Breast Cancer Prevention Starts with Self-Exams and Self-Care
Tumblr media
Understanding Breast Cancer: Support and Self-Exams for Women
One in eight American women will face a breast cancer diagnosis in her lifetime. This year alone, an estimated 310,720 women will be diagnosed with this disease. Given these statistics, it’s likely that everyone knows someone who has been personally affected by breast cancer.
To support those navigating this challenging journey, Dr. Andrew J. Shapiro, MD, FACS, Medical Director of the Advanced Breast Center at Wellington Regional Medical Center, leads a free breast cancer support group. This group is open to anyone who has experienced a breast cancer diagnosis or has supported a loved one through the process, regardless of where or when they received treatment.
The support group, hosted by Sheila Palacios, MSN-Ed, RN, OCN, Oncology Nurse Navigator, meets on the fourth Sunday of every month from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Wellington Regional Medical Center Community Room.
Dr. Shapiro emphasizes the importance of regular mammograms, recommending they begin at age 40, along with monthly breast self-exams.
“Home self-exams are an effective way to maintain good breast health and stay aware of any changes that you can discuss with your doctor,” Dr. Shapiro explains.
For effective self-exams, choose a specific day each month to make it a habit—like the first of the month. Keeping a journal or using your phone to track your findings can help you monitor any changes over time.
“A self-exam takes just a few minutes and can easily be done while getting dressed, lying in bed, or taking a shower,” says read more

Some of the familiar forms of cancer, which call for surgery are breast cancer, colon and rectum cancer, lung cancer . When identified on time and once the right surgical procedures are done on such patients, there are high chances that such patients will be cured.
Breast Cancer Surgery
Breast cancer surgery includes the lumpectomy that the doctor removes tumor and a little part of the healthy tissue around the tumor, mastectomy that doctor removes the entire breast.
The procedure performed therefore varies with the size as well as the stage of the cancer. Breast cancer surgery should therefore be done early and the hospital chosen should preferably be one with a good record of cancer surgery in Tirunelveli.

Navigating the Landscape of Breast Cancer: Understanding Type, Treatment, and Beyond
Breast cancer is an adversary to reckon with. It affects millions of lives, leading to a substantial health challenge, especially among women. Under this light, there arises an ardent need to get all details regarding the disease in the quest for knowledge on how to be empowered against this disease. So, all such resources, including a full-fledged guide from GoMedii, may help find one's way to be informed, prevent, and get cured.
Tumblr media
Understand the scenario: Types and their risk factors
Breast cancer is not a monolithic entity; it comes in many forms, each bearing its own identity and meaning, from ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) to invasive lobular carcinoma. Therefore, the distinction must be known for the purpose of individualized treatment. Importantly, it puts a lot of stress on the identification of risk factors, which may vary from genetic tendencies, hormonal status, lifestyle options, and environmental exposures. This enables one to duly engage in risk reduction strategies and early detection.
Signs and Symptoms: Interpreting Messages from the Body
Knowing the symptoms of breast cancer is like having a guide that can lead one towards timely intervention. The page explains palpable lumps, changes in breast size or shape, nipple abnormalities, and skin dimpling. When people act fast by showing or reporting these warning signs to a healthcare provider, they increase the chance of their diagnosis time being shortened; they reduce the time to treatment. This can help in better outcomes and perhaps improve the prognosis.
Test Tracks: From Doubt to Proof The path from suspicion to confirmation of breast cancer represents a series of diagnostic steps, with each of them playing a pivotal role in defining the nature and stage of the disease. Today this implies the use of mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and biopsy, guiding in this intricate space of breast pathology to decide upon an informed treatment strategy. That is definitely an accurate and thorough approach to medicine.
Treatment Modalities: Navigating the Maze of Options
Following the diagnosis of breast cancer, a patient usually has a variety of treatment options available, each of which has its subtleties, benefits, and potential side effects. Surgical interventions offer the way for tumor ablation through lumpectomy and mastectomy, with adjuvant therapies in the form of radiation, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies facilitating combat of residual disease and reduction of chances of relapse. The page is a guidepost explaining such treatment modalities to an extent that the individual can understand, through guided information, the need for informed dialogue with his or her healthcare team for cooperative, decision-based activity specific to the individual's situation.
Beyond Treatment
Enabling Holistic Health While treatment is the cornerstone of dealing with breast cancer, its domain encompasses dimensions that go far beyond medical interventions. Physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being intersect in the tapestry of survivorship, hence the keen interest in finding out about supportive care services, survivorship programs, and community resources. Through the facilitation of whole being, an individual becomes capable of facing the challenges of cancer with courage, strength, and a sense of being empowered, thus allowing hope and vitality to bloom even in the face of suffering. Conclusion
Through Knowledge-Based Empowerment In cases of breast cancer, knowledge becomes a strong ally that empowers humans to understand and manage the complexities of diagnoses, treatment, and survivorship with clarity and full agency. The detailed guide issued by GoMedii shines as a lighthouse, giving insights, resources, and support to people traveling the road of breast cancer. People will start accepting the journey only when they are cognizant of the situation and proactively engage in it; this would make them resilient, determined, and believe in not fighting the battle of breast cancer alone. A link to informative pages such as a guide on breast cancer by GoMedii would do much to enable people and their communities to be able to stand against this formidable disease.

Doctor!Coriolanus Snow x Naive!Reader
power imbalance, dubcon, corruption kink
dead dove do not eat
Tumblr media
You’d go in for a full checkup, trying to stay ahead of your health. He checked your blood pressure, reflexes, listening to your breathing.
Doctor Snow has a habit of wanting to work in a cold room, and that’s made very evident from the way your nipples are straining against the thin fabric of your dress, creating two pebbles which made eye contact near impossible for him.
And you’d been so quick to follow his every task, looking up with expectant, nervous eyes. Lifting your arms with barely any prompt, twisting your torso for him to roam his stethoscope over your body. And something dark is starting to tug inside of him, something unstoppable.
“You seem nervous, miss” he starts with a voice full of fake concern, “is there any reason for this?”
Your face flushes and you twist your fingers in your lap.
“Oh.. well, um, it’s just my first, real doctors appointment” you mumble.
First. First. The word rings in Coriolanus’ mind. First means clean, first means uncorrupted. He wants to change that.
“I understand your nerves, miss, but there’s no need for them” he answers with a sweet smile, but he can’t hide the sinister glint in his eyes.
He goes over to his desk, ‘checking’ what else there’s left for him to check.
“Next thing I need to check for is for breast cancer” he states in a professional voice, walking back to the examining table where you’re sitting. “So I need you to lay down and, if you’re comfortable, the exam is best done on bare skin.”
Your eyes shoot up at his face but you’re met with a calm, almost knowing, look. In practically a trance your hands move up to unbutton the three buttons over the bust of your dress before pulling the fabric down to reveal your breasts to him.
It takes everything in Snow to not groan, to not ravage you on sight. But he knows that this is a delicate situation and too much desperation from his side will push it to break. So he just motions for you to lay down, which you do, and he places his hands on of your boobs.
“What I’m doing is checking for lumps” he explains in an attempt to prolong the façade that this is completely routine, “just say the word if I’m pushing too hard.”
His fingers start to move over you, digging into the fat of your breast. To his credit he does do a check for breast cancer. And he makes sure to check both of them very thoroughly. But then he can’t help himself from just touching you.
Roaming his hands over your tits, moving them together and then apart. He moves the tips of his fingers to your nipple, moving in tight soft circles.
And you let out a small, small gasp. It’s embarrassing, a professional just doing his work and you’re about to moan. But the pleasure was so overwhelming, so unexpected.
“There’s a lot of nerves in nipples” Dr Snow starts to explain, focusing on keeping his breathing controlled, “it’s important to check to see if there’s proper blood flow.”
He moves his hands so his knuckles are supporting your tits, either thumb on either nipple as he continues playing with them.
Your lips part and there’s a very faint line from your furrowed brows, but it feels so good that it’s hard for you to stop yourself from moaning.
And the sight is making something else hard, Snows eyes flicking between your boobs in his hands to your face mixed between embarrassment and pleasure. He can’t stop his fingers from giving your nipples a slight pinch and tug before moving away from you.
“Now I only have to give you a gynecological check..” he tries to say authoritatively, and turns around to grab gloves, “may I remove your underwear?”
And you’re in such a haze, brain already slightly fried from his fingers, so you just let your head fall in a nod.
He backs his chair down so he’s sitting by your legs, hands moving up your dress to pull down your pretty panties decorated with flowers. He folds the skirt of your dress over to get a better display of you. He feels his cock twitch obnoxiously in his pants at the sight of wetness that’s already pooling in your slit.
The doctor’s hands spreads you apart, forcing down the groan moving its way up his throat, and moves the tip of his middle finger to your hole. He pushes in gently, your self-made lubrication making it almost too easy, and he hears your breath hitch.
And you’re so tight, almost too tight, around just one of his fingers and it’s making his head spin. It also fills with dirty fantasies and the sight of it disappearing into your heat is not helping. After a few pumps he moves to add a second finger, and it’s a little stretch but you take it so well.
He moves his other hand so his thumb can move over your clit, and your teeth push into your bottom lip to stop every moan threatening to spill out.
“This is another very important nerve” he mutters, putting some extra pressure on your clit to clarify what he means.
His eyes move from your pretty pussy to your face, contorted in pleasure and obviously keeping your sounds in.
“It is very normal, and encouraged, to feel pleasure from this exam, miss” Snow explains, like this is protocol, “it is completely fine to.. emit sounds.”
With the blood for his brain drained to his cock he has a hard time keeping up with professional jargon. Even so his words of calming makes you release your lip from your teeth, letting your mouth hang open at first. But then his fingers graze your g-spot and the moan just falls out.
“To.. um, to make sure everything is working properly I need to bring you to orgasm.”
Coriolanus knows he’s pushing it, but your own words are still ringing in his head. It’s your first, how are you supposed to know this isn’t how doctors treat their patients. Plus after hearing your cunt squelch around his fingers he can’t possibly stop now.
So he’s pushing his fingers into you faster, curling them when they’re in the deepest parts of you, his other hand is working idly against your clit.
Your mouth is now, almost, shamelessly emitting all those sounds you swallowed earlier. He looks up at you with dark eyes, seeing how in your haze of pleasure you had not yet buttoned up your dress again, your tits still on display for him.
He feels you start to clench around his fingers after switching from circles over your clit to moving them back and forth, “yeah? That feel good?” He mutters, desperately wanting to feel you clench like that around his cock.
You feel your stomach starts to twist, legs tensed to the point of shaking and your eyes squeezed closed.
“You’re gonna cum, huh?” Snow taunts, moving his fingers impossibly faster.
And a moment later you’re stunned by white hot pleasure, gushing around his fingers. Every sound is muffled like your ears are stuffed with cotton, you can’t even register the words Doctor Snow are saying as he throws away his gloves before helping you button up your dress. He offers his hand to you and passes you your bag, bidding you adieu.
You’re so out of it that you don’t realize that you’re not wearing your panties as you walk out of his office, unaware that they were placed in Doctor Coriolanus Snows back pocket.

Outline for modern genderbend svsss au where they're all trans milfs (except for Binghe who is trans still but not a milf) cinematic universe:
[Act 1] Shen Yuan was on his path to a teaching degree at age 22~23 and began shadowing high school tenured teacher Shen Jiu (no relation, they just have the same last name and hate it) where he changes a young Binghe's life by protecting him from bullying and just generally being a better teacher than sj. Right before Binghe's last year of school, sy's health takes a sudden decline, he's hospitalized, and he has to postpone his degree. Through a miscommunication, Binghe believes that sy was fired for having too much contact w Binghe and is now somewhere else- devastated, he enrolls at the prestigious, yet secretly abusive, uni that sy had pushed him to apply to, with the goal of becoming successful enough to pull strings and give sy whatever he wants
[Act 2] While hospitalized, Shen Yuan staves off boredom by being terminally online. Through this, he meets and quickly becomes unlikely friends with 40 something year old mid tier author Shang Qinghua. Sqh offers sy an admittedly unglamorous job as her editor since he's pretty much given up on his degree at this point, as well as a place to stay away from his family when he gets out of the hospital. Sy accepts and after moving in, gets to know sqh, who is a trans woman who transitioned in her 30s when her first big book deal put her in a stable enough position to do so. Sy realizes she is also trans; the two gradually make sqh's newest work a bestseller and she's suddenly inundated with publishing and movie deals. Happy times. Meanwhile, Binghe becomes a demon (frat boy)
[Act 3] Sy hits 30, now comfortable in her cushy job as sqh's editor/agent. Unfortunately, she is tragically diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after her birthday. She undergoes a double mastectomy and luckily fully recovers with a strong support network, but the stress has taken its toll on her and her health and she begins going grey early. Binghe, now also a girl yippee, received unexpected inheritance money sometimes during uni and used it to become a highly successful businesswoman with connections throughout the education, political, and publishing spheres (because she remembers shen yuan was a big reader and wanted to be a lit professor). Now on the hunt for her old teacher, she's tipped off to her new life by business partner gilf-fucker Mobei Jun (38) who recently started seducing sqh
misc: in her 20s sqh made some quick cash by donating sperm, so biologically she is actually probably a grandma at this point

i bought a DNA test - here are my predictions based on the DNA (asteroid 55555) persona chart
23 & me + health is very comprehensive, so i am just going to touch on some of the topics i already understand in their test breakdown from their website. later when the results are back, i will go over whether i was correct about the topics in this post and on the stuff that i didn't know about!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ancestry
i know for sure that i am polish and slovakian so tesinsko (38674) 10h and sextile saturn makes sense. těšínsko is basically the dividing line czechoslovakia and poland. so to have that in my dna 10h status makes me believe it will be pretty prevalent in the test breakdown - 50% +. plus i have polonia (1112) conjunct moon and that is very true - i got it from my mom's side lol.
danmark (2117) in the 2h rx makes me feel like i am not as danish as my father told me i was nor...
am i as german as he made it seem. 7h germania (241) is not as convincing plus the lack of aspects just makes it all the less convincing...
italia (477), hispania (804), and copenhagen (13586) in the 4h. perhaps i will revoke my statement above about the danish ancestry, but we will see. i do believe italian and hispanic descent might be probable based on these placements.
i know i am welsh but i can't find an asteroid related to wales :(...
i know that i am european, so i didn't run any of the other countries' asteroids through. if something else pops up, i will run them through in the follow up to check the DNA persona's accuracy.
trait report
ability to match musical pitch: air venus at 17° - i am gonna say this comes back positive.
asparagus odor detection: mercury at 1° conjunct chiron; i definitely will have a heightened sense of smell.
bitter taste: capricorn mercury... get it? its a saturn ruled mercury? saturn can be bitterness? i don't know i thought it was funny...
earwax type: on the other hand... a saturn ruled mercury - soft wax (i'm of the mindset there are only two options hard or soft wax).
health
type 2 diabetes: it kind of looks like i can beat the odds... like venus square saturn - that's just genetic. BUT venus sextiles moon and pluto AND conjuncts uranus - these are all planets of change, so i feel like i can/will prevent diabetes.
brca: it's not looking too hot and i know my father's mother passed from breast cancer at a rather young age i think she passed at 40... my moon conjuncts pluto and is opposite jupiter. fortunately, it conjuncts chiron, so i might beat it or catch it early thanks to the test.
thrombophilia: it's a given... uranus square saturn - the blood flow is just not that good.
alzheimer's: mercury conjunct sun and chiron AND sextile mars makes me believe it's fine and i'm good - i will get the negative here.

Bob in female fight club au. Thoughts
Probably named Marge
Rather than doing a direct inversion (ie making the character the exact opposite, much tits -> no tits, etc) I think sort of an analogue would work better riffing off the motherly role Bob has, in combination with the group being for uterine cancer/ovarian cancer
The women come together, and they cry, cry, cry, over lost husbands, who left them because they got cancer, because overwhelmingly, men leave if their wife gets cancer, over lost relationships with children, who stayed but resent them, over lost Motherhood, that thing you were told was your worth but now you are told you're shit. Remaining Women Together. Despite. Despite despite despite.
What is it, about purposes. Want to see misery, see women fed their own physical oppression as lost salvation.
Marge, whatever her name is, her husband divorced her, left her with the kids and medical bills stacked as high as she is tall. She is thankful she still has her kids, it makes her feel like she's still worth something. She's had to try and get back into the workforce. No one wants to hire dear former stay at home mother Marge. She shows you her kids in her wallet in her purse and there are no pictures of her. There's a picture of her old husband, which she keeps to show her kids if they ask. They're old enough to go to school now, which is good, because it gives her more time to work. Life is hard, but she's doing her best.
Marge, who is on hormone therapy so she doesn't get those "side effects" she's heard about from other total hysterectomy patients, the future of early dementia and degeneration and horror. Who does pelvic floor exercises in hopes it will minimise the fallout of the surgery. Who carefully rips every hair out of her upper lip and chin because even if it would be normal for a woman, a woman whose gone through menopause, a woman at all — she knows, it's probably the estrogen tipping back over into testosterone, and she can't handle any more losses. She compensates. They all do.
The support group is her Me Time. It is the single hour plus half hour commute she can afford once a week for herself. So she gets here, and she cries, cries, cries, and the others cry with her, all over how their lives have fallen apart since they got ovarian cancer, got breast cancer, and their lives derailed because they can't be proper women anymore.
They cry in their waterproof makeup. Another product to promise womanhood. Identify yourself via consumption. Identify yourself by covering yourself up.
And when she finds fight club. When she finds something that says, jesus fuck. You are more than your children. You are more than your ability to have kids. You aren't a failed woman, that's a sack of shit you've been sold wholesale. When she finds something that promises her she will grow, achieve personhood, not because she was the ultimate martyr mother, not because she played the game of human or woman, but because it promises a freedom from all that, identification and repulsion of such sickening chains. When she stops worrying about her slightly deepened voice, and works to keep her dose even keel for her health, to avoid the toxic highs of accidentally juicing, rather than the lesser effects of a black lip hair or two. When she has a photo, not of herself in her wallet, but of the things she makes with other women from fight club, of the one view of the sunset from that one parking lot that she always thought was wonderful, when she has things in her wallet for her and her enjoyment. When she has corded muscle and a built up spine, when she sits her kids down and explains why they only see dad one weekend every other month, all the fun holidays, because dad decided staying with her through cancer was too hard even when she stayed with him through four lost jobs pissed away in alcohol and lottery tickets.
And Marge, who gets shot by the police on a regulation chill-and-drill assignment for Project Mayhem. Whose obituary in the newspaper talks about the children she left behind, how she battled cancer and kept caring for them, how she was such a strong mother, whose kids would now be shipped off to their grieving father who is so, so brave and stunning for standing up and taking care of the kids he made and dropped as soon as his live-in servant had a few issues. Her name is Marge Paulson, and she was forty-eight years old. She was a person. She will be remembered in the annals of Project Mayhem, lest what little there was of her be stolen from the world. She was killed by Project Mayhem, but they're the only ones who will remember Marge Paulson.

Five Tips for Memoir Writing When the Words Feel Too Hot to Touch
Tumblr media
Memoir writing can be powerful, but often times, requires the writer to look back on difficult times in their lives. NaNo Participant Emily Henderson talks about her own experiences with memoirs and gives tips on navigating painful experiences.
Content Warning: Death of a child to cancer.
I've been working on a memoir for what feels like 1000 years. In the beginning, I wrote about how, by the time I was 18, I lost both of my parents, one to a plane crash and the other to breast cancer. I wrote about my descent into alcoholism and eventual path to sobriety. I wrote about marriage and motherhood, all against the backdrop of my love for running. I thought this would be my memoir.
But then, in 2019, my youngest son Aiden was diagnosed with brain cancer, and four months later, he was gone. Suddenly, the memoir I had in my mind no longer made sense, and I stopped writing. It wasn't until the pandemic that I returned to journaling and running to process my grief. I decided to run every street in my city, and thus a new shape for my memoir began to form.
In 2021, I threw my hat in the NaNoWriMo ring. I began knowing how hard it would be to write about my son and all the trauma surrounding his death. I wanted to protect my mental health while I tried to put words into the most painful moments of my life. Below are a few strategies I employed to help me win NaNo.
1. Gather Source Material
I re-read old journals, blog posts, and social media posts. I highlighted different themes and organized them into sections. For instance, I marked scenes from my childhood and those about my son with different colored highlighters. The idea is to avoid getting lost in memories when the focus should be on writing.
2. S.O.S. Journal Prompts
On days when the words just aren't flowing, I like to have a few journal prompts handy. I write them down on index cards and pull them out when I get stuck. I made some of my biggest writing breakthroughs with these prompts.
“The doctor said….”
“On a good day….”
“At my age….”
3. Change your entry point.
I wrote around and around the scene where my son dies, possibly trying to change the ending, but I couldn’t seem to get it right. Rather than bang my head against the wall, I came at it from a different angle. I wrote about my husband and how our marriage grew stronger through our son's treatment. Then when it came time to write the worst moment of my life, where my husband and I hold each other as we say our final goodbyes, I felt more relaxed and confident that I could do the scene justice.
4. Write a rant.
I have a lot of anger around the loss of my son, and I find writing a long rant about how unfair it all is, helps to clear the cobwebs to find the truth in the narrative. I like to set a timer for 20 minutes and write nonstop, even if all I write is, “I miss my son,” over and over again.
5. Non-judgmental social support
Writing about trauma is emotionally draining, and I knew I would need to decompress after tapping into the harder parts of my story. I scheduled lunch with close friends with whom I could talk openly. They often made connections I couldn’t see, and that led to even more writing breakthroughs.
Once again, life keeps happening, and in January, I gave birth to my fourth child. She is next to me as I write this, cooing and grunting while she sleeps. It seems my memoir has shifted once again, and I have a perfect epilogue to my story.
