[ Miguel O'Hara x Wife! Reader ]
synopsis: you offer your husband his favorite way of de-stressing
warnings: nsfw, sorta wholesome, suggestive themes, un-translated spanish (lmk if I made mistakes though; still learning, lmao)
words: 748
a/n: I think we can all agree it would be quite wonderful to be Miguel's personal chew-toy, no? :D
“Miguel-”
“Tranquila, cariño.” (Quiet, honey)
A soft gasp left your lips as your husband, once again, sunk his sharp fangs deep into your shoulder. Your lips parted as a gentle moan slipped past them, causing your cheeks to flush red with embarrassment. Miguel’s smirk could be felt against your soft skin, a low chuckle rumbling throughout his broad chest. Once his fangs had retracted back, he made sure to lick and kiss the puncture wound gently, reveling in the sounds you provided for him all the while.
A shudder racked through your body at the sensation of his tongue dragging along the sensitive skin of your shoulder. Your body was reacting to him in all the ways he desired. Miguel leaned back to admire you momentarily, examining the state he had reduced you to with a proud gleam in those handsome eyes you’d come to adore.
You were naked beneath him, skin seemingly shining whenever the moonlight found its way through the protective black-out curtains covering the window; shielding the outside world from your current predicament. Your hair was slightly disheveled, chest rising and falling in an almost erratic pattern due to his assault on you with his fangs. The wetness and bodily residue clinging to your inner thighs was a reminder of how much his actions were truly turning you on, as well as the occasional pang of soreness that you felt as a result of your earlier intimate activities together; before you’d offered to let him mark up your body the way you knew him to like.
Miguel, despite also being naked himself at the moment, was focusing all of his undivided attention on pleasuring his wife, rather than attempting to give himself the same treatment. The both of you had engaged in sex before he had resorted to marking you. In a way, this was his side of the pleasure; seeing you all covered up by bites he knew to be his own. The marks and various hickies adorned your skin in rampant numbers; on your thighs, breasts, neck, shoulders, everything. You were basically a walking representation of his roughness in bed, yet also his affection; it was something you wore like a badge.
It had been your idea anyway; your plan to get him into bed and out of his workspace for a while, since you swore he never slept unless you forced him to. You had offered to let him mark up your body however he pleased; it was the one thing you knew to be a true motivator for your husband. He’d expressed before to you how much it helped calm him down; lessen his irritation with everyone and everything, just getting to kiss and bite along his wife’s skin for a while. In regard to this, it had come to be a more common thing amongst the nights you two were able to spend together, when he wasn’t out being busy.
And everytime, you loved how he made you feel.
Secure.
Wanted.
Desired.
Your body trembled slightly under his intimidating gaze, those deep brown eyes swirling with hues of red in response to your current state of being. A soft smirk tugged at his lips, exposing his sharp fangs to you. His own heart felt like it might burst free from his rib cage just looking at you; you were the most precious thing he had ever had the honor of sinking his fangs into.
"Eres tan hermosa así, amor." (You are so beautiful like this, love) he huffed, voice almost at a low growl now. It was enough to make your core throb.
The ghost of a whine caught in your throat as he leaned closer to you again, this time lodging his fangs slowly into your neck, being mindful as to not hurt you, but wanting to take all you had to offer.
Spending this time together meant the world to both him and you. A time to let loose and show your true passions for each other through Miguel’s territorial behaviors that many others would consider possessive, but you found extremely hot and honestly, endearing. Getting to renew his claim on you was something he could never possibly get tired of.
“That's it, pretty girl. So good for me, aren’t you?” He growled, as your hands then shot up to grab fistfuls of his hair, earning you a low groan from the behemoth of a man atop you. When Miguel started to growl, it was a clear sign throughout your years of marriage that he was starting to get worked up.
And it also meant that you were in for yet another long night.

CHAPTER 7 — sexy goth jellyfish.
YOU DON’T THINK YOU’LL EVER GET SICK OF WAKING UP AND GETTING LULLED BACK TO SLEEP BY THE MOST COMFORTABLE MATTRESS IN THE WORLD. Seriously. You’re considering hoarding it back to your dorm once you leave at the end of the month.
It’s the best thing about this house. The second best thing is having your breakfast cereal already laid out for you in the kitchen the moment you step downstairs. This princess treatment is going to get you spoiled.
The odd thing about today, however, is that your usual bowl of Cheerios is nowhere in sight.
You rub your eyes, proceeding to squint at the counter because maybe you just aren’t awake enough yet. But it’s still not there. You look over to the sink. There is no evidence that someone ate your cereal. What happened? Did your cereal robot sleep in today? Did he die? Are you gonna have to make your own bowl of cereal from now on?
“Good morning.”
Sunghoon greets you upon walking into the living room, cereal-less and still groggy. Beomgyu is also there, cross legged on the couch and playing something on his phone. “Good—” you greet back, scratching your hand underneath your shirt with a big yawn, “—morning.” For some reason, Sunghoon suddenly looks scandalized. You ignore it and stretch out your arms above your head with another yawn.
“Please— oh my god, please don’t do that. I can see your un—underwear.”
You pause mid-stretch, arms up in the air, shirt hiking up a little. “What color?” you ask.
“Grey! Why would you ask me that?!”
“Ooh, correct.” You drop your arms down. “I thought you were kidding. Sorry, my bad.”
You grin and shoot them a peace sign. “Sunghoon, go get the PD&J,” Beomgyu announces, eyes not leaving his phone. Your expression quickly moltens into a glare and a grimace. Dammit, you’ve been careful all this time. You blame your lack of early cereal nutrients for this carelessness.
“I’ll pay later,” you grunt. “Anway, where’s Jay? He didn’t make my cereal today so I’m assuming the worst.”
“Is he your slave?” you hear Beomgyu retort. You’ll deal with him later.
Thankfully, Sunghoon is normal(?) and answers your question promptly. “Out on the deck,” he tells you, and you look over to the open glass doors past your dining setup leading up to the sunlit deck outside. You squint, unable to spot a life form of any sort at first, but after a moment of letting your eyes wander, you finally see it.
Jay is laying flat on the wooden floor, shades on, facing directly at the sun. “What’s up with him?” you ask Sunghoon. There are pieces of paper with unidentifiable contents scattered around the motionless man. You fear he might be actually dead.
“He’s photosynthesizing,” he replies. You should’ve known better than to expect a correct answer.
“He’s not a plant,” you scrunch your nose. “It’s past nine. He’s not getting any more vitamin D at this hour.”
Sunghoon simply shrugs and Beomgyu is still busy yelling profanities at his phone. You sigh. Time to take care of things yourself, so saunter over to Jay’s tanning bed and crouch down near his head, arms crossed. Is he asleep? you furrow your brows and peer down a little closer. His pitch black sunglasses are making it impossible to tell.
“Wow. This is the first time I’ve seen you upside down.”
And he’s alive.
“Hey,” you call out. “What are you doing?”
Jay has his hands symmetrically placed on his abdomen, and he remains unmoving when he opens his mouth to reply. “Brooding,” he says, and you are granted more questions than answers.
“Don’t people usually do that in the dark?”
“I don’t conform to society’s standards.” Jay sits up, so you lean back. You watch him as he adjusts the shades on his nose bridge, ruffles his hair as if there’s a camera pointed at him, then says, “I’m absolutely fucked. I don’t know what to do.”
Woah, there. Looks like Mr. Easygoing is going through some troubled waters.
“Alright.” You shuffle out of your crouching position, dropping to paneled wood to cross your legs for a more comfortable position. “Lay it on me,” you announce, ready to sunbathe and hear a very very long story.
Jay stares at you. There’s a wrinkle between his brows.
“Go ahead.” You nod decidedly.
After another pause, Jay shrugs and sets his head down on your crossed legs, laying back down but with you as his new pillow. That’s not what you meant, but you roll with it. This is an opportunity to braid knots his hair. “So I took a summer class, right,” he starts, and you dig your fingers into the dark strands. “Women’s wear design. Thought It’d be useful for androgynous clothing ideas, but anyway.”
Wow, it’s so soft, you think, finishing a single braid. “And then?”
“Well. For our final project, we need to have a live model to wear our design prototypes. To test their functionality and all. A friend of mine already agreed a few weeks ago, but she suddenly canceled yesterday, so I’m pretty sure I’m fucked.”
His hair slips out of your fingers. The gears in your brain start to churn. “When’s the presentation?”
“Tomorrow.”
“Have you asked someone else?”
“Yeah. I’ve already tried calling everyone I know.”
“And?”
“I ran out of people,” he says. “I’m screwed, right?”
“I feel like there’s more to this.”
A third voice suddenly pops up and you flinch. “Holy shit,” you turn to see Heeseung sitting next to you. He looks like he’s been there for a while and you make your surprise very evident by how wide your eyes are staring at him. Jay props up, also looking at him. “When did you get here?”
Heeseung ignores you. “Jay,” he starts. You’re gonna get back at him for that. “What did you tell Eunmi when you asked for her help for the project?”
Eunmi is a familiar name. You’re pretty sure she’s the one that stormed out of the house the other day. “I told her that I had a problem and asked if she could do me a favor.
Your brows knit together. Wait a minute. “And what else did you say?”
“I also asked if she didn’t mind taking her clothes off,” he says. “Why?”
Silence sets in. It simmers for a while. You and Heeseung share a look. “Jay,” you call out. He gets off of your lap and sits up, turning to face you. You press your lips together. How do you break it to him?
“Dude, I’m pretty sure she thought you were asking to hook up.”
You double over and nearly let out a gasp. So the mysophobe isn’t hasn’t completely eroded his social awareness. You are both horrified and impressed, and he’s looking at you like he can hear your thoughts, visibly offended.
“Heeseung’s right. Girlie probably thought you’d be using your measuring tape for something else outside of measuring.” They both give you a look. Maybe you gave Heeseung too much credit. “What? After measuring her tits and ass, imagine her disappointment when you went off to measure her ankles next.”
“Well, I’m a fashion major, what did she expect?”
“I don’t know, maybe some dressmaker-themed BDSM shit!” you huff. “Don’t you know you know anyone else that can model for you?”
“I’m pretty sure all the girls in his contacts have him blocked,” Heeseung says.
You grunt and lean back, the deck warm on your palms. “Okay. I didn’t want to do this, but—” You sigh. Your shoulders slack, and you run your fingers through your scalp with a deep inhale. Jay and Heeseung nudge themselves closer. You give them three more seconds of suspenseful silence— one…two…three.
“But we don’t have much of a choice.”
His dumb sunglasses are still keeping his eyes hidden, but you’re pretty sure Jay is looking at you like you’re the second coming of Christ. On the other hand, Heeseung looks suspicious. You assure them that you’ll take care of, telling Jay to go upstairs and prepare his design prototype in case he needs to make any alterations, and Heeseung follows you to the living room, where Sunghoon and Beomgyu are still lounging around.
They turn their heads the moment you enter. Sunghoon and Heeseung’s eyes are trained on you as you approach Beomgyu, who has now settled down his phone to give you a disgruntled expression— impatient and nervous because, “what the fuck are you up to this time?” he voices out. You spare him an extra second of agony and tell him what you came for.
When the words leave your mouth, Beomgyu nearly chokes on the air.
“I’m sorry, what?”
His eyes are wide, looking up at you.
“What did you just say?”
“I asked if you can pretend to be a woman for a day,” you repeat. Beomgyu is looking at you like you’re insane.
“What the fuck?”
“C’mon!” you exclaim, hopping down on the plush sofa cushion next to him and he jumps and flinches away. There’s a reason why you adore fucking with Beomgyu the most. “It’ll only be for a day! Do it for Jay! Whoa. That rhymes.”
“Why me?!” he shrieks. The reason is he fights back. He makes it all the more satisfying when he inevitably admits defeat.
“Because you’re arguably the prettiest one of the lot!” You bounce closer, trapping his between the armrest and your enthusiasm to see him in a fucking dress. “Have I ever told you that your eyes are like, really, really pretty? And your facial structure is already so nice and elegant, I really don’t need to do anything with makeup, you’re already perfect!”
With each word you utter and with each centimeter you lean closer, Beomgyu’s face gets increasingly redder and brighter. “Your— your flattery won’t convince me to fucking cross dress in public, you psychos!”
Before you can get the chance to say ‘so you don’t mind doing it in private?’ Beomgyu tries pushing you off, but he’s too flustered to put any strength in. The opportunity to grab his wrists and pull him closer simply just presents itself. “C’mon!” you tug him in. “Swallow the toxic masculinity, Beomgyu! I believe in you!”
“No!”
He manages to roll off the sofa and retreat to his room. As Beomgyu’s heavy and hasty footsteps fill the air, the sound growing weaker by the second, you turn over to Sunghoon, who is sitting on the individual seat. He meets your eyes. “No,” he says before you could open your mouth. “Absolutely not.”
Sunghoon doesn’t waste a second to get up and follow Beomgyu’s escape pattern. “Sunghoon! Sunghoon, wait!” you yell after him. When he pads up the stairs, you stop at the bottom of the flight and watch as he scurries up the floor. “Are you upset that you’re the second choice? That doesn’t mean anything! You’re pretty too! I love your nose and your pretty face moles and—”
And he is gone. You turn back. “Well, I tried,” you shrug. Heeseung is wearing an expression you can only describe as severe perturbation. “Soobin and Jake aren’t home. That’s a bummer.” Then again, Jake would probably be down for it, which is no fun. And you can’t risk making Soobin cry again. Your list of crimes is already long enough. Beomgyu has the copy.
“Of all the solutions you could come up with, I didn't think you’d go for the crossdressing route.”
Heeseung is leaning against the sofa, arms resting on top of its plush back. “Actually, I never even considered it,” he adds. “I thought you’d volunteer to model for him yourself.”
You make your way back to the living area with a yawn. Shrugging, you say, “I am.”
His brows scrunch, eyes narrowed. “Then why did you—” Heeseung stops thinking. He gives you a look of distaste. “You’re pretty evil, you know that?”
A laugh escapes your lips, and you hop on the couch Heeseung is leaning again. He visibly flinches when you do, but he doesn’t move away. So you sit up with your legs still on the sofa, knees sinking into the cushions, and you poke your nose forward so that it nearly bumps into his.
“What are you—”
You inch your face closer. “It’s not my fault that you guys are easy targets.” You can literally hear his breath getting taken away. You flash him a wide grin.
“Calm down. I’m moving away, moving away. No need to run.” When you flop back to lie on the sofa, Heeseung’s pink-tinted face is in full view, and he’s trying his best to hide it from you all while still trying to shoot you a glare. At some point he’s going to snap at you, for sure. Until that happens, you’re free to mess with him. “Anyway, I’ll be off to Jay’s secret lair. That is unless you man up and take one for the team, and—”
“Bye.”
Like the other two, Heeseung stomps away. You let out a huff of air. “You’re all weak as shit,” you call out. Maybe one day you’ll get the chance to give one of them a makeover. Maybe one day you can paint their nails and do their eyeliner.
Jay can’t express just how grateful he is for you.
No, really. He can’t. He tried telling you that he owes you his life when you told him not to worry about it and just go upstairs and prepare his things, but all that jumped out of his mouth is a measly, “you’re so cool,” before leaving you with Heeseung.
That won’t do it. He’s gonna say thank you and a million more once you show up in the storage room-turned-office-slash-workspace next to his bedroom, and you’re going to be so impressed by his thanking skills. But the feeling is all muffled and fuzzy inside his chest— like a way too stubborn hairball he can’t cough out. So when you knock on his door and take a peek inside the extension of his room, all he can say is, “I made the carpet. Pretty cool, right?”
“Oh!”
Jay watches as you crouch down almost immediately upon his mention, feeling the mishmas of fabric texture with your palms. Your hands are running through a patch of faux fur, stitched to some leftover corduroy. You’re stepping on denim, and in between you and him is a large swab of linen. “Holy shit. This is pretty cool.”
There’s a thump in his chest. He’s pretty sure you’re the first person to say that after the other dozen people that have been here before you.
Then again, Jay’s pretty sure you’re the first for him on a lot of things.
He fears the hairball lodged in his throat just multiplied.
“So.” You pull yourself up from the ground. “What are we doing?”
“Oh,” he blinks. “Let me show you the clothes first. It’s a dress. It may not look like one, but trust me it is a dress—” he quickly explains, walking over to the mannequin in the corner of the room, pulling it out from the corner with a bit of a struggle because the wheels get caught in the stringy fabric of his carpet. “You can try it on, but it’s made with Eunmi’s measurements. Tell me if anything doesn’t fit right so I can alter it.”
“Holy shit,” you breathe out. “Hey, I may make fun of you guys a lot, but this time I’m being serious— this is so cool! What the hell, Jay?”
Well, that was a surprise. He didn’t think you’d like wearing something so avant garde. After Eunmi’s reaction to seeing it, he was pretty sure you’d be hesitant. “This will swallow my entire figure! I’d look like a jellyfish! You know what, I was already disappointed when you suddenly started jotting down my arm width. I’m going home. Don’t call me,” was what she said before storming off. But you’re all ooh’s and aah’s as you dig your nose into the thin sheets of intricately sewn on sheer, black fabric.
“I was also serious about the carpet. Hold on let me try this on—”
You struggle taking the dress off of the mannequin. Jay helps you out. “You can change in my room.”
“Gotchu,” you shoot him a thumbs up, running off to the door with the dress flowing in your hands. “Don’t you dare peek. I don’t have any more spare change to throw into that stupid jar.”
“What if I pay for you?”
“Great. Door’s unlocked. Open if you have the balls.” Then you close the door with a still thinly open gap. It’s really is easy to talk to you. You don’t give him a weird look after he says a few words. He can hear your swearing slipping out of the crack in the door. Maybe he should have left you to fend for yourself against his admittedly unconventionally constructed dress.
“Need any help?” he asks, hesitantly inching towards the door.
“I can handle it— fuck, wait, where is my neck supposed to—”
After hearing a thump from inside the room, Jay believes he might have to intervene, else it’ll end up with either a torn ligament or a torn three month long project. He lands a knock on the door. “I think you need my help.”
“Give me a minute! I got this!” A minute. He starts counting down from sixty. And mentally counting down in nothing but silence and the occasional profanities from the other room is giving him some time to think. To think about how even though he’s gone through numerous dates, talked to numerous women, but for some reason they never last long. Well, all except you. You and his mother.
He’s lost count of the times he’s been ghosted (a ghost dress does sound like a pretty good idea), but the times they do communicate— they all communicate with a very familiar script:
“Maybe we should start seeing other people.”
Maybe his bonfire joke wasn’t as funny as he thought.
“Hey, Jay, is it supposed to look like this?” you call out before his sixty second countdown is over. “I think I’m wearing it wrong.”
When he opens the room to his door with a creak, his breath hitches in his throat.
And it’s not the metaphorical hairball that’s been annoying him. Shit. Something about seeing you in a design he’s crafted with his own hands, conjured up with his own brain, is tying all sorts of knots in his stomach. Even when you put your arm in the wrong hole.
“You’re wearing it wrong.” Jay walks up to you next to the bed. The clothes you’ve shedded on in lieu of the dress he made is scattered on his mattress. He swallows hard before laying a discreet hand on your shoulder, tugging on a loose part of the clothing to reveal the armhole.
“Oh! That explains a lot,” you say, slotting in your arm into the correct gap this time. The dress still looks a little off. “I haven’t zipped it up yet. Can you help me?”
He lets out a cough. “Sure.”
Ah, what is going on with him? He’s been sleeping in this same room for nearly a year now, but for some reason the air right now is arid and stuffy and it’s making his head spin. Jay turns you around, a hand on your hip, and zips up the dress that suddenly feels like fire. That doesn’t make sense. It’s supposed to mimic water. Why the hell are his palms burning?
The moment the dress is secured, you quickly look into the mirror. “What...what do you think?” he asks hesitantly. Maybe you don’t like it as much anymore now that it’s on you. Maybe the dress is also burning you. Maybe this design is a failure after all— and he feels that fear being confirmed when your back is turned towards him, and you spend a good minute looking at yourself in the mirror in silence.
Dammit. The damned hairball is back in his lungs.
“I feel…” you start talking. His heart is pounding. Holy shit, he’s never felt this nervous before. “I feel like a sexy goth jellyfish. This is crazy. I love it.”
And just like that, air starts flowing back into his chest.
“Exactly!”
He grabs you by the arm, spinning you around so he can look at you, and the dress fabric flitters along in the air. “Whoa!” you squeak out. He steadies you by the arms. You look at him, wide eyed.
Jay breath’s are bated. The sunglasses he’s got perched on his nose this entire time got crooked from the rush, falling down to the tip of his nose, revealing a look on his eyes that he didn’t know he was capable of making. “You get me,” he breathes out. “You totally get me.”
Something swirls inside the confines of his room. It’s dark. The only light coming in is from the crack into his office and the warm bedside lamp you turned on.
The both of you stay like this for a moment. Until there’s a knock on his door and a voice rips through all of the tension.
“Okay, fine!”
It’s Beomgyu’s voice entering the room along with the sound of the door swinging open.
Creak!
“Fucking fine, I’m going to do it. I’m going to do it as long as—”
It’s not just him. Heeseung and Sunghoon are also there, squeezed between the frame of his now open door. “Oh,” someone says out loud. He’s unsure who. “Oh.”
Somehow, Jay isn’t feeling your arms anymore. He blinks, and you’re not in front of him anymore. He turns his head and sees you in between him and the three other guys outside. “Are you ready to become a sexy jellyfish, Beomgyu?” you taunt, moving further away from him by the second.
Beomgyu looks at him. Then you. Then keeps his eyes on you. “I never said anything. I’m gonna go—”
“C’mon! Don’t I look great? You’d look just as— no, maybe even prettier than me if you wear— wait!”
And just like that you and his dress project run away from the room. Sunghoon’s head whips back and forth between him and wherever you’ve run off to before going after you and Beomgyu as well. Heeseung stays, albeit out the door. “So, did it go well?” he asks. Jay is still staring at the spot where you’d left.
“It went well,” he replies. “I think I’m gonna get a good grade.”
Well that’s not the only conclusion he’s come up with after all that. In spite of the loud noises, the yelling outside, and the threat of his dress getting ripped apart in the crossfire, he’s sure of two things. He is not only sure that he’s gonna ace this final summer project— Jay is sure that he might have just half fallen in love with you, too.

(reblogs are greatly appreciated, it helps get my content out there! if you guys like what you see, please reblog it too <:D)
since you silly little pooks are down bad little gremlins,
make sure to look him in the eye when he's talking to you.
summary: you made a grave mistake, directly disobeying orders from the big man himself, miguel o'hara, and endangering him and the rest of your team on a mission. thank goodness it was just his suit that suffered the damage, but you and him have a lot to talk about. alone. you know, if you wanted to be a little brat... you should just tell him straight up, but you can't even look at him right now. it's very disrespectful not to look at someone in the eye when they're talking to you, y'know?
word count: 2,541
warnings: slight degredation (nothing too bad, just a lot of reminding you about what you did was stupid), mentions of scars and wounds, slight cursing, and bad spanish translation (please correct me if i'm wrong!)
"tú… vas a ser mi muerte." he said in a low voice, a complete octave lower than the voice he used to scream orders at you to fall back, not to head straight first for the villain; but of course, spiders your type were never one to listen.
an annoying little maggot, that was miguel's assessment of you since the very minute you set foot in this facility. every mission that ever went south was due to you and your hubris, your incompetence, your need to flaunt your bravado in combat. you were lucky he put off kicking you out and cutting off all your connection to everyone at HQ, because you were a hair's length away from overstepping the very boundary of staying in this elite force of spider people to finding yourself disgraced from them.
you always gloated your strength, how many villains you took down in your universe, and were loud and rowdy. trying to break into your place in the spider society, you felt, was one of the easiest things to do. just make friends, punch the bad guys, and then the rest comes easy. but the reality of it was far from what you imagined, it was... seriously not what you imagined.
"i couldn't understand a single thought that entered that head of yours as we were fighting." miguel scolded you in a strained voice as he was being patched up by his machinery. the side of his face was bloodied, it would leave scars, but none that noticeable. his knitted eyebrows and piercing brown turning red eyes were fixated upon you and your hunched over, insecure, shrinking figure as you felt him diminish every ounce of your self-confidence bit by bit.
he sighed in exhaustion as he flinched at the treatment of his machineries, shaking his head slowly as he massaged his temples slowly, wishing that the frustration you gave him from your pathetic stunt would just disappear. but the pain never eased, instead, it merely intensified; he grunted as the machineries patched him up, the nanofibers of his suit dissipated as you watched splotches of his bronze, tanned skin emerge from the once dark blue and red patches of his suit.
you couldn't help but watch as the suit glitched slightly as it went away, disappearing into nothingness as his flesh wounds were being patched up. "tan jodidamente estúpida. so... so fucking stupid." he muttered out as he released a string of grunts from his soft, caramel lips as lyla adjusted the settings of the machinery as they patched him up.
"do you not value your own life?" he asked out with a low voice, as if he didn't care what answer escaped the confines of your lips, whatever words formed out of your mouth, as long as you spoke, he'd find something, anything, to retort to your argument--to prove you did a stupid, stupid thing. and that you were so stupid for not listening to him.
you opened your mouth slightly ajar to speak, to utter even a single word; to release a single sound from your vocal cords... but nothing. your throat as dry as an abandoned well, as dry as a vast, sandy desert, as an unirrigated field that once bore fresh crops.
you had nothing when he peered at you from above like this, glowering over you and penetrating your once keen and eager to fool around facade, whittling you down to nothingness.
"what? not gonna say anything?" he asked, his voice a little louder and more composed now as the healing process began and mended at the worn and torn muscles on his beautifully sculpted figure. he slowly stood up, his legs quaking slightly as he tried to carry himself up. he lost his balance for a few seconds and clung on to his desk to support himself. his breathing was labored, his nostrils were flared; he was pained and furious.
you felt a shiver crawl up your spine as he turned to face you, a good portion of the mesh fabric on the left side of his body was completely dissipated, the cuts inflicted on the suit turned white and glitched out, spasming, distorting the image on his body. miguel noticed you were staring and tried to hide the limping of his leg as he strut over to you, his left leg being pushed off the ground faster than his right.
you felt a wave of shame engulf you, reminding you that this very man almost sacrificed himself to save you while you seemed like a very cute spider to skin for the villain you faced off not long ago, who you provoked and brought your team to their attention, endangering all of you. he fought them off as best as he could, but he was continually on the receiving end of the blows and punches the villain reserved for the rogue little spider that weaved a web too obvious for its prey to fly into.
you didn't listen to miguel when he told you to--
"i told you to stay put," he admonished you in an irrefutably strained voice that he tried his hardest to mask with anger, or irritation. he didn't like to be looked upon as weak, as pitiful, and he sure as hell wasn't going to show that side of him to you of all people. never, in a million years, ever.
he grabbed your cheeks as he noticed your downcasted gaze and angled your face up to gaze into his now red eyes. "weren't you ever taught to look people in the eye when they're talking to you?" he questioned you for your seemingly rude demeanor as he tightened his grip on your cheeks, insinuating that he was quite irked with how, not only did you risk his and everyone else's lives on your team, but you dare disrespect him in his own office while he was already limping--suffering the repercussions of your own hasty decisions.
miguel breathed in deeply, his chest expanding as he took in that deep breath. he shut his eyes to collect himself so as not to let his frustration explode all over you right then and there. he was ready to burst at you, burst at you and let you feel everything he's been holding in from you for the longest time. it drives him mad knowing he's let you provoke him all you want, all the time. he wants to get his control over brats like you back, and if it has to be through this way... so be it.
he squeezed your cheeks, his grip tightening with every breath you took, moving your eyes so as not to look at him, so as not to be so frightened of him. "you're a damn brat, you know that?" he whispered as he moved his face closer to yours, his suit dissipating bit by bit the closer to you he got. he didn't seem like he had any intention of moving back, he was just keen on looking at you right in the eye and forcing you to look back at him, to acknowledge him and respect him for once.
"i-i know," you stutter out, swallowing the lump in your throat. your breath hitched in your throat as you felt the pad of his thumb brush over your cheek and let out a ragged breath, which felt hot on your face. "go on." miguel commanded you as he let go, pulling away from you.
you hesitated for a moment as miguel stepped back, his wide back now facing yours. a small triangular view of his bronze hued skin, and you noticed... he had an assortment of freckles dotting his back, down to the back of his forearm.
he looked absolutely breathtaking, even clad in the mesh fabric suit, even with the mask sheathing his angular face from the world; he was a sight to behold. you hated yourself so much for admiring him when all he can think of was the stupid stunt you pulled trying to show off.
miguel's head turned around yet again to catch you peeking at the flesh showing from the tears on the suit. he scowled. "i told you to keep talking, not to keep gawking." he reprimanded you as he turned his head back around and shook his head, muttering yet another curse word in spanish.
you cleared your throat, trying to collect your thoughts. "i know, i'm... a brat, and i'm sorry i endangered you all." you spoke in two breaths, hoping to get the heart of your thoughts across, trying to hold back from him the fear you had of him at that very moment. honestly, you were always scared of miguel, always afraid that if you pushed him off the edge... it wouldn't be him who'd fall. he'd hold on to your mistake and pull you down in his place.
that was your biggest fear; the fear of him hurting you, forgetting you, abandoning you and starting from scratch with a new recruit, a better recruit. one who didn't talk smack all the time behind his back, one who followed protocols and didn't steal equipment for joyrides to other earths, one who didn't travel to other earths to screw around--one who followed orders and didn't do things their own way, which would jeopardize not only themselves, but the rest of the elite members of the multiverse's sole defenders.
someone who would listen to him and look at him in the eye when he spoke.
"be honest," he began as lyla fixed up the glitchy parts of his suit as he pinched the bridge of his nose with shut eyes and a hung head, his eyebrows furrowing in the middle as he tried to keep himself composed, "do you think you know what you're doing here?" he asked in a deep, contemplative voice as the suit glitched out even more, despite the ai's best efforts to fix it, the glitching worsened.
"oh, genial." miguel uttered as he sighed again. the villain must've been a real wise guy to know how to mess with such hard to break nanotechnology and mesh fabric that not even miguel himself could pierce or cut through. "ok, uh, not to interrupt your sermon, but you need to take it off. completely." lyla said as she ran a diagnostics protocol on the suit to check what was salvageable on it.
miguel stared at the ai incredulously. "no, keep it on, it's fine." he muttered as he turned to face you, his right pectoral muscle showing just the slightest bit. his suit phasing in and out of functionality as he placed his hands on his waist, staring at you as you abruptly looked away. he raised an eyebrow and eyed you up and down. "why so shy now? you were running your big mouth earlier in combat, why stop now?"
you tried to speak again, but all that came out were unintelligible mumble with the words, "seeing you like this" being repeated over and over and over again. miguel sighed and sauntered over to you and grabbed your cheeks again, this time, more roughly.
"i've had it up to here with your shitty attitude towards me." he said as his eyes narrowed at you, his eyebrows nearly forming into one angry, furry unibrow as he tried to maintain eye contact with you. your eyes wandered down past his neck, to his now semi-exposed collarbone, all the way to his rib area; his right rib's flesh being exposed now as the suit dissipated after continually glitching.
"why are you so insistent upon staring at the absolute wreck my suit is now because of your actions?" he huffed as he angled your face up to look at him, leaning closer and closer towards you as you were now inches away from his face. he snarled for a split second, and you watched as his fangs were bared for that small moment.
"you... need to be taught proper manners." he scolded you as his nose brushed over yours, causing you to shudder; the hairs on the back of your neck stood up as miguel fixated his now glowing, scarlet eyes upon your own. "listen to me, very. carefully." he said as his claws slowly dug into the flesh of your cheeks, grazing you slightly as he brushed the pads of his fingers upon your cheeks and chin.
"you better remember to... look at me when i'm talking to you, understand?" he emphasized as he spoke in a low, low voice, the rest of his suit vanishing as the glitching worsened, his left pectoral muscle now revealing itself, down to his abdominal area, where you noticed his sculptured muscles and scars from the fights. the newly emerged wounds from the battle you botched remained on his skin's surface, noticeable still due to having been fresh a few minutes ago.
he scoffed as he noticed your breathing became labored. he let you go when you mewled at his claws digging deeper into the fat of your cheeks. "i'm... sorry." you uttered as you finally looked up at him. he clicked his tongue as he let you go. "you're lucky i'm too weak to do anything to you right now." he said in a calmer manner as you rubbed over where he grazed upon you.
he turned his head to look at you from over his shoulder and his expression softened the tiniest bit when he watched tears well up in your eyes.
"...i'm sorry, too." he murmured as he finally took off the suit and sat back in his chair, in dark navy shorts.
your eyes wandered down to his toned, tanned calves and thighs, how every bit of him seemed so detailed and sculpted; as if he was exerting force and effort upon every muscle in everything he did. "you have a tendency to run your mouth off and not look before you leap when you're feeling hella cocky, but when you're cornered... you shut up immediately and start staring like a hawk." he pointed out, rather sarcastically.
he stretched his leg a little, wincing at the pain. his grunts were guttural as you noticed the slight limp in how the leg was resting. you got up and looked at his poor leg. "what, staring at me at a distance half-naked isn't enough for you?" he asked, deadpanned.
"i could, um... try easing the pain for you." you offered as you meekly pointed to his leg. he threw his head back and sighed deeply, his chest rising and falling as he did. he looked at you lazily and raised an eyebrow. "is that to make up for all the headaches and migraines you give me?" he asked.
you nodded profusely and he planted his face in his palm, chuckling a little to himself. he looked up at you, gradually, and a small smirk curved upon his lips. he shrugged. "alright, work your magic." he said as he leaned back. "if you fuck me over again, i will kick you out, though." he warned, to which you grinned at.
maybe... you'd keep being a little brat to him, if it meant you could see him this way, and... touch him this way.

Cat!max who couldn’t help his natural reaction to being around his dad, because even though he seems to believe that how he was treated when he was young was good for him, some part of his brain knew that it hurt when he got hit or yelled at, and so naturally sometimes he couldn’t help it, his subconscious reaction to his dad coming close to him was for his ears to go flat agains his head and for him to hiss, an angry growl coming out of his throat. This naturally always lead to a really angry Jos, and that never went well for max (not sure if you’re comfortable talking about it, but we know if Jos got that angry he WOULD get physical. He’s literally been arrested for domestic abuse).
So with his new Dom, the Dom who actually treats him right, he’s naturally wary. He hasn’t been treated well in the past, but maybe some part of him could tell that you were better so the hissing, growling, none of that happened? Which was maybe part of the reason why max could tell that some part of him trusted you. But then one day he comes home from dinner with his dad, and he’s clearly upset and angry and traumatised, and when his Dom tries to reach out to comfort him, he can’t help it. Because every time he’s near his father or Jos scolds him or yells at him, he just feels like that little kitten again who just wanted his dad to approve of what he did and just wanted a hug. So when his son reaches for him, max freezes, anger written all over his face, and lets out an angry hiss, his lightly tan cat ears pressed flat back against his head, an angry yowl escaping him. And then the moment she recoils, because what else is she going to do, max realises what he just did and he throws himself onto his knees and wraps his arms around her legs and begs for her to punish him. To spank him, edge him, put his cock in a cage, anything. He’ll take any kind of punishment to make up for what he just did.
And I can’t think of the rest of this I’m sorry, it was just floating around my head. I have therapy in an hour and I’m still in bed lol.
-💍
Holy fucking shit I ADORE this. We need to talk more about the hybrid!au in general, but cat!max? Oh my god I love it. This is incredible. 10/10. I also made this a mix of the hybrid and d/s au, since you mentioned Doms, so this is now tagged as the 'hybrid d/s au and I would LOVE for us to discuss this au more.
Over time, his dad just accepted that max was a hissy cat hybrid and worked around it, assuming that max's reaction was ridiculous and meant nothing. Max would still hiss and flatten his ears, even swiping at his dad when he came too close but his dad just stopped reacting to it, laughing it off and completely ignoring that the behaviour was a result of max feeling unsafe.
I also think that maybe max is almost ashamed of this behaviour? He believes that his dad's treatment of him was fair, that it was how he got to where he is. But despite this belief, he still hissed and swiped at his dad when he came too close or spoke too harshly. It felt like max's own body was betraying him, working against him.
And of course his dad always doubled down on this, telling max that in order to succeed, he needed to suppress all his cat hybrid instincts and be 'normal'. So his very natural reactions to feeling unsafe became something he was ashamed of, maybe even punished for.
He had the exact same reactions to his previous dom, but that person was basically the same as his dad in his eyes.
He fully expects the same struggles with the new dom christian forced on him, but that never happens. You never make him feel unsafe? And maybe you even encourage his cat hybrid instincts, letting him play and getting him scratching posts and scratching him behind the ears.
Needless to say, his instincts LOVE you. He has never felt so safe and so secure.
(Sidenote: maybe you helping him accept his cat side makes his reactions to his dad even worse? Because he gets used to not suppressing his instincts)
I definitely agree that the first time it happens with you, it's after a dinner with his dad. Maybe you even told him not to go to the dinner and he disobeyed you, going anyway. You're waiting for him when he gets back, and he's absolutely traumatised, but he's also even more scared when he sees you because he knows he directly disobeyed you.
Max is an even worse state than you expected, and your immediate priority was obviously comforting him and making sure he was okay before you even thought about the punishment. Max doesn't know this though, and so when you reach for him he hisses and swipes at you, ears pinned back.
You step away of course, raising your hands to try and show him that you mean no harm and giving him some space.
Max freezes, not believing what he just did. He couldn't believe he just did that to you.
Immediately he's begging for forgiveness, telling you he'll take whatever punishment you want him to, that he will make this better, that he promises you he will never do it again.
Your heart just breaks for him, because that reaction was clearly one he didnt do on purpose and he was clearly feeling threatened. You should be the one apologising to him, because you were the one who made him feel unsafe.
And maybe that's the way to handle it?
You start apologising to him, promising him that you will never make him feel that way again.
And Max, poor sweet max who loves you so so much, immediately says that it wasn't your fault, that you were only trying to help him and you didn't mean to make him react that way. He stops himself mid sentence, realising what you just did and whining before throwing himself in your arms.
He's so upset and confused and he doesn't know what to believe anymore, but he knows he loves you and for now, that's enough.

Things that have helped with Dysphoria (Keep in mind this is what has helped me and it is to give ideas for those who are struggling):
The most common one is proper binding meaning binders and chest tape. Make sure to buy the proper sizing for a binder so it isn't hard to breathe. Take breaks in-between binding and switch to a comfy sports bra. Tape cannot be masking tape, duck tape, etc. That will cause damage to your body. Tape should be ones meant for binding such as Transgenx tape (a brand on Amazon) made for binding. Tape may be more difficult to use depending on cup size.
Packers. This can have a wide selection and range depending on the type of packer and sizing of it. There are stand-to-pee packers, normal penis packers varying in sizes, and foam buldge cups for something more neutral. There are probably other options as well out there.
If you have height dysphoria then heel inserts can help you gain an inch or two. They make ones specifically for height increase. However, make sure to be realistic with them. They may not make you gain a foot taller but they can add a couple inches to your current height to alleviate some of the stress you are going through.
Natural vitamins that can help with Testosterone levels. Vitamins D, magnesium, and Zinc can help boost it naturally. Vitamins A, C, and E can also help. Keep in mind that it can effect hormones in general and your body in different ways. Discuss with a doctor if you take any medications, medical concerns, etc. and talk about it being an options in general for you.
Any scents can help. From cologne to shampoo+conditioner. It can help with confidence to smell good and smell the way you want to.
If you take hormones like T then a T journal/tracker can help. There are multiple on Amazon. I have one that is a One Year Journal. It keeps track of any goals, physical and emotional changes, your feelings, etc.
Not everyone can have an entire wardrobe change due to who they live with or other circumstances. There are ways around this! You can get a necklace or bracelet that's more masculine. You can add small details to your outfit until your able to buy the clothes you want. Maybe add cufflings to your button down that makes sense you feel more you. There's plenty of ideas online that you can find. It may not fix everything and it you may still feel some anxiety and that's okay and valid. I will say even the smallest things can help.
One word MAKEUP. Want a more neutral look? Go for tan eyeshadows and neutrals that help you look/feel good but also remain in the middle. Want a more masc look? Contour is your friend for your jawline and nose. More fem look? Tons upon tons of ways to do that. You don't have to be perfect or an expert and there are plenty tutorials that can be beginner friendly and aren't complicated.
Acne treatments help a long way. Clear skin is something important. Lots of sweets may cause breaking out. Testosterone can also cause breakouts. Find a treatment that works well for you. If one makes your face very red or your skin uncomfortable try switching to something else.

I am a renfaire, dnd, high fantasy nerd. I haven't read all the classic high fantasy books, but I love dnd, and when I can't make it to the ren faire for a season I get really upset (Im planning on going next saturday :D ) And I have thoughts on what eggs/ certain parents would wear to a ren faire, so indulge me for a bit. I'll start with Tallulah/Death family since she won the QSMP 'which egg would' poll (Hi im the one that submitted it :P)
Tallulah would totally wear the classic lace up loose front dress in purple like she's wearing in the lovely edit by 'qsmp where they shouldn't be'. I imagine that she is wearing black flats and still has the mushroom hat. Fully embracing the cottage core vibes.
Chayanne I think would be casual. like a loose white shirt, comfortable pants and a colored over shirt to go over the long sleeved white one. either that or techno cosplay (something I actually saw at a renfaire a few years ago and it was super cool)
I think Phil and Missa would also go in costume, but a similar chill vibe to Chayanne. nothing too fancy. Phil would have a green long sleeved loose shirt with black accents, and Missa would have a similar one but in purple. Phil would have the Robin Hood style hat with a Crow feather in it, while I think Missa would still rock the skull mask.
Now Morning crew >:) (I have so many thoughts)
Sunny and Em would be the reason almost everyone goes in the first place. (mostly Sunny)
Sunny would insist on going in a full orange princess dress with a crown to match, She would like it to be floor length but renfaire is outside and as much as she likes working with her pa, she doesn't want her dress to get ruined so it's just off the ground.
Em similar to Tallulah goes full cottage core. A light pink and tan dress, with some small fairy wings for fun. she decorates her hair with fake flowers and leaves.
Richas would go full fantasy. He would rock up looking as much like a dragon has he could. Painted and made it himself (with some help but mostly himself)
(All three of them beg for face paint when they see it. Sunny gets another crown on her forehead (cause you can never have too many crowns) and Em would get an owl on her cheek, and Richas would get a dragon.)
Ramon would go as a knight, simply cause Sunny asked. Not the full thing, but he has the sword and shield, along with a (fake, like a plastic or something) chain mail shirt, that ends around where a T-shirt would.
Fit would also go as a knight because he's Sunny's body guard. He has a bit more of the heavy gear, having his chain shirt go to his elbows, and be made out of a light metal. He also has the sword and shield matching with Ramon. He would still sport the green cape scarf thing. (Also this man would hunt down the turkey leg stand and get two to slit with the group.)
Pac would be super excited to go at the first mention, and immediately run to his closet to grab an outfit. He would wear a long blue shirt with black pants and boots. For props he would have a hip quiver and a bow.
Tubbo would be really reluctant at first, but eventually decided to go. He would fully put sunny in charge of his outfit. He would get a long kings cape and a crown (a princess's dad *has* to be a king) He would also get the white under shirt treatment, but he would also just wear his tennis shoes. (Upon arrival he would immediately get jealous of all the steam punk people walking around but not want to disappoint sunny. He promised himself that next year he would make the coolest steam punk outfit and put everyone else to shame)
Bagi would have long white underdress with a forest green over skirt. The sleeves would be off the shoulder, and she would have a belt with a knife sheath cause you can never not be prepared. Her hair would be in a half up half down style the 'half up' being a braid.
Mike goes wearing his normal clothes, but richas convinces him to get his face painted, so he gets the same dragon design as Richas.
Bad and Dapper go in full plague doctor gear and you can't tell me im wrong. They would walk around and tell people plague facts like they were there and try to heal people from it. If you let them they would give you some poesy to put in your pocket to keep the illness at bay.
Feel free to add your own ideas, these are just the ones that came to mind immediately. or make up stories for what they would do at the renfaire, anything I'm so here for it.
#qsmp#LCChats#I love ren faire so much dude#I have ideas for a Rose Family in dnd design but I also have like 10 other things I want to draw/make#But i'll get to it eventually.#I think im just excited for ren faire#I missed last year so im glad I get to go this year#I have a fun idea for Fitpac in this ren faire world based on my own ren faire so i'll have that in a reblog >:)

TV: Jesse D´Amato

Pink Couldy Sky, Chapter 04 – Howl (Summarized) - Part 1
Chapter 00 - 01
Chapter 02
Chapter 03
Note: This chapter is broken into two parts due to length. I hope to have the second part up before next week.
Note 2: Just a reminder that when the text talkes about "currently", "now", or "today", it's doing so from the perspective of REM in 1999.
At the time REM joined SAVER TIGER, hide was not only a musician but also a hairdresser. He worked – or rather, helped out – at his grandmother’s “Beauty Parlor Midori”, located at the back of Yokosuka Central Station, where he washed hair or gave haircuts. This had a strong influence on his sense of visuals and esthetics.
When it came to the appearance of the band, hide especially focused on hair and make-up and he used his experience and knowledge to advice his bandmembers on hairstyles and cosmetics to get them on the same visual level as him. The band mustn’t look uncool, after all.
Before he joined SAVER TIGER, REM did not wear a lot of make-up on stage, but thanks to hide’s guidance in these matters, which was both patient and thorough, he came to recognize the importance of hair and make-up.
A stylish sound should be wrapped in a stylish look. The performance isn’t cutting it if it doesn’t satisfy the eyes of the audience as well as the ears. This mindset was a SAVER TIGER tradition that the current members inherited. All the concepts used by the bands representing the VK-boom of the late 90s were naturally put into practice by hide more than ten years ahead of them.
One more thing that changed for REM was that he got a stage name, as until that point, he was not actually going by “REM”. The person who named him was, of course, hide. The name is based, somewhat semantically incorrectly, on REM-sleep, because REM had a tendency to fall asleep. It’s the name he is still known by in the music scene.
REM follows up with a memory he has of hide the beautician: After REM officially joined SAVER TIGER, he and hide wend out to Dobuita-Street almost every day. One day they had plans to go again, but before they were to meet, hide called REM to inform him that work at the beauty parlor was taking longer than expected that day and asked him to come over and wait for him to finish. So REM went to the Midori, sat on the waiting seat and looked through the weekly women’s magazines he would usually ignore while he waited for hide to be done. He also watched hide being a hairdresser and found that he quite enjoyed doing so. When hide was done with his current task and saw the result of his efforts, his expression would turn soft, and REM thought that this was hide turning back into pure, unstyled Matsumoto Hideto. It was nice to observe that.
After the last customer had left and the store was tidied up, it was time to leave for their nightly drinks. Before they left, however, hide suddenly asked, “REM, should I wash your hair for you?”
REM thought it was a bit weird to have his friend wash his hair, but he had no real reason to refuse and also found the offer kind of charming. So he lay down on the hairdresser-chair and looked at the ceiling while above him, hide’s face changed into his hairdresser-face, which was different from what REM was used to.
While hide himself always protected his skin from the sun, he now said things like how REM, who had quite the tan, should get an even darker tan, while he was expertly washing his hair. The sensation was so nice that REM relaxed more and more until he finally fell asleep right there in the middle of getting his hair washed. Even today, he still remembers how good it felt.
That night they went out with REM’s hair all smooth from hide’s magical hands.
Jumping forward to February 1997, REM tells how hide, accompanied by his younger brother, came to the dental clinic REM was director of to get his dental calculus removed before going to Los Angeles. The staff had already gone home and REM took care of the treatment himself. As hide was lying down in the dentist’s chair and closed his eyes, in REM’s mind the image overlapped with the memory of himself in the hairdresser’s chair 12 years earlier, and he wondered if hide remembered that, too. Now he cannot ask him anymore.
To give an easily understandable example of hide’s focus on visuals, REM explains how hide poured more passion into the graphic design of their band’s posters and flyers than anyone else. He made them all on his own, and since computers weren’t common back then, he made them from scratch. It was hide who noticed that the abandoned car near drummer Ken’s house was pretty cool! So he made photos of the band with the rusty, junky car as a feature in it. He put the photos together on drawing paper, added cut-outs from magazines as a collage, and then the time and place of their upcoming shows. Since there was no color-copying either, he took the enlarged posters and colored them all by hand. The small copies became black-and-white flyers.
Hide was lively and cheerful while working on the designs and seemed to really enjoy it.
Those posters and flyers are still hanging on the wall of REM’s recording room (i.e. the 8-Tatami room in his family’s house that is just for his own use). Interestingly, those flyers started with the words “VISUAL LOUD & CULT”. Even in the mid-eighties, hide already naturally used those words. REM speculates that the design of the pamphlet for hide’s first solo tour was probably also his idea: An elaborate design based on the kind of power book that hide used at the time.
When REM joined SAVER TIGER, the band had about one live per month at the live house ROCK CITY in Yokosuka. REM’s first live with them was also at that location. Since drummer Ken and bassist Jimmy both worked at that place, the band got to practice there every Sunday afternoon. Afterwards, they all gathered at the house of hide’s family. What they were after, there, was his mom’s plentiful and delicious homemade food.
It was really good, and there was enough of it for their (financially) poor, hungry inner beasts starved by the harsh training to be fully satisfied. Vocalist Rolly always said, “Let’s stuff ourselves!” and have a second helping.
Their favorite dish was Mama Matsumoto’s homemade gyoza. Even now, REM can’t forget the taste. If he thinks about it, his stomach growls automatically. Anyone who ever went to “Parkside X”, a pub hide’s parents would later run, and ate their famous homemade gyoza-dish, would certainly understand.
But Parkside X also doesn’t exist anymore.
[Note: It is difficult to find anything about it, but from what I could gather, Parkside X was in business until the 1st of May 1998.]
Hide’s parents have taken care of successive generations of SAVER TIGER in other ways as well, but it was thanks to his mom’s cooking that the band got its power even in the present.
Unfortunately, those loving parents and hide also fought about the fact that he wanted to devote his life to music. Sometimes, REM would want to drop by for a visit only to run away again when hearing the sounds coming from hide’s 2nd floor room, sounding like a rebellious rampage. Even when coming across them now, REM thinks that hide’s parents just had a very normal way of thinking, and were worried that their beloved son would waste his life on such an insecure and intangible profession as the music industry.
When they met for dinner at hide’s home, his mom’s favorite advice to all of them was, “Please get a normal job!”
REM thinks that such feelings are very normal for all parents, especially now that he is a father himself. Even so, he also knew that with hide’s personality being what it was, he would never have given up the path of music that he had chosen for himself.
After hide later started to climb the ladder towards being a professional musician with the very successful Budokan-performance, his parents started to support him with a positive attitude – though REM isn’t sure if this is because they were finally at peace and stopped worrying now that things were going well, or if they had simply resigned themselves to the fact that this was really happening and there was nothing they could do to change that.
When REM visited hide and saw the love his father and mother had for their son as they chatted casually about his current circumstances with him, he couldn’t help but feel a little jealous.
SAVER TIGER practiced a lot in those days. And since their leader was perfectionist hide, the practice was also hard, of course. They practiced two to three times per week, starting at night and going on until six in the morning. In that time, they only had te10 to 15 minute breaks, but even during those, they – and especially hide – would continue to talk about music: What to do here, if it wouldn’t be better than change that, etc. So, it was like going until morning with no break at all.
Consequently, by the end of it, they were all exhausted, and no one more so than REM. But on the other hand, they improved a lot, and it was ultimately a fun time.
There are bad band leaders who cannot get the members of their bands to follow them, but hide was a natural in that regard. He saw the strong points of each member and managed to pull out their best.
He was also considerate.
When REM had only just joined the band and struggled with the unfamiliar songs, hide gave him a cassette tape one day. On this tape were all of SAVER TIGER’s original songs, with hide singing along to his guitar and giving a narration on various parts regarding what to do there. A full commentary on all songs. It was very well done. Hide must have put a lot of time and effort into it.
REM can only admire hide’s willingness to devote time to making good music and his care and attentiveness towards his bandmembers.
REM is SAVER TIGER’s leader now, and it often makes him think of hide’s skill in getting the best out of the band, as well as the hardships of the position that are hidden from view.
When there was no practice, hide would often visit REM at his apartment. In winter, he would slip under the kotatsu [Note: heated table] and spend all evening playing guitar. Then, suddenly, he would put a radio cassette recorder on top of the kotatsu and record the phrase or melody he just thought of. He would then ask REM for his opinion, and they would discuss what to do here or there until morning. On the days they didn’t see each other, hide would still call REM to discuss their songs or what to do with their guitars at their next live, so in regard to music they basically met every day.
REM’s weekly schedule at the time was as follows:
2-3 times practice.
At the same pace, band meetings that doubled as drinking sessions. Those lasted until morning as well and always ended on Dobuita-Street.
On the other days, he and hide created songs in his apartment.
REM and hide also often went to see the lives of indie bands that got famous, to form connections, do promotion, and get references for songs and stages etc.
While REM, as expected of a guitarist, always looked at what the guitars were doing, hide always looked at everything: Ensemble, harmony, rhythm, etc., but also things like guitar technique and sound. Even then you could catch a glimpse of the qualities of an excellent music producer that hide possessed.
As a little side story, REM tells of the t-shirts that SAVER TIGER also produced at the time and sold at their lives. That wasn’t exactly a common thing for indie bands to do. Hide had an admirably professional mindset when it come to things like promotion even then. This showed even when they went to the lives of other bands as well.
The guitar REM mostly used then was a white Stratocaster with “Flying V” in black on it. He also had a Les Paul for lives, but mostly he used the Strat.
Hide’s favorite was the Mockingbird. He also brought a substitute to lives, in case the strings broke, but if he had the choice, he would choose the Mockingbird, claiming that other guitars were hard to play.
What set them apart from other indie bands were the double leads of REM’s and hide’s twin guitars. REM doesn’t know for sure when it comes to the entire country, but in the vicinity of Yokosuka, there was no other band with guitars like that. It had already been that way before REM joined: Back then, the twin leads had been hide and another guitarist, whom REM replaced.
It was generally more popular to have one lead guitar and a side guitar, because twin leads required the guitarists to work together and harmonize perfectly. In that regard, REM, who identified fully as a guitar-artist, was probably perfectly compatible with hide, who used to say, “Even though I play the guitar, I am not a guitarist.”
He said that while he was a guitarist in the band, he would leave the solos outside the twin parts to REM, since he was doing other stuff as well. It showed that even then he jumped out of the frame of being a guitarist and was just generally an artist as well.
At the time, beyond the quality of their music, hide also had an awareness for entertainment and always considered the looks and staging of their performances as well.
There were many things that REM realized suddenly about hide through the years, and one of them was that even during their amateur days, hide thought like a professional musician.
Another thing hide used to say was that their appearance and everything they did on stage was one whole. He strongly believed that all aspects played together to create one big picture, and he wouldn’t allow himself to have even one damaged part in it.
This principle is the origin for the focus on his way to becoming a vocalist and the stylish staging of his promotional videos, REM thinks.
What made him so charismatic in Yokosuka were the sharpness of his expressions, the abundance of his ideas, and the speed in which they pulled them out. His mind was like a surprise box, and he had the strength of will to immediately materialize his ideas. This, combined with the lightness of his performances, made up the artist hide.
Those things brought a sense of urgency, tension, and anticipation to SAVER TIGER’s performances, which was found in no other band in Yokosuka.
When REM had watched SAVER TIGER perform that first time, he thought, “It’s like watching a theater play.”
And that was it for the serious side story. Back to the fun part!
Speaking of which: When REM praised hide’s diligence too much, hide would get embarrassed and tell him to stop. When it came to things other than music, he also loved fun, interesting stuff and often made plans that were extremely, if innocently, naughty.
When it came to song titles and the like, hide had a unique sense for words.
He organized everything on his own: Live house booking, member schedules, communication with the bands they performed with, or against. When it came to music, he was an extremely energetic person.
As soon as the live was decided, hide would gleefully begin to create the flyers. He included the pictures of the members, then their names, and the other info. At one time, SAVER TIGER had a new drummer names Kosuke, who is also SAVER TIGER’s current drummer in 1999. And for whatever reason, instead of putting his name as “Kosuke” under his picture, hide spelled it as “KILL WITH POWER”. Nobody ever called him that. Maybe hide thought it had more punch. REM didn’t know about it and didn’t pay attention.
At that time, REM’s apartment was the SAVER TIGER OFFICE, because he was the only one living on his own. His phone number was their official contact number as well. So one night the phone rings and the voice of a young girl says, “Uh, is KILL-san there? I am a big fan of KILL-san. KILL-san!” Completely oblivious to the fact that REM’s heart raced and he thought he was about to get murdered.

Early Detection Saves Lives: Skin Cancer Awareness and Prevention
Skin cancer is a widespread and serious health concern, affecting millions of people around the globe each year. Despite its prevalence, the good news is that skin cancer is highly preventable and treatable when caught early. Raising awareness about the importance of early detection, along with understanding the types, risks, and prevention strategies, can save lives. In this article, we’ll explore the critical role of early detection in skin cancer prevention and discuss the steps individuals can take to safeguard their health.
Types of Skin Cancer: Understanding the Threat
The three most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and melanoma. While BCC and SCC are less aggressive, melanoma is particularly dangerous and has the potential to spread rapidly.
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): BCC is the most frequently diagnosed form of skin cancer. It often appears as a small, shiny bump or a flat, flesh-colored lesion, typically on areas exposed to the sun such as the face or neck. Though it rarely spreads, untreated BCC can grow deep into the skin and cause disfigurement.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC): SCC can appear as a firm, red nodule or a flat lesion with a scaly, crusted surface. Found on sun-exposed areas like the scalp, ears, and hands, SCC grows faster than BCC and, if left untreated, can spread to other parts of the body.
Melanoma: This is the deadliest form of skin cancer. Melanoma can develop in an existing mole or appear as a new dark spot on the skin. Its ability to quickly metastasize to other organs makes early detection crucial for survival.
The Power of Early Detection: Why Timing Is Everything
When it comes to skin cancer, early detection is the key to effective treatment. Identifying the disease at its earliest stages not only improves survival rates but also allows for less invasive treatments.
Key Reasons Why Early Detection Is Essential:
Higher Survival Rates: The earlier skin cancer is found, the higher the chances of successful treatment. For example, melanoma has a 99% five-year survival rate when detected before it spreads to other parts of the body. However, if it spreads to distant organs, that rate plummets to 27%.
Less Aggressive Treatments: Catching skin cancer early typically allows for simpler treatment options like minor surgical removal or topical therapies. In contrast, advanced cases may require more invasive approaches, including chemotherapy, radiation, or immunotherapy.
Minimizing Scarring and Complications: Early-stage skin cancer can often be removed with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue, reducing the likelihood of significant scarring or long-term complications.
Recognizing the Warning Signs: What to Look For
Being aware of the early signs of skin cancer is crucial for catching it in time. The “ABCDE” rule is a helpful guideline for identifying potential melanoma:
A – Asymmetry: One half of the mole or spot does not match the other half in shape or size.
B – Border: Cancerous moles often have irregular, scalloped, or poorly defined edges, unlike benign moles that have smooth, even borders.
C – Color: Look for uneven coloration, including shades of brown, black, tan, red, or white. Benign moles usually have a single color.
D – Diameter: Moles larger than 6 millimeters (about the size of a pencil eraser) are more likely to be cancerous, though melanomas can be smaller when first detected.
E – Evolving: Any changes in size, shape, color, or texture should be taken seriously. Also, watch for new symptoms like itching, tenderness, or bleeding.
Other warning signs include sores that don’t heal, rough patches of skin, or red, scaly lesions. If you notice any suspicious changes, it’s essential to see a dermatologist for a professional evaluation.
Preventing Skin Cancer: What You Can Do
Prevention is always better than cure, and there are several simple yet effective strategies to reduce the risk of skin cancer. Given that ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is a leading cause of skin cancer, taking steps to protect yourself from harmful UV rays is critical.
Skin Cancer Prevention Tips:
Apply Sunscreen: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even on cloudy days. Reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
Seek Shade: Try to avoid direct sun exposure between 10 AM and 4 PM when the UV rays are strongest.
Wear Protective Clothing: Long-sleeved shirts, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses with UV protection can help shield your skin from the sun.
Avoid Tanning Beds: Tanning beds emit concentrated UV radiation, which can significantly increase your risk of skin cancer. Opt for sunless tanning options instead.
Perform Regular Self-Exams: In addition to seeing a dermatologist annually, examine your skin each month for any new or changing moles or spots. Early detection begins with being aware of your skin.
Regular Dermatologist Visits: A Key to Prevention
While self-exams are important, they shouldn’t replace regular visits to a dermatologist. Dermatologists are trained to recognize early signs of skin cancer that may not be apparent to the untrained eye. They can also use advanced tools like dermoscopy to get a closer look at suspicious lesions.
Who Should See a Dermatologist Regularly?
High-Risk Individuals: People with a family history of skin cancer, fair skin, light hair, or a history of tanning should have regular skin checks.
Patients with Numerous Moles: If you have many moles or large, atypical moles, you should be closely monitored by a professional.
Frequent Sun Exposure: Those who spend a lot of time outdoors, whether for work or recreation, are at a higher risk of developing skin cancer and should see a dermatologist regularly.
By incorporating annual dermatology visits into your health routine, you can increase your chances of catching skin cancer in its earliest stages.
Raising Awareness: Why It Matters
Public awareness campaigns play a vital role in reducing skin cancer rates. Educating people about the importance of sun safety, early detection, and regular screenings can help prevent unnecessary deaths.
Key Components of Awareness Campaigns:
Sun Safety Education: Raising awareness about the dangers of UV exposure and how to protect your skin is essential, especially for young people who may underestimate the risks.
Promoting Early Detection: Encouraging individuals to perform regular self-exams and visit a dermatologist annually can lead to earlier diagnoses and better outcomes.
Dispelling Myths: Some people believe that skin cancer only affects fair-skinned individuals. In reality, people of all skin tones are at risk, though fair-skinned individuals have a higher likelihood of developing it. Awareness campaigns should aim to clarify this misconception.
Early detection and prevention are the most powerful tools in the fight against skin cancer. By familiarizing ourselves with the warning signs, practicing good sun safety, and seeing a dermatologist regularly, we can significantly reduce the risk of developing this potentially deadly disease. Skin cancer may be common, but with the right knowledge and proactive steps, we can keep it from claiming more lives. Raising awareness about the importance of early detection can make all the difference in ensuring a healthier, cancer-free future.
