It’s fine if you can’t read the katakana, but Gavin’s name is Haku in Japanese, so it throws out the immersion somewhat…also, I know I shouldn’t be complaining – I’m the target audience here – but do these guys look kinda similar or what…? (partially kidding)

High school sweethearts, huh? “Childhood friends” is my favourite angle of a romantic relationship, but it gets so overused by harems it comes around to being boring…!

Okay, in order, it seems to be hexadecimals, Javascript (you can tell from the “const”), some kind of profiles which are apparently for human lab rats (which seem to have some kind of nonsense filler text), a DNA model and DNA bases (ACGT).

The text on the screen says something along the lines of this being an official broadcast of this man’s arrest and this man was a genetic researcher. Obviously, if I wanted to put more attention into what it meant, I would, but I won’t sweat the details this time (because it doesn’t seem to impact the plot).

The guy’s name is Minor because minor key (geddit?)…that’s my guess.

I started playing the game due to this anime, if you didn’t know, and I unlocked an expert in ch. 2. I thought he was Minor, but turns out his name is Spine (an older man).

The diary, true to form, contains details about either one case or several cases, two involving children. The bottom of the 1st page says “if it’s fake, I’ll laugh”.

Hey, I once told Crunchyroll I wanted an anime about hacking (so is this a dream come true? I reveal all in the next sentence!). Hackers don’t congregate like this…they’d be too conspicuous, even with the secret hideout!

The code in the top left appears to be…C? I think? (Note they declare “unsigned int”.)

Kiro sometimes reminds me of Masayoshi (SamFlam)…it puts a derpy smile on my face.

Kosame with his hair down…is rare. Not exactly attractive because we have to care about the racers rather than lust after them (and the artstyle actually prevents me from doing so, because it’s deliberately quite cartoony), but it’s rare.

Appare is surprisingly childish…that’s what makes him more than a Sheldon Cooper, I think.

The spelling of the place is actually “Ely”, if Google-sensei is any indication. C’mon, subbers! You’re American (most likely)! Can’t you put in the legwork (or the Google-fu) to discover what place in Nevada this is?!

It’s convenient the prarie dog didn’t appear when Hototo (old) had his revenge spree.

I noticed there’s a bit of a mark under Kosame’s left eye…it suggests that he’s been crying (or maybe it shows tiredness from the race…?), but it’s not that noticeable.

So that’s the real Gil…and tose were his henchmen that threatened to hang everyone bar Kosame. Got it.

“Daisuke-sama” isn’t “Lord Daisuke”, it would be “Sir Daisuke”, I think…but “lord” has a proper translation in Japanese.

The truck has a Shinagawa licence plate. Anime really does like Shinagawa, huh? (Based on ID: INVADED and this.)

I think it’ll be interesting to see Kambe handle this without HEUSC.

The board for Sanchome (which is equivalent to a suburb…or a county, I guess?) has posters saying stuff like “take your dog poop home” and “let’s protect the environment!” (technically, it says “let’s protect the region/area!”, but that doesn’t translate right. There’s even a flea market. Still, those posters don’t have any big hints…not that I know of so far.

I kind of forgot that dude was the gardener for Kambe’s house…er, mansion.

I noticed a poster in the kouban says haru (spring) on it. That’s probably the same one that Haru’s name is signified by, assuming that’s not in combo with another character or few.

Ahh…he doesn’t like natto. So that’s the problem. Daisuke is childish (like Appare)…Note I don’t like natto either, but I wouldn’t run away from home (or similar) because I was fed natto.

I noticed Kambe uses shinseki (which doesn’t refer to close family). “Relative” is a correct translation of that word, I just wanted to check that word was the right one for the context.

There’s a green tea bottle by the sink…I don’t think I’d mistake that shade of green for anything else.

LOL, I didn’t think we’d actually get to see Kambe with his hair “down”, so to speak. It’s…an interesting look, for sure.

The flag seems to be based on Cameroon’s (which is in Africa, not America) and the “Arita Kinen” seems to refer to Arima Kinen, meaning this episode is set around Christmas-ish. Credit goes to Kambe Zaibatsu on this show.

It hasn't been that long since they started living together, has it?

Even before then, he knew she had been slowly been integrating herself in his life- be it through meetings, through their bantering, and even navigating through the whole Evol mess.

This outcome would eventually come, right? It only made sense so.

And yet, seeing her so blissfully unaware- at peace while she snuggled onto his pillow still gives his heart a skip.

How is it she had became the most important thing in his life? Scoffing lightheartedly, he stoop down and gave her a featherly light kiss on her forehead.

He really became a softhearted mess when it came to her, didn't he?

“I’m sorry,” she whispered, voice thick with emotion as the lump in her throat felt bigger than ever before, “I’m… a little overwhelmed.”

Though he couldn’t see it with how the delicate silk brushed against her eyelids, her eyes were squeezed tightly shut behind the makeshift blindfold. And she couldn’t see it with how her vision was obscured, but his own dark eyes were kinder than ever before, swirling to their depths with another burning emotion she wouldn’t have been able to decipher eitherways.

Again with the silence. He’d nodded, then remembered that she couldn’t see him, and so he fought past the hoarseness of his voice to whisper, “Ah.”

A wave of emotions surged over her at the mere sound of his voice; that deep baritone she’d missed so much; the man who’d forgotten who she was and all they’d been through; the one person who’d unknowingly ripped her heart to shreds in the processs. With a rattling breath, she couldn’t stop the tears soaking through the blindfold even if she could, a few lone tears cascading down her cheek through the gaps.

Whimpering, she could only muster the strength to ask one single, heartbreaking question, having had her dreams shattered once before and not wanting to be let down again.

“Are you real this time?”

Here was Victor Li, an unshakable man who’d trekked through hell and back, who’d witnessed unimaginable horrors and relived his worst nightmares every day until he could take it no more, whose skin had sharpened blades and whose tongue had mercilessly sliced through people he’d loathed—and yet here he was, reduced to a mess by just one question.

In a split-second, a thousand others assaulted him: just how many times had he let her down? Has she dreamed of this meeting before? Was he as cruel in a million timelines as he figured he must’ve been? Did she ever come to doubt the emotions they’d unguardedly shared over and over again? Just thinking about it hurt him, unimaginably so—so much that it took all the strength he possessed to not pull her into an iron embrace.

Instead, he opted to shakily reach out for her cold, clammy hands. Had he imagined it, or were they smaller and paler than he last remembered them being? In all cases, he cast the thought aside and pulled her closer—close enough to gently press her palms to his face.

“Touch me,” he rasped out, “You can make sure I’m real.”

At his command, deft fingers began to trace the expanse of his skin, trailing all over his sharp features, dragging along his hallowed cheeks, and delicately brushing at his fluttering eyelids. With the smallest voice he’d ever heard from her, she asked, “You’ve… lost weight, haven’t you?”

Victor chuckled half-heartedly, incredible tenderness swimming in his eyes, “A certain someone wasn’t there to force-feed me sweets at the crack of dawn with her.”

A sob came from her, muffled by the emotions she tried so hard to reign in—and he knew, no matter how hard he tried or wanted her to, he wouldn’t be able to get her to stop. If her shattered soul was because of him, then he’d take the brunt of his punishment and watch her suffer, if it meant he’d have her back for good.

Her tears fell ceaselessly, but whether she was crying for him or for herself, it was unclear. All he knew was that she cradled his heart in her hands when she held his face like that as she cried. If there was a god or any kind of justice under the sky, he prayed to them that they’d keep her as she was.

“Victor, Victor!” she cried out, his name repeatedly falling from her lips like a mantra, as if he’d vanish if she pulled back from his hold, “Victor, I—”

The ebony-haired man shushed her, though he blinked rapidly in hopes of chasing away his own tears that threatened to fall. The gnawing at his chest could only be caused by his heart, thrumming painfully in his ribcage at the feeling of her touch.

“I know,” he swallowed with difficulty, knowing all too well the words she wanted to say, the yearning that spilled forth from between her lips, before pure want won over rationality, causing him to throw all caution to the wind and pull her sobbing self into his arms.

The embrace would’ve been suffocating, if she hadn’t craved it even more than he did, slumping into his chest, her cries muffled and her frail shoulders shaking. If he could, he would’ve let the warmth of his chest swallow her; would’ve let them become one entity so he’d never have to part from her ever again. Her arms fell to her sides as her hands clawed at his chest, her vice-like grip begging him to ground her; his beloved, his one and only.

And as his hand cradled her head while the other stroked words of love onto her waist, he finally let the tears slip past his eyes, squeezed shut as his own body shook violently.

“I’m not leaving you ever again,” he gruffly swore under his breath, shuddering as he inhaled sharply, “Never.”

And though he had no guarantee, knowing how cruel fate was, he vowed he’d keep his promise. After all, he could be far crueler than fate itself, should it challenge him and dare keep him away from the love of his life.

The one thing I haven’t figured out so far is Lucien’s Evol. I thought it was shields like that one, but I keep doubting myself on that.

I always find it better when they adapt the main story, as opposed to what Merc Storia did by adapting event stories…that’s why, even if this adaption isn’t the best, it’s still something I treasure (and that’s not just because it got me to play the game, haha).

Why does Lucien want Protag-chan to be so passive – as in, avoiding danger outright, rather than attacking it? It’s a bit weird…(Lucien’s my favourite, btw, followed by Gavin, which is why I have these opinions. I’ve got two Victor SRs and Victor’s so tsundere, I can’t like him much.)
