20,532 graduates from UNIJOS, 112 bag first class

The University of Jos, Plateau State, will on Saturday graduate a total of 20,532 students at its 33rd and 34th convocation ceremony. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ishaya Tanko, who disclosed this on Wednesday during a pre-convocation press briefing, said out of the number, 112 of the students would graduate with first-class Honors. The VC said during the convocation, various categories of students would be awarded different degrees as well. According to him, the degrees comprised 159 PhDs, 3,669 Masters, 281 postgraduate diplomas, 11, 281 Bachelors, and 5,142 from affiliate institutions. He added that, “For the Second Class Honors (Upper Division), we have 3,093 graduating students and for the Second Class (Lower Division), we have 6,325. For the Third Class category, we have 1,361, and 281 students will graduate with Pass Division while Pass qualified for Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine program is 109.” Tanko further stated that the high point of the convocation ceremony would be the investiture of His Highness, Mallam Nuhu Bamali, Emir of Zauzau, as the new Chancellor of the University of Jos. He noted that the Chancellor would be conferred with the Doctor of Laws Degree (LL.D.) Honoris Causa alongside two other eminent Nigerians – a former Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Professor Elias Bogoro, will be conferred with a Doctor of Science while the former Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, will receive Doctors of Letters. Kano deputy gov pays condolence visit to Emir of Zazzau

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalsm Gwarzo, on Sunday, led a delegation on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to condole with the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmad Nuhu Bamali over the death of his younger brother, Alhaji Mansur Nuhu Bamali. This was according to a press statement released on Monday by the Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu. Recall that Alhaji Mansur passed away in October while in transit to Morocco, during a layover at a private hospital in Lagos. The deputy governor and his entourage extended their condolences during the visit to the Emir’s palace in Zaria, Kaduna State on Sunday. Comrade Gwarzo conveyed his sympathies during the visit and eulogised the late Alhaji Mansur, acknowledging not only the loss to the Emirate but to the entire nation. He commended Alhaji Mansur’s humility, kindness, and simplicity, despite his distinguished royal lineage and extensive educational background. In response, Emir Ahmad Nuhu Bamali expressed his gratitude to the delegation representing Governor Abba for their condolences. He also prayed for their safe journey back to Kano State. The Emir went on to reflect on Mansur’s life, emphasising that even though he passed away at the age of 52, his lifetime achievements were equivalent to that of someone who had lived a hundred years. “Indeed, every soul shall taste death. Late Mansur lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation, and we pray for his final resting place to be the highest peak of Al-Jannah,” the Emir said.
