May your pain medication always kick in right after you take them. May your compression garments always slip on your body with ease. May you always find your footing when you walk. May you wake up with energy and zest. May your sinuses always be clear

Happy Face Equality Week :-D
Tumblr media
(short ID in alt text, longer below)
I really wanted to draw some happy people with facial differences for this week so:)
if you tag this as "tw scars" or some other "body horror" I'm killing u btw:D!!!
[Image description: digital drawing of 7 character with facial differences against a patterned background. The left side shows a gay couple sitting and hugging; one from them has a large bump on his forehead and widespread eyes, while the other has paralysis on one side of his face. In the middle is a teen girl cuddling with a cat, both of which are missing their left eye. Below her is a nonbinary person smoking a cigarette with heart-shaped smoke surrounding them; they have facial atrophy on one side of their face. The right side is split into three small panels; top one shows a Black girl with a cystic hygroma on her jaw on a pastel pink background, middle shows an Indian man with Crouzon syndrome from the side smiling, bottom is a zoom on the side of the head of a person with microtia; they're wearing a bone-anchored hearing aid and have a buzz cut with stars patterned in it. At the bottom, "Happy Face Equality Week" is written. End image description.]

a reminder to my fellow disabled people it isn't wrong or make you less of a player for using accessibility options.
a reminder that playing on a low difficulty only or (like with games with minecraft) no difficulty
a reminder that using unlimited health options like in cult of the lamb is not bad or wrong and you are no less of a player for using it
turning brightness high on horror games like tattletale whether its because you are visually impaired or because you cannot handle the fear a low-light scene can cause.
disabled people are not any less a gamer for needing accessibility options. we are not any less a gamer for playing the game on easy. we are not any less a gamer because we are disabled and might not be able to get all the achievements or trophies or whatever a game has available.
we deserve to be able to enjoy the games we want to play

if you feel like you’re ‘getting in the way’ as a mobility aid user, particularly with larger aids like wheelchairs, rollators/walkers, gait trainers and service dogs, That Is A Fault Of The Space (and potentially the people), not of you. You deserve all the space you take up and more.

Here's some positivity towards people with medical devices that others view as "gross", or "shouldn't be seen in public". It's bullshit the way this gets treated and I want more positivity about it, so I'm making it myself.
People with catheters. People with stoma bags. People with feeding tubes. People who have tubing or medical alterations they can't hide. People who otherwise have medical devices which are deemed "not socially acceptable" and "gross".
Your medical devices deserve to take up space. We should not be made to feel ashamed for devices which keep us alive. We should not be made to feel insecure for the ways our bodies function and the assistance we need to live. You deserve to be yourself, you deserve to exist in public as a disabled person, and you deserve to be accepted and celebrated as yourself, medical devices included.

I'm watching the opening ceremony of the paralympic games right now, and I noticed there's something healing about seeing so many disabled in one place, all just celebrating their participation. Seeing so many manual wheelchair users with and without power assists, powerchair users, both with lightweight folding powerchairs and bigger powerchairs that provide more support. Mobility scooter users, crutch users, cane users, blindness cane users, and so many more. I think I even spotted a service/guide dog. And then there are people who are otherwise visibly disabled. Amputees of all kinds, people with other limb differences, people with dwarfism and people who limp.
And not just that: I saw so many disabled people wearing traditional clothes of their countries, disability people waving the flags of their respective countries, and a big crowd cheering on them.
Yes, they are the world's best athletes, and they all deserve every bit of applause they get on the basis of their athletic accomplishments alone. But they're also very much disabled, and I love how normal it feels to be visibly disabled to me right now because of them. Because they walk down the Avenue des Champs Élysées with people from all over the world watching them, like it's the most normal thing for disabled people to do ever.
It just makes me so happy. I know not everything is perfect with the paralympics but I just need to happy vent right now.

relapse is not a moral failure. substance use and addiction are not a moral failure. mental illness is not a moral failure. disability is not a moral failure. you have a health condition. you are struggling. recovery is not mean to be perfect, and if you're not in recovery, surviving is good too. i'm glad you're here, and i hope life treats you better soon. please know this is not your fault. you do not need to feel guilty over your own health.

hey, you're allowed to take up space and make noise
it's okay if your mobility aids click or squeak
it's okay if you need more space to pass because of your aids or the way you walk
it's okay if you need to ask more questions
it's okay if you need to ask for help with things, either for physical or mental limitations
it's okay if the way your body is means you need more room
it's okay to exist and to take up space

it is possible to live happy life and have a happy future when you have medium/high support needs. it's possible for us to be accommodated. it's possible to get needs met. it's possible to find a satisfying way of existence.
i want to bring some hope for us. yes, we are often trapped in unsatisfying situations. from abusive homes/bad caretakers/unsupportive environments/etc. to dictatorships that we have additional barriers to escape from.
but. we aren't doomed to stay like this forever. we aren't doomed to live unsatisfying life.
it's possible to get more needs met. it's possible to get supportive and accessible environment. it's possible to flee abusive/toxic/dangerous situations. it's possible to get more joy. it's possible to find community. it's possible to find things that bring you joy, make you feel like you do something meaningful. it's possible to be happy.
i can't promise everything will be good. but i can hope. and i want to share this hope with you. i wish we all get some hope on better future.

people who aren’t in pain all the time don’t understand how much being in constant pain makes it so much harder to do everything… bc pain is so draining and it takes so much more energy/effort to push through it to do anything
so if you have chronic pain and manage to do anything at all today i am proud of you ✨✨
sometimes even just getting out of bed deserves a good star 🌟

Happy World Down Syndrome Day !!!
People with Down Syndrome are an irreplaceable part of the disability and neurodivergent communities, and we need to do a better job at including them! Don't forget about them in your activism!
[Image description: Digital drawing of two smiling people with Down Syndrome standing next to each other, interlocking hands in the air. The person on the left is a teenage white boy with long brown hair, wearing a yellow sweater. The person on the left is a young Black woman with braided hair, wearing a yellow shirt and jeans. Behind their hands is a yellow star shape. In the bottom left corner, "#EndTheStereotypes" is written in all caps. Between the characters is the date "21/3". Background is light blue. I love you, trans people with intellectual disabilities. You deserve to have the same opportunities as everybody else, and that's because you are a person. You deserve to be happy. Intellectually disabled trans people deserve the exact same respect, recognition, and love that (should be) afforded to everybody else.
Intellectually disabled trans people, you deserve to make your own decisions about your transness. You are allowed to want for transition or to change your name, clothes, hair, pronouns, or anything else. You deserve support and understanding. I hope you are able to receive that. You belong in this world as your true self. Your transness and your disability/disabilities are not bad things - they are good, and they are important.
