I feel like I see so many contrasting opinions on jobs for Bart when he’s older, ranging from scientist, super suit designer, cop (ew), unemployed and bouncing between part time things, etc. Honestly of those I know my personal favorites are fashion design and kinda bouncing between part time courier jobs (he’s never seemed like a full time kinda person to me tbh).
But I got to thinkin about it, what is one thing that we know Bart loves more than most other things? Video Games.
I propose this, indie video game designer/freelance artist Bart.
It makes sense in my head, Bart’d be bitching to Preston or Kon about how he’s beat like an ungodly amount of games and is getting bored/needs something new to play. They would make an offhand comment, joking about making one himself and I think he would find the idea intriguing. (Or honestly Helen could have suggested it after listening to Max get on Bart about needing to do something responsible to make a living & Bart shutting down).
I think that between hero work it would give him a creative outlet for his hyperfixations. Plus he’d probably have a blast figuring it all out. The first couple of games would be simple, figuring out the basics, but after those I can see him getting like really focused on a passion project game that he fully codes and illustrates. (He probably makes a young justice game, or skins in the games of his friends)
He’d definitely become a hit in the indie gaming community for the unique controls and mechanics in his games. People would reach out and ask him to help make their games, and eventually people would just start becoming really excited for whatever project he was working on.
Meanwhile he’s still just chilling with his friends in his free time, letting them playtest his games and taking suggestions on what the funniest easter egg could be. I think he’d mostly be couch surfing, hopping between staying with friends and “family” members on a whim. Usually chilling wherever the YJ was or hanging out at Carol, Preston, or Rolly’s.
Just feels more fun than him being a DC brand of “scientist” (no specific generalization or study) or cop (again ew). Plus he could still design hero suits while doing this (i like that headcanon, its fun)

“all that still matters is ‘love ever after’ — after the life we’ve been through” — life after you // daughtry
WC: ~950 words
3AM. The witching hour.
The air smells of twilight musk and marinating dew. It's pitch black all around you, the nearest gas station being an agonizing 1.3 miles away. You're also 10 miles from Hawkins, pulled over in nothing but platform heels, a black mini dress, and expired pepper spray in your purse. To make matters worse, the only friends up who seem to be up at this hour are hungry bears and obnoxious, chirping crickets. And skinwalkers if you're where you think you are.
A horrible ending to a girls night out. Just what you needed.
Alone and afraid, you decide to call the number one person on speed dial, whose gradual distaste towards you renders itself very evident from the moment he answers the phone.
"What?! I'm trying to sleep."
"Eds." you whimper into the phone. "I need you."
There's a long pause in response to your petrified sobs, followed by the clicking noise of a phone keyboard before you hear cursing and the frantic ruffling of sheets.
"I’ll be there."
Tumblr media
"Well?"
You watch as Eddie crinkles his forehead in concentration, examining your car while his soot-tainted hands explore every crevice of your hood. Routine maintenance has never been as issue because you've always had a personal mechanic at your feet. But since the divorce, you've gotten pretty bad about it. Otherwise, the you and Eddie wouldn't be stuck in this situation. Obviously.
"Weeelp." Eddie sighs, stretching out every bit of the syllable. He slams the hood shut. "She's just about blown out. You're lucky that thing didn't overheat too much with you in it."
You've prided yourself in not needing a man to change your tires, wiper fluid, OR oil nowadays. But in the midst of your journey towards self love and independence, you somehow forgot that your car could also overheat.
"Oh..”
You try not to watch intently as Eddie cleans his hands off with his hanky, the one he keeps neatly tucked into the back pocket of his flattering dark, denim jeans. Your eyes then trail towards his leather jacket, which housed his broad shoulders and delicious waist so nicely, you would've thought it had been tailored just for him. And you could just about fall right into him when he angles his torso towards you, his sculpted jawline glistening in the moonlight — but nearly not as glistening as those gorgeous chocolate eyes, the ones he used to his advantage during your marriage to get you to forgive him for whatever mistake he seemed to make that week. Before you could fawn any further, Eddie snaps you back to reality.
"When was the last time you put some coolant in this thing?"
"Some what?"
"You keep Prestone at the house?" Eddie pesters. "Antifreeze? Peak?"
Cheeks reddening, you shake your head. "No.”
"You get this thing examined often?"
“Not unless you do it," is what you shamefully admit. “For the most part…”
Eddie's face scrunches out of frustration. He knew this would happen.
"God, I hate when you do shit like this," he snaps. "For all I know your engine light could've been on for weeks."
"But it wasn't." you mutter softly. You're already scared. This is the last thing you need.
"You know your car in particular needs to be serviced every half year?" Eddie mutters. "Oil changes, tire rotations. Your break pads have also seen better days. Which is concerning."
"Ok.”
"And how many times do I have to say you gotta pay attention to this fucking radiator?!" Eddie hisses, slapping at the hood again with his open palm. You shudder at the loud *THUNK* noise that echoes across the woods. "We wouldn't be out here in 3AM if you had just taken proactive measures.”
"Stop YELLING at me!" you whine, a piece of your inner child spewing outwards to combat Eddie's belligerent word vomit.
"I'm not yelling." Eddie firmly insists.
He turns his back to you and starts towards your car again.
"Yes, you are, you always do." you croak miserably, balling your fists up in frustration. “You always do Eddie, and I'm sick of it! You always want to be right, and you always kick me when I'm already down to-"
“Okay, okay, okay." Eddie hushes you. He runs a frantic hand through his hair. "Agh, fuck, okay — I’m sorry.”
He looks at you with guilty, glimmering eyes as you shift your body away from him. Guarded, tense. Closing up all access of you towards him because he lost those rights a long time ago. Muttering to himself now, Eddie scrapes at the pebbles beneath his feet, fiddling with the chain of his wallet before he dares to speak to you again.
"I just worry about you a lot."
You peer back over at him. "Deadass?"
He snorts. "Well yeah."
With your permission Eddie stalks closer to you.
"I don't want to wake up to a phone call talking about my wife's car bursting into flames — with her inside." He rolls his eyes. “All because she hasn't been maintaining her shit.”
"I have been," you fib just a bit, though most of it rings true. just forgot to iron out some little details."
Eddie relaxes his shoulders.
"I know," he surrenders. “I guess there's a part of me that secretly hopes you'll still need me somehow. Some way, or another."
"I'll always need your presence," you reassure him.
Your ex husband softens up. He always thought that during your separation you had found another Superman to save the day. Some other handsome devil to fix your car and maintain all the leaky faucets inside your once shared home. But as you've always insisted, nobody has your back like Eddie. Your very own George Reeves. At your disposal for you and you only.
He suddenly wraps his arms around you, and as you predicted you ease right into him, the comfort and familiarity of Eddie melting away any ounce of hostility you guys have ever harbored against each other. You both have your days, but the love you two have for each other has always remained the same. Just changed form, is all.
"I'm glad you're okay," is all he says.
'I'm glad you're here," you sniff. "Always playing hero, per usual..."
"Well for you, always."
He plants a gentle kiss on top of your forehead as you two sway around in unison. You hum to showcase your endearment.
And he'd do it again.

I saw the Les Miserables US tour on Tuesday and am still IN MY FEELINGS about it, so here’s a random assortment of somewhat coherent thoughts/rambles/write up/review.
(Note: I saw the entire principle cast except Randy Jeter (who was out) and two ensemble swings. Andrew Marks Maughan was pulling double duty as both the Bishop and Combferre.)
• I didn’t know anything about Nick Cartell going in, but holy fuck, that VOICE. Tone is immaculate. Lungs of fucking steel.
• “Another story must beGINNNNNN” are you kidding me Nick. Who gave you the right to be this talented. Why is this man not more famous?!
• Preston Truman Boyd as Javert - voice is great, nice deep baritone. I wanted a smidge more from him acting wise though (this improved over the course of his performance).
• Nick and Preston sound phenomenal together, their voices work SO WELL.
• Haley Dortch has the voice of an angel and I loved her portrayal of Fantine.
• I appreciated that when Fantine was attacked/arrested all of the lovely ladies kept trying to stop it/help her. A nice staging touch.
• The whole transition into the courtroom was fantastic. Nick with that ending note of “Who Am I?” 🤯 I feel like I heard a few nods to Colm’s Valjean throughout Nick’s performance, this being one, which I appreciated on a cellular level.
• Confrontation sounded sooo good. It is a little goofy looking because Nick is so much shorter/smaller than Preston, which made the whole Valjean-as-stronger-man thing a bit silly. The blocking here didn’t do much for me. But what can you do. However! The “you’ll wear a different CHAInnn!” *cue Present with the chain hitting the stage floor* was fierce.
• It took a minute but Matt Crowle really won me over as Thénardier. Acting choices were 💯 without going over the top.
• There was a lot going on during “Master of the House” and it was a lot of fun, but also hard to catch everything.
• Gavroche was delightful. As usual.
• I’m not sure why Enjolras’ blonde wig was so bad, but it was really distracting. Devin Archer does a very decent Enjolras, but man that wig was not doing him any favors.
• Marius’ entrance was forgettable. I think this was more a staging issue than a reflection on Jake David Smith maybe? All the students kind of looked the same at this time. I had a hard time telling Les Amis apart all night, honestly. Except for Enjolras and Grantaire, obviously, which brings me to….
• Kyle Adams. You freaking fan-servicing national treasure. Cards on the table, seeing reviews of Kyle’s Grantaire was the single biggest reason I decided to catch this tour, and I was really, REALLY hoping to see him in the role. I did not think anyone would ever come close to eclipsing Hadley as my R of all time, but Kyle is right up there in his orbit. Omg that scene stealing little shit. He really put his all into “the drunk one”. Blowing the kiss to E at the end of Red and Black. Continually slapping people with his coat jacket. The dick-bottle in Enjolras’ face. Constantly goofing around with Gavroche. It was all gold. I really appreciate an actor who’s done their homework, and Kyle is very obviously well versed in both the source material and the rabid E/R fan fiction. His performance is a love letter to the fans - to those of us who have cried over the brick, who have watched every musical version we’ve been able to get our hands on over and over again - and I love that for all of us.
• Anyway, back to “Red and Black”. Devin is great, really brings the sassy Enjolras energy. Marius is….kind of forgettable again. Sorry, Jake. Enjolras when he grabs that flag…Devin is really serving.
• “Do You Hear the People Sing” was wonderfully rousing, as always. One of my favorites forever. The transition to the streets was very pleasing. Again, Devin with that damn flag. I might end up shipping Enj with the flag as much as E and R, he’s that passionate with it 🤣
• Delaney Guyer was a perfectly pleasant Cosette. No criticisms, I just haven’t really ever cared about Cosette much as a character. Her songs do very little for me. But Delaney was lovely.
• Mya Rena Hunter as Eponine was somewhat “meh” for me. Her vocals are killer and “On My Own” got one of the biggest ovations of the night, but I didn’t love her acting choices. Or maybe lack there of, it didn’t seem like there were any. I dunno.
• The staging/choreo for “One Day More” was really entertaining. Much better than the underwhelming marching I saw in the 2012 production. Devin serving sassy, dramatic Enjolras with flair and a rifle is a whole ass mood.
• I fucking love the barricade set. Seeing Les Amis climb all over that thing is such a moment. Enjolras literally leaping off the set multiple times. Dude gets AIR.
• Gavroche flipping off Javert was an audience favorite.
• “A Little Falls of Rain” was underwhelming. The staging was a bit awkward and there was no scene chemistry between Jake and Mya. I really wanted to feel something. I didn’t. Just eh.
• “Drink With Me”, on the other hand, was so wonderfully emotional. Kyle’s stying of R’s verse is an angrier, grittier interpretation and I’m sooo here for it. Enjolras goes to console him and R pushes him away. The pain feels so real.
• “Bring Him Home”….Nick. Fucking. Cartell. I have no words. He cast an absolute SPELL over the theater. His breath control is super human. His last “home” note went on FOREVER. Absolutely phenomenal. Hands down best version I’ve ever heard live. Biggest ovation of the night.
• Gavroche’s death 😭 So sad, so well done. It was very striking how he was shot just as Enjolras’ hand reached up for him as he returned. The timing, the lights, sound everything was excellent. Then he crumpled onto E’s shoulder. E handed his lifeless body to R, who was just devastated. I love the relationship they created between Gavroche and R this production. The entire build up of their interactions made this moment so poignant and believable.
• Christopher Robin Sapp really took his 5 seconds of National Guard Officer/Loud Hailer time and absolutely slayed it. I want to see more of this guy in the future.
• The choreo of the final battle was very satisfying. I totally missed Marius getting injured and just mistook him for another student because again….Marius was just not catching any of my attention this tour, lol. The frantic moment between E and R in this scene was so raw and well done by both actors. R reaching for E’s face, clasping hands so very briefly. Ugh.
• Then E with the flag again. This scene is so striking and Devin gives it EVERYTHING. Then R climbing up after E once he gets shot and falls off of the barricade. The way it takes a few moments for R to die after being shot and Kyle freaking Adams makes sure the audience knows it…
• I was lucky enough to see a production with the revolving stage back in the day and I’m really glad I did, because the reveal of Enjolras’ body hanging upside down off the other side of the barricade with the flag is one of those theater moments that will haunt me forever. Enjolras’ lifeless body in the cart just doesn’t have quite that same punch, but it’s timed very nicely with the music swell, and the way his body shifts/almost falls out of the cart when it’s carried away again is quite effective.
• Ok so the sewers. That was cool. I felt like this production used just enough of the screen to really assist the set design without relying on it too much. It worked really well for the orchestration and gave depth to Valjean just dragging Marius across the stage 3 times.
• Thénardier dragging in that corpse by his ankles for “Dog Eats Dog” lol. Matt really showed up for this scene. I think he did a good job of dipping into the “comedic” aspects of Thénardier as well as balancing the really rotten parts - this was a really great rotten part. I thoroughly enjoyed his turn as the infamous innkeeper.
• Javert is such a little drama queen.
• “Stars” was A++++. One of my forever favorites anyway, but Preston took this song to church. Also, I do NOT remember this staging, if it’s what I saw in 2012 (I don’t think so?!) and holy shit. I was not expecting what they did, which got quite a few gasps from the audience. The falling/floating/reaching while holding that last “ONNNNNNN” was a fucking MOMENT. Props to this production set up. Major props to Preston. Just wow.
• The transition from “Turning” to “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” was beautiful, and I love love love the candle choreography. When Les Amis blow their candles out….ugh 😭 This number was a bit of redemption for Jake David Smith, who until now had kept slipping into the background. I found his Marius to be a bit uninspired and unrecognizable for the most part. He did not bring much of a presence to the role until this moment. But his vocals were great here, and the anguish felt genuine.
• I don’t have much too say about “Beggars at the Feast” because I was too busy watching no one but Kyle Adams as Major Domo for the entire scene 🤷🏻‍♀️
• But omg the change of Thénardier’s lyrics from “this one’s a queer / but what can you do?” to “this one’s a queer / I might try it too” and then he dips that random wedding guest dude was a giant yes from me.
• Finale left a touch to be desired blocking/staging wise. I remember feeling that way with the 2012 production as well. Les Mis is just such a powerful musical, I feel like it deserves a bigger ending than basically everyone just standing in two lines behind Cosette and Marius. The cast’s vocals made up for the lack of production though. Truly so, so good.
• In conclusion: Nick Cartell has an otherworldly voice and Kyle Adams is the Grantaire we all deserve. I am so, SO glad I got to experience this cast.

Once again reffing this post
This is a list of jobs/hobbies I could see Tommy doing
(This was copy pasted from my notes so forewarning on formatting, I will be editing these as I make this post) I wrote these while brainstorming the story ideas and how I could use Tommy’s job to add to the theming or plot.
Delivery man (canon)
Packager
Shelf stocker
Car detailer (car reseller? Mechanic??)
Electrician
Furniture/appliance restorationist
Book maker (hand making and binding books) (hobby more like)
Tiler/mosaicist
Plumber
Pool cleaner
House cleaner
Janitor
Dog walker
Carer for Martin Preston (canon)
Researcher (would have to work at a slower pace bc tech can break)
Editor (as said above, would have to work slower)
Factory assembly line worker (canon)
Receptionist (as said above, slower.)
Assistant
On call handyman (extension of electrician plumber pool cleaner)
Baker (bakes food in early shift and gets food out at record times)
Food service (waiter, food assembler)
Sous chef
Search and rescue (urban and rural)
Macrame item maker? (I got rlly into watching macrame videos, and hey, it’s smth tactile to do I could see him liking) (also more a hobby)
Card making/scrap booking (hobby)
Dishwasher
From here it’s jobs he can more easily do with the constraint of looking after Martin, as is obvious with how it starts out:
Things that he can do late and night, or super early while Preston would be asleep
Shelf stocker
Janitor
Prep/opening shift baker
24 hr night shift fast food
Packager
Delivery man
Early morning dog walker?
Researcher
Editor
Macrame artist/maker
Dishwasher
{this all truly was balls to the walls ideas that were on the top of my head but I genuinely see Tommy as someone who has great work ethic when he stops playing the goofy guy, especially when he has people depending on him. Feel free to comment any of your ideas bc this fic idea is still very much in zygote territory, lol.}
(Edit on 25 august: what if, to keep him in the hero sphere but also delivery guy sphere, should he be an organ transporter? Like, he could run critically necessary blood and organs to hospitals to save ppl? Being a speedster is probably perfect for that job. I’m sure there are quite a few qualifications that he’s need to go thru to be able to do it but if he did it under a his Speed persona only it could work?)

Hi, Arvin Russell
A year after the incidents in Coal Creek, WV, and Meade, OH, Arvin is back in a small town after serving in the Vietnam War. He thought he had left the drama back home, but boy, he was wrong to assume such a thing. MENTIONS: ABUSE, FIGHTING, SMOKING, BLOOD
Tumblr media
"Anything else for you, sugar?" A lady asked as I stirred a spoon in my coffee to blend the creamer.
"No, thank you, ma'am, I'm fine," I respond with a drawl of my southern accent as she nods her head and moves on to handle another customer.
I've just gotten back from overseas. Fighting the war in Vietnam was no easy task, and since I've taken a seat, many people have come up to thank me for my service or give me God's blessing that I was able to come back home to my family. My grandma and uncle don't know I went to war, and I also haven't seen them since I left. What happened in the past year, I can never go back and face them, not after what I've done. I haven't prayed since my mama and daddy died or been in church since that day. Reverend Preston Teagardin was found dead in the pews with a bullet wound to the head. I take a sip of my coffee before I hear the bell on the door ring, catching my attention. I look over and see a couple walking in, a guy wearing coveralls with the name tag "Raymond" on the chest and a girl in tow behind him. I hunched that something was amiss when I saw the look on the girl's face; she was scared, and Raymond had quite a rough grip on her arm. They decided to sit at a table adjacent to my seat, and a waitress arrived to take their order when I heard Raymond start to flirt with her. The waitress decided to flirt back, which made me roll my eyes.
"Seriously?" As I took another sip, I thought, "If you're going to flirt with other women, why even bring your girlfriend?"
The waitress asked the girl for her order before she muttered, "Nothing, thank you."
"Speak up when you're spoken to, whore," Raymond said through gritted teeth as he slams a fist on the table, making everyone in the place jump, except for me.
"No, thank you, I don't want anything," The girl spoke louder as the waitress walked back behind the counter to get Raymond's order ready.
"It's good that you listened to me; you were getting fat anyways," Raymond said as I paused mid-sip at the audacity of this man to treat a woman as such.
As much as I wanted to punch him or smack him on the back of the head, I could hear my daddy telling me, "Wait for the right time." 30 minutes or so went by before they decided to head out. After watching them leave, I pulled out my wallet to grab a $10 bill to leave as a tip and headed out the door to make sure the girl was okay. I looked around for signs of her and thought I might've been too late until I heard a scream. I rushed over to where the sound was to see this Raymond guy has her pushed against a brick wall with one hand over her mouth and the other on her hip.
"You're going to do what I tell you to do," Raymond muttered as he reached his hand that was on her hip to go under her dress.
Before he could do anything else, I ran over and landed a punch square across the jaw. He groaned in pain before he turned his attention to me and wiped the blood from his lip. Raymond wielded his fist back to land a punch in my nose, hard. I then jump on top of him to continue throwing punches until I see him struggle.
"Now, stay away from her, or else I will find you again and do worse than this," I said as I leaned my face to Raymond's, "Got it?"
Raymond nodded weakly, and I moved off him to turn my attention to the shaking girl in front of me.
"Hey, hey, it's okay. He shouldn't hurt you again, is there anyone you need me to call or come get you?" I asked as she shook her head no, "Okay, come on, I'll give you a ride, and you can stay with me until you recover enough."
I started to walk to my car, expecting her to follow me, but before she did, she landed a hard kick to Raymond's ribs. I opened the passenger door for her to get in, then shut the door to go to the driver's side.
"Why did you do that?" I hear her ask before I told her I'll explain everything when we're back at my place.
After arriving, we got out of the car and before I could grab a cigarette to light, I see her walking up with a napkin in hand.
"Wha-" I was about to ask before she started wiping away the blood from my nose, "Why are you doing that?"
"You did something for me, so I thought I would do something for you," the girl responded as she tossed the bloody napkin in a nearby trash can, "I believe you said you'll explain everything when we arrived."
I pulled out a cigarette and lit it before I asked her for her name.
"My name is Y/N, and yours?" She asked back, making me chuckle.
"Arvin Russell, and well, no girl deserves to be treated like that, so I waited for the right time to beat up that dumbass," I said as I walked toward my porch and asked, "Are you sure there's no one to call?"
Y/N shook her head before saying, "My mama died when I was young, and my daddy was nowhere to be found. I've been on my own since I turned 18, but I lived with my aunt most of my life. She lives in the next town over. What made you think you needed to wait for the right time?"
"My daddy, he taught me that before he died," I responded as Y/N looked curious before she asked about how it happened.
"I was young when my mama got diagnosed with cancer. My daddy had it in his mind that God would remove the cancer from her body. So we would go to the praying log to pray, hoping that it would work, but when it didn't, my daddy sacrificed my dog, Jack. He committed suicide the day we buried my mama," I responded as I turned my head away, not wanting to see her reaction.
"Please tell me that dog isn't still hanging on the cross," Y/N said as I shook my head and told her how I went back years later to give him a proper burial that he deserved.
"So, what brought you to this small town of mine?" Y/N asked as I considered my answer before simplifying it to, "I've just finished fighting the war in Vietnam. Amongst other things, but I'm keeping those details to myself."
"I get that. You just met a total stranger after coming to her rescue," Y/N said as I laughed before I thought to ask if Raymond knew where she lived.
"Oh shit, I forgot about that. He's probably waiting at my front door for me to come home," Y/N responded, looking nervous, before I told her she could stay as long as she needed to feel safe, "Wait, you're okay with me staying? Even if you just met me?"
I nodded before saying, "I'm not a bad guy to live with, I can give you space when and if you need it."
"Okay, then I accept your offer, Arvin Russell," Y/N said with a smile as I smiled back at her.
Little did we know that decision would change both of our lives forever.

I will always attempt to prod you for new Garcy content, so, here's hoping this speaks to you 😂 (also happy belated birthday! <- my Tumblr wasn't working properly on you big day, and didn't let me send you a HBD greeting then, so I'm doing it now) 🥳

Garcy
41. Don't look back
The New England night is rank with cold, with the briny scent of the distant sea, with woodsmoke and creosote, tar and turpentine, hay and mud. Lucy stands with her arms crossed, her coat drawn tightly over her shoulders, staring out at the dark woods that stretch endlessly beyond this simple farmhouse on the edge of Boston -- in the year 1880, a fast-growing industrial city, thronged with largely-Irish immigrants, strung up with newfangled electric lights and trolley cars, steamships moored at the docks, but still straining at the old Pilgrim bones beneath, forced to accept all this modernity at a blow. In other circumstances, she would almost like the chance to look around. Not, however, as if that is going to happen. Now or ever.
She shivers harder. She can still feel the wind cutting right through her, and surely it's her imagination that it's not just a figure of speech, that she's becoming more and more insubstantial, never-existing, by the moment. She feels dreamy, almost comfortable, the sort of lulling reverie you slip into when you're on the brink of freezing to death and it feels downright pleasant. She looks down at her hands, tries to see if she can see through them to the ground. It would be just, perhaps. It would be the only outcome.
Just then, there's a particularly loud commotion in the farmhouse behind her, and she turns around sharply. She hasn't been paying attention to the low-level clamor -- the shouts, the shots, the smashing, the screaming, the sort that would attract the neighbors if there were any in range. As it is, there aren't, and that too is all by design. She stands here, a cold and merciless goddess, listens to men die inside, and feels... nothing. Her mother has, in the end, done her job too well. Carol Preston dutifully raised her daughters in Rittenhouse, trained Lucy to be the heiress, the crown princess, and now it's playing out exactly as she intended, with one devastating little twist. It's Rittenhouse dying in there, all of them, or at least Lucy so badly hopes. All her ancestors, her great-grandfathers and uncles and whatever else, and that means that when they get back to the present day (if they get back to the present day), there is a very good chance that she will never have existed at all. Will be a revenant, a time-ghost, a relic from another timeline who has nothing left at all, no root to her old life, and not even anyone else's memories. Hell, she might just wink out on the spot, a twisted paradox too contradicted to exist. Is it worth it? Can anything possibly be worth this?
Yes, Lucy thinks. Her face is stone, her eyes are dry, she does not weep a single tear. Yes, it is.
At last, the banging and blasting falls silent. Ruthlessly effective as he is, Garcia Flynn is far from subtle. There's a long moment in which Lucy panics, thinking that they managed to strike a lucky blow, that he's gone too, but then he emerges, tall and dark and shadowed, his suit sleeves spattered in blood. He looks at her and doesn't say a word. Just goes to his knees in front of her (even so, he's still almost as tall as she is) and holds out the gun, a medieval knight pledging his sword to the service of his lady. At last, his voice half a whisper in the wind, he says, "It's done."
Lucy shivers from head to toe. She looks down at him and doesn't answer. Yes, her ancestors might all be dead now, but there's still no guarantee that Rittenhouse has been erased, root and branch. One of them might have left a pregnant wife somewhere, or a secret mistress with a love child, or all the other ways history contorts around on itself to protect its continuity. She could have done all this, live with the knowledge of it forever, and still failed. Flynn might have gone in there to kill her whole family, but Lucy is the one who brought him here.
(What would she have done, if they hadn't found each other? Who would she be? Carol's perfect little Rittenhouse princess, just as planned? Not this, this Salem witch, hands dripping with blood just as much as Flynn's. It's only on his because she asked him to do it, and he agreed. That's love, she supposes. A twisted and dark and desperate version, but still love. He is the only thing she has.)
"Flynn." Lucy doesn't recognize her own voice. "Please. Get me out of here. Get me out of here."
Flynn considers, then nods once. He lifts her halfway, arms around her waist; as ever, her weight is completely negligible to him. It's going to be a long walk back to the Mothership, where Rufus is waiting nervously. When they get in, the jump very well might not work, as long as Lucy is in there. The space-time continuum might reject traveling back with an alien entity, an erased object. She might have to get out and stay in 1880 forever, the price of removing Rittenhouse in the present. Is she ready to do that? Can she stand it? Or will she just simply evanesce away?
"Flynn," she starts again, shaking, her face buried in his shoulder. He walks quickly, but somehow without hurrying. The wool of his jacket smells of lamp-oil and fresh blood. "Flynn, I'm not going to be able to come back, not if I don't -- "
"Yes." He sounds calm, certain, cold as the snow. "You're going to be fine, Lucy. Rufus will figure it out. You'll come home with us."
"But back there -- " Lucy twists, tries to peer over his shoulder, to look back at the dark farmhouse where Rittenhouse has, pray God, finally met its utmost end. "If you -- "
"Shh." Flynn's grip tightens on her. "Don't look back, Lucy. It's all right. Trust me. I would never do anything to hurt you."
It's a deeply ironic utterance, considering what he just did to her whole family (on her express invitation, but still) and how their relationship started, but she does. She trusts him. She holds onto him with both hands. Don't look back. Like Lot's wife fleeing from Sodom, unable to resist the curse, transmogrified into salt. There are tears on her cheeks. She tastes it on her lips. She doesn't know who she's crying for. It seems impossible for it to be her.
Don't look back.
Lucy buries her face in Flynn's neck again, and does not.

companions work at a grocery store
Cait; Cart attendant and odd jobs. Does some cleaning, some stocking, gets paid for whatever she does. Nick's just happy she's staying out of trouble. If she were a worse person, she'd drink before driving to work. As if stands, drinks at work. She works with earbuds in, and it's a wonder she isn't deaf with how loud she blasts her music. Very grumpy, good luck getting help from her. Surprisingly doesn't steal. "Not from this store, anyway," she says. Will offer to walk lone women back to their cars if its dark out. Survives entirely off of Preston's reject cakes.
Curie; Pharmacist. Very fast, very knowledgeable. You won't spend more then 5 minutes at her counter. She'll notice things about you and recommend treatments which gets her in trouble. Some people get put off by her advice. Sometimes buys the other employees food when she thinks they haven't eaten yet. Buys veggies and makes a salad in-store for her own lunch. Always has an ice tea in her hand. Her coworkers are pretty sure she's won awards; not sure why she's there.
Danse; Loss prevention/security. When he first got the job, you would have thought it was a CIA position. But a few months into it, noticed that most shoplifters are stealing essentials. Had that moment of "hey, shouldn't this at least be cheaper, if not free?" and radicalized overnight. Nowadays, mostly throws out people throwing tantrums, makes sure Cait eats and sobers up before driving home, and keeps Hancock from getting them all sued. Takes migraine tablets like candy, will give you hugs if a customer is shitty to you. Mom to Nick's Dad.
Deacon; Cashier. Much like X6 and Curie, why is he there? He has a lot of money. Like...way too much. Trust fund kid? Porn star? He's very chatty and friendly, will remember you even if you only shopped there once. He'll show up to work dressed as one of his coworkers and try to take over their job when someone calls out sick or something. They appreciate it, because money, but still...creepy. 'Yes, and's angry customers, baffles them by becoming more belligerent than they are. Tries to fight Danse and Hancock in a customer's stead.
Gage; Butcher. Legend has it he went to prison for hacking people, and wants a way to legally get his fix. No. He bought a pack of deli meat for sandwiches, and was disappointed with the consistency of the slices. If you want something done right, do it yourself. Rarely seen outside of the deli or his car. He's pretty sure the bakery guy has a crush on him. Materializes out of thin air to egg on Hancock. Shockingly, pretty good customer service. Needs maybe three, four words before he knows what they're asking for. Has never been wrong. Judges you if you make a big deal out of buying leaner cuts.
Hancock; Custodian. Work buddies with Cait. He doesn't work with earbuds in, prefers to think. If you catch him when he's not busy, talks your ear off about history and politics. Will call customers out on the spot if they're...y'know, doing customer things. Danse comes in before it can ever escalate to a fight. He cleans slowly, but thoroughly. Also comes from money, and definitely sells on the side. Open about being here just for realistic, proletarian experience. Thinks its good for the soul. Keeps you humble. Has tested every brand of brownie mix for weed and will recommend the best one for 'his people'.
MacCready; Part-time bagger, part-time overnight stocker. Mac takes his kid to school, comes to work as a bagger, goes and gets Duncan, brings him home, and stays with him until bedtime. Then he comes back as a stock clerk. He studies for better jobs on his breaks. So tired. Drinks so much coffee. His coworkers all but throw free food at him. He hates it, but knows better than to turn something down for his own pride. Keeps things customers leave in the store. If it was, like, a phone, he'd give it back. It's never a phone. It's shoes, socks. A set of kitchen knives, once. They don't sell knives.
Nick; Retired detective turned store manager who thought running a store would be less emotionally taxing than crime scenes. He was wrong. Ellie, the assistant manager, handles the actual numbers and paperwork. Handles belligerent folks, will blacklist without a care. Would give everyone raises if the corporate higher-ups would let him. Older problem shoppers get sent his way—they can't 'respect your elders' him. Calls the cops when people sexually harass his cashiers, Piper and Deacon disguised as Piper. Feels like he had a better opinion of humanity when he was working in crime. Cannot believe none of his employees are felons.
Preston; Bakery. Wants Gage dead. He gives 'reject' goods to his coworkers (not Gage). Very tired man, takes out frustration on bread dough. Will offer free samples even if the sign isn't up. Won't charge extra for wedding cakes, mostly because the final product never lives up up to his own expectations. Has perfected the 'this isn't a stupid idea' expression. He's a chain store baker, not Cake Boss. But he tries, bless him. Best customer service, naturally helpful, just wants you to be happy. The only employee to actually fight a customer.
Piper; Cashier as well, does her own bagging. Quick with her hands. Also very chatty, but not to Deacon's extent. She prefers to get her people in an out quickly. Will talk politics based on what she can glean from her customers. Sends extreme couponers to Deacon, she's not paid enough for that crap. Will smuggle small candy packages from storage if they're damaged in some way, takes them more openly since Danse eased up. Nick doesn't care. Makes the best instant Ramen in the breakroom's kitchenette, will make it for coworkers she likes.
X6-88; Florist. He wears nondescript black clothing and sunglasses indoors. If you Google them, they cost more than anyone's annual salary. He conceal-carries. Freaked out Danse when he brought it up months after his employment. "I need to know these things!" "I just told you, sir." His bouquets are...unnatural. Like, geometric, too perfect. Tsks when a customer puts in a request he doesn't approve of. Very judgemental. If you order a bouquet for your spouse, and another for a side piece, will purposefully mix them up. He used to work at a government facility and drives a vintage hearse. 100% has killed people. Gives flowers to whoever buys him sugary frappacinos.

Traintober 2024: The Game part 2
More about the Victorian Railways Institute Football League from this post by Connor7395 (THANK YOU!).
Information I've found on the VRI Football League from the VR Newsletters I've found PDFs of online (victorianrailways.net). 1964: Newport Shops were premiers. 1965: Loco initially did not field a team, but after a special meeting, the team reformed. Final ladder was Newport Shops (unbeaten although they drew a game with the Lines), Suburban Lines, Loco, and Codon (missed finals). Loco shocked the league by winning the Grand Final, defeating Newport Shops 15.14.104 to 4.6.30. 1966: Final ladder was Newport Shops (unbeaten), Suburban Lines or Loco, and Codon (missed finals). Loco defeated Suburban Lines by 15 points in the preliminary final at McAlister Oval in Brunswick. Newport Shops won the Grand Final easily, 23.17.155 to 1.7.13, at South Melbourne. 1967-72: Competition in recess 1970: The Traffic Branch defeated Rolling Stock by 33 points in Ararat. It also appears that Loco might also be Rolling Stock. 1971: The Traffic Branch defeated the Commercial Branch 18.23.131 to 8.7.55 in the L.W. Butcher-M.J. Noone Shield. The shield is named after two members of the Commercial Branch who were killed in a car accident in 1970. The Secretary's Branch challenged the Commercial Branch to a game with the Traffic Branch offering to play the winners after agreeing to a match with Melbourne Goods. 1972: A few games were played. Estate Office defeated Track and Drainage 12.18.90 to 10.14.74, and Traffic Branch defeated a combined Secretary's-Commercial Branch 18.8.116 to 8.10.58. However, it looks like this was not part of a league. 1973: The VRIFL reformed. Teams were Traffic Branch, Newport Workshops, Melbourne Yard, Commercial Branch, Accounts Branch, Melbourne Goods, Rolling Stock, and a combined Ways and Works and Secretary's team. Games were played outside the metropolitan area, including at Romsey, Sunbury and Little River. Newport Shops easily defeated the Traffic Branch in the Grand Final. 1974: Unclear if the league happened. 1975: Teams were Accounts, Marketing, Melbourne Yard, Newport Shops, Traffic and Waysec, with Traffic on top early. Games were played at Ransford Oval in Royal Park. Traffic defeated Accounts in the Grand Final by 33 points. 1976-79: Little information about the league is available now. Ron Baggott, who played for Melbourne, retired in 1976 after 18 years of service with the VRI. Ron contributed to the VR Newsletter with his own sports page in his first few years. Games against the Australian Postal Institute: 1965: VRI 18.18.126 def API 5.9.39 1966: VRI 18.14.122 def API 8.8.56 1967: API 9.13.67 def VRI 7.7.49. A social game between a combined Accountancy Branch section (from Flinders Street and Spencer Street) and the Preston Tramway Depot took place too. The combined side won 10.10.70 to 10.9.69. 1968: API 15.14.104 def VRI 9.9.63 1969: VRI 14.10.94 def API 10.16.76 1970: VRI 18.12.120 def API 3.18.36 1971: VRI 15.16.106 def API 10.9.69 1972: API 7.12.54 def VRI 5.9.39 1973: VRI 11.10.76 def API 8.18.66 1974: API 11.16.82 def VRI 5.18.48 1975: VRI 10.6.66 def API 7.15.57 Games against the South Australian Railways Institute: 1974: VRIFL 10.16.76 def SARI 9.8.62 1975: VRIFL 11.15.81 def SARI 7.7.49 Not much can be found after the seventies. Footypedia had Melbourne Yard playing in every grand final between 1985 and 1993, but only winning in 88 and 89, and the league winding up for good in the late nineties.

what's the worst camp camp fandom story you heard? or, what are some bad or wild ones?
You wanna see the longest lists of trigger warnings I've ever written? here we go
TW: ⚠️R*pe, S*lf H*rm, S*icide, Pregnancy, Violence, death, Gr*oming, Abuse, all mentions⚠️ hopefully I'm not forgetting anything
I was recently told a story about this person who was stuck in a ongoing roleplay(s) that just kept getting worse and worse. It involved Max, trans FTM teenager involved with Snake but he was abusive and they were constantly cheating on each other and Max had multiple children with him, Preston, had other partners even. Snake had children with Erin. Alot of it was Max facing alot of abuse and troubles, and physical bullying at school even while pregnant. There was always either a baby on the way or a newborn. David kicked Max out for being a teen parent, turned to alcoholism, Max was constantly going back to Snake, abandoning the kids. David being mad at Max despite doing the same thing. Gwen acted like David, accidentally crashed the car into a hospital with the main cast inside. Snake kidnapped a baby with no consequences. I was just appalled reading them telling me this.
Then there's like the typical "here's like 5 artists that got popular then called out for drawing werid shit of kids or doing werid shit to kids" heard a lot of those stories. Recently had to leave a server bc another one came out, jfc.
I don't have the attention span for fics but I've heard of some from other people that're like "Daniel 🍇 ing David but David is still in love with him," "Jasper 🍇ing David and Daniel comes and kills him and saves David" "Gwen abusing David and Daniel kills her and saves him" I group read a fic when Wattpad was getting streamed on a discord call and it mentioned Nikki Neil and Max all had cellphones and Max decided to run away bc his mom was kinda rude to him and made him do some chores and he's like "I can't take this anymore" and told his friends to runaway with him without actually telling them what they were doing and they weren't even missing for 24 hours and none of their parents called them but it hit the news and the news/even Max's father making a statement was like "yeah Max probably kidnapped those other kids" LIKE HE AIN'T TEN YEARS OLD AND MISSING HIMSELF 😭 the fic was probably written by someone very young along time ago so I don't wanna dig into it too hard but omg
Personal experiences I have are like, on Kik actually when I was first in this fandom my only exposure was basically a public chat on Kik and then later amino. Max fangirls had little to no boundaries with Max RPers and I had a problem saying no as a kid so it got me into some wacky adventures!!/neg
Like a problem we had in that GC was people coming in with their OCs and like the most openly triggering backstories ever speaking on them loudly and like making their OCs cut n stuff and a friend I had at the time literally blew a fuse and basically told them "you are RUINING my one safe space do you srsly have to bring that in the RP"
We had a Nerris RPer who would make her have full violent breakdowns and I don't even remember all the details but it got so bad and us being all young and stupid tried to handle it THROUGH RP IN CHARACTER TO AVOID DIRECT CONFLICT 😭 I remember Rping as Nerris' parents getting called to pick her up and take her back home bc she couldn't control herself. It made things worse.
This one person had an OC who was Daniel's and David's baby they found in a dumpster and throughout the course of that RP they kept ageing her up and she went from being a baby herself to being a teenage mom of two. I remember my friend rping as the social service worker who came and took her kids after I had Max call her in.
Same OC did the "storming off dramatically" thing and I tried to be nice and have Max follow her and they had her respond "turns around with a bow and arrow and shoots you directly in the eye and doesn't miss" and jasper and Gwen got their date interrupted to take Max to a hospital and recon that it ALMOST* got his eye bc he would've IMMEDIATELY DIED realistically.
On amino there was this one max fangirl RPer even my current friend now had a run-in with and at the time I had even heard stories about how she would go into group RPs and cause a stir.
Like wanting Max to date her and when he refused she killed herself and then started rping as her OCs brother and berating and harassing Max for "killing his sister"
She joined MY rp once and I panicked bc I always delt with things THROUGH my character or ignoring it. But this RP was a personality swap and Max was a really sweet kid and she always wanted to be right on his hip, trying to interact with him.
So I made him, (who was currently in the mess hall attic) fall through the ceiling and onto a table so I didn't have to talk to her OC

RELATIVITY FALLS AU DESCRIPTIONS
PT. 2
SOOS RAMIERZ: (Kinda viewed as a Kook) Soos or Mr. R as people like to call him. Is the 60-something year old that runs the local town fix-it up shop! He can fix anything from cars, houses, pipes, etc! He loves to help those in need and offers quite a low price for his services. Many people view him as odd or strange since he uses terms such as “dawg” or “dude” that affiliate with the younger generation terminology. He rarely talks to anyone else that isn’t close to him. And mainly focuses on his job. The only time you see him is in his shop, working, or buying food at Greasy’s Diner. Although he seems like a busy work guy, he was the first person to befriend (although it was slightly) Dipper Pines in the town.
WENDY CORDUROY: (Takes Manly Dan’s place) Wendy is the town’s local lumberjack/partial construction worker, the 60-something year old is still laid back and cool as ever. She is the much older cousin to Boyish Dan, she raises him as her own after the death of his parents. She often stops by the Mystery Craft store, dropping wood off for Mabel’s projects.. or when it often needs repairing her and Soos stop by to fix it. She also assisted Dipper in building his shack when he first moved into Gravity Falls. Although a couple years older than him, when she first was building the shack he would always seem to flush or be awkward in her presence. He was probably nervous.. likely not though.. but meeting new people can be hard! He slightly befriended her though..!
GRENDA GRENDINATOR: The Greasy Diner’s head waitress. Having rumored once to have dated a prince! The 60-something year old definitely loves to talk and slightly gossip to everyone. She especially loves to keep up on all the cheesy romance books and movies. Right away when Mabel moved to Gravity Falls, the two instantly clicked becoming best-friends! They often like to talk to each other about their love lives. She was Mabel’s biggest supporter when her brother mysteriously ‘died’ she had even prevented herself from gossiping about it in respect for Mabel.
PACIFCIA NORTHWEST: Still rich as can be even in her early 60s. Mother of the teen Preston Northwest. Pacifica is the local charity organizer and the superintendent to Gravity Falls. She is rich and snobby, although she never much liked Dipper Pines when he moved in. But he didn’t talk much and he did his fair share of donations, so she didn’t mind him. But Mabel on the other case.. being the obnoxious and overly energetic older lady. Who would donate sweets or trinkets to sell at charity events would never send her fair share of cash. Which would enrage Pacficia, as a one sided rivalry would begin between the two.
(Sorry to disappoint you all but Pacficia x Mabel and Dipper x Pacficia will not be canon in this universe!)
GIDEON GLEEFUL: The town’s 50-something year old mayor.. that sure loves to make pins with his face on it. Although he appears sweet, helpful and caring (In someways he is) he is downright annoying. Always wooing the town with gifts, a new tree planted or kissing a baby on the head. He really isn’t the best at being a mayor outside of campaigning for his image. Usually his trusted cousin? Nephew? No one really knows asides from that their related somehow, his relative the young and quite spurley young adult Buddy Gleeful assists him with his duty.. Especially as her chases after Mabel.

LCC tram No. 118 @ Beresford Square in 1908 by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: An old photograph of London County Council Tramways (LCC) B class tram No. 118 in Beresford Square, showing a 'Wickham Lane' destination blind box. The building behind and to the right of the tram is the goods office of the 'London & North Western Railway'. The photo reverse is initialled as being from the "ADP (A. D. Packer - David Packer ) collection". National Library of Scotland old/new overhead maps view:- maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=18.0&lat=5... No. 118 was built as a 'Preston' three-window design open top car in c1903 by the 'Electric Railway and Carriage Co.', seated 22/34, ran on a 4-wheel Brill 21E truck, going into service in 1908. When new it ran from conduit but was soon fitted with a trolley pole, then in 1910/11 it was fitted with a lightweight top cover, the trolley pole being removed. This car shows as being withdrawn from passenger service in Jul 1915, then becoming a sand car ("cars taken out of service - class B" list at the back of LCC Vol 1 by E. R. Oakley, which says "118 - delicensed 01.07.15 - note c (sand car)"), although I can find no further reference to this number being converted to a works car (see Colin Withey information below). 🚃 Thanks to 'Colin Withey' for this information:- "Unfortunately, in Vol 1 Ted accepted what the late John Wills had given regarding the surrender of 118's MSC licence but did not link it to Vol 2in which a view taken by the late Frank (DWK) Jones is shown of 118 as a double deck snow-plough. 118 did not survive the post-WW1 clear out of the surviving Class B cars after the selection of those structurally better Class Bs cut-down as snow-brooms.
