"Waa why aren't fandoms fun anymore" because you keep policing people's headcanons, make fun of cosplayers, make fun of selfshipers, make fun of beginner artists and just make fun of people for having fun 😐

WELCOME TO CRINGETOBER 2024
As promised, the list is here one month in advance to allow for preparation time! Just like last time, there are no hard rules. Just a fun exercise to draw things considered “cringe” by popular culture! No stress needed :)
I go more in depth on the list here, so check that out! of course, feel free to send asks my way if any questions remain <3
I’m really proud of this year’s list, honestly. And I’m incredibly excited for October! I hope everyone has fun!!

"We need to bring cringe/shame back" more like you need to learn how to sit with the discomfort of people liking and doing shit you don't like.
I myself sometimes feel it when I browse social media and then I remember that other people having fun isn't about me and guess what ? I stop feeling uneasy.
You don't viscerally need to say or do something about things you found cringe. You can just look away and mind your own business.

So much of what society treats as a joke is just mocking disability. Their idea of lazy is a disabled person trying to survive, whether that be living with their parents as an adult or using pre prepared food. Cringe culture is based entirely around mocking neurodivergent people and their interests. Symptoms and characteristics of disability such as urgency issues, drooling, tremors, tics, strabismus and speech impediments are used as cheap punchlines.
In children’s tv shows disabled characters such as those with speech impediments are treated as a joke, with symptoms of disability being portrayed as synonymous to stupid.
This idea is being taught from a young age in the media and it’s engrained into our language and culture. This goes beyond jokes, it contributes to the alienation of people with disabilities.
Once you start noticing these things you realise how constant and normalised it is.
Reducing an entire person to a punchline is wrong. Using a disability symptom as an insult is wrong. It’s disturbing how normalised it is to not treat people with basic decency and respect.

“Cringe culture is dead” isn’t just about letting 15 year olds cosplay MHA (but is also an issue). It’s about letting 50 year olds dance at clubs even if they’re “bad at it”, it's about letting 10 year old’s wear random bits of clothes to make an outfit that's “weird”, it’s about letting adult men experiment with artsy makeup looks even when they’re “messy”, it’s about letting teens scream music even if they “sound bad”.
“Cringe culture is dead” means letting people learn new hobbies at any age, experiment with their identity at any time, expressing themselves in ways outside the norm just as much as it means let 20 year olds play roblox.
Cringe culture is just social norms being forced on people rebelling against societies value consensus, it’s keeping people in brackets that are easier to market to.
Let cringe culture be dead in every aspect of life outside online spaces.

i think star trek will stay with me forever.
it has injected me with a permanent joy and whimsy and helped me unlearn shame/cringe culture. most importantly, it makes me see the good in humanity.
star trek has affected me in ways i never knew media could affect me. it keeps me optimistic about humanity’s future, and inspires me to do what is right no matter what. star trek makes me unashamed to be myself, however nerdy or silly I may be.
star trek is so important to me and i have a feeling it always will be.

“It corrupted you,” Marella whispered, eyes resting on Fintan’s blackened fingers. It was as if he had dipped his hand in an ink that refused to wash away. Cursedly permanent. The closer it crept to his palm, the more it faded. She had noticed it before, daring to ask, yet never had been granted an explanation.
Her thought hung between them, unspoken.
Will Everblaze mark me too?
“Yes, you ignorant child,” Fintan said scornfully, his sarcasm falling flat. “Careful, one wrong move and you’ll fall off that tightrope of yours. You’ll, fall, fall, fall, until you end up just like me. You know nothing of which you speak.”
Marella knew he had began with it meant it as a barb, but there was a sadness behind the thorns. Grief. A scarred veteran holding tight to a burden no one else survived to share. She watched as he tensed under her gaze, unrelenting. His eyes were locked on the Noxflare, harsh and unforgiving.
“There were six of us,” he began, eyes hardening. “All enraptured by the idea of the fire of the sun on earth. Of cosmic energy pulled together to create something unheard of. They sacrificed themselves to the cause. It was all in the name of science, was it not? Curiosity kills. It’s where the saying originated, you know. ‘Curiosity killed the cat?’ Three of the five were members of the Kat family. It is odd how a language evolves. ‘Don’t go playing with fire,’ is another.”
They do not deserve to be erased. Everyone knows the story. Five pyrokinetics died attempting to wield everblaze. Councillor Fintan is the only one remaining. That’s what people used to say. Then I was insane. A prisoner. Dead. Alive. A terrorist. To some, a visionary. But now I am a prisoner again, offered little comfort but the flower just out of my reach, my closest friends nothing but nameless ash.”
It is their souls, sunk deep into my skin. It is an ever-present reminder of how much has been lost. It is regret, guilt, hindsight, satisfaction, and overwhelming power, all at once. If my guilt is physical, it cannot break me.”
His laugh was a wheezing cackle, breath puffing out into the air.
“I have been broken before. And that little moonlark friend of yours will have to work much, much harder to break me again.”
He jerked his head towards Marella in a flash, pupils dilated.
“They’re what’s missing. They’re what’s missing.”
She stumbled backwards, the goblin guards moving in front of the icy bars to Fintan’s cell.
All of a sudden, she was a little girl again, dressed in a onesie her mom lost a battle to, entertaining guests at a party. They ask her to play piano after she talks about how she’s going to be as tall as it when she gets older.
So she scrambles on top of the bench, too distracted by the request to notice her mother missing from the crowd. It was a large party, after all, and she was a small child, too short to see over anyone’s head.
Scooting closer to the keys, she concentrates with all her might, stubby fingers stretching across an expanse of black and white.
She’s always struggled with the last chord, a tad bit out of her reach. Eager to impress, she overshoots. The chord is dark, jarring, and followed by a sickening thump and crack.
Before she could register why, partygoers were rushing to the floor-to-ceiling windows, perring outside with gasps, gagging at the sight. She pushes through the flock, palms pressed flush against cool glass.
A noble covers her eyes, but she pushes them away.
There is a shape on the grass. It looks like her mother, but it couldn’t possibly be her. The colors were the same, sure, but her mother’s body didn’t look like that. The person on the ground was twisted at unnatural angles, ribcage heaving with the effort it took to breathe.
She saw her father rush out, falling to the woman’s side, collapsing as he let out a guttural scream. A physician has rushed onto the premises, sprinting towards the pair.
“Oh,” she said, so quiet she was nearly silent. “That is Mom.”
Everything tilted, up, up, up. Her world shifted with her, because nothing could ever possibly be the same. Not after this.
Breaking out of her trance, Marella sucked in air, pale as can be.
She felt for her braids, exhaling with relief after finding them intact. Her mother wove them. They were her own way of remembering. Remembering that Caprise had good days. That even on her bad ones, Caprise loved her.
Some thought Marella would have been better off without a mother at all. She hated them for it. People who saw loss and twisted it to fit their own narrative. It struck her with an urge to let her fire spark, as a warning. Don’t come too close, or you’ll get burned. Watch out, or your family will end up like hers too. Yes, it’s contagious.
But she couldn’t help adding it to the list of ways she and Fintan were alike.
anyways, I saw these costume gloves and consider: Fintan
maybe summoning everblaze leaves an indelible mark on your fingers so fintan has a constant reminder of his guilt that he can never erase.

How can so many people complain about missing pre 2020 fandoms while furiously hating on those who used to run them
Mha "cringe" cosplayers, omegaverse ficwriters and fans, ao3/wattpad chronic users, artists who made those "derp humor" templates, fanon artists/enjoyers, comshippers, fujoshis with everlasting love to teacher x student stuff, hetalia/ch/cb fans etc etc, fandoms would be NOTHING without them
