Mundane TWST Headcanons
Riddle: expanded the room the hedgehogs and flamingos have in their enclosures
Trey: actually eats super healthily when it comes to cooking for himself. He can make food taste like whatever he wants, so he has no problem with vegetables
Cater: used to have three diamonds on his cheek because the aesthetic was nicer, but stopped doing that when Jade and Floyd came to school because he didn’t want to ‘steal their shtick’
Ace: the type of kid to throw everything into the trash can from across the room. If it looks like it’s going to miss he does a quick little bit of wind magic to send it back on course
Deuce: his hair is blue because he dyed his hair black a while back and he doesn’t know how often you’re supposed to touch it up (his mom dyes her hair with him)
Leona: actually physically can’t stay awake through a whole day anymore because he accidentally conditioned his body into taking naps
Ruggie: is best friends with the kitchen ghosts. They pile extra food on his plate
Jack: likes to watch the sunrise while jogging in the mornings but will never admit it
Azul: allows his workers one free meal a day
Jade: when he takes off his shoes in their dorm, he stops to find wherever Floyd kicked his shoes off and sets them neatly by the door for him
Floyd: whenever he cooks, people make sure to send their compliments to the chef. He knows it’s at least partially out of fear, but it makes him happy to hear that people enjoyed what he made anyway
Kalim: always makes sure to not throw any parties within a week of Jamil’s birthday. He wants to throw Jamil a party himself, but Jamil would up stressed and trying to micromanage everything from the sidelines, so this is the best he can do
Jamil: his hair is long as a tiny act of rebellion. It’s inconvenient in every part of his job, and it makes him happy to grow it out despite this
Vil: when he gets free samples from brands he models for, he gives them to his dorm members. He can afford to buy it all himself, anyway
Rook: if someone in the dorm ever cries, he’ll stand outside their door making sure no one comes in
Epel: his family sends all of the other first years almost as many apples as Epel himself gets
Idia: used to play ‘monsters vs heroes’ with Ortho when they were kids. Ortho always insisted on being the hero, and Idia would always do the most dramatic, drawn out ‘deaths’ when he ‘lost’
Ortho: he knows he can watch and analyze movies in a second, but he likes to enjoy them in real time
Malleus: if he has ice cream, he will temporarily make the area around himself colder to make sure it doesn’t melt
Lilia: the only reason he remembers his birthday every year is because he makes a point to throw a (small) party just so he can invite Malleus to it
Sebek: is good with volume control if you ask him to be quieter
Silver: his hair is always a mess because birds try to preen him

BTHB 2023 - Fill 16 - Worked Themselves to Exhaustion
I know, I know, I have other things with OTHER fancy-haired jackasses to write, but hear me out here--
TWs: Illness, fever, exhaustion
It was weird to Mariano to remember that for all his bragging, Bastian was legitimately a very good artist. His tattoo shop was busy, fully booked for weeks despite the less-than-amazing location, and whenever he saw Bastian's business social media it seemed to generally be getting good engagement. It helped, Mariano thought as he finished steam-cleaning their carpet, that Bastian also was very attractive, with a pleasantly rumbling voice.
All of this meant that sometimes someone would get it into their head to fly him out to do a tattoo across the country. He'd usually take a one-way flight, stay a week to do a guest visit at some tattoo shop he'd been talking to online, then come home. Occasionally, to Mariano's surprise, he'd even get invited to tattoo conventions.
Those trips were somehow even busier for him.
Mariano tended to just accept these as quiet times, when he could catch up on cleaning and tidying that had been hovering around the lower middle of his to-do list. It brought a certain distinct peace to be able to just go rent a steam cleaner after work and pull as much staining out of the carpets as physically possible, or to mix up a cleaning solution to wash some of the last tenant's smoke from the yellowed walls and set about scrubbing. It just left him feeling comfortably exhausted when he fell into bed afterwards, knowing that the job was done and done well.
Plus, it was usually a nice surprise for Bastian to come home to.
The morning Bastian arrived, Mariano was startled awake by the sound of their front door peeling away from the frame. There was no window in his room to let the mid-morning sun in, but even so he was usually up much earlier. With a jaw-cracking yawn, Mariano stood from his bed and went to the living room, hair still in a bun at the top of his head and his robe pulled around his shoulders. "Bastian?" He asked, voice still husky from sleep.
"Yeah, 'm home. Finally." Bastian muttered, shaking the walls as he collapsed down onto the couch with a sigh. "God, it's good to be out of that airport. Had to wait three hours for my luggage and that con was shit." The dragon grumbled, a tattooed arm draped over his eyes. "Couldn't catch a fucking break all week."
Mariano leaned in to kiss his forehead and froze when his lips met Bastian's scaled skin. "Bastian, you're cold." He said as he pulled back to look at Bastian's face, all traces of drowsiness evaporating in an instant. He looked paler than usual, a sheen of sweat giving him a different sort of shine than Mariano was used to.
His hands cupped Bastian's neck, dark thumbs carefully pressing up under his jaw to see if his lymph nodes felt normal. Mariano frowned, checking again. "Mm. I think you have a fever." He said, one hand rising to feel Bastian's forehead again. "You're just barely warmer than me. Do you usually have a low temperature when you're sick?"
Bastian shrugged with a noncommittal noise. moving his head to let out a wet cough into his elbow. "I just don't get sick. Built different."
Mariano sighed, straightening back up fully. "Alright, then. Wait here." If Bastian wasn't a living furnace then he had to be feeling miserable, even if he refused to admit it.
A quick shower might help warm him back up, and an old cold remedy couldn't hurt. Mariano turned the water on as hot as he could stand, then cranked it up a little further. A scoop of vapor rub was flicked into the tub with a few dried rosemary stems, the smell of menthol and herbs immediately starting to fill the bathroom.
"Alright, built-different, get up." Mariano called, making his way to their kitchen. "Go shower, I'll make you some soup."
"No, no the fuck you are not, I'm feeling shitty enough--"
"It's from a can. I'm just adding some chili to it." Mariano cut Bastian off. He couldn't stop himself from feeling a flash of smug satisfaction as Bastian just grumbled his way to the bathroom, shaking his head.
One pan, a can of condensed soup, and varying amounts of all the chilis in their cabinets later, and Mariano was ladling out clear-your-sinuses tomato soup into a bowl, with a side of the only grilled cheese to ever make his eyes water during cooking. It was a pretty decent end result, if he said so himself. The bread had only gotten a little charred at the edges of the crust.
Bringing it into Bastian's bedroom, he set the tray on one of the bedside tables. One corner of the duvet he'd smoothed out the day before was pulled back, and Mariano got Bastian's warmest robe from its hook. With it draped over one arm, he waited outside the bathroom door in ambush.
"Hey," Bastian called after the water cut off, his voice sounding even more exhausted, somehow. The door cracked open and Bastian peeked his head out, the heavy bags under his eyes no longer hidden by makeup. "Can you get me...oh." He cut himself off as Mariano held out his robe. "...Thank you." Somehow, with his hair heavy with water and his foundation down their shower drain, the dragon looked five feet tall instead of seven.
He didn't even argue as Mariano led him to bed with one hand between his shoulder blades, the robe only barely seeming to shield him from the chill of their chronically-under-heated apartment. With a shivery sigh, Bastian sunk down into his blankets, pulling them up over his shoulders. Mariano brushed some of Bastian's hair back, pulling the wet strands away from his face.
"Go ahead and eat." He said, feeling Bastian's temperature again. He was just a bit warmer, but he'd take any improvement he could get. "It's too spicy for me to even try, so it might help. My mother swore by it when my father or I were sick."
Bastian laughed, managing to sit himself up and pull the tray onto his lap. "Thanks, Mariano." He said, leaning back against his pillows and closing his eyes before taking his first bite. Watching his shoulders relax, Mariano felt his own tension ease. "It's so nice to be home again."
#bad things happen bingo#bthb#worked themselves to exhaustion#whump#whump writing#illness#fever#comfort#mage of violence#dragon of diamond#this is really soft dw#i think it might be the softest one so far#mariano cannot cook do not let him make something more complex than a grilled cheese or a diner style omelet for you if you want to eat

ABOUT THE CULTURE OF HIP-HOP WITH TEETH GRILLZ
Hip-hop culture is a vibrant and influential movement that encompasses various elements, including music, fashion, dance, and art. One of the most prominent aspects of hip-hop culture is its unique fashion sense, which often involves the use of flashy and eye-catching accessories. Among these accessories, grillz, also spelled grills, have become an iconic symbol associated with hip-hop and rap artists.
Grillz are decorative dental accessories worn over the teeth. They are typically made of precious metals like gold, silver, or platinum and often adorned with diamonds or other gemstones. Grillz are custom-made to fit an individual's teeth and can be removable or permanently attached. They are used as a way to express personal style, wealth, and status within the hip-hop community.
The history of grillz can be traced back to ancient times when people used to decorate their teeth with various materials. For example, in ancient Etruscan and Mayan cultures, people would insert gemstones or seashells into their teeth to enhance their appearance. However, the modern grillz we see today originated in the hip-hop scene of the 1980s.
It is believed that the trend of wearing grillz began in New York City during the early days of hip-hop. Artists like Rakim, Slick Rick, and Big Daddy Kane were among the pioneers who started sporting gold and diamond-encrusted dental accessories. These early adopters helped popularize grillz as a symbol of success and extravagance within the hip-hop community.
In the 1990s, the trend spread further with the emergence of Southern hip-hop, particularly from cities like Houston. Rappers like DJ Screw, Paul Wall, and Lil Wayne became known for their elaborate and often exaggerated grillz. This regional influence brought grillz into the mainstream consciousness and solidified their association with hip-hop culture.
Grillz continued to gain popularity throughout the 2000s and 2010s, becoming a staple accessory for many hip-hop artists. Not only did they serve as a status symbol, but they also became a form of self-expression and creativity. Rappers like Nelly, T-Pain, and Kanye West were known for their unique and intricate grillz designs, further cementing the trend's place in hip-hop culture.
In recent years, grillz have transcended their hip-hop roots and have become a fashion statement embraced by people from various backgrounds. Celebrities outside the music industry, such as athletes and actors, have been seen sporting grillz at red carpet events and public appearances. The fashion industry has also taken notice, with designers incorporating grillz-inspired elements into their collections.
While grillz have evolved and become more mainstream, they still maintain their connection to hip-hop culture. They continue to represent individuality, confidence, and a desire to stand out from the crowd. The appeal of grillz lies in their ability to convey personal style and create a visually striking statement, making them an enduring symbol of hip-hop's influence on fashion and self-expression.
