“So if sensible people can kill themselves because life no longer seems worth living, then I suppose a sensible person might kill someone who makes other people’s lives unlivable, or who endangers the existence of others.”

Keith and Chaos,
“Hunk”
The memories played most of him and his moms painting, cooking then it showed how he met Pidge
Flashback
“Actually it's a hundred and fifty”she corrected
“Oh thanks”
“Pidge Gunderson”she held out her hand
“Hunk Garrett”he replied shaking hands
End of flashback
“Kieth”
“Fine”
Flashback
He was about 13 in this one his hair still in a mullet a man in a firefighter suit walked in taking it off and setting it by the doorway
“You look like shit”
“Same to you”
Keith barked out a laugh
He was still thirteen in this one on the front porch reading a book he heard the sound of something falling over he walked back inside towards his Dad's office opening the door his heart stopped there hung his father blood dripping from his neck onto the floor he stood there before pulling out his phone dialing 911
He stood there listening to the sirens someone dragged him out asking him a million questions
He was 15 now in dorm face down on the bed screaming into the pillow
“That bad huh?” Matt asked
“Just a normal fucking Wednesday” he muttered
“Fuck it all!”Matt sang
“Fuck it all” Keith mirrored
“Don’t give a shit anymore” Shiro Vocalized
this happened for a couple more minutes till they were all scream-singing at the top of their lungs
He was still back at the garrison
“James Griffin you sick bastard” he snarled
The boy in question whipped around only to be punched in the face
Keith walked away grabbing his phone from the shelf nearby sending it to the group chat the journalist and the principal
The next was him and Matt on his bike zooming towards a cliff
“Ok turn back now” Matt tried Keith smirked speeding up at that point Matt started screaming once on the other side of the cliff he opened his eyes laughing as they headed back
With a gaping Matt
Next, he was waltzing into Iverson’s office
“Kogane-”
“YOU DID NOTHING”
“Kogane calm down” Iverson ordered
“Fuck you”
“Respect your elders-”
He was cut off by a punch to the eye then another and another someone pulled him off he huffed walking out grabbing his bag and motorcycle helmet
End of flashback
“What in the fresh fuck” Shiro spoke
Everyone gaped
“so that's how you were kicked out of the garrison”
“James was being an asshole so I punched him”

VLD S1E1: The Rise of Voltron
Season 1 Episode 1: The Rise of Voltron
Transcript by @dragonofyang
Summary: Out on the edge of the solar system on Kerberos, Shiro, Sam, and Matt are extracting ice cores from Kerberos’ surface when they’re abducted by a mysterious alien race. One year later, cadets Lance, Pidge, and Hunk pick up alien radio chatter that leads them to find the missing pilot Shiro when he crash lands back on Earth, and they meet Keith, who was attempting to rescue him at the same time. Together, Shiro, Lance, Pidge, Hunk, and Keith find the Blue Lion, one of five alien spaceships shaped like lions that forms the mysterious Voltron, and they fly to Arus, their next mission is to find and pilot the other four missing Lions of Voltron with the help of Princess Allura and her advisor Coran of the planet Altea to defeat Emperor Zarkon.
[Google Doc]
Sam: Easy, son. This ice is delicate.
Matt: Amazing. Isn’t this exciting, Shiro?
Shiro: You guys get a little more excited about ice samples than I do.
Sam: This is history in the making. Not only have we traveled farther than any human ever has, but this ice could hold microscopic clues about the existence of life outside Earth.
Matt: Think of it, Dad. We could use those clues to become the first people to meet aliens.
Sam: My life’s work would be complete. What is that? Seismic activity?
Shiro: We should get back to the ship.
Sam: What? What is that? It can’t be.
Shiro: Run. Come on, run!
Unnamed Galra Commander: Emperor Zarkon, we were scouting System X-9-Y as ordered when we found these primitive scientists. I don’t think they know anything useful.
Zarkon: Take them back to the main fleet for interrogation. The Druids will find out what they know.
Shiro: Please, we come from a peaceful planet! We mean you no harm! We’re unarmed!
[Scene change to an unmarked hallway lined with holding cells in the Galra ship.]
Male: Look, they brought in another one.
Female: Who is it?
Second Male: Over there. It’s another one.
Shiro: Huh?
[Scene change back to Kerberos, labeled “One Year Later”.]
Lance: Galaxy Garrison flight log 5-11-14. Begin descent to Kerberos for rescue mission.
Hunk: Lance, can you keep this thing straight?
Lance: Relax, Hunk. I’m just getting a feel for the stick. I mean, it’s not like I did this! Or this!
Hunk: Okay, unless you wanna wipe beef stroganoff out of all the little nooks and crannies in this thing, you’d better knock it off, man!
Pidge: We’ve picked up a distress beacon!
Lance: Alright, look alive, team. Pidge, track coordinates.
Pidge: Copy.
Hunk: Knock it off, Lance! Please!
Lance: Well, this one’s on you, buddy, we’ve got a hydraulic stabilizer out.
Hunk: Oh, no.
Lance: Oh, no. Fix now, puke later.
Pidge: I lost contact. The shaking is interfering with our sensors.
Lance: Come on, Hunk!
Hunk: It’s not responding.
Lance: Oh, never mind, fellas. Thar she blows. Preparing for approach on visual.
Pidge: I don’t think that’s advisable with our current mechanical and gastrointestinal issues.
Hunk: Agreed.
Lance: Stop worrying. This baby can take it, can’t you, champ? See? She was--she was nodding. She was nodding. Pidge, hail down to them and let them know their ride is here.
Pidge: Attention, lunar vessel--[screams]
Lance: What are you doing? Buckle your belt. And Hunk, stop that shaking!
Hunk: I’m try--oh, no.
Pidge: Attention, lunar vessel, this is Galaxy Garrison Rescue Craft One Victor Six Three Tango. Coming in for landing and extraction, against crew recommendations.
Lance: No time for your mutinous comments now, Pidge. They’re going under and we’re going in.
Pidge: Look out for that overhang!
Lance: No worries, my first year in flight school, you know what they called me? They called me “The Tailor” because of how I thread the needle. Come around, come around! Come on, come on!
Hunk: We lost a wing!
Lance: Oh, man.
Computer: Simulation failed.
Pidge: Nice work, Tailor.
Iverson: Roll out, donkeys! Well, let’s see if we can’t use this complete failure as a lesson for the rest of you students. Can anyone point out the mistakes these three so-called cadets made in the simulator?
Student 1: The engineer puked in the main gearbox.
Iverson: Yes. As everyone knows, vomit is not an approved lubricant for engine systems. What else?
Student 2: The comms spec removed his safety harness.
Student 3: The pilot crashed!
Iverson: Correct. And worst of all, the whole jump, they’re arguing with each other. Heck, if you’re gonna be this bad individually, you’d better at least be able to work as a team! Galaxy Garrison exists to turn young cadets like you into the next generation of elite astroexplorers, but these kinds of mental mistakes are exactly what cost the lives of the men on the Kerberos mission.
Pidge: That’s not true, sir!
Iverson: What did you say?
Lance: Sorry, sir. I think he may have hit his head when he fell out of his chair. But point taken.
Iverson: I hope I don’t need to remind you that the only reason you’re here is that the best pilot in your class had a discipline issue and flunked out. Don’t follow in his footsteps. Next!
[Scene change to outside the Galaxy Garrison compound.]
Iverson: Lights out in five! Everyone back to their dorms, now.
Hunk: We shouldn’t be doing this.
Lance: You heard Commander Iverson. We need to bond as a team. We’re gonna grab Pidge, hit the town, loosen up, meet some nice girls and--
Hunk: I-I’m just saying this here, right now, on the record. This is a bad idea.
Lance: You know, for someone in a space exploration program, you don’t have much of a sense of adventure.
Hunk: All of your little “adventures” end up with me in the principal’s office. Oh, man.
Guard: L-5 north all clear.
Hunk: I’m fine.
Lance: Where is he going?
[Scene change to the roof of the Galaxy Garrison.]
Lance: You come up here to rock out?
Pidge: Oh, Lance, Hunk. No, um, just looking at the stars.
Lance: Where’d you get this stuff? It doesn’t look like Garrison tech.
Pidge: I built it.
Hunk: You built all of this?
Pidge: Stop it! With this thing, I can scan all the way to the edge of the solar system.
Lance: That right? All the way to Kerberos? You go ballistic every time the instructors bring it up. What’s your deal?
Pidge: Second warning, Hunk.
Lance: Look, Pidge, if we’re going to bond as a team, we can’t have any secrets.
Pidge: Fine. The world as you know it is about to change. The Kerberos mission wasn’t lost because of some malfunction or crew mistake. Stop touching my equipment! So, I’ve been scanning the system and picking up alien radio chatter.
Hunk: Whoa, what? Aliens?
Lance: Okay. So, you’re insane. Got it.
Pidge: I’m serious. They keep repeating one word: “Voltron.” And tonight, it’s going crazier than I have ever heard it.
Lance: How crazy?
Iverson, over PA: Attention, students. This is not a drill. We are on lockdown! Security situation Zulu Niner. Repeat: all students are to remain in barracks until further notice.
Hunk: What’s going on? Is that a meteor? A very, very big meteor?
Pidge: It’s a ship.
Lance: Holy crow! I can’t believe what I’m seeing! That’s not one of ours.
Pidge: No. It’s one of theirs.
Hunk: So, wait, there really are aliens out there?
Pidge: We’ve gotta see that ship!
Lance: Hunk, come on!
Hunk: Oh, this is the worst team-building exercise ever.
[Scene change to the cliffs where the mystery space ship landed.]
Lance: Whoa! What the heck is that thing? And who the heck is she?
Pidge: Lance!
Lance: Ow! Right, alien ship. Man, we’ll never get past all those guards to get a look.
Hunk: Aw, man. Yeah, yeah, I guess there’s nothing to do but head back to the barracks, right?
Pidge: Wait, they set up a camera in there and I grabbed its feed. Look!
Shiro: Hey! What are you doing?
Iverson: Calm down, Shiro. We just need to keep you quarantined until we run some tests.
Shiro: You have to listen to me! They destroy worlds! Aliens are coming!
Lance: That’s Shiro, the pilot of the Kerberos mission! That guy’s my hero!
Hunk: Guess he’s not dead in space, after all.
Pidge: But where’s the rest of the crew?
Iverson: Do you know how long you’ve been gone?
Shiro: I don’t know. Months? Years? Look, there’s no time. Aliens are coming here for a weapon. They’re probably on their way. They’ll destroy us. We have to find Voltron.
Pidge: Voltron!
Man: Sir, take a look at this. It appears his arm has been replaced with a cyborg prosthetic.
Iverson: Put him under until we know what that thing can do.
Shiro: No, no, no! Don’t put me under! No! There’s no time!
Pidge: They didn’t ask about the rest of the crew.
Lance: What are they doing? The guy’s a legend. They’re not even gonna listen to him?
Pidge: We have to get him out.
Hunk: Uh, I hate to be the voice of reason here, always, but weren’t we just watching on TV because there was no way to get past the guards?
Lance: That was before we were properly motivated. We’ve just gotta think. Could we tunnel in?
Pidge: Maybe we could get some hazmat suits and sneak in like med techs.
Hunk: Or we dress up like cooks, head back to the dorms, sneak into the commissary, little late-night snack.
Lance: No. What we need is a distraction.
Hunk: Is that the aliens? Is that the aliens? Are they here? They got here so quick!
Pidge: No. Those explosions were a distraction for him. The Garrison’s headed toward the blast, and he’s sneaking in from the other side.
Lance: No way! Oh, he is not going to beat us in there! That guy’s always trying to one-up me!
Hunk: Who is it?
Lance: Keith!
Pidge: Who?
Hunk: Are you sure?
Lance: Oh, I’d recognize that mullet anywhere!
Pidge: Who’s Keith?
Man: These readings are off the chart. Hey!
Keith: Shiro?
Lance: Nope. No, you--no, no, no. No, you don’t. I’m saving Shiro.
Keith: Who are you?
Lance: Who am I? Uh, the name’s Lance. We were in the same class at the Garrison.
Keith: Really, are you an engineer?
Lance: No, I’m a pilot! We were, like, rivals. You know, Lance and Keith, neck and neck.
Keith: Oh, wait, I remember you. You’re a cargo pilot.
Lance: Well, not anymore. I’m fighter class now, thanks to you washing out.
Keith: Well, congratulations.
Hunk: Oh, man. They’re coming back and they do not look happy. We gotta go. Uh, do you mind if we catch a ride with you?
Pidge: Is this thing going to be big enough for all of us?
Keith: No.
Pidge: Why am I holding this guy?
Hunk: Hey, we did all fit.
Lance: Can’t this thing go any faster?
Keith: We could toss out some non-essential weight.
Lance: Oh, right! Okay, so that was an insult. I get it.
Keith: Big man, lean left!
All: Whoa!
Hunk: Aw, man! Mr. Harris just wiped out Professor Montgomery! No, no, he’s fine.
Keith: Big man, lean right!
Hunk: Guys? Is that a cliff up ahead?
Lance: Oh, no, no, no!
Keith: Yup.
Pidge: No, no, no!
Lance: What are you doing? You’re going to kill us all!
Keith: Shut up and trust me!
[Scene change to outside Keith’s home.]
Keith: It’s good to have you back.
Shiro: It’s good to be back.
Keith: So what happened out there? Where were you?
Shiro: I wish I could tell you. My head’s still pretty scrambled. I was on an alien ship, somehow I escaped. It’s all a blur. How did you know to come save me when I crashed?
Keith: You should come see this.
[Scene change to inside Keith’s home.]
Shiro: What have you been working on?
Keith: I can’t explain it, really. After getting booted from the Garrison, I was kinda lost and found myself drawn out to this place. It’s like something… some energy was telling me to search.
Shiro: For what?
Keith: Well, I didn’t know at the time… until I stumbled across this area. It’s an outcropping of giant boulders with caves covered in these ancient markings. Each tells a slightly different story about a blue lion, but they all share clues leading to some event, some arrival happening last night. Then, you showed up.
Shiro: I should thank you all for getting me out. Lance, right?
Pidge: The nervous guy’s Hunk. I’m Pidge. So, did anyone else from your crew make it out?
Shiro: I’m not sure. I remember the mission and being captured. After that, it’s just bits and pieces.
Hunk: Yeah, sorry to interrupt, but back to the aliens. Where are they now? Are they coming? Are they coming for all of us? Like, where are they at this very moment?
Shiro: I can’t really put it together. I remember the word “Voltron.” It’s some kind of weapon they’re looking for, but I don’t know why. Whatever it is, I think we need to find it before they do.
Hunk: Well, last night, I was rummaging through Pidge’s stuff, and I found this picture. Look, it’s his girlfriend.
Pidge: Hey, give me that! What were you doing in my stuff?
Hunk: I was looking for a candy bar. But, then, I started reading his diary--
Pidge: What?!
Hunk: --and I noticed that the repeating series of numbers the aliens are searching for looks a lot like a Fraunhofer line.
Keith: Frown who?
Hunk: It’s a number describing the emission spectrum of an element, only, this element doesn’t exist on EArth. I thought it might be this Voltron, and I think I can build a machine to look for it, kinda like a Voltron Geiger counter.
Lance: Hunk, you big gassy genius!
Hunk: It’s pretty fascinating, really. The wavelength looks like this.
Keith: Give me that.
[Scene change to the canyons leading to Blue Lion’s hiding place.]
Lance: Okay, I admit it. This is super freaky.
Hunk: I’m getting a reading. Whoa. Whoa.
Shiro: What are these?
Keith: These are the lion carvings I was telling you about. They’re everywhere around here.
Lance: Hmm. Whoa. Whoa!
All: What?
Keith: They’ve never done that before.
Lance: They are everywhere.
Pidge: Is this it? Is this the Voltron?
Shiro: It must be.
Keith: This is what’s been causing all of this crazy energy out here. Looks like there’s a forcefield around it.
Lance: Does anyone else get the feeling this is staring at them?
Shiro: No.
Lance: Yeah. The eyes are totally following me.
Keith: I wonder how we get through this.
Lance: Maybe you just have to knock. Whoa. Uh, did everyone just see that?
Hunk: Voltron is a robot. Voltron is a huge, huge awesome robot!
Pidge: And this thing is only one part of it! I wonder where the rest of them are.
Shiro: This is what they’re looking for.
Keith: Incredible.
Lance: Hmm. Mmm… hmm… Here we go. Uh? Huh.
Pidge: Whoa.
Hunk: Whoa.
Lance: Alright! Very nice!
Hunk: Okay, guys, I feel the need to point out, just so that we’re all, you know, aware. We are in some kind of futuristic alien cat head right now.
Lance: Whoa. Did you guys just hear that?
Keith: Hear what?
Lance: I think it’s talking to me. Hmm… Um… Okay, got it. Now, let’s try this.
Keith: You are the worst pilot ever!
Iverson: What in the Sam Hill is that?
Garrison Officer: It appears to be a flying blue lion, sir.
Lance: Isn’t this awesome?
Hunk: Make it stop. Make it stop.
Lance: I’m not making it do anything. It’s like it’s on autopilot.
Keith: Where are you going?!
Lance: I just said it’s on autopilot! It says there’s an alien ship approaching Earth. I think we’re supposed to stop it.
Pidge: What did it say, exactly?
Lance: Well, it’s not like it’s saying words. More like feeding ideas into my brain, kind of.
Hunk: Well, if this thing is the weapon they’re coming for, why don’t we just, I don’t know, give it to them? Maybe they’ll leave us alone. Sorry, lion, nothing personal.
Shiro: You don’t understand. These monsters spread like a plague throughout the galaxy, destroying everything in their path. There’s no bargaining with them. They won’t stop until everything’s dead.
Hunk: Oh. Never mind, then.
[Cut to space.]
Hunk: Uh… Holy crow! Is that really an alien ship?
Shiro: They found me.
Pidge: We’ve got to get it out of here!
Lance: Hang on! Alright, okay! I think I know what to do!
Pidge: Be careful, man. This isn’t a simulator.
Lance: Well, that’s good. I always wreck a simulator. Let’s try this.
Shiro: Nice job, Lance!
Lance: Okay, I think it’s time to get these guys away from our planet.
Unnamed Galra Commander: Lord Zarkon, the escaped prisoner and his people found the lion. It attacked us and is heading out of the system.
Zarkon: Follow that lion and alert all ships in the area to intercept. Capturing that lion is your first and only priority.
Unnamed Galra Commander: Yes, Your Majesty. Full power after the lion!
Hunk: Oh, no!
Pidge: They’re gaining on us!
Lance: It’s weird. They’re not trying to shoot us. They’re just chasing.
Hunk: Okay, seriously, now we think having aliens follow us is good? I am not on board with this new direction, guys.
Keith: Where are we?
Shiro: Edge of the solar system. There’s Kerberos.
Pidge: It takes months for our ships to get out this far. We got out here in five seconds.
Hunk: What is that?
Lance: Uh, this may seem crazy, but I think the lion wants us to go through there.
Pidge: Where does it go?
Lance: I-I don’t know. Shiro, you’re the senior officer here. What should we do?
Shiro: Whatever’s happening, the lion knows more than we do. I say we trust it, but we’re a team now. We should decide together.
Lance: Alright. Guess we’re all ditching class tomorrow.
Lance: Whoa. That was…
Hunk: So sorry.
Pidge: I’m just surprised it took this long.
Shiro: I don’t recognize any of these constellations. We must be a long, long way from Earth.
Lance: The lion seems to want to go to this planet. I think… I think it’s going home.
Lance: Guys, personal space. Hunk, your breath is killing me.
Hunk: Um, is it just me or is anyone else having second thoughts about flying through a mysterious wormhole? Why are we listening to a robotic lion anyway?
Lance: Got us away from that alien warship, didn’t it?
Keith: I don’t know if you noticed, but we’re in an alien warship.
Lance: Oh, are you scared?
Keith: With you at the helm? Terrified.
Shiro: Alright, knock it off. No one’s happy to be in this situation, but we’re here now. If we want to get through this, we’ve got to do it together.
Pidge: So, what do we do?
Shiro: First, we find out where we’re headed. Lance?
Lance: I don’t know. I’m sorry. The lion’s not talking to me anymore. Wait! Wait, wait wait! Shh! Listen. I think I hear something.
Keith: I’m hearing it, too.
Hunk: It’s uh--it’s kind of a--a high-pitched squeal?
All: [exclaim in disgust] Come on, Lance!
Lance: But seriously, there’s a castle up ahead.
All: Wow.
Shiro: Keep your guard up.
Pidge: Something wrong?
Shiro: My crew was captured by aliens once. I’m not gonna let it happen again.
Hunk: Oh, no! No! I knew it was going to eat us! No! Oh, the door is open. Guess I was wrong about you.
Hunk: Hello?
Pidge: From the size of the lion, I expected these steps to be bigger.
Computer: Hold for identity scan.
Pidge: What?
Shiro: Why are we here? What do you want with us?
Lance: Whoa!
Pidge: Whoa. I guess we’re going that way.
Hunk: Hello? Hello? Hello?
Lance: Where are we?
Pidge: It’s some kind of control room.
Hunk: Are these guys… dead?
Allura: Father!
Lance: Woah! Hello.
Allura: Who are you? Where am I?
Lance: My name’s Lance, and you’re right here in my arms.
Allura: Your ears…
Lance: Yeah?
Allura: They’re hideous. What’s wrong with them?
Lance: Nothing’s wrong with them! They heard exactly what you said about them!
Allura: Who are you? Where is King Alfor? What are you doing in my castle?
Lance: A giant blue lion brought us here. That’s all we know!
Allura: How do you have the Blue Lion? What happened to its paladin? What are you all doing here? Unless… How long has it been?
Shiro: We don’t know what you’re talking about. Why don’t you tell us who you are? Maybe we can help.
Allura: I am Princess Allura of Planet Altea. I’ve got to find out where we are and how long we’ve been asleep.
Pidge: Okay, that’s how that works.
Coran: Enemy combatants! Quiznak! You’re lucky I have a case of the ol’ “sleep chamber knees”. Otherwise I’d grab your head like this, wrap you up like so, one, two, three! Sleepytime!
Lance: Well, before you did that I’d--[grunts repeatedly] like that.
Coran: Oh, really? Well how could you do that when I’ve already come at you with this? Ha, ha, ha, hey!
Hunk: Man, these guys are good.
Allura: It can’t be.
Coran: What is it?
Allura: We’ve been asleep for ten thousand years.
[Transition to a flashback, ten thousand years ago.]
Alfor: Zarkon.
Zarkon: Your fleet has been destroyed, Alfor. I will be there shortly to claim Voltron.
Allura: Father, we must form Voltron and fight before it’s too late!
Alfor: It’s already too late. We must send the lions away. We can’t risk them falling into Zarkon’s hands.
Allura: We can’t give up hope!
Alfor: I’m sorry, daughter. If all goes well, I will see you again soon.
Allura: Father…
Alfor: I love you.
[Transition back to the present.]
Allura: Planet Altea and all of the planets in our solar system have been destroyed. Coran, Father is gone. Our entire civilization… Zarkon.
Shiro: Zarkon?
Allura: He was the king of the Galra. A vile creature and enemy to all free people.
Shiro: I remember now… I was his prisoner.
Allura: He’s still alive? Impossible!
Shiro: I can’t explain it, but it’s true. He’s searching for a super-weapon called Voltron.
Allura: He’s searching for it because he knows it’s the only thing that can defeat him, and that’s exactly why we must find it before he does.
[Cut to an unspecified location full of floating purple crystals.]
Haggar: Ah…
[Cut to an unspecified location on Zarkon’s command ship.]
Haggar: The Blue Lion has returned, and now I feel a resurgence of Altean energy.
Zarkon: Alfor’s daughter lives? How?
Haggar: I know not, but it is time to reclaim what is rightfully ours.
Zarkon: Yes. I shall wipe that foul race from the universe forever and take back Voltron. Contact my commanders.
[Cut to a Galra cruiser in deep space.]
Male voice: Emperor Zarkon requests an audience.
Zarkon: Commander Sendak, the Princess of Altea is alive and hiding in your sector. We believe she alone holds the whereabouts of the remaining lions. Your battle fleet is the closest to her location. Retrieve her and the lions. With them all, the Galra Empire will be unstoppable.
Sendak: I fight for the empire. I conquer in the name of Galra. No foe has ever stood in my way and none ever will. Vrepit Sa! Set a course for Arus.
[Cut to the Castle of Lions.]
Coran: Princess, you must eat. It’s been ten thousand years.
Allura: I’m not hungry.
Lance: Man, ten thousand years? That's like one thousand plus ten.
Keith: That’s times ten.
Lance: Whatever, dropout.
Hunk: I haven’t eaten since breakfast and I’m starving.
Pidge: Yeah, but you’ve thrown up, like, five times.
Shiro: I can’t believe your civilization created such advanced technology ten thousand years ago. It must have been an incredible place.
Coran: Yes, it was… but now it is gone and we’re the last Alteans alive.
Allura: Looks like we’re not the last, after all.
Coran: A Galra battleship has set its tracker to us!
Allura: How did they find us?
Lance: I’m not sure, but I bet it’s Keith’s fault.
Keith: Say whatever you’ve gotta say to make yourself feel better. After getting us stuck on the other side of a wormhole!
Lance: I’ll stick you in a wormhole!
Shiro: Stow it, cadets! This is no time to place blame, it’s time to work as a team. How long before they arrive?
Coran: At their speed? Oh, well, uh, carry the two… I’d say probably a couple of days.
Allura: Good. Let them come. By the time they get here, you five will have reformed Voltron, and together, we will destroy Zarkon’s empire.
Hunk: Sorry. Food goo.
Shiro: Princess, there are five of these lions. How are we going to find the rest?
[Transition to the bridge of the Castle of Lions.]
Coran: King Alfor connected the lions to Allura’s life force. She alone is the key to the lions’ whereabouts.
All: Whoa.
Pidge: These are coordinates. The Black Lion looks like it’s in the same location as the Blue Lion.
Coran: Look at your primitive synapses firing away in their little brain cage!
Allura: Very observant. That’s because the Black Lion is in the castle.
Coran: To keep the Black Lion out of Zarkon’s hands, King Alfor locked it in the castle. It can only be freed if the other four lions are present.
Allura: As you have found, the lions choose their pilots. It is a mystical bond and cannot be forced. The quintessence of the pilot is mirrored in his lion. Together, they form something greater than science can explain. The Black Lion is the decisive head of Voltron. It will take a pilot who is a born leader and in control at all times, someone whose men will follow without hesitation. That is why, Shiro, you will pilot the Black Lion. The Green Lion has an inquisitive personality and needs a pilot of intellect and daring. Pidge, you will pilot the Green Lion. The Blue Lion--
Lance: Whoa, hold up, let me guess. Takes the most handsome slash best pilot of the bunch?
Allura: The Yellow Lion is caring and kind. Its pilot is one who puts the needs of others above his own. His heart must be mighty. As the leg of Voltron, you will lift the team up and hold them together. The Red Lion is temperamental and the most difficult to master. It’s faster and more agile than the others, but also more unstable. Its pilot needs to be someone who relies more on instincts than skill alone. Keith, you will fly the Red Lion.
Lance: What? This guy?
Allura: Unfortunately, I cannot locate the Red Lion’s coordinates yet. There must be something wrong with the castle. After ten thousand years, it might need some work.
Coran: Don’t worry, we’ll find it soon. They don’t call me “The Coranic” for nothing. It’s because it sounds like “mechanic.” So… Coranic, mechanic. It’s not--it doesn’t sound… exactly like it. It’s similar.
Allura: Once all the lions are united, you will form Voltron, the most powerful warrior ever known, the Defender of the Universe.
Lance: Awesome.
Pidge: Oh…
Hunk: Wait. Okay, we’re going to be in there and flying lions. Got that part. How do lions turn into legs? Also, is this going to be a long trip? Because I have to pee. Do you people pee?
Shiro: We don’t have much time. Pidge and I will go after the Green Lion. Lance, you take Hunk and get the yellow one. Keith, you stay here. If you locate that Red Lion, go get it.
Allura: In the meantime, I’ll get this castle’s defenses ready. They’ll be sorely needed.
Coran: I’ll ready a pod and load the coordinates so that you can reach the Green Lion.
[Transition to the launch of the lion and the pod.]
Coran: We can only keep the wormholes that lead to the other lions open for two of your Earth hours, so you’ll have to be quick about your work. The good news is that according to my readings, both planets are relatively peaceful. So, if you do get stuck, they could be relaxing places to live out the rest of your lives. Enjoy the trip!
Lance: Wait! What? No!
Hunk: I did not receive the memo on this.
[Scene change to a lush green planet where Shiro and Pidge land.]
Pidge: Look! It’s just a… whatever that thing is. I… uh, I think he wants us to get in his canoe.
Shiro: Then, I guess we should go.
Pidge: Huh.
Shiro: I’ve been locked up by aliens for a year. This is nothing.
Pidge: I wonder if Hunk and Lance are having as good a time as us.
[Cut to a sandy planet, where Hunk and Lance are not having as good a time.]
Hunk: Oh, no! No, no, no! Oh! Oh, no! I thought Coran said these planets were peaceful!
Lance: Maybe “peaceful” means something else in Altean!
Hunk: According to the coordinates, we’re right on top of the Yellow Lion. It’s below there, where they’re mining for the ore. They don’t even know the lion is there. Or maybe they just got here and they’re digging for the lion? What do you think, Lance?
Lance: Who cares? Just go get it! I’m dropping you down there.
Hunk: Me? Down there? No. No, no, no.
Lance: Yes, I’ll cover you.
Hunk, You know, what if the Yellow Lion doesn’t work? W-What if--what if I can’t get in the mine? What if I start crying? It’s too late. I’m already crying!
Lance: Sorry, no time for questions.
Hunk: Oh, yeah, sure, just drop me off in an alien planet. That’s cool, man. It’s only occupied by mean purple aliens that want to kill me, but whatever. Just ignore them and go connect with a big, yellow, mechanical cat. Easy-peasy. Yeah. That all makes a ton of sense to me. Cool.
Hunk: Okay, I’m in a giant hole. Now what, Hunk? Huh? Whoa. Pretty. How am I gonna get through that? Hmm? Hmm...
[Cut to Blue Lion on the surface, then Hunk drilling through the rock, and back to Blue as Lance fights the Galra fighters.]
Lance: Oh, no! Hunk!
[Scene change to Shiro and Pidge on the river with the alien.]
Pidge: I know the princess said this is supposed to be my lion, but what if she’s wrong? I mean, she’s probably not wrong. She’s a princess, but I’m not a pilot, even though I’ve always wanted to be a pilot. I mean, I read all the fighter manuals, but never got to fly the simulator, but, hey, I can’t be all that worse than Lance. He crashed all the time, but what if I get in there and it doesn’t respond? What if I get in there and it’s too big and my feet don’t touch the pedals? What if there aren’t even pedals?
Shiro: You’re rambling. Listen, our commander on the Kerberos mission is the smartest man I ever met and he always said, “If you get too worried about what could go wrong, you might miss a chance to do something great.”
Shiro: Go. Be great.
Pidge: Woo-hoo-hoo!
[Cut to Blue Lion on the sandy planet.]
Lance: Hunk, come on! Please, buddy! Oh, no, no, no, no, no! Going down! We’re going down! Oh, no.
Hunk: You okay, Lance?
Lance: Hunk! I thought you were dead! You jumped in front of all those shots to save my life!
Hunk: Well, actually, I was trying to get out of the way. Thankfully, what this thing lacks in speed, it more than makes up for in armor. Man, can it take a beating! Ooh. We’ve got incoming!
Allura: Paladins, please hurry back. I can’t hold the wormhole much longer.
Lance: Let’s get out of here!
Hunk: Ugh, not this again.
Lance: Quit screwing around, Hunk! The wormhole is closing!
[Cut to the bridge of the Castle of Lions.]
Allura: You made it.
Lance: Yeah, just barely. That was a nightmare. I almost puked out there. I felt like Hunk!
Hunk: Think how I felt. I am Hunk.
Pidge: Yeah, we had a tough time, too.
Shiro: Did we find the Red Lion yet?
Coran: Allura just located it. There’s a bit of good news and bad news. The good news is the Red Lion is nearby. The bad news is it’s on-board the Galra ship now orbiting Arus. But wait, good news again. We’re Arus!
Shiro: They’re here already?
Coran: Yes. Guess my calculations were a bit off. Finger counting is--it’s more of an art than a science. Hmm?
Sendak: Princess Allura, this is Commander Sendak of the Galra Empire. I come on behalf of Emperor Zarkon, Lord of the Known Universe. I am here to confiscate the lions. Turn them over to me, or I will destroy your planet.
Shiro: Alright, let’s not panic.
Hunk: Not panic? The scary purple alien thing is driving his battleship toward us. We only have four lions.
Pidge: Technically, only three working lions.
Hunk: That’s right, thank you, Pidge. Three working lions a-and a castle that’s, like, ten thousand years old.
Coran: Actually, it’s ten thousand and six hundred years old. You see, it was built by my grandfather--
Hunk: Thanks, Coran. Thank you for that. See? Now is the perfect time to panic!
Allura: Wait! This castle has a particle barrier we can activate.
Lance: Girl, you’ve already activated my par--
Shiro: Lance!
Coran: The particle barrier won’t hold Sendak’s ion cannon forever. The Galra technology must have advanced since we fought them last.
Hunk: Panic now?
Shiro: No, we’ve just got to figure out our plan of action, and figure it out quickly.
Lance: I say we pop through a wormhole and live to fight another day.
Hunk: I second that, yes. I mean, we tried to find all the lions, right? We gave it the ol’ college try. Couldn’t do it. We only have three. We can’t form Voltron. I mean, I guess we could form a snake. Or a worm! To go through that hole, Lance, that you were talking about.
Lance: Then, it’s settled. Allura, you ride with me. One of you take the old guy.
Pidge: We can’t just abandon Arus. The Galra will keep destroying planets and capturing prisoners until we stop them.
Hunk: Okay. If we run, then maybe Sendak will follow us and leave this planet alone, like when we left Earth. We form the snake-worm thingamagjig and we--[hisses] out of here.
Keith: Sendak could destroy the planet, then come after us anyway. Staying is our only option.
Lance: Here's an option: shut your quiznak.
Keith: I don’t think you’re using that word correctly.
Lance: What do you know, Mullet?
Keith: We’re staying.
Lance: Leaving!
Pidge: Staying!
Hunk: Snake!
Shiro: Guys, stop! Princess Allura, these are your lions. You’ve dealt with the Galra Empire before. You know what we’re facing better than any of us. What do you think is the best course of action?
Allura: I… I don’t know.
Coran: Perhaps your father can help.
Allura: My father?
[Transition to the computer room that hosts Alfor’s AI.]
Allura: Coran, what is this?
Coran: King Alfor knew that there was a chance he might never see you again. So his memories, his very being, were stored in this computer for you.
Allura: Father! Father, it is so good to see you.
Alfor: Allura, my only child, how I’ve missed your face.
Allura: I’m so frightened. A Galra ship is set to attack, and I don’t know what to do. Please, Father, I need your help.
Alfor: I would do anything to take this burden from you.
Allura: I don’t know if we should run to preserve what we have or stay and risk everything. I want to fight, but the paladins of old are gone. I know what you would do.
Alfor: I scattered the Lions of Voltron to keep them out of Zarkon’s hands. You urged me to keep them and fight, but, for the greater good of protecting the universe, I chose to hide them.
Allura: I think I understand.
Alfor: No, daughter, you were right. I made a terrible mistake, one that cost the universe countless lives. Forming Voltron is the only way to stop Zarkon. You must be willing to sacrifice everything to assemble the lions and correct my error.
[Scene change to Allura entering the bridge once more, looking determined in her flight suit.]
Allura: You five paladins were brought here for a reason. The Voltron Lions are meant to be piloted by you and you alone. We must fight, and keep fighting until we defeat Zarkon. It is our destiny. Voltron is the universe’s only hope. We are the universe’s only hope.
Shiro: We’re with you, Princess.
[Cut to the armory of the castle.]
Allura: Your suits of armor.
Lance: Cool!
Shiro: Outstanding.
Keith: Nice.
Pidge: Oh, neat!
Hunk: Hmm…
Coran: Princess, are you sure about this? They aren’t exactly the best and brightest the universe has to offer.
Allura: No, but they’re all we’ve got.
Shiro: Boys, it’s time to suit up!
Allura: The bayard is the traditional weapon of the Paladins of Voltron. It takes a distinct shape for each paladin.
Lance: Whoo! Aw, you got a cute little bayard.
Pidge: Yeah, it is pretty cute.
Allura: Shiro, I’m afraid your bayard was lost with its paladin.
Shiro: I guess I’ll just have to make do.
[Cut to the bridge.]
Allura: You’ll need to retrieve the Red Lion from Sendak’s ship.
Keith: That’s a pretty big ship. How are we gonna know where the Red Lion is?
Pidge: Well, it’s not a matter of “we.” It’s a matter of “you.”
Hunk: Pidge is right. Once we get you in, you’ll be able to feel its presence and, like, track it down.
Lance: Yeah. You know how you felt that crazy energy while we were in the desert?
Keith: Yeah. You made fun of me for that.
Lance: And I’m proud of that, but turns out it’s exactly like that mumbo-jumbo.
Allura: Keith, the Red Lion is extremely temperamental. You’ll have to earn its respect.
Shiro: Alright. Here’s our plan of attack. The Galra Empire knows about the Blue and Yellow Lion, but they don’t know we have the Green Lion, too.
[Cut to outer space.]
Shiro: Hunk, Lance, you’ll act as a decoy by pretending to give yourselves up.
Lance: Attention, Galra ship. Do not fire. We’re surrendering our lions. Hope this works.
Shiro: While Sendak is distracted, Keith, Pidge, and I will sneak onto the ship in the Green Lion. Keith and I will find the Red Lion while Pidge guards our exit. Hunk, Lance, find some way to take down that ion cannon.
Lance: Pidge, what’s your ETA?
Pidge: We’re in.
Sendak: Activate tractor beam.
Hunk: What’s that thing?
Lance: I think that’s our signal to get out of here!
Sendak: They lied to us. Launch fighters!
Lance: Hunk, you dismantle the ion cannon while I take these jerks on a space ride.
Hunk: Ten-four!
[Cut to inside the Galra ship.]
Shiro: I’ve been here before. After I was taken by the Galra cruiser off Kerberos, they brought us here.
Pidge: So, that means your other crewmembers, they might be held captive here. We… We’ve gotta rescue them.
Shiro: Pidge, we don’t have time. We have to get the Red Lion and get back to Arus.
Pidge: But we can’t just leave prisoners here!
Shiro: Look, no one understands that more than me, but in war, we have to make hard choices. Now, let’s get moving.
Pidge: No! Commander Holt is my father. He and my brother were the ones on the Kerberos mission with you.
Shiro: Commander Holt is your father?
Pidge: Yes. I’ve been searching everywhere for him and my brother and I’m not going to give up looking when I’m this close. I won’t!
Shiro: I’m coming with you.
Keith: What?
Shiro: I remember where the prisoners are held. Keith, you go find the Red Lion.
Keith: By myself?
Shiro: Minor change of plans. You’ll be fine. Just remember, patience yields focus, so--run!
Keith: Great. Now which way?
[Cut to Yellow Lion flying outside the Galra ship.]
Hunk: What the quiznak? What is that? A forcefield?
[Cut to the castle on Arus.]
Allura: Particle barrier up!
Coran: Is that what’s supposed to happen? Oh, the barrier crystals are out of alignment.
Allura: We have to fix it immediately. Without the particle barrier, we’ll be defenseless.
Coran: We’re both too big. What can we do?
Allura: The mice!
Coran: How do they know how to do this?
Allura: I can hear them talking to me. I think our minds are connected. It must be from sharing the sleep pod for ten thousand years. Thank you, friends. Coran, what are you doing?
Coran: I’m trying to get them to make me a sandwich.
[Cut to Keith on the Galra ship.]
Keith: You’ve gotta be kidding me! Patience yields focus. Gotcha.
[Cut to Pidge and Shiro on the Galra ship.]
Shiro: That thing saw us. We should get out of here.
Pidge: Wait, I think this might come in handy. Now I’ll just reset the controls… and it’s working for us! I’m gonna call you Rover. Follow me! Open up.
Shiro: Excellent, Pidge.
Pidge: Dad?
Shiro: Don’t be afraid. We’re here to help you escape.
Prisoner: It’s you… It’s you, the Champion. If anyone can get us out of here, he can.
Shiro: Wh… what did you call me?
Pidge: We don’t have much time. Let’s get to the escape pods.
Shiro: Let’s go. Come on!
[Cut to Lance in Blue Lion.]
Lance: Whoa-ho-ho! Yeah, buddy! This is way more fun without Hunk’s barfing!
[Cut to Keith in a hangar where Red is floating inside a shield.]
Keith: Bingo. Let’s get out of here. Open up. It’s me. Keith. Your buddy. It’s me! Keith, your--I am your paladin! I’m bonding with you! Hey! Come on! We’re connected! You’re not getting this lion! Good kitty. Let’s roll.
[Cut to Shiro and Pidge by an escape pod with the prisoners.]
Pidge: Hurry!
Drone: Halt!
Pidge, distorted: Shiro, what’s wrong?
Prisoner: Thank you, Shiro.
Shiro: Wait! How do you…?
Pidge: Shiro, that was amazing! Where did you learn to fight with that?
Shiro: No idea.
[Cut to Yellow Lion.]
Hunk: Come on, just break, you stupid thing! Score one for Hunk! You guys made it!
Pidge: Kitty Rose has left the stage!
Lance: Let’s get the heck out of here!
Hunk: I hope I stopped that cannon. I could barely make a dent in it.
Haxus: They stole the Red Lion!
Sendak: After them! Either we get those lions or we blow this whole planet to cosmic dust! Fire the ion cannon.
Haxus: Sir, the ion cannon has been damaged.
Sendak: Then send the drones to fix it!
[Cut to the Black Lion’s hangar in the Castle of Lions, then to the bridge.]
Allura: Oh…
Coran: Oh, quiznak!
Allura: Sendak is entering the Arusian atmosphere. We need Voltron now!
[Cut to the bridge of Sendak’s ship.]
Haxus: The ion cannon is back online!
Sendak: Fire!
[Cut to Hunk inside Yellow Lion.]
Hunk: Man, those Galra guys repair things fast.
Coran: The barrier gets weaker with every blast. Once that shield goes down, the castle will be defenseless.
Allura: I can give you cover with the castle defenses for a while, but you have to form Voltron now or we’ll all be destroyed!
Hunk: Jeez, no pressure.
Shiro: Listen up, Team Voltron! The only way to succeed is to give it all you’ve got! This looks bad, but we can do this! Are you with me?
Hunk: I’m nodding. Is everyone else nodding?
Keith, Lance, Pidge: Yes.
Shiro: Let’s do this!
Lance: Uh, how?
Keith: Good question. Does anyone have any ideas of how to form Voltron?
Hunk: I don’t see a “combine into giant robot” button anywhere on my dashboard.
Pidge: This is insane! Can’t they just ceasefire for one minute so we can figure this out? Is that too much to ask?
Keith: We’ve gotta do something!
Hunk: Combine!
Keith: Hey!
Hunk: Okay, that didn’t work.
Allura: Quickly, Paladins! Our energy levels are getting low!
Shiro: Maybe if we fly in formation, we’ll just combine. Take off on my cue. One, two, three, Voltron!
Keith: Here we go!
Lance: Come on, come on!
Shiro: Nothing’s happening.
Lance: Hey, wait, wait, wait. I feel something!
Hunk: I do, too. I feel it. It’s like we’re all being pulled in the same direction!
Shiro: Uh, guys, I think I know why. Look up.
Lance: What the cheese?
Pidge: Sendak’s ship is sucking us in like a black hole!
[Cut to Sendak on the bridge of his ship.]
Sendak: Send a report to Emperor Zarkon: “The day is ours.”
[Cut to the castle, then to Shiro in Black.]
Shiro: Oh, no!
Hunk: I don’t care what you say, Shiro. I’m panicking now!
Pidge: It can’t end here!
Lance: This is it!
Keith: It’s been an honor flying with you boys.
Hunk: Oh, no!
Shiro: No! We can do this. We have to believe in ourselves. We can’t give up. We are the universe’s only hope. Everyone is relying on us. We can’t fail! We won’t fail! If we work together, we’ll win together!
All: Yeah!
[Cut to Sendak on his bridge.]
Sendak: Voltron!
[Cut to Voltron outside the Galra ship.]
Keith: I can’t believe it!
Pidge: We formed Voltron!
Hunk: I’m a leg!
Lance: How are we doing this?
Shiro: I don’t know, but let’s get that cannon!
[Scene change to outside the Castle of Lions at sunset, after their victory.]
Allura: Good work, Paladins!
Lance: Thanks, pretty lady.
Shiro: We did it.
Keith: Heck yeah, we did.
Shiro: How did we do it?
Hunk: I was just, like, screaming the whole time. Maybe that did it.
Shiro: We’re not gonna stop searching until we find your brother and father. Wherever they are, I know they’d be proud of you.
Allura: We won the battle, but the war has only just begun. I’m afraid Zarkon will not stop until he gets these lions.
Coran: Good thing you paladins know what you’re doing, because you’re going to have to form Voltron again and again.
Hunk: Totally. Wait, what?
Lance: We barely survived forming Voltron this one time.
Coran: And you only had to fight one ship. Wait until you have to fight a whole fleet of them! It’s not going to be easy being the Defenders of the Universe.
Shiro: Defenders of the Universe, huh? That’s got a nice ring to it.
End.

The Horizon Calls
sorry for the late, gang!  Early part of the week is my working hours.  But Writer Nonnie came through with another great fic for us and Shiro gets his freedom (ps all of those titles are good titles).  Let the man fly!
___________________________________
((Alternate titles for this fic: Where the sky meets the sea, Going the Distance, Zero to Terminal Velocity. Another sort of feel good one. Enjoy!))
~~~~
The landscape raced by in a blur of earthy tones, dark and cool by the starlight.
Next to him, Ryou was keeping pace.
“Woo!” Ryou hooted. “How you liking the speed Taka?”
“WOOOO!!!” Shiro hooted even louder. His eyes flashed with mischief as he saw an upcoming drop. “Hey! Bet you I can jump that?”
“What!?” Ryou, for once, was the cautious one. “No! No no no! You are not gonna wreck yourself just for a cool stunt!”
“Oh come on!” Shiro argued. “You built it!” With a quick flick of his wrist, the hoverbike went faster and sped ahead. “Let’s see what this baby can do!”
“Taka no!” Ryou was about to follow when Shiro went and flew off the cliff. “TAKA!”
Shiro entered a free fall. The world-no, time itself-seemed to slow to a crawl, almost stopping entirely. The horizon called to him, urging him to keep going. To sprout wings and fly off to where the starry sky meets the earth. Shiro smiled, seeing it.
And then he plummeted down.
Panicking for just a split second, Shiro pulled up just in time to avoid a total crash, though he still managed to buck himself off the vehicle and fall flat on his back, knocking the wind out of him.
“TAKA!” Ryou jumped off the hoverbike before it even stopped and ran over to his brother. “Taka are you okay!? Are you crazy or something!?”
For a moment, as Shiro regained his breath, he looked at Ryou with a smiled, crazed with endless excitement.
“Well, I am related to you after all.” Shiro responded.
Ryou paused and began laughing. “You jerk.” Ryou slapped Shiro’s back, knocking out his air again. “Give me a warning next time will ya?”
Shiro was about to respond with a laugh and another smile when he saw a certain look in Ryou’s eyes. “I’m sorry.”
Ryou shook his head. “You looked like you were happy.” Ryou smiled again, looking up at the cliff.
“I was.” Shiro looked up as well.
“Until you fell.” Ryou nudged him.
“Yeah.” Shiro nudged back.
They paused.
“You wanna go again, don’t you?” Ryou raised an eyebrow and smirked.
“Hell yeah.” Shiro grinned.
“Alright,” Ryou shrugged. “But you have to let me fix it up again.” He looked to their hoverbikes, seeing both were not in the best state. “I didn’t exactly predict you hurling yourself off a cliff when I upgraded it y'know.”
“Okay okay,” Shiro nodded. “Let’s go back. I’m sure they’re looking for us.”
“Yeah.” Ryou nodded as well. “Iverson probably blew a gasket by now.”
They laughed and had a more gentle ride back to the dorms.
……
…………
Shiro looked at the cliff. It was about the same height. It might have even been a few hundred feet higher or so. His speeder was pretty fast, though up and down were still directions he was practicing with it.
“Taka,” Ryou warned. “You’re not thinking what I think you’re thinking right?”
“Oh I am definitely thinking what you think I’m thinking.” Shiro replied.
“Oh no.” Keith sighed.
“Guys come on.” Hunk also sighed. “We’re supposed to be relaxing.”
“This IS how Shiro relaxes.” Keith explained.
“Then let’s stop thinking and start doing.” Ryou suggested.
“If I die, stay away from my grave.” Shiro pointed a finger at Ryou.
“Rockets would look so badass! You can still travel while you’re dead!” Ryou argued.
“No.” Keith growled. “Just…No.”
Shiro sped up the path to the cliff, keeping his speed at a steady pace.
Next to him, Ryou was smiling softly.
“You think you got this one?” Ryou asked.
“Definitely.” Shiro went ahead and sped off the edge.
It was a different world, a different landscape, but still, the horizon called as the world slowed down and paused just enough for Shiro to take it all in.
“Shiro!” Allura worriedly called.
“He’s got this.” Ryou assured her, even as Shiro began to plummet.
The wind swept Shiro’s face as he leaned into the fall. Even the Black Lion seemed to be-no, was- encouraging him.
At a perfectly practiced last second, adjusted for height difference, Shiro pulled up and was off on the trail below. He drifted to a stop where the others were waiting and looked back at the cliff.
“Guess we know where Keith got it from.” Hunk smiled at Keith.
“What can I say.” Keith shrugged and smirked. “I learned from the best.”
“Taka,” Ryou tapped Shiro’s shoulder. “You got that look in your eye.”
“Yep.” Shiro titled his head, not taking his eyes off the cliff.
“Can you show me how to do that jump?” Lance excitedly jumped up to Shiro. “Please?”
Shiro, snapping out of his excitement, blinked in surprise. “O-Oh. Well. It takes a lot of practice to get the timing right.”
“I crashed so many times.” Keith stated matter of fact-ly.
“Impulsive jackasses.” Ryou groaned. “The both of you.” He smiled at Shiro and Keith.
“Hey you still love us.” Shiro smiled back.
“Okay so how about some pointers. Like, a guess-timate of how long we should wait before we do the pull-” Lance began to ask.
“Wait wait wait, we?” Hunk’s eyes widened. “Who said WE were gonna do that jump?”
“Hunkules is right,” Ryou pointed. “Weight difference affects the fall time. Taka and I are six four and thick while you and Keith aren’t.”
“Ahem.” Pidge cleared her throat.
“And the bird is nothing but hollow bones.” Ryou pointed over to her without even glancing. “The moment she starts falling she’ll start flying.”
“Lucky.” Shiro muttered.
“What?” Lance looked to him.
“I said follow me.” Shiro blushed and started back up the trail to the cliff. “I’m sure you’ll figure it out. It’s like the Lion training.”
As they went up the trail like a line of ducklings, Ryou rode a little closer to Shiro.
“Nice save Moon Man.” Ryou smirked.
“Shut it.” Shiro groaned. “Alright, first thing first is the-”
“Oh no you don’t!” Allura, over the comms of their helmets, began with her scolding Mom Voice that sent a chill up all their spines. “All of you are getting back to the Castle this instant!”
“Oh come on Allura!” Lance whined.
Shiro saw another smaller path off to the side that led to a similar but less dangerous drop. “You guys jump that cliff there. I’ll meet you at the Castle.” Shiro sped forward.
“Ryou?” Keith looked to the other twin.
“I’m the Bad Influence, don’t listen to me.” Ryou shrugged and followed Shiro, reaching the cliff just in time to hear his brother cheer as he jumped the cliff again.
Shance and Heith au where hunk sees the pain Keith is going through when Shiro disappears and decides to help him out
Keith is initially suspicious but taken in and eventually smitten. Lance is peeved and doesn't hang out with hunk for a bit but thankfully Pidge is there to knock some sense into him. Lances stops moping around their dorm and has a heart to heart with Hunk. This results in a truce between Keith and Lance.
Keith feels bad for separating Hunk and Lance but he wants to be selfish for once. Especially because that's all he has right now and he knows if it wasn't for Hunk he would have been expelled with all the bs the garrison is coming up with.
So Keith starts trying to be nicer to Lance and in one of his patience yields focus moments he sees beneath the mask lance makes and understands him. Lance is initially shocked but happy their is someone else who can understand him. Hunk is a blessing but only a treatment for the symptoms while Keith is genuinely trying to help him get over the little things he never noticed hurt him. He also does not want to overburden Hunk as Hunk has his own issues and he is glad to see Keith is also helping him.
So now they are close and because this wouldn't've happened without Pidge they try to include them in their shenanigans. Eventually they chip through that armor but then the incident happens. One of the instructors (maybe Iverson) is bringing up insecurities in Lance public humiliation to make an example style (a style I hate for so many reasons). They were going over stuff that he is working on and Keith refused to let Lance feel hurt again and fall back. Keith swings several times and gets escorted out/expelled as Lance and Hunk are being held back so they can't help him.
Blue calls for him but this time he has help from the other three because instead of sneaking out to have fun they sneak out to visit him and give him supplies from the garrison. They also find blues cave faster but since its not time yet the rubble doesn't break. Lance likes visiting the cave when he can because while initially he thought it was a ghost talking to him, she doesn't seem so bad and even sounds a lot like Keith. The crew is dubious and not so sure Lance should be talking to a ghost but Keith doesn't have a bad feeling and Pidge just wants to find the body for science.
Now enter shiro!
They are able to save him with a similar plan but Lance has his own speedster and the 2 teams get away going down the same cliff like last time and go to the shack. Feeling angsty Keith and Hunk go for a ride and cuddle session. Keith entrusts Shiro to Lance and Pidge because thats' how close the group is. Shiro is still feeling hazy and wakes up to Lance taking care of him. He blurts out if all angels are as beautiful as they are gentle before smiling at lance and going back to sleep.
Pidge is just snickering while lance is blushing and stuttering. When Keith and Hunk come back Pidge lets them know they are in the presence of a divine being and all make fun of him for a bit before checking in on Shiro. Shiro wakes up again with Keith next to him and start asking if it's a dream. Keith lets him know its not and the broganes cuddle as they catch up.
They wonder if the cave will open up now and go back when Shiro is well recovered. He is also a lil pink around Lance and Lance is also a lil pink around him but acts like his usual self. He just has a lil more bravado around Shiro. He doesn't bring up the angel thing because he thinks it was just the meds talking but the comment made him happy.
Shiro doesn't bring up the angel comment because he us not sure where lances preference lead and refuses to make him feel uncomfortable. It also doesn't help when he flirts with Allura when they meet. Keith notices Shiro is acting a little off but doesn't know if its because of his time in captivity
Pidge also lets them know earlier that shes a girl since the team as a whole is close, or closer than in the show at least. Shiro and lance are usually found together while Hunk and Keith are officially together.
Lance still flirts and it bothers Shiro until Keith has a little talk with him. He gives him the don't hurt Lance talk and to be patient because he knows his best friend. Yes they are best friends, or best rivals depending on who you ask. And he knows for a fact that Lance likes him in more than just a friend way.
And shiro us like what me?! He likes me???!!!! Keith is like yea doofus. Now remember he is strong but has a fragile heart and now go ask his other father for his blessing. By that he means Hunk
Shiro is initially puzzled but then realizes how Keith is actually wingmaning him. He thinks first before going to Hunk. He knows Hunk is the closest he can get to Lances family and will ask permission to date Lance. That is if lance will take him, and if lance is ready. Hunk is quiet for a moment just looking at him before he rushes him.
Shiro closes his eyes waiting for the punch but gets a really warm hug. Hunk lets him go and tells him how he is happy and knows Shiro will make Lance happy. He follows up with one of the most intimidating hurt him and I will not hurt you. Instead i will take you to his family who will then hurt you so much you will wish for many unpleasant things until your end. So keep Lance happy new friend.
Shiro doesn't worry because he knows that making Lance happy is the only way he would be happy. So now Shiro is off to find ways to show Lance he is cared for and eventually romance him. When the attack on the castles crystal happens Shiro is devastated but understands where Lance is coming from. Once recovered he knows he will tell Lance how important he is to not only him but to the team
When Lance wakes up the whole crew is there but Shiro is the one to catch him. Everyone is happy to see him well but they leave them after a while to give them privacy. The two become official and i don't know what happens from there.
The Violet Paladin (Keith x Reader) Ch 1
Summary: (Y/n) was just a normal girl with a normal life. She’s always been a dreamer looking to the stars and the future. When one fateful night changes her whole life what secrets lie beyond in the unknown?
[masterlist]
Word Count: 2447
It was just a normal day of classes at the garrison. I was standing in the back watching my best friend Katie and her teammates fly, unsuccessfully I might add... the simulator, which had resulted in a failure. I watched as Commander Iverson slammed open the pod door and yelled at the trio to get out. He used them as an example of a bad team.
Comparing them to my own team I think they're better than us. I'm on the team of Ina and Jacob, I hardly knew either of them before getting teamed up and even still I don't know much other than the basics like their flying and comm skills. I'm the team's engineer, I hope after I graduate I'll be able to help build new ships with my idea's.
I had been so zoned out in my thought's that I hadn't realized it was finally my teams turn in the simulator. Unlike with Katie's team, we hadn't crashed or anything so the rest of the class was as uneventful as usual. Thinking about it, it wasn't always like this. It used to be kind of fun, though I never really got to see it being in the engineer's class I had always heard of these two boys, I only learned the name of one, which was Keith because we were in a class together but he got kicked out not long ago.
He used to be one of the perfect models for when I was drawing, having this look about him that made it seem like he was never really here. I probably have more drawings of him than I'm willing to admit but I could help it. I grabbed my backpack with my drawing pad, pencils, and some snacks to go meet Katie on the roof. It had become a nightly routine for us, ever since she sneaked in after her father and brother went missing. I would spend the time sitting next to her either sketching the sky or when I listened to her machine I'd try to sketch what I imagined the voices to look like.
Tonight wasn't going to be any different, I walked onto the roof seeing I was alone I plopped down dangling my feet over the edge and grabbed my sketch pad and a pencil. I began drawing as I heard footsteps behind me and a heavy backpack sat next to me.
I looked over to see Katie. She quickly set up her machine and plugged in the headphone to listen.
"I hope we find out what Voltron is." She said with her eyes closed. "Me too, If it's as dangerous as I think it is, I hope those people we hear never find it," I told her. I went back to sketching the stars again but was soon after interrupted.
"You know it's not polite to ignore your girlfriend." I heard the familiar voice speak from behind. I turned to see none other than Lance and Hunk. "Oh, Lance, Hunk..." It seemed like it took her a moment to register what he had said, "For the last time we're not dating!"
"We're just looking at the stars," I told the Cuban teen. He'd looked pasted Pidge and me to see her tech.
"Man where'd you get that stuff it doesn't look like garrison tech at all," Lance remarked.
"I built it," Pidge smirked.
"You built all this?" Hunk slowly approached her gear to touch it but was slapped away.
"With this puppy, I can scan all the way to the edge of our solar system," She proudly started.
"All the way to Kerberos?" Lance retorted, Pidge immediately shrunk at the mention of that. "You go ballistic anytime a teacher mentions it!" I turned to Lance, "There are just things you don't understand," I took the liberty to slap Hunk's hand away for the second time.
"Well Pidge, if we're gonna bond as a real team we can't have any secrets and it seems like you're most comfortable with (Y/n) so we can bring her along too," Lance gave me one of his looks like he was trying to flirt with me, I had only known the looks cause I've seen him use them on other girls in the garrison. "Fine..." Pidge sighed. "The world as you know it is about to change," She had a sad look in her eye.
"The Kerberos mission wasn't lost because of pilot error or otherwise-"
"STOP TOUCHING MY EQUIPMENT!" Pidge shouted angrily at Hunk. You took note of this to keep an extra close eye on your sketch pad. "Anyways," She said after calming down, "I've been scanning the system and picking up alien radio chatter," She turned to look at Lance.
"Woah! Wait, Alien?!" Hunk panicked.
"Okay, so you're both insane," Lance crossed his arms and glared at us. "We're serious," I matched his glare.
"They've just been repeating one thing, and that's Voltron, and from what I've heard tonight it's been going crazier than ever," Pidge informed them.
"How crazy?" Lance questioned. We were interrupted by Iverson over the P.A. system
"What's going on?" Hunk looked around. "Is that a meteorite?" He pointed out something in the sky.
"Can't be," I mumbled.
"It's a ship!" Pidge announced.
"Holy cow! I can't believe what I am seeing! It's not one of ours,"
"That's because it's one of theirs," I almost wanted to smirk.
"So wait there really are aliens out there?" Hunk began to freak out yet again. Pidge and I immediately packed up and started to leave.
"I've gotta see that ship!" She cheered.
"Hunk come on!" Lance called following us.
The four of you sat on rocks near the base they set up but far enough away that we wouldn't be caught. I watched as Pidge hacked their systems to get a look inside. We watched Shiro on the feed surrounded by men in hazard suits. We had all perked up at the mention of Voltron from Shiro.
"We need to get down there and save him," I said.
"Hate to be the bearer of bad news but weren't we watching on this because there's no way to get down there past those guards?" Hunk pleaded.
"That was before we were properly motivated. Now we just gotta think. Could we tunnel in?" Lance was talking to himself. We all bounced ideas of how to get in (Or to go back to the dorms in Hunk's case), before agreeing on needing a distraction. That's when you heard explosions in the distance.
"Like that!" Lance shouted. Hunk began to freak out thinking it was aliens.
"No, that was a distraction," You commented.
"Yeah, for him," Pidge pointed out someone approaching from opposite of where the garrison had left.
"Oh no way, that guy is always trying to one-up me!" Lance shouted looking through the binoculars.
"Who?" Hunk asked as Lance jumped down.
"Keith!" Lance shouted as Hunk followed him down.
"Who's Keith?" Pidge asked, then turned to me since I was the only one with her still.
"He got kicked out," I told her as we followed the boys. When we made it down everyone but Lance (who ran in) stayed by the entrance and watched the exchange between him and Keith.
Pidge, Hunk and I all kept watching for a minute while Lance and Keith carried Shiro back to Keith's hoverbike.
"Is this thing going to be big enough for all of us?" Pidge asked.
"No," Keith replied. Lance handed Shiro over to Pidge and I as he sat on the wing. Keith quickly took off with the Garrison not far behind us. I helped Pidge keep Shiro on the bike as Keith was telling Hunk what to do to get the officers off our trail. So far it was successful except for one very persistent pursuer.
"Guys it that a cliff up ahead?" Hunk asked.
"Yup." Keith almost playfully said as he speeds up with us all screaming no.
"You're gonna get us all killed!" Lance shouted.
"Just trust me!" Keith said. How we survived that I may never know but we did.
Keith drove to a small shack in the middle of nowhere and parked, by this time it was almost morning and Shiro had woken up.
Everyone except Keith and Shiro was inside just kind of talking. "You realize how much trouble we will be in when we go back right?" I asked. We all remained silent for a moment that's when Keith and Shiro walked in.
Keith walked over to a board covered by a white sheet and ripped it off to reveal a bunch of pictures and diagrams.
"What is this?" Shiro asked.
"I don't really know, I've been working on it basically since I was booted from the Garrison, like some energy out here was telling me to search,"
"For what exactly?" I slightly zoned out from the conversation as I looked at the picture of the lion carvings. I only started paying attention again when I saw Shiro had turned to us.
"I guess I should thank you all, Lance right?" He shook Lance's hand. Then turned to Pidge, Hunk and I.
"(Y/n)," I shook his hand as well.
"The nervous guy is Hunk I'm Pidge," She introduced herself. "So did anyone else from your crew make it out?"
"I'm not sure. The last things I remember are the mission and when we got captured, other than that it's just bits and pieces,"
"Yeah sorry to interrupt but back to the aliens. Where exactly are they now?" Hunk began to panic yet again.
"I can't really put it together, I just remember "Voltron", Its some weapon they're searching for, but I think we need to find it before they do,"
"Well, last night I was rummaging through Pidge's stuff," As soon as I heard that come from Hunk's mouth I clutched mine tighter. "I found this picture, look it's his girlfriend," He chuckled a bit.
"Hey, give me that! Why were you in my stuff?" She asked him.
"I was looking for snacks."
"Did you go through mine?" I asked.
"No," He replied "Anyway's I found these series of number that looks like a Fraunhofer Line,"
"A what?" Keith asked.
"It's a number that describes the emission spectrum of an element, that is not found on earth, So it might be this Voltron and I can probably build a machine to look for it," Hunk quickly explained. "The wavelength looks like this," He pulled out a paper which Keith took and held to his board and it matched up with a series of rock formations.
After Hunk built his machine the six of us traveled out there and followed Hunk and Pidge to a cave with more drawings of the lions. I looked at each one, they were all fascinating. When they started to glow, I backed up a bit when the floor crumbled. We all screamed as we were on almost like a water slide and landed in a little pool of water at the bottom.
"Ow," I mumbled and looked up to see a lion.
"Is this it?" Pidge asked.
"It must be," Shiro said.
"This has got to be what's been causing all this crazy energy out here," Keith walked towards it.
"There's a force field around it." I said, "And probably for a good reason." I mumbled the last part, everyone had already started walking towards it I sighed and followed. Keith put his hands on the force field.
"I wonder how we get through?" He asked no one.
"Maybe we just have to knock?" Lance knocked and the Lion roared to life it seemed like we all had the same vision of six lions forming one giant mecha.
"Whoa," We all said.
"This is only one part of Voltron," Shiro said.
"I wonder where the rest are?" Pidge questioned. The lion lowered down and opened its mouth.
"Hey we probably shouldn't," I started but Lance already ran inside. "Touch anything..." as everyone else walked up.
"Come on (y/n)," Pidge said, I walked up behind her and into the head. The controls all powered on and were in a language we couldn't understand. I stood in the back between Keith and Shiro.
"Okay, guys, I feel like I need to point out just so we're all aware, we're in some kind of futuristic alien cat head right now," Hunk said.
"Whoa did you guys just hear that?"
"What?" Keith asked.
"I think it's talking to me," Lance turned to look at the controls.
"Wait Lance don't touch anything," I said but too late he already started to push buttons.
"Don't worry I've got this," He said and blasted out of the cave and started flying crazily. I grabbed the nearest thing, which happened to be Keith who was also holding onto something for dear life.
"You are the worst pilot ever!" Keith yelled.
"This is awesome!" Lance cheered.
"Make it stop!" Hunk pleaded.
"I'm not making it do anything,"
"Where are you going?" Keith asked as we took off towards space.
"I just said I'm not doing anything, it says there is an alien ship approaching Earth I think we're supposed to stop it," Lance said.
"What did it say exactly?" Pidge asked.
"It's not saying words just idea's... Kinda,"
"If that's them and this is what they're coming for maybe we should just give it to them," Hunk said.
"You don't understand, these monsters spread like a plague through the galaxy, giving them this won't stop them," We all glared at Hunk who shrunk back. As we turned back, we were face to face with a large Alien cruiser which began firing at us.
Lance avoided the blasts. "Okay, I think I know what to do,"
"Be careful man this isn't the simulator!" Pidge warned.
"Oh, good, cause I always crash those," Lance said. That didn't make any of us feel any better but Lance shot a beam from the lion and attacked it before flying us away from the planet and towards deep space. We passed Kerberos and we were all in shock, and a wormhole had opened in the distance. "Where does it go?" Pidge asked.
"I don't know, Shiro, you're the senior officer, what should we do?" We all turned to Shiro.
"I don't know what's happening but the lion seems to know more than we do, so, for now, we should trust it. However we're a team now, so we decide together," We were all silent but it seemed like we agreed to go through the wormhole was the best option.
Purple Comes From Red And Blue Chapter One
prologue
chapter one:  in which the Naughty Boi takes the Pure and Nerd Bois on a ride, and aliens happen (part one of two)
ship(s): klance as a fusion, eventual klunk
word count: 3,883
tws/cws: running away, being yelled at/ridiculed by authority figures, aliens??? is that a trigger???, syringes, medical experiments, non-consensual experimentation
Our story begins with a flight simulator in the most prestigious astro-explorer academy in the world, the Galaxy Garrison.
A dark-haired boy in an orange, white and grey flight suit grabs a walkie-talkie from its stowage point above him, “Galaxy Garrison flight log 5-11-14. Begin descent to Kerberos for rescue mission.” He tilts the control stick on his dashboard forward.
“Ugh. Klance, can you keep this thing straight?” A large Samoan boy in the same flight suit exclaims, hands moving frantically over a screen in front of him. He retches, nauseous, as the ship swerves.
Our pilot, Klance, is a tall boy with dark brown, almost black, hair and pale brown skin. “Relax, Hunk,” presumably the engineer behind him, “I’m just getting a feel for the stick. Besides, it’s not like I did this!” Klance jerks the control stick sharply to the right. The ship swerves in that direction, tossing its contents around wildly.
“Klance, stop it, unless you want to be stuck on cleaning duty again! I will throw up!” Hunk grabs the dashboard in front of him, stomach lurching. Klance huffs an annoyed sigh, but complies, shifting the controls for a smoother flight. A disruptive beeping sounds from the walkie-talkie that the communications officer has hanging on a small perch above them. The smaller figure, pale and slender with wide owlish eyes, calls out to the rest of their team, “Klance, we’ve picked up a distress beacon!” they peer over at the pilot, who somehow manages to exude an aura of nonchalant confidence while also having taut muscles and a focused expression.
“Look alive, team! Pidge, track coordinates.” The communications officer- Pidge, their name was- turns back to their console, muttering their assent, just as the ship begins shaking again; the overhead fluorescent lights flash red and alarms blare from every speaker.
Hunk groans, clutching at his mouth and pushing his monitor away from him. The craft rumbled and shook again, “Knock it off, Klance, please!” he complains, lurching in his seat.
Klance sends a sharp look Hunk’s way, “Oh, this one’s on you, buddy. We’ve got a hydraulic stabilizer out, and, last I checked, that was your area of expertise, not mine.” He turns back to the front window of the craft.
Hunk pulls his monitor back to himself before leaning forward and clamping a hand over his mouth. “Oh, no-” his stomach lurches again and Hunk barely avoids retching.  Klance groans, running a hand through his dark hair and rolling his eyes- a kind-of dark indigo-blue.
“Nope! Fix now, puke later, Hunk!” He refocuses intently on the screen. Pidge calls out to their team that they've lost the signal because of the shaking. “It’s interfering with our sensors!”
Klance drives the base of his palm into his temple, chastising his nauseous teammate as he returns to the screen in front of him. “Ah, nevermind, boys, thar she blows!"
Fatal last words, he thinks, standing in front of Iverson and taking his shit yet again.
"You are the most incompetent officers I've ever seen in this program, and what's more, the worst team! This kind of shit is what cost the lives of the men on the Kerberos mission!" Klance (literally) glowed in anger at that, their two souls dangerously close to splitting. Keith nearly punched Iverson, and Lance barely held them together and shoved a hand over the indignant mouth of his crewmate, Pidge. "Tomorrow'd better be the best run you've ever had or so help me god, you won't live to see the end of this program!" Klance winces at his harsh tone, flinching as spit falls on his face with the end of his sentence. "Get out of my sight," he growls.
"NEXT!"
That night, Klance and Hunk sneak out.
Hunk bites his fingernails, looking around nervously as he and Klance creep down the halls. "This is a bad idea- This- This right here? This is a really bad idea." Klance makes an offhanded, nonchalant noise in response, opening the roof door with a creak. Hunk winces at the sound, head whipping back to see if anyone heard.
A lone figure rests there, hunched intently over a bright screen of numbers. Large headphones engulf a good bit of their head. Klance tiptoes over to them, eyes widening in surprise at the figure being Pidge, then smiles impishly, reaching out one hand to yank off the headset. "You come up here to test your cryptid theories?" Pidge's head turns so fast it gives them whiplash, flailing in the air and losing their balance onto the concrete roof.
"Wha- I- No- What are you doing here? You're the one always complaining about your beauty sleep."
Klance mumbles to himself, "Keith's the one who never washes his goddamn face, but sure,"
Hunk looks at him weirdly, "Dude, what'd you say?"
"Uhh, nothing?"
"Sure, Jan."
"Anyway, what're you doing up here? Shouldn't you be, uhh... Doing... Something? Look, I'm not good at this, okay?" Klance rambles, reaching down to his waist to fiddle with something, but it's not there. He looks almost worried before seeming to remember something.
All this is observed by Hunk, resident goofball, and crusher on friend of Klance. He and Klance met on the first day at Garrison, and they've been roommates ever since. Granted, they were governmentally mandated roommates, but they got along happily besides! Hunk has a moderate anxiety disorder, and Klance is usually great with helping him out with it. (In the sims, he got really weirdly focused and couldn't deal with anyone's anxiety but his own, but otherwise he was really good about it.) Hunk suspected that Klance had some sort of behavioural disorder, as he displayed symptoms of ADHD, but found it difficult to remember social cues occasionally.
However, that didn't stop him from being an absolute living meme, and Hunk truly enjoyed being in his crush's friend's company.
"So, what're you even doing up here anyway?" Hunk is jolted out of his reverie by Klance peering over Pidge's shoulder at their code.
"You wouldn't understand. Or take me seriously, for that matter."
"Try me."
Pidge sighs, "We're not alone in this universe. Now, I know what that sounds like, with me being an avid cryptid fan, but, seriously." They grow somber. "I've been scanning the solar system, and picking up alien radio chatter."
Hunk shook his head, "What? So- so you mean, like, aliens? They exist?"
Klance looked both skeptical and enthused at the same time, if that was possible. He settled on enthused. "Ahh! Oh my gosh, really? That's so cool! Show me!" He slips on a pair of headphones, his eyes growing brighter as he hears the supposed '"alien radio chatter."
"They've been repeating one word: Voltron."
"Really?"
"Mhm."
"Awesome!"
Their nerding out is interrupted by a bright spot on the horizon. Klance snatches up a pair of binoculars of Pidge's, staring up at the dot of fire. "That ship is not one of ours!" He exclaims, Hunk panicking in the background. It crashes with an explosion behind a hill near the Garrison building.
"We've gotta go check it out!" Pidge jumps up, packing up their tech and running back to the roof door.
"I don't know..." Hunk mumbles.
"C'mon, Hunk! Think of it as a team-building excercise!" Klance dashes after them.
"Oh, this is the worst team-building excercise ever." Hunk grumbles, reluctantly following the pair.
 They set up shop on a cliff ledge overlooking the place where the ship crashed. Pidge has their tech out, graphing data from the crash; Klance looks at the crash site, overrun by med techs and officers, through binoculars; Hunk bites his nails worriedly behind them, occasionally commenting on their collected data.
"What the heck's even in that ship?" Klance asks himself, wincing as Keith has a different opinion than Lance. His- Their fingers glow, and hethey struggles to keep it together.
"Dude, you good?"
"Uhh..." They pull their sleeves over their fingers. "Yeah, all good!" Klance says, high-pitched with the lie, feeling the glow subside as they reassimilate. They- he's going to have to defuse soon. Staying fused after nearly unfusing isn't good for them- him.
"Sure, Jan."
Klance leans over Pidge's shoulder. "How's it coming on that security footage?"
Their eyes are trained completely on the screen. "Almost there... c'mon... got it!" The screen fills with a live feed of inside the ship.
[Shirogane struggles against restraints.]
'You've got to listen to me! Aliens are coming!'
 "Whoa." Klance jerks back from the screen. "That's Takashi Shirogane! The best pilot at the Garrison!" Pidge looks like they want to argue, but stays quiet as Klance continues his rant. "And is that Matt Holt? And they're not even going to listen to them? How dumb can you get?" Klance is shushed and the quartet trio returns to the screen.
"The subjects appear to have cyborg prosthetics, sir. One with an arm, the other a leg."
"Put them under until we find out what those things can do."
"No, no, don't put me under! You have to listen to me! Listen to me-"
[Shirogane's voice cuts off, strangled, as a med tech injects a syringe into his arm. Next to him, another humanoid flails wildly, being put under a similar procedure. The second subject is identified as Matt Holt, though he stays silent.]
Pidge looks up, wide-eyed, to Klance- except Klance isn't there, he's sprinting towards the ship. Pidge calls out to him, but he's too far. As Klance knocks out the guards with a few well-placed punches, Pidge settles for watching the live feed of the med room.
The med techs inside are taken out swiftly, and Klance lifts both of the patients up- seriously, this guy has the strength of two men- and hefts them out of the ship.
Pidge watches as they exit. Klance picks up a small, round item out of his pocket and lobs it in the opposite direction. A small explosion rocks the area there soon after. He makes his escape swiftly, grabbing an unused Jeep and tossing the pair in. "Pidge! Hunk! C'mon!" He hops in the driver's seat, and Pidge and Hunk race down the hill to meet them.
Sometime along the bumpy journey over sand dunes and rocks, Pidge realizes something. "Do you even know where you're going?" They shout over the motor, sand spraying their face.
He yells back something garbled that sounds like, "No, but Keith should!" and they know they've misheard.
"What?"
"I said, uh, I think I should!"
"Oh, okay!"
It's got to be three in the morning, the moon shining over the Arizona desert, when they finally reach a little middle-of-nowhere, dilapidated shack that looks like it's falling apart slowly under sand spray and wind erosion.
Pidge gives zero fucks, however, and drags Matt in, collapsing on a couch and passing out. Hunk does similarly on a loveseat. Klance situates Shiro on the floor, dragging a couple blankets onto him before going to Keith's tiny, cramped room and defusing.
Lance barely stumbles into Keith's arms before dragging them both into the tiny double trundle bed and tangling their legs together, kissing him sloppily once and passing out five seconds later.
Pidge wakes up with a crick in their neck and a taste like old lemons in their mouth. They yawn and open their eyes blearily, pinching sleep out of their eyes. They snatch up their glasses, smiling in relief at Matt's sleeping form, silhouetted by the desert sunrise. Shiro is curled up next to him, and their hands are clasped together like a lifeline. Pidge chooses to ignore that fact, looking around the small, shabbily furnished room. Something looks a little off, though, and it takes their sleep-addled brain a second to catch up to their surroundings.
Where's Klance?
Memories from last night come rushing in. How did Klance even know this was out here? Is it his?
Pidge shoves themself up forcefully from the couch they passed out on, wandering on unsteady legs down a tiny hallway that has three doors. One is ajar, grimy tile and porcelain visible in the dim light of a bulb on the ceiling that fizzles out soon after they turn it on. The other is a small closet, filled with supplies like rope, a ladder, and is that a hatchet?
The last room is firmly shut, and, upon further inspection, is locked with a rusty bolt used well beyond its years. A strong scent of coffee wafts from the room. This must be Klance's room. They knock, "Klance? Y'in there?"
Klance's voice shouts back at them, "Uh, yeah! Be out in a bit!" His voice seems off. It's too gravelly, too masculine, although that could be attributed to waking up.
Inside the room, Keith sighs in relief in tandem with Lance. "C'mon, Lance. Let's fuse." His voice is bored and tired, but the creases in his face light up when he says the word fuse. For them, it's the ultimate form of intimacy and closeness, something physical contact just can't compare to. Opening your mind, being vulnerable to your partner and sharing your entire self with them- it's perfect to them.
Lance makes grabby hands at Keith, pulling him close and giggling at his truly elegant squawk of surprise. Lance presses himself against Keith, and then they're not Lance and Keith, not two separate beings, they're one. Klance.
Klance shrugs on a black t-shirt and Lance's green army jacket, undoing the bolt on the door and stretching. He slips on a pair of flip-flops, trudging towards the kitchen and setting a pot of coffee. He mutters a greeting to Pidge, dutifully ignoring their questions about their location, and fries up some bacon and scrambled eggs. Toast? In the toaster. Plates? On the table. Hotel? Trivago.
Pidge pours the coffee on Klance's request, refilling the pot and handing out mugs to people. Hunk is shaken awake, and Shiro is woken up by the smell of coffee. He and Matt sit quietly in the corner, sipping coffee and watching their surroundings warily.
The strange congregation perches on various bits of furniture, eating quietly, when Pidge pipes up, "Okay. Enough's enough. Where are we?"
Klance sighs. "This belonged to my parents." It's not technically a lie.
Pidge raises an eyebrow, "I thought your parents were from Cuba. They pick you up every year."
Lie, lie, lie. Deflect, deflect. "Uh... a couple generations ago, the conquistadors came here and a couple eloped?"
"The conquistadors were Spanish."
"Fuck."
"It's mine," Shiro puts in. "I gave it to K- Klance before I 'went off gallivanting into space,' as your mother would put it." He smiles weakly.
Pidge rounds on him, "You know Klance? From where?"
"Hey, hey, let's calm down. We don't need to know all the answers at once," Matt puts in sleepily. Pidge practically vaults over the table to get to him.
"Matt! You're okay! What happened to your leg? I knew you were alive! They kept saying you were dead but I never believed them, oh my god, Matt, you're alive!"
"Yeah, I noticed." Matt says tiredly, giving Pidge a sloppy hug and ruffling their hair.
After breakfast, Klance puts their ragtag team into employ to... drumroll please... Clean the cabin! They all work together, and, with some music from Klance's iPod (all his stuff is purple, red or blue. It's creepy, almost. Like those colours mean something. -Pidge, making observations as they enter the rich life of a Garrison student.), they make quick work of it.
 After they've finished cleaning, the group drapes themselves over a variety of furniture. Pidge spies a sheet covering something in a corner. Unable to sate their curiosity otherwise, they walk up to it, yanking down the sheet and gasping at the board behind it. Pictures connected by strings and charts and graphs cover the corkboard. Star charts depict the exact date and time that Shiro and Matt arrived. Pictures and data readings of a giant mechanical thing litter its surface.
"Hey, Klance?"
"Yeah, Pidgeotto?"
"What's this?"
"Shit."
"Alright, everyone! Gather round, children, because it's time for Uncle Klance to tell you a story," Klance calls the group to sit in a semicircle around the closest chair to the corkboard. "Okay. So, I've been sneaking out at night." It's not technically a lie, because Keith had been sneaking out to the shack and Lance had entertained his "crackpot conspiracy theories." "But, while Hunk-a-burnin'-love over here thought I was sucking dick, I was actually coming out here. There's this crazy energy out here. It felt... Almost like it was calling me to search. So I did. And I found this cave with these weird lion carvings."
Pidge jumps up, "Do you think that that's Voltron? Weird energy, that could be aliens."
Hunk hums, considering. "Could be. Do you have proof?"
"Yeah. I've been tracking the energy. It's a tangible thing, like something on the periodic table. It's not any element I've ever seen before, though."
"Maybe I could build something to look for it, like a Voltron Geiger counter."
"Sure. The wavelength is so weird. It looks like this." Klance holds up a sheet of graphing paper with a seemingly random red line on it.
Matt snaps his fingers, "Give me that!" He snatches the paper, muttering an apology as he lifts it up to a picture of the cliffs near the cave. The red lines up with the outline of the cliffs almost exactly.
Hunk whistles. "Creepy, my man."
------
The group treks through craggy terrain made of crumbling reddish rock. Hunk and Pidge have a complicated setup of wires and junk parts going. Although the sound of the makeshift tech is annoying, the group follows with minimal complaint (apart from Klance, who says what Keith's thinking with Lance's attitude.). They approach a cave, Klance leading the way once he starts recognizing landmarks ("Ooh! I remember busting my ankle on that rock!" -Klance. "Dude, that's why you couldn't walk for a week?" -Hunk. "Oh, I thought he just got really fucked out." -Pidge. "Language!" -Shiro. "Yeah, watch your fucking language, kiddies." -Matt.)
The group stands at the mouth of the cave, peering down into the dank, dripping gloom. "Well!" Klance bounds forward, "This is the cave, so, if you'll excuse the miscellaneous coffee cups, various pieces of tech and other junk lying around, let's go!"
Matt shoves his hands into the pockets of his borrowed hoodie, looking at the cool carvings everyone is gawking over. "I don't see what's so special about carved rock," Matt says, wiping the dust and rock debris from one of the carvings of a lion.
A piercing noise, not unlike a sound effect in a show or movie, emits from the walls, and the carvings glow bright blue. The blue energy spiderwebs across the cavern floor like cracks, and that's about when the floor collapses and they all splash down into a lower level in the cavern.
In a gigantic blue bubble- the same colour as the carvings glowed- lays an equally gigantic blue mechanical lion. Klance hums and steps forward. Shiro gasps. "So this is what's been causing all this crazy energy out there."
Pidge gulps and rubs their eyes, "So this is it? This is the Voltron?"
Klance shrugs, "Must be-"
Five lions, a voice rumbles in their minds, deep and timeless. Five lions become one. Six souls, one bond. Deeper than life itself. The bond of the lion. Voltron.
"Did everyone else just see that?"
"Voltron is a robot. Voltron is a huge, huge, awesome robot!"
"And this is only one part of it. I wonder where the rest of them are!"
Klance steps forward, pressing his hands against the bubble, "Now, I wonder how we can get in here."
Matt shrugs. "Maybe you just have to knock?" He raps his fingers against the bubble, jumping back when it disappears and the lion's head moves down to him, opening its jaw. He laughs. "Well, alrighty then," smirks, and walks up the platform.
Klance glows blue and red behind him.
-------
"You," Klance says between gasping breaths. "Are the worst. Pilot. Ever!"
"Pidge has told me that you thought I was one of the best pilots at the Garrison, so, like..."
"Shut your fuuUCK!" Klance trips on his own feet in the cramped cockpit.
       Iverson and a lower-ranked officer stand on the roof, a pair of binoculars shared between them.
"What in the Sam Hill is that?"
"It appears to be a flying blue lion, sir."
Matt grins back at the others. "Isn't this awesome?"
Hunk makes a motion as if to vomit. "Make it stop! Make it stop!"
"I'm not doing anything. It's like it's on autopilot!"
The blue lion soared ever higher.
"MAKE IT STOP!"
"I just said, it's on autopilot!"
"Hey, what's that up ahead?"
"Holy crap- is that an alien ship?"
"They found us."
Matt tries to steer the lion as best he can. He feels a rumbling in his chest- like the lion is trying to speak with him- and he listens. "Guys the lion is talking to me. It says we need to fight the alien ship."
"Okay, you're crazy," Klance grumbles.
"What did it say, exactly?" Pidge asks, short of breath.
"I- It's not like it's saying words, more like feeding ideas into my brain, kind of."
Hunk spoke up. "Well, if this is the weapon they want, why don't we just, like, give it up? Then they'll leave us alone, right?"
Shiro glares at him. "You don't understand. These monsters spread like a plague throughout the galaxy, destroying everything in their path. They won't stop until everything is dead, and giving them this weapon won't help anyone."
 Everyone turns to look at Hunk.
"...Oh. Nevermind, then."
The Galra ship, which previously was lying cold and dead in space, opens fire at them as they breach the atmosphere.
"We have to get that ship out of here!" Pidge says frantically.
"Okay, I'll try!" Matt says, shooting lasers and avoiding recapture, moving away from Earth.
Inside the ship, a Galra officer faces a large screen. "Lord Zarkon, the escaped prisoners and their people found the lion. It attacked us and is heading out of the system."
On the screen, Zarkon's magnified face says, "Follow that Lion and alert all ships in the area to intercept. Capturing that Lion is your first and only priority."
"Yes, your majesty." The call ends, and the galra turns their head back. "FULL POWER AFTER THE LION!"
       The lion speeds away, the Galra ship in close pursuit. Hunk bites his nails. "Oh, no!"
In front of the lion, a huge circle of swirling bluish-purplish light opens up in front of them. "I think the lion wants us to go through there!"
Pidge furrows their brow, "Do we know where it goes? Matt?"
Matt defers to Shiro. "I don't know. Shiro, you're the highest-ranked officer here. What do we do?"
Shiro picks at his cuticles. "Um- Okay. Whatever's happening, the Lion probably knows more than we do. If we don't listen to it, we might die in this ship. I say we follow what it thinks, but we're the only humans up here. We're a team now."
Matt nods at him, shoving the controls forward and blasting through the air to get to the wormhole. Klance shifts nervously.
"Guess we're all ditching class tomorrow."
Lets B-b-b-break it Down
I got me a cam vid of that NYCC trailer for VLD s8. Wanna tear it apart with me?
Cool.
Major SPOILERS below the cut. Not joking. This is like, all the spoilers. Every single spoiler that currently exists regarding VLD s8 is discussed below the cut.
1. The trailer starts with rainbow colors flying by as if we’re traveling through a tunnel in space. Honerva fades into focus center screen, her eyes are closed and she’s outlined with a purple-pink glowing aura. The colors in the background transition to a starscape. A few scenes transition in and out overlapping with each other and this one in visibility.
Tumblr media
2. Honerva/Haggar in a hospital bed - reminiscent of her flashback from s5e2. Two figures stand at the foot of the bed, probably Zarkon and the doctor from the s5 flashback. Kova sits atop her where she is reclined.
Tumblr media
3 .The doctor is holding baby Lotor; he is crying. It appears that the doctor is attempting to prompt Haggar to hold her child, but she is turned away, eyes open and unresponsive.
Tumblr media
4. Adult Lotor is on his knees, his back to us, watching a planet explode. The view draws back and Haggar and Zarkon can be seen watching him. None of their faces are visible. It seems likely that this is the destruction of the mining colony Lotor told Allura about while they were in Oriande.
Tumblr media
5. The screen whites out and we’re in a new scene. A Galra cruiser can be seen in the Patrulian Zone, approaching the White Hole.
Tumblr media
6. A crowd of at least 23 Alteans are in Oriande, standing on the walkway in front of the temple, facing it. The walkway is framed by 4 (possibly 6 with 2 partially obscured) visible White Knight mechs.
Tumblr media
7. A White mech is crouched, holding its spear vertically, surrounded by a pink glow. It fills the screen.
Tumblr media
8. A shot of Honerva from the chest up, her arms out to the sides, face stern and teeth grit in concentration. Pink energy rushes around her, partially obscuring her at times. She flashes through four different faces of herself: her Haggar look from the end of s6, Honerva pre-rift, what is apparently her new look for s8 as the Altean Commander, and one we have yet to see in context. Her unknown look is potentially herself as Empress of Daibazaal; she appears to be wearing a pre-rift empire uniform with a prominent ‘V’ on the chest, and she wears a crown reminiscent of Allura’s with a large, dark, diamond shaped crystal in the center and two extra points in the band above her temples.
Tumblr media
9. Allura stands on the deck of the Atlas at a teleduv terminal, back to us. A wormhole sparks into existence out the viewport in front of her. The image fades into one of a different Altean - probably Honerva - standing in the same position in Oriande. They appear to be on the walkway in front of the temple facing away from it. The walkway appears to descend down a set of steps in front of them with a crowd of Alteans at the base of these steps watching on.
Tumblr media
10. Two paladins are flying through space into something that is spilling out streams of blue-white light. Their feet are towards us and it is difficult to see them clearly. The one on the left is Hunk, the one on the right is probably Lance but may be Allura. The view zooms into the light. it resembles, but is not identical to, the phenomena encountered by the paladins in s7e6 - that ultimately transported them near to Earth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
11. Honerva in pink light flickering between her forms is briefly on screen again.
12. Voltron is diving downwards through several rings of clouds along the path of a bright pink-white beam. there are floating rocky islands viewed from above going past in the background. The scene is pink tinted. This may be in Oriande.
Tumblr media
13. The Green Lion is dodging pink-white laser blasts in the foreground. The landscape is rocky and grey with a large base of some sort taking up most of the background. The base appears to be the same color scheme as the white mechs we have seen. It is white with pink lights reminiscent of the ones found on Empire structures. The base is mostly low-lying with a large double pointed tower in the center. Several large claw-like towers surround it in what looks like a ring, the curve inwards towards the center. At the very end of the clip the Blue Lion can also be seen.
Tumblr media
14. A low view below a group of 4 people watching Voltron ascend upwards towards a large glowing pink-purple vortex. The people’s pointed ears mark them as Alteans. The sky is starry behind the clouds. Voltron disappears in a flash of white light.
Tumblr media
15. The Robeast Myzax from s1e3 ‘Return of the Gladiator’ appears. Four of the lions, Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue, fly past it from right to left, firing and dodging its attacks. The lions appear partially transparent and phantom-like. The Robeast is solid, but shaded predominantly purple. This looks like it takes place in the astral realm or something akin to it.
Tumblr media
16. From inside the Atlas the doors open, showing a figure silhouetted against a landscape far below partially obscured by clouds. The figure is wearing a spacesuit and helmet that look reminiscent of Garrison tech in color scheme. They have something across their back from their right shoulder to lower left side with lights on it. The landscape below them is green when visible and dominated by a base with a white and pink color scheme. It looks like the same base from the clip with Green and Blue; we see the same double pointed tower in the center of a ring with four spokes leading to it. One claw-tower is briefly visible.
Tumblr media
17. The Atlas in robot form swings its arm forward and an MFE fighter launches from it. The camera follows the fighter as it flies across space towards the White Hole where it joins several other fighters in combat with a White Knight mech. The mech is firing pink lasers and holding its double ended spear. It appears to be guarding the white hole and a circular glowing pink structure that has been built around it. The circle is firing three continuous beams out into space from equidistant points along its circumference.
Tumblr media
18. Voltron is fighting in the pink and purple sky of Oriande bearing double swords. It launches ten missiles, five from each leg.
Tumblr media
19. A White mech is crouched, plunging its spear into the ground in a green field full of pink flowers. The field looks like the juniberry one we have seen in projections of Altea and in the Dome Romelle was found in. Pink light glows from the spear’s point of contact with the ground and the edges of the green field grow dark.
Tumblr media
20. Eight blue-white object rocked across space trailing light, they converge in a circle where they halt in a circle surrounding a much smaller object too far away to make out. There is a structure of some sort floating in the far background in front of a glowing pink-purple vortex in space.
Tumblr media
21. Five of the space pirates from s6e3 ‘The Way Forward’ stand atop a cliff looking cool. The one at the front is Zethrid. Immediately to the left of Zethrid is a cloaked figure dressed differently from the pirates. The figure appears to have a tail. The figure appears to be the bounty hunter that Pidge and Matt fought in s4e2 ‘Reunion’.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
22. We see Honerva from behind with her hood up; she’s inside a structure of Empire build, with purple walls and pink lighting. She lowers her hood and turns around; she’s wearing a crown made of dark material with a large diamond shaped yellow crystal in the center. The crown itself is reminiscent of the headgear Zarkon wore in s1 & s2. She is glaring and looks displeased.
Tumblr media
23. A pink-white laser beam is impacting a rocky planet causing boulders to float into the air. A person is mostly obscured in the foreground; the brown cloak and longer shaggy light-brown hair suggest that this person is Matt.
Tumblr media
24. Two paladins in the middle-distance stand in a grey and dead looking forest, skeletal trees rising around them. The paladins appear to be Pidge and Allura. Pidge sinks to her knees on the ground, leaning forwards with her hands on the Earth.
Tumblr media
25. Three aliens of an unknown race kneel on the ground, their eyes are closed and their hands in contact with the earth are glowing. The landscape is rock spires with veins of glowing blue crystal. An enormous blue crystal glows in the background. It looks similar to the scenes we observed on the Balmera back in s1 and s2.
Tumblr media
26. The Altean from the end of s7 sits on a hospital bed, knees drawn up to her chest with her arms wrapped around them. Her head is bowed and her gold eyes are open. She is wearing her space suit and has a sheet covering her legs. Wires run from her arms and back going off-screen.
Tumblr media
27. A large crowd of mixed garrison and Coalition members is gathered around the table in the conference room at the Garrison. Shiro and Veronica stand at the head of the table. At the side of the table best visible sit, from right to left, Keith, Allura, Hunk, Lance, Coran, Romelle, and Iverson. Behind them stand the MFE pilots; Rizavi, Leifsdottir, Griffin, and Kinkade. Pidge can be seen leaning in on the opposite side of the table, but most of the others on that side are either obscured or have their backs to the viewer. Slav and Bezor are on the near end. Other recognizable characters in the crowd are Krolia, Kolivan, Vrepit Sal, Nyma, Olia, Matt, and Matt’s mysterious masked girlfriend.
Tumblr media
28. Voltron is floating in space in front of a wrecked and derelict Galra cruiser. It appears to be a debris field of some kind with something large glowing in the background.
Tumblr media
29. Allura and Lotor are somewhere inside a Galra structure with purple walls. Allura is in the foreground, slightly out of focus, facing forward, and only visible from the neck up. She is wearing a Garrison uniform and her expression is shocked/horrified with her eyes wide and her mouth closed. Lotor stands behind her, in focus, he is turned to the side looking towards Allura and down. His expression is resigned and sad. As the shot pans, Allura is more to the right side and Lotor is more central.
Tumblr media
30. A section of a transformation sequence of a purple-toned mech we are as yet unfamiliar with.
Tumblr media
31. A clawed hand comes to rest on a glowing ball of light secured in something. This looks like it may be part of a control interface.
Tumblr media
32. Honerva is in a spacesuit looking determinedly into the camera. Her eyes start closed and when she opens them her irises are glowing yellow-orange like fire.
Tumblr media
33. The Black Lion is flying towards an enormous mech that is silhouetted and partially whited out by a blinding light behind it. The mech is really huge, it reaches out a clawed hand to either grab or block Black and the hand is the size of the Lion itself.
Tumblr media
34. A panning shot of Shiro looking heroic in a new black and white Garrison-styled uniform. He looks really good. There are at least five people standing behind him but two are obscured, the other three are Coran, Veronica, and Romelle. They are in front of grey-white panels - probably the Atlas.
Tumblr media
35. The Atlas in ship form is floating horizontally across the mouth of a cave which people are exiting out of. Our view is from inside this cave which is a dark rock veined with glowing blue crystal. Small full crystals litter the ground. There are at least 23 people in the crowd, and they look to be from an as yet unknown alien race. They all have their backs to the camera.
Tumblr media
36. Five Alteans are inside the Atlas around the ship’s crystal, one hand each stretched towards it. The crystal is shooting a beam of light upwards and the Alteans’ eyes are glowing yellow. The Alteans’ hair is blowing back from the force of the energy radiating off the crystal. Two of the Atlas’ crew are also in the shot, braced watching the action. Both are wearing Garrison uniforms but one is human while the other is a Unilu coalition fighter than has been seen but unnamed in prior seasons. The Alteans in the shot are the five in white and green uniforms in the NYCC poster that was given out. This is very interesting, as these five are unambiguously allied with Honerva according to the poster, yet whatever they’re doing in the clip is apparently in accordance with the crew of the Atlas. Seems that at some point these characters are convinced to switch their allegiances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
37. A very brief shot of eight large objects arranged in a circle floating in space. Glowing, sparkling light connects them and a beam is being shot from each towards the center of the circle. It resembles the spokes of a wheel. Whatever is a the center of the formation is glowing too brightly to be seen.
Tumblr media
38. Five lights illuminate and flare on the headpiece of a new, previously unseen mech. The shot zooms into the largest, central light before it changes.
Tumblr media
39. Several shot in quick succession that look to be happening in an astral realm of some kind. Pidge’s face looking alarmed. Allura swinging her whip to block a laser blast. Hunk holding his bayard weapon as the screen floods with yellow light. Lance firing his gun repeatedly while he screams.
Tumblr media
40. Keith in the Black Lion’s cockpit as he’s hit by something. The ship rocks and pink-purple lightning flashes all around him. He recovers and shoves the right hand control arm forward.
Tumblr media
41. A pink shield parts and an ominous pitch-black haloed mech extends an arm with massive scythe-like claws. It fires a blast of pink energy from its hand. Sincline is visible partially obscured on the left side of the screen, at the black mech’s right hand side. Something is not right with it, as all of its external lights apart from its eyes appear to be dark. A white diamond shaped structure reminiscent of the architecture in Oriande floats between the two mechs, with a second one just barely visible at the bottom of the screen.
Tumblr media
41. Honerva appears in a cloud of black smoke between the feet of a mech. She is wearing a space suit. The scene is painted orange by what looks like a sunset. The mech may be Sincline, as it has a tail, but the design looks slightly different than what we saw in s6 - though it’s possible that time spent in the rift may have altered it. This scene was luckily released as an HQ screencap for promotional purposes!
Tumblr media
42. Voltron slashes through two structures orbiting a planet with its double swords. The two structures simultaneously explode. Interestingly, it appears to have both it’s booster wings and the double swords activated. Combinations which have, in-show, required Keith & Lance, and Lance & Pidge respectively to use their bayards. On closer inspection, the ‘swords’ may in fact be a single spear, similar in design to the ones the White mechs have been observed to wield. What combination of paladins this requires has yet to be seen, but if I had to guess I’d say it may be Pidge & Allura - as Allura was shown to have proficiency with a staff in season 2.
Tumblr media
And that’s the trailer!
How exciting. Let’s see what we can make of this, shall we?
43 scenes, I’ve numbered them for easy reference.
Some of them are fairly self-explanatory - the Garrison ones are likely first or second episode and connect with the end of s7. Those would be 27 and 34. I’m also going to include 26 in this group, as the surrounding architecture seems to be in the Garrison color; it also makes sense that the Altean would be placed in a hospital-like setting after being freed from her mech.
For the rest, first off, it’s obvious that 8 and 11 are just one scene split in two; they might very well even be the same scene repeated.
But that’s not the only group of clips that might go together; there are actually several that seem to be part of, if not the same scene, then the same episode.
Starting with 19, 7 looks like it could be that same mech seen from the front. And that’s not all. We know from s7e13 that those mechs drain quintessence with their weapons - likely what’s happening here. So what happens when you drain the life from something? Well, it could very well look like the scenery depicted in 24. Which of course shows Pidge and Allura on a mission somewhere. And since VLD doesn’t usually repeat character teams multiple times a season, it’s likely the same mission we see the Green and Blue Lions on in 13; which features the same structure seen in 16.
Here’s the hypothetical sequence: 16, 19, 7, 13, 24. This order is based on both a logical sequence of events and the time of day shown in the image.
It’s also plausible that 10 might belong to this episode as well, probably the paired plotline - since it features Hunk and Lance apparently alone.
Taking the visuals and the characters into question, it looks like the setting for this string of clips is a colony - whether it’s one of Lotor’s or a new base built by Honerva is yet to be seen.
Speaking of Honera, she’s got both new duds and a new ride. I’d bet good money that 30, 31, and 32 are all part of the transformation sequence for the spooky black mech showcased in 41 - we also see its headpiece light up in 38.
Tumblr media
Also in 38 is Sincline, apparently retrieved from the rift. But, there’s something not quite right about it. The mech is partially obscured, but from what can be seen it appears that the external lighting that was visible in s6 has all gone dark. The eyes alone appear to still be alight. Whatever it means, it doesn’t bode well for Lotor. Who, by the way, also makes an apparently present-time appearance in the trailer; in 29. I TOLD YOU SO YOU FUCKERS I TOLD-
Tumblr media
There has been much speculation as to whether or not Lotor is really there or if the brief clip is part of a flashback. In my own opinion; it’s both. Lotor is not an illusion as he is the character in focus in the clip, but as it is Allura’s reaction that is initially front and center it appears that the scene is equally between the two of them. If anything, I would guess the specific clip we have is transitory in nature; Allura is reacting to something off-screen and Lotor is now about to offer some commentary on the thing in question. Notably though, the architecture this scene happens in is the dark purple of the Empire; and I would argue that if anything this is the part that isn’t real.
While it’s certainly possible that 4 is a part of Honerva’s flashback, I think it much more likely that this is a memory of Lotor’s as the event shown was referenced as having been a formative experience for him. We already have two examples in canon of one person viewing another’s memories ( when Haggar revived Zarkon and when Keith and Krolia traveled through the Qunatum Abyss) so it wouldn’t be a stretch for it to happen again.
Even so, since we do unambiguously see Sincline, debating exactly how ‘real’ 29 is is a moot point: Lotor’s back, baby! All you haters leaving anon messages in my inbox can suck it, who’s delusional now assholes? I doubt we’re off the pain train yet, but vindication station is in sight! don’t count your chickens before they hatch don’t count on anything oh GOD this train could yet derail. Fuck. Fuck! But this looks good. It does. So far this is exactly what I expected, stay calm.
Anyway.
25 and 35 seem to feature the same landscape and new kind of aliens. It looks similar to the Balmera, and might simply be another one and its residents. Or, it could be a different kind of crystal-producing creature altogether.
Tumblr media
And it looks like we’re in for some fun times in the astral realm! With both 15 and 39 pretty unambiguously set in the nebulous ‘quintessence vision’ we’ve seen a handful of times throughout the series. It looks like some previously defeated foes have come to visit as well! Only time will tell if they’re constructs of flesh and steel or mere memory.
But we’ve saved potentially the most interesting clips for last. First, 20 and 37 are definitely the same structure, showing respectively the formation and activation of it. Eight objects arranged in a circle around a central point. But what are they? It’s admittedly very difficult to make out, and we probably would deed access to a HD trailer to say for sure, but I’ve got a good guess. What else shoots through space trailing a tail of light but a comet?
Tumblr media
Hey! It’s the right color scheme and everything!
Huh. Y’know what else shares that color scheme? That dark rock with thin, green-blue glowing veins?
This place.
Tumblr media
Now, I’m not saying they’re all the same thing. But I wouldn’t rule out a connection. Balmeran crystals are what Alteans historically used to power their ships and likely are rich with quintessence, trans reality ore is associated with the rift, which is full of quintessence. There exists a plausible connection.
Also in 20 is a swirling purple vortex-like gate. I call it a gate because we can actually observe Voltron entering a similar looking structure in 14. And, while it’s easy to miss, it actually seems to be what the Black Lion and the huge unknown mecha are in front of - and possibly falling into - in 33.
Tumblr media
I’d like to thank @legendofcarl for pointing out in this post that Honerva is actually piloting the temple in Oriande (in 9 here) as opposed to opening a wormhole. Because taking that into consideration, the white pyramidal structures in 41 are not just reminiscent of Oriande, they are Oriande. Specifically, the temple: it’s a ship. And it’s what is floating in front of the purple vortex in 20.
Tumblr media
Which would indicate that the fight involving Sincline and the black mech in 41 is probably happening in front of that vortex and the wheel of comets as well. And those Alteans seen in 14? They’re likely on the Temple ship.
Why not tie some more in? The shots of identity-shifting Honerva clearly powering something off-screen in 8 & 11? They’re not the black mech from 41 - we see the inside of that one in 31 and 32. It might be that she’s inside the unknown mech from 33.
And it might be the robot she’s standing in front of in 42, because the more I look at it, the less it looks like Sincline.
For one, the colors are wrong. It’s not possible to tell the true colors because of the orange tone of the image, but Sincline’s legs are grey, its feet blue, and the pointed edges on the feet are bright orange. This mech clearly has the same color feet and legs, and the edging on the feet looks to be a lighter silver-white of some sort. The shape of the ankles and feet is off as well, if this was sincline there should be an extra piece incorporated into the joint at the front where the foot and leg meet. The ankles also look too narrow in proportion to the feet as well. Finally, Sincline’s tail is opaque, and we shouldn’t be able to see the sunset between the segments. The end of the tail, while indistinct in the screen, also looks to be either the wrong shape in general or have one fewer points than it should.
Tumblr media
Can mechs fuse? Because if you meshed Sincline and the black mech together this is about what I’d expect. Darker color scheme, familiar yet different designs - and if it’s the same one as in 33, approximately twice the size of Voltron.
There’s a lot of exciting things in this trailer, and much to consider. But after laying this all out? I think this is probably all from the first few episodes. Because when you string it all together, there’s only a very small collection of scenes here. This probably doesn’t even include the mid-season event.
Oh Boy! I’m Excited!
I can’t wait for December 14th!
But I can’t leave you all without a few predictions can I? Just based on what we have here, what would I project for this section of the plot?
Well... The first episode should be spent on Earth, seeing how our paladins lives have been now that they’ve reconnected with their families, getting filled in by Matt and the rest of the coalition fighters on what exactly has been going down in the wider universe. Either the tail end of that or the beginning of the next episode should throw the Altean and whatever info she brings into the mix, and that info should be what prompts the team to return to space.
I’d wager they’ll head for the Altean Colony first thing - at least Allura will. This may be where the shots of Allura and Pidge on a mission will fit in, and on the flip side where Hunk and Lance will once again pair up and tackle something else pressing. That section with the pink and white base is probably the/an Altean Colony.
This is also where we will begin learning the truth about what is actually going on. That will put everything that I and the rest of the Lotor-fans have been theorizing to the test. No idea as of yet what side of this Romelle will shake out on, but here is where it will happen.
Oh, but whatever they find at the colony, it looks like Honerva’s already taken all the Chosen Alteans to Oriande. Oops, Paladins, you’re too late.
Honerva is out to retrieve Lotor from the rift.
She had Sendak attempt to capture the Lions in s7 because she needs a trans-reality comet as well as Altean Alchemy to access the Quintessence Field. Sendak was fine with this because he needed to prove Lotor was dead to enable someone else (himself, yo) to become Emperor, and Lotor has kinda been Shordinger’s Cat in this situation: simultaneously alive and dead because you can’t know for sure until you open the rift.
Honerva was probably watching through Sendak the same way she had been Shiro and Narti; when she saw he’d failed she sent the one mech she had prepared in attempt to catch the paladins while they were still weak from their battle.
But she lost that too.
Now, she’s either got herself some more trans-reality ore, or she’s found a substitute that just might work if you put enough of the stuff together. That’d be that lovely space-wheel we see.
The paladins realize she’s already left Oriande and catch up to her just in time to see Honerva rip open a hole in reality and haul her son back into the plot. That’s why Sincline appears to be powered down in that shot; it’s just been removed from the rift.
We’re missing some major pieces here, but SOMETHING happens during that showdown to split the Alteans’ alignment away from Honerva, change the appearance of her mech, and probably prompt Voltron to follow her through the spooky purple vortex in the sky.
And hey! What’s on the other side of a Hole in the Sky?
Other realities of course.
...
OMG OMG! Lotor is back, guys! He’s back! YEESSSSSSSS!
Pt16
(Hints of citrus. More technical & discussions around consent. No action beyond pg-13)
Forgot an overnight bag.
16:03
I can bring my shoreleave bag to your place?
16:05
K. Have a drawer for you.
16:05
Meet me by the lockers?
16:06
NP.
16:06
Shiro heads in, exultant. The Holts scold him, and Iverson just shakes his head and gives him dirty looks over Colleen's shoulder. Shiro technically isn't his to scold anymore.
When the Holts are done, Shiro gives Iverson a rueful look. "Sir?"
"You're retired, Shirogane. I don't yell at civilians."
Shiro tilts his head a bit and raises an eyebrow.
"Leastaways not the ones that have earned my respect."
"Well. Thank you then, sir. For not taking the piss out of me, sir."
"Shirogane, you were my commanding officer on the Altas. You can dispense with the sir nonsense."
Grinning, "thank you sir."
"Get out of here. Your boyfriend is waiting."
Shiro does a little mocking salute, and heads inside. Matt joins him on the way.
"You gonna push Curt up against a wall and take him, or will it be safe for me to get in a shower? I'm dusty and sweaty."
"It's safe," Shiro says dryly. "We would never do that in there anyway."
"You and Adam did plenty of things in plenty of places, and half the cadets knew."
"Not the locker room," Shiro protests. He doesn't want to explain to Matt why they'd done whatever whenever. With the degenerative disease, and the medicine messing him up... He hadn't been able to get an erection with any reliability. So they'd taken advantage of it whenever it happened. Which meant they had visited several broom closets and on one notable occasion, the roof. Just like he's sick of people wanting to know how sleeping with Curtis goes. They're not. So far Shiro is pretty sure he has gotten it up maybe twice since he was first captured by the Galra.
It had certainly been impossible in captivity. Not that he'd tried. And then after, he'd been busy. And had almost no alone time. No time to try. And no interest, if he's being honest. He'd never felt like it. And now with Curtis, his body still isn't working. It had once, maybe he's pretty sure. Maybe twice.
"Not the locker room... But the roof? Most broom closets... An empty classroom. One of the teacher's offices...and apparently some bleachers?"
"The bleachers was rumor and hearsay. And the office... Was Adam's."
"That doesn't make it better," Matt makes a face. "You guys were disgusting."
"Well. I suppose Curtis and I have a low bar to step over in terms of not upsetting you."
"Sorry. I didn't think about it. Are you okay to even talk about Adam?"
"Yeah. I can handle it."
"Oh. Quiznak. Shiro is... Is Curtis okay with it?"
"Yeah," Shiro grins a little. "Curtis kinda knew him. It's not like we compare our exes to each other. It's just nice sometimes to be able to talk about the good stuff. And we've talked about why Adam and I broke up."
Matt nods a little. He knows Curtis and his previous partner had been very serious. And knows how he died, too. So there's less negative notes to compare on Curtis' side. He wonders how Shiro feels about it. "You guys were good until you weren't," he shrugs.
Shiro shrugs back. He doesn't want to talk about it with Matt. He's told Curtis that he'd put himself first. Adam had been supportive until he'd wanted to come first once in a while. Shiro doesn't regret going to Kerberos. For all he wishes they hadn't been caught by the Galra. Voltron... Doesn't make the torture and blood and death worth it, not really. But it was amazing. The Atlas was amazing. The Coalition. So much good coming out of so much bad.
So many amazing experiences. The views from the bridge of the Castle of Lions. Sitting with Allura just watching the stars. He's seen entire galaxies they didn't even know existed. Met aliens. Seen planets with names he can barely pronounce. Beautiful flora and fauna...
But it was good to feel the wind in his hair. The grit and sand scrape across his skin. It's nice to be home.
Choosing to focus on that, he pushes the door open to the locker room, nose wrinkling at the familiar stench of sweaty bodies. rank flight suits, old socks, and swamp crotch.
Curtis is half changed into civvies and his bag is on the bench ready to grab and go.
"That's a face," Curtis teases, finishing pulling on his pants and fastening them. Stuffing some things into his bag and zipping it shut, he goes over to Takashi and kisses him. "You smell like you belong in here anyway," he teases gently.
"How can you tell?" He points out.
Matt makes a face at both of them, and heads to his locker. "I'll catch you guys later, I need to wash up."
"Yeah, see you soon?" Shiro suggests.
"Definitely. Don't be a stranger."
Curtis kisses Takashi's cheek. "You okay if I shower at your place? I hate the showers here."
"You're welcome to treat my place like your own," he points out. Leaning into Curtis he feels warm when Curtis puts an arm around his shoulders. It's nice to be openly loved.
They walk out. It takes a bit, some people wanting to greet Shiro. Some people happily ribbing Curtis about what he's going home to.
When they get to Curtis' car he squeezes Takashi's hand. "Does it bug you when they tease us about sex?" He's noticed his partner get more withdrawn as it went on.
"It seems good natured," he shrugs. He doesn't want to talk about the embarassing reason it makes him uncomfortable. For all Curtis kind of already knows. He hasn't just said right out that he can't get it up. They talked about how he feels like his body maybe doesn't work right and he's uncomfortable in it. For all that's far less true now. Between Curtis, the 'family' reunion the day before, pulling off the cliff stunt on a whole new piece of technology. He feels pretty good. He feels more like himself.
When they get back to his place, Shiro makes a face at Curtis when he plugs his nose. "I can smell you in here, now, for sure. In the locker room it was hard to tell."
"I pulled off the impossible today," he counters, bouncing on the balls of his feet. "I think a little smell can be forgiven." He leans in to kiss Curtis, who kisses him back.
Curtis kisses him back, wrapping his arms around Takashi. He's never seen him seem so alive and thrilled. Nuzzling his neck, Curtis smiles. It's not that he hasn't seen Captain Shirogane electrified and in charge. He's seen him flush with a succesful military manouever, seen him cheer after winning a pitched battle. But there was always something behind it. Some darkness, or guilt... Pain. Not this. Not this time. This is different. The victory is open and innocent. Takashi is obviously pleased with himself.
"Hm. Reminds me," he pulls away and swats Takashi upside the head. "Don't you dare just drive off a cliff with no warning ever again, you jackass."
"I knew what I was doing."
"I knew you'd have no problems driving that thing. I just didn't expect you to do that. No one did!"
"It was kind of hot though, right?" He starts kissing Curtis again. They end up against a wall. He's pushed Curtis into it, not thinking.
"You're always hot," Curtis reminds him. He kisses along the other man's jaw.
Shiro's breath catches and he pulls Curtis in closer. Kissing harder, he wishes Curtis would let him move in closer. Their hips aren't close together and he wants them to be. Wanting to tug up Curtis' shirt, take things further, he's barely thinking.
Curtis reaches down to tug Takashi forward by his belt loops, bringing their bodies flush. He moans a little, pushing into his partner a little harder.
Shiro whimpers a little, needing more. It sort of pops into his brain that he's rock hard and trying to figure out how to grind on Curtis without really being able to move. Curtis has him trapped, fingers still hooked tightly in his pants.
"Takashi," Curtis pulls back. "Hey, slow down." He knows a big part of his reluctance to go past kissing with Takashi is how uncomfortable and miserable he's been. Curtis doesn't want sex to become a coping mechanism or crutch in their relationship.
"Curtis," he protests, confused.
"I will kiss you all you want," Curtis promises. "I just don't know if we're ready for the next step."
"Curtis," he turns red. Taking his hand and tugging it close to his groin, he looks down. He doesn't bring their hands to even touch. Just. Close. "I might... I might not be able to, when we're ready."
Pulling his fingers free of Takashi's belt loops, he gently slips them under his chin and lifts. Gives him a wicked grin, "oh trust me. That won't be an issue."
"This... The...I haven't...I haven't since...you don't understand," he stumbles.
It takes a few more seconds of incoherent rambling before Curtis understands what Takashi is trying to tell him. "That long?" He asks, almost concerned. "Oh wow."
"I don't... It just doesn't happen anymore. I... I want... I want to be with you," he says almost plaintively.
"You can't....?" Curtis makes an obscene gesture.
"No..." He turns a darker red, and can feel the heat rising off his face. "Maybe now? Without the arm, and my shoulder healing? I don't..." He shrugs. "Too late now," he points out, glancing down.
"Well we both need to shower," Curtis shrugs. "Maybe I could help you out a little?" He suggests, kissing Takashi's neck and catching his earlobe for a second.
Shiro feels like his whole body is electrified. "You won't be disappointed when it doesn't work?"
Giving him a wry look, "I want to have sex with you. I just think we need to have several conversations before we do any of it. There's some stuff I hate and there might be things you don't like. And for both of us, one wrong move could be a serious trigger. So. Do I want you? Yes. Gods yes. When it happens will I rock your world so hard you forget your own name? Hell yes," he grins when Takashi turns red again. He'd just almost faded to a light pink. "But, I want to wait until we've both talked extensively."
"I'm gonna hold you to that," he mumbles. "Do you wanna order take out or should we cook something?" He resigns himself to nothing happening.
"Let's see how we feel once we're both clean?"
"You're a pain."
"I'll help you through it, you just have to do the work yourself," Curtis says patiently, and watches understanding dawn on the other man's face.
"Won't that be some kind of torture? I don't think I'd have the willpower if I was in your place," he points out, for all he has butterflies in his stomach.
"It'll be fine. Who said I was just gonna watch and not handle myself?"
Swallowing hard, he feels a few minutes of panic. "Curtis... What if I just can't?"
Curtis' first instinct is just to dismiss it. But he can see it's genuinely stressing his partner out. "Let me worry about that. That's my job," he kisses Takashi gently. "And if it doesn't work, we'll try a bunch of different stuff until it does." He kisses over his neck, catches his earlobe, and gently starts to tug his shirt off. His hands wander up and over Shiro's scarred chest, before slipping around to his back to pull him closer. His shirt slides back down, covering Curtis' hands.
Kissing him slowly, and gently, he holds him close. It's not about how hard and fast they can kiss. It's about how much they love each other.
Eventually, Curtis pulls back. Takashi's eyes are lidded heavily as he looks at Curtis with a mix of affection, lust, and contentment. He's completely out of it. Leaning back in for more kisses, his lips feel swollen and they were being gentle. He vaguely wonders how long they've been at it.
He's trapped in some limbo between utter peace and desperate lust. "I need you to kiss me like that more often," he says against Curtis' lips.
"Of course," Curtis promises. Gently pulling Takashi's shirt off, he kisses along his collar bone. Soft. No demands. Just enjoying the feel of his partner's skin under his lips and tongue. Hooking his fingerips into the front of his waistband, Curtis starts moving slowly backwards towards the bathroom, tugging Takashi with him.
(I might just delete it all? I dunno.)
The lost Jedi
G, 2,605 words, chapters : 1/1, AU: Star Wars setting; basically a rewrite of the pilot episode in a Star Wars setting from Keith’s point of view (with some liberties, of course!); so some scenes and dialogues will be familiar!
This was written for @sheithauweek,day 3: ships and stars!
Read it here on AO3, and find it here on twitter!
As the big geek that I am, I also made an animated intro like in the movies, that you can play here. (if this doesn’t work, there are screncaps on the twitter link)
---
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... The Rebellion is struggling against the Forces of the Empire. The Planet of Altea has been destroyed by the Empire after it joined the Rebellion. One of the rare survivors because she was off planet, Princess Allura is now an important leader of the Rebellion. A group of Jedi on a diplomatic mission on planet Kerberos has been missing, and are reported to have been killed by the Empire. However, Keith Kogane, a young Jedi apprentice, is still looking for his friend Takashi Shirogane, who was part of the mission.
---
"Transferring prisoner 117-9875 for further investigation"
"That is Takashi Shirogane. A Jedi master. We need appropriate security protocol"
"We'll be following protocol AX-711. And he will be sedated."
Keith's world collapsed on him when his father's old radio transmitted this coded message from an Empire fleet to the local Empire base. For a moment, the walls of his tiny shack had seemed to close on him, and he felt like he was being buried alive. Everything became black and suffocating.
He slowly regained control of himself again, trying hard to breathe, his fingers white from the tight grip he had on the desk he had been sitting at. He was panting and drenched in cold sweat. And angry at himself for overreacting like that. It just confirmed his suspicions, after all. He had never really believed in Shiro's death. He knew, because if Shiro had been killed in that mission like the Jedi Order had told him, he would have felt it in the Force, and he hadn't.
He had kept telling them Shiro was alive, had kept pushing for a rescue, but no one listened to him. They told him to get hold of himself, that his behavior was dangerous for a Jedi, that he shouldn't give in to anger or he would fall to the Dark Side. He had kept falling apart, and when Master Iverson accused Shiro of being responsible of the failure of the mission, Keith stopped thinking. He punched him. This is how he was exiled from the Jedi Order. He returned to Tatooine, his home planet. To his dad's shack, empty since his childhood; since Empire soldiers had come and killed his father for being part of the Rebellion. After settling here, Keith had tried to survive how he could, but mostly he had been searching for Shiro.
"Patience yields focus", he muttered under his breath, repeating the mantra his former mentor had taught him when he needed to calm down. That helped him getting his head clear. If he wanted to save Shiro, he needed to hurry.
He knew the coordinates of the Empire base; he just needed a plan.
----
The distraction had worked, and while troops were being sent away to inspect the explosion, Keith managed to enter the base. It was still guarded, but he used the Force on the clone troopers, so that they didn't pay attention to him.
From listening to their communications, he had gathered that Shiro was being brought to the lab section first, rather than to the cells. What that meant, Keith didn't know, but a knot of anxiety was festering in his stomach.
He managed to keep hidden while exploring the base, and, even if he somehow got lost on the way, he finally found the medical area. The first few rooms he looked into were empty, but he did find a lab that was guarded. He tried to use the Force to get in, but that didn't work.
There were soldiers and medics inside, and they all surged at him when he entered. It was too late to try and curb their will wit the Force, so he just used his fists. When they were all knocked out, he sped to free Shiro, who was strapped to a table. He almost tripped over one of the medics laying on the ground in his haste.
He gasped when he got a better view of Shiro. He was unconscious, and seemed to have aged much more than the two years they had been apart; his right arm had been replaced with a mechanical prosthetic, a scar was barring his nose, and the hair from his bangs had turned white. Keith felt tears well up in his eyes as he muttered his friend's name, wondering what he had been through. But he didn't have time to linger on his emotions.
He took out the lightsaber he had inherited from his mother, and cut the straps that were holding Shiro prisoner. Gently, he tried to lift the big man from the table. The motion caused Shiro to wake up; he panicked and tried to free himself from Keith's hold. Keith didn't restrain him.
"Shiro, it's me!"
"Keith?" Shiro's voice was hoarse and his eyes unfocused. He was obviously still under the effect of some kind of anesthetic. Reassured, he let himself fall against Keith again with a sigh. Keith wrapped Shiro's left arm around his shoulders, and tried a few steps, but Shiro could barely stand. Keith hadn't expected that. Getting out of the base without being caught was about to get more complicated than anticipated.
While he was hesitating, three people barged in. It was obvious they didn't belong there, and were infiltrating the base just like him. A little Mark IV sentry droid was with them, but to Keith's relief, it didn't attack;  from the way it was flying alongside them, it seemed re-purposed to be at their service.
Before Keith could even react, a lanky guy strode toward him, waggling his finger disapprovingly: "No no no no, no! No, you don’t! I'm saving Shiro!". He took Shiro's other arm, helping Keith carrying him. His long face, tan skin, blue eyes and pointy chin were somewhat familiar.
"Who are you?" asked Keith, confused.
"Who am I? Uh, the name’s Lance?” He seemed to expect Keith to react, but that didn’t ring any bell. “We were in the same flight school? We were like rivals! You know, Lance and Keith, neck to neck..."
Oh, right, the flight school Keith had been part of.. before he stole Shiro's landspeeder for a ride, and Shiro insisted on bringing him to the Jedi temple. He hadn't paid much attention to the other cadets at the flight school, but after thinking about it harder, Lance had been difficult to ignore. Loud, cocky, and always trying to confront Keith for some reason. Keith still didn’t get what he meant about being rivals. Wasn't Lance a cargo pilot?
"Oh, yeah, I remember you." grunted Keith. "What are you doing here."
"Saving Shiro!" repeated Lance. "Don't try to one-up me on that!"
That left Keith confused. He was just trying to help his best friend. He didn't even know they were coming. Why would Lance believe...?
"I'm Pidge. We're from the Rebel Alliance" stated the shortest, and apparently youngest, member of the group. They examined Keith sharply through their round glasses. "What about you?"
"Keith. Former Jedi apprentice," mumbled Keith.
"What?! Former? Did they kick you out?" There was some underlying excitement in Lance's tone that had Keith's hackles rise.
"Sorry to interrupt", said the big guy nervously, "but I think we should go. My sensor is signaling droids coming this way. And the troops are going to come back to the base soon!"
Pidge nodded. "Let's go. Rover, you go as a scoot!". The sentry droid took the lead.
They followed the less crowded paths according to the sensor, with Pidge going first after Rover, then Lance and Keith carrying Shiro, and the last one, who introduced himself as Hunk, covering their tail with his blaster rifle.
---
Once they escaped, Keith brought them to where he had hidden his hoverbike. Their ship was bigger, and further away to avoid it being discovered by the Empire troops.
Said troops were back from inspecting the explosion Keith had caused as a decoy. They hoped to go unnoticed, but shots in their direction proved them otherwise. Keith pulled the throttle. The troops started chasing them.
Keith's heart was in his throat. Alone, he would have shaken them off them easily, but with everyone on board, they were overloaded. The hoverbike was slow and unresponsive. The tanks, land troops and battle droids weren't much of an issue, but the droideka were catching up. Thankfully, fire wasn't much nourished, maybe because they wanted Shiro alive.
Still, Rover, who was firing back at the enemy, got shot and exploded. Pidge let out a long wail when they saw that, and fired back desperately. Lance caught Shiro, who was still dazed and almost fell down as Pidge let go of him.  Hunk leaned forwards to comfort the young rebel; it caused the whole hovercraft to nose down. That gave Keith an idea.
"Hunk, lean left!" Hunk did, and the hoverbike did too; Keith used it to gain speed. Going on with this trick, he managed to keep distance between them and their pursuers. Adrenaline was flooding his veins. He shouldn't have fun doing this.
"Guys, i-is that a cliff overhead?!" Hunk's voice was tight with fear. It was.
They were all yelling at him to stop. As if it was an option. He pulled the throttle. The rush of blood was chanting in his ears, the wind from the acceleration tossing his hair and adding to his elation.
This was a trick Shiro had taught him. Everyone kept screaming, but Keith let out a laugh. He managed to stick the landing. Unable to come down, the Empire troops had abandoned pursuit.
Lance, who had a good sense of direction, guided him towards their ship.
"That's Blue!", he claimed proudly. "Isn't she beautiful?"
Keith lifted a skeptical brow. The ship was older than themselves, and looked like a wreck. It was indeed painted blue, to be less conspicuous while flying in the atmosphere, maybe?
Hunk grinned, patting the metallic carcass: "She doesn't look like much, but believe me, she can fly! Pidge and I make sure of that."
---
They managed to take off from the planet without trouble. Lance had improved his piloting a lot since flight school, but Keith still had to fight back an urge to push him off the pilot seat and to take the commands.
They were headed towards a Rebellion base on Arus, where they would join Princess Allura. Lance said they hoped Shiro could share some of what he had learned in his mission and during his captivity. Shiro nodded, but Keith noticed how tense he had gotten.
Even with light speed, the trip would last at least a few days, which was good, because Shiro obviously needed some rest.
----
After catching up some sleep, Keith noticed Shiro's bunk was empty. He finally found him gazing through one of the ship's viewing bays. Shiro was lost in the contemplation of the stars, but as Keith was approaching him, his focus shifted to his prosthetic arm. Keith's chest tightened; they still hadn't spoken about what had happened to Shiro.
Gently, he put his hand on his friend's shoulder, a gesture that Shiro had used so often to comfort him in the past. "It's good to have you back."
Shiro turned towards him, a wistful smile on his lips. "It's good to be back".
Keith hesitated. "So, what happened out there?"
Shiro let out a distressed sight. "I wish I remembered. My head’s still pretty scrambled. It’s all a blur..." Keith felt worry grow in his heart. He wasn't the most informed, but between this and Shiro's nightmares that night, it wasn't hard to see symptoms of trauma. Shiro continued: "How did you know to come to save me?"
Keith shifted uneasily. "I... heard stuff. Coded communications from the Empire. On my dad's radio."
Shiro was now looking at him with a concerned expression: "But... what were you doing, alone on Tatooine?"
Keith hesitated, and there was a short silence while Shiro held his gaze. Keith bit his lip, folding his arms and looking away. "They said you died. I didn't believe them. I would have felt it. In the Force."
"I... I understand. Sometimes... I remember... sometimes, I felt you try to reach out to me."
Keith felt his heart stop. He had thought of Shiro, often, missed him terribly. He had no idea Shiro would be able to feel that. "I... missed you." Shiro was still looking at him perplexedly, and he realized he hadn't answered Shiro's question. "After being booted from the Jedi Temple..." he heard Shiro's intake of breath, "I was kinda... lost, and felt myself drawn out to this place." His voice was breaking.
"You went home."
"Yeah."
Shiro knew about Keith's past on Tatooine. About his mother disappearing when he was a baby, about his father being killed by the Empire. Shiro was the one who had found him there at the flight school. He had seen him flying, and  had insisted that Keith was force sensitive, and that he used it without knowing for piloting. Keith had been reticent at first, but Shiro had managed to convince him to try becoming a Jedi. He brought him back to the Jedi Temple. They had begrudgingly accepted him, despite his sixteen years- much older than the usual recruits. Shiro was the one who helped him finding his footing living with the Jedi. Who taught him how to manage his emotions better. Keith had hoped becoming his padawan when he was deemed ready. It was the closest bond to him that he could wish for - Jedi were not supposed to love, after all.
As Shiro didn't answer, he added:  "I kept looking for you..." He found himself incapable of speaking more. Emotions were overflowing him and he could barely keep himself together.
"You found me", Shiro said softly. He reached out a hand, tentatively. Keith knew that signal. He took Shiro's hand and they hugged, a long time. It felt nostalgic, and it felt different and new too. Keith hadn't even realized how much he'd missed this. When they separated, they were both a bit awkward and flushed.
"You grew", commented Shiro; he sounded shaken.
"Eh. It's been two years." He hadn't even paid attention to his growth. His pants were a bit short, now, but it didn't matter when he was wearing boots. He knew his work as a farmhand had developed his muscles, but he had never reflected on how changed his figure.
Shiro had changed too. He too had gained muscles. His embrace was still as warm and welcoming as before, but there was metal now mixed with his familiar scent. He was however clearly not ready to talk about it, so Keith changed subject.
"Are you going to contact the Jedi Order?"
Shiro took a moment to consider the question. "I...I don't know. Let's meet that Princess first. We can see from there."
Keith let out a relieved sight. Now that he wasn't part of the Jedi Order anymore, he was worried of being separated from Shiro again if he went back to the Temple. And after they had abandoned Shiro to his fate, Keith didn't trust the Jedi anymore. He wanted Shiro safe. And close to him, if possible.
"What about you?" asked Shiro.
Keith shrugged. "The Jedi won't take me back, so. I guess I could join the Rebellion... Like you said. Let's meet the Princess."
---
A few days later, Blue landed on planet of Arus. Lance, Hunk and Pidge brought them in front of the Princess.
She was in a conference room, discussing strategy with a group of commanders. Her white hair was in a bun, and the pointy ears and cheek marks revealing her altean origins. She was wearing simple flight clothes, despite her rank. When she saw them, she left the holographic map they were examination and walked towards them.
"Hello, I am Princess Allura, from Altea. You are in a Rebel Base. Master Shirogane, as a survivor from the Kerberos mission, we believe you may have valuable information about Lord Zarkon and the Empire. Would you accept to share them with us?"
"It is an honor. This is my friend Keith. We are at your service, Princess."
