âcome on, you know my parents. theyâd probably want me to follow you to make sure youâre not all alone in a new city.â it doesnât matter how old they are now; theyâre always going to be children in the eyes of daisyâs parents and she knows theyâd much prefer the two of them to stick together, to keep looking after one another the way they have for over a decade now. âas for kevin, i donât really know what heâd do⌠i mean, there are plenty of people out there in long-distance relationships, right? i guess it could work if we tried.â but if she were totally honest, how moving would affect her relationship with kevin hadnât actually crossed her mind when sheâd first spoken. her only thought â the most important thought â had been not wanting to be separated from her best friend. everything else comes second. âthatâs true, you are. youâre the best friend iâve ever had.â itâs not even a contest. as much as she loves her other friends and would do anything for them, none of them could hold a candle to riley and they all know it; encourage it, even. the bond they both share is rare and daisy wonât be taking it for granted anytime soon. âreally? oh, youâre the best.â itâs with an excited smile that she untangles herself from the blanket, scrambles up from the couch and quickly disappears into the hallway. it takes her a minute or two to remember where she left the small make-up bag, but once she finally grabs it, sheâs practically skipping back to the living room and resuming her place next to riley. âokay, what look are we aiming for? something subtle or a little more dramatic? either way, iâll be gentle, i promise.â
riley canât help but nod to daisyâs words. she is right. part of the reason why daisy was so kind is because she took after her parents, and riley appreciated it. they gave her support and love when she needed the most, and for that sheâll always be thankful. âyeah, i mean... iâm sure you guys could make it work.â tries to sound casual, then shrugs. itâs not like this scenario is going to happen, so there was no reason to stress or think about kevin. and the less she thought about him, the better, at least in rileyâs book. âshucks, daise,â a small smile sprouts on the corners of her lips. no matter how many times daisy professes her undying love and loyalty for her, it will still manage to baffle riley. she canât get over it. daisy is her home, and remembering that will always be enough to bring a smile to her lips. âit works out, then, âcause youâre the best friend iâve ever had.â it was different with daisy. of course riley had noah and julien and they were probably her closest friends, after daisy, and all the girls on the team who she loved to bits and would fight anyone who dared hurt them... but daisy was not even on another league. she was another entirely different planet. she didnât really believe the concept of soulmates until daisy came into her life. now, rileyâs sure that daisy is hers. and the way daisy beams at her when riley gives the go ahead for the make-up session only serves to confirm it further, causing her heart to soar inside of her ribcage. âi know.â rileyâs tone is cocky, but sheâs only teasing. when daisy returns, she straightens up on the couch. âi can tell you what iâm not aiming for,â she giggles nervously. âi donât want to look like that one barbie everyone had growing up, with five tufts of hair on their head, looking like a cubist painting.â of course, daisy would never do that. sheâs far too skilled with the brushes to put riley in harmâs way. âbut i guess, i donât know... subtle? whatever you think will look better.â

âi had a dream about you.â lux was snuggled into them on the spacious couch on the back patio, a blanket draped over both their bodies as everyone else in the house either slept or watched the horror movie someone had put on. she hadnât really been interested in the prospect of spending time around anyone else, though she hadnât necessarily planned to tell them about this. âmaybe if youâre nice to me iâll tell you details.âÂ
âabout me?â hues widen with interest as noah leans in her direction. theyâve been waiting to get luxâs attention for a while now, so itâs hard to pretend like theyâre not hanging onto her every word. âiâm always nice,â noah grins, eyelashes fluttering to further their point. âcâmon, lampard, cough it up.â

âthat doesnât sound quite right, but i also donât know enough about aerodynamics to dispute it.â so instead, she decides itâs actually a perfectly reasonable assumption to make after all and shrugs it off. science was never her strong suit anyway; she always had to sneak a peek at someone elseâs work over their shoulder to glean even a modicum of knowledge in that class. âin that case, it sounds like youâre going to be happy forever because iâm definitely not going anywhere. even if you decide to move town one day, iâd have to pack my bags and follow you. we come as a pair whether people like it or not.â besides, itâs not like songwriters need to be bound to one place in order to find success. she could build up an audience anywhere, but she canât as easily find a new best friend. âi canât help but feel like youâre super biased about this kind of thing, but⌠thank you. seriously. i fucking love you, you know.â this time, she makes sure to give riley a real hug; sitting up straighter with a grin to fully wrap her arms around the otherâs neck and pull her closer. no matter how downtrodden daisy might get from time to time, it doesnât take long before a few simple words from riley has her mood making a complete 180. maybe she doesnât need a copious amount of fans in order to feel like her work means something. riley is easily worth a hundred listeners alone. âoh please, donât feel bad. you know iâd do whatever you wanted.â hell, she wouldnât have sat through countless amounts of hockey games over the years if that wasnât true. daisy had never once cared about sports until riley joined a team. now, despite still not fully understanding the rules, sheâll scream herself hoarse to show support. âbesides, if you donât choose something, iâll be forced to pull out the lipstick and mascara sooner than planned, and use your pretty face as a canvas. thatâs both a threat and a promise.â
âyouâd really do that?â it shouldnât make her feel so surprised, because riley would do the same for her, but her eyes still widen at the possibility. âwhat about your parents? or kevin?â riley would take any chance to skip town and live with daisy in a little apartment that was only theirs. god knows they fantasized about it when they were young. but unlike riley, daisy had things and people that tethered her to the city. âiâm not, though. i love you to bits, daise, but weâre good enough friends to be honest with each other, and iâd tell you if you sucked.â and she did, when daisy tried things that werenât really her cup of tea. of course she never outright said it in such a blunt and careless manner, a courtesy that she wonât extend to others, but she always was honest with daisy. at least about most things. there really was just one thing she couldnât really bring herself to be honest about, because it frightened her. riley beams at daisyâs use of profanity, she loves when daisy does it. arms instinctively wrap around daisyâs waist, pulling her impossibly close, resting her head on daisyâs shoulder. the gesture makes her heart race inside of her chest the way not even a championship win ever could. and she had a couple of those under her belt, so she had proof. âi know you would,â her voice is a little hoarse as she pulls back from daisyâs frame. âbut iâm a very good friend, so you donât have to.â she gives daisy a playful roll of brown hues before she concedes. they had too many sleepovers that riley knew by now the makeover would eventually happen at some point. and since daisy liked it so much, why not? âas long as you keep calling me pretty, iâll let you get away with almost anything, page.â shakes her head, as the flush takes over her cheeks. âdo your worst.â
