Dr. Donald "Don" Michael Hudson, age 63, of Johnson City, Tennessee, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, in Anchorage, Alaska. Don was born on June 22, 1959, to the late Donald Eugene Hudson and Frances Jane Roberts Kramer in Roanoke, Virginia. He was a member of Tazewell Presbyterian Church, Tazewell, Virginia. Don married the love of his life, Christina Camille Flynn Hudson on March 3, 2012. They lived in several places throughout the world, but the happiest years of his life were when he and Christina lived in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Professionally and academically, Don was a very accomplished man, having four master's degrees and a Ph.D. He was an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA). He was Professor of Religious Studies and Chair of the Bible and Religion Department at King University in Bristol, Tenn. In his role as the leader of the Religion 1001 class and others, Don likely taught more students at King than any other individual professor. His zeal for understanding the Christian Scriptures in the 21st century was evident among those who were privileged to sit under his instruction. He designed and developed the course, Foundations of Christian Thought and Practice, which encouraged students to develop their worldviews and apply critical thinking skills to their faith.
Tumblr media
Prior to joining King University, he taught in the Philosophy and Religion department at Appalachian State University. He co-founded the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology in 1996. He crafted the original vision of the school, hired faculty and staff, recruited students, raised funds, and designed the curriculum for the MA in Theology and the MDiv. For years, Don led teams of undergraduate students to Palestine to pursue epistemological humility, excellence in scholarship, and nuanced thinking in regards to religion and geo-politics.
As chair of the Bible and Religion department, Dr. Hudson had been actively promoting undergraduate research and scholarly activities in the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Hudson promoted education in his community by speaking regularly at churches, local high schools, community colleges, universities, student organizations, and with local news media about religious violence and extremism and Iron Age archaeology in Israel. Dr. Hudson also served on the governing board of the King Institute of Faith and Culture.
At heart, Don was a fly fisherman and served as both a guide in Montana and taught a course for undergraduate students on fly fishing at King. He also travelled around to local high schools to teach high school students the art of fly fishing. As Don would have put it, to echo the words of Norman Maclean in A River Runs Through It, "in our family there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing."
Don authored, co-authored, and/or edited ten books and had written over 60 essays and articles in journals such as Imaginatio et Ratio, Dictionary of Biblical Imagery, Mars Hill Review, Journal for the Study of the Old Testament, Inklings, The Everyday Study Bible, Sojourners, and Zeitschrift fur die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft. He also founded and co-directed the Mars Hill Review where he served as concept editor for nine years. He gave more than 500 research and public scholarship presentations in 47 states and 14 countries. He has also been a consultant with international organizations managing refugee populations in Germany, Austria, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Germany, and Turkey.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Christina; children, Madilyn Trula Pereira and Donald Michael Martin Hudson; siblings, Jodi Hudson Crown and Taylor, Scott Hudson and Heather, and Beth Hudson Proffitt and George; and many nieces and nephews.
Don's family will receive friends from 8:45 until 9:45 a.m. EST at King University Library, 1350 King College Rd., Bristol, TN 37620, on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. The visitation will conclude promptly at 9:45 a.m. EST so please plan accordingly. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will commence immediately following the visitation, in the King University Memorial Chapel, under the direction of Dr. Brian Alderman. The service will be available to view at 10 a.m. EST via livestream at www.webcast.king.edu.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to support refugees, a cause important to Don and his family, are directed to Middle East Children's Alliance (https://www.mecaforpeace.org/), United Palestinian Appeal (https://upaconnect.org/), Anera (https://www.anera.org/), or Mercy USA for Aid and Development Inc. (https://mercyusa.org/).
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family via www.morrisbaker.com.
Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 E Oakland Ave, Johnson City, Tennessee, is honored to serve the Hudson family. (423) 282-1521.

humble fumble, ballot boxed
Tumblr media
Not sure what "try being popular" even means. I don't think Reggie ever wins these things.
Tumblr media
The execution on "Ballot Boxed", where after seeing how everyone is swayed by Jughead's slogan posters for Archie's candidacy Reggie buys him off and you see the rest here, leaves something to be desired. It needs just a mite better slogans than "Archie By Cracky" for me to suspend disbelief and accept. On the soundness of the premise, I am reminded that in voting for asb positions, having nothing else to go by and no clear idea of what the heck I was voting for besides a good line for the candidates' college applications, I voted for whoever have me the most number of campaign stickers.

Albus Severus is not his name. His name is remus regulus. REMUS REGULUS. A marauders first name. A black middle name. Just like his brother.
He should not be named after the people who wanted his father dead. Severus was willing to give up a baby so a woman who doesn’t love him could live. Like that woman could even remotely be okay after her child died. The fuck is wrong with that racist.
And Albus literally cares about himself. You were emotionally abused for how long? Because of a stupid blood bond. Get tf out of here. And ion wanna hear that remus was a werewolf shit Mary could’ve took him too.
ASSHOLES.
(Also Harry you’d be dead with the rest of the marauders without regulus soooo the least you could do was give him a name sake) (I still love you. But come on man.)
Edit: I also kinda like Marlene Lily. Cause I’ve always thought it’s weird naming your child after your parent when one of your kids is already named after your parents so then your kids are named after a couple… that fucked… so you can be conceived… but Ykw Harry. I love you. You ain’t really know shit about any marauders because someone (albus) got yo parents killed. So Ykw. Do you bae… do you!

Play for Today: Bavarian Night (BBC, 1981)
"These bloody middle class parents, ooh, they do get up my nose! You can work yourself blue in the face for them, go out of your way to accommodate them, but it's no use! They're just out to carve and criticise and try to make a fool out of you! Oh, I felt like - I'm ashamed to tell you what I felt like."
"Giving her a good hiding?"
"Yes, somebody should have done, I don't mind saying so! Oh, they make me sick! Always had their own way, always had the best of everything; she should have been brought up in our house, my dad would've had her sorted! I'm sorry, Estelle, this isn't like me, I know. Well, that's my evening spoilt for a start!"
"But what about the sausages?"
#play for today#bavarian night#1981#single play#andrew davies#jack gold#bob peck#sarah badel#malcolm terris#arwen holm#barrie rutter#gawn grainger#kristopher kum#allan surtees#christine hargreaves#noel collins#brian protheroe#jack chissick#karen craig#a comparatively rare original work from Davies‚ who already in 81 was known chiefly for his adaptations of the work of others#a comic piece about a teacher parent social evening which descends into predictable chaos what with the heavy consumption of alcohol and#the loudly decried lack of sausages. Davies' script is frequently very witty‚ sometimes very funny indeed‚ but in a rather grotesque way#you can tell there's little warmth in his writing for most of the characters on display here: the late great Peck is the ostensible lead‚ a#hypocritical intellectual who waxes lyrical about his love for his children but who really just mines them for material for his job as a#scriptwriter; Rutter's would be progressive young head teacher quickly reveals his reactionary‚ petty nature‚ while Grainger is positively#repulsive as a middle class fascist whose desire to teach the younger generation he despises a lesson in manners is tempered only by his#own cowardice. warmth is reserved only for Badel‚ as Peck's cheating wife who at least retains a streak of humanity and a willingness to#stand by her (mildly) socialist principles‚ and particularly for Kum as the sole parent actually interested in learning more about his#daughter's education and progress (and whose bemused response to the increasingly bacchanalian mood of the evening is often the funniest#thing here). a sharp satirical piece on the mores of 80s English suburbia and the petite bourgeoisie‚ and a genuinely funny play

capitalism by oingo boingo is so wild like. it’s jarring to hear a satirical song from the perspective of an older guy talking about how kids are socialist revolutionary special snowflakes these days. and it came out in 1981. so the “kids” are gen x. and yet it translates to being about gen z kids seamlessly 40+ years later. like wow we’re really still fighting for the same shit after all this time huh

dangerous when neat, a neat story
Tumblr media
They add a joke for Little Jughead. Big Jughead has already worn dresses and will continue to do so sporadically. Little Jughead's cross-dressing is probably less frequent but undoubtedly you can find a case of two.
Tumblr media
They remove the funeral reference. Also there is no longer any demand to "take it off". Initially Mr. Weatherbee is handing Jughead a new suit right there to an undershirt and boxers wearing Jughead. In the Little Jughead version, we move to a scene with a faculty meeting over Jughead's dress before he gets a fancy suit to wear. This changes reaction shots from faculty in the original to students in the Little Jughead variant.
Tumblr media
Situationally, the boy gobsmacked by Jughead's appearance and so distracted at the drinking fountain normally gets played at Riverdale High with a boy reacting to, like, a girl in a mini-skirt.
Tumblr media
Funny that the dropping of the dated "Desi and Dino" reference takes us to "cuter than ever" -- suggesting they have always found him cute. A different changed reaction from the love interest in Jughead's life in a later variation of this basic premise.
Tumblr media
A bullying sequence with homophobic notes to it. Limp wrist gestures, huh?
Tumblr media
And everything gets set right in whatever version we are talking, including where Jughead can go necktie-less, and back to the blue sweatshirt -- until he wears a red one.

I wish someone else came up with Harry Potter. :/
It’s like everyone in the world is slowly expanding. Whether it’s as a person or personal opinions and beliefs, or anything really. Books, cinema, wtv wtv. It’s like the Harry Potter franchise stays at the same spot never moving. Because the creator never moves. The creator is one of those people you can’t whatsoever talk into anything. When she says something it happens or doesn’t whether you want it or not. And you’d think that’d be good. But the creator has this mindset that’s unacceptable . But somehow she created the masterpiece. Beautiful world. And though it’s so beautiful and amazing. It stays- still. Do you get me? It could be so much more if she was out of the picture. There’s so much being stopped with the wave of her hand. Imagine what we could have. Imagine the ideas in your head that could become reality. It’s like she’s stuck in the frozen world. She’s repeating and repeating and repeating instead of moving forward and creating. So we’re stuck rewatch her. Disappointed and bored.
