big fans of these creators and for lack of drawing skills have gifted them weird inventions instead. Nerds… Due to the nature of Byte-Syzed and the possible effects it can have on the human body, Monica and Kim remain in close contact with them.
How Byte-Syzed Works in Universe: This I wrote tons of notes about when I first thought of the idea. Byte-Syzed can be divided into three key components; The program, the arm band monitor, and the sync suit.
The Program is installed on the user’s computer and connects directly to the arm band monitor and sync suit. The program has user friendly set up that allows the user to input the direction of height change (Shrink or Grow), The minimum or maximum height change, How height change occurs (By views, chat commands, donations, etc.), and rate of height change (How much height is gained or lost with each instance of viewer interaction.) EX: If height is based on donations, the user can set it up so they lose 1 inch for every 10 dollars donated. They can set the minimum height to 6 inches, so once they’ve received enough donations that they have shrunk down to 6 inches, Byte-Syzed will hold at that height. More donations may come in after, but the height will remain at 6 inches for the duration of the stream.)
The Arm Band Monitor, is the device the physically changes the user’s height after connecting to the Byte-Syzed Program. It also monitors and display’s the user’s current height and vitals. All data collected from the arm band will then be saved and can be referenced later if the band is connected to the computer. The arm band must be kept on at all times during active use and active reset of Byte-Syzed. Active use is the time in which Byte-Syzed is being used in a stream and the user’s height is actively changing. Active reset refers to time after the stream has ended and the user is either set at their new current height or in the process of returning to their normal height. After a stream has ended the user will remain at their changed height until they press the reset button on the monitor. Once the reset button is active, the user will return to their normal height at 1.5 times the amount of time it took to change to their current changed height. EX: A user has finished a stream that was 4 hours. They hit the reset button which will return them to normal over the course of 6 hours. (4x1.5=6) This only applies for time Byte-Syzed was in use, not how long a size change occurred. EX: If the user’s stream was 4 hours, but they reached their minimum height in 3 hours, the reset function will account for the 4 hours the stream lasted. This is a safety procedure to reduce stress on the user’s body. Note: If the reset button is not pressed, the user will remain at their changed height for a period of 12 hours. After 12 hours, the reset function will kick in automatically.
The Synchronized Suit or Sync Suit is directly connected to the Byte-Syzed program and will grow and shrink with the user at the same rate as the user. Normal clothing can be worn above it but they will not change size with the user, only the sync suit. The sync suit Monica received came with the suit, shoes, and a headset with a built in microphone to keep audio input even over the course of her size changing. More sync suits are in the process of being designed and produced, with the goal of making sync suits that resemble everyday clothing like t shirts or skirts.
Fun Story Ideas:
- Origin story. How Monica met the benefactors and was gifted Byte-Syzed, her and Kim’s gripes about using it, actually going through with it and the pros and cons she noticed, the end of her first size changing stream and dealing with being tiny in her own room and her girlfriend’s hands. Etc etc
- Monica finished a late night stream using byte Syzed and forgets to press reset when she goes to sleep so instead of growing back over the course of the night she wakes up at her tiny size. After realizing her mistake she begins the growth process but now has to do it while attempting to do her regular day time activities.
- Monica is approached by a doll company to collaborate on a new doll based on her, only issue, their studio is several hours away and they want her to model at both her full height and at the height of the dolls. After some consideration Monica and Kim decide to take a road trip to the studio and use Byte Syzed at the studio under Kim’s careful supervision. What could go wrong?
- Months have passed and Kim and Monica have grown well adjusted to the major size difference between them after Monica finishes a byte syze stream, however curiosity has gotten the best of her and Kim wonders what it would be like to be the tiny one for a change.
If you have read this far, you have my eternal gratitude. Thanks for reading this far, I really hope you liked it XD Maybe if time and motivation allows I can flesh the story out.
#didn’t get into it in the main text but#With Monica I really wanted to have a plus size character#My friend downsizedclab made a post about it a loooooong time ago and it really stuck with me#we totally deserve to have more body diversity in g/t stories#any ways#I love Moni so much#she’s been living in my head rent free for a while#and the semantics of how this tech works#I’ve had that written out before I wrote the initial one shot#in fact the original plan for the one shot included seeing Monica and Kim actually input the info into the program#but it was just basically 3 pages of characters doing math and filling out a form#I’m pretty sure y’all don’t want to read that#so I just jumped to fun size changing stuff#but I did write Monica’s shrinking to keep in line with the math I laid out for her#it’s all consistent#g/t#giant/tiny#gt#giant tiny#g/t fluff#g/t art#mighty draws#Down Played#Monica#Kim#g/t artist#gt artist#g/t writing#gt writing#mighty writes

hello! I am a 23 year old self-employed, disabled, transmasc creative living in the us faced with rent and bills I can't pay due to “unemployment” and refusal of disability payments by state and federal government. i need to raise money and get a job asap because I don't have enough to pay to survive.
rest of description and health update below the cut ↓
I need to raise/ make $250 USD before the end of January, and I'm hoping at least half of that can come from donations, as with recent developments, I'm in a near complete shutdown. it's hard to do anything because my brain is making my body go into survival mode, and I'm constantly bombarded with body pain and headaches and nausea. I'm scared for my friends. family, and myself, and want to give up
I make art and write poetry full time, but marketing with no way to pay for advertising online doesn't get me very far, so please share this if you can. I have some examples of my work available and more if you shoot me a message, but my creative skills are mainly in freewritten poetry, acrylic painting, mix media collage/ collage poetry, anthro character design and artwork, graphic design/ logo work, and minimal web design (not the coding side, but like wix and such). I'm also experienced in tech writing, blog/ article writing, customer service, sales, and more.
I am offering lowered rates on all custom work for a limited time, with traditional media pay rates dropping from $70/hr to $45/hr and digital media from sliding scale $30-50/hr to a flat $25/hr. I'll run discounts on any finished pieces that spark interest. I don't have an hourly rate for poetry, I'd do something like $5/15 lines or send a document with 5 premade poems for $5
if you have any leads for remote work, or you yourself could use some load lightened that you could pay me to do, please reach out. my state's minimum wage is $15/hr, but depending on the work, I'd be hoping to work closer to $20/hr based on experience and education. I really only need to make $150 a week to survive, so a part time gig or two would help me at least afford food, bills, meds, and doctors
thank you for sharing and supporting me at this time. donation links available on request, message here or DM floraternum on discord for more information

physical & mental health cw!!↓
as far as my health goes, I have a bug right now, my tummy is uncooperative, my head hurts all the time, my back and neck and hands hurt all the time. this on top of the aches I'm always dealing with, it's rough. and between my anxiety about the anti trans stuff going in in the us and tension and problems on this planet, the OCD, autism, ADHD, bipolar, etc are all aligning to make the most unbearable and just LOUD depression of my recent memory. brain is just a lot to deal with and I don't know how I'm supposed to support myself through much more than surviving rn.

My Role as an Environmental Interpreter - Blog 2
The role of environmental interpretation comes with many responsibilities. They play a vital role in connecting people with the natural world by translating science into engaging and memorable experiences. Environmental interpreters inspire curiosity by looking beyond the facts. They aid in fostering an emotional connection to nature through storytelling and teaching communities about the beauty of nature beyond surface-level observation. After researching different careers in environmental interpretation, an ideal role for me would be working as an environmental educator or, more specifically, a nature centre educator. I made this decision for a few reasons, but my inspiration primarily comes from the opportunity a nature centre educator has to connect with and teach kids. The role of nature centre educator perfectly blends the beauty of being a teacher in a more traditional sense while being given the opportunity to speak about the wonders of the environment. My mother was a nursery school teacher for a long time and now tutors young kids, so my interest in teaching children comes from her. I believe that having an opportunity to inspire and educate the next generation is a great privilege, but it is also a challenging job that tests a person’s professional character and dedication.
What might it entail? Where might it be?
Firstly, as an environmental interpreter, having general knowledge about nature and different ecosystems is essential. That said, location is a highly relevant factor in educating the public about the environment around them. This summer, I took a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and visited a turtle conservation centre. It was a fantastic experience, and I observed these beautiful animals and learned a lot about aquatic animal conservation. An ideal location for me to work in a nature centre as an educator would be somewhere in a more tropical climate, such as Florida. A nature centre educator is a job that requires significant versatility. At the surface, they are responsible for conservation education, curriculum integration, and public engagement by leading interactive experiences such as guided tours, wildlife demonstrations, and other relevant activities. On top of the efforts typically observed by the public, the primary role of a nature centre educator is to garner interest. Increasing public engagement to encourage people to come is necessary for the job. Most conservation centres are not-for-profit businesses that thrive on donations to function successfully. With the rise of social media, educators have an amazing opportunity to increase community outreach. Posting their animals online, making educational videos, developing formal advertising, and incorporating the curriculum into online content can effectively boost interest. Additionally, resource management is a key responsibility for educators in engagement efforts. Within the centre, educational materials, brochures, signage, and interactive displays are great tools for making a consumer’s experience memorable. Educators are responsible for curating new ideas for information pieces, so having the creativity and knowledge to create engagement tools is necessary.
What skills might you need?
As the textbook mentions, provocation is a key skill for educators that goes beyond fact-based information. It is a strategy to spark curiosity, challenge common assumptions, and encourage critical thinking. For nature centre educators, using provocation as a strategy for engagement is vital. Asking thought-provoking and open-ended questions encourages discussion, which allows visitors to challenge their understanding of nature. Presenting surprising facts gives visitors some information to relay to others, and using visual provocation through impactful imagery will help cater to different learning strategies. For example, seeing a side-by-side exhibit of a polluted river and a clean, restored river habitat is far more inspiring than simply seeing a seemingly untouched river. Provocation closely ties into two more skills that encompass the necessary attributes of an educator. Storytelling and effective communication are complementary skills that help round out the requirements of a talented educator.
Thank you for reading my post, I hope you enjoyed!

Hello! I wanted to ask a potentially hardish question. How do you feel about non-Romani engaging with Tarot, doing paid reads, and such? Do you think it's okay for everyone to partake in it? Would you at least want people to be more informed of its origins?
My general attitude, when it comes to anything related to magic, fortunetelling, etc, is that we should be focusing more on cultural restitution and historical authenticity than trying to make a list of who can do what. When it comes to tarot, there's a lot to learn, and a lot to unpack in both of those areas. The short answer is that I don't believe that tarot is, or should be, a closed practice. There is, however, is a deep legacy of racism in the evolution of tarot as a fixture of mainstream culture, and the fortunetelling industry is rife with Romani exploitation. I believe that understanding this, and integrating it into your actions and conduct, is key to developing an ethically and spiritually holistic practice. And I think that applies to all forms of magic and spirituality-- racism and colonialism are very common in magical spaces where historical understanding is not encouraged.
If this is something you'd like to learn more about, I would highly encourage you to pre-order Secrets of Romani Fortuntelling, which is an upcoming book written by my friend Jezmina von Thiele and their Romanistan cohost, Paulina Stevens. Preorders make a huge difference for small publishers and new authors. This book is an authentic new look at fortunetelling practices in Romani culture and I, personally, think everybody who reads tarot needs to buy a copy.
If you'd like to receive a reading from a Romani practictioner, I am running a donation drive for Palestinian families and offering online tarot readings with personalized writeups and graphics as rewards.
My understanding is that tarot, and cartomancy in general, are closely tied to Romani culture and history because they were trades that Romani families developed and practiced as a form of survival work*. The same is true for several other types of fortunetelling and folk magic practices. There is an element of cultural preservation and ancestral custom in a lot of these skills, but ultimately, this is something that was meant to be shared with non-Roma, so it's not a closed practice, in that regard. And it's worth mentioning, of course, that many of these skills and devices were adapted from existing aspects of Western culture. The original tarot deck was, after all, just a set of European playing cards.
Over the centuries, tarot has really taken on a life of its own outside of Romani society, as both a popular practice and object of cultural fascination. There are other cultures who practice divination and fortunetelling for very similar reasons, and because tarot is so universally known, it's become a tool that is shared by many, and I think it informs the way folks approach cartomancy even when they're using other devices. And I think that's really beautiful! Unfortunately, there is also a more painful part of this history that also needs to be acknowledged.
Most modern tarot decks, and much of the basis for how we read them, are the products of 19th & 20th century occult and esoteric movements in the West, which often held an Orientalist fixation on Romani, Jewish, Middle Eastern and East Asian cultures. When you look at the works of Levi, Crowley, Waite, and so forth, you'll find a lot of fabricated histories and colonial fantasies about these cultures, and that informed the symbology with which they designed the formative modern decks we know today as the Thoth and Waite-Smith tarot. In my opinion, Jewish and Romani peoples were the most heavily exploited by this movement. It just goes to show how deeply our histories a diasporic people are connected.
Here in America, many states have legislation intended to police or even outlaw the fortunetelling trade, and you will often find that these laws are based in anti-Romani racism. Furthermore police are known to profile Romani citizens and families as scammers, and a lot of the language used to describe these "scams" in both police documents and the media employs racist language and stereotypes. Despite this, non-Roma, particularly white people, are often able to turn fortunetelling into a lucrative business by using their privilege to safely navigate the legal system's impositions-- and many of these white people love nothing more than to dress up in an approximation of Romani costume in order to give themselves an exotic, mystical air-- just like Levi and Crowley before them.
So, it's my opinion that the modern fortunetelling industry and the last several generations of tarot knowledge were built, both directly and indirectly on Romani oppression. People need to understand this history, and their place in it, in order to understand how they, personally, have arrived at their own relationship with tarot. Once you do understand that, you can begin to incorporate anti-racist intention and action into your practice. If you want suggestions, providing historical acknowledgement and Romani resources to your clients is a great place to start. Being an ally and being in community with us in our fight for human rights is even better. If you own a business or a shop, you can divest yourself from problematic suppliers, or learn how to identify racist books and decks, and stop selling them. Make sure you're not exploiting or perpetuating Romani stereotypes and call other people out on it, too. And if it's possible, really reevaluate the way you have arrived at your understanding of the cards, and how you communicate with them. Look past information that has been sold to you and seek personal authenticity. You'll be a better reader for it.
*What I am describing here is not a universal experience. Some people and some families practice these trades, not all. Romani people are not a monolith, and this is not a defining aspect or Romani culture.

10 Non-Material Christmas Gifts That Will Leave a Lasting Impression
The holiday season is a time for giving, but what if you could offer something that isn’t a material possession yet still holds immense value? Non-material Christmas gifts are a thoughtful way to show your love, appreciation, and kindness, and they can often have a more lasting impact than physical items.
From creating memorable experiences to giving back to the community, these gifts are meaningful, memorable, and often more sustainable than traditional presents. In this blog, we will explore 10 non-material Christmas gifts that will leave a lasting impression.
Experience-Based Gifts: Memories That Last
One of the best ways to give a gift that will be remembered is by creating an experience. Memories tend to last far longer than material possessions, and experiences offer opportunities to bond with loved ones. Here are some great experience-based ideas:
Concerts or Event Tickets: A shared experience such as attending a concert, sports game, or theatre show is a gift that creates lasting memories.
Cooking or Art Classes: Giving the gift of a new skill through a fun, hands-on class can be an enriching experience. It’s something you can enjoy together and will be remembered long after the event.
Weekend Getaway: A short trip to a nearby destination offers a break from everyday life and creates an unforgettable experience.
Charity Xmas Gifts: Giving Back to Those in Need
Another powerful non-material gift is making a charitable donation in someone’s name. Charity Xmas gifts are an ideal way to give back during the holiday season. Whether it’s supporting education, healthcare, or environmental causes, donating to a charity that resonates with the recipient’s values can have a profound effect.
Instead of spending money on physical items, a donation can help those in need, and it’s a thoughtful gesture that keeps on giving. Many charities offer gift cards or certificates to let the recipient know the donation has been made in their honour, making it a personalized gift that also makes a difference.
A Heartfelt Letter or Card
Sometimes, the simplest gifts are the most meaningful. A heartfelt letter or card can express your feelings in a way that material items can’t. In your letter, reflect on your time together, acknowledge the person’s importance in your life, and express your gratitude. This gesture is timeless and can be treasured for years to come.
Offering Your Time: Quality Time Together
In today’s fast-paced world, time is often the most valuable thing you can give. Consider offering your time as a Christmas gift by doing something meaningful together. This could include:
Cooking a Meal Together: Spend time in the kitchen creating a special dinner or baking festive treats.
Volunteering Together: Giving back as a team can be a fulfilling experience, whether it’s serving at a soup kitchen or helping out at a local shelter.
Childcare or Pet Sitting: Offering your services to take care of someone’s children or pets for a day can be an invaluable gift, especially if the person needs a break or a bit of extra help.
A Personalized Playlist or Mixtape
For those who appreciate music, creating a personalized playlist or mixtape can be a thoughtful and emotional gift. You can curate songs that represent shared memories, inside jokes, or the recipient’s favorite tunes. Whether it’s a relaxing playlist for unwinding or an upbeat one to energize, this personalized gift will be enjoyed for a long time.
Virtual Classes or Workshops
Give the gift of knowledge or creativity by gifting a virtual class or workshop. This could range from photography lessons to virtual wine tasting experiences or even online fitness classes. It’s a great way to allow someone to explore their interests and develop new skills while spending quality time at home.
A Personalized Experience Journal
Create a personalized experience journal where you document shared moments throughout the year. Include photos, ticket stubs, or even simple notes about fun times you’ve shared. You can leave space for future adventures, so it becomes an ongoing project. This gift encourages reflection on your relationship and provides a way to relive happy memories.
Acts of Kindness
This gift is about spreading love and goodwill to others. Acts of kindness can include helping with household chores, running errands, or even offering a simple gesture like paying for someone’s coffee. While these acts may seem small, they carry a lot of meaning, especially when done with the intention of making someone’s day a little brighter.
Digital Gifts: Subscriptions and Ebooks
For someone who loves reading or exploring new content, gifting a subscription to an audiobook service or an online platform can be a wonderful gesture. If the person is into learning, you could offer them an educational course or membership to an online community. Digital gifts are convenient and can be accessed from anywhere, making them perfect for those with busy lifestyles.
The Gift of Wellness: Meditation or Spa Vouchers
For those in need of relaxation and self-care, giving the gift of wellness can be incredibly meaningful. This could include a voucher for a spa treatment, a virtual meditation session, or a yoga class. A gift focused on mental and physical well-being not only offers immediate relief but encourages a healthier and more mindful lifestyle.
Non-material Christmas gifts are an excellent way to show your loved ones that you care about them beyond physical possessions. From creating unforgettable experiences to giving back through charity Xmas gifts, these thoughtful gifts make a lasting impact. Whether it’s a heartfelt letter, a shared adventure, or a simple act of kindness, these gifts create memories and connections that will stay with the recipient long after the holiday season. This Christmas, consider moving away from material items and instead, focus on giving the gifts of time, experiences, and love.

School Update..!
My future self sustained career as an online teacher of the arts is near its official beginning! I aim to be an accessible, welcoming, patient and encouraging art teacher that tries to make a positive and constructive difference in everyone’s perception of the world and how to express themselves with art at any skill level.
If you’d like to get in on my public art school discord (18+ only) follow the link here! It will be an evolving work in progress that develops over these next years as I teach myself how to teach you, anyone and everyone!
Posting public edited videos summarizing any important topics i cover will be a future instalment of this school since it will demand time and money I cant afford until later.
All this said, Im still figuring out how to accept financial support for the work I do every day while dedicating myself to improving as an artist and teacher. I never want to instate paywalls or subscriptions. I would like to thank supporters without pressuring those who don’t donate. It’s tricky to balance the idea of a sustainable reward (that doesn’t add on extra work capable of burning me out) for supporters while avoiding any residual FOMO for everyone else. For now, you can generously support my work with a donation on PayPal, as i’m indefinitely working a part time job for a minimum keyholder wage and will have no other alternate source of income for the foreseeable future, debts biting at my heels.
Yet if you do find yourself with money to spare today, here are two causes that are important to me that are in need of support. Additional research and vocal support around peers and public for either cause can make just as much of a difference as a small donation. Due to the world state I feel heavy asking for money without bringing some attention to these important causes that could use your support as well:
E Sims for Gaza is in need of donations and the foundation as a whole supports worldwide communication through different humanitarian conflicts. They’re working to keep Palestinian voices heard amongst the unimaginable atrocities they’re facing daily.
Also due to the long coming but dramatic and recent shift in our governments’ interests in our internet access and privacy, Wikipedia has been keeping the largest database of human knowledge free of commercialization and accessible to all. They can make use of support no matter how small to keep that keystone of human knowledge alive and growing.
Thank you for reading, thank you for your time. I hope we can look to the future one day and smile. For now find some comfort in letting yourself make art and work to find your unique form of creative expression. to bring out what you want to see and make it tangible. and maybe let me help you along the way..!
#crowd funding#art school#this took much more time to type up i hope it gets the points i want to make across#woww i love tumblr mobile for erasing two entire paragraphs without me knowing what it would do#please god phone typing has been hurting my shoulder#ok#long post sorry#yesterdays was so rushed i didnt communicate how i wanted

Roman Pohorilyi was 22 when he started tracking Russian troop movements near Ukraine’s border. It was the fall of 2021, and he and a childhood friend, Ruslan Mykula, had been sharing news about foreign affairs to an audience of about 200 subscribers on a Telegram channel. It was just a hobby for them. Neither imagined that a year later their country would be in a state of absolute war with Russia, and that their hobby, which they called Deep State, would be tracking every aspect of it.
Although Deep State started as a news channel, it has become most famous for its open access map that charts the shifting front line of Russia’s invasion, and which has become a crucial tool for Ukrainians to keep track of the conflict that once threatened to overrun their country. On some days in late 2022, Deep State’s map received as many as 3 million views. Mykula showed WIRED a screenshot from the website’s dashboard that recorded more than 482 million views between June 2023 and June 2024.
Mykula and Pohorilyi created the map on the first day of the war, after recognizing a demand from their Telegram subscribers for frequent updates about what was happening. Pohorilyi was in the penultimate year of a law degree, and Mykula was working in marketing. But both had been learning open source intelligence skills to help verify videos of military activity that actors on all sides were publishing online.
The basic map itself, which a friend helped to design, is simple but precise. Territories occupied by Russia are shaded in red; those held by Ukraine are shaded in green. Blue marks areas that Ukraine has recently liberated. Known Russian units, airfields, and HQs are marked with small red squares; troop movements with arrows; and railways with black and white lines (Ukrainian positions are not shown). Zooming in, one can see detail down to the level of individual streets, villages, and tree lines. It looks like the board of a computer strategy game.
Over time, Deep State has added more advanced features and quirks to the map. A toolbar in the bottom-left corner offers the option to enable different layers, including weather patterns, fortifications, and gamma radiation levels in case of nuclear disaster. Users can simulate the effect of different weapons, calculating the range and potential damage of everything from self-propelled howitzers and ballistic missiles to Patriot air defense systems and nuclear explosions. A hidden Easter egg summons an animation of Baby Yoda that, when poked, uses the Force to destroy Russian units.
The map soon became too much for Mykula and Pohorilyi to manage alone; they now enlist the help of more than 100 paid employees and volunteers. Their methods have also evolved. They still use open source intelligence to verify new information, but also acquire data directly from frontline military units whom they’ve developed relationships with. In some cases, the authority of a single source whom they’ve learned to trust is enough, though Mykula admits there have been occasional errors. In other cases, when multiple sources contradict one another, they wait until definitive evidence emerges. Propaganda is rife on both sides, and Mykula insists that Deep State will take no part in it. “We want to win,” he says. “Propaganda will not win.”
Mykula and Pohorilyi do, however, oblige when Ukrainian military commanders request delays to map updates that may compromise their activities. They also receive some government funding for an alternate version of the map available only to verified members of the military. The government funding also goes toward other intelligence activities that Ruslan refuses to discuss; most of their funding comes from public donations.
Late in the first year of the war, Mykula and Pohorilyi learned that their map was helping another, unexpected group of users: Russian soldiers. The map’s designer had added a function that would display instructions to surrender if a user tried to access from a Russian IP address. Then, in October 2022, in an interview with a popular Ukrainian blogger, a Russian POW testified that he had used Deep State’s map for this exact purpose.
The success of Deep State’s map has attracted more users to their original Telegram channel, which now has more than 700,000 subscribers. It publishes its own original reports of the war, all available through a free app, which other established Ukrainian media organizations sometimes refer to. But the map remains the most popular product, used by Ukrainians at home and abroad to track the front line that, at the time of writing, creeps further toward their office in Kyiv every day.
Both Mykula and Pohorilyi approach their work with a stern dedication that belies their youth and inexperience. “We don’t want to disappoint our audience because our projects have become critical for Ukrainians,” Mykula says. “If you compare us to other maps, you will see that Ukrainians don’t go to check on them. They come to us.”

On Alledgely Intelligent Machines
All of this reminds me of like, two to three years ago when AI Dungeon 2 was this hot young thing and 'respectable' gaming news sites were posting opinion pieces about the wild unrestricted adventures they were having on it and how it would change the way they roleplayed forever, even though it was this bumbling, lawless thing that could barely find the plot to lose most of the time.
And then fast forward a year or so and we find out that the algorithm isn't magic, and that prompting it with 'the end' specifically outputs a 'thanks for reading, please donate to my patreon' message lifted from all of the thousands upon thousands of poor schumcks who had the misfortune of deciding to share their work online for other people to freely read.
All of this 'AI is progressing too rapidly and will one day very soon develop into real AGI that will change the world' malarkey is just jingling keys. I think it's called Longtermism, they want us to fret and fuss about how this will affect the lives of our great great great grandchildren commutting to Mars 200 years from now, and not about how this is affecting real people today.
"Think about how neat it would be to have an AI that can answer all of the questions left in the universe for us" Sam says, as his company hurriedly cuts ties with the underpaid Kenyan workers manually sorting and tagging the database his LLMs are based on.
"Look at how well it rhymes now, this will definitely distrupt the Poetry Industry which definitely is a thing that exists in real life I am a real scientist I know these things," his employees say, in a research paper hyping up their own product while they improve its ability to deepfake images that gradually erodes any trust we still have in our society.
All the while touting the most mediocre, average examples of just about any creative field as proof of its rapid, inevitable and perpetually explosive growth as if it was the figurative Antichrist heralding the coming of the Son of God and the Kingdom of Heaven.
I miss when we just let these things run rampant without a single care for consistent style and realism because we enjoyed witnessing what utter insanity it came up with, I miss when it was just a 'neat tool' that could maybe provide a freaky background or add trippy dogfaces to your clouds, I miss when we were wondering about what all of this weirdness said about what understanding language and having pattern recognition means when it's divorced entirely from reality instead of wondering how quickly we can refine and normalize its output well enough to mechanize all forms of artistry.
And above all else I miss not hearing about it, because honestly it still isn't that good. The slightly uncanny photos, mass art style plagiarism module and extremely resource intensive shorts are neat and all but, when it comes to prose, and DMing?
Well let's just say that AI Dungeon 2 crawled so that ChatGPT can sorta aimlessly waddle around in those babywalker things that seem neat and helpful, but are actually deathtraps that can cause long term health and developmental issues by actively preventing your child from spending the time they need to crawl around and develop the motoric skills and musculature needed to stand and fail repeatedly at walking. (Which is why they have been banned in Canada since 2004.)
_____
Maria D.R./Lamarck is an Indonesian writer whose boomer mother has talked about how great AI is to me and everyone in her social circle every damned day since ChatGPT was released.
