Question
Should disabled actors and actresses be allowed to play roles that were not written as disabled characters? Let's say, for example, an actor or actress that uses a wheelchair plays a character that was written as a fully able-bodied person. Is that acceptable?

I've had a lot of good conversations with actors about representation in movies. And a out how I fit into it. Movies and tv often struggle with autism, tic disorder and wheelchairs (and a fuck ton more) and I fit all those categories. More recently it's gotten much better characters with disabilities being played by disabled actors.
A good example is the horror movie, Run, which is quickly be coming on of my favorites. It stars a wheelchair user, and portrays had character very positively. Today I was talking to an actor whoses been ina lot of horror movies and once played a character in a wheelchair. He mentioned how it would have been better if they'd cast an actual wheelchair user.
what I'm saying is some people in Hollywood know that disabled people deserve to be there. They acknowledge that we should be in certain roles, that we aren't just something to make fun of. And it feels good.

Life Update
In recent weeks, I’ve had life-changing news. I will be playing Miranda in a production that crosses over Gilligan’s Island and Shakespeare The Tempest. I’m so excited, because Miranda is a principle role, and I’ve never gotten a large role before.

I did also enjoy that there's an angel who uses a mobility aid this season btw... and that they show them casting a spell of Create Accessible Ramp to use their wheelchair instead of just miracling themselves into being able bodied and walking. more of this please

The actress, who plays Dr. Mel's sister, Becca -- Tal Anderson -- is actually autistic. :)
From her IMDB page:
Tal Anderson is a storyteller and an advocate for change, using her voice and platform as an actor to support inclusion and authentic representation in Hollywood. [...] As an autistic artist, she uses her unique position to advocate for disability rights in the workplace and inclusivity in front of and behind the camera in Hollywood. [...] When she's not acting, Tal flexes her creative muscles with editing and writing. She has edited exhibit videos for the Smithsonian Institute, and has completed post-production for many independent short and feature length narrative and documentary films. She's an avid horror movie fan, lover of rock music, and is a true crime enthusiast. When it comes to her presence in the public eye, she wants people to see her as a real person who's doing their job authentically and doing their best to advocate for equality and disability. She has permanently relocated to Los Angeles, where she lives with her cat Winifred.
I'm sure her presence in the cast of the show has an influence on how Mel is portrayed, perhaps on how she's written and how Taylor Dearden plays her. This is good. :) And Taylor is rather convincing in the role. Now I'm curious if Taylor was chosen for her physical similarity to Tal, rather than the other way around. :)

The conversation between Mel and Becca was very sweet, btw.

I should be compensated for the full span of emotions I went through about Brooklynn through this season. Coming into it full of hope and slowly starting to lose faith that she's actually okay, deciding that nope, she is actually dead when it's revealed that it's Mateo driving the truck that saves the Campers (I'd hoped it was her) and then at the last possible second, finally getting the truth. i literally jumped out of my chair and had to pace around for a sec when i saw her.

Heartbreaking, the only use of the 'We/you deserve each other!' motif where all sides are in agreement is 'Just her and me! The Wicked Witch of the East! We deserve each other...'
(which Nessa then instantly back slides on, robbing her of her character development to make the Tinman blame Elphie, in a very unnecessary and contrived way seeing as he literally already does-) (I hope they change that in the movie and focus in on the tragedy that Nessa finally realises her mistakes just after burning her final bridge, instead of having her grab the lighter again immediately-)

lack of empathy online is making spaces uninhabitable fyi!
the same losers that wish for “the fun era of the internet” are the main people being vindictive and apathetic. and usually it’s their first response too.
no matter how many times they comment, “it’s not that deep” or “clap if you care”, it won’t shield them from their own ideology. instead, they’ll find that you’ll never receive empathy or support in the way you want it…because you only ever get what you give. and the grand majority is giving out absolutely vile behavior. so.

people on reddit when you ask them consider if they might just maybe have internal biases that make them care more about Nessa's disability than any other "change" from the original wizard of oz

I feel like part of the problem with disability representation is that frequently, only the people on one end of the spectrum are able to participate. Which leads to all the representation being of people on one end of the spectrum, which leads to unrealistic and unhelpful ideas about the disability.
Case in point: all the actors, influencers, etc that you see who have Down Syndrome most likely have mosaicism. This is the most mild type of the condition and only accounts for 1% of people with Down Syndrome. Most people with Down Syndrome are not able to maintain jobs or live on their own, but people mosaicism often can. But because people who don't know anyone with Down Syndrome in real life only see folks with mosaicism represented, they can end up with an inaccurate idea of Down Syndrome and its effects. This can lead to unrealistic expectations on the other 99% of individuals, and the families who need support in caring for them.
This doesn't mean the mosaicism representation is bad or wrong. It's still way better than no representation at all, and it's great for folks with that version of the condition. But it bothers me when people see that 1% of folks with Down Syndrome and assume that's all Down Syndrome is.

Unfortunately Famous: Empathy Denied
Just dropping Book 2....
Summary:
Regina Mills has been lying to everyone. Feeling a deep desire to give justice to her latest character, she becomes completely immersed in the experience, almost losing her life.
As a new person joins her journey, she tries desperately to claw her way out, and prove that the girl was real at all. As time ticks down on a girl's lifeline, she must convince those around her that she's suddenly telling the truth.
If you have not read "Unfortunately Famous" first I would definitely recommend starting there as this is a continuation.
Notes:
So I've been sitting on this little secret for a while ;) we're back. did you miss me? Lol. Publishing is still in progress for book one but it's time we continued this tale in Empathy.
