Kill your darlings by MesserMoon, a fantastic fic you could read at AO3 for free.
I love this story, and am happy to have it in my collection. That said, I can tell you that this binding was very eventful.
I think I will change my name to Not Perfct bindery. The two volumes of this book took me a long time, because I was buried in workload. It seems that every day I picked up this binding project, I made some mistake. The worst one was sewing the signatures too tightly so it was impossible to round the spine. Another mistake I made while cutting the fabric, as can be seen, the covers were in different proportions. This is my 60th binding; and I must learn that in excess of confidence lies the danger.

Toolmaking workshop in Greece with Dimitris Koutsipetsidis
What better than combine vacation and hobby/work one enjoys?
I had the pleasure to attend a toolmaking workshop held by Dimitiris at his bindery in Athens and what a joy. Within 1 day we learned the basics of cutting and shaping brass tools with files and/or power tools (it can be done solely with files, but let's be honest here, power tools make some of the steps waaaaaay easier and faster) as well as preparing the handles and setting the brass securely in the handles.
I did not expect to go home with 5 brass tools to call my very own to be honest. He picked wonderful shapes to start with that will be very versatile to use in different designs. In addition, and after having tried our hands on all the basic shapes (straight lines, convex and concave curves which really make up pretty much every shape), we had the chance to go for a shape of our own choosing.
It was a wonderful experience so many thanks at Dimitris' for putting this workshop together I learned a lot and had a lot of fun.

FIGHT FOR THE ARTS AND CRAFTS!!!
FIGHT FOR THE LEGACY OF A CULTURE!!!
The book binders, the shoemakers, the secrets of fabric and wood. What will happen when all is automatized, what will happen if we grow far and far away from the things we use and do.
Fight to keep alive the legacy. The wisdom and knowledge macerated by generations. Someone has to carry the torch!
#ahshashahsa ok I know it sounds like shit you'd find in a pamphlet#But I think a lot of what it means to be part of a hobby of a subculture and all of that#And I just saw the post about the user that started into bookbinding to bind beloved fanfics#and MAN#What will happen to the shoemaker in my town when he dies?#There are another 15 but they all will eventually die. And many people buy more shoes from fabrics in the other side of the world#The book binder closed his workshop years ago#and here I'm trying to bind a book with a youtube tutorial#what will happen when the secrets of tools and craftmanship die?#The little secrets. The secret wisdom. The correct way to cut fabric#The best posture to weave a basket. The divinitaion meaning of every card in a playing deck#Being part of a hobby is like being suddenly part of a whole guild#but we're so far apart#will someone pass the knowledge of how to make a nice table? will someone remember?#if a tree falls in a forest

Flooat Studio x kamipaper UPCYCLED I Bookbinding Workshop - workshop
An upcycled bookbinding and weaving workshop in collaboration with Flooat Studio. Participants were welcomed into the space with a cup of healthy tea by Flooat Studio and Malaysian sweet treats by Sueperlicious. Participants then sifted through the collection of sweet wrappers that kamipaper had collected, to choose wrappers that they wanted to weave onto their mini notebook covers. Participants were also encouraged to bring wrappers that they would like to incorporate onto their covers, whether nostalgic or from their cultures. After weaving the selected wrappers onto their covers, we then made a mini coptic bound notebook together that the participants got to take home.
This collaboration came together as we wanted to have a workshop that could be therapeutic, meditative and to slow down especially as city life can be so fast moving. It was also a way to engage everyone to converse with their neighbours and have thoughtful conversations during the workshop.
It was the first time for me to showcase this workshop using upcycled sweet wrappers combined with coptic binding, thanking Flooat Studio for suggesting I teach a workshop like this and for being so encouraging and supportive during the preparation and actual workshop. Photo credits: kamipaper, Flooat Studio & Alison Hui.

Publication Workshop 23-10-23 Pt.2
In the second half of the day, we learned how to do bookbinding and also some bits of folding/origami. We shared the prints we made in the morning with each other to create small books. We were given yellow card, a dowel, a needle and thread. We learned how to bind the book which I found quite handy. I adored the finished product, it felt quite polished and professional.
After the book, we learned different folding techniques which we could use to create complex shapes like accordion books. This really inspired me to revisit my previous 2D work and to fold them in ways that disrupt the flow of piece. Speaking of flow, I felt a great sense of flow while creating the foldable pieces which I thouroghly enjoyed and would hope to reach again.

My edition of Modern Love by Tacky Tiger- This is an amazing Drarry story that can be read for free on AO3.
What did I achieve? I accomplished several things with this binding, the one I'm most proud of is that I managed to rounded and backed the spine. Also, I used linen to make the book cloth and I think it turned out well. It's the first time I applied HTV on linen, and I liked the result. I haven't placed the title and the author on the spine yet, I think I will do it by gluing a label. What can I improve? The end paper didn't look good, in fact, I'm thinking about reapplying it.
I must improve the backing, as I think I hit the block too hard with the hammer. Oops! What should I learn? I'm not sure when to guillotine the text block so that it looks good when I curve the spine. I sew it's before curving it, but since I use a looser stitch, I don't know if it will be alright.
The book feels good in my hands, the texture of the linen is nice, and the size is comfortable. The curved spine looks beautiful on my shelf.
This copy is for my personal use only, remember if you want a copy you can always learn how to bind. It's not rocket science!

Disrupt Project - Publication workshop
(6/11/23)
In the publication workshop we first leant what, and how a risograph works. A printer built to be almost completely sustainable and prints in limited layered colours.
We then used markmarking to create and print a pattern that represents what ‘disrupt’ is to us.
For my 2nd print, that was to go on the back of the sheet, I drew various toys I’ve had over the years using my photos as reference, and wrote a few words about what I associate with each.
I learnt about the values of colours and how to work with a limited palette and print my work.
Later on, we bound our works together to create booklets, I found this difficult at first but with help managed to understand what to do. Also adding extra bits of paper for texture and interruption in the booklet.

Flooat Studio x kamipaper UPCYCLED II Bookbinding Workshop - workshop
After the happy collaboration with Flooat Studio in May, I was invited back again into the tearoom for another upcycled bookbinding workshop in the Autumn. Participants were welcomed into the space with a cup of healthy tea by Flooat Studio and a dim sum snack. They then sifted through the collection of sweet wrappers that kamipaper had collected, to choose wrappers that they wanted to weave onto their mini notebook covers. Participants were also encouraged to bring wrappers that they would like to incorporate onto their covers, whether nostalgic or from their cultures. After weaving the selected wrappers onto their covers, we then made a mini coptic bound notebook together that the participants got to take home.
This collaboration came together again as the feedback we got was encouraging and lovely. We created the workshop to be therapeutic, meditative and slow, as city life can be so fast moving. It was great to see everyone engaged in conversations with their neighbours and having thoughtful conversations during the workshop.
I am deeply grateful to Flooat Studio for always opening up their space and for being so supportive during the preparation and actual workshop.
