i’ve been thinking about the pokémon memes where it’s like playing off of that one quote that’s like ‘truly strong trainers should try to win using their favorites’ and it’s like ‘ok well my favorite is [something blatantly overpowered]’ and it’s got me curious. how many people genuinely love pokémon that also happen to be really strong competitively?

so if you will. pick a favorite pokémon (for any reason! whether it’s cuteness or strength or nostalgia etc. no judgment) then go here https://www.smogon.com/dex/sv/pokemon/ and look it up

(you’ll see something that looks like this. see where it says tier and has some gibberish afterwards? don’t worry if you don’t know what that means but tell me what the letters/words are)

also if there are multiple forms and the distinction matters to you make sure you get the right one lol cuz the tiering can be different

edit: forgot to mention i mean specifically in SV! which is what comes up by default. rip every pokémon that either isn’t in SV (it’ll say ‘national dex’) or used to be better but has since fallen off relative to new pokémon

#pokémon #pokemon #pokeposting #if you want to know what those terms mean #AG stands for anything goes. very few pokémon have ever been in here #the absolute elite. too powerful too broken #Ubers is below that it’s like the normal ban zone where most overpowered pokémon go #OU stands for overused it’s like the ‘standard’ top tier #below that is UU (underused) then RU (rarely used) then ZU (zero used) then PU (this is a pun. pee-yew. because they stink)#LC is little cup which is basically Baby Fight™️ and NFE is not fully evolved so like babies and teenagers basically #and anything with BL (ban list) at the end is like a weird in between state #where they’re too powerful for the tier they were supposed to be in but not good enough for anyone in the tier above them to want to use em #if you’re thinking these are insane ridiculous terms then i agree #slight edit i think i initially got the order of ZU and PU mixed up. so many tiers with negative mean names…#i fixed it in the poll though #that is to say PU is above ZU #and if you’re curious how tiers work. the tier a pokémon is ‘in’ refers to the lowest it can possibly go #but you can use it in any of the higher tiers if you want to (it’s just more likely to get stomped on)#so like if a pokémon is OU that means you can’t use it in UU or RU or NU etc etc #but you can use it in Ubers if you want in addition to OU #most people i believe play in OU bc there’s arguably the greatest game balance #you’re allowed to use powerful pokémon but it isn’t as run wild go crazy no rules as Ubers #i mean even Ubers has rules but. fewer of em #AG has only one rule and that’s ‘you can’t force a standstill endless battle�� lol. otherwise it’s the wild west #OU is popular bc it’s a fine mix of rules that keep the game fair fun and competitive #and pokémon that are powerful and fun to use in battle #but if you have a different style you might like playing in a lower tier where everybody is super weak #*syndrome voice* but if everyone is weak then no one is…#it’s all about scale it’s all relative #edit: KNEW i was forgetting some nuance. some pokémon are stuck in the past aka not available in SV so they’ll say ‘national dex’ oops

i think L should've tried harder to piss light off. provoking light into slipping up would not only be hilarious i also think it would be extremely easy and effective. not saying you could get light to actually confess this way, but he would definitely make more dumb mistakes if, for example, L kept interrupting their homoerotic brain chess matches to insist that kira is actually matsuda because the butts match

I understand not being a big fan of the appearance of past PCs, and I shared that earlier on, and even shared the argument that I wanted Bells Hells' story to be about them...but I feel like the time for that argument has passed. As we've gone on, that is in fact the story - that they're a bunch of level 8 adventurers who have fallen into an endgame scenario because of little peripheral threads and because of who one of their companions is. The story is, on some level, about not being about them. They've had so little time to drive their own destiny; it's been fetch quests and pursuit from the start, with little in the way of the odd jobs and proper stumblings one would usually expect.

And I hope that after the solstice they'll get to do that! But I think having Keyleth and the Ashari, Beau, and Caleb there hammer the above home: this is so much bigger than Bells Hells is prepared for, and they're here because a few weird things that happened in Jrusar (which is all that Eshteross ever wanted to look into, and all Treshi ever wanted to do) were unbeknownst to them part of a plot Ludinus Da'leth has likely been working on for several centuries; and because Imogen and Fearne are involved through accidents of birth. In many ways, it echoes Laudna's entire story. It's just people who were minding their own business in a town, and someone powerful and ruthless did things beneath it that affected the population at large because of a plan with cosmic ramifications, and they became involved out of an accident of location.

I'll admit - I do prefer a story where people are actively seeking something, or running from something, rather than caught up in bigger and bigger webs of conspiracy, but that's not the one being told right now, and the version in which far more powerful allies don't appear is a tragic and cynical one, whereas one with Keyleth, Beau, and Caleb says "yeah, this is fucked up, and it's not fair that you're here on your own to deal with this rip current of an event."

#it's interesting like. my complaints about party comp and pre-planning do still hold #in that I think there's a way to have told *a* story in which the party gets there more on their own steam #but also...again. that might not be the story intended #i think people do forget that a dm can be trying to tell not a specific array of plot events #but rather a specific theme and framing thereof. which puts a lot of past complaints in perspective (though they remain valid)#funnily enough the people complaining about the nein showing up...want a campaign much more like that of the nein #anyway as per usual when i have a wfh morning i've shotgunned like 5 cups of coffee and had Thoughts i can elaborate #critical role

It is quieter than she expected. Grey, for as far as her eyes can see, rather than the sickly green that has haunted her for years. No wailing and torment and voices to drown him, her, them both, as Nuala had expected. Just a stone pathway, leading off into oblivion. Dead grass forgotten in the cracks. She takes a tentative step forward and mourns the lack of Solas’ body heat when he stays rooted to the spot.

The fade, as always, surprises her.

The rift seals behind them, taking with it what little colour it had reflected on the stones and leaving them in the closest thing to not-quite-darkness the fade can ever manage. She shakes herself from waiting for that tell-tale hiss and rush of air that had always followed the sealing of a rift, reminds herself that she is not ten years ago when a simple flick of her wrist could solve all their problems. Her hand - the one she left rotting on the stones of the Crossroads - can’t save them anymore.

It’s been so long.
