Someone contributed to my project?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wasn't even expecting someone to contribute, what?
I made an issue, that was really just targeted towadrs myself because I use Issues as like the project's to-do list, so I wasn't expecting someone to be like "Oh I can do this if you want" LIKE BRO WHAT I mean yes please?!
The issue was to make a dark and light mode for the to-do app, and he did it perfectly! He so cool, cool dude alert! I was going to do it eventually when I learn more React because I was confused how to translate the Javascript code, that I had in my head, into React...
Anyhoo, he did an amazing job, so erm like checkout what he did: LINK 🐸
(Also I made an issue for someone to make a 'How To Contribute' .md file, so if you're good with your html/markdown and writing skills, you should like... checkout that too? 💗)

Hi, For five months I've been trying to find a friend to create a campaign for me. I was even able to create a campaign through my friend Brooke Cole so that the campaign would be reliable and the donation would be protected for everyone. My children are living under bombardment in the war 😭 Please consider them your children and help them 🙏🙏 Stand by my side to save and protect my children. They haven't gone to school for a year 🙏😢😢 Donate to save my children's lives 🍉 🙏🇵🇸 We live in very difficult and desperate circumstances, and what is worst of all is that the fear that haunts me increases day by day. Help me provide them with basic life needs
I am not able to help you but I will try to boost you ❤️
@charcharbinks333 please boost

was reading some of the things @thistlecatfics linked here
(... long story)
and this essay was such an interesting read
There is a lot of emphasis in “social justice” culture on learning, [a 'learning'] framed not as curiosity, collaboration, innovation, or creativity, but as the memorization and recitation of the correct “takes.” This passive relationship to learning promoted and enforced in “social justice” culture stifles critical and creative thinking. People passively consume ideas [and] feel like they are responsible political actors because they have memorized the current popular “takes” in “social justice” culture and even feel confident “letting people know.” Any thinkers who come to different conclusions or even ask open ended questions are treated with suspicion or are outright condemned. Learning isn’t about asking open ended questions in this framework, and it certainly isn’t about trying to come to our own conclusions about complex social and political questions. […] Learning isn’t about becoming responsible for our own capacity to think deeply and carefully. It’s about accepting what we are told. [...] A huge amount of what people now consider to be political action is actually censorship, the promoting of conformity, and the punishment of dissident thinking.
Discourse is serious, engaged thinking, discussion, and debate. Discourse is the flow of ideas between intellectuals, scholars, artists, and engaged citizens. Discourse is not a series of “correct takes.” Discourse does not attempt to shut down dissenting views but sees disagreement as inherently generative. Discourse happens when people feel entitled to disagree, when people feel responsible for their own thinking, when people feel like they have something specific and unique to offer to the flow of ideas. Discourse happens when people are creatively and critically engaged, when they feel curious and excited about ideas, when they feel encouraged and allowed to contribute. Because we no longer engage in discourse, and instead practice repeating simple “takes”, educating each other about these “takes”, and slandering people who challenge these “takes”, we feel very threatened by innovative, dissident, creative, or unusual thinking. Many of us no longer know how to relate to ideas beyond passively “learning” the “right” ones or condemning the “wrong” ones as “violent.” We don’t know how to think deeply and at length, how to listen carefully and with curiosity, how to pay sustained attention, how to wonder, or how to ask generative questions. We are all definitely capable of developing these skills, and in fact, I believe our retreat from these practices contributes to our deeply felt sense of alienation and dissatisfaction with our lives. Our despair is in part derived from our lack of participation.

I interrupt my regular programing to ask for some help for one of my closest friends. I've been helping her out when I can but I definitely can't afford to cover all her medical and living costs.
She has multiple things going on health wise, including:
Endometriosis that has spread unto bowels, kidney, liver, lungs
Chronic nerve degeneration and chronic pain
Ruptured ACL + damage to PCL and MCL
Brainstem cyst
Breast lump (soon to be surgically removed)
Plus chronic mental health concerns
She has high ongoing medical costs and due to her poor health as well as frequent hospital admissions she is unable to have regular income. It's also been surprisingly difficult to access disability payments. I worry so much about her, as this is taking such a constant toll on her due to stress, and being unable to afford basic needs such as food or medication.
Obviously, please don't give if you are unable to for your own finances, but if you are able to help out we would really appreciate it. Feel free to share this around also if you are able.

Help!
The picrew is almost done. While I go cry over the clothes and then speed through all the pride flags and put down finishing touches... I have no drive to do more tattoos. The top 3 here are from two twitter artists.
If you have a cool idea for a recom tattoo design (that would obviously fit what we see of the body) then please feel free to send it over in a reblog. It has to be in a png file with no background. If you want perfection, you can put it over this file while you draw it. It's 600x600 :
Tumblr media
If I include it in the picrew I'll credit you!

Contribution is the very thread that weaves together the fabric of any society.
It is more than a simple act of giving; it's a commitment to shared growth and the betterment of all.
Within each community, individuals bring their unique resources, efforts, and ideas to the table.
These are the vital sparks that ignite change, foster development, and nurture a collective spirit.
When we talk about contribution, we often think of grand gestures and significant acts of philanthropy. But it’s the everyday contributions, small yet consistent, that build the foundation of a thriving society.
Whether it’s volunteering at a local shelter, mentoring a student, or simply sharing knowledge with a neighbor, every act of contribution counts.
In essence, contribution is about empowerment. It’s about each person playing a part in shaping the community's destiny.
It creates a sense of ownership and belonging, where every individual knows that they have a role in the collective narrative.
This engagement not only enhances the social fabric but also enriches the individual, offering a sense of purpose and satisfaction that comes from knowing one has made a difference.
As members of a community, our contributions can take many forms—economic, cultural, educational, or emotional support.
Each form serves as a cornerstone of society’s edifice, ensuring that its structure is strong, resilient, and inclusive.
By contributing, we not only uphold the values of our society but also set a precedent for future generations, instilling in them the importance of community involvement and the enduring impact of collective efforts.
Ultimately, the beauty of contribution lies in its reciprocity. As we give, so do we receive. We create a circle of support that uplifts, educates, and empowers, and through this cycle, a society not only survives but thrives. In contributing, we are all shareholders of a future we are actively shaping—a future built on the pillars of mutual respect, cooperation, and shared prosperity.

2023 JUNE 10 Saturday
"Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood."

this bespectacled teenage nerd is a speck in the universe who perceives and achieves, and therefore, matters.
The best part about the Vlogbrothers, other than being ultimate lifesavers, is that not only do they make you sit down and think, but they’ve also given so much to the world.
John’s books, Hank’s music, for several years they’ve been raising money for charities that really need the help. They are a light in the world and they are slowly decreasing world suck.
They inspire me to be a better person.
- Danielle Howard (thisissomerandomshiz.tumblr)
_____________________________________________________________________
The Vlogbrothers have made me open up to new interests and allowed me to see the world in a new light. Also Hank and John are just awesome. The Nerdfighter community has also made me meet more friends and connect with my current ones.
- Molly
_____________________________________________________________________
John and Hank have helped me visualize the world around me as it really is: complex.
“Just because” is never a sufficient answer. Across fields and areas of science, literature, history, and politics, I’ve found answers to questions I never thought or dared to ask, and it didn’t end there. The videos I’ve watched and continue to watch inspire me to think deeply about things and people I encounter every day. That helps me recognize the blessings and imperfections of this wonderful, flawed world, and my own blessings and imperfections as well.
But, I don’t just sit around and ponder on every little thing.
More than that, this new-found perception gets me to move.
Nerdfighteria inspires me to think, write, create, affirm, collaborate, donate, and live in a way that decreases world suck.
Through the Nerdfighters, I have witnessed the power and significance of ideas.
The community motivates me to analyze the books and movies I love, to have the confidence join my school newspaper, to post my gifsets and edits regardless of the number of notes I think they’d get, to participate in non-government organizations even just by opening a new tab or clicking a button or buying a bracelet, to remember to tell my family and friends that I love them, to see the best side of others, to actively do something meaningful, and to remember to be awesome--and I do these not just because they make me happy.
If I’ve learned anything from Nerdfighteria, it’s that this bespectacled teenage nerd is a speck in the universe who perceives and achieves, and therefore, matters.
