okay so re: the excerpt from Lottie's book where she says that Louis was touring right before Fizzy's death so he wasn't around. Maybe it's an overreaction but it actually makes me INSANE to see people being like "lol so many inconsistencies hahaha it's all lies!!" or whatever. First of all he WAS, he was on the road promoting Two Of Us by doing interviews and playing shows around the UK, what else would you call that, it was a promo tour, and I do get worked up about just inaccuracies: but it's more than that. I think her saying that is actually really revealing and honestly, kind of devastating. Louis hadn't been away from London for a long time before that, he'd very much been at home, doing the X Factor and then doing promo from London, and even when he went off to do those shows on the TOU promo circuit it was UK only- and a lot of people think that was BECAUSE of Fizzy and what was going on, that pretty likely the main reason he took the X Factor job at all was to be able to work from home to be around because of everything that was going on, to try to help her, and that she was leaning on him pretty heavily. And we saw him with her more than once during that time. But then a while passed, and she finished rehab and came back after that, and he started doing single promo and moving towards the album release and then she ODed and that got cut off for a long while in the wake of her death. But I think Lottie talking about it like that is meaningful! I think it's possible that this tells us something, that it felt like he LEFT and was gone at this time, right before the most awful possible thing happened. And the idea that he might also feel like that is heartbreaking to contemplate and all in all I think that's just a really serious and upsetting thing that was expressed and revealed and people making it a joke or about larry or something like… upsets me tbh? Fandoms gonna fandom but fwiw. Just having some feelings and actually I think there's nothing funny about this and it might break my heart even more than it already was tbh.

You weave through my thoughts like a wild breeze, Your scent lingers in the air, so serene With every step, you glide effortlessly The world seems surreal, like a vivid dream, I lose myself in the wonder of your sway.

Media you should consume if you liked Saltburn !
Tumblr media
1. Call me by your name - novel
If you haven’t read the book you have too it’s more fucked than the movie the writing is delicious and makes you uncomfortable in some parts but the story is so rich and heartbreaking and weird.
2. The Favourite - film
A period film with a queen who is mentally ill with two servants fighting for her affection, it’s gay, erotic, heartbreaking, fucked up and bleak.
3. Diary of an oxygen thief - novel
A first person recounting of a sex freak who hates women and seemingly wins at life until one event. Honestly the less you know the better it’s a story with a horrible protagonist who you don’t root for and you desperately want him to loose. There are 2 other books that go along with this one.
4. Opulence and Envy - video essays by Contrapoints
I mean if u haven’t seen these yet what are you doing. I think the topics Natalie discusses are extremely relevant to the film. Just get some popcorn and watch these for a couple hours.
5. Perfume: the story of a murder - classic novel
Amazing writing, the main character again is grotesque and depraved. He has an amazing sense of smell and uses that to create perfumes in 18th century paris. There is already a movie about this film but it’s so bad it’s gets so much wrong. I feel like someone should make another movie with this but better, the best man for the job would odviously be Barry Keoghan.
6. Portrait of Dorian grey - play / novel
It’s a classic, the plot is simple but devolves into something quite sinister and sad. Just read it already.
Put more suggestions in the comments or reblog !

since people on here are talking about rap and how it's a lot more diverse than people give it credit for, I thought I'd add that a really wonderful source of information on the genre from its formation to ~around~ present day is the book The Come Up by Jonathan Abrams. especially if you want to get a taste of just how WIDE the scope of rap can be, I actually compiled a list of every song mentioned in the book that I could find on spotify (it's about 300 songs and admittedly includes a few non-hip hop songs that influenced other songs and were sampled in them)
obviously you're not likely to enjoy every single song. I didn't, but then I made a new, shorter playlist of the songs I did like, and I suddenly had a huge wealth of hip-hop history at my fingertips that I felt like I could really connect with and enjoy. it's there, trust me! especially if you listen to the whole thing you will hear how much it changes. you will be able to identify different sub-genres that may or may not be your taste. from there you could dig more into an artist or try googling "songs like" a particular one you enjoyed
I'll also note that like. definitely this is a bit lacking in female artists. I haven't read it yet but I do have a copy of God Save the Queens: An Essential History of Women in Hip-Hop by Katy Iandoli which is a good recommendation if you're looking to focus on women within the genre.
but it is a start, and it is worth checking out to educate yourself if you've never liked hip-hop. I thought I wasn't the biggest fan for a long time, and then I realized I just didn't love what I was hearing in the current mainstream. there's a lot of older artists I really connected with, and I've even been able to find some more current songs I enjoy.
this is also by no means an exhaustive playlist! these are songs that, for whatever reason, in context, were chosen to be mentioned in this book. there are definitely other amazing ones that didn't come up for whatever reason (for example, and maybe because it is a bit more focused on the history, Kendrick Lamar actually does not appear on the playlist). but I encourage people to check it out if you think you might be interested in rap. and especially if you're interested in rap beefs, there are several highlighted here. sorry to Queens but I really enjoy "The Bridge is Over" by Boogie Down Productions which is like a diss track on the whole borough </3
anyway, just thought I'd throw this out here. hopefully someone enjoys it! thank you
