Things Iâm interested in is art, storytelling and character creation.
Iâm a more on the quite side but once you get to know me I can be quite unhinged but I am pretty nice but I canât advocate for myself which can be a problem
Some habits I do is bite my nails, stay up late and woke up early and doodle stuff on paper
This is for the matchup event!
I personally donât like warmer weather since I wear clothes more suited for winter I also donât like people who donât respect boundaries
Some cookies I donât like are tea knight, Dark cacao and pomegranate.
Also if I get matched with a child cookie I would like for it to be platonic
I am also okay with yandere stuff :3
-đ anon
(Man, I hate her but-)
Tw: implied controlling, she watches you sleep
I match you with Parfait!
⢠You both enjoy and creation, Which makes it easy for you guys to spend time with each other. She loves it if you spend more time with herâŚand listen to her musicâŚand only think about her.
⢠Parfait isnât the most unhinged, but you guys still have fun. Maybe some crazy fun time with her guitar? Isnât her guitar so cool? Isnât she so cool?
⢠I personally think she stays up late too, considering sheâs a streamer + musician and all. You guys have your sleep-deprived moments. And if you fall asleep before her, my does she love watching you.
⢠She actually loves warm weather! But she understands if you donât like it. She likes both the indoors and outdoors.
(As someone who lives in the winter for about 6-7 months of the year, I can say, I hate warm weather. Like bro most of my clothes arenât fit for it)
(I still hate Parfait so much)

Citizens of Botania
Head over to Botania and rustle up your leaves as I tell about the folks who live there.
(I know- that was bad.)
Lucinda Fox is Dr. Foxâs great grandmother, and she seems to be the matriarch of the clan. She and many other foxes reside in Veridan, Botaniaâs forest area (with both deciduous and coniferous trees in it), in a neighborhood called Fox Hollow. As you can probably tell from her coat, science runs in the family; back in her day, she discovered five new elements and made the earliest motherboard. She also had a hand in designing environmentally-friendly power systems. She still continues to explore the world around her today, and she has a close bond with her tight-knit family.
Lucindaâs two children are Jessie, Dr. Foxâs grandmother, and Jay, her great-uncle. Jessie has a degree in environmental science and took Dr. Fox to Botaniaâs natural history museum when she was a little kid. She created a device to measure and keep track of soil fertility. Sheâs a stylish and lighthearted woman. Jay likes to feed birds and let them land on his fingertips. Heâs a lights operator who works at the Flytrap Theater in Veridan. Heâs carefree, much like Jessie. Jay and Jessie are twins.
Forrest, Felix, Don and Rosemary are Jayâs children and the cousins of Dr. Foxâs dad, Benton. Forrest Fox studies physics and loves being outdoors, all the way down to sleeping outside. Felix Fox is a mathematician whoâs logical yet compassionate. He canât see very well out of one of his eyes. Donaldo Fox, or Don, is the only known member of Dr. Foxâs family who is actually licensed to practice medicine, and does it professionally. He cooks pastas and veggies in his spare time. He's all about the truth, so he can't stand when people don't get facts right. Rosemary Fox, or Rosie, is a mirthful teacher with a sharp memory. She teaches at a general school, which means she teaches basic life skills to young kids. One of her students just so happened to be Rose, and theyâve always joked about the likeness of their names.
Vita Fox is Dr. Foxâs older sister. Like her cousin Lila, she lives by herself, and her home isnât too far from where her relatives live. She likes to skate, and she also studies the behavioral habits of people. Sheâs generous, selfless, and is close with her family just like her great grandma. She and her sister were close when they were younger. To this day, she thinks about her a lot.
Then, there's Needle Herichon, the sea urchin who ruined the lives of many Marevians. I put him here because he's now in a banishment hold a ways away from Botania. It's a place where Marevi and Botania try to rehabilitate their worst offenders. He is controlling, dishonest, and doesn't care what happens so long as it benefits him. He won't admit that, though. He's a social urchin who has no problem talking with other people. However, he's also selfish and hungry for fame. He married Celina and built Spike with her just to get achievement points. He disrespected their boundaries, spreading mean rumors to discredit them while claiming he was helping them. He also tried to force Celina to stay with him, and lured a sea monster to a marketplace, hoping a battle would win her back. The Doom Lords are attempting to recruit Needle and give him the title of Master Deceit. His headcanon voice? Hadrian from Minecraft: Story Mode.
Lord Terran Monarch is the fairy ruler of Botania. He acts as a conscience towards his people and does his best to guide them down the path of life. He's selfless, environmentally aware, and very hail-fellow-well-met. He'll do what he can to ensure that the world will have a future to protect. Lord Terran is also good friends with King Nettle and Queen Moonlily, just like Botania is with Marevi. He wears glasses that help him see and read; without them, he canât see at all.Â
Zora is a dragontail butterfly and a close friend to Kira. He doesnât like being in just one place for very long, nor does he like getting wet. He travels around Botaniaâs desert and grassland areas. He is able to fly at great speeds, which makes him hard to spot. Moving at quick paces, Zora gets easily impatient and bored. But, he's a loyal and sympathetic friend and a resilient guy.
Allegra is another one of Kira's friends. She is a graceful performer who is regarded as one of the most beautiful fairies in her tree. She is a skilled trapeze artist, and she's part of the circus at her school. She is the peppiest and liveliest in Kira's friend group, and she loves when people watch her flip and swing. Trapeze isn't an easy art, and Allegra isn't a trapeze expert. She sometimes falls down, but she doesn't let her misses define her.
Bia is also part of Kira's friend circle like Zora and Allegra. Though feisty, she is inventive and problem-solving, and she tinkers with things she finds in the nature that surrounds her. She fixes things and also makes sure that they don't leave behind waste or use lots of energy. She's never been able to feel her wings, so she has these flight aids to help her fly. Her headcanon voice is Tink from the Tinker Bell movies.Â
Fern is Kiraâs older brother. He is a farmer who is learning to care for crops and plants. He has no problem with getting dirty when he works. He's considerate, so he checks in on Kira most often.
Kira and Fern were raised by their grandmother, Emi. She is a funny and sweet woman who likes to draw pictures. Her works are hung up in restaurants and libraries in the tree. Much like Kira, she likes having fun, so she's always up for some playtime. She also helped the siblings stay safe.
Desiree is a deer/mole hybrid known for selling tickets at cinemas and amusement parks. She lives to experience things, so in her time off, she heads in to see a flick or hop on a ride herself.
In Botania, the Gemflowers are the only people whose names are based on what they are. In their case, it's either their flower or their gemstone. Rose is a dashing Gemflower who's fine with being called either Rose or Ruby. They're also fine with being referred to as a he, she, they, it, or something else. He's energetic, vehement, and is good at chasing monsters or beasts away. They've considered joining the Bramble Wall, which defends Botania by doing that. They're also friends with Fern.
Carnation is an investigative young lass who says something important when no one expects it. She is technically siblings with Snapdragon, the sound effects artist for the Petalstones. Like her, she was created in a lab by Dr. Fox's aunt Daisy. People who Carnation is friends with, such as Allegra and Bia, know this, but she'd never brag about it.
Sapphire is an early bird who never seems to run out of stamina. He likes to work out every morning and makes sure he's getting enough sunlight. He lets fairies and insects rest on the top of his head flower.
Cherry Blossom is a friend of Kira's. He's sweet on one side but sour on the other. He's generally courteous, like Botanians usually are. But on some days, he'll be direct and open, and on others, he'll be tired and want to be left alone. He's always moving forward.
Freesia is a Gemflower who's only a young kid. She's innocent and a little bit superstitious. She often goes to hug the fairy trees, believing it'll make her wishes come true.
Moonstone is an instinctive friend of Kira's who also likes to call herself Brugmansia. She's an animal lover, just like her. She doesn't take kindly to people who don't show basic decency. She shows respect like most others, but knows that she doesn't owe anyone that respect.

THE TIME OF MY LIFE
I promised a new chapter every Thursday and I intend to keep my promise. All your feedback and likes are so so appreciated.
CHAPTER1
The descent into Sydney International seemed to be taking forever and after a 22-hour long journey, I was in no mood for patience. My jittering and bouncing knee annoyed the distinguished looking man in the seat next to me , heâd introduced himself as Seneca at the beginning of the journey and one look at his sleazy smile told me , that the next 18 hours of my life were going to be an endeavor to ignore my seat mate. And If my disinterested looks and earphones werenât enough to tell him off, I was sure my famous cold brushoffs would be quite enough. At least thatâs what Gale always told me. Ahh, Gale, my stereotypically male best friend that I was sure I was hallway in love with. Gale was my first crush, on the first day of uni we got paired up for an icebreaker session. I hurt his ego by saying he was too skinny to play hulk and he shot right back by calling me Catnip. I expected for it to go all downhill from there, but weirdly enough we bonded instead. I developed a gigantic crush that just refuses to go away and he dated other girls (lots and lots of other girls) before he found his âoneâ, Madge Undersee. Â That was off course until she stomped all over his heart and chose to move on pretty quickly. These days Gale spent most of his time moping around and being super clingy.
Pondering on my life so far seemed to be taking my mind of the creep sitting less than a foot away from me and the nervousness of what the next 6 months hold in store for me, so thatâs exactly what I did. I quickly rehashed my inner monologue looking out over the blue ocean just off the Sydney coast. I was so glad that last window seat for empty and up for grabs! Anyway, hereâs what I said(mentally):
âMy name is Katniss Everdeen, Iâm almost 21 years old, Iâm from Panem , I study at the Polytechnic college with a major in Product Design , Iâm doing a semester abroad program in Sydney Australia for the next 6 months , Iâm going to miss my family , I love my family? Iâm excited to get this ball rolling, Iâm also a little nervous. âThe sudden jerk of turbulence brings me out of my reverie, and with only minutes left to land I decide that this, this is going to be the time of my life and I am going to seize it.
The people here seemed so much friendlier and welcoming than back home, and their accents were adorable, the hospitality was pulling me in and I had to shake myself. Its barely been an hour since youâre here and youâre already getting soft, get a grip K! I wheeled my bags out and looked up the concourse calculating how Iâd get to my new home, when a loud âKatniss!â echoed behind me. I whipped around, that voice Iâd know anywhere. A little way up the concourse stood Cinna, or uncle Cinna as my mother would insist, he used to be my favorite relative before he up and moved to the other side of the world. He now beamed at me with arms open, it had been too long since I saw him and all of the emotions bubbled up and I ran into his arms, a little sob escaping here and there. An appearance of a familiar person suddenly quelled my fears, I wasnât completely alone and this whole endeavor was going to be a walk in the park. Thatâs when I saw his wife standing behind, smiling encouragingly with a bundled-up baby in her arms. The cold out here was biting and Portia coming to the airport with baby Rue made me feel oh so special, especially in this weather.
âCome on squirt time to get you indoors and settled in âand with that we were off, on the car ride home we reacquainted ourselves with each otherâs lives. Cinna now ran a full-fledged salon in the city and the small family lived in a cute suburban house just a few miles out of the CBD. Portia was a celebrity stylist and her flexible hours allowed her to spend more time with baby Rue who turned 1 this fall. Since the university residences wouldnât open until next week, my first week in Sydney would be spent with Cinna and his family at their home. I settled in pretty quickly, Cinna and Portia were oh so welcoming but tiny little Rue had stolen my heart. I doubted Iâd ever felt so connected and protective of a baby, save for when Prim was born.
Oh Prim! I almost forgot; it was almost time for our video call. Before I left, I promised my baby sister that Iâd update her almost everyday on what I had been up to. But video calls were saved for weekends and special events. Looking at the clock I calculated the 5 and half hour time difference and decided it was too early to call home. So, I wandered into the living room, looking for something to entertain myself with. In the week that had passed I had spent most of my time outdoors, discovering the new city, going on lunch dates with Portia and stocking up of all the essentials Iâd need once I moved into the dorms.
I was excited, I had been living alone for a few years as I attended Polytechnic but the whole vibe of this city was fascinating to me. The cultural diversity, the fast-paced life and the whole place in general made it seem like some kind of Hollywood production. Moving in day, dawned and it was cold. No one had warned me that Australia in June was as freezing as a tundra. But with the help of Cinna and a cute RA, that introduced himself as Darius, I was all set. Â After a round of hugs and take care of your selfâs I was finally left alone, not before I promised to keep Portia updated and drop in for dinner one of the days. As I plonked myself on the mattress, I let out a long sigh, here goes 6 months of new experiences I thought. Gathering up my stuff for the kitchen , I walked out only to run smack dab into a tall girl with a pixie cut and a sneer on her face , âOh so youâre in number 8 â, she said â Clove Richardson , the room across yours is mine and my friend Glim lives in number 1 , weâre both from the UKâ she said extending her hand for a greeting. I was taken aback by the abruptness of her behavior but introduced myself nonetheless, she asked for my social media and swiftly added me to the group chat with all the girls that stayed in the apartment. I had moved into an 8-bedroom apartment in the student village right across from my campus. As she walked away, she announced that since I was finally here, weâd have a house meeting this evening.
Nodding my head, I started placing my bowls and utensils into a shelf when a quiet voice behind me startled me,â Oh Iâm so sorry! I didnât mean to startle you, I just wanted to get my groceries in. âI turned around and in front of me stood a waif like girl, she had a head full of curly auburn hair and the kindest pair of green eyes Iâd seen ever, something about her seemed familiar but I couldnât put my finger down on what.â Iâm Annie Cresta and you must be Katniss? âshe said with an enquiring look, I merely nodded. âWait Annie Cresta? Do you happen to know a Finnick? Finnick Odair?â I asked suddenly remembering where I knew her from, âWhy yes, how do you know Finn?â she asked a perplexed look taking over her face. I started laughing at what a small world this was, explain to her how Finn and I were good friends back in school and that he had mentioned his girlfriend âAnnieâ multiple times during their conversations. Annie smiled, a tiny hint of mischief in her eyes and asked me how Iâd settled in. I rehashed my run in with Clove and that I knew Darius. She invited me to the open barbeque later this week and all I could do was nod unsurely. I may have been hell bent on getting new experiences, but I sure wasnât an out going person to start off with. For a matter of fact, I hated parties and large gatherings, but telling sweet Annie that there was no way Iâd be found dead at that barbeque was just plain mean .I holed myself up in my room until a soft knock and Annieâs voice told me everyone had gathered out in the living room .
As I looked around the room, I noticed Clove taking to a beautiful looking girl with platinum blonde locks and expensive looking clothes, that I concluded to be the Glim she had mentioned before. Annie was speaking to a girl in mechanic overalls with her hair up in a high ponytail. I smiled at Celina the exchange student from Japan, whoâd introduced herself to me during student orientation. The last two girls looked like twins but with completely opposing personas. âListen up bitches! Letâs call this meeting to order and letâs get acquainted yeah? âthe one in the overalls called out. âIâm Johanna Mason. I live in room 7 and Iâm a forestry majorâ she nodded as if to prod the rest to follow her lead. Glim turned out to be Glimmer Roberts a data analytics major, Clove was in room 2 and a Business major. The twins were in room 3 and 5 and introduced themselves as Maria and Eva Leeg. Room 4 was Annie and room 6 was Celina and room 7 seemed to be empty so far. The girl assigned to it hadnât turned up so far. A chore roster sheet was hung up and storage shelves divided up among the residents pretty quickly and efficiently. And rule sheets were quickly passed around. Just as I was turning around Annie called to me,â Hey Kat! Sorry can I call you Kat?â I nodded and chose to let her have her way, âFinn is coming down from Melbourne this weekend, and he wanted to know if youâd like to catch up âshe asked. I nodded a little overenthusiastically, I was feeling a little left out and meeting with an old friend from home seemed to be a great idea. âIâd love too, Iâll text him and let him know, Thanks Annie! âI called as I retreated to my room.
After I texted Finn to let him know he asked if it was alright to invite another friend of his that lived in the area, I understood he had little time and agreed to it. I spent a bunch of time scrolling through Instagram, looking at what everyone back home had got up to in the last week. I wasnât big on social media but Instagram and Tumblr had always been my weakness. Getting bored of it after a while I looked up at the clock on my study table, it flashed 8:30. Still too early to go to bed, I spent a while switching from the rather useless apps on my phone before I came up on Tinder. Â I had all but sworn off the app after my last disastrous date back home, but decided there was no harm in checking out what Sydney had to offer. I swiped left on multiple Chris Hemsworth lookalikes with shitty bios before I stumbled upon the account of Darius, he was cute and had seemed to flirt with me when He helped me yesterday, so I swiped right on his goofy grin and besides he had a really smart bio too. I kept swiping for a bit before another one caught my eye. His name said Peeta, and his only picture was a shot of his eyes hidden behind a thick bound book. The quirked-up eyebrow and black framed glasses added to the adorableness of this picture. His bio said âHummus where the Peeta isâ and I genuinely cracked up I swiped right just as a notification for a match came in. For a second, I thought I had matched with cute bread guy. But the notification said Darius. An unknown feeling bubbled up inside as I deleted Tinder on an impulse. I threw my phone across the bed and pulled a novel from the nearby shelf, snuggling in to read myself to sleep. But I could barely concentrate, my mind kept wandering to bread guy. I berated myself, this is what you get for opening Tinder when youâve sworn of it Katniss! Giving up hop on getting anything done tonight, I shut the night light and burrowed under the quilts and pillows on my bed. Willing myself not to dream of fresh baked bread and comfortable arms to snuggle into.

Second last day of August. I needed 70km to complete my goal of 1,500km for Great Cycle Challenge Canada so I rolled off 40km on Carnage ... down Oshawa Creek Trail, across the WTF Trail to Whitby and then back home. Sunset was stunning! Only Mother Nature can make the train tracks and 401 look better! The wind was whipping up a frenzy on the Lake, but Celina was safe in Port. The sky was mesmerizing all along the WTF but quickly turned dark as I got home. August is the Great Cycle Challenge Canada. I'm riding 1,500km this August and raising money to support SickKids Foundation and cancer research. This is my seventh year supporting GCCC. I now know two children who have or are fighting this terrible disease and one more who lost his fightđ. Your donation will help researchers find cures and better treatment options so kids can live long and fulfilling lives. Want to donate or join the ride? There are always two sides to a story
In Zen thinking, âNothing is what it seemsâ is why you should question everything, as peopleâs intentions are not always clear. Or, simply said: Donât judge a book by its cover!, a phrase dating back to the mid-19th century.
I was a competitive swimmer for my local club in the suburbs of Buenos Aires during my teens, and I love to swim in rivers and especially in the sea. So, I can best explain how this unprecedented world situation feels to me, by comparing it with getting caught in an undertow at the beach, sucked under a big wave. You get disoriented while the wave holds you down for what seems several eternal seconds until it lifts you again a few feet out, behind the breaking wave. Your heart is literally in your throat, and you feel like a puppet. The best is to try to keep calm, and then swim upward to the surface. You swallow the salty water getting choked, but then you spit it out and breathe again!
On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities alerted the World Health Organization of pneumonia cases in Wuhan City, Hubei province, China, with an unknown cause. Immediately after you start hearing alarming news announced by âso-calledâ experts, that the virus will infect and kill millions, based on unproven facts and faulty comparisons, later refuted. Panic ensues crowding the health care system in affected countries. Instead of helping those nations to cope, the world goes into lockdown! Every man for himself. Information comes fast and pounding like a giant wave, more like a Tsunami that spares nothing on its path!
Nothing gets media coverage but âthe virusâ as if nothing else matters in the world. (I refuse to use its proper denomination because it is getting far too much PR from everybody else.) Drowned under waves of sensationalist news, you have to gain your calm, reflect, sort out the information, and find the real facts, compare, and form a personal opinion. Then start searching avidly and systematically for the other side, because there are always two sides to a story, never forget that!
Fear is a powerful drug
An experienced journalist friend of ours told me recently, âThere is no oxygen in the media for other opinions at this time.â  The counting of the virus victims worldwide is published everywhere, day-in-and-day-out obsessively and relentlessly, as never done before! It plays on the fear of dying most of us have, causing extreme anxiety, known as Thanatophobia. (In Greek language, Thanatos refers to death, and Phobos means fear.)
Having lived under the military ruling in Argentina during my youth, I know by experience that fear is a powerful drug used by totalitarian regimes. The goal is to create an enemy, real or perceived, and then offer protection, demand total obedience, and end up exerting massive control of the population. I reacted to the present situation with the same alarm bells ringing in my whole body. How comes that with viruses every season and a plethora of other illnesses, there has never been daily worldwide public counting? Immediately, I ask myself: Are they trying to create panic and scare us purposely?
Respect other peopleâs opinions but dare to voice yours!
My moral values, my principles, my deeply set beliefs that have served me all my life are the underlying truths on which I base my dealings with the world. When somebody starts challenging those values and beliefs, I immediately question, especially when they are testing my fundamentals of humanity. I may not get the answers, but I will keep challenging. I have been an avid reader since a young age and I am very curious. I ask so many questions that my husband says I am like a 5-year old child. Well, I nurture that child inside me and hope it never leaves me, because it helps me in my quest for truth and meaning, particularly during difficult times.
Daniel Patrick Moynihan said: âEveryone is entitled to his opinion, but not his own facts.â I do respect other peopleâs opinions, but at the same time, I am more of an independent thinker. However, through the years, I learned the hard way that it is better to encourage dialogue, not hostility. You do not grow and evolve by arguing with others, but by gaining new insights, exchanging opinions, and perspectives.
You are guided in your reasoning by your experiences, good or bad. Writer B.J. Neblett said: âWe are the total of our experiences. Those experiences â be they positive or negative â make us the person we are at any given point in our lives. And, like a flowing river, those same experiences, and those yet to come, continue to influence and reshape the person we are and the person we become. None of us are the same as we were yesterday, nor will be tomorrow.â
Are we losing our humanity?
I remember growing up in Buenos Aires, whenever a friend or member of the family was ill, everybody in his entourage took turns in keeping him company in the hospital or at home. Are we now being asked to leave suffering people alone? It is common knowledge that human contact helps healing, a gentle embrace, touching a hand can not only lower stress levels but also boost the immune system and promote healing. Will the human touch become obsolete? Are we going to treat every illness, every virus through isolation? Are we losing our humanity?
Humanity is the human race, which includes everyone on Earth. It also defines the qualities that make us human, such as the ability to love and have compassion by helping one another, and not be a robot or alien. The word humanity is from the Latin humanitas for âhuman nature, kindness.â Humanity is about caring for and helping others whenever and wherever possible; it means giving a hand when they need it the most; it is about extending unconditional love to each other and every living being on Earth. Humaneness is the quality of compassion or consideration for others, people, and animals.
Love your neighbor as yourself â Mark 12:31
Do you believe that we find strength through unity? I certainly do, but it seems to have been replaced by Run for cover and forsaking all others save yourself! In the name of the good of all, most countries agreed to go into confinement, some more than others, at different stages, in a domino effect. The slogan everywhere is: Stay home until we say so! It seems incredible that this is happening on a worldwide level!
Life in Monaco under lockdown since March 17 is calm and very civilized. I just learned it will go on till May 3. The Princeâs Government has confidence in the population and vice versa, and decide the best way to protect the people. The Mayor and his team efficiently reorganized our local market in respect of social distancing measures. Additionally, they put together a vendorsâ delivery system, including pharmacies, plus meals home delivery for those who need it. The Princess Grace Hospital created a special unit to treat patients affected by the virus who need extra care.
Additionally, they offer treatment consultation online for outpatients who remain in their homes, thus avoiding overcharging the hospital. The Government strengthened psychological assistance by establishing a call center providing support during self-isolation. I find it to be a very conscientious overall approach to the situation.
We may go outdoors for brief exercise or jogging or walk the dog, allowing our bodies to absorb the necessary Vitamin D from the sun, breathe fresh air, and feel alive. The Government demonstrates they care for the overall health of the people over and beyond the virus threat, applying common sense. We made the right decision moving to Old Europe end of 2003.

In some countries, confinement rules are far stricter, and in some cases starting to be highly oppressive, forcing authoritarian practices on their people. Civil liberties that took so much effort to conquer are being challenged. While we are in a safe and comfortable position in the Principality, I do care what happens to other fellow citizens around the world, and it has direct consequences on all of us because we are interconnected.
On the other side of the spectrum, Sweden chose not to lockdown, exercising the right to national autonomy versus totally adhering to, what seems, harsh authoritarian ânew world orderâ demands. The Government issued sanitary guidelines, but is totally confident on their people to take responsibility themselves.
While I agree that our planet is getting a deserved rest from our overconsumption, people around the world are already suffering the catastrophic consequences of the lockdown at a social, health, and economic level. In many countries, small and medium-sized businesses will face foreclosure, unable to ride the mounting crisis. The stock market is a roller coaster crushing many. Has the world economy been purposely reset? If so, who will benefit? Follow the money. (A catchphrase in the film All Presidentâs Men, 1976.)Â
People living from paycheck to paycheck are not even able to buy goods to endure the quarantine. Millions are already losing their jobs everywhere, and with that, their sanity and livelihood, suicide, and domestic violence are on the rise, healthy people are suffering in isolation, many in very tight quarters. The bells of the church continue to ring calling worshipers but nobody is allowed in at a time they need it the most. These issues and many others are not making headlines in the media saturated by the virus.
Everybody anxiously wonders when this kind of house arrest will end in his or her country. It makes my skin crawl when I hear proposals of massive mandatory vaccination against âthe virus,â as a certificate to get out of confinement, followed by tracking and digital control of the population. Isnât compulsory vaccination against our human rights? Do we want biometric ID systems and big data algorithms to control our lives?
Keep close to natureâs heart!
I grew up in Argentina, playing the entire time outdoors; I could not wait to get out of the house and meet my friends on the street. We drank water from a hose, played in the dirt, run in the fields, and climbed trees! We got runny noses when we had a cold; we stayed in bed a few days, had plenty of vegetable soup and chamomile tea, and lots of gentle cuddling. Our smart and adaptive immune system did the rest. My adorable grandma, who was from Spain, told me that our body is a fortress with guards who run from place to place, seeking for invaders! She nurtured the belief in my immune system. I often say that living in a developing country helped me build antibodies that ward off diseases!
But do not take just my word for it; research shows that spending time in nature is good for our bodies, minds, and spirits. That makes me wonder why we are all under forced quarantine, not only people who are ill but also the majority who are healthy. Most donât have sunny balconies, houses with gardens, or villas with a pool and lots of space, or live on a farm or in the mountains. Research indicates that social isolation and loneliness can affect physical and mental health, and long-term isolation even increases the risk of premature death. That makes me wonder: Is placing healthy people in quarantine worsening their health more than the virus itself? Every life matters!
I invite you to read an interesting article from Harvard Health Publications titled âA prescription for better health: go alfresco,â as well as studies published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, that acknowledges the value of spending time out in the sunshine.
The benefits of being outdoors are many. To start higher levels of Vitamin D from direct sunlight, which is known to help fight off osteoporosis, cancer, and depression, and can modulate the innate and adaptive immune responses. It offers the potential for faster healing, as spending time in the sun could help you get over an illness or injury faster. Studies show that those exposed to more natural light have quicker recoveries and experience less pain than those exposed to artificial light.
When we are outside, we are more likely to engage in physical activity than being indoors. Going outside can get your brain moving thanks to the sensory stimulation that nature provides, providing a better sense of overall health. Psychologistâs studies link time spent out in fresh air and sunshine to greater vitality, thus helping our bodies become more resilient to illness. Spending time outside greater feelings of happiness â We have a natural connection to living things, so when we are out in nature, we feel we belong in our environment and foster a sunny disposition. As said in an article by the University of Rochester, âBeing outside in nature makes people feel alive.âÂ
Yes, I do comply with the current social distancing and quarantine rules; we eat healthy thanks to living with a man who loves to cook, I take extra vitamins, go briefly for a jog outdoors, and workout inside to keep in shape. But that does not mean I stopped thinking and questioning!
Todayâs QuoteÂ
âNo oppressive order could permit the oppressed to begin to question: Why?â Paulo Freire
