#Can make ramen waffles and rice

Was on Pinterest (I know, I do sometimes cheat on Tumblr with the Pretty Plagiarism Hellsite, I'm not proud of it)
Anyway, I saw this and just about threw my phone...
(I didn't throw my phone because I have to use it to sign into the work VPN so I can keep my job)
But I literally saw red for a brief second.
My fridge, freezer, and pantry currently consist of about 20 eggs, half a loaf of bread (gift from my mother), several servings of cooked black beans, some cooked white rice, a bag of frozen peas, about five frozen chicken nuggets, a pound of dry white rice, a small jar of dried lentils, a small jar of split peas, a slightly larger jar of pinto beans, two packets of minute rice, two packets of ramen (another gift from my mother at kiddo's request), several cans of spaghettios, several cans of tomato paste, two tins of tuna, a few packets of instant oatmeal, a tin of hopefully not stale steel cut oats, and some bisquick for pancakes & waffles.
I do have a little less than a pound of flour, and things like sugar, baking soda, baking powder, some spices, some condiment packets, vinegar, and some boullion. Oh, and some coconut oil that's been in the freezer for awhile, meant for making hand cream, but isn't rancid so it's getting used for coating the electric skillet and waffle maker once we'd run out of olive oil and butter.
This is what we'll be cooking with until the next pay day/grocery day in two weeks.
So, I'm not quite at the level of food insecure, but I'm pretty damn broke.
And the pictures on that pin are just nothing like what we're able to eat. Ever. For at least the last 10 years. I don't even remember the last time I was able to buy meat on a regular basis.
Canned chili with meat instead of beans and chicken nuggets are like Special Occasion foods for kiddo and I rarely have any (because I can easily sub beans, kiddo has sensory issues with most beans).
I might get myself a single chicken pot pie from time to time, especially in the winter. But I can't afford to buy like cuts of chicken to make my own. It's too much money to spend at once on just one thing. My $35 grocery shops twice a month have to cover a LOT.
Plus when we moved in (2021), the stove/oven was broken, so we had a scrapper haul it away for the recycling value. So we've been using a toaster oven and small electric skillet since then.
I had a little remorse at my knee-jerk reaction to the cover photo, so I clicked into the blog to see what the actual list was like. Title of the blog is Boss Single Mama, so maybe she knows what she's talking about. Maybe she's been there for real.
Nope. Chicken, beef, ham, almost every dish has meat. Cheeses and other dairy, a variety of vegetables, all things that we get very sparingly and use in small amounts on many meals, not as a main ingredient.
And even thinking back to my childhood it wasn't much different. We shopped at Aldi before it was cool and their selection was far more limited. Most of our meals were rice or pasta based, with meat only appearing as ground beef, tuna, and sometimes bologna.
Hot dogs were a special treat and even those weren't used on a bun. They were cut up in a pasta salad or casserole. Sometimes if we had a few leftover we would eat them the next day fried in a pan and wrapped in bread or a tortilla and that was a good day! We bought the cheap cheese in blocks and had to grate it because Aldi didn't even carry shredded cheese back then.
This is the kind of thing that makes me feel like when most people talk about being broke, or living frugally, or thrifty, or struggle meals, or whatever the trendy phrase is... They're talking about something vastly different than my daily life.
And it just makes me feel crappier about how I'm raising my kiddo, and it seems like there's so few resources to help people who are actually struggling. Whose lives don't look like a Boss Single Mama blog.
Anyway, if you ever feel the same way, you aren't alone. I raise my bowl of bean & tomato sauce rice to you! We are survivors, in spite of it all.

Ahhh, thank you so much for tagging me in such a fun quiz! I am LOVING reading everyone's answers! All of you make me smile so much 😍 @stocious @shinygalaxyperson @energievie 😍
what are some movie / tv quotes that you quote often?
"Keep it secret, keep it safe!" - LOTR (any time I hand anybody anything) "What, like it's hard?" - Legally Blonde A million quotes from Arrested Development, Seinfeld, and Simpsons, because I'm annoying.
what is your favorite flower?
Iris, tulip, daffodil, bleeding hearts.
if you were in avatar: the last airbender what element would you want to bend? earth, fire, water or air?
Water!
what was your first job?
An ice cream shop where I had to sing full length songs about ice cream and also sing every time I got tipped.
what is your favorite breakfast?
Difficult! I'm a breakfast PERSON as a LIFE RULE. I eat breakfast food often more than once a day. Maybe a giant waffle with all three of the fruits. Although my local place does a waffle with bacon and chocolate that I love. But when I say that, I miss meat. You see my problem. Scottish square sausage is the best sausage.
what’s a meal from childhood that you love?
Going fishing with my dad, he'd clean the fish outdoors (or have me scale & gut them), and then he'd fry them til super crisp over the fire, cooking in a pan with masses of butter and salt.
what’s your favorite joke to tell?
My kid is the joke-teller, I'm funny on the fly/in banter.
what’s your favorite animal to see at the zoo?
The reptile & amphibian house!
what’s your go to quick meal to cook / make at home?
Packet ramen that I load up with egg, meat, veggies etc. Chocolate chip pancakes. Omelets with whatever filling is in the fridge.
what’s your go to meal to cook someone to impress them?
Shrimp red curry from scratch, lamb & okra curry (recipe from my Pakistani ex-father-in-law), lasagna.
what’s something you want to do better?
I don't know. I try to be kind to myself and not give myself expectations that may fail, and rather try and work toward a general goal. Like, I would like to continue to learn and grow in handling my PTSD, triggers, and symptoms in a healthy way.
if you’re working do you like your job?
Yup! I love it! I haven't been able to work in 6 months, because of my spine injury, but I'll be back once I heal from surgery. I work at my daughter's grammar school as a recess and lunch monitor, so I get to see her every day, as well as her friends. We have a good time!
do you collect anything? what?
I of course collect all my concert tickets. I collect horror movies, like I have hundreds of horror DVDs, a lot of them obscure (and many of them not). I've been collecting different editions of Anne Rice books since I was 11yrs old.
if you were trapped in a kids tv show, what show would you be okay with being trapped in?
Sailor Moon!
an adults tv show?
God, all the shows I watch & love are all so fucking fraught with Horrors LOL Can I be on Supernatural as long as y'all promise I don't end up like all the other women on the show?
what kind of job did you want as a child?
I wanted to be a garbage lady!!! I wanted to actively help save the environment lol. So, I was always really happy when the garbage people came along to take away the trash and recycling. Later, I wanted to go into zoology. (Didn't do any of those things, I got a scholarship in Theater & Arts lol)
do you follow any sports? what team do you root for?
GLASGOW CELTICS MON THE CELTICS
if you could be any animal what would you be and why?
I've always wanted to be a sea turtle! Drifting and dreaming through the pretty seas and having a million lovely beautiful babies.
if you could be any mythological creature what would you be and why?
Probably like a pan. Y'know, with the goat legs, playing music all day and getting drunk, partying with the other forest fae.
what’s the most obscure thing you’ve had to google for a fanfic you were writing/reading?
I was definitely googling how nuclear power reactors function for Star Trek fic and learned more than I imagined I would lol.
what milkovich do you identify with most?
Ooof, of course Mickey. Growing up terrified of a severely abusive father who would snap at the smallest thing, having an eastern european immigrant family, growing up with anger issues but being excessively soft on the inside, and hey, my parents are chicago born-bred folks (first generation american).
which one are you actually like the most?
ughhhhh. . .Why I gotta decide?! Mickey lol.
what gallagher do you identify with most?
Fiona. She had to deal with Frank the most. My dad is a lot a lot a lot like Frank (narcisstic alcoholic genius level asshole who is happy to abandon their kid & make them feel bad about it instead of taking responsibility), to the point where I will sometimes get triggered by his presence in an episode and have to stop watching for months at a time when I was first watching the show. She's always trying her best to be everything for everyone, usually to the detriment of her own personal identity and happiness. She's absolutely easily the most like me.
which one are you actually like the most?
No, still Fiona lol

Hot sauce works too if you like them hotter (personal favorite is green cholula, but most anything should work). If you don't want to be eating just chicken, or you don't have a lot of it, rice and cheese is very filling and helps pad out the meal. Broccoli also goes pretty well with the chicken (and with cheese), but any frozen vegetables you can get your hands on works just as well.
Spaghetti is also pretty easy and makes a lot. You get some beef, cook it in a pot, and add in your preferred tomato sauce. The pasta is pretty simple, and once it's done you add a bout a half stick of butter to every pound of noodles. If you're feeding others, you can choose to make enough for minimal leftovers, or enough for leftovers the next day.
You can also do mac and cheese and trees using box mac'n'cheese. You cut up some broccoli, add it to your water before turning on the stove, then make the box mac'n'cheese as usual. If you want to add a protein, chop up some sandwich turkey or ham and add it in.
My personal favorite is what I call Desperation Ramen. It's packet ramen, two fried eggs (yolks still runny for the best outcome), and whatever you want to chuck in there. I like to add carrots (before the water boils so they get soft), chili flakes (also before the water boils), and if they're available, leftover chicken and broccoli (which I like to re-fry in about a teaspoon of soy sauce).
Additionally, if you can get boneless chicken thighs, black or kidney beans, and a jar of salsa, you can pop them in a slow/pressure cooker together for a while. Put the result on rice or a tortilla and bam! Chicken chili taco!
And if all else fails, eggs or toaster waffles or frozen burritos or canned ravioli or canned soup are quick, simple, and a far sight better than not eating.
Do any of u have decent recipes that are like 5 ingredients (not including spices) and take 45 mins or less to prepare i gotta stop eating sandwiches for dinner
#my dad was the one who raised us and he didn't like to cook#we were a pretty active bunch and while he was more concerned that we had enough calories to burn he tried to get us to eat healthy too#that plus the time restraint if being a homeschooled family and constantly being on the go meant he got creative#not all the meals use the healthiest ingredients but they're a far sight better than eating nothing#plus for all he didn't like cooking he usually made pretty good food that was easy to make#was mom a better technical cook than him? absolutely#can she make spaghetti that we'll eat? nope

WEEKLY PICKEY EATER SCHOOL MENU:
My son is an extremely picky eater with texture issues and underweight problems. I give him a school lunch and a sack lunch just to give him a wider range of choices. If I don't do it this way he won't eat and will start losing significant amounts of weight and get sick again. I coordinate both breakfasts and lunches so I can be sure he's eating enough, here at home and at school.
This is the what the school is serving for this week.
Monday: I wasn't concerened with breakfast to much because they were having cereal and string cheese. (he won't eat string cheese tho, only cubes of cheddar cheese) But I always have him eat at least a couple bites of something before school. This morning it was a large soft pretzel, he ate some of that. I put the rest of it plus a couple more in his lunch box with some fresh mac and cheese swirls. Mac and cheese is quick and easy to make in the morning with little clean up and the pretzels I bought are frozen ones that you just salt and heat up in microwave. His lunch was something simple today because I knew he would eat the fries the school was serving but not the cheeseburger.
Tuesday: Breakfast will be a waffle and some juice. I have a little waffle maker that makes it in minutes. Clean up for that is really only the bowl the batter was mixed in, silverwear and a plate. His lunch for today will be a little more elaborite because he isn't going to eat any of what they are serving. So it's hard boiled eggs, instant rice and cubes of cheese with some crackers. Instant rice only takes about 5 minutes to make after the water is boiled. I put a little butter and sugar in his and he loves it. I hard boil the eggs in advance so this lunch also takes minimal effort or clean up.
Wednesday: MAMA'S FREE DAY!!!!!
As if these menu's weren't easy and quick enough today is pizza day... So the only thing I have to be concerened about is breakfast. which will be cereal. Far to simple to be real.
Thursday: I don't have to worry about his breakfast today because he will eat the waffles they are serving. I make sure he eats a couple bites of something before he goes so he gets a fruit and grain cereal bar. Depending on how much he eats of it the rest goes in a sandwich bag in his lunch box. His lunch for today will be a breaded chicken fillet sandwich with nothing on it (because he won't eat it otherwise) ramen noodles (You can put these in a thermos so they stay warm all day, cold noodles are kind of gross) and some regular pretzels. These have basically zero clean up and the stove doesn't even have to be turned on.
Friday: Breakfast will be a pancake and hashbrowns. Neither take to long and if you premake the pancakes (or buy frozen ones) and buy the premade potatoe patties it takes even less time. My son hates vegetables and i'm trying to get him to eat more of them so I bought the veggie hashbrown patties. I'm going to give these ones a try today. His lunch is gonna be fish stix, veggie popcorn chicken bites. (Those are all vegetables and he devowers them like they are real chicken nuggets. I also buy the potatoe califlower ones and he doesn't even notice they are vegetables.) a biscuit and some cheese and crackers.

Honestly even without celiac disease or gluten intolerance I would fork over the money for a lot of gluten free products. Barilla’s GF spaghetti and penne pasta are so much better. Less chewy, more appetizing color, the corn and rice flour they use pairs much better with a tomato-meat sauce I make. And rice noodles for ramen also allows more flavor into the noodles themselves, and they’re less gummy and mushy than wheat noodles. King Arthur’s waffle/pancake mix has yielded the fluffiest waffles and pancakes I’ve ever had. Normal wheat pancakes are like cardboard, they’re so flat and thin.
With the except of yeast breads and other pastries, gluten free food is honestly much, much better. It’s not even about health. If you can afford it, I recommend a try.
#maybe it’s because of the limitations that make me more grateful for food#but ever since my diagnosis I’ve been more excited for food like spaghetti or waffles#because they taste so much better than their wheat counterparts#maybe my parents’ cooking sucks and half the time I make the food nowadays#but#¯\_(ツ)_/¯#since you can eat gluten you can still enjoy pastries and bread and fried foods#but these options are way better

plushies — bang chan.
pairing — chan x (fem) reader
genre — fluff.
word count — 2 K
warnings — reader is obsessed with plushies <3
note — this idea is credited to @orphic-chan !! I have her permission to use it, so mei I hope you like this :"( and that I did it justice <333 🥺 I'm fond of this blurb xkxjxjjdjdjdjdjd
“Hey look!”
Your face lights up with the pure joy of a child as you run towards the store, gazing through the glass with heightened excitement. Your husband grins at you, walking to where you’re standing and staring at the display case.
“What is it, princess?”
You ignore the blush that creeps up to your cheeks when you hear that nickname, focusing on the cute wolf plushie that’s sitting neatly on the case. It’s tiny paws hold a heart, although you don’t need to focus on those details — you were sold the moment you’d seen the plushie from far away.
“Can we get that, please please please please please-” You pout with pleading eyes, jumping in your place from excitement. Chan laughs, reaching out to ruffle your hair before shaking his head.
“Don’t you have to wolfchan plushie already?”
“Yeah but… look at this — there can never be enough plushies that can remind me of you, you know.”
“But at this rate, our whole bedroom’s gonna be filled with plushies.” Chan gives you a thoughtful smile. “How many do you have right now — twelve?”
“Fourteen.” You frown sarcastically. “But that’s not the point! It’s so cute, I want it, pleaseeeeee…”
“Y/N, how many plushies, out of the fourteen, do you actually sleep with?”
Your expression droops down, as you’re hit with realisation. You’ve had an obsession for plushies ever since you were little, and that attraction had surely carried into adulthood as well. You couldn’t help it. They were so soft and comfortable to cuddle with — you’d bought most of the fourteen plushies when Chan was away slaving at JYP, and you missed his cuddles dearly. A little Versace Eros and a wolf chan plushie did wonders to your cuddle-deprived soul, to be honest.
It hasn’t even been a year since you and Chan had tied the knot and made it official — but nevertheless, you’ve been enjoying your marriage. Calling Bang Chan your “husband” surely induced a feeling of butterflies fluttering around in your gut — it didn’t help when Chan would call you his wife, his princess, and all those cute nicknames from time to time either.
“Hey, but why do I need a plushie when I have the actual wolf chan beside me, am I right?” You lean in as though to whisper a secret into his ear, and Chan does the same, though he’s internally giggling at how cute you’re being right now. “Plus, don’t tell wolfchan, but your cuddles are better.” you whisper softly, as though not wanting the wolf plushie to hear you.
Chan bursts into a fit of giggles at that, wrapping his arm around your shoulder and squeezing you into a protective hug. “You’re so precious.”
“So can we get the plushie now? Chan squints at your insistence, shaking his head before leaning down to lift you into his arms bridal style — invoking a squeal from you. You tightly grip onto his jacket, eyes going wide as you scan the crowd around you. Thankfully, no one seems to be bothered by Chan’s public display of affection and he starts walking with you clinging onto him.
“I- Are… are you gonna carry me all the way home?” You feel flustered, even though such incidents are more than common in the many years you’ve been with Chan. He was pretty outward and outgoing, never really shying away from doing something to show you just how much he cherished you. He also secretly loves seeing you get surprised and flustered when he did something like what he’s doing right now.
“As long as my hands can take it.” Chan shrugs, shooting you a gentle, pretty smile that takes your breath away before walking home with you in his arms.
The next week, you pull him out of his studio for a break after missing him for too long, and he readily obliges, following in pursuit as you take him to your favorite diner.
“It’s been a while since we’ve eaten here.” Chan says.
“Yeah, can’t wait to eat those waffles again.” You chirp, before turning towards him and putting on a mockingly serious expression. “And you mister husband, are going to eat as much as you can — and no coffee.”
Chan frowns and pouts at you. “But princess-”
“No- no princess. Look at you. You have such dark eyebags again, and you’ve gotten so pale.”
Chan sighs, feeling a warm feeling flow up his chest when you quiz his hand you’re holding in yours gently. “Okay, fine. As long as you’re happy.”
“Hey!” You slap his arm playfully, and Chan’s jaw drops as he giggles along with you. “What was that for?” he asks.
“I didn’t let you be this adorable and sweet right now.”
“I don’t need any permission, remember? I’m your husband, I can make you shy whenever I want.”
You make a defeated face at him, opting to grab the menu cards to hide the heat that’s spreading all over your face.
“By the way, isn’t that my hoodie?”
“It’s my hoodie.” you say as a matter-of-fact, flipping through the pages to see what you could order. The pasta looked delicious—
Chan sighs, reaching over to hold your hand before lifting it up, pointing at the way the sleeves reached up to your knuckles and covered your hand almost completely. You simply smirk at his implication.
“Really?” He asks.
“Well, it was your hoodie. It’s mine now.” You say, sipping some water before realising what you meant. “Uh, um.. Only if you’re comfortable though-”
“Hey, hey.” Chan beams at you, the grip on your hand growing tighter. “I really don’t mind. Plus, you look really cute. But I have to admit, I thought the whole stealing-my-boyfriend’s-hoodies-phase would be over once we were married.”
“Well, it will never, for you. Your hoodies are cozy, plus, they smell like you.”
“Gosh, you’re so adorable.”
“No you are! Look at you — your beautiful brown eyes, your perfect face, your beauty, your smile that always makes me melt, your-”
Chan giggles and covers his face with his palms at the sudden overdose of compliments, feeling his skin burn red. You smile cheekily in victory, pulling his hands away from his face to look at how pretty he was when he was complimented. It was truly a sight to cherish.
“See, I was right. You’re so adorable.”
“Nooooo…” Chan speaks in his tiny voice — the voice that usually comes out when he’s extremely flustered, and only comes out around you. He pats his cheeks to feel how warm they’ve gotten and huffs, glaring at you frivolously. It’s his turn to grab the menu card placed on the side of the table, using it to cover his blush.
“Awhhh, you’re so cuteeee.” You squeal silently, feeling your heart jump out of your chest at the sight in front of you. Your husband being this way was rare, considering his busy schedule most of the time, but whenever he got like this, you always felt like you’d faint from how cute he really was.
“Stoppp,” He dreamily twinkles at the back of the menu card, trying to keep a straight face when you force him to put it down, but failing miserably.
“I’m gonna do this a lot more often if this is the result.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Why don’t you order, hm? I’m hungry.”
“Changing the subject… I wouldn’t allow it usually but since you said you’re hungry I’ll let you get away with it- but hey, I’ve been meaning to ask, what’s that bag for?”
Chan hums, turning to finally remind himself of the bag that sits beside him. “You’ll see.” He winks at you, and you squint, letting it brush off before calling for the waiter to order. Was it a gift for you? You’re delving too deep into it, if he told you that you’d see, than you trust your husband enough to know that you would.
Once your dinner is completely done, you groan in satisfaction. “That pasta was so good.”
“So was that piccata. It’s been a long time since I’ve had something other than packaged ramen and rice. Thank you for bringing me here my love, I really appreciate it.”
“Awh, don’t thank me. I’m here to remind you to take breaks from time to time, you know.” You smile sweetly, cupping his cheek from across the table, and if it weren't for the table obstructing you, you’d have placed a delicate kiss on his lips too. The bustling noise of the diner is fairly irrelevant to you — but that’s the beauty of being with your husband. When he’s there, you seem to be caged in another reality, another dimension where only the two of you exist, and only the two of you enjoy each other’s company.
“I have to. You take such good care of me.” He turns his head to place a soft, lingering kiss onto your palm, and you can’t help but smile brighter (if that’s even possible).
“I only do what I have to, and want to, love. You’ll never have to thank me, because I love you.”
Chan can feel himself blushing again and that, and you coo at the way he averts his eyes down to hide his flustered expression. “Hey, you’re doing that again.”
“Well, didn’t we already finish eating?”
“Yeah, but…” Chan can’t stop smiling, and his heart can’t stop feeling like it’s gonna disintegrate into a thousand butterflies any second. He then looks around, trying to avoid your eyesight and almost certain that you’d be looking at him with that i-made-you-shy-smirk, and his eyes land on the bag beside him. “Hey, I have something for you.”
“For me?” You clutch your chest at the gesture, feeling your insides warm up at the thought of him getting you something for his meet with you after many days. “Awh, you didn’t have to, love.”
Chan chuckles, raising an eyebrow at you. “Pretty sure you’re gonna take that back once you see what’s inside.” He says that to build your excitement, and then hands you the bag, which you happily accept. You close your eyes for a split second to take in how happy, and how calm you feel right now, like everything is in place — and then open the bag to see what’s inside.
And when you see it, everything inside you short circuits.
“Omo, nooo, are you serious?” You pull out the tiny wolf plushie out of the bag. It’s the same as the one you’d seen on your last date (and the one Chan had refused to buy you), except smaller, and therefore, cuter. You gently place your index finger on the wolf’s nose, cooing at how adorable it looked. “Tinie… it’s so small oh lord.”
Chan can’t help but twinkle at how excited you are, especially with such a small gift. Really, he just reminded himself to wake up early and go to the shop the day after that date, and enquired to see if there was a smaller version available. Just that small gift having the ability to induce so much happiness in you, and just one smile from you having the capability to throw him off the edge and make his stomach flutter with a thousand butterflies, at that point, Chan knows he loves you.
“B-but, didn’t you not want to buy this?”
“You seemed to really like it, and besides, who am I to deny spoiling my wife?”
You make a cringy pout at him, and successfully make Chan laugh from your expression. “Hey, now you’re doing that thing where you make me blush.” You cuddle the plushie close to your chest, rocking it back and forth and relishing how small yet soft it felt against you. You then pull away to tug at the heart it holds in front of it. “Wolf Chan has all of my heart.” You say, smiling to yourself in pure bliss.
“All of it?”
You raise an eyebrow. “Okay fine, my cute husband has most of it.”
“Hey, I wanted to be the one to have your heart!” He frowns and mimics your pout.
You snort at that, leaning forward as though to whisper something to your husband, and just like the last date, Chan leans in to listen to you.
“Well, don’t tell wolfchan… but you have all of my heart.”
And after that, your whole room is filled with tiny plushies that your husband spoils you with every time he takes you out on a date.

This is a pretty typical monthly grocery shop for us. To get the most out of our Instacart subscription, I have to buy at least $35 at a time, or there's an extra fee.
Currently already in our pantry:
Peanut butter
Jam
Pancake/waffle mix
Tuna
Potatoes
Butter
Swiss cheese slices
Fajita size tortillas
A few canned soups
Canned tomatoes
Dry beans
Dry rice
A decent variety of sauces, spices, condiments
(mostly purchased from DollarTree, which is more like an every-other-month shop)
I'm hoping the mild weather will let some of our collards start growing early, so I can use those instead of buying cabbage. Fingers crossed for some early chives too, because they make potatoes or ramen so much better! I didn't put in cucumbers or tomatoes last year, but I'm hoping to do that this year, but that's awhile off still.
So what do we do with this?
Basically it's a lot of mixing and matching.
We don't have a stove or oven, but we do have:
Microwave
Toaster oven
Small electric grill
Mini electric skillet
Mini waffle maker
Small slow cooker
Sometimes we can borrow a pressure cooker, air fryer, or larger slow cooker
We use ramen noodles without the flavor pack as the base for a lot of things. Especially because we don't have a stove, ramen noodles are far more microwave-friendly than other types of noodles or pasta, especially for the 11yo who will not monitor for boil-over 😒.
So we do tuna ramen, ramen with egg, I cook the cabbage and mushrooms in our mini electric skillet, just a few servings at a time, or do a larger batch in the slow cooker. Add that cabbage and mushrooms and the frozen peas to anything for flavor and texture.
We do "ramen spaghetti" and use canned tomatoes with seasoning. Sometimes I fry bologna in the little skillet to add to it like pancetta. Or I use an egg, cheese, and balogna to make a poor man's carbonara.
The tortillas become pizzas by adding canned tomatoes, cheese, and bacon bits. Pop it in the toaster oven and it's a perfect one-serving thin crust.
Rice or potatoes can also be the base for lots of good meals. Cabbage plus potatoes plus bologna or bacon bits can go in the slow cooker for a few hours to become something adjacent to colcannon.
I often use rice to bulk up leftovers or add to canned soup to stretch it into multiple meals.
Using some ham boullion, I can make a bean & cabbage soup. Use chicken boullion to make rice & mushroom soup.
Beans & cheese on a tortilla is easy to grab and go. We add seasonings to the canned tomatoes to make salsa.
As a treat we sometimes get tortilla chips for soccer days so we can make nachos with the beans, cheese, canned tomatoes. Sometimes I get canned chili for an easy bump in protein. Kiddo thinks watching soccer should always involve nachos for some reason 😂
We also do a variety of sandwiches, wraps, quesadillas with the bread or tortillas. Egg sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, grilled cheese, pb&j, bologna & cheese. During the summer sometimes we swap hot dogs for the bologna so we can cook them over our outdoor fire pit. We use bread or tortillas instead of buns.
We got the most adorable little waffle maker which makes mini waffles. And we've been all over Pinterest for waffle ideas. You can make an incredibly crispy egg in the waffle maker, with cheese & bacon if you want. Or dessert waffles with a bit of cinnamon and sugar. Or spread pb&j on for extra protein. You can also do lovely crispy hashbrown potatoes in the waffle maker, with or without cheese.

EASY TO MAKE/GET FOODS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE TROUBLE FEEDING THEMSELVES
hello all! as someone who often struggles to get food for themselves, I wanted to have a list on hand for myself to make sure I could have plenty of options when I went into Picky Eater Mode TM haha!
it occurred to me that other people could benefit from this after I posted it in a discord server, so now I’m trying to get it to as many people as possible!
There are 3 levels of “complexity”, but they’re all very simple. Level 1 are foods you don’t need to prepare at all, Level 2 are foods you might need a utensil for or take a few steps to complete, and Level 3 are simple foods that require some work to get done. Figure out what you’re up for as you go!
Without further ado, let’s begin!
LEVEL 0
If you’re feeling nauseous or food repulsed, start here!
• Straight up eat some salt
• Piece of bread
• Tea with lemon
• saltine crackers or salt on bread
these will help calm your stomach!
LEVEL 1
Instant foods: absolutely zero preparation
• crackers (saltines, graham, wheat, etc)
• squeezable applesauce packets
• beef jerky/slim Jim sticks
• dried fruit (eat a little at a time!)
• dry cereal
• nuts
• veggie straws
• pretzels
• chips
• squeezable yogurt
• popsicle
• juice box
• soda
• water
• granola bar
• carrot sticks
• lunch meat
• pop tarts
LEVEL 2
you might need a spoon for this, or a little patience
• applesauce cups, pudding cups
• cereal with milk
• spoonful of peanut butter (or any sort of nut butter substitute)
• premade or canned soup
• chocolate milk
• juice
• fruits you don’t need to wash, like bananas or oranges
• toast
• chips and salsa/guacamole
• lunchables
• hashbrowns
• toaster waffles
LEVEL 3
get your chef hats on!
• ramen/instant noodle soups
• eggs (omelette, scrambled, etc)
• apples, berries, carrots, tossed salads
• pasta, mac’n’cheese
• microwave sandwiches/ramen/food cups
• sandwiches! pb+j, ham and cheese, blt, just plain lunch meat
• minute rice
• oatmeal
• instant mashed potatoes
• instant pudding
• frozen pizza
• chicken nuggets, oven French fries, fish sticks, etc
• smoothie
And that’s that!!!
I will be adding more to the list as time goes on, so feel free to check back often!
Remember, feeding yourself is important, even if it’s a tiny bit, or if it’s something “unhealthy”.
your body needs calories and nutrients to work, and all foods have those! whatever you can get is excellent!
take care of yourselves, and I’m rooting for you!

i love that i am a stubborn brat, literally xD. i don’t give up on anything easily, persistent, and i usually stick to my word (i promised my mum i wouldn’t have panda express after she had food poisoning from there. its been 8-9 years now :3 not really crazy but my family really likes eating a lot). i also love that once i put my mind toward something, no matter how long it will take, i'll get it done. i like that i can turn a basic google slides into something aesthetic, or almost anything digital into something nice (i lack artistic ability on paper though.. sigh). i like that people usually trust me with their secrets or rants because i do not tell anyone ever except for my cat.
i have way too many different genres that i listen to so i’ll try to put some: no fun, always forever, jealous, pretty cvnt (its gets loud if you plan on listening to it:s), omomo punk, 千本桜, everybody wants to rule the world

i dont have a lot of favorite books but my favorite mangas are: noragami, monthly girls: nozaki kun, aot, tokyo ghoul
i dont watch movies often, but i have seen more shows (mostly anime, rip): ajin demi-human, manifest, the way of the househusband, all of us are dead, saiki k, death note, hyouka, dont toy with me miss nagatoro
hopefully i did this right and that you’re able to click the links!!! it goes to spotify. and congrats again for 500 followers!!!! <3 <3
hHI SUKI!! thank you for submitting for my event !! making these was a ton of fun. also, i appreciate sm you being so specific - it helped a lot :) and i hope you like this. i made sure to do Armin too 🥰
oh! and your music taste rocks btw🥲

⭐︎Song⭐︎
I may have overthought (overthink-ed?) song choice a lot, but considering the music you like (which - those songs u linked, i listened to all of them and saved 'everybody wants to rule the world'. i love pretty cvnt and jealous lol) ... i decided on:
Lovers Rock by TV girl
Very chill, a little electronic - it's a super romantic-sounding song, but it also comes across as pretty shy, which i think fits Levi perfectly + by the vibes you give off. i think it fits v well.

Atticus is an anonymous Canadian poet - this excerpt very fitting for Levi.

⭐︎Song⭐︎
To Binge by Gorillaz
one of my favorite songs by Gorillaz .. has a simple melody, but in a whimisical way i feel really matches armin. in my mind he's such a hopeless romantic.
and tbh? if u don't listen to Gorllaz already i highly recommend, especially since you like Joji !
⭐︎Quote⭐︎
For the most part, Stephen King is no good for romance (obviously) but i read one of his novels a few months ago with an awesome romance (sub)plot and :((

Cheap and Easy Vegan Meals
Vegan food doesn’t have to be expensive, complicated, or time consuming. It can be affordable, easy, and delicious. No crazy ingredients, no long recipes, no animals harmed.
- Peanut butter sandwich: Go a little crazy and put some banana slices on your sandwich, it’s delicious! Eat it with fruit and/or chips. Yum!
- Grits: I like mine seasoned with vegan butter and black pepper. Serve it up with some peanut butter toast, waffles, or fruit!
- Oatmeal: You can put all kinds of things in it: maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, black pepper, fruit, nuts, non-dairy chocolate chips, raisins, etc. Don’t like oatmeal? Put some raw oats in a bowl, sprinkle in some cinnamon and sugar, mix in some peanut butter and vanilla extract, and bake it in the oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes. Bam! Healthy homemade cereal!
- Pasta: You could sauté some mushrooms, spinach, and/or any other vegetables you like and mix it in marinara sauce. Don’t feel like chopping a bunch of vegetables or just don’t have the time? That’s okay! There are plenty of sauces and noodles already full of veggies you can get right off the shelf! If you have some nutritional yeast, sprinkle it on top like parmesan cheese! Tomato sauce not your thing? A little bit of olive oil, dried Italian herbs and red pepper flakes make a tasty meal! Cool off the noodles, throw in some raw veggies, and soak everything in salad dressing in the fridge for about half an hour for an easy pasta salad!
- Wraps: Whether it’s fajitas, tacos, burritos, or breakfast wraps, wraps are simple to make and the possibilities are endless! Just cook up some beans, tofu, tempeh and/or vegetables in yummy spices of your choice and put them in a wrap! You could also add extra toppings, such as hot sauce, salsa, rice, fresh spinach or arugula, tomatoes and onions, etc. Raw veggie wraps are delicious, too, especially with hummus!
- Beans and rice: Easy and delicious. You want to know what’s good? Mexican rice and black beans with sautéed spinach and taco sauce.
- Stir-fry: Fry or bake some tofu and sauté some vegetables and make a sauce with soy sauce, garlic and a little sugar. It’s so good! Serve with some rice and get your tummy nice and full! Another good sauce to make is garlic, soy sauce, onion powder, sugar and sriracha. Mix it all together on the stove on medium-low heat, combine about 1/2 Tbsp cornstarch with about 5 Tbsp water until cornstarch dissolved, add it to the sauce and let it thicken. Instead of rice, you can also use noodles or couscous! For some natural sweetness, add pineapple to your stir-fry!
- Noodles: Instant ramen is one of the cheapest foods you can buy. Unfortunately, many flavors and brands use animal products. A couple of affordable, technically vegan ramen noodle cups are Nissin Cup Noodles Very Veggie Soy Sauce flavor and Nissin Top Ramen Soy Sauce flavor. You can also buy ramen noodles and season them yourself. Cook them in water or vegetable broth/stock, add spices and vegetables, and you have yourself a warm meal. For those of you who like things spicy, allow me to share with you the way I cook noodles: Boil some water with red pepper flakes, black pepper, sesame seed oil, hot sauce (Frank’s is the best), kimchi and jarred jalapeño slices. Cook the noodles according to package directions and, once done, add chili paste, sriracha and soy sauce. Stir until well mixed and enjoy the burn!
- Potatoes: Baked potatoes, boiled potatoes, mashed potatoes, microwaved potatoes, fried potatoes. Potatoes cubed, seasoned and baked. Potatoes and onions cooked on the stove or in the oven. Potatoes with hot sauce, sriracha, or barbecue sauce. Potato fritters, fries, tots, soup. Potatoes.
- Salads: Raw veggies, leafy greens, cooked lentils or chickpeas, salad dressing (either homemade or store-bought) or a little olive oil, lemon juice and vinegar of choice. Boom, salad!

Convention Foods
Alternate title:
Holy shit I’m worried about all of you, please eat at cons!
A friendly guide to travel-ready foods and snacks so y’all don’t pass out, I’m serious I saw 3 people wheeled past by EMS this weekend at katsucon ‘cause y’all were dehydrated and didn’t eat anything but noodles for 3 days.
You can avoid being a dehydrated, starving husk of a cosplayer at 3 and 4-day conventions by doing some basic meal planning and prep before you leave. Eat like royalty and share your bounty with the masses.
You can seriously bring your own herbs and spices. You can bring knives and flatware if you pack it in a normal suitcase and not a carry-on! Stop living on ramen, for fuck’s sake!!!!
PART 1 - Foods that require ZERO heat sources at the convention, and you can pack it in your suitcase or carry-on through the airport.
Flavors for your water. I get it, sometimes water gets boring. Bring some flavor squirts, Gatorade powders, or citrus juice to throw into the water so you CHUG it. Don’t be that guy who passes out from dehydration and has to pay for an ambulance. Bring tea bags! You can cold-steep tea.
Snack and meal bars. Trail mix. Duh.
Fresh whole Fruit - Apples, Banana, mangos, avocados, pears, any citrus, can all be stored a room temperature and are hardy enough to throw in a suitcase and not worry.
Dried fruit, too.
Chopped Veggies - Bell Peppers, Carrots, Cabbage, Cucumber, Celery, all fine at room temp.
Nut butters, like almond butter, peanut butter, can make an apple or green pepper taste awesome. You can also eat it with a spoon.
Jelly doesn’t have to be kept in the fridge, as long as you close the lid. Uber to a nearby grocer or gas station and pick up some bread and you’ve got sandwiches!
Rice - You’re weebs, you know what Rice Balls are. Just make a shitload of them, stuff ‘em with something from the list above, and as long as they’re kept in a sealed container, you can eat them for days. Hell, you’re even on-brand, and get to learn to make those suckers
Hard-boiled egg (with shell still on) is fine for several days at room temp.
Cheese. Most cheese is perfectly fine at room temp for a couple days.
Oatmeal can be cooked in room temperature water overnight.
Dried meats like Jerky.
Single-serve cream cheese.
PART 2 - Stuff that needs a microwave, and heat-friendly plates/bowls
Fuckin’ bring your own if you have to. Electric kettles are cheap and lightweight, and travel easy. Remember seasonings, like salt, pepper, garlic, oregano, soy sauce, etc.
Baked Potatoes. Microwave the shit out of potatoes, slap some butter and cheese and spices on it, and you’ve got a home-cooked meal right there.
Squash - If you chop it up before you leave for the hotel, you can cover a bowl and nuke the hell out of it with water and eat with butter and whatever herbs/spices you like.
Corn on the Cob - stuff it in a plastic bag with a bit of water, nuke it. Fast and easy.
Pasta, Rice, Beans, Corn.
Microwave some canned SAUCE for your pasta, and get Alfredo sauce, Marinara, whatever you want. Get gormet up in this shit and make your own pasta sauce to bring in a tupperware.
Hot dogs, Bacon, Cheesy nachos
Oatmeal - Isn’t this how most americans eat oatmeal anyway? Nuke it baybee.
Eggs - scrambled, poached, whatever. You can even throw some cheese, pre-chopped onions and green peppers in there for an omelette.
You can even Microwave Chicken breast by putting it in microwave-safe tupperware with water halfway up the chicken, then covering it with the lid. Nuke it for 4-5 minutes per breast, then an extra minute at the end to be sure. Use whatever seasonings you like.
Microwave some Steak - Pat it dry, season both sides, slap it on a microwave safe dish for 3 minutes, flip over, and nuke for another 3-4 minutes.
Cooked Onions, Bell Peppers, Cabbage, - Have them pre-chopped, slather with butter or oil and seasonings, nuke for 5-8 minutes.
Technically you can microwave fish, too, but I highly advise against it.
Bro, you can make your own SUSHI if you just use cream cheese, veggies, and your microwave rice + chicken.
Part 3 - Gourmet motherfuckers.
People who bring shit like an electric griddle, waffle iron, a chopping mat and actual cooking tools with them when traveling. Super easy if you have the packing space.
I have literally cooked brownies and omelettes on a waffle iron. Once you have a steady heat source, you’re cooking with FIRE~ Eat whatever you want, you’re the queen here.
Clear the counter space and have a food party.
