While Grace heads back inside, Iseul heads outside and runs into her neighbor and friend Dani, who compliments her outfit and takes a random photo as Iseul laughs. Plus Iseul checks in with Dani asks how they’re doing. Then the two of them automatically head out to have a snowball fight at 10pm while Iseul is still in her Eid outfit which is nice but not very warm. I have them head back inside, and head to their respective apartments. Iseul changes into her PJs and hesitates before getting in bed next to Grace. Grace stiffens a bit but snuggles close to Iseul, Iseul sighs softly and her thoughts race. She's still feeling guilty over admitting to Grace that she has feelings for Megan, and the phone conversation she had with Megan after.
She'd called Megan to check in yesterday, and Megan had been crying and told her that she told Tess about their awkward moment, and Tess had left for two days to clear her head. "But it's not your fault. I was the asshole who brought up our past relationship." Iseul had said, feeling like a black hole was forming in her stomach. "It's complicated, Issy." Megan said, and Iseul could tell she wasn't telling her something but didn't want to ask. ‘I’m so so sorry.” Iseul said. “It’s not your fault, Issy.” Megan had said adamantly, but Iseul couldn’t fight the guilt she was feeling. “Issy, I think maybe we should spend some time apart for now until we can both resolve things. I really like you as a friend, but I can’t lose Tessie, and I don’t want you to lose Grace.” Megan said quietly. Iseul swallowed hard, “Yeah, maybe it’s for the best.” She said even though she didn’t feel like it, and she and Megan had said their goodbyes before hanging up.
Now, Iseul lies in bed feeling morose. She’s probably ruined her friendship with Megan, who she really does love as a friend despite the awkward feelings for her, and Grace is having a hard time trusting her again. She wishes her umma was still alive, so she could ask her for advice. Nari Kang was a very firm but gentle woman, and loved her two kids but always gave it to them straight and told them when they were wrong but also supported them in making their own choices and decisions. Iseul feels like she would definitely have been disappointed but she would have understood. She could imagine her mom telling her to make up with Grace and then with Megan and Tess, and resolves to do that. She tries not to cry and snuggles closer to Grace, who slings a leg over her, and eventually drifts off to sleep.

For this module ‘The Story of Me’ I decided to do it on Dubai. The reason for this being is I was born there and raised there. It is a massive part of my life and I still go back to Dubai to visit my dad, so for that choosing Dubai was the one for me. I want to express my narrative through my work by producing a range of samples linking back to primary photos showing my favourite places in Dubai, mainly places that hold special memories for me. I then gathered some photos from my phone of my recent visit to see my dad in Dubai. I could express how much Dubai means to me through these photos really well as my dad took me to all my favourite places and stayed in my favourite hotel when we last visited so therefore, making samples relating back achieved my result.
I looked at Dany Eid who is a photographer at the start of this module and took a lot of inspiration from him. What I love about Dubai and what Dubai is really known for is its landscapes and architecture. His photography of Dubai’s architecture really inspired me and what I liked about Dany Eid, every photo means something to him, it's not just a photo.
I then decided to cut up each of my primary photos to collage them together to create my introduction page at the start of my sketchbook.
Throughout my sketchbook my colour pallet has been a lot of blues, pastel colours and greens, being that these are the colours that remind me of Dubai, as it is always hot, sunny and mainly a happy place to me.
Front page
Weave 1
One of my first sessions was in weave, the first sample I created was a basic weave. I experienced weaving for the first time during this session. In addition to learning how to use the looms, we also learned what each part of it does. In our first workshop we used four-shaft weaving looms. As we lifted each shaft, we created the pattern we chose. My choice was a basic weave. when I created my pattern, I focused on using colours linking back to a primary photo that I had chosen, in which I cut out the sea from an image of a building that means a lot to me, the Burj Al Arab. For this small sample, I chose pink and navy as I thought these two colours were best suited.
In order to create my pattern, I first dropped all shaft levers on the right side of the machine and then threaded the weft thread between the wraps using the shuttle. Then I pushed the thread down with the reed so that the weave remained tight. Then I continued to repeat this and then after I was happy with the navy colour, I then switched over to pink. I then completed the same process using a pink thread.
I felt like this session went okay, however, I did find weave from the start very challenging, and I could have been more confident and got more done that day. However through all my weave workshops, weave has turned out to be my favourite which I never thought I could do it at the start. I have become very confident with it and have created my two final pieces using a variety of techniques, materials.
Screen print 1
Another session I did was in print. I was taught how to screen print. I found this very interesting as it was my first time. I thought this process went well for recreating my primary photo which was the sea in Dubai. When creating this sample I tried to link it back to my primary photo as much as I could, I made sure to find a print with the best-suited pattern that would relate back to the sea. To enhance the sample to make it look more realistic I used dark blue and baby blue to relate back to the colours of the sea. I thought both screen prints of the sea in Dubai were good however I could have used less paint as I had some smudging after I finished with my print.

so españa
- set the season during ramadan but didn't give us ANY family clip (or even family dynamics for that matter lol) and also didn't do an eid clip which is ???
- introduced las labass to just. forget about them after 3 episodes.
- changed pov to random characters for no reason at all other than stealing amira's screentime and wrap up THEIR storylines, not caring about AMIRA's
- the whole kasim subplot. what was the point. and let's not forget that they made it look like amira did him a favor by outing him. yikes.
- spent 80% of the season on dani/amira to NOT make them an endgame??????? making amira THE ONLY ONE of her friends who is not in a relationship??? so they just. wasted the whole season on building their relationship and made dani, well, horny when they could just. make him considerate and caring (that he is!) and get them back together to show that there will be hard times but they will come out of it stronger.....
this season was so pointless.

Expo 2020 Dubai Sustainability Pavilion Building

Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion at EXPO 2020 Dubai
Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion, opened to the public in 2021 as one of the top three attractions of the Dubai Expo 2020, and aims to illuminate the ingenuity and possibility of architecture as society looks to intelligent strategies for future sustainable living.
photograph : Dany Eid / Expo 2020
Drawing inspiration from complex natural processes like photosynthesis, the dynamic form of the Pavilion is in service to its function, capturing energy from sunlight and fresh water from humid air. The relationship of building to site, and to its physical and cultural contexts is critical, as the facility’s strength lies in its capacity to demonstrate a new way of living sustainably in a challenging desert environment.
Sited in a prominent location, the Pavilion structure works in tandem with the considered landscape of demonstration gardens, winding pathways and shaded enclaves to create an aura of magic punctuated by the sights, smells and tactile opportunities of nature. The gardens are both experiential and functional, setting the stage for the exhibition contents within and creating shaded gathering areas that will manage and distribute crowds while providing retail, food and beverage opportunities.
When creating a building with a goal of generating its own energy and water in a harsh climate, the solution cannot be driven by a single aspect of the design. To achieve net-zero, the design required a series of technologies, building systems and design solutions to act in unison. This self-contained, micro-ecosystem resulted from a combination of strategies: optimizing the natural conditions inherent in its location; working with and within them to maximize efficiency; and supplementing them with pioneering sustainable technologies to create innovative solutions
The design is driven by maximizing efficiency which it does by seeking shade in the one place available: below the ground. The Pavilion uses the insulating properties of the earth to shield it from the harsh ambient temperatures which can soar to 50 degrees in the warmer months.
photo : Dany Eid / Expo 2020
Most of the accommodation is below grade and cased with an earth roof system, creating a substantial barrier to help reduce its cooling loads and conserve energy. The above ground surfaces are clad with a gabion rainscreen wall – sourced with local stone from the Hajar Mountains – which provides enough thermal mass to absorb the heat while the stone’s natural color reflects the sun.
Flora and fauna sourced from the surrounding deserts – including some species that have been never been cultivated by humans – are arranged on the planted roofs and throughout the gardens, creating a water efficient landscape that functions through a series of closed loop systems designed to filter, supply and recycle water. The framing of these local topographical and floral features, combined with the technologies of water recycling and reuse, provide visitors a newfound appreciation of the unique region and its biodiversity. The site also includes areas for productive agricultural landscape featuring halophytic agriculture and other testing beds.
The culmination of the building’s systems can be found in the heart of the Pavilion, its large exterior courtyard. Borrowing from the vernacular of the region, the courtyard provides a large, passively cooled space for visitors. During the design, thermodynamic studies charting the prevailing breezes were used to shape the courtyard to allow desirable cool south-westerly breezes to enter while blocking warmer winds.
Soaring over the courtyard, the Pavilion’s canopy accommodates more than 6,000 sqm of ultra-efficient monocrystalline photovoltaic cells embedded in glass panels. The combination of the cell and the glass casing allow the building to harness solar energy while providing shade and daylighting to the visitors below. The experience in the courtyard is of being beneath a large shade tree with dappled light projecting onto the surfaces below. The form of the canopy works with the courtyard to direct cool air in, while simultaneously exhausting low-lying hot air through a chimney effect at the centre.
The canopy also serves as a large collection area for stormwater and dew that replenishes the building’s water system. The result is a structure that combines the most advanced technology in solar capture and a clear understanding of the natural conditions of the site to actively generate energy while passively cooling and enhancing the experience of the visitor. With over 6,000 sqm of exhibition space, the Sustainability Pavilion will enjoy a long life after Expo is over, transforming into a science museum and expanding on its mission of exploring sustainable practices and the critical stewardship of our fragile planet.
ENERGY E TREES The Sustainability Pavilion is complemented by an installation of Energy Trees which contribute toward its goal of producing its own energy. Nineteen E-trees ranging from 15-18m in diameter are dispersed throughout the site and provide 28% of the energy required to power the building. Inspired by the Dragon’s Blood, a tree found only on Socotra, an island 200 miles off the coast of Yemen, the E-Tree is designed to be a deployable freestanding shade structure that harvests the sun’s energy. The structure is constructed from steel and complex composites and has been optimized to support an 18m photovoltaic array.
Taking further cues from nature, the array follows the sun in the same manner as a sunflower, rotating 180 degrees throughout the course of the day to maximize the energy yield and increase the efficiency of the solar cells, before returning to its original position at night. Bespoke trapezoidal panels composed of highly efficient monocrystalline solar cells, embedded within three layers of glass, provide shade below without casting severe shadows or blocking views to the sky.
Supporting the array is an engineered carbon fibre structure inspired by the design of the steering wheel of a yacht. The structural design maximizes strength in its shape, with radial branches encircled by a compression ring while decreasing the load of the structure itself. Carbon fibre was chosen for its light weight which allows the form to extend unsupported for up to nine meters in all directions.
The E-Trees have become an integral part of both the exhibition and the Pavilion site – showcasing and educating visitors on the research on solar harnessing and panel technology – while at the same time, serving as an integral part of the systems that contributes to a net zero energy goal of the building.

I just rewatched a few girl squad clips from Cris’s season, and if you remember Amira was fasting at the time and they mentioned it quite often and allowed Amira to discuss Ramadan and it’s influence in Islam. I’m just shocked that this fact was mentioned more in Cris’s season than hers and was also very delicately handled whereby there was an open dialogue between the girls and Amira. What happened to that writing?
the more i read this ask the more i think about how eskam knew how to write amira as a supporting character, but not a protagonist. the reason why i was very excited for s4 is bc amira is so much different to any other sana, and the work done with her in s2 with the little moments we get in her head seemed like such a nice way to bring us closer to the character, at the same time that they planted the seeds for conflict on her eventual season. well, i don’t even have to tell you what happened there lol.
and what you say is right. for what is worth, it seemed like ramadan was way more integral to cris’ season than it was in amira’s season. or maybe not that, but it feels like they just missed so many opportunities and at the end simply ignored what ramadan means to amira’s faith, or even the little things like what the lack of sleep/eating could be affecting to amira’s mental health and strength during the hellier weeks. reading posts from muslim people (like @nolabballgirl for example!) it looked like there were so many things about the timing of ramadan that could’ve been used to the writers’ advantage in amira’s season yet were wasted as passing comments or just straight up ignored. the fact that we didn’t get a single acknowledgment of eid is the biggest testament of that. and as many people have already pointed out, why make such a point in writing a season during ramadan if you won’t actually write a season revolving around what ramadan means for a devoted hijabi? even in skam there was an acknowledgment of ramadan’s role in sana’s growth by the end of the season, when yousef tells her on episode 9 that she still has one week to do the right thing. i think the last time ramadan was even mentioned in the show was on episode 5, where kasim tells lucas he’s going back home for the iftar. and even if i missed something on ep 6 or something, ramadan has such a big importance in islam and just dropping it to make space for kasim and dani drama was one of the worst choices of the show (among a bunch of other horrible choices).
#skam españa#answered#i think the question at the end of the ask is so interesting#because it shows that the writing knew how to use amira as an exposition machine for what ramadan is#but completely failed to incorporate that to her character#and those two things can absolutely coexist

Now that Nora's season is coming to end, what are somethings that you want for amira's season
Hi 😁 I bet you thought I’d never reply to this ask! Well, after you sent this in MARCH, I am finally posting an answer.
Btw, I did the same for Nora’s season, and as a note, I’m a white European and an atheist. If any of this is offensive or not my place to say, I preemptively apologize.
1) I would like for Amira's arc not to be about being Muslim. That is, Cris' arc isn't about being bi, it's about learning (and accepting) that she's more than the fun friend. That she has and can offer more to the people in her life. Nora's arc isn't about being a feminist, it's about not being so set in your first impression of someone that you don't notice red flags or don't notice them trying to be better people. Same with Eva and not being defined by her mistakes, or about Viri and her financial situation. And I would like the same for Amira.
2) I think one common denominator of all Sana seasons so far is that they've shown the mains doing something that people assume hijabi can't do when it's more like they're systematically excluded from participating. For Sana, it was basketball. For Imane, it was dancing. For Amira M, it was boxing. I joked on twitter that Amira N's thing should be binging TV shows and eating junk, proving that hijabi are really like anyone else, but on a serious note, I'd like for Amira's thing to be photography (and maybe modeling? since Amira's friend was taking pics of her).
3) A scene where Amira explains how she can be a feminist and a hijabi both, just so we as a society have that scene to point to when the question inevitably comes up again. Seriously, I feel like that's one of the questions I most often see people asking Hajar.
4) I want the association girls to have their own youtube channel. Or at the very least, their own instagram and/or twitter account. I would love for them to post memes punching up about their experiences.
5) I feel like, much like with trans narratives, there's this "acceptable" narrative for hijabi in mainstream society, which is: the character made the decision to cover after coming up with solid reasons to do so. I.e. she made the decision early and can defend it with inarguable rebuttals. It's like women can't be trusted unless they know 150% what they're doing, be it covering, or dating a girl, or going vegan, or any number of things. I really appreciate that Amira started covering just because it felt right, and she's finding meaning in it after the fact. I would like for this to be a thing in her season, that she's still figuring herself out, that she's not already an Islamic scholar.
6) I also think that's what makes her stand apart from the other Sanas. I feel like (maybe with Zoya's exception), none of the other Sanas would entertain a crush on a white guy. They'd have never drunk or flirted (like we know Amira used to do). It's like they're not allowed to fuck up, or can only fuck up in acceptable ways, like engaging in a flirtation with a non Muslim only because they didn't know he wasn't a Muslim, or had booze at home, but it wasn't theirs, etc. I'm hoping that they've made Dani a love interest specifically to explore this idea (and not because they wanted to whitewash a character or give less time to an actor of color).
7) On that note, SKAM Hajar brought up an idea that, because the hijab makes them super visible, hijabi are perceived as ambassadors of Islam, expected to be able to answer any question about Islam, but also that people will judge all Muslims based on whatever mistake they individually make. I would like for a potential bench scene to allow Amira to say that it puts major pressure on her to feel like she can't make any mistake, because every Muslim will be judged based on her making a mistake, having a shitty day, being in a bad mood, not wanting to be Muslim wikipedia that day, etc. That sometimes she just wants to be Amira, not Islam personified.
8) I would like for Dani's character to represent not just white society, but also childhood, the safe choice, the choice her parents would love, and for Sofian's character to represent not just Moroccan culture, but also like... SEXY risk, independence, novelty... Because I feel like when I see Muslim girl/Muslim boy/white guy love triangles in fiction, the Muslim guy is positioned as the boring choice (but still incredibly wrong because he's abusive or maybe even secretly gay and forced to beard by his parents), the safety, the guy you'd bring home to your parents, whereas the white guy represents independence and carving your own path away from your parents.
9) Just once, I would like for a Muslim character to say, "what do you think of Catholic priests abusing kids?" to someone asking them what they think of such-and-such Muslim majority country doing such-and-such to its citizens. Bonus points if it's Sofian's character.
10) I would like for Dilan to get an insta and a storyline. And for that storyline to connect to Amira's.
11) In general, I would prefer that parents be kept to a minimum (not to get rid of them entirely, of course, but to be kept at the level they've been in other Sana seasons). I just have never thought the point of Skam was the parents. And I get why they have a larger presence in a second gen kid, but I, personally, am more interested in what they represent in the main's life, rather than in giving them a lot of face time.
12) And, on that note, if they do with Amira what I've outlined above, I don't think there's a necessity for Amira to have siblings. Particularly if eskam isn't going to continue after this season. I think it'd be far more interesting if Amira's character contained the elements of figuring her identity as a Muslim living in a Western country that Elias, Idriss and Essam had. (And maybe that way Dani is both Yousef and Elias, stealing not just one role for an actor of color, but two! lmao)
13) I really hope that the obligatory evak s4 side plot be kept at a minimum tbh. I'm really not interested in a) Eloy coming back to cause drama, b) Amira's friend causing croana drama because she's Joana ex or whatever, c) a physical fight breaking out because of (perceived) homophobia.
14) I want Amira to tell Cris that amiris es lo más real que hay. 😭 I would love it if, as a parallel to Cris' season, Amira doesn't tell Cris about her interest in Sofian's character at first because she's afraid of her reaction, only for Cris to be supportive of whatever she chooses to do.
15) I would be so fucking happy if eskam adapted the "is your faith stronger than your lust?" scene in this season. I have always wanted to love that scene, because how often do you get a scene where two girls get to talk that long and that much (even in Skam most of the iconic dialogue scenes between just two people aren't between two girls in the squad), but I just haaaated the purpose of the scene in Skam.
16) I would cry buckets if we got a scene like Det Beste fra Islam where Amira and Sofian's character both talk about what Islam means for them. Particularly if Sofian is introduced as not the Perfect Muslim Man, but it turns out he has THOUGHTS about religion.
17) And, finally, I would love for the unquestionable villain of the season to be a white guy. If the villain is going to be a woman, then I would want her to be Cris' mom, not a high school aged character. Not because of white feminism yayyy! but because I think the major issue Sana seasons have run into before is that the showrunners want to touch on white girls being the problem, but they also don't want to villainize white girls. So we have stuff like Sana inviting Sara and Ingrid (of all people!!) to Eid, Imane apologizing to Ingrid (of all people!!), random one clip white women attacking Amira M (and the Kiki/Amira friendship of course), etc. I'd just rather they didn't have girls doing shitty stuff to Amira N, if they're going to go back on it. Which they inevitably would, because eskam's overall message is sisterhood.
Bonus clips
18) I would love it if Skam España was like, "you thought we were dropping storylines left and right? Nope!" and resolved long standing mysteries like who was behind Eva's hate ig, who had the pills, who outed Cris to the school, who's the owner of the keys that were left behind at GSC, and so on. Will die if it turns out to be Ramón!
19) I want Joana to get that job she wanted so bad last season!
20) I would love for Emma to show up and come out as a lesbian, just as a last hurrah lol.
21) I don't feel strongly about which couples should be endgame and not (other than not Dani/Amira hghvvh please), BUT in my most embarrassing fantasies, I want Skam España to hire Alejandro Reina's irl boyfriend to play Lucas' boyfriend for the finale. Not because I can't separate fiction from reality or anything, but because when I thought Lucas would be getting a season, I wanted his boyfriend to be a poc, and I was highkey buttmad that they hired random white bread when they could just as easily have hired a poc.
22) I think it would be really cool if Inés got a clip on her POV, but I don't think we're going to get it. I think all bonus clips will be from the squad's POV, i.e. Eva, Cris, Nora and Viri. Not even Joana.
23) I want a Mallorca special or episode so bad, and I will be so FUCKING ANNOYED if we don't get it. Seriously, I can't imagine the team didn't feel betrayed when they watched Skam for writing purposes, and didn't get their russetide. So they should know how angry we would be if we didn't get even a little bit of Mallorca time.
#ask#skam españa#I am literally unable to be concise it's just not in my blood#long post#comicluke#I used to always say that I wanted them to feature the m-30 mosque in amira's season#and they're doing that!! so yay!
