Book Blurb:
A young woman with Bollywood roots hires a barista to act as her boyfriend for her cousin’s wedding—only to learn you can’t fake chemistry like theirs—in this desi romance from the author of Match Me If You Can
Harsha Godbole has never felt love from her family, but she’s always been surrounded by their Bollywood business mogul wealth. Now back in Bangalore after studying in America, Harsha is ready to start her adult life without their money. But that becomes impossible when everything she’s worked so hard for comes crumbling down. Fearful of showing up to her cousin’s upcoming wedding as a failure—and worse, a single failure—Harsha decides to put her trust fund to good use . . .
Veer Kannan does everything for his family. He even gave up his dreams of becoming a Bollywood star to get a more consistent gig . . . although working as a barista wasn’t really the big break he was hoping for. It’s a humble life, but a happy one, nonetheless. Then financial aid falls through for his brother’s first year in business school, so now Veer needs to come up with a large sum of money, and fast.
Harsha’s outlandish plan to hire her favorite barista as her fake boyfriend for the weekend-long wedding bash is received surprisingly well by Veer, who hopes this will be his ticket to Bollywood. But Harsha and Veer get way more than they bargained for in this heartwarming journey to finding unexpected love and courage.
Review:
Whats a girl to do when your family mistakenly assumes your barista is the perfect boyfriend you've been dating... and now you have to attend a family wedding and the only option is to pay said barista/aspiring actor to be your fake boyfriend... only you're beginning to fall for him and you can't tell if he's only in it for the money, if his feelings are real or if he's just that good of an actor.... and if you both could make it work despite being from two completely different worlds. Harsha Godbole has cut herself off from her family, her wealthy multi-million dollar family that has hug ties to the Bollywood world. Harsha just wants to make it as a photographer without her family's name attached to her life, but she finds herself in a rut: her boyfriends keep dumping her for someone else, she hasn't made it big or gotten a steady job, and she's developed a huge crush on her cute barista. When Harhsa's perfect cousin mistakes Harsha's barista for her boyfriend and Harsha goes with it she finds herself in a new problem... and the only person she can count on is her barista to help her. Veer Kannan has always done everything for his family ever since his father left them. Veer works to put his brother through school while helping his mom. Veer dreams about making it as an actor but he just has not had his big break yet and spends his days working at a coffee shop and crushing on a certain customer... but when she asks him to be her fake boyfriend and he needs money to pay for his brother's upcoming tuition bill they strike an agreement: Veer will pretend to be Harsha's perfect boyfriend for her family for the wedding weekend and Harsha will pay him the full amount to meet his brother's tuition. Harsha and Veer come from two different worlds but the more time they spend together the harder it becomes to see where the line between faking a relationship and being in a relationship is. Can they make it through the weekend without anyone catching onto them and will they finally give into the feelings they have for each other? This was a sweet read, it's very much a slow burn fake relationship read and it was an easy one to get through. I adored the author's previous book and this one was just a fine read for me. I'm a sucker for a fake relationship and though I wish there was a bit more in the relationship department for these two, it was overall a fun read.

Dear the love of my life,
Once again I attempt writing to you. But this time with a more grown up and different perspective. And yet with all this perspective, the words are harder to come out now. Everything feels too much, a lot of it hopeless, a lot of it doomed. But with the little hope and faith I find, I write this to you. To you who I know is out there. To you who is figuring his life out.
Where are you now? Bangalore? London? Mumbai? Toronto? Badlapur? New Mexico? Seoul? Delhi, perhaps? Wherever you are, I send you the kind of energy you need the most right now. As of 23rd August, 2022, my love, what is it that you need? Is it the warmth of someone's sincerity? Is it a miracle to fix a very sticky situation at work or home? Is it strength that your body needs? Is it strength that your mind needs? A good, comfort meal? Peace? Whatever it is, I ask the universe to send it to you kindly, timely, consistently, and abundantly.
The person I am right now is seeking something so intensely to a point that I have started to stray away from my values and beliefs. To a point that I have started to treat breadcrumbs like a gracious feast prepared specially for me. But if I love bread so much and there are supply chain issues, shouldn't I be strategic and figure out ways to fix them? Quarter by quarter but fix them? That starts now.
As I sit in Third Wave Café sipping on a very milky, very sweet iced coffee with a flower bouquet I curated for my friend who is sitting across me writing a letter to his to-be fiancé, as I feel cold due to the air conditioner for the first time in Bangalore, as I think about everything that's happened in the last five months, I now know this.
This is not the life I want. This is not the life I am going to continue to let myself live. From now on I am going to make decisions that protect me, that provide me with the best, that bring me peace, and that give me power. For I am going to bloom into the person that has always been inside me, waiting politely for me to recognize how precious I am. And I truly hope that you too are able to make the decisions that honor the divine in you and pacify the undivine.
We will meet. We have met. We exist. Soon. Always. Other than this, I have no declarations of love to make. I have no expectations to articulate. We will build and we will nurture and we will love exactly how it is precious to us. And we will laugh and laugh and laugh.
Love,
Nikki

Anyway, could I maybe get like Bangalore x reader hcs? For me? Perchance?? 🫶🫶

That's all I have to say

Bangalore x Reader Headcannons
Contains: NSFW further below
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
《SFW》
• Bangalore enjoys fitness and likes to encourage you to follow her health routines but she won't force you if you don't wanna
• Gym dates, even if it just consists of you watching her workout and being her hype man
• But she's overjoyed when you join in, spotting you and hyping you up, pushing you to do your best
• But I feel like she also enjoys dates and hangouts that make her feel like a normal person you know?
• Like she enjoys her skills but sometimes she wants to forget the games and her intense responsibilities
• She probably likes walks, or drives, just going places without any specific locations in mind
• Walking through towns and just going into whatever stores or buildings interest you, leading to soft dates at cafes or galleries
• Honestly I feel like she'll enjoy anything as long as it's with the person she loves, it could be a trip to the firing range for training or a nice getaway at a beach and she'll be all for it as long as you're coming along too
• She bought like 10 cookbooks when you started dating just so she could cook food for you, making sure that you're taken care of and maybe the praise for making such good food is a nice bonus for her too
• She calls you the classics like, babe, hun, shit like that but she loves being a bit possessive with stuff like my love, my dear, my girl, or my boy, mwah chefs kiss I love it
• Her love languages are definitely quality time and acts of service
• Simple acts of service like cooking meals for each other or tidying up
《NSFW》
• My brain automatically says dominant top but honestly I feel like she'd be softer and more vulnerable
• If it's a hookup or with someone she's not super close with then yeah she's probably dominant and in charge, but with people she loves she'd rather let go of that side of herself and just give in, let someone else be in charge for once
• Of course she'll please you and be dominant when she wants to, but I like the idea of just sweet, loving sex with Anita instead of rough, lust driven sex with Bangalore
• She absolutely loves it when you ride her, maybe you'll even hear her beg for it
• Idk if she'd have any piercings but she probably has some hidden tattoos for you to find 🤭
• She mostly praises you, maybe she'll add in a little degration if you're really being needy or bratty
• She's weak to any sort of teasing, you could barely drag your fingers across her skin and she'd fold in an instant, getting all flustered and needy for you
• She'll lift you up onto any and every surface in your house and ravage you
• Pressed against the wall MMMMMMMM
• Eye contact <3
• Her favorite positions are definitely riding and missionary
• She calls you every pet name that you can add "my" in front of, my love, my girl, my boy, my baby, or just mine
• And she loves being called sir and/or ma'am, even when she's bottoming, and also just Anita
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you for reading all the way through! I hope you're having a good day :)
Also, if you perhaps like this maybe uhh touch that little heart down there just a lil bit yknow, and maybe do a little reblog action if you know what I mean, it really helps me grow as a creator and gives me the motivation to write even more <3

This silver stale.
In their movies. Slipped sights walk over heights.
In Bangalore rain, are you hoping over to Ranchi's.
Are you stoning poetry girls to make face of yours?
In love, love so her, you don't know, without or within.
My sweet girl swinging her love to you in forms of his.
In Bihar, there is a blotting, you say to leave and you burn to dust because she is sun.
Japanese love dinners in the nearby Rukah.
Makah, no names no her volumes of urdu in her poetry. Him.
Lie.

Whispers beneath the stars
Tumblr media
Chapter 7
December, 1998, Bangalore
Khushi tapped her fingers idly on the keyboard, eyes flickering back and forth between the chat window and the door to the cyber cafe. Skybound was late again, probably off saving some metaphorical damsel in distress or rescuing a kingdom from peril. She chuckled to herself, picturing him as some gallant knight, and the thought made her smile.
At last, the unmistakable chime rang out from her screen.
Skybound: Guess who survived the dragon attack?
She grinned, her fingers flying across the keyboard.
OceonBreeze: Barely, I’m sure. What took you so long, Sir Knight? The dragon too big to handle this time?
Skybound: Actually, this one had three heads. Took a bit longer than I expected. But I couldn’t leave you hanging, could I?
Khushi laughed softly. There was something about the way Skybound wrote that always made her feel like she was part of something more adventurous, something magical, even when all she was really doing was sitting in a tiny cubicle in a Bangalore cyber cafe.
She hesitated for a moment, then decided to share her news. After all, she had been holding onto it all day, waiting to tell him.
OceonBreeze: So… something happened today.
The little icon showed that he was typing. Then it stopped. Then started again.
Skybound: Oh? You slayed a dragon without me? I thought we had an agreement on those.
She rolled her eyes but smiled.
OceonBreeze: No, no dragon. I… I got a Hallmark card.
The response didn’t come right away. She watched the screen, expecting his quick-witted banter, but the chat window stayed still. The pause felt strange, heavy.
Finally, his reply came through.
Skybound: A Hallmark card? From… who?
She smiled, remembering the shy smile of her class senior as he slipped it into her bag during lunch break. It was cute, in a way, innocent even. But now that she was typing it out, it felt a little odd to be sharing this moment with Skybound. Maybe because he was her closest confidant, and she hadn’t imagined someone else entering that space.
OceonBreeze: Just this boy from school. A class senior. I think he has a little crush on me.
There was silence again. The usual playfulness in his responses seemed to have dulled, his words slower than usual.
Skybound: Oh. A little crush, huh? That’s… nice.
She frowned slightly. That wasn’t what she expected. Normally, he would tease her mercilessly, make some joke about love letters and how she was now the queen of hearts. Instead, there was a long pause, like he was choosing each word carefully, which wasn’t his style.
OceonBreeze: Yeah, it’s kinda sweet. He just slipped it in my bag. The usual cheesy stuff, you know? Something like ‘You light up my world’ or whatever.
Skybound: And… do you like him?
Khushi blinked at the screen, confused. Why was he asking that? She wasn’t sure what he was getting at.
OceonBreeze: No, not like that. It’s just a harmless little thing. A bit silly, really.
This time, the silence stretched on longer than before. She could almost feel him wrestling with something on the other side of the screen. His usual playful tone was absent, and it made her uneasy. She could feel the weight of each keystroke he was typing. It was as if he was fighting his own battle—one that was deeper, quieter, and far more personal.
Skybound: Well… as long as it’s silly.
There was a heaviness in his words now, a quiet tension that hadn’t been there before. Khushi found herself wishing he’d just say whatever was weighing on him, yet she hesitated, unsure if she should push. Skybound was her escape, her confidant—the one person who made her feel truly understood. She couldn’t risk unraveling that fragile connection. His response fell flat, dimming the spark of excitement she'd felt moments ago. This wasn’t like him. He was always the one to lift her spirits, to spin the most ordinary moments into something magical.
She sighed and typed, trying to coax a little more joy back into the conversation.
OceonBreeze: Come on, you’re not going to make fun of him? Where’s your sense of humor?
There was a longer pause, and then a small joke came through, but it lacked the spark she was used to.
Skybound: Just trying to keep my sword sharp in case this Hallmark guy tries to steal my spot as your knight in shining armor.
She laughed, relieved to hear the return of his playful tone.
OceonBreeze: Trust me, no one could ever take your place. Not even a Hallmark card-wielding senior. You’re the one who slays dragons, remember?
There was a pause, but this time it felt lighter, as though he was mulling something over, and then the words came through.
Skybound: Good to know. Because I think I’m irreplaceable. But seriously, if Hallmark guy pulls out all the stops, I’m ready to duel.
Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, her smile softening. There was something about Skybound that always put her at ease, even when the conversation dipped into more serious waters. But tonight, beneath the jokes, there was a subtle tension, something unsaid that made her wonder.
OceonBreeze: You’d win, hands down. No contest.
Skybound: Glad to hear it. But just in case, I’m practicing my sword fighting on the side.
She laughed again, her earlier nerves slowly dissipating. The teasing, the jokes, this was what she loved most about Skybound. But tonight, even with the lighthearted exchanges, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more lingering between the lines.
OceonBreeze: So… about that dragon. Did it really have three heads?
Skybound: It did. And you know what? None of them were as terrifying as hearing about this Hallmark guy.
There was humor in his response, but also a quiet undertone of something deeper. Khushi found herself staring at the screen, wondering if maybe, just maybe, Skybound wasn’t as invincible as he always made himself out to be.
OceonBreeze: Don’t worry, I’ll save the next dragon-slaying for you. No Hallmark guy could ever take your place.
His reply came quickly this time, but with a lingering warmth that stayed with her long after she logged off.
Skybound: Deal. You’re my favorite damsel in distress, after all.
And for the first time, Khushi wondered if maybe, just maybe, she wasn’t the only one who had found respite in their weekly chats.

Tastes Like shakkar sounds so good! What are your top 5 books with brown or desi characters?
I enjoyed Tastes Like Shakkar a lot more than I was expecting, and have relentlessly been shilling it ever since. It's such a solid romance, the sex was good, a lot of the desi family stuff (the concept of being a "family manager") really hit, but it never took away from the main romance. Also, it's always nice to feel "seen" in the books you read even though it's pretty rare for me, but since this was specifically about Indian-Americans in the NY-NJ area, I really felt that.
Here are books with desi rep apart from Tastes Like Shakkar that are in my top 5:
Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai: I debated putting my other fave by Alisha, Serving Pleasure, on here but Wrong to Need You portrayed a less-troubled desi family dynamic than Serving Pleasure so I'm picking this. Sadia is a widowed single mom grappling with her attraction to her brother-in-law, Jackson who's just returned after a self-imposed exile related to a mysterious fire. The restrained tension between these two is so hot (ok maybe not entirely restrained; she doesn't recognize him when he first returns and nearly has sex with him lol). Also, Sadia, like Jiya below, subverts the passive Asian woman trope on multiple levels, and based on the dynamic between her and Jackson.
I also liked how Sadia's large, close-knit Pakistani-American family was portrayed; they may not see eye-to-eye all the time, but they love one another and are willing to learn and compromise.
Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert: Zafir Ansari is truly a prince among men; him and Dani go viral for his rescue of her, and they start fake dating so his football charity can get some positive attention and donations. I like how Zafir was the romantic one among the two of them (and is a Bollywood romance fan, predictably), and is also great in the sack so... a winner, basically.
Also, Talia wrote this lovely exploration of grief (Zafir lost his dad and brother) and this really sweet relationship between Zafir and his SIL, and his family as a whole which I appreciated.
Sink or Swim by Tessa Bailey: I know Tessa has gotten a lot of flak for her portrayal of Latinx characters (which, deserved imo), and she's otherwise by and large stuck to writing white characters, but I can't deny she did pretty damn good job of writing Jiya and her family, who are desi, in this book. Here are my full thoughts on this.
The Roommate Risk by Talia Hibbert: Friends to lovers AND probably one of the only unrequited love books I'll ever recommend only because I love Jasmine so much (even while she's STRUGGLING to figure out that yes, Rahul has had feelings for her ever since she deflowered him on the... I wanna say library floor), and Rahul Khan is adorable and a stern, stern man who can absolutely get it. Similar to Zafir above, Rahul's dad also dies during the book (there's a lot of flashbacks) and Talia portrayed Muslim funeral customs and just the general family dynamics thoughtfully and in such an emotional way.
Hard Way by Katie Porter: lol my problematic fave because there are a few things that are just so weird in terms of rep: For one, the author keeps putting Sunita, the heroine, in "indian inspired" clothes, for example, some kind vaguely described professional suit inspired by a saree? Like, this woman is an attorney who works for a United States congressman. She's probably wearing a regular-ass suit like the rest of the people in that office. Also, her nickname in law school was the "Ice Queen of Bangalore" which was meant to be microaggressive, but the nickname literally makes 0 sense to me since she was raised in AMERICA, and considering half the Indians I know can't make the connection between being Kannadiga and possibly being from Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, what are the chances these white mfs can, right? And the weird thing is, she narratively sort of "reclaims" her nickname, but it was such a cringe one to begin with and I don't even know why the authors bothered to put it in in the first place.
BUT Sunita is the only Kannadiga heroine I've ever read (I am. kannadiga, to clarify), she's a martial artist, she's struggling to work out her marriage with her husband (I'm a sucker for that shit), she's good with being kidnapped and zip-tied straight from the grocery store by her husband because it's a mutual fantasy, and she attends yakshagana performances (also very personal to me and my family)! Do you know how rare it is to see any of these things as far as brown heroines go? Maybe I have a lower bar for South Asian rep because there are so few romances that have South Asians who don't hate themselves/the culture AND have good sex scenes, but hopefully that will change as time goes on.
