Around the block... the world!
Obama claimed for 4 more years... Well, in my case, it ended up being 4 more kilos! I realized I had have always problem with the merges and mixes of food. For example, eating an schnitzel or milanesa with pasta - apparently a very common thing to do in Uruguay- for me itâs terrible. It doesnât match. And although I love traveling, tasting and discovering multiple and diverse flavors, the quantity and diversification has never been an issue, but, eating everything at the same time is.Â
And, when it comes to NYC, I experience this on its maximum expression on Delis. I just cant deal with them: a muslim guy, specialist in kebbabs, will wrap your fajitas and served them with a salad bowl, some fried riced, chicken tikka masala and spring rolls. Dont forget the fried mozzarella sticks with some sushi and fresh sashimi.Â
New York has millions of great thing. But one thatâs on the top 5 letâs say, is the possibility that gives you of traveling around the world with your mouth within a subway ride. I experienced this climax when recently arrived from HK. I had the chance to eat the same goodness I had in Tsim Sha Tsui 2 weeks ago one block away from Times Square, and by the same, I mean THE SAME restaurant, so imagine... how crazy is that??
So here they are, fighting my weirdness of âavoid mixing foodâ mantra, in no particular order, in a mix and match menage of options, the delights and beautiful dishes Iâve been indulging myself with:Â
German Food Comma @ Spritzenhaus 33Â
Chicken Biriani, Masala Mutton with Garlic & Cheese Pratta @ Milon
Best Mexican Brunch: Huevos Rancheros and Special Nachos @ Cosme
Afternoon Vegan Cravings: Deviled Eggs and a Delicious Cabbage Pure & Top Notch Waffles @ The Butcherâs Daughter
Top Hipster Brunching @ Five LeavesÂ
Trying to decide what dish to have in Flatiron? Go for the Hand-made Meat Lasagna @ Eataly
Hidden and out-of-the-radar Italian? Try the Fresh Burrata @ AnnellaÂ
Looking forward for Indonesian? Go for Deviled Eggs & Spicy Papaya Salad @ Selamat Pagi (sadly closed)
Conney Island ignites the inner Italo-American Tony we all have inside? Put that Pepperonni Pizza @ Totonoâs in ma face!Â
Aussie you said? NYC has it! Mouthwatering Avocado & Eggs Toast @ Roxy
Mascarpone Filled Dates with Parma Ham @ Briciola
Best Octopus @ Her Name Was CarmenÂ
Tuna Poke at Seamores
Best Lobster Roll @ The Lobster Joint and/or LukeâsÂ
First-date spots and best bone marrow @ 21 GreenpointÂ
Looking for the real Mexican taste, avoiding all Tex-Mex BS? La Esquina, with the speakeasy bonus, is da best!Â
Korean Instagramable dessert? Yes, please! @Room cafe
For authentic Nepalese food:Â Nepalese Indian Restaurant
Visit the amazing @ Archestratus for a delight for your eyes (they sell the best cooking books) and your belly with these unique Arancine
Some more tips: -For the finest Oysters with a view in TriBeCa? Grand Banks -Best Chinese Szechuan is found @ Kings Imperial. -Drinks and Italian charcuterie @ Have & Mayer. -Craving for Peruvian fusion? @LlamaInn has your back. -Lilia is your one-stop Italian place. -Aperol Spritz @ Serria, Eataly rooftop. -For a Singaporean feast, @ Rasa is your place to go.Â

Youâd never know by looking that such interesting flavours await behind the door of this unprepossessing corner cafe. Thereâs a dozen seats and a blackboard menu of local cafÊ staples - sandwiches, salads and cakes. But at lunchtime they serve up four different Burmese style curries, each with rice, grated carrot and home pickled chilis. There will be spicy beef, a chicken dish (maybe with lentils, maybe with coconut) and always a vegetarian option. This might be pumpkin curry; mixed vegetable; chickpea or aubergine. They also do a great chicken biriani too, with a chicken leg falling off the bone in a gently spiced and subtly sweet coconut milk sauce. And all for a five or six quid. Lovely.

Yesterday (13/10) dinner with my mate Stuart was a great experience. Nepalese dinner with a glass of Shiraz on gorgeous 22deg Melbourne night. We ordered Momo for starter and as for main we ordered their famous goat curry and my all time fav chicken briyani with caramelised raita. Momo (in Tibetan cooking) a steamed dumpling filled with meat and vegetables. Nahum and sons
At the beginning of 2013, the depleting Jewish community of Kolkata and many non-Jewish kolkats mourned the passage of David Elias Nachum, the longtime owner of the Nachum and Sons confectionery factory. The famous icon of Kolkata, the bakery was first created by Nahum Israel in 1902, an Iraqi Jew who immigrated from Baghdad. At the beginning of half a century, this lively city was home to 3,000 to 5,000 Jewish people, where they created their own schools, synagogues and newspapers and brought traditional Jewish products with them. Now only a handful of Jewish people are left - about 25 people. However, their influence is still evident in several Jewish bakeries of the city, who no longer love the candy âNakhum and Sonsâ. The Jewish tradition of baking is conducted by Isaac, brother of David Nahum. Visitors to the New Market area of ââthe city can find stacks of cakes and rum balls, as well as a rich selection of cakes, cookies, pastries and fresh breads from the oven.

Grand scale, great taste SELFRIDGES FOOD HALL
Last week I needed to get out, after a week of grey and drizzle, so I got a bus to Selfridges and spent the happiest half hour ever - just wandering around the Food Hall and drooling over the deliciousness on offer.
Many people would go to the store for handbags, perfumes or the latest in fashion design. But for me the food display is like being transported to a market in a foreign country. So with no travel on the horizon for a couple of months, I can share with you what you can find in London W.1.
First Italy: huge parmesan wheels, pasta and artichokes, below.
India: chicken biriani
The waters surrounding the British Isles:
The finest Butchery: Angus beef (joints) , fillet steak
cooked roast beef slices
Coffee
Growing lettuces
Bottles of popcorn
It's not just the taste and variety - it is the humour and the design that makes a visit to Selfridges Food Hall more uplifting than almost anything else at the moment.
Coming up soon: some of their sweet offerings.

Thereâs something about Indian food that Iâve always found comforting yet also painful (in a totally good way). I always tell my friends that Indian food should make me sweat. Now I know what youâre thinking... Indian food in Central Alabama? Yes, and itâs good! Auburn actually has 3 Indian places: Curry to Go, Good Karma, and Bombay Grill. Curry to Go and Good Karma are your âquick serviceâ street food options, and Bombay is a sit down place.Â
Now my first impression on this place was the sign. It says âCurry to Go & Vape Lifeâ... Now I donât know about yâall, but I donât really think nicotine juice and chicken tikka masala really go together. The restaurant is located on Magnolia St. in one of the two store fronts at Legends of Magnolia apartments. If you walk in the entrance on Magnolia, the vape shop is in the front part. I looked confused at the guy at the counter and he politely pointed me through a doorway to where the food is. Now I will say that the food kiosk is no much to behold at all, but most street food places arenât known for the architecture. It kind of gave me a school cafeteria vibe, so much that the menu was written in dry erase marker. They have pretty standard offerings from masala curries, birianis, samosas, and vegetarian options. The meal option I went for was the two protein and rice for $9.99 which is a great deal for the amount of food you get. I opted for the Beef Curry and the Lamb Rogan Josh. For me, I thought the beef was a little bland and dry, which was a little upsetting. The lamb however was nice and tender, a good bit of flavor and a mild kick of spice. It was good, and I think itâs a great option if youâre walking around downtown Auburn, and you want Indian food. An added plus of this place is on the bottom righthand corner of the sign it says âHalalâ. For those of you who arenât familiar with the term: Halal is to Islam and Kosher is to Judaism. The two overlap in a lot of ways, but there are some differences. I think thats a very cool and interesting designation to have in our ever growing and diverse community.Â
