Dork Diaries: my thoughts on Book 16

I just finished Book 16 yesterday and I was so pleasantly surprised! It's probably one of my favourite books in the series! (Spoilers ahead!)

My thoughts:

-I think it was a realistic scenario that Nikki was going through about her insecurities. With Chloe and Zoey branching out into new activities and making new friends, I can understand why Nikki would be feeling the way that she was. Especially since they're going to be starting at a new school.

-I like how this book was more grounded in reality as opposed to fantastical situations like getting a TV show, touring with a band, etc.

-I like how the headphones situation showed that doing the right thing (i.e., helping the store employee not get trampled) ended up benefiting Nikki and Zoey in the end. (Instead of the whole "no good deed goes unpunished" thing.)

-I really loved Brianna's POV. Even though she's supposed to be the "bratty" little sister, I find her less annoying than Nikki lol. And it was just so refreshing to get to hear from a different character. (I also loved Book 9 with MacKenzie's POV.)

-The emergency was actually kind of serious and I liked the change in tone. I knew as soon as it mentioned the right-side pain that it was going to turn out to be appendicitis! So I liked how that clue was thrown in there. And there was something morbidly funny about Brianna wreaking havoc on Nikki's phone/diary while Nikki was going through a medical crisis. And everyone being annoyed with Nikki when she was in dire distress.

-MacKenzie visits the hospital to make sure Nikki is okay. Though she makes up some lame excuse about being there as Brandon's emotional support. Don't lie MacKenzie! You were totally there for Nikki!

-I think the authors must be self aware about some of the stuff being said about the series, based off a few things in this book, as well as the last book.

Anyways, I'm really hopeful for Book 17. I think the series is on a good trajectory here!
