I just found out supporting the woman in this picture offends Christians so much so next time any Christian bigot barks about gender roles, i'm gonna send them this pic and tell them "I can serve johnny boy in dinner."

I was asked before the "Spooky season" series to make posts about Jack and the Beanstalk, and I still plan to. I also evoked how I was looking at the Delarue-Tenèze catalogue (which is basically a spin-off of the Aarne-Thompson classification, centered exclusively around French or French-speaking fairytales).
And there is a fascinating thing: the element of the hero planting a bean (offered by some mysterious supernatural being, a fairy, a sorcerer or just a random old man/magic beggar/mysterious old woman met on the street) and said bean growing into a giant beanstalk that reaches the sky is present in various types of French folktales ( it isn't a "haricot" like in the Jack tale but a "fève". Both translate as bean in English, but they're different kinds of beans).
However here is the trick. Every time this element is present in the fairytales, it is basically as an "introduction" episode which explains how the hero got a special item or a specific power they will then use in the tale. There is no actual story focused around the giant beanstalk. And the second twist is that every time this element is introduced, it is in the context of the Christianization of the fairytales - because the beanstalk doesn't just reach the sky, it reaches Heaven, and so the hero will always meet there a character of Christianity (or rather one of the figures of the Christian religion reused often in various French folktales and local fairytales). The four main types of encounters at the top are: "le bon Dieu" (the good God, a colloquial and popular name for God, which is very often used in the folkloric approach to religion), the Virgin Mary, Saint Peter (saint Pierre, because he is in folklore the gatekeeper of Heaven, the old man waiting by the gate with the keys) or "insert here your local saint whose cult impregnates the area the fairytale comes from".

FAIRY TALE ART SERIES | Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Little Mermaid' | PART I
I previously uploaded this design for my interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid, but added a new look for her, based on the original story, complete with a wreath of lilies and oysters from her grandmother, and her veil as well.
I plan to draw designs for the other characters in the story as well!
