Well here is part two of the books that the DBD characters would read:
First we have Jenny, I think she would read horror classics like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein or Dracula, she would probably enjoy black and white movies. I also think she read Harry Potter or Maze Runner and likes to complain about the mistakes in the movies (and about JK, because we can't stand a transphobe in this house). Caliban and the Witch by Silvia Federici would be an interesting read for her too.
Now, the night nurse would probably get bored waiting for the kids between cases so she would start reading to learn about humans. I feel like she's going to find "those who leave Omelas" and she will be moved and angry by the suffering of the children, and how the book shows some aspects of today's society, she would start reading more books of this type and she would come across Almond. Niko would recommend Miss Peregrine's home and the Peculiar Children because it would would remind him of her, and Charlie would say yes just because no one can say no to Niko.
The cat king, Just like with music, I feel like he would read a lot of books about cats or with catslike Alice's adventures in Wonderland or the black cat by Poe, I mean, the chesire cat reminds me of him. She and her cat by Makoto and Naruki He would read it after what Edwin told him and he would identify with that feeling of loneliness. As for books not related to cats, I would say the Shadowhunters saga, I'm the only one who finds it similar to Magnus?.The Alchemist by Michael Scott, It is also a book that he would read, also Bastet the goddess of cats is a character in this book.
Finally, Monty, I obviously must have recommendations with stars or astros, First the star boy by Chris Pueyo A gay boy's journey of self-discovery as he finds love and faces the world's hatred and prejudices. Narnia (? simply because it has magic, talking animals and the white witch reminds me of Esther. Another book would be what the stars tell by Osied Kelsey It is a book that tells us about the different stars, constellations and other interesting facts. I think if he had had more time to enjoy his life/adolescence he would like reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and learn about what teenagers feel or experience.
Okay, here is the final part of book recommendations, once again I hate you Netflix and please renew DBD.

Sylvanian Storyteller, also known as Star Performers or Sound Parties, are large versions of classic sylvanian characters that move in response to sound! There were at least 10 different ones released through the 90s, and I believe they came with cassettes to "read along" to. The bear ones blink and move their mouth, like they're talking 💕 others can move their ears and some even dance!
This is the Evergreen Grey Bear mother, standing next to Kelsey Sweetwater, an adult Evergreen Grey Bear (she would be the same size as the mother figure, I just don't have her to compare 🤣) 💕

Move aside Chosen multiverse, The Courtneyverse has only just begun! We not only have Classic Courtney, we have Kelsey, we have Canadian Courtney (Kris), we have her 15 identical sisters, and of course COURTNEY FREAKIN MILLER!
lmfao It's building up to rival The Chosen Multiverse for sure.

Shybaby Is Living Rent Free Shybaby knows how to make the most out of a bad situation, and her latest single "For Rent" is no exception. The raucous alter ego of classically trained viola player and singer-songwriter Grace Eire, Shybaby has always been about learning to let things go and having the freedom to be as ridiculous, dramatic or emotional as she wants. "I tend to turn to jokes, laughter, or radical acceptance when something bad is happening," the artist explains. "I catch myself saying 'it is what it is' a whole lot... up until it reaches a breaking point and I’m able to make something like this out of the whole thing."Related | Shybaby Is Anything But ShyFull of thrashing guitars and punk attitude, "For Rent" sees Shybaby injecting a bit of humor into what was otherwise "pretty dark feelings and experiences." Like any good cathartic headbanger, the song was born out of a toxic situationship with an emotionally unavailable ex that ended up leaving her feeling lonely and unlovable. "He said that he considered himself 'for rent,' since he had been hurt badly before and never wanted to care about anyone ever again (the drama), while in the next breath, he’d tell me how much he cared about me," Shybaby tells PAPER. "I love how the abruptness and ridiculousness of the bridge reflects that. It’s less about him, and more about how I have always gone about letting myself be cared for (or not cared for)."The single arrives alongside a visual filmed in Eire's empty apartment the day after she moved out because the rent had been hiked by 40%. Making the best out of yet another objectively shitty situation, Shybaby shines in the video as a pop of color in the grey vacant apartment, rolling around on the floor in a fit of unhinged mania. Shybaby likens the video to a sort of bottle episode "or a moving portrait of that what Shybaby is," less about wallowing in your own misfortune and more about remaining defiant in the face of hardship."Not everything has to be so heavy-handed, serious, or expensive; Shybaby is a place to take an intrusive thought and run with it, to give myself no notes and to edit very sparingly," Eire explains of the overall ethos of the project. "It’s a diary entry but not the kind where I’m feeling necessarily very flowery with my words — more of the kind that’s so furiously scratched that it dents the paper and the rounds of the letters turn sharp, and you can’t even really read it later. It’s a cathartic release so dramatic that you have to laugh a little bit about it when you look back on it. It’s fun and loud, simple, but definitely not lacking symbolism if you care enough to look hard enough for it... which you definitely don’t need to do!"Shybaby goes on to add: "Being seen and heard has always been hard for me (and I think for a lot of people!). Speaking up is impossible. When I can finally think of what I need to say, the words and the physical air often get caught in my throat. I’ve always been so self-aware of existing in a human body and have struggled with feeding it, taking care of it and admitting that I’m not totally invincible."In the same way that "For Rent" reclaims some agency over her own trauma, Shybaby functions as an outlet for Eire to validate and work through whatever life throws at her and have fun doing it at the same time. "Creating the visuals and allowing myself to be deeply vulnerable and bare, but seen, has become just as important to this persona as the lyrics, the walls of sound, the fun hooks and the opportunity to be heard and hopefully felt. I do all my own styling and makeup and have so much love and appreciation for everyone who is down to collaborate and contribute to creative direction to make these things with me. (This time, one of my best friends, Kelsey Wagner.)"Ultimately, Eire says: "Shybaby is my favorite Grace, she really does not care what people will think." Letting out a delighted squeal as he scoops her up to bring her back into the room she enthusiastically kisses him back, hands resting on his shoulders as she wraps her legs around his waist. Not wanting the moment to end prematurely, this wasn’t just valentines day this was also the day her best friend had been born, so the main priority to Kelsey was making sure it exceeded his expectations in every single way she could manage. As she’s set down with kisses peppering her face she feels the familiar blush of delight flooding her cheeks squirming with how thrilled she was just to be in the same vicinity as him, anytime they were apart feeling like something was missing from her. An arm, a leg, no something far more vital. She was missing part of her heart, but right now he was there in front of her and the blonde couldn’t be more thrilled. Her heart rate picks up considerably as he takes in her tattoo with his keen eyes, wondering if he’ll work out what it is that makes this particular one so special but he didn’t seem to be thus far. “I did, because I found a better story. A much better story I want to be able to remember for the rest of my life.” Wanting to blurt out exactly why this specific tattoo was so important but also needing to make sure she told him exactly right. Unable to decide how before she was scooped up again, spinning around with a sparkling laugh, as she was set down on top of her on the sofa she dipped her head so she can can press her lips against his once more. Feeling his hands against her waist, bare skin against her own, god it was intoxicating. If he was a drug then Kelsey didn’t want to ever be clean because any consequence of Keys was worth it and then some. “Hey, happy birthday my love.” She whispered as her hair falling either side of her face created curtains around them blocking them off from the rest of the world, their own little cocoon of love as she gazed into his soft eyes with a swell of love bursting in her chest. “Happy birthday to the greatest person to ever have been born onto the planet we call earth, that is a cesspit of so much negative, but now it has you it does nothing but shine brightly. You make every day better.” Pulling back so she can brush her finger across his bottom lip with a gentle expression, her own being tugged between her teeth.
Once she’d pulled back to let him look once more at the tattoo that was clearly visible under the scraps of material she was passing off as a top, her eyes took him in hungrily to see if she could spot any kind of recognition in the forms of the fingers or hands, but counting on nothing. It was of course so subtle. She’d weaved things that made them intrinsically them together with the classic design so that it wouldn’t be obvious to any but those privy what the special meaning behind the tattoo was, so they could keep it as theirs. “Delicate…maybe….a bit…” She murmured, hand moving to rest over his as it traced the arm, moving it across to the other hand smoothly. “And this hand…look at it, it’s the hand of someone who knows how to play music, how to turn words and sounds into works of art. It’s soft too but it’s strong.” Eyes flicking up to look at his face, still feeling the flutter of her heart in her chest not pausing for even a moment.
“I designed the tattoo myself. I drew it, using real people as the muse.” Drip feeding the information so as not to overwhelm him too much all in one go - after all getting a tattoo of your partners hand so soon into the relationship might be too far for many people. Hopefully Keys was not one of those people. All Kelsey wanted was to see that winning smile spread across his lips once more the way she’d seen it do so many times, lighting up his eyes, making the corners of them crinkle as his glasses slipped down his nose. If that sight was edible it would be the most coveted dish in the world. “This hand on the left is my hand, you see how the wrist goes in slightly there like mine does? I used a photo from last weekend in LA that you took of me, worked on it on the plane home. You were napping like a cute little puppy.” Ducking to press her lips against his softly, a whisper of a kiss, the hairs on her arms standing up with the prickle of desire. “Then the other hand, I used a photo I took inspiration from a photo I found online, on a very specific instagram actually. It’s probably someone you know - I’m surprised you don’t recognise it since you’re tracing the lines with the exact hand that provided the inspiration.” Sitting up to deduce if he was putting two and two together. Understanding that the hands on her ribs belonged to the two of them. “The hands are reaching out for each other for the rest of eternity because no matter how far the gap feels between them they know they only need to reach out and they’ll find exactly who they’re looking for. It covers my scar because that is part of the old me, but you? You are the part of the new me. We. It is our hands. We are the story now. Do you like it?” This was only one of the many gifts she’d gotten for him today but it was the one she was most anticipating giving him after all.

kelsey-robinson:
There is was again, that all familiar bubbling feeling in Kelsey’s stomach, like jumping beans trying to escape as she shakily applied pale pink eyeliner trying not to smudge it too badly. Valentines day was usually the kind of holiday that passed her by without so much as a second thought, Galentines day on the other hand? Well that had been more her speed for the last couple of years. Buying or drawing things for her best friends to make sure they knew how loved they were, but this year was different. The weekend with Keys in LA had somewhat cemented their relationship into something more ‘formal’ if that word could even be used when it came to the two of them, since they existed in her eyes on their own plane of relationship definition. Who told their boyfriend they loved them for the first time at the side of their sister’s grave? Kelsey Robinson did apparently. As strange as that was it felt intrinsically right to her - for them. Even without trying they’d managed to be different from the rest of the world in a whole other level, making their own way to where they needed to be.
Tonight though she was quite literally concealing a huge secret from him under her shirt. As soon as they’d returned from LA she’d gone the next day to the tattoo parlour to put into action her plan for his Valentines day gift. Some would call it stupid, foolish to get something etched onto her body that was a signifier of a relationship that no one could be certain would last, but Kelsey didn’t care about that. Firstly she couldn’t see an instance where the pair failed, it was a foreign concept really, but secondly she saw nothing wrong with a permanent reminder of everything she and Keys shared. Even if they crashed and burned that wouldn’t erase the happy times where she felt like she was walking on air through showers of stars while holding his hand. It wouldn’t take away the memory of his soft brown eyes gazing at her when her own fluttered open in the morning, or how his lips brushing against the mole on her cheek always sent a ripple of shivers down her spine making her lips stretch out into a perfectly calm smile. None of those things would change, and she wanted a reminder of them whenever she looked at herself.
Having spent hours working on the design of The Creation of Adam hands but interchanged with replications of her own and Keys’ she’d finally managed to get it perfectly placed across the scarring under her left breast. Even now as she looked in the mirror one last time it tingled making its presence known as it finished healing. At a point now where it looked good instead of like a freshly tattooed scabby mess - that wouldn’t have been particularly romantic to show him after all. There was part of her that knew whatever happened it would be exactly the evening she and Keys deserved because somehow they seemed to have a way of always making sure things fell into place, even by dumb luck, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to do everything she could to nudge things in that direction. The knock on her front door was the signal he’d arrived, Kelsey had asked if they could just do something at home - her home - specifically so she could show him her special rather private gift for him. After all she was in a rather revealing crop top to give easy access to the newly tattooed area and it probably wasn’t something she should really be wearing to a public space. It was actually more like a bra than anything. On top of that the weekend at the Grammy awards had been so extravagant with Keys spending so much money on her that she couldn’t bare the idea of him doing that all over again so quickly. Making sure her shoes were on properly even as she was making her way to the door the blonde did a kind of skipping hop to get there, yanking it open with a grin that might as well be made of fireworks, the delight at seeing him evident from space. Without saying anything her hands went behind his neck so she could pull her boyfriend in for a kiss, pressing herself up against him. “Happy Valentines day.” She whispered once she finally pulled away enough to speak. @ofmckeys

👾
His birthday falling on valentines day always seemed like nothing but a curse. The day he was born being dedicated to reminding him year after year that he had no one to celebrate much of anything with seemed like a fitting slight on top of the rest of the knives life seemed to throw at him from the moment he was born. It’s why, once he had the means, he spent every year on his birthday doing some sort of volunteering. It was one of the things that actually made him happy to do, especially when he got to work with kids and animals. Entertaining kids with crafts and teaching them arts and instruments, or bathing and bottle feeding animals, wasn’t something he reserved exclusively for his birthday, even though it was the day he looked forward to doing it most. It replaced the sense of having nowhere to be with empathy and purpose. It was the moments in between the rest of the chaos in his life he clung too. But today, for the first time, he actually had a valentine. Someone of his very own to share his birthday with. The most special person in the world, he was entirely convinced, at that.
The occasion was so special an overwhelming to him, he’d spent the day rather quietly trying to get his present together. He’d spent the past year leaving presents and letters outside her door anonymously, but this was completely different. That was when he believed it impossible for the two of them to ever be together to the degree that he’d settled for remaining unknown, as long as it meant he could let her know how loved she was, even if from afar. Now here she was swinging the door open for him as he stands excited and nervous. Just the sound of her feet padding excitedly to the door causes him to smile and when she opens it, the breath leaves his lungs and without thinking, his arms wrap around her slender frame. Lifting her gently from the ground as he embraces and kisses her, he takes a few steps into the place, gently kicking the door closed behind him. This is better than anything he could have ever imagined about not only being in love, but having someone to share it with at all. Just the feeling of her in his arms is the closest thing to complete he already knows he’ll ever feel.
Keys giggles into the kiss, lips slide happily along hers as he walks, carries her further into the apartment. When he sets her down and she looks up at him, he can’t help but lean forward again, scattering kisses across her face as he mumbles in return. “Happy valentines day, starshine.” Pulling back a little more, just to shrug the backpack from his shoulders, he finally notices what she’s wearing. The crop top far more daring than her usual affair. In fact his lips part as his jaw falls slightly open at the sight of her breasts half hanging out her shirt. Something that almost causes him to grin mischievously in response at the thought that she’d have put something like that on for him, until he notices the design on her ribcage. At first his brow furrows, a look of concern thinking she may have hurt herself as he bends immediately to take a closer look. When he realizes it’s another tattoo, there’s immediate relief and a slight smile again. He loves tracing and kissing the details of her others already, the excitement at seeing it at first is based on that and hearing her tell the story about what it means and how it came to be immediately bubble forth, without even knowing a lick of context. He’s just happy for her, knowing how much the art on her body means to her. “You got this one over one of your stories…” Still smiling, he observes softly as he reaches out and delicately traces a thumb over the drawing. Keys bends and squints tryingtrying to take in the details for a few moments before making a gruff noise and wrapping large hands around her waist, scooping her up with a twirl and a laugh before playfully carrying her over to the couch where they can sit and he can get a better look.
He sets her down after he sits back on the couch so that she’s straddling his lap before he gets back to work, work, taking in the art on her skin.  Pushing the glasses up the bridge of his nose, it still doesn’t register to him that the hands are theirs. Far beyond him to even comprehend she’d do something like that although he does notice the difference from the original work. “This hand is different. It’s softer. More del-i-cate.” He over annunciates the word because he’s always loved that one in particular and applying it here on kelsey makes it mean even more. His fingers trace along the arm he can tell is more feminine than the work it’s based on.

“I’m—I’m fine. I’ve had worse.” for Ziggy and whoever you want
The blood soiled the clothes he'd been wearing for less than two weeks as easy as anyone else.  Since he'd been fifteen and drawn into the sentry ranks with almost no choice in the matter other than surrender or death, this was something he'd gotten used to. Waiting forever to get new or barely used clothing, only to have it damaged or ruined just after from his inevitably poor luck. Someone actually being there to care about Ziggy in the aftermath of having been inflicted with pain and injury was an almost entirely new experience, though. * Ziggy had been undergoing a lot of new experiences--same as every last one of the other sentries--since the Ranger Slayer ascended Drakkon's throne and set to work making an effort to make the world better. Though, maybe he had the other sentries beat, just the tiniest bit? Even his closest friends and mentors in their small, cloistered group of those not considered heartless, who actually cared about the people out in the world they were supposed to protect, didn't have a superior officer (a Red Sentry CAPTAIN) that was summoned by the Ranger Slayer herself into the throne room the same day as the transfer of power after all the speeches; that allowed Ziggy to tag along because, "Well, everyone will find out by tomorrow, anyway. You might as well put that motor mouth to good use." Ziggy had been under the wing of a goddamn Coinless spy. A General among the people that had been fighting the good fight since before Ziggy was born; who had been hugged by the last vestiges of Angel Grove's living Rangers (Dillon and Scott had to hold him along his shoulders when Ziggy had told them in the barracks that night, he was bouncing in his bed hard enough with such a big smile that it was like he was two years old again without a basic understanding of social constraints; Summer and Flynn just tried not to look too smug that all of them were getting free meals from their own Captains T.J. and Kelsey over having won a bet they'd all made about their favorite Red Sentry) and took his helmet off in front of Ziggy for the first time to introduce himself, not as Captain Williams, but as Eugene Skullovitch, "Skull for short, though. I think you've earned it, kid." Then Ziggy had been introduced to his Captain's best friend in the whole world (Summer had squeaked and almost shouted that she knew who Ziggy was talking about when he described him, "That was Bulk, Ziggy! THE Bulk!") and gotten the biggest hug in his whole life while being doted on by the vast bear of a man speaking of him in glowing terms that had Ziggy limp as a kitten blushing like mad, "Oh, you're the Ziggy I've heard so much about! Skull talks all about you on the wireless, but I think he might have been joking just a tiny bit when he said you're seventeen. Be honest, you're more like fifteen, right? All this hair and wiry muscle, you have to have been pulling his leg?" "Bulk," the Ranger Slayer, who insisted on being called Kim (jesus-fucking-christ) by anyone Skull called friend (which really just meant trust-worthy or not a complete asshole) among the ranks, had put a stop Bulk's mother henning with a gentle tap on the man's shoulder, "Not everyone is built like we were in the old days. I'm sure he'll get more meat on his bones as things improve." It had been awkward after, Ziggy walking with his Captain back to their rooms to find Ziggy's group of friends and the two other Captains; with all of them just gaping at the man's face like they'd never get the chance again. The days that followed with the rebuilding and the Coinless in the halls and taking care of the general populace that had to be told of the change in power and the defeat of Rita. It was tiring, but Ziggy had gotten to spend ten times as much time with his friends and just...not being an enforcer for Scorpina or Drakkon or the like, that he actually allowed himself to relax into the way things were going.  He'd signed up for night classes that some of the Coinless and retiring sentries were teaching. He'd been granted two days a week where he
didn't have to dress in his Black Sentry fatigues, could sleep in, could enjoy himself. Ziggy should have known that not all the new changes were appreciated by everyone. There were sentries, after all, who had been totally okay with the way things were with Scorpina, who were afraid of Drakkon like everyone else, but had been prepared to live their lives entirely by the pathological psychopath's way. There were those that had found Skull's being a spy to be an insult or actual betrayal. Those kinds of people always noticed that they could never address their issues with who they thought was the source of their anger; they never would have confronted Skull, even alone, even on his days off where he went out in leather jackets and jeans and could still beat anyone who bothered him into the ground, no problem.  So, Ziggy really shouldn't have been surprised to being decked the one day he'd gone out alone to check out some of the new apartments and prefabs he and his...friends? Could they really be called just that when they all kissed and touched more than any other groups Ziggy had ever seen?...were thinking of moving into since the barracks had become a little too impersonal to them. And, maybe, he was less surprised about the beating, than he was about how many people were doing it in tandem, with such efficiency as to render him unconscious within the first five minutes. * Yeah... Ziggy was more surprised to wake up, not in some filthy alley that had once been a desolate place to have battles with the walking corpses Rita Repulsa had walking around taking out everyone they could, but on a couch that could almost pass as new. His wiry frame tucked into blankets like some precious thing, head on a pillow that was so fucking soft it was unreal, the smell of the place a familiar comfort without knowing just where he was... The pain of his arm being swabbed with medical ointment. "OW OW OW!" "Ah, calm down you big baby," Skull practically grumbled like a much put-upon old dog answering the whines of a puppy that had stepped in a puddle and scared itself, "It hurts because it's working. This is actually good medicine and not that watered down crap the medics try and conserve." "How would you know that," Ziggy questioned with as much fizzy sass he could muster with a handprint around his neck, one eye changing color around the edges from the sucker punch that laid him out, countless cuts and scrapes, and a possible concussion that Dillon was gonna be pissed about when he arrived at Skull's apartment in the next hour when he got off his sentry shift, "You steal it out of the medical wing?" "I grow my own herbs, actually. Having a background in Classics means I'm good at recollecting things that might actually be useful when I need them. They might not be fully up to code, but they usually work anyway." Callused fingers dipped into a glass jar and traced the bruising Skull had already gone over, adding a warm, clear liquid that clung to the scrapes and coloring that his skipping stone, underwater eyes kept wandering back to; the feeling cool as mint and the smell mixing in with whatever Skull was boiling in the fireplace on a chain--not entirely unpleasant, but it still had Ziggy squirming in discomfort of being doted on in any capacity. "I'm..." Ziggy started again, trying to ignore the itching behind the eyes when Skull moved into checking the marks around his neck, spider-like and delicate and kinder still than he had any right to be with someone he'd had to defend without being asked, hauled back to his own home and been made to feed and water and treat better than someone like Ziggy deserved. (He'd done so much for Ziggy already, from the moment the Red Sentry Captain had kept him from getting a thrashing by a Yellow Sentry when Ziggy had screwed up one time too many and mouthed off; from the man getting him transferred into Dillon's squadron under supervision from Commander Park with Skull checking in every couple of days; from bailing Ziggy and his friends and ordinary people out of fires
and floods and death holes the cursed spirits of Repulsa found them in too many times to count.)  "Yes?" Skull prompted, pausing to wipe his hands on a wet cloth and wrangle the kettle out of the fire. He poured something that smelled delicious into an adorable little leaf and butterfly embossed teacup on a saucer with two little sticks of shortbread on the side. "I'm fine," Ziggy finally got out as he took the offering, taking a sip of something spicy and warm before trying to continue through the stopping point in his throat, "I've had worse." Skull took a huge swig from his own cup like it was nothing more than a shot and looked directly at the boy he'd made his charge, regardless of whether it was a good idea at the time, "And that last bit is exactly why I know you're not fine." The young man tried, he really tried to contest that, but his eyes were wet now, and Skull raised his hand to stall anything his famous motor mouth could pour out into the air between them. "But you will be."

Year One
a/n: coming up with this idea completely threw me off working the other day and i have no regrets. this has a little bit of everything in it. you like friends to lover? it’s in here. you like very large hockey players with tiny children? it’s in here. you like very soft smuttiness? it’s in here. you like cutesy dates? they’re in here. there’s a little bit of something for everyone in this one, so I hope you find a part you like!
warnings: swearing, mild smutty-sort of action, drinking, and a ton of cavity causing sweetness.
January
This party was definitely going to require another drink. It’s not that you weren’t having fun; it’s that all of your friends were having quite a lot of fun. You snuck away from your drunkest friend and headed to the kitchen to refill your cup. You sighed when you glanced over the counter holding your variously terrible options.
“Okay, what combination looks like it would taste the least like paint thinner,” you mumbled to yourself.
“Definitely the Strawberry Lemonade Svedka and the grape Fanta. It sounds weird but it turned out pretty good honestly.”
You turned toward the voice and you smiled a little to yourself. He was positively gorgeous. Strong shoulders, muscled tattooed arms, sharp jawline covered in stubble, and a smile that drew you in. He came over towards you and you noticed how much he dwarfed you and it made your mind wander.
“Is it?” you asked with a raise of your eyebrow.
“Look, your other possible combinations are objectively terrible. Like who buys birthday cake vodka?” he asked, his face scrunching at the idea. “I know it’s a birthday party but, yeah, no.”
You laughed and he smiled softly at you.
“I’m Pierre-Luc,” he told you.
“That’s kind of long,” you added after telling him your name. “Got any nicknames available?”
He laughed and scrunched his nose up as he looked at you, I play hockey actually so I’ve got lots of things for you to chose from if you want.”
You grabbed the flavored vodka and the grape soda per his recommendations and poured them into your cup. You tried it and nodded softly. It wasn’t anywhere near as bad as you had imagined it would be. You grabbed the edge of the counter and hauled yourself up, letting your feet dangle against the cabinets.
“Hit me with ‘em and I’ll pick the best one you should exclusively use from here on out,” you said confidently, not sure if that confidence was you or the alcohol talking.
“Pretty sure one nickname picked out by a girl is going to get me chirped to no end,” Pierre-Luc sighed, but it was playful. His free hand rubbed the back of his neck as he spoke, giving you a glimpse of the tattoos on the underside of his arm.
“But I’m a hot girl,” you took a sip of your drink as he raised an eyebrow at you, a smirk forming on his face. “Oh don’t even. You’ve stared at my boobs at least six times since I met you three minutes ago. You’re averaging at least two looks a minute.”
A wide smile broke out across his face as he raised his hands in the air, feigning innocence. You took a sip of your drink as you watched him, as clearly as he could manage, rake his eyes up and down your body, pausing as various points that particularly interested him. You were relishing in the attention and he certainly didn’t mind giving it.
“Guilty as charged,” he said, his smile shifting from humorous to cocky. “So, I think you were about to judge the shit out of my name some more?”
It would have made for a fun night if not for someone running into the kitchen as soon as he finished his sentence.
“Hey, you’re came here with that Kelsey right?” the guy said, pointing at you. “Because she just threw up like, everywhere in the bathroom and-”
“And gotta go handle that,” you mumbled, sliding off the counter begrudgingly. “Uh, I guess I’ll see you around?”
It came out more like a question than you’d meant it to, and Pierre-Luc nodded as he stepped aside and cleared the way for you.
“Yeah, no, definitely. I’ll see you around.”
February
Pierre-Luc had been easy to find on Instagram after the party. It was nice to confirm that your drunk mind was not remembering him hotter than he was, but you didn’t want to make the first move so you stopped yourself short of hitting the follow button on his page. If he wanted to talk to you, he’d come to you, you decided. However, that was almost four weeks ago. It was February now and you let it go, chalking it another temporary drunk connection and moving on. This is until you agreed to go ice skating a the local outdoor rink with Kelsey and a few other friends. He was already there when you arrived.
Everyone exchanged pleasantries and names. Kelsey was introducing you to the people you didn’t know yet, but you barely remembered anyone because you were anxious to talk to Pierre-Luc again. You tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. He spun around to face you. A soft smile pulled up the corners of his mouth when he saw you and you instantly realized you hadn’t practicing saying anything beyond hello.
“Hey.”
Well, now you were flying unplanned and anxious, a dangerous combination that put the threat level of saying something that was way too much extremely high.
“Hi there,” he replied, his smile growing as he spoke. “How are you?”
Thank god he’d apparently thought at least one step further than you because it gave you something to respond to and something to ask him in return. He answered that he was busy since it was hockey season and all.
“And yet, you’re here to skate on your day off?” you asked him.
He shrugged and laughed a little, “Can’t get away from it, I guess. I don’t mind. I love skating.”
“Might have to hit you up for a few pointers because I’m definitely super rusty and let’s be honest, there really isn’t much skill under the rust,” you joked with him.
“I can help,” Pierre-Luc cut in instantly, just a tad too eagerly, so he tried to smooth it over with a classic, “I mean, if you want me to.”
“I need all the help I can get,” you huffed as you sat down on the bench to start lacing up your skates.
You struggled to tighten the laces, giving them a pull with all your might as Pierre-Luc laced up both of his skates with practiced ease. You watched him tie off his second skate before you’d managed to get halfway through your first. Whatever he was doing was not at all applicable to you.
“That’s definitely half of your problem right there,” he teased you as he sat down next to you. “Your skates are way too loose.”
“Well, strong hockey man, then fix it,” you sighed, letting the laces fall from your hands.
“Not sure we’re gonna stick with that nickname,” he laughed.
He stood up only to kneel down in front of you. Your mind practically ran to the imagine of his head between your legs for something else and you had to shove the thought aside as he picked up the laces to properly tie your skates. Where you struggled, he had no issues at all. Did you pretend your left skate was looser than your right after he asked you if it did? Yes. Was the left skate looser? You didn’t even have enough experience to really answer the question, but you really liked watching his muscles tense as he pulled the laces tighter.
“Thanks, Luc,” you said as he stood up, finally satisfied with his workmanship.
“We’re going with Luc, eh? Pretty bland nickname choice.” He offered you his hand to help pull you to your feet. “You gonna be able to walk to the rink there, shaky?”
“Sometimes the most obvious choice is the best choice,” you replied, “and yes, I’m fine. Thanks for your abundant concern.”
You couldn’t see him, but you could feel Luc’s hand hovering near the small of your back in case you did fall even though you were sure you wouldn’t. You stepped out on the ice, your feet sliding a bit out from under you with the transition, but you managed to stay on your feet. You heard Luc slide onto the ice after you. He pivoted until he was in front of you, skating backwards in order to get face to face with you. You weren’t exactly looking at him though. Your eyes were trained on your skates.
“If you cut me off, I will fall over,” you warned him. You were entirely too focused on staying upright to pay much attention to him. “I learned how to go forward and sort of turn. Stopping was never in my skill set.”
“Sounds like you need a lesson from a master,” Luc joked, earning a glare from you. “Come on. It’s not that hard. I’ll show you. Trust me?”
March
“Jesus,” you muttered to yourself as some of your beer spilled on your hand. Luc had slammed some guy from the other team into the boards in front of you. “Are hockey games always this violent?”
“Have you really never been to a game before this?” Kelsey asked. “Well, free tickets right against the glass from your hot hockey player boyfriend is a hell of a way to be introduced to a live hockey game.
You shook your now beer-covered hand off and scrunched your nose up at Kelsey before telling her, “He’s not my boyfriend and you know that. We just talk.”
“Oh come on, the way he looks at you!”
She practically shouted that sentence. One of her biggest flaws as a friend after her inability to keep down more than four drinks was that she could not control the volume of her voice under any circumstance. At least this time, the venue meant she wasn’t entirely too loud for the crowd.
“You know he’s not, Kels,” you told her after taking a sip of your beer. “I don’t even know if he would want that. Literally all we do is talk and Snapchat.”
“Shirtless snaps post-practice?” she asked you, a hopeful look in her eyes. You shook your head, so she tried again, “Lots of red heart and or red heart eyes emojis?”
“Kels, stop,” you laughed. “I think it was just a thing at the party when we were drunk. It’s fine. Not everything has to be a thing. We can just be friends. I’m good with that.”
“Whatever.”
She waved you off, but at least the conversation was over. You weren’t trying to get your hopes up with Luc. You saw the way every girl in every room he went into looked at him and he was a really great guy to top it all off, but you’d been in this sort of situation before. You knew better than to try to wear your heart on your sleeve here.
That didn’t stop your heart from pounding in your chest when you saw him post-game. The Blue Jackets had won 4-3, so Luc’s smile was on full display as he found you after the post-game interviews. His suit fit him so well, darting in perfectly at his waist, making him look impossibly broader somehow. The first few buttons on his white dress shirt were undone and his tie was loosely hanging around his neck.
Kelsey had gotten in your head. Now the only thing you could think about as you looked at him was how badly you wanted to grab the collar of his shirt and pull his mouth down to meet yours.
“Ready to head out?” he asked you. He motioned down the hallway and you followed his lead, heading towards the blue double doors ahead. “I believe you promised me that I could pick the movie tonight if we won?”
“A promise is a promise,” you sighed, “even though you’re going to pick something god awful.”
He smiled wider at you before asking, “Did you enjoy the game?”
“Yeah, actually. I had a great time. Kelsey ditched five minutes before the end. That guy she met at the bar last weekend wanted to grab drinks or something. i try not to ask too many questions I don’t want to know the answers to,” you told him. “Thanks for inviting me, Luc.”
“Thanks for coming,” he replied as you stepped through the doors and into the cool air on your way to his car.
It was cold for March. Not all that cold for Columbus in March, but cold for most people’s definition of March. You still had your coat on, but thankfully it wasn’t quite gloves and hat and scarf weather anymore. You could see Luc’s breath faintly as you walked toward his car, but at least he world wasn’t quite as frosty as it had been last month on the outdoor rink with him. Something told you that your feelings for him were soon going to be inevitable, but for now his friendship was what you needed.
April
Luc’s empty beer glass slammed down on the bar next to you. He’d emptied it faster than you thought he even could.
“Fuck, I hate losing,” he hissed through his teeth. “Fucking game seven.”
You almost opened your mouth to say that at least they’d made it to the playoffs unlike sixteen other teams, but the first round exit was clearly hitting him hard. Instead, you made eye contact with the bartender, bringing him over towards you and Luc. Luckily, this particular bartender had been eyeing you since you walked in and it was definitely possible you were using it to get faster service. At least you were tipping him well.
“Yeah, can you just keep those coming for my friend here?” you asked nicely, putting on your best smile for him as you patted Luc on the back.
“Sure,” he said, smiling back you brightly. “And what would you like next?”
“Can I try the new sour you guys just made?” you asked, still keeping that smile dialed up as he poured Luc’s next beer and then handed it to him.
“Of course. I’ll be right back with that.”
The bartender slid past you a few moments layer, dropping your drink off with a thousand-watt smile, before moving on to the next customer. Luc looked at you with a soft smirk on his face and a slightly judgmental look in his eyes. He shook his head at you and clicked his tongue at you a few times as he brought his fresh beer to his lips for a few massive gulps from the glass.
“That’s not nice what you’d doing to that man,” he told you.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” You took a sip of your drink to try and hide the shameful look on your face. “Just drink your beer and be happy.”
Luc laughed, the first time you’d heard a genuine laugh since the loss the other night before telling you, “It’s really not fair when you do that since you have zero intention of giving him your number.”
“You don’t know how I feel,” you retorted, even though Luc was correct.
“Oh, please. I know I’m right.” Luc set down his beer as he leaned in close to you. “He’s not your type.”
“And how do you know what my type is?”
You cocked a brow at him as you took a sip of your drink. Luc nodded softly as one of his large hands fidgeted with his glass. His cheeks, forever your indicator of his nerves, turned a light shade of pink.
“I mean, I’m pretty sure I’m your type.” His voice was steady and strong but, his hand was sliding against the slick glass between his palms and his cheeks were pink verging on red. “Something at the party was telling me if Kelsey hadn’t puked everywhere maybe the night might have ended differently?”
It was a question, but he already knew the answer to it. You tilted your head to the side though, deciding to play along.
“What do you mean, Luc?”
Your voice was soft and just a little curious, trying to force him into telling you exactly what he meant by that. Your heart was pounding as all you could think was maybe he was feeling what you had started to feel. Luc’s eyes turned to you. He was studying your face, trying to find some sign of what you were feeling. His eyes landed on your lips and your breath hitched in your throat.
“Fuck it.”
Luc leaned in quickly and you titled you head up so he could kiss you easily. He smiled down at you as one of his hands cupped one side of your face. He knew you wanted this too. His lips were inches from yours now and you could only smell his cologne and hear your heart beating in your ears as you were being enveloped by him.
“PL!”
Someone shouting made him yank away from you before his lips could meet yours. He dropped his hand from your face and his jaw tensed as he turned to look at Jonesy who you discovered was the culprit who ruined this moment
“Oh shit,” Jonesy said between closed teeth. “Uh, my bad, man. But Boone is super fucked up and I need some help getting him home and you’re the only one still here.”
Luc sighed and ran a hand over his face as he pull himself back to reality. He knocked back the last dregs of beer in this glass before he leaned back and grabbed his wallet out of his pocket. He thumbed through until he pulled out cash and handed it to you.
“Can you close my tab? Also, can you text me when you and Kelsey get home safe?” He dropped some cash on the bar next to you. “That should cover my tab and yours and a ride home.
Normally, you would’ve pushed the cash back into his hands, but the look in his eyes was telling you should take it because he wasn’t going to take no for an answer tonight.
“Yeah, yeah, no problem.”
Luc slid off the stool to his feet and went to head in Jonesy’s direction. He paused and turned on his heels to come back to you.
“Would you like go out with me sometime? Like a real date?”
May
“I did not think I’d be as bad at this as I am,” you sighed as you tried again to putt the ball into the hole on the course.
Luc managed to get two under par on the same hole and you were about ready to throw your stick in the pond with frustration. You didn’t know you could be as bad at something as you apparently were at mini golf.
“Relax,” Luc’s large hands gripped your shoulders, applying pressure in an effort to make you calm down that only made you more tense. “Maybe this just isn’t your thing?”
“It’s very clear this isn’t my thing, Luc,” you informed him as you hit your club against the toe of your sneaker. “I hate things I’m not good at.”
“Oh, competitive are we?” He took the first stroke on this hole, getting dangerously close to a hole-in-one and you knew you were about to, like every other hole, get absolutely destroyed. The score card had been accidentally dropped into the pong by hole seven and you clearly didn’t know how it happened. “Too bad I’m more competitive than you.”
“Did you just try to start an argument over which one of us was more competitive?” You tried to verbally snipe back at him as you hit the ball, but you nearly hit it clean out the source and settle for losing this round entirely. “Must be a low moment for you to have to brag about being more competitive than a girl half your size while playing mini golf.”
He reached for you, one of his large hands finding one of your hips and pulling you into him. You felt so comfortable against his chest that he reminded you of a certain feeling you couldn’t quite place, kind of like being at home. Luc kissed the top of your head, bring you back to reality.
“You missed,” you told him as you looked up at him, meeting his soft eyes with yours.
He gave you a confused look before it was replaced with a look of understanding and he verbally added, “Oh, I owe you from the bar a few weeks ago. I see.”
“You were about to do something, I think anyway, and then you had. totake Boone home and then you shipped your own ass off to Quebec,” you fake whined, pressing your palms against his chest, which somehow felt better under your hands than you could have imagined.
“Hey, hey, I apologize,” he smiled down at you, “and I came back for you, right? That’s gotta count for something. Even if I’m destroying you at mini golf.”
“Couldn’t have just taken me to dinner?” you joked, your smile coating each word you spoke with a playful edge.
“Too boring for a girl this far out of my league,” Luc replied. He reached a hand up to tuck your hair behind your ear, letting the strands tangle in his fingers before he spoke again, “I’m going to try and kiss you again now, just so you’re aware. And no one is going to interrupt me this time.”
The entire world disappeared the moment his lips found yours for the first time. This moment was created and inhabited solely by the two of you. No one else could break in even if they tried. His mouth moved against yours and you felt like you were on fire. Everywhere his hands ghosted over felt like he lit it ablaze, leaving a trail of need and destruction in his wake. You were putty in his hands and he loved it so much. You wanted him and he was more than happy to meet you in the middle on a surprising cool May afternoon on a mini golf course just outside of Columbus, Ohio. You never thought that’s where the rest of your life would begin, but you couldn’t deny that it had.
June
How Luc already had sunburn tingeing the tops of his ears and the tip of his nose less than twenty minutes into being outside was beyond your understanding and you had to tease him for being one of the palest people you’d ever seen. Maybe asking him to come the an outdoor arts festival and not bringing sunscreen for him was a mistake.
“How?” you asked, gesturing to his nose.
“This is me,” he smiled at you. “Take me or leave me, sunburn and all.”
“I think I’ll keep you?”
You said it like a question, but a smile broke out across your face before you’d even finished your sentence. A matching one formed on Luc’s face and he reached for you. His large hands set on your waist, pulling you into him as his mouth captured yours.
“Hey, get a room!”
You weren’t sure which one of his teammates shouted it at you, but neither of your cared. Luc smiled against your lips and you couldn’t help but smile back, ruining the kiss but not the moment.
“Why do we go places with them?” you fake whined a little, your hands pressing softly on his chest as your spoke.
“Because they don’t get out without us,” Luc muttered softly to you. “It’s charity.”
You leaned your head back and laughed. Luc’s hands moved to the small of your back, his long fingers lacing together to support you as his laughter joined yours. You leaned forward again so your eyes could meet his.
“We should probably catch up to them,” Luc told you before his lips found yours again. “They’ll wander into some booth and a little old lady is going to convince them to buy all of her arts and crafts or something.”
Luc knew he teammates well because that’s exactly the situation you found the other boys in. This particular little old lady was apparently into making three-dimensional crotched cats. She was showing Zach a particular one she’d made that apparently resembled her calico cat she had as a small child and how she only offered it to customers who reminded her of her long lost childhood love. You took a deep breath and headed into the booth to begin a very painful rescue mission.
You didn’t realize until you managed to escape, after buying eight of her creations, that Luc had disappeared. You grabbed your phone out of your purse to see if he’d texted you where he’d gone.
“Hey, did you see where PL went?” you asked Jonesy. He took a sip of his wine slushee he’d picked up half a block ago that was already mostly empty and shook his head no. You turned toward Josh and raised an eyebrow. “Josh?”
“Nope. He’s your responsibility anyway,” Josh replied.
You looked around on your tip-toes, trying to see if you could spot his tall frame anywhere, but you were definitely too short for the task at hand. You let out a frustrated sigh and rocked back on your heels. Seconds later, a strong arm wrapped around your mid-section, pulling you into a familiar broad chest.
“Hey,” Luc whisper in your ear. “Sorry, I thought I’d be back before you managed to break them out of jail.”
“I work fast,” you replied as you rubbed along his muscled forearm currently positioned across your stomach.
You heard something  rustling behind you and Luc’s other arm wrapped around you to present you with why he’d gone missing.
“Flowers!” you practically squealed, drawing a soft laugh from Luc and some chuckles from the other boys as you grabbed the flowers with both hands and pulled them into your chest. “Thank you.”
“Hey, hey.” Luc’s hands grabbed your hips and tugged, spinning you to face him. “You didn’t even let me finish before you took them so I hope your answer is yes or I’m going to have to take those back.”
You gripped the flowers protectively against your chest carefully so you didn’t crush any of the delicate petals. No guy you were seeing had ever actually bought you flowers before and Luc had remembered you telling him that on your first date, trying to figure out the right moment to fulfill your fantasy.
“Mine,” you pouted, trying to look as cute as possible so he felt bad about threatening to take them away. “What’s the question?”
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
He bit the side of his lip, a smile pulling up the corners of his mouth, as he waiting for your answer. It was one of the easiest yeses of your life.
July
“Cannonball!”
You weren’t sure who had jumped into the pool, just that they’d created a big enough splash that had caused water to spray up on you and Luc. Luc’s arms were wrapped around your bare stomach. His hands had been on you the entire afternoon so far and he was showing no signs of stopping soon. Some girl nearby was freaking out about how her swimsuit had gotten wet from the splash as apparently it wasn’t designed to actually get wet.
“Thank god I’ve got you,” Luc mumbled in your ear, one arm lifting off you to bring his beer to his mouth for a quick swig. “Who the hell buys a swimsuit that can’t get wet and wears it to a pool party?”
You threw your head back against his shoulder as you laughed, the drink he’d mixed for you sloshing in your cup at your movements. Luc kissed the side of your head and gave your stomach a little squeeze.
“God, you two are so cute it’s disgusting,” Jonesy told you.
“You wish you had this hot-”
Water splashing on the two of you again cut Luc off before he could finish his drunk, loose lipped sentence. You squealed a little since this splash had pretty much soaked you both.
“Wanna go inside and dry off?” Luc whispered in your ear.
You smiled, your tongue darting between your teeth as he chuckled in your ear. You quickly started to dowm the rest of your drink, nodding in response to him as you drank. You barely had a chance to finish before Luc was grabbing one of your hands and pulling you towards the house. He was trying to be subtle about it and sneak away, but he was 6’3” and still incredibly pale despite summer being in full swing, so you know several people took notice. Neither of you cared.
Luc found an empty guest bedroom and pulled you in quickly, his eagerness guiding his movements. He shut the door by pushing you up against it as his mouth met yours. Your hands grabbed at his broad shoulders as his mouth pressed hungrily against yours. He grabbed right onto your waist and lifted you off the ground. You wrapped your legs around his waist for support as his tongue worked against yours.
“Fuck, baby, you look so good,” Luc mumbled as he moved from your mouth to your neck.
You let yourself drop just a little deeper into his arms so you could find the friction you both desperately wanted. Your core ground against the hardness in his shorts and he groaned against your skin.
“Shit,” he breathed out against your skin. “Trying to kill me already?”
“We do not have time for your slow and steady teasing shit right now,” you replied breathless as one of his hands slowly started tugging at the tie of your bikini top around the back of your neck.
“You’re normally,” he took the edge of one of the cups of your bikini top in between his teeth and pulled it aside to reveal your hard nipple, “much more into it.”
His mouth was on your stiff nipple before you could respond and a moan left your open mouth instead of the words you tried to say.
“Fuck, Luc,” you said breathlessly. “Stop fucking around and fuck me already.”
August
You were fiddling with the strap of your purse across your lap. Your right foot was tapping nervously against the floorboard of Luc’s car.
“What if they don’t like me?” you finally asked him. He’d been trying to get you to tell him how you felt the entire drive over to his parents’ house outside of Montreal. “I mean, I know you’re gonna tell me they will-”
“Because they will,” he cut in. “I know they will.”
“But,” you continued firmly, “what if they don’t?”
“Baby, I promise you that they’re going to love you.” Luc reached across the console and grabbed on to your hands folded around your purse strap. “I wouldn’t lie to you about this, okay? You have absolutely nothing to worry about. I’ve told them all about you and they are really excited to meet this girl who has completely swept me off my feet.”
You smiled with closed lips at his words. Your nerves were still more prominent than any comfort he tried to offer you. You let out a long breath as you tried to pull yourself together a bit. Luc had been itching to get you up to Montreal since the summer started so you could meet his family before the first game of the season and with camp on the horizon next month, August was the only time that made sense. However, two months of preparation was nowhere near long enough to calm your nerves, but you weren’t sure if there was an amount that would have gotten the job done.
“It’s just,” you sighed again, “I know how important they are to you and if I fuck this up, what’s going to happen?”
“You’re pretty much physically incapable of fucking this up,” Luc laughed, giving you a sweet smile. “Look, if they don’t like you, you can punch me in the face for lying to you, okay?”
You shook your head and tried to fight the wide smile he was pulling from you, but you couldn’t. Luc leaned in and placed a quick kiss on your lips.
“Alright, get out of the car while you’re still smiling,” he ordered you. “Let’s go.”
Four hours later as you sat back in Luc’s passenger seat on the way back to his apartment, you couldn’t remember why you’d been so nervous in the first place. His dad had decided you were good five minutes in and within the first hour, he’d moved you up to great status. His mom was harder to read, but you knew you’d cracked her when Luc prompted a conversation about baking and she took an interest in your family apple pie recipe which involved not one but two kinds of liquor in it.
“You know they love you, right?” Luc told you. “They made sure to tell me when you went to the bathroom.”
You smiled and reached over to pat his knee. You weren’t going to tell him you’d heard every word his parents had said to him.
“Luc, she’s great,” his mom had said to him. “Really, she’s welcome here anytime. She’s wonderful.”
“Looks like you learned a think or two from me about getting a women very far out of your league to date you,” his dad had joked.
“And she was worried you guys wouldn’t like her,” Luc laughed to them.
“We could never dislike someone who made you this happy,” his mom replied.
“She really does,” Luc sighed. You could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke about you. “She’s just, she’s everything, you know? Including so many things I didn’t realize I wanted. She’s beyond anything I’d ever thought about. I’ve just never met someone that makes me want to be a better person that she does and that’s way too much information. Mom, are you crying?”
“You just, god, you’re so grown up. Look at you!”
When the moment shifted, you had  headed back to the bathroom just to give them a little more time. Luc’s voice when he spoke about you was on a loop in your head and it played like a broken record the entire car ride back to his apartment. He was so genuinely happy when he talked about you. It was the kind of joy that infected the people around you, pulling them in even though they didn’t quite understand it. Your mom had told you that you sounded the same way the first time you told her about him. You let your mind linger on what they could mean as you fell asleep wrapped up in his arms that night. You couldn’t quite figure it out, but you knew it meant he was important to you and you were important to him.
September
The stress of camp and the approaching season had made you both crack at the same time on a cool September evening. You’d both said things you didn’t mean, hurling words designed specifically to hit each other’s weak spots. You’d walked out after a particularly sensitive verbal jab from him and he didn’t come after you, two major issues stacked together. He’d picked you up after you finished work today, so you didn’t have your car, a series of events you were currently regretting as you wandered aimlessly around his neighborhood. You’d passed the point of clearing your head and now you were just painfully aware of the fact that you left your jacket on Luc’s couch and it was colder than you’d thought it was.
You pulled out your phone and opened up Uber. Unfortunately, the nearest ride to you was over fifteen minutes away. Stupid Thursdays in the middle of the night in Columbus. You kicked a nearby rock with the toe of your sneaker as you sighed. Naturally, you had to fuck you the best thing in your life. It’s what you’d always done.
“Oh thank fucking god.”
You looked up in time to see Luc running up to you, arms outstretched. He wrapped you up in his arms and you stiffened. He pressed his face into your hair to envelop you in him, ignoring how you were unsure what to do in the moment.
“Fuck, you just left. I was so worried,” he mumbled into your hair.
You hadn’t even thought through your anger enough to realize that going out in the middle of the night by yourself might not have been the smartest idea. You slowly wrapped your arms around his waist.
“I know I was a shit head, but please promise me you won’t just walk out like that again.” Concern coating each word as it left his lips. “I was so fucking worried. I’m so fucking sorry, baby girl.”
"I’m sorry, Luc,” you mumbled against his chest.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” he whispered back. “We’re both just stressed right now and I know I took it out on you and I shouldn’t have. You deserve a hell of a lot better than me taking the stress of the season coming out on you.”
“No, no.” You pulled back from him a bit so he could hear you clearly and you continued, “It’s okay to be stressed about the season starting. I took my stress about it out on you. I just, this sounds so stupid, I know, but I just worry that when we can’t spend as much time together that you’re not going to like me as much and something is going to happen because we won’t be together as much and I just really, really, really don’t want that to happen.”
You knew you were rambling, letting your nervousness come out all at once. You were losing track of what was actually coming out of your mouth and what was just flying through your head at this point. You noticed Luc’s brows furrow as he listened to you. He was shaking his head softly from left to right as you spoke. He must have had enough of listening to your rambling nonsense because his lips crashed into yours as his hands cupped your face in an attempt to get you to focus your energy somewhere else.
He pulled back from you an inch, “That,” then brought his lips back to your briefly, “is,” kiss, “not,” another kiss, “going,” another, “to,” again, “happen.” He kept his mouth on yours this time, his tongue sliding against yours for a few moments before he pulled back again. “What else could I possibly want when what I’ve already got is so much better than I ever imagined anyone could be?”
You pushed him back against a nearby fence as you crushed your lips to his. Your mouth moved against his as his hands grabbed any part of you he could, moving from your face to your waist, grabbing your ass briefly, palming your breasts, anywhere he could think to touch.
“We should go home,” you breathed out as he moved his mouth to your neck.
“Oh yeah? Taking me home now, are you?” he mumbled against the sensitive skin of your neck.
His words with dripping in innuendo. Normally, you would’ve rolled your eyes at him and shoved him away jokingly, but there was a look in his eyes when they met yours again that went straight to your core and made your skin feel like it was on fire. So, you let him take you home.
October
"Luc!” you screamed. Your hands flew to his hair to try and get some stability as he started to lose his balance. “Luc!”
“I’m going to drop you if you don’t stop fucking wiggling,” he told you.
You glared down at him, not that he could see from your position on his shoulders. You squeezed your thighs in a little, applying gentle pressure on his neck to showcase your displeasure at how difficult he was making this process.
“Choking is my job and not where there’s all these little kids around,” Luc sang softly at you. “Did you get it yet?”
You stretched your arm out as far as you could and still needed to lean forward just a tad to get your hand to rap around the perfect apple you’d spotted from the ground.
“I got it!” you told him excitedly.
Luc laughed at your excitement. It was just an apple, but it was an apple that could’ve sat proudly on a kindergarten teacher’s desk and now it was your apple. He gently sank to his knees so you could get off his shoulder without causing too much risk of injury to either of you. It was a pretty high fall from his shoulders after all.
“You’re so useful.” You pat Luc’s cheek as a thank you with your eyes never leaving your apple.
“I feel like I’ve been replaced by a goddamn apple,” he said, annoyance permeating his voice. One of his heavy arms slung around your shoulders to pull you into his side. You sort of fell into him since there were already so many apples littering the ground of the orchard that you tripped a little, but he easily supported you. “Do you want to put your apple in the bucket or are you going to hold it the entire time?”
You glared up at him, drawing a laugh from him. You knew he thought you were too cute to ever succeed at looking threatening. You still maintained your glare as you gently placed the apple in the bucket with all of the others you’d already grabbed. Having a tall man to go apple picking with was giving you far more apple options than you normally had.
“These apples are indirectly for your mother, so consider the effort for your mother rather than for me,” you told him.
She was coming to town to watch the game this weekend and Luc had a day off prior to her arrival, so you decided that getting some fresh apples and making her your family apple pie recipe would be a nice gesture since she was so interested when you visited her back in August.
“You know she’d still like you even if you didn’t bake this pie and you’d just let me have my way with you all day.” Luc had whispered the last part in your ear, being careful that all of the children running through the orchard didn’t hear that.
You rolled your eyes at him, but let him pull you into his chest more as he kissed the top of your head.
“Um, excuse me, mister?”
You and Luke both turned to see a young girl, maybe five or six, standing a few feet away from you. Her mom was right behind her, watching the interaction carefully. Luc took his arm from around you so he could sink down, getting as close to eye level with her as he could.
“Hi,” he smiled softly at her. “My name’s Pierre-Luc. What’s your name?”
“Annie,” she said, a bright, toothy smile breaking out across her face. “You’re really tall, Mister Luc. Could you help me get an apple?”
“You know, I actually just did that for my girlfriend,” he informed her, gesturing to you as he spoke. “I think I got one more lift in me though, if that’s okay with your mom.” He looked over to the girl’s mom, who enthusiastically nodded at him.
“Honey, can you show the nice boy which apple you want?”
She pushed the little girl towards Luc and she immediately grabbed one of his hands and took off running, pulling him with her down the orchard. Her mom came to stand next to you as they came to a stop shortly, just a few trees over from where they started.
“Seems like you’ve got yourself a good one there,” the mom said softly to you. “I don’t know any guy close to his age that good with kids.”
You watched as Luc carefully placed his hands on his waist and lifted her up towards the apple of her dreams and you couldn’t help but smile. You’d seen him with the Savard children before and how good he was with them, but this one felt a little more real, a little more like this was something you could see in your future.
“He’s a good egg,” you told the mom. “I’m really lucky.”
“He’s cute too,” she said with a playful nudge of your arm. “Don’t let that one get away from you.”
“Mommy! Mommy!” little Annie screamed as she ran back to her mom, a bright red apple in her hands. “Look what I got!”
“You did? Look at that beauty!” she replied.
“Thank you so much,” she told Luc. “You absolutely made her day. Thank you again.”
“It’s no problem at all,” Luc assured her. “If she finds another one you can’t reach, come find me and I’m happy to help.”
You were pretty sure the mother thanked him at least seven more times before they headed off into a deeper part of the orchard. You looked over at Luc with a wide smile on your face and shook your head softly.
“What?” he asked you as he titled his head to the side as he tried to figure out how you were feeling.
“Just debating if you’re a Disney prince or something in your spare time is all,” you replied.
He blushed in response and smiling impossibly wider and you were a goner. Relationship were always terrifying to you, having to put that much of yourself into someone and trust they’ll treat like like you deserve to be treated. The potential directions relationships could go were vast like the ocean. You’d typically gone out to sea in the past with looming storm and had never stayed to far from the shore. With Luc, you’d slowly paddled out to sea, trusting a storm wouldn’t come and overturn your boat. Now, you were in so deep you couldn’t see shore anywhere around you anymore and for some reason, it didn’t scare you in the slightest.
November
“Baby, can you pass me the salt, please?” Luc asked you, hand outstretched toward you.
“Salt!” you shouted as you put it in his outstretched hand.
“Thank you. The pepper too?” he asked. You knew the ask was coming, so you were already prepared and slapped it into his waiting hand.
“You two are so precious.”
You hadn’t realized your mom had entered the kitchen until she spoke, making you and Luc jump a little. Luc had just enough time off right round Thanksgiving and your family was close enough to Columbus that you were able to make the day trip to spend it with them. Your mom had insisted you bring Luc along. She said she was going to make your good Canadian boy “American fat” for his first American family Thanksgiving. You knew better so by the transitive property Luc knew better than to try and resist your mom’s will, so you were both in the kitchen early on Thanksgiving morning helping make dinner.
“Uh, thanks, mom,” you told her.
Your eyes locked with Luc’s before you returned to chopping the celery for the stuffing you were making. He gave you a sweet smile before going back to stirring his pot. Your mom, the forever hoverer, headed over to observe Luc’s cooking, meaning she grabbed a spoon on her way there to taste his work in progress. When you’d first told her about him, you mentioned he knew how to cook and she didn’t believe a guy that young, that attractive, who plays that heteronormative-enforcing of a sport could cook. Based on her expression when she tasted the gravy, she realized how wrong she’d been.
“Oh my god, that’s incredible, sweetie,” she told him, a look of pure shock still present on her face.
“Thank you,” he replied as his cheeks tinging with pink in mild embarrassment.
Your mom patted him on the shoulder and threw her spoon in the dishwasher, knowing you’d get on her case if she’d come in and just left something for you to clean later, before she headed back into the living room where the football game was on.
“Thanks for coming.” You were pretty sure you’d said it to Luc at least a hundred times since you drove down last night. You couldn’t express how much it meant for him to take some of the very little rest time he had during the season and spend it with your family, one of the least restful things you could think of. “I mean it, PL. I really appreciate it.”
“You don’t have to keep thanking me,” he told you, his eyes never leaving the recipe book in his hands. “You know I’ll do anything for you because I lo- really care about you.”
You paused for a second and your breath caught in your chest. Had he almost just told you he loved you? Did you feel the same way? Did you just hear what you wanted to hear? Did you even want to hear him say that to you?
You shoved the thoughts aside, deciding that rambling thought process was better saved for another time, and walked over to him. He must have heard your feet as you shuffled over to him because his arm closest to you was already up and outstretched and he’d shifted to holding the recipe book with one hand. You accepted the invitation and wrapped both of your arms around his waist, sighed contently when you were pressed against his warm body.
“I really care about you too, Luc,” you told him, “and I really appreciate you coming with me. Can’t thank you enough for coming.”
“If you thank me one more time, I’m going to return a Christmas gift,” Luc sang softly to you, his eyes transfixed on the recipe. “Do you think it matters if I- oh fuck it, I’m just gonna throw it all in and see what happens.”
December
“Okay, you have to do this.” Luc threw the icing bag down on the kitchen table causing white icing to squirt everywhere. You were grateful you’d picked up a cheap table cloth just to do this like your mom always had. “My hands are too big for this.”
You laughed and grabbed the gummy wreath and the icing bag from in front of him. You carefully coated the back in icing and put a little extra on the door of your gingerbread house to make sure it would stick before placing it gently on the door.
“See, big man hands can’t do that,” Luc told you knowingly, making you laugh.
“Think you can handle putting the Cinnamon Toast Crunch on the roof like shingles?” you asked him, offering up the box of cereal in his direction.
“You are a creative genius with gingerbread, you know.” Luc took the cereal box from you. “You should quit your day job and become a gingerbread house designer.”
“Are you going to financially support me in the off-season? Seems like a very seasonal job without a ton of revenue opportunities,” you popped a candy Christmas light in your mouth, “but a lot of free goodies seem to be included.”
“Of course,” Luc replied without missing a beat.
His concentration was mostly on gently placing each individual cereal piece on the roof in careful, slightly overlapping lines to create a decorative roof. His tongue poked out between his teeth as he lined up a piece right on the edge of the roof and you snorted a little at the sight.
“Don’t laugh at me. I’m trying to support your vision here,” Luc told you in a jokingly serious tone.
“Your support is incredibly valuable to me.” You rolled an icing covered ice cream cone in green sprinkles to create a green tree for by the front door of the house before continuing, “This project wouldn’t be where it is without your endless support.”
“Mm,” was all he could say as he was back to the opposite edge of the roof again.
He cursed under his breath as his phone started to ring on the counter. He was covering in royal icing of various shades and sprinkles.
“Baby, could you get that? It’s probably my mom,” Luc asked you.
You got up and grabbed his phone off the counter. He was right. It was his mom. They’d just gotten to the airport they were connecting through to get to Columbus and just wanted to give Luc an update. You relayed the message and told her you were looking forward to dinner later with them, but you have an important construction project you needed to finish first so she wouldn’t launch into a conversation the length of their layover.
“She’s mad she doesn’t get you Christmas,” Luc told you as you sat back down. “My mom,” he added when he saw your confused face before elaborating further, “She understands why, but she says you’re part of the family, so she’s mad you’re not actually going to be here for Christmas.”
“My mom feels the same way,” you replied. “Not sure it’s you or your cooking she’s really missing though. Maybe next year we’ll bring everyone together here in Columbus? We’re going to need a bigger place though if we’re going to host that many people.”
“We’re going to need a bigger place for next year, eh?”
Luc emphasized the words “we” and “next year.” You hadn’t even realized you’d said that and now you realized that you’d suggested you were going to be together a year from now and that you would be okay with your parents meeting his at that point. You just jumped from casual banter to an incredibly serious future conversation.
“Well, I just- I don’t know. Forget it,” was all you could come up with as a response and you started fidgeting with the container of sprinkles in front of you as a distraction.
“I’d love all of that.”
You turned your head to face him, your eyes searching his face for any sign of discomfort at the idea his part. All you could see was him looking at you the way he always had, since the first day you met him almost a year ago now.
“I want you out of your shitty ass apartment with Kelsey. I want to see you on Christmas next year. I want to watch our dads try and interact.” You both laughed at that thought and then Luc continued, “I want you here with me all the time because I love you.”
Your mind had been racing last month when he’d almost said those words, not sure exactly how you felt. In this moment where the words had actually come out, a wave of calm came over you. This didn’t scare you at all like you had thought it would. This feeling had been building since the first time you met him and you hadn’t been able to place it until he said those words out loud for the first time. You knew you loved him.
“I love you too, Luc.”

Skam Kibbe Types: Comparing the Nooras I know a lot of you have seen Skam and its remakes, so I thought it might be fun to compare the Kibbe types of the different actresses who play Noora. Obviously they’re all gorgeous, so the point here is really to show how the same general style is adapted for their different bodies, and how regardless of your body type, if you like a style, you can make it work for you (under the Kibbe system, if Kibbe is your thing). I’ve also talked about their different styles here. OG Noora (Josefine Frida Pettersen): Like I talked about here, I think OG Noora is a soft natural. She’s 5′7, so that narrows our options down a bit. Her shoulders are definitely the broadest part of her body, and her rib cage/torso also has width to it. Her face also has a soft broadness to it. However, she’s missing the sharpness that would indicate a flamboyant natural. So I think soft natural makes sense. Druck: Mia Winter (Milena Tscharntke): Milena is 5′5 (1.65 m), so she can be pretty much any type. This one is maybe a bit controversial because her face is gaminey, but I think she’s a classic of some sort. I can’t decide if she’s a soft classic or a dramatic classic- what do you guys think? Her waist, hips, and bust are very moderate, but she has some blunted and sharp features. She also looks awesome with straight hair and a blazer, a very classic look: For comparison, I think she looks a bit too big for the delicate ruffles and patterns in this look: Skam NL: Liv Reijners (Zoë Love Smith): Zoe is 5′5 and has more softness than some of the other Nooras do. She has more defined curves than some of her counterparts and benefits from flowier, softer looks. I think she’s a theatrical romantic. She looks a bit smaller than she actually is and has delicate features, but she also has a little bit of sharpness throughout her body. We can see that in the body study Zoe did on her instagram: Skam Austin: Grace Olsen (Kennedy Hermansen): I couldn’t find Kennedy’s height, but she’s taller than Shelby Surdam, who plays Kelsey, so I think she’s around 5′8/5′9. That limits the types she could be to flamboyant natural, soft dramatic, or dramatic. I think she’s a dramatic because she looks lanky and narrow, with a taut bust, tapered, straight waist and hips. She dresses like a soft dramatic (and I think edits her insta photos to look more soft dramatic), but I think she’s better suited to dramatic styles. Skam France Manon Demissy (Marilyn Lima): I’ve seen a lot of people say that Manon is a gamine, but I’m going to be controversial and push back against that. Her boyfriend (Charles from Skam) is 6'2 and she’s about a head shorter than him, so I think she’s around 5'6-5′7, too tall to be a gamine. I’m going to say that I think she’s a soft classic. To me, she looks like she has some elongation instead of looking super petite (like a gamine would), and she has a moderate but defined bust, waist, and hips. Now we’re moving into the territory of remakes I haven’t seen, so let me know what you all think. Skam Italia: Eleonora Sava (Benedetta Gargari): Eleonora is 5′7 (170cm), so too tall to be a gamine or romantic type. I’m going to cast another vote for dramatic classic here. To me, she looks like she has some elongation and angularity, but she still has a balanced, defined waist-hips-bust. Plus, she looks totally in her element in classic looks: WTFock Zoë Loockx (Veerle Dejaeger): This one has been tripping me up for a while. Zoe is 169cm (so again, around 5′7), so too tall to be a gamine or a romantic, and there aren’t a ton of pictures of her online. My guess is that she’s some type of natural, maybe a soft natural like OG Noora. I think she has some width throughout her body, especially in the shoulders, but she also has some softness in her bust and hips: Skam Espana Nora Grace (Nicole Wallace): To me, Nora looks *tiny*. There’s no way she’s not a soft gamine, and they dress her in very gaminey outfits to compliment that. Alejandro (right) is 6′1, and I would say Nora (middle) is at least 10 inches shorter than he is, putting her around 5′2-5′3. She looks a bit overwhelmed by the fabric in this picture, where they dress her more like a “traditional” Noora: And (IMO) looks way better with gamine elements to her outfits, like this: So that’s it! Let me know if you agree or if you think I’m totally off base. I think this is a really good example of how every type is beautiful and how the same look can be translated to different types.

October photo challenge, day 29: Retelling a scary story
Tumblr media
This story is an old urban legend that goes by many names. It was collected in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz. In that book, he calls it “The Girl Who Stood on a Grave”. My dolls are here to tell it to you.
It happened many years ago, or maybe only a few years ago. A big group of friends had gathered for a Halloween costume party at Kelsey’s house.
Tumblr media
They were having a splendid time playing classic party games and comparing their beautiful costumes.
Tumblr media
When the fun had died down a bit, Heather and Kelsey began talking about the cemetery across from Kelsey’s house. Heather was saying that she’d be terrified to live by a cemetery, especially one with such old headstones.
Tumblr media
Rose overheard them and chimed in to the conversation, saying that she didn’t think it would be so scary to live near a cemetery. In fact, it might be kind of neat to admire the old headstones and learn about long-dead residents of the town.
Kelsey told her that this cemetery was different. The land that the cemetery was built on was cursed, and any body buried there wouldn’t be truly and entirely dead--they were still partly alive, just aware enough to know they were eternally trapped in a coffin deep in the ground, but dead enough that they didn’t need food or water or air. They’d never be able to rest, and that made them angry and agitated. All they wanted was to pull someone down with them, to share in their misery. And the longer the corpse was buried, the more desperate they were for company. It was best to stay far away from that cemetery, and leave the undead alone lest you become one of them.
Rose laughed at that story. She couldn’t believe that Kelsey and Heather were foolish enough to be afraid of that cemetery. In fact, she’d prove it to them right now that it’s completely safe!
Tumblr media
Heather said that if Rose really was that brave, then she should to go into the cemetery and stand on a grave. “Take this knife,” Heather said, “and stick it in the ground on a grave so that we can know you really stood there. We’ll wait for you at the cemetery gates. You have fifteen minutes, and then we’ll come in and see if you’ve actually done it.”
Tumblr media
The cemetery was much larger inside the gates than Rose had expected. It was also very pretty, with tall trees and a view of the sun setting behind the hills. Most of the graves were recent, but a few of them were very old.
Tumblr media
She picked the grave of a girl who was the same age as Rose when she died. Rose stood on the grave for a few moments, reading the tombstone, and feeling just a little bit nervous. “There’s nothing to be frightened of,” she told herself. She quickly plunged the knife into the ground and turned to leave, laughing about how easy this was to accomplish.
Tumblr media
But she couldn’t get away. Something was holding onto her and keeping her there! She tried again to move, but still she could not.
Tumblr media
“Something has grabbed me!” she screamed, and fell onto the ground.
Kelsey and Heather heard Rose’s screams from far away. They were too afraid to follow the sound at first. They held back for a few minutes, gathering their courage, before finally entering the cemetery and looking for their friend.
Tumblr media
They found Rose, collapsed and sprawled across the grave, dead from fright.
Tumblr media
Without realizing it, she had stabbed the knife right through her costume’s long skirt. It was only the knife that had held her there.
And the girl in the ground beneath the grave was as silent as a stone.

What to Binge Watch While in Quarantine
Do you feel yourself running out of things to watch on DVR or you don’t know which streaming platform to explore for your next watch? Or do you just find yourself with more time on your hands and don’t know what to do? If you answered yes to any of these questions I hope this thread helps you out. A lot of these picks are some of my top choices no matter what the case (which means I might have spoken about them before-possibly A LOT. Or they may be upcoming March picks, which just shows how great they really are). So without further a do here are some things you should consider bingeing as you maintain your social distancing and seek a form of escape...
Need a laugh?

Check out DERRY GIRLS
This half hour comedy (which honestly should be longer because the episodes go by too fast and there are not enough of them in the seasons) follows Erin Quinn as she navigates high school during the 1990s in Northern Ireland. She attends an all girl Catholic school along with her cousin Orla, and friends Michelle, Clare and James. (That’s right James also attends the all girls school. He’s a Brit and it would be too dangerous for him to attend the boys school during this time of civil unrest.) As the girls experience trivial problems like how to get to a concert or how to avoid people eating pot brownies at a funeral, the historic problems play out in the background. During the pandemic we’re experiencing we can take away living in the moment like these girls from Derry and not overly stressing on big world problems.

Wanting more of a ROM COM kind of escapism?

Then look no further than the Netflix original Set it Up.
Two assistants, Harper and Charlie, work in the same building and are experiencing a very “Devil wears Prada” relationship with each of their bosses. They meet one night at work after hours and believe they have the worse boss. A plan gets set in motion to set up their terrible bosses with each other. Then when they’re happy, the two assistants can have their lives back. You already see where this is probably going and who this love story is actually following: Harper and Charlie. I’ve been raving about this movie since 2018 when it first came out and it is still just as great as the first time I watched it. It honestly still gives hope for a great romantic comedy.

Up for a good mystery?
Tumblr media
Give Cw’s Nancy Drew a try.
One of the Cw’s latest new shows this season, Nancy Drew, re-invents the classic stories we all know and love with a more darker and supernatural spin. If you like Riverdale and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina then this might be right up your alley. However, as someone who doesn’t watch Riverdale and didn’t fall in love with Sabrina, I am still a big fan of this new adaptation of Nancy Drew. I feel like I’ve experienced a roller coaster of reviews with this one, from really liking it to not so much (because there was too much of the supernatural involved and I just wanted a good mystery) to now really liking it again. I think I just needed some time to understand the vibe of it all and now that I really know the characters I’m liking it a lot. I’m also excited it has been renewed for a second season.
You can catch up with all 16 episodes now on the CW app or online cwtv.com. New episodes return in April.
Want more of a magical kind of mystery?
Tumblr media
Then you gotta watch Locke and Key.
Thanks to Netflix’s new trending list I decided to check out Locke and Key and I am so happy I did. It was fantastic and I can’t wait for season two. Based on the graphic novel by the same name, the series follows the Locke siblings who have just witnessed their father’s murder before traveling cross-country with their mother to his ancestral home, Key house. The house is filled with these magical keys that all have different properties from getting into your mind and looking at your deepest thoughts and desires, a key that opens any door and can take you anywhere, or one that opens a music box that lets you control people. The kids get drawn to the keys and unlock a deeper mystery of the keys and how their dad was involved in it all. Plus, there’s a sinister presence that is after the keys and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Definitely worth checking out!
Streaming on Netflix.
Need some music in your life?
Tumblr media
You must watch Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist
This show gets better and better each episode. After a freak accident, Zoey gets the ability to hear people’s innermost feelings through song and dance. She’s the only who can hear it, which means she needs to help the person get through the problem in their life. Each episode has a good amount of musical numbers from popular songs to classics and even musicals. Great cast. There is not one character I don’t like. If you are a fan of Glee I would highly suggest checking it out. It’s the show that often gets compared to it, but you don’t have to be a fan of Glee to enjoy it. I wasn’t a die-heart fan and I’m loving Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. It’s a feel good watch that is just what we need at a difficult time like this.
Watch it on NBC on demand.
Did you love High School Musical?
Tumblr media
Then why haven’t you watched High School Musical the Musical the Series?
This show has been promoted since Disney Plus was released back in November. There was a lot of hype over it, which made me unsure if it would be worth it, but I gotta say that I really enjoyed it overall. A cross between Glee and the Office, HSMTMTS follows students who attend the school the Disney Original Movie Series was filmed. When the new drama teacher comes to “East High” she is shocked that the drama department has never put on the musical for themselves. There’s a love triangle(s), a large cast of talented singers, drama and mystery. Great new songs that will get stuck in your head and the promise for a second season with a brand new musical to perform. (I’m just bummed it’s Beauty and the Beast and not HSM 2). The episodes are only about 25 minutes and you’ll find yourself finished with the 10 episode season in a matter of hours.

Feeling a telenovela musical?
Tumblr media
Then Violetta is for you!
Drama, laughs, love, and music (with more catchy songs you won’t be able to get out of your head), this Disney original from Buenos Aires has it all. You will get sucked into the episodes just like I did and be shocked how far into the series you are in such a short amount of time. I watched all 80 episodes (that are about 40 minutes a piece) in a matter of 2 months. (And now I’m upset that Disney Plus hasn’t released season 2!!) The show follows Violetta Castillo who has just returned home after traveling the globe with her father for years. She wants to be like a regular kid and attend school rather than having a tutor, but her father forbids it. He’s over protective because her mother was a famous singer who then tragically died. He ties it back to the music and forbids Violetta from performing as well. Throughout the first season, she is exposed to a music school where she makes new friends, enemies, and becomes a part of a love triangle (naturally). In the process she rises to be one of the most talented performers, but constantly is worried her dad will find out the truth and make them move again.

Needing a Sci-Fi fix?
Tumblr media
Tune into the Cw’s Pandora.
The show aired on the Cw this summer and needs more love and recognition. I was surprised over how much I enjoyed it. When each episode aired I wanted to watch it right away, which then made me upset because I had to wait a week, but you won’t have that problem! The show takes place in the future in the year 2199. Our main character Jax witnesses her family getting tragically killed and is forced back to Earth to live with her uncle who runs a training academy. Jax enrolls in the school and makes several friends a long the way (there are so many ships on this show that I often had trouble deciding who I liked with who). While at the academy she starts to piece together that her family’s death might not have been an accident and that more lies behind it as well as her own past. There were times when I was confused by how much time had passed from the last episode because characters would be very close or references would get made and I’d be like: Did I miss something? But despite all of that I really enjoyed it and am happy there will be a season 2. It feels very Cw in the best way possible, so if you already watch a lot of shows on the network then you should give this one a try.
Watch the entire first season on the CW app or online @ cwtv.com
Wanting an ironic watch in this difficult time?
Tumblr media
Then add Daybreak to your queue.
This Netflix original had been on my list for a while and once the Corona virus was getting more and more serious I felt I needed something to take my mind off of it and also to have a good laugh. Daybreak is doing just that. (I am currently still watching the series so I don’t have a full review just yet.) This show takes place during the aftermath of a nuclear attack. In this apocalypse adults have turned into “zombie-like figures” who are muttering the last thought they had (often a very funny one). The kids are now in charge and each clique in high school has a territory. We follow social-outcast/new kid at school. Josh who is on the search for the love of his life, Sam, that he lost during the night of the explosion. Along the way he finds allies and they form their own tribe. This show is constantly breaking the fourth wall, having characters directly talk and look at us. I thought I would hate it, but I actually really like that feature and am kind of upset now that Josh has not narrated an episode in a while.

Add Kelsey’s 100 Baby Challenge to your Watch Later
Throughout last year, Buzzfeed multiplayer’s Kelsey Immpicciche took up the 100 baby challenge in the Sims 4. What she thought would be a fun challenge and a couple videos blew up into a full series spanning 50 episodes, multiple spin-off series and even a line of clothing (which I am happy to say I own a sweatshirt). Who would have thought watching someone play the Sims and try to have 100 babies with all different parents would be so much fun? Kelsey has made me want to play the Sims and have my very own 100 baby challenge. This challenge is hilarious and fun. I loved all of Kelsey’s commentary as she plays as well as reading the comment section where everyone tries to give her tips. It’s so exciting to see how so many people got involved in this challenge. I hope she continues for season 2 soon!
You can watch all of season 1 on YouTube.

Venture back in time and to Prince Edward Island with Anne with an E.
L.M. Montgomery’s beloved series is adapted with a fresh new take on her classic characters and setting. Across Anne with an E’s three seasons we watch Anne Shirley come to Green Gables and form a family with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. We watch her shake up school and form life long friends. Something that I love about this series is that it is able to incorporate so many of the issues our society is facing today. While not always 100% accurate to the original novels, the show takes liberties with the source material and expands upon it to create something audiences can see as an echo of our conflicts. While this has been a problem for some, I think, once you realize this, you can enjoy the series even more. I know of so many people who have turned to the book after watching and falling in love with this series. Now, during this time, it is the perfect form of escapism. With each season spanning about 10 episodes you will be done and wanting more just like I am. I’m still upset the series has not been renewed.
Streaming now on Netflix.
Early Releases:

A Decision at the Crossroads
A Heartland AU - Chapter 4 – Finale
While Ty went to fetch his phone Amy popped open one of the side panels on the trailer and unsnapped the table that was first in line. She reached her arms wide to grab it and start lifting it out when Ty showed up.
“Whoa easy Amy, I’ll get it.”
“I’m fine.”
“Of course you are now back up please.”
“Thank you Ty.” She said and stepped aside “and 5 of the chairs please.”
“Six actually Kelsey’s coming.”
“Kelsey ?”
“Dr. Burton, my namesake apparently.” He said laying the table on it’s side and unfolding the legs. “Hey, this is nice set up.”
“We take trips with kids, believe me a table is always easier and cleaner than watching them balance plates. Besides it’s more homey and civilized.”
“I’ll file that away” he said maneuvering the table and then placing chairs as Amy opened and gave them a wipe with a damp cloth as well as the table. She had also removed a little basket with a tablecloth sealed in a zip loc bag, and began to spread it. As well as counting out silverware found in the basket as well.
“Ty there’s another basket with plates and more pitchers.” She said watching him walk over as she grabbed one pitcher from her now empty basket and put it on the table.
They set the table together, each handling three settings and Amy ran in for a roll of paper towels. He watched as she took a second to look at the table, nodded and walked over to lower herself into a chair slowly. She was wearing a blue dungaree dress that went down to her knees, it had ¾ sleeves and embroidery along the hem and collar. Obviously a maternity dress, he was captivated by her shape.
“You need to stop staring at me Ty, I’m becoming very self conscious, I already think I look like a beach ball.”
“You don’t, I’m sorry, you look great. Two kids, one on the way, I’m, I don’t know….”
“Three actually, you’re the first to hear, Clint Riley called, they have a foster for us, a young boy named Luke Kashani, he’s nine. Clint’s bringing him Monday.”
“Clint Riley, he’s still around huh. That’s nice, keeping that tradition going.”
“Yeah, Scott, you, Georgie, remember Badger, it’s nice.”
“Mitch mentioned Georgie and something with Lou, he also told me about the divorce.”
“Georgie was an orphan who ran away from her foster family in Okotoks, she stowed away in Grandpa’s pickup and found her way to Heartland. She was a keeper. The divorce is what it was I guess, it’s now amicable with benefits apparently, works for them.”
“Georgie lives with Lou at Heartland ?”
“Lou took a condo in town when she became Mayor and lives there with Katie. We fixed up the loft when I got back from Europe as a nice studio and I lived there alone and then with Mitch for awhile before moving to Saddle River, his family ranch, his parents have an independent living condo in Calgary. Georgie and Quinn are engaged and live in the loft, Grandpa and Lisa live in the house.”
“I heard Jack married Lisa, I saw an article about the Hall of Fame that mentioned it. I’m sorry about your dad Amy, I read about his passing.”
“The death of a legend, it was a nice tribute.”
“I saw a tribute to Lou as Mayor too, ordering the stay in place at home and closing Maggie’s early on definitely seemed to make a difference in the area.”
“It did and I think she’ll be remembered for that, this is her last term, she’s not running again. Enough about Hudson, tell me about you, is there someone special, Kelsey maybe ?”
“Nah, Kelsey and I never, there have been women over the years but I’m free now, I’m picky I guess.”
“Well when it happens you’ll know.”
“You and Mitch look happy.”
“We are, very happy.”
“How’s Jack ?”
“Older, pretty much retired, his arthritis, heart problems, a hard 90, for a former bronc rider and Alberta cowboy not fun.”
“Lisa ?”
“Lisa’s good, the perfect grandmother, she loves the kids. So does Casey, Lyndy adores them both. Mitch’s folks too.”
“Casey, I know this.”
“McMurtry.”
“Right, McMurtry Rodeos, they come around every couple years.”
She noticed quickly enough that he had changed the subject. “Ty ? Are you happy ?”
Ty looked at her and into her eyes, Amy could see that he wasn’t teary but there was disappointment, a small sadness in his face “I guess, I mean I don’t think I’m unhappy.”
“Were you happier yesterday ? Mitch said he thought you might be having a case of the might have beens.”
“I didn’t need to see you for that. The baby was eye popping don’t get me wrong and not in a bad way Amy, you look amazing, really the, well,  the high school boyfriend comment, that sort of slammed a world of reality down on me.”
“That’s what we were, we were an actual couple for most of my high school 3rd year, my senior year was a nightmare, we were way better as friends than as a couple Ty, we were a lousy couple.” She was smiling and not being harsh, her tone somewhat softly nostalgic, it was in fact a long time ago.
“Come on, that’s a bit extreme don’t you think ?”
“Really ? You really think ?” She said,  again somewhat amused and again not in anything more than the nostalgia of it “we had a good few months, you know Kit and the Quarantine and then I won the Ring of Fire and rather than joining me and perhaps a later bike trip in the summer to see some of the world you decided that you needed to go off alone for a few weeks. So, after the excitement of motels with my dad on tour and while I spent the rest of the summer working and doing what used to be your job on top of mine you came home almost 4 months later with a huge dose of misplaced maturity and Blair. Then Chase stuck his nose in, we were a good couple for 7 months, maybe. Look Ty, I know about what Grandpa did and he told me what led up to that talk and him sending you off. I don’t know what brought you to that point or why you didn’t come home, but it was your decision, we all had to live with your decision.”
“Looking back, I don’t know either honestly.”
“And I don’t know what would have happened if you had but I do know this, my life with Mitch and our kids feels so right to me that I can’t imagine life without him being a part of it, I’m not saying this to hurt you Ty, but your best days are still ahead of you.”
“So this is the honest conversation part we didn’t do back then huh ?”
“This is it.”
“How do you do it and go on together ?”
“You say it, get it out of your system and have sex, then you fix it in the morning.” She answered smiling.
“Well to be fair we weren’t, at the time, you know.” He said smiling.
“That’s true”, Amy agreed and immediately blushed and then agreed with a smirky smile and a nod, “hey, you’ve,  you know, since, right ?”
“Huh ?” Then realizing she meant had sex, “oh, oh yeah, no worries.”
“So, you’re still driving a classic truck I see, what’s that an early 70’s GMC ?”
“Yeah,’73, hey, whatever happened to Harley and Old Blue ?”
“After a while Caleb took Harley because, well, it broke my heart to see him every day and he eventually found him a nice home with a couple kids who were going to share him.”
“Sorry, I really wanted to,,,,, forget it. And the truck ?”
“Grandpa kept the truck running and in front of the house for months figuring if nothing else you’d show up in the night and drive it off but you didn’t and one day it wouldn’t start so he hauled it next to Goldie swearing he’d fix it one day.”
“So it’s just sitting there rotting ?”
“Well no actually, about the time Caleb sold Harley I was sick of looking at it so I got rid of it.”
“You sold it.”
“Well, in the interest of honesty, not exactly.”
“What does that mean, exactly ?”
“I attached the promise ring to the ignition key and had it crushed.”
“You had it crushed ?”
“I needed closure Ty, it was invigorating, a grand release of emotions.”
Ty stared at her for a few seconds in shock and then Amy started laughing and then holding her stomach bent over and laughing. “I’m sorry Ty.”
“It’s Ok” he said laughing along with her.
“Oh here, give me your hand.” She said reaching out, she loves it when I laugh “come on silly give me your hand” she prodded seeing the look on his face.
Finally she grabbed his hand and hauled it over, “come here I don’t bite,” gently she turned his palm and lay it over the right side of her belly holding her hand over his. A few seconds later she smiled, “there, feel that ?”
When she stretched out her leg rather than kicking Ty identified a second feeling and realizing it was really no different that any animal understood “that’s a stretch.”
“That’s it” she said gently releasing the pressure. “I think we’ll call her Marion, it’s time. Marion Fleming Cutty.”
“That’s really great, so Lyndy.”
“Lyndy Sarah, Mitch’s grandmother. Jackson Timothy and Marion no middle yet.”
“And Luke was it ?”
“Luke Kashani. I guess we’ll need something for a toast, is there a place to get some wine close by ?
“I have beer for dinner and a couple bottles of champagne I can donate to the cause. You drink ?”
“Oh no, I‘ve had a couple sips of champagne as toasts, wedding night and the like, but not, no, I don’t. Especially pregnant.”
“It was just a question Amy.”
She smiled and nodded, “you wouldn’t by any chance have any ice in there for the water ?”
“There’s an ice machine in the barn for ice packs and stuff.”
“You get the champagne, I’ll do the ice.” She said pushing herself up with a grunt.
He smiled watching her move, almost awkwardly, before turning to the house while she walked slowly into the barn.
She wasn’t at the table when he returned and neither were the pitchers so he walked over to the barn where he found the pitchers full of ice on a small table by the barn door and then heard her on the other side by the paddock. Following her voice he turned around the barn and found her engrossed in conversation with the three rescues she had never met. He stood there watching her and the horses who seemed very anxious to be close. The soft sing song pater of her voice a sweet memory for him, the miracle girl.
She turned and smiled “Oh hey, I saw them and figured I’d say hi. We should probably get them stalled and fed.”
“As soon as the guys get back we’ll get it done, you’re wearing a dress, come on.”
They returned to the table after Ty filled the cooler he carried out with ice as well, as a truck Amy did not know pulled up and an early 40’s woman stepped out and over. She had a welcoming smile and a pretty face.
Amy looked up and smiled, “you must be Kelsey, it’s good to meet you, I’m Amy Fleming, Mitch’s wife” she finished extending her hand.
“Kelsey Burton, good to meet you Amy,”
“Sit, relax, we’re waiting for Mitch and Matt to get back.”
“How far along are you if you don’t mind my asking.”
“Little over 5 months I guess, you have kids ?”
“Two, one about to start high school and one about to go to college. Mitch said this is your third, we never got to three before the arguing got too bad, we married way too young.”
They all turned as Mitch’s truck came onto the property, the large Cummins Diesel was not quiet as it pulled up.
Amy smiled when he got out the cab and opened the back door along with Matt repeating the act on the passenger side.
Ty walked off to grab the cooler he had put by the barn and offered beers to all. Amy poured a few waters on her side of the table as Kelsey helped with the food and Mitch and Matt led the horses into the barn.
Once laid out Kelsey examined the table.
“This is a lot of food you guys.” Kelsey said.
Mitch who had come out the barn wiping his hands on a paper towel glanced over at Amy who grinned and him and made a face “don’t you dare.” She said blushing.
“Still eats her weight ?” Ty asked seeing the exchange only to have a dinner roll thrown his way which he caught.
“Hey, what happened to civilized dinner ?” Ty said laughing before sitting down.
Dinner was long and drawn out. Kelsey and Ty talked about the practice, Matt had sheriff stories and Amy and Mitch talked about adventures of their own and their kids. Amy was surprised at the chemistry between Kelsey and Ty and the looks they passed to each other like old friends but maybe something more. Amy was past the age thing, her dad and Casey and Jack and Lisa proved that.  She was not surprised at all that Ty was friends with Kelsey’s kids or that Ty caught every baseball and hockey game her sons played, in and out of school. At one point during a lull in the eating Ty lifted the champagne so that Amy could see.
“Good a time as any.” She said reaching for clean cups and passing them over.
“Champagne, what are we celebrating ?” Mitch asked.
“Us” Amy said as Ty passed cups around after the big pop.
“Why us ?”
“Because sweetheart congratulations are generally tendered when one is told he’s about to become a father, Clint called before, we have a 9 year old foster son arriving Monday morning, Luke Kashani.”
“Luke Kashani, 9 years old, wow.” Mitch repeated.
“Congratulations you two, that’s wonderful” Kelsey announced raising her glass and tapping it to Mitch’s and then Amy’s iced tea that Mitch remembered to get. Soon they were onto 9 year old boy stories and Amy reached out to grab the platter of ribs and dropped them. Not hard but everyone turned to her as she reached for her side.
“Easy girl, mom’s just grabbing for some ribs.” She whispered and then seeing Mitch’s look took his hand as she had Ty’s and then kissed his palm, something she had not done to Ty before placing it on the spot.
“She’s really going at it.” He said smiling and then leaned forward to grab the ribs and bring them closer for Amy who smiled and kissed him before pushing a few onto her plate.
“What do they put in this Cole slaw, it’s always awesome and I can’t figure it out.” Kelsey asked putting some on her plate.
“It’s horseradish” Amy said after swallowing.
“Is this a pregnancy thing ?” Matt asked “heightened palate ?”
Amy shrugged trying to swallow her next bite before answering, “It’s years of studying herbs and alternate remedies. Single ingredients are easy usually unless the tastes are ambiguous like licorice and anise. Or I guess it could be the pregnancy thing” she finished looking up with a smile.
Kelsey was the first to leave, she had to get home to her teenagers. Mitch and Amy said goodbye as they wouldn’t be seeing her in the morning. Matt was game to leave as well, he had an early shift in the morning but promised to stop before they left which was planned for 9:00 AM. Ty helped clear away and helped Mitch with stowing the table and chairs while Amy split the food as Ty insisted they take enough for lunch on the way home. He promised he’s see them in the morning so goodnights were easy.
Later in the evening in the afterglow of their lovemaking Mitch had gone to get some cold water for Amy who settled herself into her current comfortable position, on her left side, pillow between her legs and her arm perched on her belly. Mitch lovingly held the glass out and helped her take a drink without moving much or spilling and then settled as usual behind her, his arm sliding under hers as he leaned forward to kiss her shoulder.
“You had a chance to catch up with Ty ?”
“I did, it was nice.”
“He Ok ?”
“You were a bit right I think, the could have beens but we had a good talk, it went well.”
“Seemed to from my perspective. How about you ? Could have beens ?”
“Not on your life Mitchell Cutty, I couldn’t imagine spending my life with anyone but you.”
“Good to hear and back at you Amy Fleming.”
Amy leaned back as far as she could to catch his lips with hers for a moment before returning to her spot.
In the morning Amy woke to the closing of a car door and a truck start. Peeking out the window she saw Ty’s truck drive off and wondered if he was just getting out without a proper goodbye. When she finally showered and dressed and headed outside with a cup of tea and her breakfast of muffins and clementines she found a note tucked into the trailer door. It said that he was called away for a calving that wasn’t going well but expected to be back by nine when they were scheduled to leave.
Matt arrived after Mitch got his coffee going and decided to wait with them while it perked and join Mitch for a cup. He wasn’t surprised to find Ty gone for an emergency, that was his job as long as Kelsey had kids to get off to school and he was fine with it.
Before he left Matt got a call from Ty and explained that he was almost done but rather than make Mitch and Amy wait he’d meet them for their goodbye as a scenic pull off about 5 miles down the road south, the direction they were heading anyway.
Matt helped them pack up and load the horses, made sure they knew where to go and watched and waved as Amy pulled out first followed by Mitch and the trailer.
They parked and leaned against the overlook fence when Mitch received a text that Ty was on the way. He joined them 10 minutes later full of apologies that they discounted as completed unwarranted and totally understood.
Mitch went first and shook Ty’s hand before a brief bro hug and then walked off to close the trailer that they had opened for the horses benefit.
Amy walked over to Ty and gently ran a finger gently across his brow to move his hair away from his eyes.
“I’d forgotten just how green they were.” She said dropping her hand and smiling.
“Back home ?”
“I have to tell them Ty but we’ll leave contact up to you.”
“Thanks.”
Amy heard the door trailer handle locked into place and took a step forward to reach around Ty for a hug before stepping back.
“Find yourself a woman who loses herself in those eyes Ty and then hold on.”
“I’ll try ?”
“She can be a little older you know.”
“She’s my boss Amy.”
“And soon to be your partner, think about it, you’re a good catch with a big heart Ty Borden, it’s time to stop running. Oh, and I was technically your boss for a while there.” Then she leaned forward and kissed each of his cheeks gently. “Don’t be a stranger, you’d make Grandpa’s day with a call.”
“I will.”
“Goodbye Ty, it’s nice knowing you’re doing well.”
He walked her to her truck as Mitch got into the cab of his and Ty helped Amy in and watched her settle and buckle up before closing her door.
“Bye Amy, It was great seeing you and meeting Mitch.”
Amy smiled and nodded as Ty stepped back and she shifted into drive and drove out followed by Mitch who smiled and waved.
A few miles down the road Amy smiled when the next song was announced and she switched on the truck to truck radio to have Mitch join in when she started singing.
Together, they were the perfect couple.
“Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growing like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
All my memories gather 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye ……..”
The End.
