Cyclical end of the world…
In every era there was a belief in the coming end of the world; In the Middle Ages, the year 1500 was often considered the end date. Monumental cathedrals and Gothic churches were built with hope, in Gdańsk (Poland) the largest brick temple in the world was built for almost 150 years to postpone the end of time… Earlier dates of antiquity were often close to or coincident with real temporary apocalypses like plagues decimating entire countries. The Mayans believed that the great flood or other global catastrophe occurs cyclically every now and then. However, after the apocalypse, the new world is reborn and people learn anew and build civilization again. Following this line of thought, cavemen would be the remnants of ancient societies and this would explain where the "cavemen" knowledge about the stars comes from and where very early astronomical structures like the famous Stonehedge come from. Just like in Mayan legends; humanity locally even globally always regenerates but do we have any influence on such an apocalypse? Our belief that we live in exceptionally difficult times is nothing new. Maybe the question should actually be; "What can we do to not learn forever anew but to learn now to live in harmony with ourselves and the world around us? Here and now.

hmhmm actually ykw rant in tags kinda
#✧ chatting !#so basically our discussion topic today was like. why do ppl in poverty often turn to doing the ''wrong'' things like selling drugs etc#instead of just working a minimum wage job at loke. mcdonalds#and holyy fuck this girl. the whole time she just kept saying oh theyre just ruining their lives and theyre stupid for selling drugs !!!#if they get a job at mcd then thwy can have lots of benefits + good adults around them theyre dumb to not take thay offer up#and we were like ?????? its not that easy ???????????? do uu rlly think that a single parent home w kids can support themselves off mcd wage#or like an older sib supporting their younger sib ??????#also sometimes in like. inner city places uu cant just Walk everywhere cause it can be super dangerous . . .#to which shes like ok then just drive a car ????#and were like . . . a car is a luxury . . . theyre literally living in poverty . . .#and then shes like ok then just walk its all a matter of willpower and not being lazy !!!!!!#at which point im just. huhhh ??????#and she just keeps trying to push this idea that people who live like that are useless and just lazy and atp im ready to jump out the window#and she kept saying stuff like if theyre working so hard then just move out of the poor neighborhoods etc. and its like#??? its not that easy to just up and move away ????????#also housing is expensive . . . ? utilities ????? transportation to this new housing ??????#dhe thinks thay everythikg in the world is so easy its so frustrating . . .#i dont fault her tho its just how she grew up but like still yk !!!!! geh#anyways this is kinda mean but what are the chances she has a tumblr acc#send post or wtvr

well, the problem of having had a huge box of books for donation in the garage for 2 years but nowhere to donate them to has handily been solved by the fact that that stupidly long period of rain a few of weeks ago kind of flooded the floor where they were kept and like 90% of them have mould now :/
not how i’d have liked this to end (i hate chucking books) but it’s not like i can Not chuck them now
#eh#a Few books are more likely to be donated than a huge and heavy box#the only way u can get to the charity shops here is by driving into tow#*town#or taking a bus#and then walking the long high street to the charity shops#(no cars but emergency vehicles)#and uh#it costs a fucking fortune to take a bus Or to park#And the huge box was too heavy to just try and do a one off expense thing#but eh a little box that can be carried in might actually happen#also pro tip! if you're all about no car urban planning#i would advise that people based city planning with a prominent public transport system#only works if your public transport is not privately owned#trust me.#i live somewhere built Not to cater for vehicles but people#(it's pre car by Thousands Of Years)#and capitalism ruins the utopia you want#i can't afford to take public transport into town lololololololllll it's a laugh#a one off expense maybe... regularly? not fucking likely#too far to walk#too expensive to park and there's little parking anyway#yeah anyway those posts annoy me#they're usually ableist anyway#saw that one abt seoul and ppl praising it and like a month before i'd seen a post abt a protest by disabled people#at how inaccessible the public transport was

its so unfair we dont just have trains. like i am grateful that i can afford to pay for a car but i would definitely say i experience my car much more as a burden than as a source of freedom
#just found out the tires may have gone bad early because i don't drive it often enough??? like how needy is this bitch#driving it more would mean taking it to work every day which means i would have to get to the office 2 hours earlier to get parking#which would also cost me several hundred dollars a semester#and would also mean i have no excuse to leave work before my boss#all so i can pay extra for gas and ruin the environment more???#the bus is free#but the bus basically doesn't go anywhere except my work especially now that the city killed public transport#so i need the damn car to go anywhere other than work but goddd owning it is such a pain in the ass#it literally brings me nothing but guilt and stress#its so unfair that i cant just get on a train it makes me so mad

Dont ask me what I was doing scrolling through the comment section of a fucking LinkedIn post at 3 a.m., but recently a cyclist was straight-up murdered by a driver -- the automobilist was driving on a bike lane, ran over the foot of a cyclist, who punched the car in order to alert him. When the driver backed off and stopped, the cyclist went up to the driver to protest, upon which the driver turned the car towards him and ran him over. The author of the post mostly deplored the fact that 48h hours later, the ministry of Transportation had yet to make a statement (he has since met with representatives from various cycling collectives), while TV and radio discourse tended heavily towards blaming cyclists. The comments were a delightful mix of :
Honing in on the first sentence "Paul was murdered by a man driving an SUV" to either brandish la présomption d'innocence or jump to defend SUVs -- and honestly the people in the comments comparing this to US gun discourse don't seem far off, whether it's "the SUV didn't kill anyone, a madman did, and he would've done it all the same with a Twingo", "stop appropriating tragedies for the sake of an ecolo-bobo agenda", "umm, actually, there's no such thing as an SUV" or "I'm a housewife and mother, I need an SUV to drop my children to school BC that's all you can buy today, and *I* never wanted to run over anyone!", occasionally with people pointing out that sure, any car has the potential to be deadly, but SUVs are deadlier in a variety of ways, their much-touted safety features being only for the benefit of the driver and passengers
Bonus round: blaming the outcry against motorists and SUV drivers in particular on a culture of victimhood that depicts cyclists as poor innocent angels against the big bad SUVs
That very same cyclist-blaming, complete with anecdotes of badly behaved cyclists sometimes severely injuring friends or relatives of the commenters, which I don't mean to downplay, but I'm not sure how they relate to a cyclist being run over by someone driving in a bike lane. Also sometimes throwing in stuff about electric scooters. And people who identify as pedestrians taking the side of drivers???
"Sure, Scandinavian countries have robust biking infrastructure and a strong biking culture but they're culturally homogenous"
Since this happened in Paris, blaming it on Anne Hidalgo's anti-car dictatorship. There's one lady in particular who commented about a hundred times that back in her day, everyone was respectful of each other and the code de la route.
For that matter, denying the notion of vehicular violence and saying it's only a matter of lack of "respect" from all sides
The cherry on top: pointing out that the cyclist was a pro-bike activist as a manner of saying that he kinda had it coming.
#To be clear I drive and enjoy it#But only between cities#when there's no public transportation available#City centres are just so much nicer without cars#And this is not to say I'm one of the good ones#I'd like to think I'm a cautious driver but I had a close call involving a child on a bicycle#(luckily there was more fear than harm as I was driving at 20kmh and a 1994 Peugeot 205 has great forward visibility by modern standards)#But even without bringing murderous intent into it#Cars are absolutely potentially deadly or life ruining at any speed#And there's that presumption that drivers are the main users of the road and everyone else should inconvenience them as little as possible#And idk what kind of tunnel vision it takes to regard other road users as mere obstacles

It's Over! Vandalism Is Ruining Car Sharing In This City
Less than 2 years after its arrival, the car-sharing service Poppy is leaving Liège. The Belgian car-sharing company made this decision because of vandalism and the high number of accidents involving its cars. Poppy is a well-known car-sharing service in Belgium. It was launched by the Belgian importer of the Volkswagen group, D’Ieteren. Its red cars have established their base in several cities.…
