The TOS Enterprise Crew as Hobby Fish

The wonderful @cloudilicious asked me what fish each member of the Enterprise crew would be, and man did that get me thinking. Here's what I settled on. I stuck to the fish I'm knowledgeable about (AKA the ones we sell at my work)

Captain Kirk--Betta Fish

Flashy and attractive, bettas have an unfair reputation of being "easy" and "aggressive". They're destined to be alone unless fitted with just the right group. The reality is that they're very curious and intelligent and loves figuring things out. (This specific betta is my own little guy, Leonard)

Uhura-- Harlequin Rasbora

These fish do best in large schools and are very social. They can be sassy, but genuinely can get along with just about anyone.

McCoy-- Cory Catfish

Cory cats are "helpers"-- they work to clean the tank. They can cohabitate with bettas and get along with most fish-- but they'd compete for resources with other bottom feeders, so I wouldn't recommend them with kuhli loaches.

Chekov-- Goldfish

Goldfish have a reputation for being unintelligent, but they're actually pretty smart. They can still be dumbasses, though. They sometimes eat rocks if you're not careful.

Scotty-- Electric Blue Acara Cichlid

Blue acaras are generally peaceful, but are still considered semi-aggressive and can get territorial and protective. Cichlids are crafty and smart, and I have been outsmarted by one before when trying to catch it.

Spock-- Black Kuhli Loach

A more "alien" looking fish, they act differently from other, more classic looking fish. They stick to the bottom or swim in large circles. Still, they need a community to fit into and do best in schools. Can coexist with bettas.

Chapel-- Angelfish

Angelfish are known for committing to their partners and getting sad without them. They are typically protective and know how to hold their ground.

Sulu-- Sanke Swordtail

These fish are the whole package: friendly, well-rounded, hardy, and good for beginners. Plus, the males have a sword-like shape to their back fins.
