Moriarty 8 - 11 (FINAL) | HypMic 12 - 13 (FINAL) | Taiso Samurai 7 - 9 | Akudama 9 - 12 (FINAL)
Hopefully Iâll be able to get on to all that backlog soon, because...I donât want it to keep accumulating and Skate-Leading Stars (first winter 2021 anime) already has an advance 1st ep. up...
Moriarty 8
(Moriarty 8 notes deleted accidentallyâŠ)
Moriarty 9
If you want a modern equivalent to the Baker Street Irregulars, then Iâd suggest you look this way *jabs finger at Odd Jobs Yamada (from HypMic)*.
These CGI background horse and carriages areâŠkind of distractingâŠ
Iâm guessing back in those days, the Irregulars were better than Google at finding infoâŠbecause Google didnât exist until the internet did.
Moriarty 10
Just this ep and one more until the endâŠat least, until spring 2021.
Wow, the use of colour here is really striking!
White lilies meanâŠpurity/chastityâŠ?
Iâve never heard of âbending someoneâs earâ until now. It means to talk to someone, especially to ask a favour or to talk at length.
Probatio diabolica: the devilâs proof. I didnât even know that was a concept until nowâŠ(I never once studied law, as you can tell.)
âWilliamâ isnât normally shortened to âLiamââŠItâs normally âWillââŠalso, notice all the footprints on the floorâŠ
Moriarty 11 (FINAL)
Last ep. before spring 2021.
LOL, kabedon.
The fishy thing about Brits is that theyâve named things across the world names from Britain. I know thereâs a Doncaster which isnât anywhere near Britain, for one thingâŠ
Observe the weird finger-like marking made by one of the bloodstains and the scratches on the suitcase. The latter was probably forced open.
Considering the number of signs the killer left, he was clearly in a hurryâŠ
Well, based on that shoeprint we can find the killer if we can find traces of blood on his shoe.
âDuramâ (sic).
Ah! If it was raining in Durham, then there would be traces of mud on the killerâs shoes. I remember early on in Detective Conan Shinichi, then newly shrunk, deduced Agasa was running in the rain based on the mud on his pantsâŠthis is similar.
Chloral (hydrate).
The âwashroomâ (apparently a Canadian term, the British term is âwater closetâ) has privacy and a place to get rid of the evidence, to some extent.
What about the rest of Eddieâs clothes?
Considering there are still 5 minutes of the ep. leftâŠthereâs going to be some kind of stinger for the next season. I can feel it.
WaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaitâŠDirector Holmes??? Yâmean, Mycroft?! That is a good stinger! See you next time.
HypMic 12
âEver since I was born, there was never a time Iâd felt Iâd accomplished something.â â Aw, Doppo, sweetpea (<- this blogger calls people âsweetpeaâ when theyâre feeling lots of moe feels for them). Please donât say that. Youâve accomplished more than enough in your life!
âŠOh, almost didnât notice it until Hifumi hid behind Doppo and the angle changed to confirm the jacket was on the bed, but Hifumi doesnât have his jacket on.
I think I saw a tweet that said something about a wall being wrecked (specifically âWall: OwâŠâ) but I wasnât sure of the context, so I saved it in my bookmarksâŠLOL, so thatâs what it means?
Samatoki, I know you donât like IchiroâŠbut please stop trying to preach what his 2nd character song says in the titleâŠ(i.e. Break the Wall, LOL)
Jyutoâs very much a âIâll leave this problem to the other guyâ guy.
When the Funi subs say âdameâ, I think Samatoki is just referring to an âonnaâ (woman). Itâs a bit of an odd choice, reallyâŠalthough I canât go and interrogate whoever was responsible for it. I donât have the authority or the contacts that will allow me to.
This is not the time for fighting one another!!!
Notably, in the manga, Jakurai was going to chaffeur Hifumi and Doppo to their place, but then he had to go to work and so they rode the train with their prize money. This ârun from Special Forcesâ ending is better, I think, since people got grumpy at Jakurai for having to abandon them with the money.
ââŠpermission to cover a story.â - Permission fromâŠwho?
*screams* I was thinking Tom, Rex and Iris worked for a foreign government! They work for Ichijiku â why didnât I think of that?!
LOL, I couldnât even tell what Tom was saying until I played it backâŠitâs English, justâŠsaid in a spot where you donât expect it.
ââŠthat scares me.â â This may be nitpicky of me, but osoreru is actually a derivative of osore (fear), so âit strikes fear in meââŠ? âIt strikes fear in my heartâ? What would sound rightâŠ?
Go, host mode Hifumi! (...but does that imply host mode Hifumi is the only âversionâ of Hifumi able to rap? Certainly, he was able to do Wrap and Rap without his jacket, rightâŠ?)
You can tell Tom still respects Jakurai after all this time because he (the former) calls him (the latter) âSenseiâ. Also, thisâll be interesting, we havenât seen many mics and speakers beyond the standard bad guy ones (depicted in both the anime and the manga).
My gosh! All I knew of this song was that m-flo, also responsible for Human Lostâs theme song (and notably theyâre a hip hop group with techno influences), was responsible for this song. Man, this s*** slaps! Itâs great! (Sorry, Iâve just never really had the chance to capitalise on all the info I gathered on EDM DJs when talking in terms of things from JapanâŠm-flo is basically the only act I know which does that, so Iâm really excitedâŠcanât you tell from how verbose Iâm getting in this note?)
Thatâs interesting that Matenrou won and Tom still took the gold chair symbolism to represent him and the Secret Aliens as the victor instead.
Irisâs parts are awesome. M-flo has a female vocalist and so Iâd assume Iris takes on Lisaâs (m-floâs vocalistâs) parts.
âŠHmm, Gentaroâs made a reference to the track âMe Against the Worldâ, has he?...Maybe.
Iâm not quite sure, but I think Ramuda said âmajoâ (witch) when he was referring to Beauty and the Beast in the English subs.
âŠgosh, what is up with that airhornâŠ? Still, next time is the last time. See you on ChristmasâŠno, Boxing Day.
HypMic 13 (FINAL)
This is the beginning of the end and the end of the beginningâŠyâknow, considering how stuff trended on Twitter, Iâd say this animeâs gonna get a 2nd season, but you canât really say that until it actually happens. I mean, Boueibu is much less popular than HypMic and that got a 2nd seasonâŠ
This is the 1st episode where I woke up early enough to watch without spoilers and had no obligations to place over it, soâŠthis is exciting, in its own sense, but in a sense, it could also be called âprofoundly disappointingâ because this experience is only available to me as of the final episode.
One of the tweets I saw a few weeks back came to mind â someone became interested in sakuga houkai (terrible animation, literally âanimation collapseâ) because of HypMicâŠI donât know if thatâs a good or a bad thingâŠ
âŠDude, you probably shouldnât answer a call from someone who just revealed themselves to be a traitor last episodeâŠ*sweatdrops*
(Spoiler for rest of franchise) HmmâŠDiceâs face is pretty straight. Assuming at this point we knew Dice was Otomeâs son, this is a good poker face from himâŠ!
This thing about gangs was mentioned in their profiles (although the words used implies they âwent delinquentâ), so it actually doesnât surprise me.
I wonder if this subway exists in the mainline story
According to the next ep. preview I saw on Twitter, TDD will reform to take down the Secret Aliens. Iâm not sure if that was a guess or whether thatâs true, so Iâm waiting for the shoe to drop on it.
Samatoki-san, not -sama. HmmâŠ
There was definitely the word âteamâ in Diceâs line, so itâs âwhat the legendary team was made ofâ.
âŠoh goshâŠtheyâre still using that airhornâŠ?
Again with the play on âlonely thunderâ. Itâs a really fun pun, but one Iâd like to see in the rest of the series more.
Notably, Irisâs rap in English missed the word âcharismaâ where it could have fit (unless I missed reading it the first time).
Note Samatoki does actually use the word âshinsensaâ (freshness), so thereâs no lie there.
I still love how much they went in on Rexâs theme, even in his raps.
Huh, thatâs new. Never seen a tag team like this before.
It seems Tomâs signature is using a lot of English, which makes it easy for us English/Japanese pair translators.
Saburo didnât actually say âIchi-niiâ, did heâŠ?
âŠbased on the rock intro, this is Rhyme Anima, the OP, or something that sounds similar. What Iâd need to confirm this is the ânautilusâ line and the âends corruptionâ line, which are the OPâs two biggest tells for AMQ.
ârainmakingâ â Hmm, another link from Gentaro to Rei. This might be a different part of Rhyme Anima (OP) that wasnât used as the OP proper.
âthis white light invites and healsâ (<- paraphrased) â Sounds like Sensei, alright!
âŠnow that (rainbow bit). Thatâs sakuga!
*a silhouette appears* - Oh nooooooooooooooo! Now theyâve done it! Theyâve included Rei! Thatâs more than enough spoilers to last a lifetime for yâall anime-onlys!
I wish someone would work on this collaboration between Saburo and RiouâŠ
HmmâŠwhat is the series endgame? Putting in Dice as the new ruler??? I mean, Dice is the worst possible politician ever. Heâs far too lax about things.
*Nemu enters* - No! Nemu!
Not only is Iris a âramen shop ownerâ, itâs Tomâs favourite foodâŠNo wonder ramen has significance to her.
âŠooh! A new song! Update: I donât know what this songâs name is, although it probably will become clear what its name is on the 13th. Iâll keep my eye on Twitter in case the answer is there.
âŠI knew it was far too early to say if there was an s2 â the DVDâs live events go until September 5th and the 2nd DRB finishes in March. That almost felt like a stinger right there. Oh well, Iâm more than happy to call this anime a success, even if I would call it the worst of the arms of the franchise. All HypMicâs anime had to do was deliver fun, before anything else, and it delivered on that front. See you around!
Taiso Samurai 7
Anime burnout means Iâm coming back to the anime after the day it finishes.
This dancing scene is kind of like the one at the start of ep. 2 of IWGP, except it has the owl to represent the setting as well as the dance stage.
Leo doesnât seem to know kanji or katakana, only hiragana.
Even though this part of the anime is set in London, the characters are still speaking Japanese (lel).
LOL, Edward Scissorhands much?
LOL, these background gossips are like the Plastics from Mean GirlsâŠhaha.
âŠLOL, thatâs not one of those dismounting moves, is it? Itâs just kind ofâŠjumping off the bar.
Lookit how Leoâs sticker is 90 deg. sideways from what it should be, haha.
I donât think itâs true that Olympic gymnasts have never failed. Like other people at the top of their game, theyâre probably failed millions of times, but only outside the view of most of the world. Persistence and passion are whatâs key to becoming the best at what you are, no matter what field youâre in.
Now Aragakiâs what I call a âdeterminatorâ (see TV Tropes on what that is).
Taiso Samurai 8
Notably, the word used for âclothesâ is specifically for Western clothing, like dresses.
Well, now we know why Leo can do those stretchesâŠ
Theyâve clearly sped up the dance here, butâŠitâs basically the same sort of movements Yuri on Ice used to suck me in. Iâm here for it!
Leo seems to be the type who tries to push away his worries by distracting people (including himself) with other thingsâŠI see. I didnât have much of a grasp of his character beforehand.
Britney! F*** you, Britney!
Ah, that must be the (a?) fabled owl of Ikebukuro. Iâve never actually been to IkebukuroâŠthe closest I got was Akihabara (to memory) and even then, that was for electronics, not animeâŠso Iâve never seen the owl statue Iâve been talking about close up.
Rei does kind of look like her mother like this.
Ah! Rei and Kitty have a pair look now! âTwinsiesâ, they call it.
Amakusaâs head is located right next to Leoâs butt, so I end up staring at itâŠLOL.
The Hoover mission.
âI <3 Ninjaâ, LOL.
LOL, âNyapoo!â
*sighs* The problem with being multi-talented is that youâre going to be told to one day put one passion above the others, even if you donât want that.
LOL, you can be a ninja with this WikiHow article. (I was looking for Kittyâs quote, but found that instead. It seems to be a quote from one of Tomoyoâs movies.) Update: I was right.
Thereâs a movie in the back where the title is âBlack Rainmakerâ. (Tomoyo, I presume) Mifune is the 1st person credited.
Considering this is 2003âŠyou wonât be on Mars in 2013, Kitty.
Wow, a tape! That brings me back to 2003, indeed.
Charlieâs AngelsâŠso thatâs what the tape was.
LOL, a shoebill.
âblade in your heartâ â That would refer to the character for âninjaâ, which has a blade over a heart. Yâknow Kiss Shot Acerola Heart-Under-Blade (from Monogatari), yeah? Like that.
âŠyou might think emails were out of place in 2003, but a virus from an email caused me to be an avid reader and that virus was unleashed around the late 90s â early 2000s.
LOL, Kittyâs cat belt buckle.
You said it, Rei. You said it.
Taiso Samurai 9
Lausanne, Switzerland.
I noticed one of the boxes at the start of the OP says âHorizontal Barsâ, rather than some random name to make the boxes look like they were discarded.
Someone encoded the video funnyâŠ
LOL, BBâs getting possessive of his territory.
Fuku-chan the fukurou (owl) in IkebukuroâŠLOL.
LOL, randomly thereâs a skeleton with a hat in the background of Britneyâs clinic.
Notably, one of the wall hangings says âheartâ on it â alternatively, âsoulâ.
Notably, Atlanta was the 1996 Summer OlympicsâŠthere is no 1997 Lausanne Olympics, as far as I know.
Akudama 9
I watched the part where it glitches twice and I canât quite figure out what that circular symbol isâŠmaybe itâs Hackerâs symbolâŠ?
Ah! Only now they properly confirm Swindler used to work in the Seal centre.
âLife that never dies is defective.â â Doctor
Does that mean Doctor is actually older than she looks, due to plastic surgery
Marker? What marker?
Apparently that flower is a cherry blossomâŠaccording to Detective Conan.
âŠI know this anime wasnât made in America (it wouldnât be âanimeâ otherwise), but Anime Feminist is going to have a field day with this oneâŠif they havenât abandoned it already due to their idea of morals.
âŠnow I can even see parallels between HypMicâs authorities and Akudamaâs. Not sure if thatâs a good thing or not.
âWhy did this have to happen when Iâm chief?â â Sounds likeâŠbasically every authority during COVID and BLM, to be honest.
See? Akudama likes the S word. I told you.
I havenât watched The Shining, but reading the synopsis, you can figure out why Cutthroat is the way he isâŠsort of.
How does the iconic quote go? âHeeeeeeeeeeeereâs Danny!â (or somethingâŠ?)
They even copied the iconic eye shot! There you go!
Way to take a guy out (with the door, LOL).
âŠwith all this killing, I can see why Akudama Drive was only in one magazine now. (Then again, HypMic was in basically all of them and that also has a tonne of problemsâŠ)
Akudama 10
äžæ» literally means â10000 deathsâ.
Babel.
That police chief is such a mood, LOL.
I can see why people didnât recognise Swindler, but Courier never changes his look, soâŠuhâŠ
You canât become a police chief without a sense of justice, no?
âSince when did you know that Iâm not-â - *facepalms*
Is this what they call an âass-kickinâ Christmasâ? (LOL)
Yâknow, Sister, you could just do the whole âwherever you are, Iâm also seeing the same sky as youâ thing some other anime do.
Notably, there are shide (the paper strips) and a rope over the vaultâŠthey really do treat the shinkansen and its immortal children as a single god, huh?
Hmm? They donât care about Sister anymore? Just Brother? (Somewhere along the way, the priorities must have shifted.)
In the end, the best ship is Brawler and Hoodlum (lel).
Akudama 11
One more ep after this. Iâm gonna miss this anime, even if it was crazy over-the-top and I didnât finish it until after the day it ended.
I think the scariest scene in all of Akudama Drive is the one where the âcleanerâ tosses the girl aside.
âThis nowhere place!â â Around this time, the bunny and sharkâs shirts say âmorningâ/âafternoonâ (shark) and âeveningâ (bunny).
The blue bird of happinessâŠliterally. That character on the birds is the one for âhappyâ.
âŠLOL, that one glitched Courier looks more like Cutthroat.
Hackerâs drone matches Courierâs head angles, LOL.
I guess if you think youâre falling in Kanto, youâre falling in Kanto and if you think youâre floating (like Courier did), you float. I always liked that concept.
War Games. Now the title makes sense!
âŠbut they can be together if they stay here in Kanto as vessels for the citizens? (That sounds mighty antagonistic of me, butâŠthat logic does compute.)
Maybe swindlers play games with the truth (What an interesting concept.)
âJust fine.â â I think Hacker needs a âThis is fineâ meme.
âWe can hear your heart talking.â â It means something like âWe can hear you spouting your true intentions.â
ââŠworth every last pennyâŠâ â Thatâs a weird thing to say for someone whose life got changed by 500 yenâŠJust goes to tell you how American the subbers can be sometimes.
Swindlerâs smug face is so good, LOL.
Akudama 12 (FINAL)
This episode isnât named after a movie. Itâs named after the anime itself.
The TV says âPlease watch away from the TVâ, i.e. stand back from the TV while you watch.
âThey came and stole the offeringsâŠâ â At this point, bunnyâs shirt says âfreedomâ and sharkâs says honpou, meaning âwild, uninhibited, rampant, extravagantâ.
âŠwhere did Shikoku come from? Is that where Swindler and Sister landed after they tried going to the moon?
Ohh! That Christian imagery! Thatâs scary!
Is Akudama Drive a tragedy? No, I thinkâŠon the contrary, itâs a story of hope.
LOL, âs*** guyâ.
I thought the girl had a bomb. Turns out she has a gun, which isâŠfar worse, come to think of it.
Instead of red characters which say things about the situation, now Shark and Bunny have Hackerâs symbol on them.
Thereâs no way anyone who wasnât immortal would survive the attack Courier tookâŠ
âŠwhy is it that falling over represents vulnerability in children in all of these stores where a war has happened and/or thereâs a chase? Hmm?
Wow, Sister did everything with heels on!
Anyways, that was a fun time. See you next time!

Moriarty 5 - 7 | HypMic 10 - 11
Moriarty 5
Saitoâs Moriarty and Gentaro voices are quite similar, now that I compare them.
ââŠheâs a good egg at heart.â â LOL, never thought Iâd be reading subtitles that said that.
Oh, so that was Frida on the bridge?
I wonder, is Moriarty like Bon and nursing a weak leg with that cane? Or is the cane just a symbol of nobility?
Moriarty 6
The Titanic? Wasnât there a Black Butler arc based on it?
LOL, these people in the foreground are CGI.
âŠis that the grapefruit guy? (Beats me, I havenât watched this in weeks and am only returning to it because Scott keeps mentioning spoilers. The only thing Iâm keeping up with properly is HypMic and my Kanon watch with #AniTwitWatchesâŠand soon Iâll add the final episodes of Sailor Moon to it.)
Found him! Sherlock Holmes! I sort of triangulated from buzz around me that he appears in this episode.
Whatâs with the skull ring Holmes wears?
âŠah, the golden ratio!
âŠOh, this is gonna get interesting! You can tell this Holmes is adept in fighting due to his build, butâŠhow did Moriarty figure out Holmes played the violin? Calluses on his hands?
Is this Holmes a womaniserâŠ? I thought the guy was often characterised as an asexual, or at the very least aromantic. Thatâs part of what makes the guy so intriguing to me - because he still has Irene.
A colliery is a coal mine. Itâs been a while since I heard that word.
Moriarty 7
The animeâs sense of colour is probably one of the most striking parts of this. Not just red, but blue and green where it counts too.
Not a fan of the 1st person camâŠ
That knife came out pretty clean for something so blood-stained.
I wanted to say ââRight,â said FredââŠbut Fred didnât talk, so I canât do that. (Dangit!)
I somehow found it slightly funny that France was ahead of Britain (America?) in forensic pathology, although I dunno what made it funny exactly.
I squealed (âŠjust a little bit) when the iconic quote came up: âWhen you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.â I have it memorised from my Detective Conan days still, see?
Next time: A Study in S (according to stuff I read, the S stands for Sherlock this time).
HypMic 10
âŠI canât believe itâs almost over already. Iâve basically been in a dream this entire seasonâŠbut then what happens once the anime is overâŠ? Waiting for the 2nd DRB to happen, I guess.
I didnât even realise, but Jiroâs varsity jacket has an owl on the bottom of the logo.
âŠâ[H]it the headâ? Wassat mean? *checks up* Oh, so it means to go to the bathroomâŠRight. Itâs US slang, which might explain a thing.
Notice Ramuda uses âJakuraiâ and not âjijiiâ or something like that during his time with Ichijiku. Also, thereâs a lot of his deep voice going aroundâŠ
You can see MTR on the poster behind Ramuda at one point.
*anguished noises* Ramuda!!! Please donât do this!!!
LOL, Sadamezuka and Kazuha.
Is âbum-rushâ even an appropriate word for this situationâŠ? US slang is weirdâŠ
âŠDoppoâs performance almost seems like a Rosho foreshadowing. Also, I love how Doppoâs screens disappear with his motivation.
âŠI saw a spoiler today on Twitter regarding Dice and meatâŠnow I get it.
âdetarameâ â I know this word means ânonsenseâ, but for some reason I memorised it as meaning âs***â at one point due to the context of Scenario Liar. I find it interesting Hifumi used a word from Scenario Liar in the first place, even though itâs not necessarily meant to be taken in that context.
âthe King of Normiesâ â For some reason, that made me laugh pretty hard. That is an accurate translation of âriajyuu no ousamaâ though.
Gentaroâs smile puts a smile on my face as well.
âcolours youâve dyedâ â Note Shibuya is constantly referred to by colours, including how PCCS (in the Shibuya 1st DRB team song) apparently means âpractical colour coordinate systemâ.
I find it interesting that Saburo was the one who mentioned holding hands as a sign of camaraderie first in the anime and then the Funi translation makes Ramuda use the same symbolism here. It may have been unintentional, though.
âŠthe subbers keep using âOMGâ and Iâm like ????. Is OMG outdated slang in 2020?
âŠwow, that holy imageryâŠthey really went all-in on Jakuraiâs godliness there.
âŠeven when knocked down, Jakuraiâs hair is still 100% gorgeous.
I noticed one of the lyrics the translators cut out of Doppoâs rap was âborderlineâ.
Ahhhhhhhhhh! This anime just kicked me where it hurts! (<- As in, it used the trope I love so much â where the underdog causes a sudden turn-around in the battle and theyâre not even aware of it!) This is why I love you, Doppo!
LOL, FP spent their countdown gossiping. Thatâs such a FP thing to do.
Hifumi seems to carry the beat in MTRâs Kizuna. Jakurai gets drowned out quite a bit, although Riou (who has a similar voice) was less drowned out.
âNo pain, no gain.â â Thatâs a good saying.
HypMic 11
2 episodes until the end! (Yikes!)
I still take some issue with subbing the laughing. Well, then again Iâve been half-deaf lately with my ears being clogged (accidentally clogged my ear up againâŠ), so I guess I shouldnât complain.
If Iâm hearing it right, Ramuda goes ânee-sanâ and not particularly anything to do with âBeautiesâ or âBeastsâ, which seems to be exclusive to the subs.
Stone guardian? I guess this has to do with jizo in Japanese. Hifumi does go ânamuâ (short for ânamu amida butsuâ) towards Doppo at the end there.
That bed isâŠwhy is it so empty if itâs meant to be the room someoneâs staying in?
Is Jyutoâs hair black or brown? Iâve been colouring it a deep brown because I think that looks nice, but it might actually be blackâŠ
I have a newfound respect for Komada ever since I found out his birthday is [secret censored â maybe if you follow the hints I leave behind, you might find out what I mean].
LOL, I spotted the fire extinguisher in one corner and was immediately reminded of how someone once translated âfire extinguisherâ to âhand grenadeâ.
âŠhow does Jakuraiâs hair work from the back? Thereâs this coil of hair that seems to go places it shouldnât beâŠ
For some reason, the subbers keep translating âsenseiâ as âthe good doctorââŠor is that the first and only time it happened?
I think itâs appropriate they discuss bonds on the day Kizuna (the ED) goes out on streaming.
âŠ*thinks about 2nd DRB, where BB vs. DH is going to happen next month* âŠYeah, you better pay attention or your daddyâs gonna come spank you boys.
Jakurai summoning his mic is always freakinâ cool. Aspire to be like this elegant man.
The wolf hand sign again.
Thereâs a pun between kizukizu (wounds) and kizuna (bonds). Update: The phrase is actually gisugisusa (stiffness, unsociability, coldness [of atmosphere] etc.), but...thereâs the same rhyming scheme, so itâs not wrong.
Doppoâs bit about Jakurai(-sensei) being a kasugai (hemostat) is, surprisingly, quite faithful, as you can tell from how those words rhyme. Hifumiâs verse mentions a monkey wrench, though.
âŠkasumitai ore ga yoi⊠- that translates to ââŠ[Jakurai is] better than us, who are like scumâŠâ Itâs a very Doppo sort of line, noting that kasu literally means âresidueâ.
I didnât realise this until now, but Riou has a piercing in one ear (his right). Itâs just in an unconventional place in the upper curve, so I never spotted it.
Samatokiâs death aesthetic really contrasts against Jakuraiâs healing one. I can see why people really liked the MTC vs. MTR fight now.
It seems the strategy to win in this series is to keep spamming your attacks. It seems hugely suitable for my pseudo-Pokemon AU, which emphasises attack over defence.
Oh! I never noticed the blue gem on Jakuraiâs mic!
Note how Samatoki said âlightning rodâ â Jakuraiâs name means âlonely thunderâ. Itâs one reason why I fell head over heels for the guy â his stupidly awesome name.
âhorse/rabbit/bush warblerâ â These refer to MTC. Samatoki, Jyuto, Riou. On that note, ARB currently has an event where Ramuda hangs out with MTC and he calls Jyuto âusa-chanâ as a pun. I find that so darn cute!
âAnd the winner isâŠMatenro!â - *cue the song, The Champion*
Notice how they put BB and FP before MTC and MTR in the EDâŠitâs foreshadowing!

Deca-Dence 5 - 6 | Moriarty 3 - 4 | Yashahime 4 - 5 | Maou-jou 4 | I7 s2 5 (22) | Akudama 4 - 5 | HypMic 5 - 6 | Taiso Samurai 4 | HPGC 4
Deca-Dence 5
ââŠcannon wonât ignite in time!â The subbers spell cannon as âcanonâ later as well.
Off to the cliffside, where Kaburagi goes to dieâŠ
Deca-Dence 6
âMaybe someone intervened.â â I think Minato did, somehow.
This Death Dive reminds me of Wipeout.
Moriarty 3
I once made up a quote that goes, âWhen life detests you, fight back.â I think itâs also roughly along the lines of advice Albert needs.
I remembered an odd line from Macbeth: âBrother, he has killed me!â Seriously, Moriarty is scarier than some actual horror anime, I swearâŠUpdate: Itâs actually âhe has killed me, Mother!â, but same impact.
I had my hands over my mouth from the moment the fire began. Thatâs how intense this is.
This EDâŠdoesnât sound like an ED. It sounds like the OP for a different anime, like Joker Game or something. Also, having Saito Soma as Gentaro and MoriartyâŠis a bit unsettling because they have a lot of overlap but oneâs basically the evil twin of the other.
Yashahime 4
ââŠwas raised hereâŠâ
ââŠwe canâŠâ
I felt a heart twinge when I saw Towa tear upâŠman, itâs been years since I last dealt with Inuyasha properly.
ââŠnights where I canât fall asleep.â â SoâŠyouâll play it a lot then, Setsuna.
Oh, so Kirara is a nekomata? I never knew until now.
Kikyo!
According to the mythology, the kirin rules over the middleâŠso why is Kirinmaru the monster in the east?
Is âs***â unwarranted here? I didnât have the volume on, so I donât knowâŠGoing back, I think Moroha said âkusoâ, but itâs still kinda weird to have a swear word in a mostly family-friendly series in a slot near Detective Conan. (Then again, Detective Conan is where I learnt âkusoâ fromâŠso my standards are probably not as up-to-scratch as they should be.)
Rin! People keep saying Rin is the mother of the girls and itâs basically the only conclusion that could be done, considering the relationship the two hadâŠbut itâs still kind of squickâŠ(Says a person who has no problem with SGRS s2âs ending.)
Update: Someone on ANN said the teacherâs name (Osamu Kirin) being similar to Kirinmaru is sketchy and I agree.
Maou-jou 4
Thereâs no pun for Rocket TurtleâŠthatâs kinda startling, actually.
Iâm not going to translate the eyecatches anymore. Seems they were actually translated in the manga and someone just copies them over or something.
Iâve seen some characters use wa when they really arenât that feminine. However, the voice Suwabe uses for the Sorceror leads me to believe this guy really is trying to be feminine, even if in just a vocal capacity.
âŠaw, no puns here too.
Oh no, the sealâŠ!
âŠhmm? The Scissors Sorcerorâs info isâŠweâre not allowed to look at it. Thatâs what the red text says.
âŠmy brain exploded for a second when I suddenly heard jazz music. Itâs a Detective Conan parody! *screams*
Iina! doesnât really mean âLucky!â It means more like âcool!â or âItâs good, isnât it?â
I7 s2 5
I missed these boys!
I like the Kinako transition. Itâs cute.
I donât really like it when Tenn looks at the screenâŠit gives me 1st person cam vibes.
Why is Tsunashi being called âthisâ, anyway?
Oh yeahâŠmensore = youkoso = welcome.
Uh ohâŠis Yuki actually evil???
Riku (earth) vs. Tenn (heaven). Hmm.
I still canât believe they donât believe Gaku is the soba guy. Itâs so obvious!
Chikuzen-ni.
Someone on staff ships Gaku and Tsumugi togetherâŠhmmâŠ
Oh! So this is DESTINY, huh? Iâve probably heard it on Spotify before, but I donât recognise it by sheer sound like I do HypMic. (Then again, the half-year off the airwaves probably really hurt I7, manâŠ)
Akudama 4
Say what you will about how bad Funi translations can getâŠtheyâre definitely entertaining!
Geesh, Doctor gets all the sexy shots, but Brawler gets all the ab shots. Can I get a sexy Courier shot
ââŠsheâs right.â â Thereâs a lot of dialogue here, soâŠuh, whoâs âsheâ in this case?
Whatâs a âbro froâ?
Wow, Brawler, talk about being punched into next TuesdayâŠ(partially joking)
Swindlerâs face, LOL. (I know sheâs an ordinary gal, but calling her âSwindlerâ is shorter to type.)
I remember reading around and people agree Swindler works at the Seal Centre.
The shark and bunnyâs shirts say things like âKanto/Kansaiâ, âearth, air/waterâ and âpollution/cleanâ during their montage.
âfeministâ â Uh, ex-squeeze me?! Feminism does not equal âladies firstâ or âgoing easy on ladiesâ. Update: I went and listenend to it and although one of my ears is mysteriously almost constantly plugged these days, Iâm fairly sure Doctor did not say âfeministâ (in katakana). Update 2: Then I listened to it again andâŠIâm not sure anymore.
LOL, Hoodlum hit the in-series camera. With his face.
Oh, vault = garage or storage. Right, how did I not know that?
Cat, nooooooooooooooooo! Donât die!
HypMic 5
After the two âdarkerâ divisions, it seems almost strange to not have a âdarkâ introduction about the seedy underbelly of alt. future JapanâŠ
Oh, my gosh. Thatâs Ichijiku on the phone.
The studio has the word âdropsâ on it.
Lemme guess: Neither hand!...Yup.
The only spoiler I know for this ep. is itâs a Halloween episode, and âRamuda ruins Halloweenâ. That quote is way too subjective to mean anything, thoughâŠ
âŠhmm, Gentaro doesnât say âshouseiâ in that sentence involving âthis humble bardâ (not that I heard, but one of my ears is mysteriously plugged after I stayed up late browsing Twitter on my phone â donât tell anyone that, though! Theyâre not meant to know!). Gentaro is not a humble bard (although that would translate âshouseiâ quite correctly in the Shakespearean), heâs an author.
LOL, that âding!â
Gentaro actually says âghostbustersâ in katakana, LOL.
I almost thought this Shinjuku man was DoppoâŠbut no, this Aoyama Cemetery exists. It has nice cherry blossoms.
The âdun dun dunâ soundtrack is great. It really sets the atmosphere.
Gentaro really is an idiotsâ minder, just as I used to characterise him. (Then the FP and M manga and developments regarding Ramuda being evil changed my mind.)
I-Is this just gonna be an episode of FP being scared and Ramuda yelling? Itâs fun for a bit, but when youâre stopping to analyse every few seconds, Ramudaâs voice is gonna get annoying eventuallyâŠ
Kurosu seems to be a cross between Jyushi and Doppo.
This epâŠmakes FP look money-crazy. Dice is only money-crazy when heâs brokeâŠbecause of course you would beâŠbut the others arenât.
That rock track that plays when FP hand out flyers is cool!
Are theyâŠeating squid?...Welp, squid jerky. Iâd say Iâm correct.
Oh, so theyâre all street photographers? Not just Tom?
I was wonderingâŠhow would the âtie to a different divisionâ occur in episode 5, considering episode 6 is where the plot really kicks in? Turns outâŠthey tie back to BB, which is not a thing I was expecting at all.
BB have a BB tabletâŠmakes sense, because I think Hypster have iPhone cases for each division.
Oh, theyâre planting the seeds of Ramudaâs ability here, so to speak. By knowing what Hypnosis Mics are capable of doing, you can see the building blocks of Rap Abilities as well.
Okonbanwa! The extra O is meant to make things formal, but only in front of nouns (sometimes itâs âgoâ, e.g. goshujin), so itâs Ramuda being overly formal to be cutesy and unconventional.
*lightbulb goes off in head* It makes sense that the group affiliated with illusions and randomness does the Halloween episode, actually.
âŠYargh! Of course all these onee-sans are FP stans!...*lightly touches temple, as if to get rid of a headache* I shouldâve known.
The new song is âShibuya Ghost Nightâ by Tokyo Health Club, Yuki âT-Grooveâ Takahashi and Yuma Hara.
*stops video before the darn airhorn sounds* Thank goodnessâŠhey, isnât this quote from Magical Girl Spec-Ops AsukaâŠ?
This episode is very seasonal, but doesnât really make sense outside of airing on Halloween. Câmon, couldnât you have given us a Sasara appearance instead of having Ramuda yell down the houseâŠ? I knew the FP episode was going to be either lighthearted with a dark undercurrent, like the BB ep (considering we havenât gotten to Ramuda dying yet), or full-on lighthearted, butâŠI somehow wonder if the staff had an empty spot labelled âFling Posse episodeâ due to COVID and went, âOkay, it airs on Halloween this year, letâs make it Halloween-inspiredââŠor something. Also, I feel Gentaro got the short end of the stick here.
Update: As for yakuwarigo, Ramuda trends towards the feminine side, which is not something I noticed until my groupwork partner pointed it out to me. The message in this episode has a âyoneâ, which proves that point even further. âDayo~nâ is a variant of the gender-neutral âyoâ ending. Meanwhile, I have game samples that prove Dice uses âzeâ like BB/MTC, while Gentaro uses âyoâ and desu/masu like Jakurai, so it was really Ramuda anyone wanted to pay attention to since his speech patterns are the most feminine-leaning, possibly due to his extensive hanging out with ladies. (I once read a Tofugu post on how non-binary people deal with language that said if you hang out with ladies a lot, you take on feminine yakuwarigo and if you hang out with guys a lot, you do the same in that direction, but I clearly remember Ramuda using âsaâ, which is a slightly male-leaning ending.)
Taiso Samurai 4
Thereâs something in the background which stops me from listening to it and one of my ears is blocked, but I gotta find out what Tackey was saying about the NHK Cup (the joke, I mean). Update: So I think itâs ninja/nukihara/kekkou, but I may have heard that wrong due to my blocked earâŠI should get someone to clean it out properly.
Hereâs the YoI monologue about competitions again. <- (neutral on it) Also, NHK is in English letters/romaji in the term âNHK Cupâ, but the âCupâ isnât (itâs in kanji).
Sekigahara had a huge historical battle.
Huh? This episodeâs called âSamurai Musume (daughter)â, soâŠwhere did âBattling Samuraiâ come from? Thatâs one of the previous episodes, right?
Selfies, before they were cool.
I was wondering if Leo actually calls Rei âRachelâ like he calls Jotaro âJoeââŠand he does. I just havenât paid much attention to the audio, thatâs all.
The Battle of Chibi? Never heard of it until now, but the Battle of Red Cliffs is the same thing.
Leo Naruto runsâŠLOL.
If Rei was in 4th grade in 2002âŠare we going to see the characters in the present in the end? She would be 28 in 2020.
I guess I shouldâve guessed from âhat trickâ, but a Bergkamp trap is related to soccer.
Thereâs a random Japanese-sounding track in the backgroundâŠdidnât expect that.
A cemeteryâŠon the day after Halloween.
âGrandmaâs placeâ = the barâŠOhhhhhhhhhh. I was wondering, didnât the grandma and Rei live together? Then it all came together.
Jim Beeam (sic), LOL.
I wonder, are Tackey and Ayu dating like he asks?
Gotta love a man in a suit! *chefâs kiss*
Yashahime 5
Whoâs this Tokotsu guy againâŠ? Also, the âjaâ in Jakotsumaru means âyoungâ.
Oh, Myoga. Itâs been a while.
Can there be 4 Perils when thereâs only 3 of themâŠ?
Well, it makes sense that a dog demon would have demon fleasâŠin a sense.
Why is âtrying to swallow up this world and turn it into a degenerate ageâ (or whatever Kirinmaruâs aim is) so vague? You could say the present is already an age of mass degeneracyâŠ
Maybe the Dream Butterfly took Morohaâs memoriesâŠ?
Wait, why is Myoga only allowed to drink Morohaâs blood when she puts on the rouge?
So this is an arhat. Also, arenât morals an Anglophone ideal imported into Japan and the rest of Asia? Thatâs what separates Towa from Setsuna.
Akudama 5
This drone definitely wonât come in handy at allâŠ(sarcastic)
Thereâs an Evangelion feel to these âmasksââŠ
That box is like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs! Itâs great!
I like how the kids jump to the potential fact (?) this is a Swindler trick.
You can see Courierâs bike in the background when the bunny says ââŠand I mean everything.â
*Knights of Sidonia music starts playing* Search! And! Destroy! *record scratch as music stops*
I think this little discussion between Courier and Swindler will go down in Akudama Drive history as one of my favourite moments because itâs the little conversations that count. AlsoâŠdoes Courier have a mechanical hand, or is that just me thinking weird thingsâŠ? Is that a glove?
Ooh, scars. Sexy. (On the Executioner Master, at least.)âŠNow I get why the guy wears that mouth covering.
HypMic 6
Halfway through the season alreadyâŠ? Yikes, how time flies. By the way, my assignmentâs come and gone so I donât need to focus on it anymore.
Hmm? Why did the subbers put âPrime Ministerâ when Ichijiku merely says âyesââŠ?
Wait, 1st question: how does one sign up for a rap battle? I donât think thatâs ever been answered. 2nd question (well, not a question): Dice is paying attention to Otome nowâŠ
Iâm fairly sure that red brick warehouse was just thatâŠas in the Red Brick Warehouse in Yokohama, which was also featured in Bungou Stray Dogs. Update: Oh, itâs (partially) a shopping mallâŠ? I didnât know that until now.
See, I told you theyâre (Tom, Iris and Rex) probably foreignersâŠ
That one shot of Jakurai? *chefâs kiss* Beautiful. Give me a million of âem. (Okay, Iâm kidding to some degree, but I canât help staring at it. Jakuraiâs just too prettyâŠ)
âTweet-like lyricsâ? Eh? When was Twitter a collective pessimist?
Oh, thatâs basically the scene from the drama track. Where the heck is Jakurai fishing thoughâŠ? I always imagined it to be at a river or a pier, not some concrete complex. Update: According to a user on Twitter, the fishing place is called âIchigaya Fishing Centreâ. It is, as you would expect, found in Shinjuku. Apparently, even Osomatsu-san featured the place...which would explain why it looks vaguely familiar to me.
Wow, I canât believe how upfront theyâre being about Ramuda breaking up TDD.
Ramuda thought in his deep voiceâŠI almost didnât recognise it for a second. It doesnât even sound like Shirai. It sounds more likeâŠHayami, in fact.
âF*** yeah!â - âŠand theyâre still going with the F bomb. Keep being you, subbers, keep being you.
That shot of Saburo in a dimly-lit room almost looks like the SR card in ARB, except in that one he has his headphones on (and might be outside, to my memory).
Oh, so the round thing really is Ichiroâs ring. Itâs got an âIâ on it too, i.e. the Roman numeral for one.
*Ichiro explains what happened to TDD from his and Samatokiâs side* - I donât think weâve ever seen the story from Ichiroâs or Samatokiâs perspective enough to know either thought this (or this way).
âJiro! Saburo! Letâs go!â - âŠand Tomâs just taking photos as they leave, LOL.
I didnât expect the TsudaKen guy to be back again, really.
Well, if this Google route is to be believed, âSadamezukaâs soulâ only lasts about 30 minutes by car crossing from one point to the other, hence Jiroâs remark.
Googling âToyotamaâ and âToyotama Lineâ gets youâŠGhost of Tsushima linksâŠ?
âŠhmm. Iâm not listening to it on a hugely loud volume, so I canât quite tell what the pun is, but I think the word for âmonkâ in this case is âbouzuâ. Then whatâs the word for âelectric dynamoââŠ? Update: The pun, according to Takahisa Maeyama, is Erekiteruteru Bouzu.
That ticking thing was really effective in terms of the songâŠbut sasuga HypMic. Things went ka-blammo again.
So weâre probably going to see BBâs first DRB round next epâŠor Matenrou doing another takedown similar to ep. 3. Or both. Both is good. (Or it could be the FP/M side of things, much like we got the BB/MTC side of things here.)
...Uh, shouldnât that be âdawnâ? The animeâs generally been very good about this (aside from the obvious typo in the BB logo), butâŠwelp, theyâve done it now.
Update: The LOVE you see Hifumi and Doppo near is this one.
Update 2: As for the yakuwarigo, itâŠturns out, to no oneâs surprise, it stays oddly consistent across all media, although individual treatment of the characters can differ depending on the author.
HGPC 4
Ooh, is this Element of Light?
Fate/Stay PreCure! Here we come!
Moriarty 4
Why is the âtoâ capitalised? (Is that even capitalised?)
Quinine.
I kind of knew the grapefruit and the heart condition and/or quinine would be relevant somehowâŠand boy howdy, was I right! I just didnât really know what it was going to do, thatâs all.
I thought the ED didnât match very well, but looking at the translated lyricsâŠnow it kind of makes sense.

Akudama 2
I think one or two of the reviews I read of this anime picked up the names of each episode are based on movies and it seems theyâre right. Namely, episode 1 is Se7en while episode 2 is Reservoir Dogs...so theyâre crime movies specifically.
Kanto, Hikari etc. are the names of certain shinkansen.
Playing with your own blood in front of a no violence sign and smoking in front of a no smoking signâŠLOL. So edgy and yet simultaneously so fun.
âŠ*blinks* Welp, that OP wasâŠan experience.
âŠhey, Funi are hypocritesâŠthey gave HypMic a language warning, but not this???
Come to think of it, this anime is already exactly how Iâd imagine the HypMic MTC episode to goâŠbut with more cyberpunk, of course.
âŠwhy is âare you gay?â an insultâŠ? I thought we were past this point years ago.
âŠwhatâs up with these puppets? The sharkâs shirt says âfoolâ on itâŠ
The rabbit and sharkâs shirts keep changing every time they spin. When they talk about poverty/rich, the rabbit shirts says âpoorâ and the sharkâs ârichâ (or something of the sort). When the shark talks about Kansai burning to the ground, his shirt says ânervousnessâ.
Wow, Hiroshima vers. 2âŠRabbit: peace/shark:war
Hoodlumâs just a sycophantâŠ
âŠooh, so if the girl and Hoodlum arenât part of the planâŠthey could f*** s*** up?
LOL, plasma shield.
âLilâ stickâ? Thatâs a jitte! A non-bladed weapon which is still plenty nasty by itself!
Ken the 390??? I knew UraShimaSakataSen were on this ED and I knew this was a rap ED because I heard it in AMQ before I was able to finish this ep, IIRC, but I didnât expect the guy from BATTLE BATTLE BATTLE....
Taiso 2
A-hah! I was right on the money! Tomoyo is an actress!
Oh, itâs senu. Thatâs an old-timey way of negating your verbs (itâs shinai now), hence âretires notâ.
I think theyâre hailing Minamino as the first winner in 45 years if I understood the newspaper article on the screen rightâŠ?
Does this mean Minamino will join Leo and Aragaki The OP shows him with them.
The AnimeLab translation of the title is âDuelling Samuraiâ, but the translation on the hardsubs is âRock-Bottom Samuraiâ. The word donzoko indicates the latter is correct.
I think Leo said âRei-chanâ, not âRachelâ. Itâs a bit hard to hear because heâs eating thoughâŠ
I think thereâs only one line where he doesnât talk like a ninja in his intro to Ayu and thatâs the line where he uses keigo instead.
I think the card says âacupuncturist Kawa????â (canât read the last character due to Britneyâs thumb), butâŠwelp, Britneyâs kinda disturbing in their (not sure what pronoun to use) own way. There also appears to be an address in Ikebukuro on the card.
I wouldnât be surprised if Leo learnt how to speak Japanese fluently from ninja movies â thatâs a pretty common anime trope, like in Tada-kunâs Rainbow Samurai case. âAlways make your heart rainbow!â and all that jazz.
âŠso thatâs what the card said - Kawamoto Orthopedic Clinic.
âMy shoulder wouldâŠâ
Seriously, this anime is just an excuse to look at Aragaki in different outfits (and also shirtless) and I love it, LOL. (Iâm such a simpleton.)
AhâŠsometimes, people ask me about the days when I used to learn piano and I bring up the fact there is such a thing as âoverpracticeâ. I thought gymnasts would know when they hit their limits in that regard, butâŠI guess they donât because theyâre so consumed in their passion, or they canât see what theyâre doing to themselves (because it occurs under the skin and doesnât ache)âŠ?
Minamino is basically YurioâŠLOL.
Thatâs a cute, laidback ED. Itâs called Yume? (yes, with the â?â) and itâs by Hatena, hence Leoâs shirt saying âHatenaâ.
Welp, I donât think anything supernatural will happen anymore, butâŠitâs still a fun anime. They toned down BB too, which should please a huge number of reviewers who found him obnoxious.
Yashahime 3
Hitokon? Short for âhito controlâ (hito = person)? Update: It seems the name was also kanji for âflying head rootâ.
ââŠputs one to sleep.â
ââŠfrom a place like that?â
Can a Dream Butterfly steal memories?
Moriarty 2
âColumâ (sic).
These CGI horses are gonna bug me, arenât theyâŠ?
There is this sentiment that people need to be âsavedâ from poverty, especially when it comes down to African and Asian people living in slums (these days). I get the same feeling from this.
Maou-jou 3
Free advertising for Maou-jouâs home magazine! LOL!
I was wondering why those things were called âShow the MaryââŠremember Mezo Shouji from Boku no Hero Academia? Same pun (the walls have ears and the doors have eyes, or something of the sort).
LOL, instead of yokudekimashita (literally, âyou did goodâ) itâs makura ni narimashita (âyou made [the book] into a pillowâ). The common sentence ending for verbs means itâs funnier in Japanese, I think.
âŠargh! I canât read all of Alazifâs info because of the hardsubs! UmmâŠâCurrent worry: Princessâ and âWorry of the past hundred years: Destroying the demon clanâ is in the box next to the logo. âPowerful magic techniques are recorded inside this book, so the demons feared it and sealed it away as a âforbidden grimoireâ.â/âCurrently, under the control of the princess, theyâve been bestowing magic and magic techniques to her, so they havenât been used for the purpose they were made for and theyâre wishing the princess would use them for not-so-stupid thingsâ (I donât know what pronoun to give Alazif, so I gave them 3rd person âthem)âŠah, someone translated the stuff for me! (That saves me a lot of time.) So Alazif is a âheâ, huh?
OHKO to Demon Cleric, LOL.
SANâŠ? Oh, âsanityâ?
Oh, Demon Clericâs ears are black goat ears. No wonder you canât see âem.
This sword is like Ex from Princess, âTis Time for Torture!
HypMic 4
From here until episode 6-ish, Iâll be paying extra attention to charactersâ role language. I normally do that, but I picked this anime for an assignment because I knew it had a lot of examplesâŠyes, you heard me right. An assignment! I should be happy, but Iâm wondering if my taste is going to get roasted by the normies or if Iâve gone too far with my unabashed loveâŠ
I was discussing with some of my peeps in a Discord server andâŠis it possible MTR will get an ED from here on out if you divide the episodes up for an almost equal amount for each division? Weâll have to wait and see.
âŠOof. Iâm sort of scared for this episode. Itâs gonna have swearing galoreâŠand yup, there it is, right out the gate.
Wait, why not translate wakagashira? It just means âyoung headâ or â2nd in commandâ.
âŠwell, at least they got some variation in their swearing this timeâŠ?
Hmm, normally the translation is ârabbit copâ or something toned down like that. They dialled it up to ârabbity-ass copâ. (Yakuwarigo: Samatoki = na, on the whole = very, very slang â as a former naval officer, you would expect Riou to speak formally, but he speaks as casually as almost everyone else (yamero etc.))
Iâve never seen anyone refer to Samatoki as âKashiraâ. *laser stares Rentei for guest VA roles*
(Yakuwarigo: Samatoki (?) = zo)
ââŠwhy donât you ask the cops to deal with it?â â Uh, Samatoki? Jyuto is the cop. (Well, a cop.)
I still have no idea why they subtitle the laughingâŠ
Wait, if thereâs a casinoâŠis Dice there?!
âŠyup, right on cue. I didnât think Tom and co. would be there too.
Oh, LOL. HypMic is a tourist trap anime = see those buns Tomâs eating? Theyâre chuukaman (Chinese buns). Makes sense in Chinatown.
It took me several watches to realise whoâd passed by, but itâsâŠMTC in formal clothes?! (You can see part of Jyutoâs face, just to confirm it.)
Why are they wearing glasses? Even Jyutoâs wearing different glasses to the usual, LOL.
I learnt how to do some of the casino stuff while trying to get a job as a gaming customer service assistant in a huge casino joint one time. In a sense, this brings me back to then. (Update: I mean, the sound of the roulette, the sight of the board, the chips and the like. Thatâs what takes me back.)
(Yakuwarigo: Dice slurs his words a lot, especially when yelling things along the lines of âPlease lend me moneyyyyyyyyyyyyy!â This is also true in the game.)
Dice seems to have jumped straight to âRiouâ, rather than âRiou-sanâ. Â
I wonder if anyone will ever elaborate on that incident where Dice and Riou met?
(Yakuwarigo: Samatoki speaks coarsely, but not outright swearing in the source languageâŠfor an example, he says kussotare when roped into being Jakuraiâs âfemale counterpartâ for the ARB Halloween event, but he doesnât do anything of the sort here.)
Even Ramuda uses âsanâ with Samatoki, most likely to emulate how Samatoki calls himself âoresamaâ (but with lower formality).
Ramuda-chin? Thatâs new.
Yakuwarigo: Gentaro spoke normally, just with desu/masu. Maybe the âperchanceâ was to make it blend in with his -de aru?
Uh-ohâŠRamudaâs favours always are things like âdress up for meâ and âhang out with meâ, if the game is any indication. (One of them happens to be how Ichiro was roped into being a sorta-Kirito for the ARB Halloween event.)
This CGIâŠitâs not the jankiest, but it is gonna bug me ever so slightly.
Iâve noticed a lot of people in the English-speaking fandom, when they watched the anime, took a shine to MTC (because they seem to embody the entire ârefuge in audacityâ thing theyâve picked up onâŠplus that one hamster lyric people got attached to). You can see them being all âcop/gangster husbandsâ here if thatâs your gig â itâs kind of my gig, but to be real HypMic is not a scene where I ship dudes. Iâm sorry, but I just like watching pretty boys kick butt.
What warranted the dramatic glasses drop (LOL anyway)
That whistleâŠLOL. Itâs like âLook at my boy fightâ and âRiouâs got some sweet fightinâ movesâ rolled up in one.
For some reason, when I saw the sign for the Organised Crime department, I heard the Student Council theme from Boueibu play in my head (Remember that harpsichord theme?) *shrugs* I dunno why that happened.
HmmâŠthey crossed out the subtitles using Swedish letters instead of strikethrough, huh? Didnât know that was a limitation.
(Yakuwarigo: Jyuto = dazo)
âWouldya look at that forlorn mug of his?â â Seeing a man taller than you (Riou is a good 190 or so cm, mind you, making him the tallest member of his division above Samatokiâs 180-something and Jyutoâs 170-something) making a sort of demented puppy-dog faceâŠLOL.
(Yakuwarigo: Jyuto elevated himself to kimasuyoâŠmaybe to win back Riouâs favour?)
(Yakuwarigo: The translation elevated Samatokiâs ânandaâ to âthe f***â. âNandaâ is not that bad â itâs casual, but doesnât imply swearing like âittaiâ is supposed to mean âthe hellâ.)
(Yakuwarigo: Jyuto doesnât finish when he says âore wa hanashi gaâ. Thatâs called an omission, plain as that may be.)
(Yakuwarigo: Taihendaze!...Maybe thatâs a bit far to call it âweâre f**kedââŠ? It could just be âweâre doomed!â or âweâve got trouble!â)
(Yakuwarigo: Jyuto uses desune. Heâs the most feminine of the trio by virtue of being the smallest height-wise and most polite due to his job, but he seems to bounce between casual and polite a lot.)
âŠwow, even the rap lyrics have the F bombâŠand this time, you can see the evidence.
Natsu no mushi = bugs in the summer. Not a perfect match, but it works. (Notably, things like Gentaroâs speech and rap lyrics donât play by the same yakuwarigo rules because you can play characters within it â e.g. the evil doctor Jakurai sometimes plays. Iâve noticed most of the songs use casual or whatever rhymes, even for someone like Doppo whoâs considered more polite than most.)
âŠDespite the swearingâŠthat song slaps, man! Thatâs great.
MTC seems to have more tragedy on average than other divisions. This is because FP and BB are quite light-hearted and mostly family-friendly with hidden depths, but MTR mostly has stalker stories. Update: Thatâs when theyâre focussing on MTR solo. FPâs currently could get pretty dark soon and a lot of the dark/tragic stuff is not actually going to make the anime because itâs in the drama tracks/manga.
My gosh, we got to see Nemu animated!
Okay, Iâm not well-versed in yakuza slang but kumicho = boss, so Samatoki would have to answer to a kumicho.
(Yakuwarigo: Notably, when Riou bows, he doesnât elevate his speech.)
(Yakuwarigo: Jyuto = desukane)
âŠand randomly, rock solo postcard memory away from the sunset. (LOL) (Also, I believe I befriended Zainou during my time on WordPress. This episode title really does mean things, in a certain sense.)
Ah, it did switch! Itâs justâŠuh, gone to an MTC version of itself (and it has the same name, âKizunaâ). So that means we wait another 6 episodes for MTR. On the other handâŠwhat will the final version be? A whole cast version? A different song? No song at all? *shrugs* Only the future can tell us these things. (Also, why is Jyuto so loudâŠ? Thatâs why Iâm not a bigger fan of him. Much like Ramudaâs minna genki?, his iconic quotes like âIn the building!â are so loud and silly-sounding, you just canât get them out of your head.)
The cityscape in the middle of the disc at the EDâs start seems to have changed. I would assume thatâs a Yokohama skyline.
Keiichi Nakagawa is the voice of RenteiâŠI should stop burning myself on guest VA appearances, this guyâs a rookie. This Nouzenkazura VA (Kenji Hamada) though is voiced by the guy who does Otegine in Touken Ranbu and isnât as much of a rookie as Renteiâs.
Notably, where BB do the âBB signâ (as it seems to be known), MTC do a finger gun. MTR have the wolf fang, butâŠwhat is FPâs, then? Update: Itâs a peace sign to the side to make an F.
Todayâs new music was âRed Zone (Donât Test da Master)â, by KLOOZ and DJ WATARAI.
*cringes at the airhorn* *briefly presses fingers to forehead, as if going to massage temples, but then removes them* The airhorn reminds me of crazy sport fans. Crazy anime fans are more civil than them, which is one reason why I donât follow sports on the regular.
Update: Oh! The pond owl cafe in episode 2! It means Ikebukuro!...Sort of. Fukurou rhymes with âbukuro and ike = pond.
Akudama 3
Hmm? Is it just me or is that T in the code the kanji for âbirdâ (tori)?
âItâs where I belong.â â I know my reason for pursuing Japanese is a purely selfish reason â so I can stay above others in the topics I think matter to me and pursue the endless natural high that comes from the thrill of translation (which may be all one reason or two, depending on how you look at it).
Oh, the bunny and shark again.
The bunnyâs shirt said âlifeâ at one point, I didnât understand the sharkâs though.
At one point, shark: Ka (from âKansaiâ), bunny: ken (authority).
At the end, shark: heaven, bunny: hell. These broadcasts look like NHK broadcasts at the end.
Most of these words are katakana, making them look foreign.
Kansai 300, 25-1.
âMove-you-s**t!â â ItâŠseems a bit out of character for Swindler to say the swear word there.
Taiso 3
That CGIâŠis not the greatest.
According to Moon Land, gymnastics operates on a deduction/addition system. You add points for difficulty, but deduct points for errors like how Minaminoâs feet are apart.
*sees montage* - Those CGI scenes really take out the budget, huh
Gymnastics moves are named after their creatorsâŠkinda like scientific names and finders.
There was a lot of commentary in Moon Land so Iâm not sure what the moves are called from memory (the dialogue always did that for me), but having the reactions speak for themselvesâŠI think the anime team has enough faith the reactions will convey everything. They did, by the way.
You can see the bone at the base of Minaminoâs neck, under the skinâŠitâs sort of scary.
The fact you couldnât see Jotaroâs eyes for a shot or twoâŠthat kind of unnerved me and built tension.
Oh! The men in black appear after the credits!

HypMic 7
I will never not laugh at the content advisory, haha.
I like Kazuha already. Too bad heâs probably evilâŠ
Oh, is it the day of the DRB in the series alreadyâŠ? Or maybe, because itâs the qualifiers, BB and MTCâs match is on a different day to FP and MTRâs.
Oh? Does Tom know Jakurai well enough to call him âJakurai-senseiâ? (<- middle ground between âJinguji-sensei/Senseiâ and âJakuraiâ) Also, Tom uses âoreâ.
Ooh, Iris is a motorbike rider, eh? Interesting. I thought they (<- not sure if Iris is a âsheâ or âheâ with a really weird name) were more of a Saburo-type and didnât bother with things like that, based on their appearance. Update: Someone on Yahoo Answers said based on Irisâs watashi, she is a woman.
Typo fixed! Good job, anime staff! Update: Iâm referring to ââŠdarkest hour is just before the downâ (sic).
âŠbukkorosu = âf***inâ slaughter âemâ. Itâs not wrongâŠitâs just the subbers really like to abuse the F word for MTC. But you knew that already if you got this farâŠright?
LOL, Ramuda wants to âscratch [Rexâs] backâ (figuratively) toâŠget SNS views? Hahaha.
This Studio Alita is probably a reference to Shinjuku Alta.
Yotsutsuji!!! That was the one big spoiler I got before watching the episode today and Iâm so happy I got to see him animated!
(One of) Irihatoma and Degarashi refer to Jakurai as âJakurai-senseiâ as well. Hmm, I never noticed. Update: Thatâs Degarashi, because Irihatoma speaks to Jakurai alone later this ep.
Thereâs 50% chance Iâm getting this wrong, but Iâm going to go out on a limb and say Kazuha is voiced by a veteran VAâŠone I already know about.
Doppo calls Kazuha by his first nameâŠThat upgrade means their relationship escalated quickly (or this is a quirk of HypMic in general, since I noticed most characters are on first name basis with each other). Also, itâs cute Doppo finally has someone in his corner. No other part of the franchise has one, to my memory. Update: It might actually be âKazuha-kunââŠbut Iâm still surprised though. Update 2: Itâs both, actually.
Iâve listened to the phrase âsome random guyâ several times from Hifumiâs mouth and all I can figure out is the âyatsuâ at the end. (Doesnât help my ears blocked themselves up again, although itâs less than it used to be.)
Harumi Wharf.
R? On a helicopter landing pad?
âŠuh oh. I was right when I thought Kazuha was going to be evil. Also, Doppler shift/effect. Update: âDopplerâ is clearly a pun on âDoppoâ.
Hmm? âHey, Doppoâ from âyaaââŠit doesnât have a name referred in there. Itâs a small but odd thing to do. (I remember a professional translator was complaining that people with intermediate Japanese were giving them flak for translating things âwrongâ, but what I do here is analysis for my future and edificiation. Iâm not here to knock down pro translatorsâ doors and demand a refund, because Iâm trying to go pro to atone for my sins as a scanlator.)
The soundtrackâs slightly sinister tone, plus the fact I figured the culprit well before Doppo did, makes me slightly scaredâŠfor MTR.
I realised they skimped on the budgetâŠthis âhot off the car chaseâ line seems more like an MTC line, doesnât itâŠ?...Yeah, itâs almost word for word for MTC in DRB+. Maybe the subbers rushed and used this translation (this link I put here) rather than their actual lyricsâŠ? I will have to get to the bottom of this. Update: Turns out the translation is slightly different, butâŠyes, there is reference to a car chase in the start of Shinjuku Style. (Sorry, I donât know every lyrics of every song off the top of my head.)
âŠwow, this got really Doppo-centric. Iâve never seen the leader relinquish their position when it comes to âleading into battleâ before. It just goes to show the staff really do pay attention to how popular Doppo is.
Note âDoppoâ means âwalk aloneâ, roughly speaking, hence the âsolitaryâ line.
This song is very, very faithful to its original lyrics, because I was trying to look at Hifumiâs âmixing paintâ line and it pretty much matches.
Hifumiâs âmy menâ, LOL.
Kazuha = âone leafâ, hence the âleavesâ in one of Jakuraiâs lines.
I cringe every time I hear screaming coming from this episode, yâknowâŠ?
âŠoh dear. MTCâs plot actually bled into MTRâs.
I already knew from browsing Twitter earlier today that Kizuna was going to become FPâs today, but hearing it is another matter entirely.
Kosuke Miyoshi is Kazuha. Apparently, this guy also voiced Mashirao Ojiro (the tail guy) from BnHA, but thatâs his only major roleâŠso I was right in that I knew him, but wrong in that he was, again, a relative rookie in comparison to most.
Apparently FPâs sign is a peace sign sideways to represent an F, butâŠitâs just a sideways peace sign to meâŠ
âŠhow is Diceâs bead ornament attached to him? Is it on his hair, on his ear, on the skin behind his earâŠ? I was trying to replicate his outfit and got stuck on how to represent it, so I ended up opting for trying (and failing) to do a small braid on the right side.
IWGP shows up this seasonâŠitâs the song with the âhoo!â noise BB perform in this episode.
LOL, âDead men tell no talesâ is a perfect saying for MTC.
Akudama 6
Is there a movie called âBrotherââŠ? Thereâs apparently one thatâs the plural of that, but not that itself.
If HypMic likes the F bomb, then Akudama like the S word.
I-Is it just me or is the choreography sped up at some points in this episodeâŠ? Itâs a bit disorienting to come back to.
I thought the kid was a robotâŠbut close enough.
Oh no! Why does the teacher always have to die for the student to become stronger???
Kairaku/shugi -> pleasure/doctrine (if I didnât somehow misunderstand the sharkâs kanji combo),
The part after the ED looks a little too longâŠkeep watching.
The Japanese says âLost Childrenâ, but the English says âThe City of Lost Childrenâ, probably referring to this French sci-fi film.
I7 s2 6
I like how Gaku is taking special offence to Yamatoâs comments about him being a playboy.
Re:vale-san. I never noticed until now.
âIâm already looking forward to it.â Thatâs how I would translate Tsumugiâs âIâm already excitedâ.
ââŠwho could possibly complain?â â I think Mitsuki might.
The pun in the MEZZO show is that tai (group/squad) sounds the same as tai (want to ~). Rabbinsta is obviously Instagram + Rabbit (Chat?).
Oh my gosh! Itâs the Yotsuba sister!
Mitsukiâs shopping trip OST is nice, man. This piano.
This episode has a really great sense of danger and foreboding for the future.
I7 s2 7
Perfection Gimmick. Never heard it in the anime before.
Even the ramen houseâs name is a play on âIdolish7â.
LOL, Yamato sure turned that comment around.
The sign talking about beer says something about coupons below it. (It went by too fast and my CR appâs kinda fiddly, so I canât really go backâŠ)
Kimi to Ai na Night (pun on Idolish7, aka âAiNanaâ, again).
Mitsuki, no one hates you! Youâre just imagining it all!
I7 s2 8
Momo hugely resembles Sasara, right down to the highlights on the hairâŠ
ââŠyouâre so handsomeâŠâ â Iâm dying on the inside here, people! *laps up the BL pandering with a derpy smile on my face*
Banri and Tsumugi havenât been focussed on latelyâŠtheyâre clearly doing something regarding Banriâs ties with Re:vale, but I canât quite figure out what that âsomethingâ is.
Why is there a basketball and a football in the back of the Takanashi office
Please donât run in heels, TsumugiâŠ
âI love Idolish7!â - Ah, despite my quibbles, Tsumugi is good after all.
âmaking oneâs best exertionsâ â Why do those words on the cup worry me a bitâŠ?
Isnât âIâm watching youâ a creepy statementâŠ?
Apparently Tamakiâs symbol is mp (mezzo pianissimo), hence Sougoâs words.
âŠmy gosh! Ayaâs foster father is Kujou?!
I7 s2 9
If I heard it right, Tennâs line was âI can be your idolâ, not âyour princeâ.
âOlder Izumiâ - âŠah, poor Mitsuki.
âDamn you, sexy beastâŠâ â LOL!
âŠaw, I think this is the first time my heart has been lightened by Tsunashiâs laugh. Heâs a good boy.
The chibisâŠIâm still trying to get used to themâŠ
As a song once said, âYou canât please everyone so you just gotta please yourself.â (Blah blah blah, something about garden partiesâŠ)
Takao what now???...okay, Takao Dayuu.
âŠYouâre lucky that wasnât Tenn doing Takao Dayuu. It wouldâve been very âGentaro does his courtesan voiceâ if it was.
Nagi doesnât overpronounce things as much in this season. ItâsâŠpleasant, actually. Give me more of that.
Nagiâs âOh my god!â was hilarious.
Taiso 5
Ra (ă) and ro (ă) look kinda similar in hiragana.
Even without the audio, I can guess the words were âyarubeki kotoâ (things you should do) -> shachihoko.
The texts are written in gyaru-moji. Gyaru-moji is basically indecipherable to anyone who doesnât know how it works â kind of like the common teen vernacular, to be honest (LOLâŠ?) â and so the subs actually kind of ruin the confusingness of it all, but they did slightly better when they went âURâ.
Movie shiritori! ButâŠhas it really been half a year since Leo started? I feel slightly robbed about that plotline with the Men in Black right nowâŠ(then again, HypMic is just as bad about important plotlines, if not worse, soâŠIâm going to be patient and not complain.)
July 5thâŠRei is a CancerâŠ?
TheyâreâŠfinally moving on this Men in Black plotline! I only complained two points ago! Thank you, staff, for listening to my complaints (âŠ?).
Moon Land finished recently, so I wonder if Iâll lose interest in this anime from here on outâŠ? There was a Pommel Horse Prince in that.
Moon Land taught me that gymnastics has a lot of skills named after their creators, much like the Aragaki previously. The score is out of 10 for both D (difficulty) and E (execution), meaning a 20 is the best you can do, but the judges can get really picky...
The word for âvaultâ literally means âleaping/jumping horseââŠmakes sense.
Some of these names are names Iâm familiar with from Moon Land alreadyâŠbut I never remember what the skills look like.
âŠwelp, Leo just proved he really is a ninja after all.
Dr Stoneâs s2 had its ED announced to be âKoe?â by Hatena and âYume?â here really makes a themeâŠdoes Hatena give all their song titles question marks on the end?
Taiso 6
Colour gangs? Like in IWGP?
Itâs nice to see theyâre (Jotaro and Rei) communicating properly for the first time in possibly this entire anime.
On the wall, that thing is an evacuation mapâŠof some sort.
âŠIâve always wondered: if a bird eats chicken, does that count as cannibalism?
This is like thw Makkachin incident all over again (in YoI).
ââŠthereâs no reason for you to grin and bear it.â
âŠLeo and Jotaro, both are so dense! Boys *shakes head*.
BB? More like ET (LOL)!
Maou-jou 5
âŠI didnât even notice the cast was all dudes bar the princess at this point.
Tatakau Onnatachi. It could mean âfighting womenâ or âfemale warriorsâ.
Iâm still vaguely pissed that Kirito is here under my noseâŠdarn Demon King!!!
One of the harpyâs recent worries was that she wanted to become friends with the princessâŠThatâs kinda cuteâŠ
Didnât Syalis already get the coffin that one time? Or did it get confiscated?
*eyes sparkle* CloudâŠIâd like to sleep on a cloudâŠ*dreamy look on face* Cloud.
This is basically Princess, âTis Time for Torture in reverse.
Is it âmake doâ or âmake dueââŠ?
I donât think I need to explain the joke where the harpy is happy.
Gendo pose!
I wonder if the bed or the sheets will talk to her (Syalis) someday?
Maou-jou 6
The New Gearboltâs quote is âguruguru dokkanâ, which is just a bunch of sound effects. It would translate to something like âwhir-whir-thudâ.
Underwear episodes are some of the worst episodes everâŠtheyâre so juvenileâŠI dropped at least one series based on the underwear episode alone.
Ah! The seal on the ice monsterâs shoulder! Too cute!
How can a mechanical princess mecha (âŠthing?) have worries?
LOL, never underestimate the hilarity of the teddy demons ganging up on the Demon King.
I like how the Japanese pointed out the demons only moved the princess.
HypMic 8
I thought the robberies were Kazuhaâs doingâŠ? Or is this a separate case?
Samatoki answering his phone with his feet upâŠLOL, thereâs just something funny about it. It shows heâs just so badass, he can get away with it.
Riouâs hacking (?) skills come to the fore again. (Or is that listening to enemy intel?)
Ooh, Iris is sassy. I love her already.
âŠer, Samatoki? Blowing cigarette smoke into Jyutoâs face is just rudeâŠ
ââŠdonât hang up your gloves.â â Considering Jyuto has his red glovesâŠLOL.
What the heck is that backing track when the 2nd car moved out? Thatâs a cool track.
Ah! Iris is a Saburo-typeâŠLOL, Saburoâs fake identity.
âa cop whoâs in with the yakuzaâ - Wow, way to diss your own teammate, Samatoki.
For a guy who was only just in the water, Riou doesnât even look wet.
â2 DIE 4â â Hmm? So did the anime staff know what Riouâs 2nd round song title was at the timeâŠ? Update: Judging by the name âRequiemâ dropped in the next episode, I would say yes.
ââŠf*** the policeâŠâ - Wow, way to diss your own teammate, Samatoki. X2
Hmm? In Riouâs rap bit near the end, he goes âmad warriorâ and that rhymes (in a very loose way of speaking) with âMad Triggerâ. The English didnât keep that.
I remember seeing a spoiler which said that line (the one about slaves)âŠbut seriously, Jyuto is such a âsexy revenge copâ (as someone once said â I think it might be Slug, or an anon to Slug) that literally nothing else seems to matter about him.
Why do they subtitle the laughing??? I still have no idea.
âSgt. Irumaâ? The guy just says âIruma-sanâ. Is he a sergant or some other rank? Update: Yes. (As in, he is a sergant.)
Iâve never actually seen Ramuda sleep in a bed before, come to think of it. Does he not have a bed?
I would assume Gentaro is goingâŠbut he said he wonât be going, then negated that and then negated it again. Unless the 2nd time was him admitting it was a lie the first timeâŠis he going or not???
âshinsetsu no humanâ â (Spoilers for later on/manga)âŠYes, thatâs actually what Ramuda says. Itâs as if Ramuda subtly admits, right there, he isnât human.
Nodo = throatâŠIf this were translated more literally, it would sound pretty clunky.
ââŠrappa no inochiâŠpaa!â â Yep, the subbers got the gist of the joke there.
Dice is basically a worm at this pointâŠHeâs squirming like one, anyway.
That ânumber of pips facing upâ thing has got to be foreshadowing for something, yâknow? Nothing in a story ever goes to waste. Also, itâs likely the dice are weighted or somethingâŠ
âŠyep, there you go.
That voice Gentaro used for âI despise liesâ was amusingâŠbecause itâs so different to his normal voice, and because Gentaro is a serial liar.
The 2nd songâŠwhich I already know is called âJACKPOTâ from browsing Twitter earlier todayâŠwas a bunch of fun.
Udagawacho.
HmmâŠemphasis on the candy. I wonder what that means? (<- already knows, I just want to keep it a secret from you, dear reader, if you donât know it too)
ANIME SHOP is so clearly a pun on Animate, including the colours, that I canât evenâŠLOL.
FPâs Kizuna sounds distinctly different to the othersâŠprobably because of Ramuda. Itâs mostly Ramuda carrying the tune there.
âLife is what you make it.â â Hmm, an interesting quote for sure.
HypMic 9
âŠwelp, they donât call it Fling Posse for nothinâ.
I didnât believe my ears, so I went and listened to it again. Sure enough, Ichiro calls Jakurai -san, not -sensei.
Ramudaâs normal voice! Things are getting serious~!
âHifumingâ? Is that a deliberate choice on the translatorsâ part? Or is it a mishearing?
âŠIâm laughing at how Samatoki called Ichiro a âhypocritical piece of s***â. I know the âs***â part is correct at minimum from the audio.
I believe Samatoki said -san, not -sama when he asked for an honorific. Hmm, interesting.
I knew this would get animated, butâŠI still canât believe Iâm watching it! AmazingâŠabsolutely amazing.
If youâre wonderingâŠyes, that long thing is her entire title and name. Itâs said the name âKadenokoujiâ is the longest Japanese surname in existence.
I remember reading a tweet earlier today that said somebody wanted âAltercation! Altercation! Altercation!â as a song titleâŠand now I LOL, because the subbers made Gentaro say the exact same word.
HmmâŠI only just noticed BB are the only ones with bags. They probably came last, but who took the othersâ bags into ChuokuâŠ? Update: Some of the others did have bags, I just never spotted them. For instance, Riou is carrying a large black rectangular bag, but Samatoki and Jyuto donât have any. Jakurai has the bag from his TDD days.
The 2nd DRB brackets got announced today. BB vs DH, MTR vs BAT, FP vs MTC, rolling out across Japan (and Japan only due to COVID) in 2021.
âWhat happened between you and him?â - I was going âwho?â in Cantonese (as I sometimes do), but turns out theyâre just referring to Samatoki.
This is exactly as it played out in the drama tracks and mangaâŠexactly what I was waiting for all this time! So good, dangit!
LOL, in the future, we will have camera drones working our concerts like they do in the DRBsâŠI think (?)
I wonder what Dice is thinking right now, seeing Otome on the screenâŠhmmâŠ
âŠgah! Airhorn! Airhorn to the ears! *tilts to side due to sound*
I still kind of remember Slugâs take on the final battleâŠâThe popo? More like the poopoo!â (or something like that). *sniggers*
The little barking bit after Jiroâs verse wasâŠkinda cute, actually.
âŠow, these are some burn-ass words. See? This is the power of the DRB!
âŠeh? Riouâs mic has his MC name on it. Donât think Iâve seen that in any other part of the series.
Hoh, Riou even made references to Saburoâs character songs.
You can see âHcâ on Samatokiâs mic tooâŠprobably another case of his MC name, but partially obscured by his hand.
Aw, âSamatoki no sabaku tokiâ is a good lyric. Why couldnât you try to keep that, instead of translating it literally to âjudgement day for Samatokiâ?
You can hear a thumping beat in the background when Samatoki prepares himself. That seems to be a similar way to how ARB treats this stuff.
âIâm THE Samatokiâ â âSamatoki-sama daâ.
I think it was really cool to show Samatoki handing the song over to Riou, but it also indicates thereâs a disjunct in the lyrics that would cause such a thing. From this, maybe Riou is MTCâs weak linkâŠ?
Skeletons with katanas! Is that not cool?!?
âŠhey, that joined words thing Ichiro doesâŠI would assume thatâs what Rhyme Strike looks like in the HypMic universe?
Notice Samatoki took the word âsignalâ from Ichiroâs part and put it into his own one.
âToday is a good day to die.â â *eyes bulge* OhâŠgosh. What a quote. Update: Someone theorised Ichijiku wrote these titles (the last 2), but someone else â like me â theorised this quote was what FP and M fans thought for this battle.
Akudama 7
âŠthatâs one twisted kid.
Never threaten to kill a kid who can regenerate far better than you, Hoodlum.
Brawler is still in the OPâŠitâs kind of saddening to see him now.
I noticed a certain character appears on the Executionersâ hands if you pause at the right moment in the OP. Itâs the first character in shori (management).
Bunny: set meal/Shark: roasted meat (yakiniku)
âŠThis sounds a heck of a lot like the genbaku dome (Hiroshima Peace Park).
Bunny and Sharkâs shirts together: Idiot -> Shark: Bone
Actually, this also reminds me of the Osaka Expo held in 1970. I loved writing about that event â it was just so fun to write about.
This anime is like Appare-Ranmanâs sequel, except without the racing and crazy racial stereotypes (although there are still crazy stereotypes).
âŠwhoa! This scene is going on the end of year list for sure. JustâŠhave to remember this scene, where all the children disappeared, exists.
âŠâThe City of Lost Childrenâ is an apt title for this episode.
(HypMic spoilers!) I wonder if theyâll reveal that Ramuda is a clone in whatâs left of the HypMic anime?
âŠoof, Doctorâs a filthy traitor!
Rule number 1 of fighting: never yell out âSmokescreen!â when the smokescreen is meant to cover you.
âŠLOL, dark censorship bar. Please wait for the Blu-Rays to see this scene uncensored.
What the heck?! The countdown went from 7 to 0 so fast!
Akudama 8
Black Rain, huh? *checks* Itâs a movie about a pair of New York policemen who have to save a Japanese gangster from his death.
âŠdonât jinx it, Swindler!
Your brother isnât on the moon, Sister. Itâs just your dreams on there.
Notice âNeo Lake Biwaâ actually has âReikuâ in its name, as opposed to, say, âmizuumiâ or âikeâ (the Japanese equivalent).
You can still see where Doctor stitched herself up.
What did Doctor âhold on toâ?
Way to monologue through the whole morality thing⊠(<- not as satisfied as they would like from this scene)
I wonder if the seal is electronically trackedâŠ
Tsubo = pot, vaseâŠ*thinks about drugs* (Not that pot.)
ââŠIâll make you into a real man.â â More like a eunuch, LOL. (partially sarcastic)
I recall from Sarazanmai that âpair lookâ is the term for âtwinsiesâ in Japanese.
Oh! Swindler kind of looks like the Executioner Boss now.
âŠI find it ironic that Swindler had long hair up until not too long ago.
Can to the eye! Ouch! Thatâs gotta be worse than a lightsaberâŠer, jitte to the eye!
This makes me wonderâŠwas Courier a rich kid onceâŠ?

Deca-Dence 4 | Maou-jou 2 | Fruits Basket 2 24 (49) | Magatsu 1 | IWGP 2 | Koi to Producer 11 - 12 (FINAL) | HypMic 3
Still chugging away at these summer and spring anime...sorry for the delay...(LOL, that rhymed without me meaning to.)
Also, Iâve been on the fence about whether to keep Golden Kamuy, since almost no one I read the reviews of follows it now and itâs a weekâs wait (when accounting for my AniList challenge)...so Iâm putting it on pause so I donât have to suffer later.
Deca-Dence 4
ââŠwho possesses the will to fight.â
âŠGreat. Kurenai is absolutely tethered to Kaburagi in a one-sided love. Just when I thought Natsume had an independent role model to look up to.
Maou-jou 2
Oh, this is from Shonen Sunday? Didnât know that until now.
âDemon Shroud: A demon with 99 clans. A cloth demon that puts on airs that it wonât be used before itâs finished off, due to its wonderful fabric. It is full of beautiful ghostly power, so its skin is smooth. However, the hero (who commonly uses things he finds in his surroundings) caught one, so now the princess has zeroed in on them. The princess doesnât need the hands or the head of these demons, so itâs a cycle of killing and taking revenge for them. Their fighting style is squeezing the life out of things.â
Apparently, the teddy is acceptable, LOL.
I like how the window stopped displaying text at one point.
I saw someone with a huge plait in the ED. The queen, maybe
I noticed the laughs dropped off significantly in comparison to last time, but itâs still good. I can flex my translation skills even if I canât laugh at one part.
Fruits Basket 2 24 (49)
âŠjumping to the 2nd-last episode in a season is pretty unprecendented, but Iâm going to watch this for the sake of Jonâs Creator ShowcaseâŠthen again, I need to finish this anime anyway, so itâs just cutting and changing the order for something I already know the outcomes of.
I used to lose myself in movies so much that I would lose all sense of who I was and would have to âregain the bearings of myselfâ, so to speak. I would have to reconstruct who I was, even though I technically hadnât âbeen brokenâ and I knew once I did that, it felt different. Like Iâd travelled through time and past me would never be the same as present me. Thatâs why I kind of get what Machi means.
Oh, I didnât listen to this OP muchâŠprobably because Iâm emphasising bingeing the spring and summer series I left behind and now that I can skip the ads on most of my anime, Iâm leaving behind the anime Iâll be slower on.
The manga was written when there werenât as many cell phones around, much less smartphones.
Rinâs on bad terms with everyoneâŠ
âŠif I remember the year of the dragon correctly, the last one was 2012, then the one before that is 2000âŠaround the turn of the millennium, huh? Froob is showing its age here, albeit unintentionally.
Now that Iâm closer to the Musketeersâ age, I can kind of empathise with their scenes a bit more.
âIf I always blame someone or something, Iâll never change.â â True. I realised Iâve been a bit too haughty lately (what with the HypMic anime going on and it being the first thing I could research extensively before the animeâs debut, my feelings are of course reaching fever pitch â combine that with continued COVID lockdown and you get me being all defensive of HypMic, for better or for worse) and so I may have acted like a jerk to someone, but since I only know them online and generally when I try to apologise to people online they donât see the things I apologise for as things in need of apology, I know the fault lies with me to rein myself in. I guess this means changing yourself is the only way to move forward.
I wonder how Hatori did his doctor training while avoiding hugs from girls who arenât SohmasâŠ?
Shigure vs. Gentaro (of HypMic, of course)âŠa writing competition! That would be fun.
âŠCrowâs note here makes sense (<- this is why I changed the order). Shigure was clearly asking a question there.
Come to think of it, HypMic and Froob have some similar characters. The stoic doctor is Hatori/Jakurai, the energetic smol one is Momiji/Ramuda, the teasing author is Shigure/GentaroâŠthat could make for some good fanfic material, really.
Magatsu 1
âŠthat title is an absolute killer, man. Anyways, Iâm here for the director, who also worked on Hataraku Maou-sama.
Is this a no guns thing, like IWGP is a no drugs thing?
âŠthis OP has lyrics?! I just hear strange squeaky noises, the kind you hear on some autotuned sogs to make them seem more ominous (I canât remember if thereâs a similar sound in G-Anthem of Y City or Yokohama Walker, but one of the MTC songs has similar noises).
I kinda guessed Leoâs package was the one Schaake and her partner were looking for. I was right.
That CGI (on the truck) isâŠkinda conspicuous.
These backgrounds are gorgeous.
âThe definition of in dubio contra reum is "in doubt, against the accused", meaning that, where there is doubt, the accused in a trial is not given the benefit of that doubt; they are assumed guilty.â
I wonder: how many protagonists start out as absolute wimps, unwilling to fight because they either know or donât know their own power? Itâs a pretty standard introduction for things with fights.
This battle track is nice. I listened to some of the Magatsu music under Masaru Yokoyamaâs name on Spotify and itâs pretty cool, but since itâs background music, thereâs not a lot of demand to listen to it (from me or anyone else, I donât think).
Why is there only a single shield if they know the enemy has heavy artillery?
âŠwhat the heck is a Zeits? Update: You can see a âZeitsâ (or however itâs spelt) in the credits list, suggesting Zeits is a character in this.
I knew this was my last premiere and this might have made or broken my entire watching schedule, but this is just a pretty down-to-earth premiere for a fantasy mobile game. While that cliffhanger compelled me to continue, I donât think itâs good enough to beat its competition in the long run.
IWGP 2
I know I said Magatsu was my last premiere, but just to be sure, Iâm watching this one.
This dance scene is beautifully orchestrated. The fact thereâs no music means you focus entirely on the motion.
The OP seems to trade more in colour and spectacle than actual âcool factorâ.
âŠwow, $2.90âŠ? Thatâs some cheap food.
You know I hate 1st person cam with a passion, right? SoâŠuhâŠ
EyyyyyyyyâŠthis is basically McDonaldâs, curry style.
I think I can almost see Ichiro of HypMic in how the G-Boys seem to mostly be reformed delinquents or actual delinquents.
âŠyeah, but whatâs your name, random messenger guy? Update: We find out later his name is Isogai.
âItâs because I suck at working and communicating.â â Yep, that me.
Ikebukuro licence plate. I still have no idea exactly what places get licence plates in Japan.
There are actually 2 characters before âHospitalâ, but no one confirms the reading of those charactersâŠwhich is probably why theyâre omitted.
âŠoh gosh, if this were a BL, Mitsuki and Masaru would be star-crossed loversâŠ*sigh*
Maybe itâs an unrelated 3rd party??? (In mysteries, you can never dismiss the work of a 3rd party.)
You can tell exactly which group is which based on the colours they wear. Makoto isnât affiliated with anyone, so heâs wearing black and had yellow earlier.
I think an anime is cowardly â or trying to save budget â if they deliberately choose an angle where they canât show the moment of impact clearly.
E! News, LOL.
Archangel, huh? So like a 2nd in command?
I think IWGP is moving in the direction of pushing the gangs against each other in the way Makoto describes in ep. 2.
As for what I think of it now, it's decent if you want something down-to-earth, but it seems to be missing some kind of "wow factor". Like it's afraid to commit to deeper characterisation, even though it has Makoto as the ostensible lead/viewpoint character.
Koi to Producer 11
âCognitive Science Associationâ - I thought it was the Cognitive Psychology AssociationâŠ? (Psychology is shinrigaku, science is kagaku.)
My boy (Lucien)âŠwhy must you be so evil??? Why do I keep falling for the tall but mysterious doctor??? (<- guilty as charged re: Jakurai)
âŠthatâs some funky seatbelts.
Whatâs that look in Victorâs eyesâŠ? Fondness, or something moreâŠ?
âŠah, so there is âScienceâ in the placeâs name. It was just being less loosely translated then.
Oh dang. Stuff escalated really fast, huh?
You actually set this in 2020, huh, staff? What happens ten years from now and people watch it, only to realise 2020 and 2030 arenât so different? Thatâs what happened when people had the Y2K bug.
That yellow sign on the side says âexitâ. Itâs not of any use.
Thatâs not a recoloured Kiro, is it? Itâs not Shaw, either (who I think we saw somewhere in the previous episodes)âŠso then who is it?
âŠgeesh, they even changed Helios to Ares. I guess it makes sense: Helios is the god of the sun, but Ares is the god of war.
Koi to Producer 12 (FINAL)
I read on the wiki Lucienâs power is copying powers. No wonder I couldnât get a solid handle on it!
So that Helios wasnât a mistake in the credits list in the previous episode???
Can we even hear what Helios says when Protag-chan is pulled away? Based on the lack of subs, probably no, but I wanted to ask anyway. (Or maybe he said âWatashiâ, since thatâs the pronoun Protag-chan goes by?)
âŠso that really is Kiro, huh?
MilitaryâŠwhat? When did Protag-chanâs father have a military squad???
LOL, at the very end you can see Gavin gesturing at Greenie (the pot plant, presumably a succulent). I logged on to the game 7 days straight (they have a Discord channel!) and got a Gavin R card with Greenie on it, which is how I know about it.
Anyways, that was a fun show. Not the best, but still fun.
HypMic 3
*snickers* Just look at my boi! Heâs so tall, he has to bend down for kids! (I donât mean that teasingly, I mean that endearingly, but lately Iâve been no good at expressing myselfâŠMust be the lockdown.)
If TsudaKen was a guest last time, then Degarashi and Irihatoma could be voiced by guest seiyuus tooâŠ
What is Jakurai, hmm? (A Transformer, LOL?...Iâm kidding, of course.)
All I knew about this episode going in was that it was an MTR episode. Maybe theyâll cover the stalker story from the mangaâŠ?
More literally, Hifumiâs sign says âwill you monopolise me until morning?â. This reminds me of the MTR truck one of the servers I was in was talking aboutâŠit looked like a giant billboard.
âThe most notable thing about Doppo is that he has no notable characteristics.ââŠand yet, heâs still one of the most popular characters of the series.
Suddenly, HypMic becomes a mysteryâŠ? Iâll take it!
Yup, âDoppomineâ is now confirmed as âDoppo-chinâ.
If all the mysteries Iâve consumed say one thing, itâs ânever forget there might be someone out there with a grudge against you willing to pin a crime on youââŠor alternatively, ânever forget there may be an unrelated 3rd party who would be willing to pin a crime on youâ.
These guys (Tom etc.) are just food critics, I swearâŠ(LOL)
Oddly enough(?), googling âShinjuku wafflesâ reveals there are several waffle places in ShinjukuâŠyou wouldnât expect so many waffles away from the home of waffles (probably Belgium), but there you go.
All the results on Shinjuku French toast point to this CafĂ© Aaliya (give or take an H at the end). Apparently, itâs so popular, people line up for it on weekdays.
Oh, so Tomâs a (street) photographerâŠwhat are Iris and Rex then?
The CGI on that car looks really bad, man. It may be dark to disguise it, but it still looks bad.
Jakuraiâs dad car strikes again!...Was it white? I donât remember, but Iâm pretty sure it was a lighter colour than this.
I was quite worried about how much swearing they were going to throw in the MTC episode, but thenâŠthey kicked it down a week. SoâŠstart worrying about next week, folks!
IâŠthought he would call Jyuto for some reason. (giggles) Iâve never seen Samatoki look so happy in relation to Jakurai, but maybe thatâs because heâs just chilling. (Or maybe he was meant to have a neutral but slightly happy face and they messed up the angle. I know I do that sometimes in fanart.)
Thereâs Jyuto, right on cueâŠLOL, that kick to the guts was so random it became epic!
UwabamiâŠwhat sort of snake is that, again? *checks* Giant snake. Thatâs no help. (That host could have a guest seiyuu too.)
Ooh, Iâm fairly sure thatâs an automatic car.
Jakurai went Jitsu wa kyoumi bukai desu ne?. âFascinatingâ isnât a wrong translation, but they did forget âIn factâŠâ or âReallyâŠâ from the start and possibly the â?â at the end (depending on interpretation). Update: It might actually be Jitsu ni, but same deal.
They struttinâ down Kabuki-cho all fancy-likeâŠDoppo sure does get a lot of punchlines, though.
This random guy at the club could also have a guest seiyuuâŠ
âŠwhatâs with the random Tahoma?
âŠoh, hey. If Hifumiâs jacket acts as a security blanket of sorts against women and he gave it to Doppo for extra warmth (presumably), thenâŠheâs trying to protect Doppo, even in his own sort of unique way.
Mimimi vs Hifumi? This is gonna get confusingâŠ(hey, did they actually make a flourish noise when Hifumi put on his jacket? Does the distinction need to be that clearâŠ?)
âŠsee, never forget the presence of an unrelated 3rd party.Wait, so we have motiveâŠwhatâs the relationship of Mimimi and the dude she killed? Who is that dude? Update: We find out later.
Notice Mimimi says âHifumi-kunâ â sheâs still on an outside layer compared to Doppo, who just uses Hifumiâs name. Also, I noticed Mimimi called herself Hifumiâs âonnaâ â âwomanâ â explicitly, as if she belonged to him. The subs reflect that, but it seems to have less meaning in English because they outright translated it as such.
Well, they got to demonstrate Doppoâs snapping. Iâm more than happy with just that. Also, Hifumi calls Doppo with a -kun here.
LOL, this song is gonna be known as âcatchyâ, ainât it? Anything with an easy-to-sing-along chorus like ânanananaâ is. Update: Or maybe not even a chorus, itâs just lyrics.
HmmâŠI noticed the âuse Mr with meâ line isnât actually reflected in the subs, but the lyrics are so fast, I donât know how they are reflected.
Did you notice the da in the lyrics in romaji?
âŠand s*** goes ka-blooey, as youâve come to expect by now.
Mimimi-kun
Oh, so the background from Hypnosis Mics can get caught in photos? I never thought of that.
Itâs almost as if theyâre nodding at the Doppo fans through the 4th wall regarding his appeal.
It seems theyâre not switching out this Buster Bros track, which isâŠokay, but I was hoping for an MTR ED. (Tofubeats was on this track IIRC and the anime website didnât list a future ED, so thatâs why Iâm okay with it.)
âŠOkay, so Irihatoma is Mutsumi Iwanaka, whoâs a rookie in the seiyuu world. *goes to consult Anime News Network*
Oh! Mimimi Hibakari! I get it! (It means âme, me, me all dayâ when written differently to her name.)
Uwabami was Shugo Nakamura and Degarashi was Mitsuaki Hoshino. Iâve never heard of these guys â except for Nakamuraâs role as Teru in Idolm@ster Side M â so itâs interesting they contrasted TsudaKen with themâŠeh? Heilong? Whossat? (Probably the guy whoseâŠpartsâŠalmost got crushed by Jakurai with a billiards cue.) This Hiroya Eto is even more underground than those guys.
A-hah! Todayâs new song is âWELCOME Uâ (thatâs how itâs spelt, donât diss me for it!) by Kohei from SIMONSAYZ.
Update: I thought that kid at the beginning was Yotsutsuji, so it scared me for a second.

Maou-jou 1 | Munou na Nana 1 | Grace of the Gods 1 | IWGP 1 | Akudama 1 | Crusade 1 | JJK 1 | HypMic 2 (also brief thoughts on the dog and cat TV short because I had them)
Maou-jou 1
I sampled this manga with whatâs called a âViz samplerâ. I only ever seem to find those at libraries, so Iâd assume only they and bookstores can get those.
âŠTwilight looks like Maou Sadao (Hataraku Maou-sama!).
âDawnerâ??? I can read katakana, ya idjits. His name is Akatsuki. Update: The translator mustâve gone, âDawn is a girlâs name. Letâs tack on an -er so it looks like a guyâs name.â
Aw, Hiro Shimono is Akatsuki. If it were Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, we couldâve gotten a Kirito joke out of it.
Oh! ćż«ç (Kaimin) = good rest, literally âhappy sleepâ. Hence this is the nation of Goodreste. I see.
The lightning effect is soooooooooo cool! *eyes glitter at the particle effects*
Iâm gonna die from cuteness from all the teddies and seals!
The little fanfare is so cute and the yokudekimashita reminds me of my days playing the arcade game Bomberman (which had a flower sticker much like this one). I wanna see this get a dub and succeed on all its merits! Itâs basically my baby alreadyâŠbar the fact it took a bit to work up to the first good bit of comedy.
The teddy demons are called Debiakuma, a pun on kuma (bear), devil and akuma (devil). LesseeâŠAfter âlesser demonâ, thereâs more textâŠâFluffy bears that can be also used as pets. They give in easily to temptation. A lot of them live in the demon castle, so the princess likes to gather their fur, dye it and spin nice cotton out of it. Warning: A lot of them will either run away or call you their friend./Occasionally act as friends for the princess.â
LOL, I recognised that voice of the Scissors guy straight awayâŠalthough I didnât know who it belonged to. Thatâs Suwabe. (It doesnât sound like Suwabe, I wouldâve thought it to be Takuma Terashima or something.)
Aw, the Japanese version is more boring this time. Itâs just Scissor Magician (in the singular for both).
*hears Scissors Demon going -ageruwaâ, which is a feminine sentence endingâŠthatâs Suwabe trying to (voice) act effeminate???!!!
These trumpet sounds never get old.
LOL, Siberian huskies dressed as RussiansâŠ
Okay, my turn again: Hari means needle, toge means thorn. Next to âHis stomach is softâ, part of the subs are cut off due to Funimationâs hardsubs, but I can read âhe is proud of his defenceâ on the 2nd line, âis the type to not refuse when relied onâ on the 2nd-last line and âhis favourite food is strange bird chawanmushiâ on the last line.
I love how parts of the castle are upside down for no reason at all except to look coolâŠarchitects must hate that, though.
I hadnât heard of âseesaw battlesâ until now. but the metaphor does make sense...kind of.
What about changing the mattress? Update: She does do thatâŠkind of.
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Kirito was under my nose all along! Damn Demon Kinggggggggggggggggggg!
Kamina glasses on one of the background trees! Cute tapir! Ahhhhhhhh, itâs so cuteeeeeeee!
Anyways, thatâs a fun show. Not as fun as HypMic, but still fun after it gains momentum.
Munou na Nana 1
I remember seeing spoilers for a twist at the endâŠletâs hope I donât anticipate it. That would kill the entire anime for me.
The message actually says something about how the island is a nest for enemies of humanity.
Thereâs the ice narcissist I saw in the promo stuff, right on cue. Iâve never heard of his voice actor Hiromichi Tezuka before, although he does sound like Hiroshi Kamiya or someone much better.
Why do I get the feeling once the title character arrives, even Nanao will get powersâŠ? Or maybe Nana is the catalyst for Nanaoâs powers awakening or something? (Just realised having a Nana and a Nanao together in the same anime is confusingâŠ)
Subbers spelt ânoblesse obligeâ wrong, unless it was deliberately done as such.
I predicted the âduke it outâ line.
Thereâs a menu on the wall of the restaurant.
Maybe Nanaoâs âtalentâ is his leadership stat or something?
Or maybe even Nanao is an enemy of humanity and doesnât know it? (Sorry, speculation going into overdriveâŠthat usually happens with superpower works like this for me, because I like to analyse them.)
Maybe Nanao can see the future, like the protag from Koi to Producer?
Technically, shouldnât ice be weak against fireâŠ? Or am I too used to the Pokemon system?
Called it! Nanao has a hidden power! (That reminds me: I still donât know what Lucienâs (from Koi to Producerâs) power really is.)
Vigilantes is really good at exploring how people can expand on their own powers.
âŠwow, I heard rumours that the main character was going to die, but Iâd pegged Nana to die, not Nanao.
Onodera is clearly importantâŠmaybe he was the one with the wind powers? Or was Nana lying about that?
âŠdude, the red eyes are kinda obvious that Nana is evil in some way, or at least really devious.
Grace of the Gods 1
All I really know of this is that itâs got slimes and itâs an isekai/SoL hybridâŠThatâs it.
âŠI am not, I repeat NOT, on board for a harem centred around an 11 year old!
Ryoma speaks with an unnatural amount of starts and stops, hence the caveman speak.
Whatâs Jilâs role in the partyâŠ?
Why would you even need to know 4 high-level skills? Isnât it better to know all of them?
LOL, I knew the isekaid guy was meant to have a hard life so he could start over with slimes, butâŠstick Doppo in this and itâs basically the same thing. At least Doppo tries to resist his bosses behind their backs, this guy just did the whole gaman thing and look where that got him!
If he worked for a black company with no overtime and so forth, how did he know about a recent anime trend, eh??? Sounds suspect. Update: Unless he was thinking about 90s isekai, which still involved less reincarnation than this.
I noticed the gods have senbei (the rice crackers with the seaweed). Western-looking gods probably shouldnât have senbei, unlessâŠthey did that to make Ryoma feel more at home?
Seriously, how does a guy with no overtime still have time for online games? Even if he were getting just ads for them, he probably wouldnât have paid enough attention to be able to figure out what the cliches are, right? Either that, or the Dragon Quest system is older than I think it is.
Slimes donât have pawsâŠor hands or other appendagesâŠto giveâŠ
âŠIâm not sure what to think there. Am I meant to think the slimes are cute? Am I meant to think the catgirls/animal girls are cute? The answer to those questions is ânoâ, soâŠeh.
IWGP 1
Basically, I chose this for associations with HypMic.
âŠthe best first impression involves a CGI car. Of course. <- (sarcastic)
Given HypMic, I almost expected a rap battleâŠnahhhhâŠRap battles donât look so cool outside HypMic, man.
The owl is a pun. Fukurou (owl) matches âbukuro (bag, which is the 2nd character in âIkebukuroâ). Thereâs also an owl statue used as a meeting spot, much like Hachiko in ShibuyaâŠ(I learnt a bunch of things about the division territory through HypMic. Let me show offâŠ)
I think the character designer for this anime also did Joker GameâŠthatâs throwing me off a little. Also, they had a prime opportunity to use a Buster Bros song, so Iâm still a bit miffed about that â this OPâs kinda standard. Update: The character designer is Junichiro Taniguchi â my insinct was wrong on him. He did Touken Ranbu Hanamaruâs character designs.
âSmoking killsâ â Yuuuuuuuup. Thatâs true.
Why do I get the feeling all the male otaku will wanna bang Makotoâs mother (to put it lightly)âŠ?
Curiously, the one who hates drugs in HypMic is Jyuto, whoâs not from Ikebukuro Division at all. HmmâŠ
Yokoyamaâs voice sounds familiarâŠbut Iâm not sure why. Update: If I had to guess, Iâd say heâs Saito Soma or someone who sounds similar, so maybe Takuma Terashima, Daisuke Ono or something like that. Update 2: Takahiro Sakurai. See? I knew I knew that voice.
âBig Reiâ (âRei-niiâ). Thatâs different from Ichi-nii (what Saburo calls Ichiro) and could also be goroawase for 02.
Uni of Tokyo is the most prestigious uni in Japan. It has quite the reputation.
âŠis it just me, or does Makoto have a piercing in his left ear? IWGP also happens to happily work with my existing character, although said character has a piercing in his right ear.
Zero One kinda looks like Uta (Tokyo Ghoul), LOL.
âŠand of course the girl has to rely on the dude. *sigh* Welp, we can throw drugs off the list for âthings that count as TV-MA to Funimationâ â IWGP is rated M (not 15+ explicitly, but thatâs what it stands for normally) in my region.
This ED songâŠthatâs the sort of song I was expecting from HypMic, Akudama or this.
Seems both Makoto and Takashi have earringsâŠmaybe in both ears? Takashiâs are yellow, I could confirm that much.
âŠthis is decent, but putting it up against its competitors is a bit harsh.
Crusade 1 (cont. from sneak peek - itâs in the title here because this is where itâs completed)
Turns out that preview was most of the episodeâŠlike â14 of 24 minutesâ long.
Wait, how did Alice fall forward and end up in the princess carry pose? I remember having trouble with that when a character in a story of mine had the same problem.
âŠIska-niiâŠ(?)
That opera house looks pretty darn modern to meâŠ
âŠehâŠthat was middling. Nothing any olâ adaption of Romeo and Juliet couldnât do, bar the CGI for the magic fight in the middle. (There was a fluffy griffin thing in the middle there, though.)
Akudama 1
Ume + Kimura and a cool urban aesthetic. Letâs go!
This is kinda Tron-like, eh?
Ooh, now itâs more like Cop Craft.
Kimura seems to use his gruffer voice more than his Ichiro voice, but Ume is actually worse on that fron with his ordinary voiceâŠWelp, at least his ordinary voice sounds like it fits right in with the Courier. I almost expect an Oceanâs Eleven thing (or Now You See Me, since Iâve actually watched that) from this. Update: Turns out Kimura is the pompadour guy, not the fighter.
You can tell Ordinary Person is an okay person because she keeps saving cats. A bit clichĂ©, but itâll do.
OhhhhhhâŠI can see where this plotline is going. Ordinary Person pretends to be Swindler to get herself out of this mess, but then she keeps getting involved with the Akudama. Itâs a typical plot for a typical gal, common to insert a viewpoint character in series that require one, or a magical girl ally.
Wow, those missiles look like a**.
LOL, Hoodlumâs sentence is kinda measly in comparison to most of them. Plus, when he yelled, that sounded more accurate to Ichiro than Fighter was, soâŠyeah, sorry I messed up.
âŠOrdinary Person has some real bullseyeâŠuh, eyes.
This could be a top contenderâŠaside from the CGI, which does look a bit funky. Iâm getting a death game vibe here, but I donât know if thatâs really the case. Also, itâs a lot of fun, but the possible intolerable thing here is Ordinary Personâs screaming â the pretense she has to keep up seems like itâll fit right in though.
JJK 1
I read the manga once, dropped it and then read it again and didnât realise why I dropped it.
Fushiguro has long eyelashes, tbh. Itadori comments on that at one point, I think.
Oh, it was a fish (carp) in the manga. I couldnât figure out what the Japanese equivalent was just from the Kokkuri board.
This track club teacher is a bit of a freak, honestly. Meddling in kidsâ affairs is probably illegal to some extent.
Itadori is known as âtigerâ because the kanji for âtigerâ is in the surname. Update: Also, the Czech dude Mirko was called âthe Croatian tigerâ, if a tweet I read is any indication.
I like how thereâs more comedy in this one. They show the world records, so you have standards to compare Itadori against.
This is an almost beat-for-beat adaption, bar the slight comedy of the records being added (and not explaning who Mirko is). The contrast makes this better.
âPeople really can die.â â Thatâs summoning some real energy of âPeople die when they are killed.â
(Brief thoughts on the dog and cat short: I enjoyed that more than I thought I would. The picture of a realistic cat â someoneâs actual photo of their cat?- that serves as a punchline never gets old and in fact, sometimes contributes to the humour.)
HypMic 2
LOL, TV-MA warning strikes again.
âKore wa prologue/Hajimete no ippo/Fumidasanai yatsu ni wa/???? shinpo.â â The translation is really good for the bits I can readâŠthe problem is I canât read the bottom left corner. Update: The part in the bottom left is nai...Thatâs it.
âŠuh, even people from around the world can read 24 hour time??? You donât need subs to read Arabic numerals???
âŠcouldnât you have just told Ichiro verbally, SaburoâŠ? Update: Come to think of it, kids these days are more on their phones than ever, so it makes sense but also kind of doesnât.
You donât really need subs for laughter eitherâŠ
Iâd never heard of âpulling rankâ beforeâŠhmm: âto use one's high position in a society, organization, group, etc., to order someone to do something or to get special treatment or privileges.â
âŠand here comes the F word here to mess with us again. Japanese nastiness is conveyed using words that might be considered âsoftâ in English, hence the sudden jump to use the F word a bunch, but the subbers could use some variety in their swearing. I mean, âdips**tâ worked where it did because subbers made Samatoki go overboard with the F word, butâŠyou could stand to use that more, maybe(?)
I like how even the Tenderloins guy rhymes where heâs meant to. Itâs the prelude to a battle, after all. (He kinda looks like Kotaro from Zombieland Saga.)
âŠI freaked out for a second. I swore I saw a similar-looking restaurant (udon shop, located on the left of one of the shots) while in Japan. Also, we finally get to see Ichiroâs reputation at work.
âŠI still have no idea what a âsteeloâ is after all this time, but I didnât realise I was staring at a part of Ore ga Ichiro until I saw it in context. Also, it was kinda derpy â but still really in character â for Ichiro to run to his destination with his arms up like the Glico man in Osaka (except he had his head down).
I get a weird feeling the subbers may have used the wiki translation because Iâm using it as a reference and the language seems oddly similar for the most partâŠ
The kick Ichiro does seems like it references the OP.
Notice the location is Nishiguchi KouenâŠthe West Gate Park. *raises eyebrows at the IWGP anime*
âŠoh! It occurred to me that the sign the BB do with their hands isâŠwell, a lowercase B. (LOL, if you read my previous line funny, it rhymes.)
Gentaro doing the peace sign to his chestâŠthat was random the first time, because it doesnât seem in character, but then it does for Dice and possibly Ramuda, so Gentaro probably just chose to go along with it (âto add to his image as a rapper,â maybeâŠ?).
Oh, Saburo has airpods inâŠthose arenât good for blocking sound, are theyâŠ?
Notice the owl on theâŠuh, cafĂ©(?)âŠIchiro goes to.
That one âholy shit!â made me laugh like a madman. Where it came from, I donât know, but it was so random I had to laugh at it.
This makes me wonderâŠif you use a mic thatâs different to your personal mic, does it produce the same speakers? No oneâs ever addressed that before (much like how no one questions if magical girls always need the same transformation device â I wanted to make a plot on that someday, but I canât seem to find a comprehensible way to pull it offâŠLOL, that reminds me, I even had a HypMic version of that featuring Samatoki at one point, but it probably makes even less sense than the standard one because it activates via physical contact. Itâs notable â in my head â for Nemuâs version of the âpowerâ being âSamatoki canât swear, no matter how hard he triesâ).
Iâm pretty sure that round thing wasnât part of Ichiroâs rings, ever. (âŠUnless that was the head of his spoon or something.)
âŠMicrowave? (referring to the shot inside the hospital, which seems to be based off ARB)
The series normally transitions from BB -> MTC -> FP -> MTR, so it was interesting to see that shuffled up. Update: Thatâs if it has to have an order, but notably ARB breaks this standard a lot by assigning colours to each solo and then arranging interactions based on not repeating those colours (aside from the Sky High Tower event). With 4 things there are 4! = 24 possible combinations and 6! = 720 possible combinations if you count DH and BAT, so as we move forward with those 2 divisions...prepare for more shuffling.
âŠis Jiro gonna steal a ball? I thought it was just bikes anime characters stole. (LOL)
The mic changes the background, too, huh? Never expected that from more than the speakers.
âŠand of course, s*** explodes and the day is saved once again....by the Buster Bros!!! (LOL, but also *sigh*)
Hmm, so this animeâs real plotline probably involves this trio: Rex, Tom and Iris. Theyâre probably foreign in some way, judging by Tom and Rex. Maybe theyâre aligned with a foreign government or something? Update: If you look at the credits, their full names seem to be Tom Whisper Weathercock, Iris Innocent Traiter (sic) (LOL) andâŠTaroumaru RexâŠ? (romanisations confirmed for all katakana)
Sadamezuka was voiced by the ubiquitous Kenjiro Tsuda.
It seems Cola Bintarou (aka Subaru Kimura) was on the case again today. He wrote the new song for BB, called RUN THIS CITY, along with Gesshoku Kaigi.
Of course, Iâm going to keep this anime on my list...Iâm just a bit worried about myself going forward, because I realised my ego got a bit inflated trying to defend the series from haters. Iâve never had a series where Iâve been a fan from the beginning that wasnât already a known quantity for a while (Muhyo and Rojiâs, Furuba). With Boueibu, I was discovering things alongside other people (or even later in a lot of cases) since it was anime-original.
