Flooat Studio x kamipaper UPCYCLED II Bookbinding Workshop - workshop

After the happy collaboration with Flooat Studio in May, I was invited back again into the tearoom for another upcycled bookbinding workshop in the Autumn. Participants were welcomed into the space with a cup of healthy tea by Flooat Studio and a dim sum snack. They then sifted through the collection of sweet wrappers that kamipaper had collected, to choose wrappers that they wanted to weave onto their mini notebook covers. Participants were also encouraged to bring wrappers that they would like to incorporate onto their covers, whether nostalgic or from their cultures. After weaving the selected wrappers onto their covers, we then made a mini coptic bound notebook together that the participants got to take home.

This collaboration came together again as the feedback we got was encouraging and lovely. We created the workshop to be therapeutic, meditative and slow, as city life can be so fast moving. It was great to see everyone engaged in conversations with their neighbours and having thoughtful conversations during the workshop.

I am deeply grateful to Flooat Studio for always opening up their space and for being so supportive during the preparation and actual workshop.

early 'rabbit run' techno freaking out because 'gary' the rabbit ate something rabbits definitely shouldn't eat and now he's spending hours watching this bunny and coaxing it to drink water and asking phil if there's a vet on the server and phil is like 'that's the most wretched looking rabbit ever m8 no vet would even treat it'.

and then later, after the reveal, techno is like 'hey dream does chocolate kill you' and dream is just 'no wtf are you stupid' and techno leans back like '.....bruh'

thats her whole deal is she hoards anything PINK thats why she's the way she is the DNA ingrained Dragon Obsession that's considered a hoard lolol i like to think she even had a 'hating pink' phase before she realized that her Hoard was pink things and had a small ohno phase where she knew but still tried to deny it and even tried different things to hoard before she just accepted that her dragon brain simply Wants Pink it doesn't matter how redundant it is wrappers plastic anything that would usually be thrown away if its pink she simply must keep it

she tries to stick them in scrapbooks at least to keep them together but alas the books build up lmfao but at least they're organized by color hue, saturation, texture ect. however she can organize and have an excuse to ogle and touch pink things sksksk she'll dig through the scrapbooks and look at them over and over again for up to hours some days especially if shes struggling with things she will tinker with her collection a lot more 🌸 speaking of dragon hoards Mangule's hoard is skateboards (which reflects the fact that she may be Ollie's foil bc he has an absolute assload of boards as well) BUT the main way she finds herself collecting skateboards is by taking the skateboards of those she kills, so her 'hoard room' is just a big mass of ghost boards that she digs about in to look at and i feel like rarely if she really likes the way a skateboard looks she may solely kill someone JUST for their board bc at this point her mindset is the notion of having a board from someone she killed makes it all the more valuable so her hoard is pretty eerie if your in that room 🤫

Flooat Studio x kamipaper UPCYCLED I Bookbinding Workshop - workshop

An upcycled bookbinding and weaving workshop in collaboration with Flooat Studio. Participants were welcomed into the space with a cup of healthy tea by Flooat Studio and Malaysian sweet treats by Sueperlicious. Participants then sifted through the collection of sweet wrappers that kamipaper had collected, to choose wrappers that they wanted to weave onto their mini notebook covers. Participants were also encouraged to bring wrappers that they would like to incorporate onto their covers, whether nostalgic or from their cultures. After weaving the selected wrappers onto their covers, we then made a mini coptic bound notebook together that the participants got to take home.

This collaboration came together as we wanted to have a workshop that could be therapeutic, meditative and to slow down especially as city life can be so fast moving. It was also a way to engage everyone to converse with their neighbours and have thoughtful conversations during the workshop.

It was the first time for me to showcase this workshop using upcycled sweet wrappers combined with coptic binding, thanking Flooat Studio for suggesting I teach a workshop like this and for being so encouraging and supportive during the preparation and actual workshop. one time when i was a kid i was like "im gonna use my allowance to buy my mom a present" but i was a kid and my allowance was like a couple dollars and the only store i could get to on my own was walgreens and so anyway i bought her a little bottle of strawberry potpourri oil because for some reason i loved potpourri and also to me i thought this was like the best smelling "perfume" i had ever encountered. she accepted the gift kindly and probably thought it was very funny and i never saw or smelled it again for obvious reasons.

anyway today im sampling Bibliotheque by Byredo and I was expecting by the name for it to be something papery and dry or musty and spicy or anything that in any way reminded me of books but it fully just smells like that strawberry potpourri oil 😭😂
