Choose your own adventure part 2

You smile and say ‘hello’. What an incredibly polite rabbit you have met. The bunny smiles back, which shows her two buck teeth. It looks a little silly, but you can tell she’s very pleased to meet you and probably has something very important to tell you.

              “I’m Mable.” The bunny tells you, “I’m so pleased to meet you! I’m from a place called Safe haven 13. I’m here on behalf of them to ask you if you’d like to visit our place.”

              “well, that’s very nice of you Mable.” You respond, “I’ve never heard of it myself, could explain exactly what it is or where it is.”

              “Well, obviously as you can guess from the name it’s a safe place.” She holds her ear as if she was a human twirling her hair, “and as the world gets harder and harder for everyone, we offer a respite from it to humans from all over the world who need help with life.”

              You think to your self that nearly most people in the world could use a place like that right now. You’re not sure if you want to go, part of you wonders if you’ve fallen asleep and you’re dreaming. Of course, if you are dreaming there’s nor harm in going. It would probably be a pleasant experience.

              “But why me?” you ask wondering why you’re so special to deserve this offer.

              “Well,” Mable pauses then continues, “We, the administrators have hear really good things about you, such as you’re pets both living and dead, you’re ancestors who are just really worried about you, and we know you’re friends and family are concerned. I know that may sound weird to you, but a lot of people care about you, even the ones that you think are gone and they’ve asked us to help you out. You see Safe Haven is a magically built place, so we are able to offer help that you just can’t get in the mundane world.”

              Well magic does explain a lot you think. Part of you is overwhelmed with happiness that so many people thought of you. You’ve often thought no one cared anymore. Still part of you is unsure. You’ve been let down a lot lately. Not just by those you know, or by society it’s self, but the whole world seems to be against you. The negative part of your brain is nagging at you to not trust this, to not believe. That maybe you’re just having a hallucination, maybe someone drugged your drink. You take a deep breath and say.

so I'm gonna give this option a week, because the weekend is coming up and I want to plan a head for this. I'm thinking of adding some pictures and I want to give people enough time to vote. I'll reblog it several times because I know you can loose track of stuff.

Whumper-Turned-Caretaker CYOA 27

You chose to take Whumpee on an outing.

“Whumpee,” you start, “I’d like to take you outside. And not just to the backyard. I was thinking a walk around the neighborhood. Can I trust you not to…get me in trouble?” They acted trustworthy before, when they kept quiet with your friend over, so you believe you can trust them again. But this is a new level of freedom and opportunity, so you’d like to make sure.

They nod. “Yes,” they say, voice soft but not weak.

“And are you ready for that?”

“Yes,” they say again. “I would really like that.”

“Okay. Let’s go, shall we?”

You bring them outside—out the front this time, where there’s sidewalk leading away from the house and no tall fence enclosure to keep the two of you hidden.

Whumpee gawks a little. It’s understandable; they haven’t seen a space this open in a long time.

You let them pick a direction, and start walking down the block, side by side. Whumpee enjoys the fresh air, the sunlight, and the birds that occasionally fly by or sing from the trees. You enjoy seeing their renewed wonder at a world that you’ve taken for granted but that they’ve spent too long cooped up away from.

They don’t shout or make a break for it. It seems you’ve succeeded in building up a trust that goes both ways. You make it back home without any incidents.

Whumpee looks a little regretful that it’s over. You promise them they’ll have the chance to stroll the streets again before too long, which cheers them up and earns you one of those smiles you’ve learned to value from them.

What you don’t tell them is that you’re not sure whether that chance will be with you again.

It’s time to make a choice. Whumpee has come a long way. As far as you’re able to tell, they’ve gotten through the biggest parts of the recovery you decided to help them with when you first brought them out of the basement. Whumpee is about ready to go back to whatever life they had before. Still, you can't help but wonder if…maybe they didn't have much to go back to. No one came looking for them in all the time you’ve had them, after all.

Have you ever read an RPG that completely changed the way you think about RPGs or how you play them? If so, which one(s)?

I've talked a little bit about this in the past, but come with me, anon, on a journey through RPGs.

Imagine, if you will, a teenaged LT being invited to play a "game like dungeons and dragons" only to find out it was some dude's really sexist attempt at 3.5.

And then it's 5 years later and some friends in college finally manage to convince you that the game they're starting (Pathfinder) will be fun, you should play. And that's your first real ttrpg experience, and it's a campaign that lasts years, longer than your relationship at that time, and it becomes the most important part of your life for a while, and then you make the jump to 5e which isn't that different, and meantime you've been playing some side games, some shorter stuff, and the math isn't great and yeah the game is held together with homebrew but that's just part of the fun, isn't it? it's just part of how you like to play, writing stuff for this system, and in fact you like it so much that you end up publishing/kickstarting a whole 5e sci fi game, and isn't that neat?

but then 5e really starts to lose favor, or maybe you branching out into indie games just exposes you to a lot more people who hate it, even some people who talk about people who play and write for it like they're stupid or ignorant or part of the corporate missteps made by WotC or like it's unfathomable that people would come to this hobby from the most popular roleplaying game in the world, and that kind of sucks! but you're seeing the holes in the game more and more and you're realizing there's games you've been playing that are also ttrpgs that you never thought of that way, but it seems so obvious in retrospect!

and you start writing for these other games, and you back some kickstarters and find some really awesome discord communities and games that inspire you to write things on your own for the first time in a long time, and you start trying to fill in the gaps in your knowledge so you can keep up with people having academic conversations about games, using terms you don't understand and referencing creators and games and publishers and controversies you've never heard of, and you almost burn out so many times because it's A LOT even if you love it, and reminding yourself that you're not in competition with anyone for creating or knowledge or anything like that becomes part of the daily routine, and you don't have to know everything to keep creating and keep learning and keep playing - that's right, it's about playing! don't forget that! and then you're here.

you're here, and games are so fun and so cool and they're not all going to stick in your soul but so many do, so many teach you something or refresh you in unexpected ways and it's like that all the time.

You chose: The door

Alrighty, y'all chose to risk it all and go get your man. Let's see how that goes!

You make the split-second decision to run for the door.

Onthyes was a reason you'd decided to keep fighting. You can't just leave him behind.

Slamming the cabin door behind you you look around the deck frantically. It's well into the middle of the night now, possibly even the early morning. You can hear the sound of crewmen working the night chatting nearby, but luckily none of them catch sight of you.

You don't know where exactly you'll find Onthyes, but you don't want to spend another second just standing outside the captain's cabin. You take a moment to push a nearby crate against the door, knowing that it will only stall Erxik for a few minutes at best if he wakes up.

You're moving quickly across the deck when you turn a sharp corner and run face first into a broad chest.

"Ventis! Thank the gods!" Onthyes whispers as he steadies you. He's still fully dressed, with a sword at his side and a bag slung over his shoulder. "I heard thunder and the night is clear and you were alone with Erxik so I figured you might be in danger." Then he studies your face closer in the dim light, tilting your chin up with a gentle hand. A dark look crosses his features. "He hurt you."

You glance away, not quite able to meet his eyes. "I am alright," you mutter, but your voice is strained and hoarse from being choked earlier.

"No you're not. I should have come for you sooner. I shouldn't have let him take you away."

"Onthyes," you say firmly.

Onthyes goes quiet, staring down at you with wide eyes.

Then, you get on your tip-toes and kiss him.

It's a short kiss. You don't have time to savor it, knowing that you have to get moving before Erxik escapes his cabin and comes for you.

When you pull away Onthyes's face is bright red and he's smiling like an idiot. "What was that for?" he asks breathlessly.

You just scoff and grab him by his arm, dragging him along with you as you make your way towards the boats. You almost miss being chained together.

You run up to the nearest dinghy and start untying its ropes. There are other pirates working within eyesight, but they don't seem to have caught on to your current situation.

"Help me," you bark at Onthyes as you prepare to swing it over the ship's edge. "Hurry."

Onthyes rushes to help and soon you have the boat suspended over the dark water. He climbs in first and starts getting everything situated.

A strong hand clamps down on your shoulder before you can join Onthyes.

"What's going on here?"

You look up to find Tinny standing over you, her face set into a hard glare. Her voice catches the attention of the other pirates, some of whom drop their jobs and start to head over to you.

Bodyswap Whump CYOA Part 1

Since I’ve ended my ‘rescued’ series, I’d like to jump on the CYOA whump thing that some other writers are doing! This is the main intro, the actual whumpy part will be in the next part, promise!

I got the idea of doing a CYOA by @snakebites-and-ink but I know others have been doing it as well, so here I am!

Part 2

You feel like you’ve been hit by a train.

The figure in the glass mimics your movements, mocking your shock, hands hovered over your mouth. All you can do is stare at it, wondering who this person is that you’re staring at.

Because it sure as hell isn’t you.

They have soft features that meld together less than gently, as if this person has spent their entire life with their nose scrunched in the air. The shocked expression staring back at you looks eery on their face. It doesn’t look like anything could surprise them, or catch them off guard. Very unlike you at this very moment.

You reach up to touch your hair, watching as the mirror copies you, because of course it is - it’s a goddamn mirror! Your hand lands on a mop of messy hair that doesn’t belong to you, on a scalp that isn’t yours, in a body that you don’t belong in! 

With shaking hands you walk closer to the mirror and turn it towards the wall. Maybe if you don’t have to look at it, it doesn’t exist. Then you turn around, facing the rest of the room. It’s neat and bland, white walls and dark wood and black and gray decor.

The room itself is big, but mostly empty. It had its necessities; bed, desk, dresser, shelves, vanity. The computer that sat atop the desk looked expensive and new, unused. The utter spotlessness of the room was eerie, it seemed unlived in, soulless. The only thing that looked the least bit normal was the bed you woke in is the only thing disturbed in the still room, the comforter half on the floor from your panic.

At least you hadn’t been kidnapped, right?

Maybe in that situation you would have some idea of what to do, but you can’t just leave - the police will think you’re crazy, and where are you even? You could be miles away from your home, in a different state, a different country, even.

Try to calm down. Baby steps, right? If you just get yourself grounded, maybe you can figure out what's going on - or at least stop panicking about it.

Another sweep of the room and you see a phone on the nightstand, you see some clothes folded on the dresser to your right, and three different doors, all closed. One is probably to the bathroom, and the other is probably to a closet.
