Finally watched The Haunting of Hill house and I'm left with two main takeaways.
1. Every Flanagan show will make me cry atleast once
2. This really makes me want to rewatch the Rose Red miniseries.

van palmer x fem!reader
summary: friends to lovers with van.
warnings: van uses they/them pronouns, yellowjackets brief mention, reader uses reading glasses cause its cute, no crash, jackieshauna and lottienat mentioned, no smut but characters aged up anyway, just lots of fluff, not proofread
the memory of you as a middle schooler sneaking into the living room past midnight was still fresh inside your mind. with droopy eyes and your favorite blanket glued to your hand, you would tiptoe to the comfort of the warm armchair just so you could watch the creepiest horror movies that would definitely traumatize you. they were only exhibited late at night for a reason, you were aware of that. but you didnā€™t mind the nightmares and the terrifying feeling of being chased by an invisible monster every time you turned the lights off.
however, horror wasnā€™t the only thing you were obsessed with. you've always imagined how it would feel like to love someone like they showed in those stupid romance movies, daydreaming about finding the right person that would share the same interests as you. so romantic. in high school, it got even worse thanks to the teeth rotting sweet romcoms you desperately devoured and the immesurable hours you spent in the book store trying to find new romantic novels.
lucky for you, amid all your friends that were actually living in the real world instead of creating perfect scenarios inside their heads, you weren't alone.
you met van palmer in literature class. you used to sit right by their side and, despite your love for books, you wouldn't ever dare to say a word. van was the complete opposit, they weren't scared of sharing their opinions. many of your classmates would prepare themselves to hear the countless words of van palmer, slumping onto their desks, but you were always excited.
you instantly became friends when they first defended you in class when the teacher suggested a polarizing topic; comic books. unlike a few of your classmates, one of your favorite ways to spend the weekend was to read a bunch of comics. spider-man was your favorite. he had a pretty fun costume and could fly, hanging to spider webs. so nice!
"everyone knows that comics aren't as good as books. they are made for lazy people who can't read anything longer than ten pages." the guy sitting in front of you made sure to look back as he whispered, lips twisting into an arrogant grin.
"i don't think she cares about the opinion of someone who did an entire essay of arthur conan doyle thinking that sherlock holmes was a real person." van intervened, leaning closer to you but staring at him, before you could have a say. you shift your attention to the redhead with their head slightly bent to the right, raised chin and brows and firm jaw.
"i just got confused!" he defended himself using an irritated tone, surprised by van being able to hear him, not waiting any longer to look back at the teacher and leave you alone.
"don't listen to him. that guy is a knob." their quiet voice is followed by a change in their expression, face softening along with relaxed muscles.
you were surprised that someone as cool and as smart as them would defend you so quickly.
"thank you." you murmur timidly as your mind desperately tried to find something cooler to say than just a simple thank you.
"sure. i'm van, by the way." you watch van extending their hand in your direction and you don't think twice before greeting them.
"hi." you whisper, trying to stay away from your teacher's aim and not interrupt her. "i know. i like how you always talk in class. it's so cool."
for you, that was the second you made a friend. for van, it was the second they fell in love with someone who didn't think their opinions were annoying.
[šŸ““]
things happened pretty quickly after that. you created the perfect excuse to talk to them again, scared that you weren't nearly as rad as they were; a book club. except for the tiny detail that it wasn't exactly a club, just the two of you reunited in the small office in your house with cookies and tea.
"gosh, you look like an old lady." was what van always said to tease you. sitting just a few inches away, they would cautiously look at you with reading glasses and emma by jane austen in hands.
"this old lady here is getting to page 221 so you should hurry up!"
once or twice, you would look up to take a quick break from reading just to discreetly glance at van. it wasn't rare the times that they would catch your stare. sometimes it was the other way around and you could swear that van had their eyes on you the entire time.
from books and comics to movies, you shared a lot of similar interests. you were completely obsessed with the book and movie misery from 1990 and you often forced van to watch it with you. you knew all the details and fun facts from the movie and, of course, loved kathy bates.
"we've seen this so many times that i think kathy bates is actually visiting me in my dreams!" van complained over and over about the tedious movie choice with their mouth full of popcorn.
van would see the effort behind every movie and fall in love with the story of every character. watching misery, on the other hand, was such a common occurrence that they could spot the colors of the movie already stained on the insides of the tv.
"it wasn't that much!" you rolled your eyes at them but felt your lips involuntarily curling up. you would always laugh at the silly things van used to say.
"okay, fine." you give in after half a second, getting up from the couch. you didn't want to torture them that badly.
you got closer to the tv, removing the vhs tape of one of your favorite movies and securing them inside the small box. you were ready to let van decide, maybe even excited to watch something new.
"wait, van, where are the others?" you feel a whiff of desperation as you notice the absent tapes. van was in charge of renting them every friday. the feeling you had when getting lost in a bookstore or a library was van's feeling when they were surrounded by some old classic vhs tapes and a world of movies that you two would probably never get to see.
"oh, crap! i think i forgot all of them at home. sorry, i was in a rush." you sigh in relief, soothed by not being the responsible for losing them.
"then it looks like kathy bates will be visiting you again tonight." you tease van, looking at them sinking into your couch with a mischievous grin. you were going to give van a chance to choose movies, you really were. but it wasn't your fault if they forgot to bring the other vhs tapes.
"lord help me..." they whispered, dramatically covering their ears when the intro song started, making you giggle. too excited with your favorite movie and too focused on it, you didn't even caught van's eyes on you, watching you completely fascinated by the small screen.
little did you know that the tapes were buried on van's backpack, hidden under books, pens and the soccer uniform.
[šŸ““]
van was just as cool as you thought. maybe even more. much more. they would help you study after class, follow you to parties even though they hated it just to make sure you were safe (and to judge people with you right after), walk you home and read comics with you.
after your first kiss, that happened during a date in the movie theater as you were watching the craft in 96, van knew that they had to make something special to ask you to be their girlfriend immediately.
they spoke to shauna, asking for ideas. they knew that shauna was the best with words and romantic letters, always gifting her girlfriend jackie with those. they were dating for three years now, shauna had to have gome good tips. it took van two days to realize that writing pretty words on a paper wasn't exactly their talent after not being able to write anything except "hi, it's van".
that would be an awful letter.
then, van asked lottie; their best friend. lottie was dating natalie for almost a year now.
"i don't know, lot. this looks hard..." van was careful when questioning their friend, not wanting to hurt her feelings.
"it's not, really! and she's gonna love it, it's so cute." lottie reassured van while shoving lots of colored paper sheets into their hands.
"nat loves when i make her those cute paper rings when im bored during french class. she even wears them all the time!" lottie pointed to natalie in the back with at least four paper rings in their fingers. lottie sucked at french and she was always bored. evidently, natalie had a long collection of paper rings at this point.
the blondie was definitely threatening van with her eyes while they were trying so hard to not laugh at the situation.
van got home and the first thing they did was practice for hours, folding the paper multiple times and hoping that that mess would eventually turn into a paper ring. and, damn, they were wrong, again.
neither of those things worked for van and they wanted to do something special and good enough to make you happy. something important that would make your heart beat faster. something that matched your personality.
the hardest part was to keep it a secret, van was a huge blabbermouth. always enthusiastic and determined to make you laugh, it was tough to create excuses for not showing up to your typical movie nights. they were just too tired in the aftermath of spending days and nights creating you something.
"are you mad?" you suddenly ask them, impatiently untangling yourself from them. van, who had their arm around your shoulder as you were cuddling in the couch, gave you a baffled look. "you didn't show up last friday, i thought you were going to choose the movie this time."
"i'm not mad, i promise. i'm doing something important and i didn't have time to rent anything." van was a complete softie, almost pouting like a baby.
"more important than me?"
and that was what van needed to spill everything. it wasn't their fault, they just couldn't handle seeing you upset!
"of course not! look!" van left the couch in a blink of an eye, anxiously digging into their backpack for what they were working on.
"i was making you something. i was waiting for a better moment but i guess the moment is now." they chuckled awkwardly. you notice their shaky and sweaty hands clumsily holding at least three vhs tapes and a comic book.
"i wanted to give you something special to ask you something and i tried writing something or those stupid hard paper rings that lottie gives natalie but it didn't fit us. so i spoke to the lady that runs the video store and i actually bought your favorite movies so we can watch it together and, huh..." they look at their own hands, realizing that they forgot to mention the comics. "oh, and the new spider-man comic book cause i know you like it."
"are you serious?" it was your turn to frown your lips, eyes brimming with tears. while you were melting, van was terrified and inspecting your face for any signs that could tell them that you had liked it.
"thank you, van. i love this. i love spider-man, i love watching movies with you. i can't believe you bought those, it must have cost a fortune." you approach van and help their nervous self to handle you the movies and the brand new shiny comic. you smile tenderly at van, using your free hand to gently stroke their cheek.
"i wanted you to feel special." van says in a barely audible and still overwhelmed tone. "and i was wondering that maybe, if you aren't too busy with books and kathy bates, you would like to be my girlfriend?" their cheeks were matching the tone of their hair now.
"i think i can break up with kathy bates and give you a chance." you laugh, laying your presents on the coffee table. in a second, you wrap your arms around van's neck to bring them closer and press your lips against theirs.
[šŸ““]
"that's so unfair! why can't i be spider-man?" you whine, following van around your bedroom as they were holding your costume for halloween.
"because i wanna be your favorite, obviously." van place the costumes on your bed to give you full atention. your effort to look sad in order to convice them went down the drain when their arms held your waist, fingers carefully squeezing your skin.
"and because spider-man is the lucky guy who gets to kiss the pretty and smart girl." they murmur proudly, knowing that they had won.
"i hate you." you feel your cheeks getting warm as you fight against a beaming smile, leaning in for a kiss.

I've either had the best or the worst idea ever! (You decide)
Inspired by that post about being at the club/writing fanfic.
Danmei Fanfic Nightclub ā™”
A.k.a Friday Night Danmei (cos it sounds better)
So how it would work is that fanfic writer blogs that want to take part could take requests (like a dj) based on who/what they write e.g. you could request smutty hualian/wangxian/ranwan drabbles from me (Ximang pending).
Obviously it would only be drabbles like 500 words max. You can't request someone write you a novel šŸ˜œ
I'm thinking I could make my pinned post a list of all the blogs that want to take part as a base for people to come and bounce off wherever they fancy. Also you can tap in/out whenever you want. You don't have to write drabbles every week.
Other fun things to do at the club would be to share snippets of current wips, promote fics that you've read and enjoyed, or promote your own works. Share headcanons/fic ideas or fans of work could send asks with questions about fics they are enjoying. And everything would be tagged #fridaynightdanmei so you could track everyone's shenanigans.
Also run times for when the club opens and closes e.g. mine would be 7pm - Midnight. People could set their own times and depending on the amount of time zones in play, it could end up being a whole day event. Every week ā™”
Although, since it's a club, I will say, you gotta be 21+ (legal to drink in multiple countries) to play.
Basically, it's a fanfic themed danmei nightclub without leaving your house. Iconic.
If this is something you'd be interested in doing, comment/reblog send me a message and if you want to visit the club like this post. Depending on interest, we could potentially start next week!

Bi-Yearly Book Catalogue (2024)
Every book Iā€™ve read the past six months and what I thought, told as briefly as I can manage.
One Star Books:
Loveless by Alice Oseman
I understand that this book was helpful for a lot of people. It was the opposite of helpful for me.
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
My gripes with this can be whittled down into: this writer does not understand depression but really, really wants to cure it. Also, if you do decide to give this book a try, please mind the subject material. It really, really isnā€™t for everyone.
Two Star Books:
N/A
Three Star Books:
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
A simple book about an old man learning to want to live again. Where ā€˜The Midnight Libraryā€™ failed for me, this one succeeded. If you plan to read this one, be mindful of the content warnings. It also isnā€™t for everyone.
Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowely
Itā€™s about a dog who has cancer. I think that says it all. There were parts of this book I really liked and parts I really didnā€™t like. It lost me halfway through and I stopped caring about the stakes, which is really upsetting when the stakes are a dog. But the good parts are really, really good. Just be mindful of the premise going into it.
In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune
I liked the character work, loved the world building and on a technical level the writing was well-done. My gripes have to do with the storyā€™s internal contradictions and how the only character traits I can think of for the main character are ā€œasexualā€ and ā€œinventor,ā€ neither of which are explored properly (emphasis on asexual here). I didnā€™t like that despite being 21, the main character was narratively treated like a child, often involving his sexuality. I had to google how old he was multiple times because I couldnā€™t believe he wasnā€™t in his mid-teens given how he reacted to the story and how the story treated him. Loved the writing on a technical level, though, and I do plan to read more from this author.
Four Star Books:
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree
A COFFEE shop AU? In MY high fantasy? If you like DnD, low-stakes high-fantasy and fun character work, give this one a read. Itā€™s very cozy.
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers
Itā€™s a book about a nonbinary tea monk and a robot who lives in the mountains. Slow-paced with good vibes and great world building. I read it in an evening and came away from it feeling warm.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Achilles and Patroclusā€™ relationship breaks my heart again. This was incredibly well-written and appropriately devastating. I just wanted them to be happy.
Countdown to Countdown by Kong Xiao Tong (graphic novel)
I bought a physical copy of this because Iā€™ve always loved the artistā€™s work and wanted to support, and I enjoyed it a LOT. Beautiful art, fantastic characters. I know not everyone can avoid a physical copy, but the webcomic is available to read for free online and I highly recommend giving it a try.
Our Dining Table by Ori Mita (manga)
Learning to enjoy mealtime with loved ones again after childhood trauma? Yā€™all. Itā€™s a single-volume manga and itā€™s well worth your time.
Five Star Books:
Beartown by Fredrik Backman
This was the most devastating book Iā€™ve ever read. If you are interested in reading it: find a list of content warnings first. I went in blind. It is hauntingly real and the author handled the material so, so well. I canā€™t recommend this book without that caveat. But itā€™s one of the best-written books Iā€™ve read.
The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson
This book is about a man looking back on his life as a boy - the friends he made and the misadventurous ghost-hunts his uncle dragged them into. Itā€™s just the right amount of campy with fun characters and a brilliant use of prose. If youā€™re a less experienced reader and want a book that is easily digestible while also being extraordinarily well-written, Iā€™d recommend this book in a heartbeat, and itā€™s every bit as entertaining for more advanced readers.
What you are looking for is in the library by Aoyama Michiko
Five stories about five people, all in different stages of life, and their unique experiences with the same librarian and the same library. Individually, each character in each story has their unsatisfying lives changed in an unexpectedly simple way, thanks to the library. Thereā€™s nothing wild about this book, but it is wildly impactful. The library is for everyone!
Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
Heroine travels the treacherous seas to save the man she loves. Itā€™s a book about perspectives and joy and making unlikely friends, breaking curses through clever means and never, ever giving up. It has all the whimsy of a classic fairytale, yet not once could I predict how it was going to end. Itā€™s fast-paced and hard to put down. The world is intriguing and the characters are wonderful.
This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
This book is utterly mind-bending and I loved it. Two time-travelers chase each other through reality on opposing sides of the Time War and gradually fall in love. Itā€™s great. The biggest complaint I see leveled at this book comes from less experienced readers who struggle to follow the narrative - and I do agree, if youā€™re just getting into reading for fun this might be a book to save for later. But donā€™t let me stop you. I loved this book.
Conclusion:
Reading is great. Libraries are your friend. I always love book recommendations and Iā€™m on GoodReads as BeyondTheClouds777, predictably. If any of yā€™all take a stab at these books (or have taken stabs in the past), Iā€™d love to hear your thoughts! Iā€™m back in my bookworm era and thriving.

This is my contribution to the @harringrove-relay-race!Ā āœØ
Thanks to @robthegoodfellow for the introduction!
Eight months after the events at Starcourt, Billy begins to have visions. Rated T for language and internalized homophobia.
June, 1985.
It was dark. He was out on a drive again. All of these backroads seemed to blend together in this damned town. Yetā€¦ he knew. He knew exactly where he was. He knew exactly where to go.
Go to Brimborn. Build it. Build it. Build it. Build it. BUILD IT.
He thought briefly about the person in his trunk. How afraid they must be. Terrified. He had long since drowned out their noises with his radio. He had tuned it to his favorite station, rock music blasting. At first, it was so loud, it hadnā€™t even allowed him to think. But the more he listened, the more numb he became. It was a seemingly endless cycle. Find a person, kidnap them, and take them to Him. He had tried to fight it. He didnā€™t want to do this. No, as much of an asshole as he was, he wasnā€™t a murderer. But it was uncontrollable. And his thoughtsā€¦ The things he heard had broken him down so much.
Youā€™re a disappointment. You want me to call your mommy for you? Doesnā€™t look like he has one of those! Youā€™re so unlovable you canā€™t even keep your mother. Unlovableā€¦ Unlovableā€¦
Was this his subconscious talking to him? Admitting things that he never wanted to admit to himself? Ever since his mother left, his life had been filled with rage and unhappiness. Why would she leave? Was it true? Was he that unlovableā€¦?
The red lightning flashed across the sky and the radio turned to static. His hand reached out to tune it and he heard a woman talking. A radio host talking about a romance novel. He listened. He didnā€™t even know if what he was hearing was real. But he was stuck. Bound to listen regardless.
ā€œā€¦a coffee shop barista calling herself ā€˜Single Shot.ā€™ This goes out to you, Mister waiter-turned-writer, hope youā€™re listening tonight. You: mid twenties, classically beautiful working as a waiter in a fun little brunch spot in the city. Me: mid twenties girl with bright blue hair splurging on a nice day with the girls. Youā€™d said we should keep things secretive, and I agreed because Iā€™m not the kind of person who makes things hard for the guy they like. We had talked about that the first time you asked what we were, when I shrugged wearing your t-shirt and said that I could be anything you needed me to be, and you said: ā€˜datingā€™.ā€
Halfway through the monologue, the voice had changed from a young womanā€™s, to a young manā€™s. The story sounded familiar. Keeping things a secretā€¦ another person wearing his t-shirt. His heart began to throb in his chest.
ā€œI was happy. Because I didnā€™t have to be the one to ask you to be mine. Iā€™m not a mood killer.ā€
Admitting his feelings after a midnight romp. Not wanting to leave because he felt so good for the first time in years. He feltā€¦ wanted.
The radio crackled again. The soft sultry music cut out. The voice turned back to a young womanā€™s. Colder. Harsher.
ā€I try and try to make it easier on you.ā€
A red, neon heart appeared before him. The road seemed to disappear. Another vision. LOVE ME.
ā€œBecause I want you to love me. Please love me. Please love me.ā€
The hearts were everywhere now. They burned into his eyes. Into his soul. He heard the mantra. Over and over again:
ā€œPlease love me. Please love me. Please love me. Please-ā€œ
The voice was interrupted by static. Through the fuzzy white noise came a voice. The young man againā€¦
Billyā€¦ I love you.
His eyes start to burn with tears. A voice so familiar to him. The one person in this whole goddamn world that didnā€™t hate him. That didnā€™t think he was an unlovable piece of shit.
The voice was cut out and replaced by a sinister, twister version of the young womanā€™s. More neon signs appeared. Love me. Girls Girls Girls. Topless Bar. Gentlemenā€™s Club. Girls. Girls.
ā€œIā€™ll do anything. I feel like I donā€™t exist if you arenā€™t looking at me. But when you see meā€¦ā€
ā€œWhen you see meā€¦ I know Iā€™m real. But Iā€™m driving through this dark without youā€¦. It makes me feel like Iā€™m nothing.ā€
Itā€™s his own voice now.
ā€œPlease, someone find me.ā€
He stands in the void now. The monsterā€¦ Normally, the monster would be here. But itā€™s dark. Cold. So much nothingness.
ā€œWow, what an impassioned speech from Billyā€™s fantasy lover. What do you think? Theyā€™re everything you specifically want in someone. Theyā€™re just like you, Billy. But youā€™re frightened of them. Youā€™re frightenedā€¦ of the men. The men who come your way. Youā€™re afraid you canā€™t look away from them. You see them and youā€™re attracted to them. Youā€™re broken, Billy. Starving for love.ā€
I understand you, Billy. I know youā€™re broken and thatā€™s okay. I am tooā€¦ But Iā€™m here, Billy. Iā€™m right here! Pleaseā€¦ Can you hear me?
He can. He can hear his voice in the void. Thereā€™s something tugging at his mind both ways. Something compelling him to gather more people, to Build It.
Then something else is luring him in. Warmth. A pair of arms around him, lovingly embracing him. Itā€™s so familiar, like itā€™s on the tip of his tongue. Like he knows and he can see it but itā€™s foggy. A shape swirling in his consciousness thatā€™s trying to blot out the darkness. This thing that makes him happy. Hearing their voiceā€¦
Heā€™s back in the car. Itā€™s dark butā€¦ Itā€™s not like that. Not like when he was taking people. He can see the stars. He can feel someone close to him. He canā€¦ feel their lips on his own. Tears sting his eyes again, this time theyā€™re real. Heā€™s realā€¦
A hand caresses his cheek, thatā€™s real too. Heā€™s realā€¦ Brown eyes look deeply into his own. They bring him back to reality. This he knows is the truth. Please love meā€¦
ā€œI love you, Billy.ā€ He whispers to him, wiping his tears.
ā€I love you tooā€¦ā€ He replies. Please donā€™t leave meā€¦
Little did he know this was just the beginning for them. Reliving the memories from the Summer of 1985. Something was haunting him. Three chimes of the clock. Was his time up?

I would like to introduce the amazing @avalonlights <3

Billy was looking particularly majestic that night but maybe it was the edible Steve had taken.
Squinting through the slightly blurry see-saw the world had briefly shifted into, Billy was wearing a t shirt for The Jam and was dancing like a 1980s punk. He was sober in a way Steve wasnā€™t, amped up more on adrenaline than drug use. Flailing wildly back into the crowd, arms swinging.
That was just college, Steve supposed. Previous small town popularity by an abrasive Marxist(?) who used words Steve hadnā€™t heard outside of 1950s detective films. The lustre of Steve ā€œThe Hairā€ Harrington had been relegated to watching Guardians of the Galaxy on a Friday night and ignoring the horror of the Disney corporation.
Theyā€™d somehow all gone to the same college after high school, all of Steveā€™s old crew and adversaries (bar Nancy who went Ivy League and Jason who Steve was pretty sure had become a moderately successful drag queen.)
So, Steve could see everyone from the class of 2023 scattered across the club, particularly Eddie who had assigned himself as Billyā€™s best friend and was shouting Lord Of The Rings quotes at anyone who looked at him funny.
And of course he could see Billy, but really who couldnā€™t. The man was hard to miss.
Deciding to just ride the high out, Steve snunk off to the bar and decided to scroll through tiktok, occasionally snickering at a particularly ridiculous video, sending them to Robin or Carol and generally trying to not fall off the bar stool. That shit hurt.
He was content staying there until Carol wanted to go when he felt someone behind him, a little to his right. Judging by the cologne just dripping off him in spades, Steve immediately knew who it was.
Billy took a seat next to him and ordered a water. His hair was held up into an unruly bun by a pin with an opossum on it. Frankly, he was a weirdo but so was Steve.
Theyā€™d both gotten over the animosity in high school like 9 months ago so Steve wasnā€™t expecting a fight. Neither was he expecting what the part of his brain that watched too much porn wanted.
Billy inched slightly closer towards his seat and turned to him, clearly expecting to make some sort of conservation. Steveā€™s high brain scrambled to keep up.
ā€œSo, howā€™s things been Harrington?ā€
The tone was casual. Casual was Steveā€™s middle name. Not Joshua.
ā€œIā€™M FINE HOW ARE YOU!ā€ Steve shouted, then realised heā€™d shouted it as Billy and about half the club winced.
He then repeated what heā€™d just yelled, but in a whisper.
Billy looked both slightly stunned and heavily amused.
ā€œIā€™m good Harrington, you seem like youā€™re a bit spacey thoughā€
Steve attempted to nod but got distracted by the colour of Billyā€™s eyes. They were such a pretty blue.
ā€œCome on Steve, time to get you back to your room.ā€
He grabbed Steveā€™s hand in a firm grip and suddenly they were moving. Billy made some hand signals to Carol, she sent a thumbs up and Steves face was blasted with the night air.
It was probably about midnight. The only other people out were students walking to and fro from bars and campus. People like Billy and Steve.
The lift wasnā€™t working so they had to walk up four flights of stairs, Billy semi carrying Steve by the third floor. Steve briefly felt like the lead in a romance novel then felt stupid for thinking that.
Billy led him into his room and they played Mario Kart with a large pizza for a good hour before Steve passed out. On Billy.
He was still there when Steve woke up. Hovering next to the bed with a slightly worried expression on his face, presumably because heā€™d thought Steve had greened out last night.
Steve gave a thumbs up to indicate that yes the high had pretty much passed.
They stood in front of each other, Steve still in his pyjamas and then Steveā€™s dumb brain decided to give Billy a remarkably chaste kiss.
As a thank you.
Because he was an idiot.
Evidently Billy didnā€™t mind because he kissed him back, very intensely.
That morning was Steveā€™s favourite in college thus far.

When beautiful, reckless Southern belle Zelda Sayre meets F. Scott Fitzgerald at a country club dance in 1918, she is seventeen and he is a young army lieutenant. Before long, Zelda has fallen for him, even though Scott isn't wealthy or prominent or even a Southerner and keeps insisting, absurdly, that his writing will bring him both fortune and fame. When he sells his first novel, she optimistically boards a train to New York, to marry him and take the rest as it comes. What comes, here at the dawn of the Jazz Age, is unimagined success and celebrity that will make Scott and Zelda legends in their own time. Each place they go becomes a playground:New York City, Long Island, Hollywood, Paris, and the French Riviera - where they join the endless party of the glamorous, sometimes doomed Lost Generation that includes Ernest Hemingway, Sara and Gerald Murphy, and Gertrude Stein.
A small tribute to the portrayal of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald in Midnight in Paris, which is considered the most iconic representation of them. Within ten minutes Tom Hiddleston and Alison Pill brought the Fitzgeralds to life once again and had all of us fall in love with them.
Re-uploading this video for the holidays! ā™„ Give some love to Tom Hiddleston and Allison Pill in one of their most iconic roles!

Hey Mike, can you talk about your work on Revival? What was it like reading the book, writing the script, making it all work? I know people thought it was going to be like Midnight Mass, but King is tackling religion far differently & I would have loved to see your adaptation of that. Furthermore, why did you decide to leave the project? I read somewhere it had to do with the film rights, but Iā€™m sure thereā€™s more to that story & id love to hear your side of it.
Also, Life of Chuckā€¦. 1.85:1 or Scope? Cā€™mon, Mike! Spill the beans!
Thanks!
I was very excited about Revival. King had given me the rights after I finished the script for Doctor Sleep, and we took it around town as a pitch. Warner Bros. picked up the project and commissioned the script.
I wrote a script I love, and turned it in to Warner Bros. It couldn't be more different than Midnight Mass; that was always a very weird and unfair comparison. The only thing they have in common is that each story features a priest; any comparisons wouldn't have survived opening weekend, that was never really a thing.
Revival is one of King's scariest and most effective books, and I was madly in love with the movie. I stayed very true to the book, and the story spanned over decades. It was a character-forward epic about mortality, and the futility of hope, dealing with themes of lost love, addiction, and hubris. In fact, it has way more in common with Frankenstein than Midnight Mass, and I was stoked to make it. It wasn't cheap, though - the set pieces were big, the VFX budget was intimidating, and it fit into a type of budget that isn't typically made these days.
For those reasons, ultimately, after Doctor Sleep's disappointing performance at the box office, Warner Bros. didn't want to pursue the movie. They had really liked the Frankenstein comparisons, but that only comes into play at the very end of the story. Their pitch was to start the story there, and jettison most of the actual novel in favor of a new, heavily Frankenstein inspired narrative. It was a bridge too far, and changed the source material too radically.
Warner Bros. faith in the project had been seriously damaged by the box office performance of Doctor Sleep, and the character-forward epic I was pitching was just too risky given the hefty price tag. Ultimately, I wasn't willing to change the story as drastically as they wanted to, and it just didn't make sense to make it for that budget - so they opted not to make the film, and that was that. I didn't leave the project at all - the studio just didn't want to move forward with it. Revival is not the most obvious project. It is more expensive than a lot of comparable horror titles, and we didn't want to do it as a streaming movie - we bet the farm on a theatrical feature, and the cards didn't fall in our favor this time. My window of availability as a director rapidly closed. I was heading fast into Midnight Club and Fall of the House of Usher for Netflix, so without a viable attachment from me for at least a few years, the project couldn't move forward at all, and the rights reverted back to Stephen King. We discussed whether we wanted to try to keep it alive, but we were already deep into talks about The Dark Tower, whose rights were about to become available after years of being tied up. Steve doesn't like to give the same person multiple rights as a general rule, because he doesn't want his projects to stall out in development, which makes good sense. Given the choice, we absolutely wanted to focus on The Dark Tower. We let Revival go, and last I heard, some other people were developing it as a TV project. I absolutely love the script I wrote, and I'm disappointed that Warner Bros. didn't want to make it, but it's their studio and their prerogative. I can't say I blame their reasoning. In fact, I completely see their point. I could have dug in and fought harder to keep it, but that might mean I wouldn't have gotten the rights to The Dark Tower.
And I hate to say it, but Revival would have taken a similar narrative approach to Doctor Sleep, and - well - audiences just didn't show up for that movie. It's entirely likely that the same would have happened here - this was another long, character-centric story that wasn't entirely a mainstream horror tale, and it was expensive. And this didn't have The Shining connection to lean on. I am so sorry to say this, but I don't have a lot of faith that audiences would have supported us if we'd bet the farm on a theatrical release of Revival as I wanted to make it. So honestly, I think it all worked out for the best. You win some and you lose some in this business. Who knows, maybe it'll come back some day - I also lost the rights to Gerald's Game back in 2014 when we couldn't find a partner who wanted to make the movie. They eventually came around again, and the timing worked out. The same could happen here - maybe we get another chance, or may we revisit it down the line as a limited series. Stranger things have happened. Ka is a wheel. Or, maybe this new television production of Revival will get off the ground, and if it does I wish them nothing but the best with it. It's a phenomenal story, and I'll be first in line to see it.

CAN YOU TASTE MY LUST? CAN YOU FEEL MY SIN? By Heartofhubris
SUMMARY: ā€œBut, the issue had arisen during your nights when he filtered into your dreams. Nights of imagining him taking you in the pews, laying you out on the dark woodtostrip you bare to his whims.ā€ØWhen you focused back into the Father, you felt your blush travel up to your ears. The thoughts would only offer more confessions, and you didnā€™t want to add in more sins you had to confess.ā€Øā€œWe are all sinners,ā€ Father Ford said.
Enjoy the sacrilege, you damn heathen

PREGAME: Happy Easter my fellow alphas!!!!! My partner requested this one and I thought it would be silly if I was a bit sacreligious on this holiday because I kinda hate it šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Ž not because of like the religious shit itself but like because the rabbit shit doesnā€™t compute in my brain and also because of how my family celebrates good ole Easter but what can you do. Iā€™m not catholic, but I was raised pretty non-denominational Christian and I havenā€™t been to church since I was 10 so like I know nothing about this shit. Iā€™ll take most of my knowledge from watching midnight mass so like if itā€™s insanely inaccurate to how this catholic shit goes then thatā€™s not on me thatā€™s on the author, who describes themself as ā€œcatholicphobic.ā€ Also I only read this twice instead of my usual five times before reviewing so sorry if the review sucks ass thatā€™s just the alpha way though.
REVIEW: When I was younger I desperately wanted to learn latin. I watched this Wes Anderson movie called Rushmore (it was an earlier one so it wasnā€™t filled with the crazy aesthetics he has now) and I was in love with the idea of taking Latin and going to a Latin club and reviving an almost dead language. It drove me mad and I would try to teach myself Latin with google translate (because duolingo and sites like that werenā€™t really a thing) and I learned all about the etymology of words in the English language and I was obsessed with it and I would tell everyone what the root of certain words was and it annoyed the shit out of people (especially my sister). Anyways the point of all this is that Latin is not sexy. And it never will be sexy to me. And I donā€™t know why I was so fucking hung up on the mention of latin because like there arenā€™t even any latin words in this fic!!!!! It just mentions it!!!! So moral of the story donā€™t be me. This is pretty well written though bro. The author succeeds with constructing a kinda like repentance vibe in the first few sentences. Like it feels like thereā€™s nothing else to be written besides priest porn. Like thatā€™s the end goal. Even if there wasnā€™t priest porn in it I would get the vibes of priest porn like just read the first few sentences l think Aw man thisā€™ll either be some good religious horror novel or some killer priest porn. And I respect the hell out of that bro like it got the tone down bro. And like the porn itself is pretty well written like man Iā€™m bewildered that the tone just fit so well bro like I donā€™t get it Iā€™m baffled bro this is insane!!!!!! Like the porn was so well written bro it has tone and emotion to it you donā€™t get usually bro trust me. Anyways my partner said they were really into this fic and I gotta support them on that it was well written even if I find the father thing kinda silly but like I donā€™t know Iā€™ve never tried it. Also priests are silly and I couldnā€™t see Ford into religion like characterization wise buuut Iā€™m putting the mischaracterization aside because itā€™s just made for people who want to get off to priest ford pines and I gotta respect that. So if youā€™re into ford pines and youā€™re into priest shit this fine Easter Sunday then do some sacrilegious shit and read this fic
RATING: 6/8 fingers (BETA MALE STATUS)
Happy Easter and Ramadan and Passover and death anniversary of Margaret Thatcher my alphas šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜ŽšŸ’ŖšŸ’ŖšŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

films and literature and nonsensical thoughts of 2024
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the year was full of demons. art was not one of them.
Tumblr media
literature that made me understand being human
On Keeping a Notebook by Joan Didion ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…
"We forget all too soon the things we thought we could never forget. We forget the loves and the betrayals alike, forget what we whispered and what we screamed, forget who we were." No one will understand why I need a journal, why I can't go a day without putting my thoughts down on paper, better than Joan herself. I fear forgetting, but I think I fear never having that piece of myself somewhere in the physical world more.
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…
Every now and then, reading a YA novel becomes something magical. I don't know why fifteen year old me didn't read this when I was gifted it. But I'm sort of glad to read it as an adult, because of how it views life and risk taking and the act of living.
Tumblr media
films to watch at three a.m.
Frances Ha: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…1/2
I watched this and was sent into an existential crisis at 5am. In a good way. The love I have for something so simple to say "it's okay to be where you're at even if life sucks." is unmatched. I'm terrified of growing up because I think I'll do it wrong, but this film taught me to love the mistakes just as much if not more. I could write an essay about this and I probably will.
This Beautiful Fantastic: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…1/2
I ended the film in tears. Good ones, but still tears. If there was ever something to show me that love and change are all things that make you so human it's beautiful, then this would be it. But I mainly loved it because it reminded me of my grandpa.
The Greatest Hits: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…
If a movie could devour a heart, this one did exactly that to mine. Grief is that one human emotion I've never allowed myself to feel. And music is the escape that gets me away from it. Until they looped them together. Grief is love and I understand that a lot more now.
Colette: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…
I spent the whole movie rooting for her to murder her husband. And in all honesty she should have been allowed. I knew very little about Claudine, yet after this I want to feast on her works as if they were fine dining. They probably are.
On the Basis of Sex: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…1/2
Now more than ever we have to remember what women fought for, the equality and liberation we deserve. The film made a fire burn in my chest. Rage at why we're still fighting the same exact fight decades later.
Good Will Hunting: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…1/2
This film has haunted me for years now, but I've never actually sat down to watch it. I'm glad I did when I was in my twenties. Because this is a film to rewatch when I'm thirty and forty and fifty. I think as time goes on I'll see a different way each time.
The Jane Austen Book Club: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…
Oh the joys of getting to sit and yap about Jane Austen with wine and good friends. Not to mention falling in love. I think films that feel like revisiting a worn out novel instantly hold such an appeal.
Moulin Rouge: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…
If we didn't have tragedies, how would we understand being human? I've cried to lots of films, have found comfort in the layers of grief. But this one took my breath away. I'm ashamed to say it's taken me too long to finally watch it in full, but I'll never see life the same way after.
Tumblr media
albums to play in the kitchen at midnight
On The Inside: Gotts Street Park
Special love to the song Got To Be Good. Would recommend dancing by the fridge light to this.
Songs For No One Vol. 1 & 2: Victoria Bigelow
It's soft and lyrical and invades your soul without even trying. I recommend to be listened to with wine.
The Death of Summer & Other Promises: Etta Marcus
Every song of hers opens me up like I'm getting prepped for an autopsy. She picks at my heart and expects me to be okay afterwards. Definitely 2am existential crisis songs.
