The journal page include in a 1990 journal containing the Gilbert Grape 1995 margin note at the bottom of the page that was cited in the previous blog.

The margin notes also includes quotes from Aristotle and a bumper sticker and the cover of the August 1990 Reader’s Digest.

Along the left side of the page I wrote

“every life is replete with Da Da”

Dada poetry embraces nonsense, irrationality, and intuition. Per the Poetry Foundation. I think I was trying to show the Dada feel to 1990 on the journal page.

The name Large Old Cup was chosen in the style of Dada poetry as referenced in the above excerpt from renowned Dada artist Tristan Tzara.

I went to a random word generator and clicked the button three times.

Dada art always struck me. I love the glorification of the nonsensical and absurd. If that’s not life then I don’t know what is. We’re born into a world of chaos, we try to make sense of it while we’re alive, and then we die without marking any significant change in it. So what’s the point, right?

Exactly.
