for the folks who wanted all of Susan Twist's casting appearances to date, here you go:
Mrs Merridew in Wild Blue Yonder
Mystery Woman in The Church on Ruby Road (uncredited)
Comms Officer Gina Scalzi in Space Babies (uncredited)
Tea Lady in The Devil's Chord
Ambulance in Boom
i don't believe Russell for a second, that they just 'ran out of actors' 😂 i am convinced that this mystery woman played by Susan Twist is some sort of embodiment of Story, the way Maestro is the embodiment of Music. the way she keeps playing supporting parts, the reference to Margaret Lockwood in The Wicked Lady... there's a few theories percolating right now, but i think she's a large part of the reason why the fourth wall keeps being broken. it's strange, how intrusive her presence is...it seems that with each episode, her importance to the plot grows stronger. she's gone from small speaking roles which don't impact the story, to directly interacting with the Doctor and Ruby, to being capable of killing characters in the central plot... is it possible that Susan Twist's character is attempting to take over the narrative and become the main character of Doctor Who herself? 👀

Seeing people say that we never see the Doctor and Ruby talking for more than 30 seconds makes me think 73 Yards and Dot and Bubble has just clouded their memories because the first four episodes of this era are almost nothing but the Doctor and Ruby talking and bonding.

Yeah, the Doctor-lite episodes meant we haven't had as much lately, but so many are going on as there's been none at all, as if every episode before 73 Yards was like Rogue where they were mostly separated in their own plotlines.
#doctor who#dw#fifteenth doctor#ruby sunday#ncuti gatwa#millie gibson#and don't get me started on the tardis bookends discourse#that argument lost all credibility when the same people insisted the ending of rogue be moved to the tardis#for no reason other than they wanted it in the tardis#it was exactly the type of scene they said the season was lacking#but didn't count because it wasn't in the tardis#same as with boom#one of the reasons they don't do tardis scenes at the start and end of every episode is because they get rather repetative#if you started rogue with the doctor and ruby in the tardis it would just end up being a repeated of the devil's chord#they decide to do bridgerton and get all dressed up#we don't really need a scene explaining why they're there#it is built into the whole show that they are just roamers#often randomly showing up in places and trying to have fun#for them going to a regency ball is no different than going to a club is for most people#wildest one was someone complaining why they were in wales at the start of 73 yards#they argued that because we didn't get a scene in the tardis we had no idea if being there was intentional or not#but that is irrelevant#the tardis often just lands in random places and the doctor and co have no idea where they are until they step outside#so many episodes start with them stepping outside and going “where the hell are we?”#everything that could've been said in the tardis was said outside it#there was no need to split that between two locations#especially when one actors time is limited#this all feels tied into the ongoing discourse about shows being longer#which many say is to it in more character beats#but honestly just feels like a hunger for more content

obsessed with how Russell T. Davies' episodes this season have gone so quickly from "run about with space babies! the beatles return the world's music" to "ruby assassinates the prime minister. mass murder in racism city"

how the fuck do you have a Doctor Who episode featuring the Beatles with a villain who embodies music and is stealing all the music in the world and not have the resolution of the story be "the Maestro may be able to out-music-duel any one person, but multiple people playing music together and harmonizing can defeat the Maestro." come the fuck on. it's RIGHT THERE.

I love how freaked out the Doctor was in every scene in this episode since Maestro appeared.

My ranking of this series of Doctor Who:
8. Space Babies
No surprise here. Starts out strong but doesn’t stick the landing. I’d rather skip the last half hour and watch The Mind Robber instead.
7. Empire of Death
This one didn’t do it for me. I’ve never liked big time skips, the reveal of Ruby’s mother was disappointing, and too many plot threads were left dangling. That being said, there were some wonderful moments, like the scene in Downing Street set to Carol of the Bells.
6. The Devil’s Chord
Jinkx’s performance is good, but she’s at a 12 when she needs to be at an 11. There wasn’t enough to ground Maestro’s character, and as a result the episode felt disjointed. Great fun, though, and RTD did a great job conveying the stakes of dealing with gods.
5. Rogue
I’m giving this one the benefit of the doubt, as I wasn’t in the right state of mind when it came out and I haven’t rewatched it. Great performances, but overall the story felt stilted. Every time someone said “cosplay” it took me out of the fantasy.
4. 73 Yards
Great episode, and Millie Gibson shines. I’m too confused to rank it properly. Scariest episode in a while, with a haunting ending.
3. Dot and Bubble
I’m sure 73 Yards was technically better, but this one was a shock. As with many of the stories this season, what makes the twist of this episode so effective is that it was in plain sight the whole time. Made me reflect on how I navigate the world.
2. Boom
Moffat, it’s good to have you back! Great premise, very suspenseful, had me on the edge of my seat. I am concerned that Ncuti doesn’t have the gravitas to consistently deliver as the Oncoming Storm, but we shall see.
1. The Legend of Ruby Sunday
Not the technical best of this list, but certainly the most enjoyable! I was hooked the whole time, and my jaw was on the floor at the end. I have been getting more into Classic Who lately, and I loved having that pay off. The best part of this episode is the shots of the TARDIS in UNIT HQ, making that horrible noise, a symbol of hope and joy transformed into something menacing and terrible. This is Ncuti’s best performance of the season, and it’s the first time I truly saw him as the Doctor.

i saw a post saying boom was good bc it feels like it could be done with any doctor/companion duo and honestly that was one of the things i felt was wrong with it
#in a show with a title character that could be Literally Anyone and a companion sharing the lead that could be Literally Anyone#i value the little moments that set this duo apart from the rest. ESPECIALLY when it comes to returning writers like rtd/moff#fifteen and ruby felt a little too eleven/twelve and clara adjacent in boom. in both their dialogue and characterization#space babies also landed a little weird at first bc it lifted a bit from end of the world BUT the scenes that fifteen and ruby#had to themselves. like ruby getting covered in snot and fifteen laughing. or fifteen and ruby looking after the Space Babies#or fifteen going out of his way to save the monster bc that monster is the only one of its kind Just Like Him Fr#that stuff is so good and its also something we haven't seen from another nuwho doctor. the vulnerable bleeding-heart empathy#and a dynamic w a companion that is basically 'two troublemakers that just deeply love fun and adventure and getting into trouble together'#oh yeah and also the devil's chord was peak fiction because it touches on fifteen's renewed connection and love for humanity#and marries it to ruby being a musician and how music like any art is the expression of the human soul etc etc#WHAT MAKES A DOCTOR WHO STORY GOOD TO ME IS PARTLY HOW THE PREMISE TIES INTO THE DOCTOR AND COMPANION'S CHARACTERS#IT HAS TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS TAILOR MADE TO THEM. ELSE IT WONT LAND RIGHT TO ME#i hate the take that they should've saved wild blue yonder for a fifteen episode bc#the tension is hinged on how well the doctor/companion know each other. u have a level of it that u can ONLY get#with fourteen and donna who are two halves of a whole soul but have also spent much more time missing the other than knowing them#im not rewatching fifteen's eps rn until a week later when i can watch it w my qpp but#rn i still feel a stronger sense of fifteen and ruby's characters from all the rtd-written eps rather moffat#which like. i get that a lot of that is my personal dislike of moffat's writing style but still#dr who#15 era#dw spoilers
