🎃 WELCOME TO THE FRIGHT SIDE! 🍂

These are circa 2021 when a dear friend suggested watching Scary Godmother's animated movie. I gotta confess: until then I never knew the existence of it... and less that it was based on a series of short stories and comic books! I fell COMPLETELY IN LOVE with the characters and setting and AAA

But especially, what held tight to my heart was the narrative of this amazing writer and illustrator, @jillthompson , creating this whole fantasy world to make "friends with the scary side" and reveal that even monsters fear and can be your best allies ♥

I'm so glad I found her work, it keeps inspiring me to reach that level of love for storytelling and to never be afraid to show the themes and aesthetics that move us deeply!

PS Those last pics portray a grown-up Hannah Marie based on Miss Thompson's concept art she showed in one of the books.

10yr old brother is being Beowulf for Halloween. I suggested making Grendel's arm as a prop.

"Oh what a good idea!" My mom says. "No one will know who he is otherwise!"

Me: "I'm not sure most people are going to know either way."

Mom, sounding confused: "What do you mean? Beowulf and Grendel and his Mare was one of the first stories my dad told me. Even before the normal fairy tales."

Me: "I don't think that's typical."

Well, I made an arm out of tin foil and she covered it in paper mache and paint and it actually looks pretty good. Mom's best idea was to add a heart tattoo with "Mare" in the middle of it.

This is just a long way of saying I love my mom.

Children's Book Fest 2022

huge fan of the idea of little traces of the werehog still being left even after unleashed. maybe its something as major as sonic still being able to turn into the werehog under certain conditions. or maybe its just something small like having a little extra fluff and unusually sharp fangs and claws. maybe he still occasionally slips into werehog-like behaviors. idk. i just dont think that you can absorb part of a darkness god and then go completely back to normal once its gone
