i could be a better boyfriend than him
Song- Boyfriend by Dove Cameron
Pairing- Natasha Trace x fem!reader
Warning(s)- None
Wordcount- 525
A/N- Just a short one shot for all of y'all and I might make these a series. @phoenixssugarbaby you might like this.
I can’t believe that I’m actually doing this.
Just over six months ago I broke up with my boyfriend of over a year, and now I’m taking engagement photos with one of the most successful CEOs on the West Coast. Well, I’m not actually engaged, just faking it so she can keep her family’s business. The only reason I’m doing this is because I’m a petty person and would like to make my ex jealous. Is it healthy? Not really?
Smoothing my outfit in the mirror, I made some slight adjustments before I heard my phone ringing.
“Hello?” I answered.
“We’re waiting in front of your apartment,” she told me.
“I’ll be down in a few,” I told her.
Grabbing my things, I rushed out of my apartment and down the stairs where I saw the SUV waiting for me. Opening the door, I slid across the seat across from her.
Natasha Trace, the most successful CEOs in all of California. We randomly met at a bar and we just drunkenly spilled our life stories. A week after meeting, she came back to the bar and proposed this idea. After spending a few weeks contracting agreements and creating our story, we’re now taking engagement photos.
“You look nice,” she complimented me.
“Thanks,” I thanked her. “You look nice also.”
“You still want to do this?” She asked.
“For our own personal vengeance, yes,” I answered.
She nodded her head and we sat in the car in silence until we reached Balboa Park. getting out of the car, Natasha led me to where the photographer was. We did our introductions and the photographer told us what the plan was.
“Where’s your ring?” The CEO whispered in my ear as we got to our fist spot.
“Oh shit,” I reached into my bag and slid the ring on my finger.
Grabbing my hand, we went to the first spot and took photos.
Not going to lie, despite us not being a couple, the photographer was convinced we were one. Even from the poses and actions they told us, we were pretty natural with them. There wasn’t any awkward tension between us. Sometimes we would crack a laugh from a cheesy joke or one liner I would say.
“Why don’t the two of you kiss?” The photographer suggested.
There’s no need for that,” I started to deny.
“No, it’s fine,” Natasha reassured them and placed a kiss on my cheek which made me blush a little.
“Let’s try a full on kiss,” the photographer clarified.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” I asked Natasha.
“I’m sure if you’re sure,” she gently placed her hand on my cheek. “Do you trust me?”
“Well, I’ve only known you for almost two months,” I started to ramble but was cut off when Natasha placed her lips on mine.
As she kissed me slowly, her lips were nice and soft. They weren’t rough like my previous partner’s. I felt myself melt a little as she kissed me.
“So, am I better than your ex?” She smirked a little after we finished kissing.
“Way better,” I answered before kissing her again.

March 30th:
Justin sits down with Complex and talks about Selena and growing up in the game:
Complex: Obviously, you and Selena are fodder for the gossip blogs everyday. How hard is it to keep your relationship private?
JB: It’s so hard, because everyone’s got a camera-phone, and now everyone wants to get their picture on the blogs. So they’ll send anything that they have to the blogs. So you don’t really get any privacy. If I want to go out to eat, if I’m in L.A., I just have to expect that there’s going to be someone there. That’s the only thing that I don’t like.
Complex: Is it tough for you guys? A lot of people like, hate it. Do you guys hate it, or is it like, “This comes with the territory, we’ve got to deal with it, it sucks?”
JB: I’m kind of both. I don’t like it, but I understand it. I’ll be covering my face or something, and the comment that pisses me off so much is, “Oh, get over it, Justin. You’re famous. People are going to take your picture. Just suck it up. You’re rich. You’re making a lot of money. Suck it up. This is one of the things that you have to do.” I’m like, “Yo I just got off an eight-hour flight. I’m tired. My eyes have bags under them. I’m not trying to take pictures.” I’m not going to come to your house, wake you up out of a deep sleep and start snapping your picture, no matter how you look right now. It doesn’t matter. When I get off a flight, I’m not trying to sit there and let them take pictures of me. I’m tired. I’m scratching my eyes. I just don’t like taking pictures in general.
Complex: There’s been high profile couples in history: Justin and Britney, Jay and Beyoncé. Jay and Beyoncé kind of kept it private. Everyone knew they were together, but they kept it quiet. Even with the kid, they kept it so under wraps. Do you learn anything from those relationships? And do you guys talk about that?
JB: Yeah. I mean, for me, it’s like, there’s no way to hide it completely, because then it would be unfair for us. Then, we’re not even able to have a relationship. It’s like, “You take this car, and I’ll take this car, and then we’ll meet up at the spot. Then, you go in this door, I’ll go in this door. We’ll end up crossing ways. You get back in this car. We’ll cross over, do a James Bond. You go through the kitchen. I’ll go through the back area. Then we’ll meet in the dressing room and see each other.” At that point, it’s like, it’s not even a relationship. You’re just hiding from everyone. That’s unfair and unhealthy, man.

Seventeen: You’ve planned some amazing dates for Selena - who taught you to be so romantic?
Justin: I’m just trying to make her happy, that’s all. I think it’s important to make all woman feel like they’re princesses because every girl is a princess, I’m serious.
Seventeen: Will.I.am said he thinks it’s important for people to experience heartbreak so they’ll have something to sing about. What do you think?
Justin: I haven’t gone through it so I don’t really know what it’s about. I don’t think anyone wants to have heartbreak. I haven’t been in that deep a place yet, but I’m still looking. I’m still learning every day.
Seventeen: Would you and Selena ever record music together?

“They were showing these little elderly couples, and it was so cute. Then all of a sudden we’re both looking up and we come on the screen and it’s like … it was so awkward. It was so weird. I mean you have to kiss, right?”
"They wrote a song together and it’s beautiful - it’s amazing - I don’t know if it will make the album, but if not I’m sure they’ll release it at some point, because it’s a really great record. It’s kind of like … it’s Taylor and Justin combined. So it’s a little bit of an upbeat song, but it’s very acoustic.”

UsWeekly: At least you get quality time with Selena. What do you love about her?
Justin: I dunno! She just carries herself in a very elegant way. And my family loves her, which is usually hard because my mom’s really picky. My mom wants, you know, a good Christian girl with good manners.
UsWeekly: Do you understand girls better now?
Justin: Well, every girl is different, so they are hard to figure out. Like, the way most men work is the same. But each woman works differently. It’s like I can’t figure them out! But I do know girls like you to tell them you love them and that they’re all beautiful all the time. So I do that a lot with any girl I’m with. I tell them that as much as possible.
UsWeekly: Most romantic gift you’ve ever given?
Justin: I’m not saying to who- but I gave a girl an expensive diamond bracelet recently. It was so pretty, I knew she’d love it!

Selena and Justin were strolling an outdoor mall in Calabasas when paparazzi began harassing them as they were trying to leave. According to witnesses (and photos taken) this photographer was so aggressive that he even blocked Justin's car, and was said to be rudely harassing Selena "about the herpes (coldsore) on her lip" while trying to capture a photo of her. After they began harassing Selena, Justin got out of his car and went to smack the camera from his hands and him and the photographer both fell off the curb.
The photographer was taken away by ambulance AND filed a police report that named Justin as the culprit. The Los Angles County Sheriff's office is investigating and say they will talk to Justin.
One of the girls who supposedly was there shared this:
"long story short; the paps were blocking his car and wouldnt move, he got mad after asking them to move, justin tried to knock their camera, the pap and justin both fell off the curb, he lost his shoe and hat while fighting him, selena and justin left and came back because selena lost her phone, and the paps would not get out of her face, and then they left and now the paps are trying to get money from the whole thing"
Another girl that was allegedly there as a witness had nearly the exact same story as above, except in addition she added the paparazzi were rudely asking Selena "about the herpes on her lip," and that's when and why Justin knocked his camera.

Detectives want to interview Justin and Selena after a photographer claims he was attacked by Justin at a Calabasas shopping mall Sunday, but authorities continue to seek additional witnesses.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Sheriff's Department said the investigation was continuing and that detectives "are planning to interview Mr. Bieber." Law enforcement sources said Selena is among the witnesses detectives would like to talk to. Detectives are investigating claims by the photographer that Justin struck him after he snapped photographs of Selena at the Commons at Calabasas Shopping Center.
The photographer complained of pain and was taken by the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a hospital, where he was treated and released, officials said. The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing, stressed that the probe was in its early stages.

Over the mountains, across the sky
Need to see your face and need to look in your eyes

June 28th:
Justin cut short a pre-taped interview with U.S. radio show Mojo in the Morning after the host compared him to Justin Timberlake and quizzed him about a potential romance between his mother and One Direction's Harry Styles.
Thomas Carballo, the host of the show, was in the middle of a phone chat with Justin when he (rightfully so) took offence at his line of questioning - and hung up.
The 10-minute interview got off to a bad start when Carballo told Justin he thought he was Timberlake the first time he heard him.
Justin said, "That's funny because our voices sound nothing alike... Saying I sound like somebody else is definitely not a compliment."
Justin eased up when talking about his new song Maria, which was inspired by the woman who falsely claimed he was the father of her baby last year, but he lost his cool when Carballo got personal and asked if he was worried about Harry Styles falling for his mum.
The DJ said, "Do you worry about Harry around your mum, since he likes older women?"
Clearly upset, Justin then mumbled something about Carballo's mother and, as the radio presenter explained his mum was dead, Justin had already hung up the phone.
A record company representative then tried to convince the DJ that Justin's phone had cut off, explaining, "I can't get him. He's in a really s**tty area."
She later revealed Justin was "really upset" with the questions, adding, "He probably won't be calling back."

Ernest and Esther Born: Northern California Legacy
Ernest (1898–1992) and Esther Baum Born (1902–1987) were architecture's original power couple. Before the Eameses, and way before Venturi and Scott Brown, these two San Franciscans came together to bring their sense of lightness—Ernest with his agile designs, Esther with the flash of her camera—to the Bay Area.
The Borns met at the University of California, Berkeley where both studied architecture. Although their visible legacy is a series of buildings they did in San Francisco—most notably their personal residence at 2020 Great Highway in Outer Sunset (1949) and BART’s Glen Park and Balboa Park stations (mid-1970s)—they began their career in New York City, where they took part in the flourishing downtown art scene of the 1920s and 30s. Their stay in New York was brief—they moved back to the West Coast in 1936—but its influence lingered. Ernest’s architectural designs show an understanding of space inspired by the geometry of modernist painters, and he became an accomplished painter and illustrator in his own right, contributing mural paintings for the Golden Gate International Exposition and doing graphic design for BART in the 70s. Esther worked as a photographer, eventually publishing a monograph on Mexican modernist architecture. Both championed modernism in their hometown.
Their residence in Outer Sunset best highlights Ernest’s use of natural light. Contrary to its neighborhood’s name, the house welcomes the sunrise with huge windows facing east, made more magnificent by an open floor plan that fully embraces the morning light. Using a limited design palette inspired by California’s natural wonders, most notably Douglas fir and travertine, and adding modernist touches, such as a large wall installation in the living room used for hanging art (and looking like a work of art itself), Ernest combined his bicoastal pedigree for a striking house that makes the best of both coasts.
It was Born’s attention to light that influenced Aidlin Darling’s expansion of the house in 2008. Rather than alter the original structure, AD built a three-story addition next to the original that complements the ideas behind Born’s design. The new structure rises organically from the surrounding pines, a thing of air and levity pierced by the sun during dawn and dusk: its large windows face east and west. Though it may outshine, literally, the original, the addition pays close attention to Born's choice of materials and shape. Just as the Borns advocated for a dynamic San Francisco in conversation with other great cities, so too do these two structures converse with each other, highlighting their differences while being obviously connected by a unifying aesthetic.
One can sense this aesthetic in Born's Glen Park and Balboa Park stations, which despite being in the Brutalist style, have a nimble, spacious essence . The former features glass walls and a glass ceiling that allows light to stream into the concrete structure. Its large, marbled mural in warm colors and abstract shapes shows a modern art influence.
These buildings constitute the Born's public legacy, but it is their “invisible” legacy, the series of editorial and artistic work they did in the 30s and 40s, and the one now privy only to the archivist’s eye, that most celebrate San Francisco’s distinct cultural milieu. In the April 1937 issue of the Architectural Record, where Ernest was chief art editor, he and Esther published “The New Architecture in Mexico,” which showcased the works of modernist Mexican architects like Juan O’Gorman and Luis Barragan. This was surely influenced by their friendship with Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, whom the couple met when living in New York. Esther had spent several months in Mexico photographing various modernist buildings, which she then used to introduce Mexican architecture to a broader American audience. Perhaps the Borns understood the Bay Area’s indebtedness to Mexican culture and the exchange of ideas that crossed borders. A decade later, Ernest’s exhibition Domestic Architecture of the San Francisco Bay Region cataloged the evolving design scene of his native city, and he continued to imagine a bolder, newer San Francisco in his designs—a grand design scheme for Fisherman’s Wharf, for instance—even though these were never built.
A final note about the Outer Sunset house: the original structure, viewed from the street, is an almost-windowless facade that was once dubbed the “Born Barn” for its drab, wooden features. Few would expect the light-embracing grace of its other side. Away from the public, Ernest and Esther Born cultivated a legacy that honors San Francisco, yet still shines with the city's beauty, for those who seek it out.

This past weekend (Thursday-Sunday) I took my very first solo trip across the country to the beautiful San Diego, California! It wasn’t just my first trip to California ever, but it was also my first flight ever! I’m from Michigan and I've lived here my whole life. I just turned 23 (Aug 21) and I’ve only ever made it to very little states near me... (Ohio, Kentucky, Chicago). All my life, all I’ve ever wanted to do was travel and visit new places and see and experience new things. My family in general are not much big travelers, so they didn’t know much about it, or have any desire to push me past the things that scared me. Well, California has always been a dream state for me to visit. I’ve always wanted to see the beautiful ocean, the palm trees, the perfect weather all year round, etc! Well after talking about “I will make it there one day” to my family about 100x a day, about two months ago, I finally decided that as a 23rd birthday gift to myself- kinda as a new start to a new year in my life, I decided to plan that trip! I don’t have many close friends in general- let alone one that would travel to Cali with me in a short amount of time. I also don’t have family who would do the same! The one fear of mine was flying there. I had never been on a plane before, and all my life that and heights have always been my biggest fear. But I thought about the fact that as the years had went on, my fear of heights weren’t as bad, and I’ve done many things that I enjoyed that I didn’t think I’d ever do. I first booked my flight and started doing LOTS of research about the best way to plan this, considering I’ll be all alone, in a new state I’ve never seen before. I knew no one there, and only had some places and things listed that I knew I wanted to see. I do have a friend who lived in San Diego for two years, before moving back to Michigan. I asked her some of her favorite places and what not to see. I managed to find a cheap hotel in the middle of The Gaslamp District, which personally was an excellent location for me to stay. It was in the perfect location to walk to many restaurants, shops, Balboa Park, Petco Park, etc. It was only a 15 minute ride to Sunset Cliffs and Ocean Beach, and the airport! I ended up Lyfting to the beach and airport each time, since it was a little more difficult to walk, but it only cost about $10-$15 each way if you chose shared ride, which personally made me feel a little more safe and comfortable. Plus if you left to one of the locations in the morning, and planned to spend the day there and come back at night, then it was cheaper than taking a few trips there and back each day. I then spent all the rest of my time walking everywhere using google maps, and yelping places nearby! Let me tell ya, after figuring all those details out, it was all so smooth and wonderful! I had an amazing time just taking as much or as little bit of time the places I wanted to go, and things I wanted to see. I made the choices for everything and didn’t have to worry about feeling like I missed out on things because someone I was with didn’t want to “go there” or “see that.” I felt like I gained an extra bit of independence and learned a whole lot. The one thing that was probably the hardest about traveling alone, was when you’d want to get a Instagram worthy picture in front of somewhere, and you had no one to take it. I learned if you look around you and look for a friendly face. Usually I’d go for young teenage like girls who are most likely very into social media, or young mom’s who are already taking the time to stop and take millions of pictures of their children. They are usually sooo nice and will say yes to taking 1 or 100 photos for you (I did so happen to find a young photographer at Ocean Beach who took over 100 pictures of me, with different angles- so that was cool: see first photo).
Now on my last full day in Cali (I had a 9am flight Sunday morning) I didn’t have a whole lot of money left so didn’t want to spend it all getting a lyft to and from the beach again, as much as I wanted to. I just wanted to see something new! Well, Friday afternoon- I was walking back from Balboa Park to my hotel in Gaslamp which was about 45 minute walk. There came a point where I ran across a street before the light turned green and then got stopped at the next crosswalk. Suddenly there was a young, attractive gentleman stopping at the crosswalk as well. He had a paramedic uniform on and a very friendly smile on his face. He then turned and asked me what I was running from. I was pretty confused by his question, where he then proceeded to explain I must not be from around there because no one runs across the street unless they’re running from something. I then explained everything. Obviously not telling too much detail or anything because I’m by myself, in a different state, and with some guy I’ve never met before. He was super nice though, and explained how he accidently got on the wrong trolley home from work (which he’s never done before) and was walking to the trolley station, just a couple blocks before Gaslamp. Then he seen me running across the street, was concerned and also knew we’d be walking awkwardly at the same pace a few blocks so thought it’d be less awkward to introduce himself instead of complete silence. We then talked for a bit. He’s very open and very funny! He was very easy to talk to, which is unusual for me who is super introverted. He then asked if he could walk with me until he gets to his destination, because it would be safer than just by ourselves. We ended up walking the 30 minutes to Gaslamp. We were so into our conversations that we both forgot about his street and we didn’t even mind it. He then asked for my Instagram and told me how happy he was he took the wrong trolley that day. I walked the rest of the way to my hotel and he left to go back to the trolley station. Now... Saturday comes and I’m standing in line at Dunkin’ Donuts, it’s not even noon yet and he messages me on Instagram, asking my plans for the day. I didn’t have any so I just told him id probably just walk around and see where it takes me. he knew that was my last day there and told me it was his only day off that week. He asked if I’d want to hangout for a bit. I was a little unsure considering I didn’t actually know him, and all my family told me not to talk or go with strangers. I decided to take the chance but still be safe with it. He ended up meeting me at the Starbucks just a four minute walk from my hotel. He met me there at 1, but was actually early. He was dressed very nice and had a huge smile when I walked up to him. He told me he had a whole day planned for us and some back-up plans if I didn’t like some of his ideas. His first was to take a trolley ride to Old Town San Diego, which I had yet to see plus I had never been on a Trolley before. I loved that Idea and we then ventured off and talked about sooo much along the way, He showed me a bunch of his favorite music, and told me about his life growing up, etc. I enjoyed every single moment of it- even the overly crowded trolley. We then arrived to Old Town, which was totally awesome! He knows so many facts about so many things, and made the history of things so entertaining! He was so comfortable to joke around with and be myself around, it was so wonderful. He also took a few pictures of me in certain spots because he knew i’d want it for Instagram later. I didn’t even have to ask him. I do regret not getting a single picture of him or with him the whole time, only because in the beginning I felt a little weird to ask him because I wasn’t sure how he felt about pictures. He bought me my very first Churro, which was delicious! We just had an amazing time together. Then around 7, we planned to go to one of his Rugby teammates party, but we chilled in the parking lot outside of Old Town to wait for the details of this party. We then had a moment of silence after laughing about something we were talking about, and kinda just stared at eachother smiling. He then kissed me, and it was almost like a “too good to be true” kinda kiss. Eventually we decided to go to his home town and the town he lives called Chula Vista. We took a couple trolleys there and made it there at 7. We walked around his city, talking about the different places and the memories he’s had there growing up. I met his best friend’s mom, who was a total sweetheart and loved me, and told me she better be seeing me again soon. I met his cousin and their roommates, and some of his dad’s co-workers at the fire station. We then made our way to downtown Chula Vista which had a bunch of taco trucks, bars, and shops. It was so cute and everyone was so nice. We stopped in his favorite bar, and he bought us both a Corona then we headed out back to the outside. We spent the last couple hours out there just talking, laughing, showing eachother music, etc. It was then midnight and I had to get back to the hotel to get ready to go to sleep for my early flight in the morning. We ended up stopping at his and his roommates house just a couple blocks down (I know that doesn’t sound safe, but I sent my aunt the address just in case) We all ended up playing video games, eating some homemade tortillas his cousin made, and just listening to music and goofing around. I honestly didn't check my phone or anything just about the whole day, because the whole day was just too amazing and fun. He then drove me back to Gaslamp around 2am (I still didn’t feel comfortable telling him my hotel so I just walked two blocks to my hotel after) but we sat in his car for a bit and just talked about how this whole meeting eachother has felt like a movie. We laughed about it, then explained how terribly sad we are to have to say goodbye already. We both teared up a little and just enjoyed our last few moments together (hopefully not for long though). I then left and so did he. We texted all night til I fell asleep. Now here I am now, writing this Monday night. I’m home now and still felling extremely sad to have left. I’m so happy I went and had the most amazing experience I’ve ever had. We have both been texting and Snapchatting all day, since. I miss him a lot, and it’s crazy saying that considering I’ve only known him a day. But there’s definitely something special about him and I definitely believe there’s something special about the way we met. I believe everything happens for a reason, and his taking the wrong trolley and getting off on that stop that day, and me running across that same street and catching his attention, was all meant to happen. That’s why I believe there’s a special reason he was put into my life, whether or not it ends up romantically, He definitely gave me the most amazing memory I’ll ever have so far. I appreciate him and his kindness, and for just being there. I find new parts of me, I never knew existed. I’ve learned new things. I know so much I want to do now. I’ve made a new friend. Plus sooo much more. California will always hold a very special place in my heart. I definitely plan to visit San Diego again very very soon! Until then... Time to save money and just reminisce through photos and memories in my head.

Hello hello!
A couple weeks ago, my best friend from optometry school got married! You may have seen her in some previous posts. The wedding was beautiful and I was soo ‘honored’ to be the maid of honor! I’ve been a bridesmaid about 5 times already lol and this was my first time being a MOH. This was peak bridesmaid.
The wedding was in Southern California, and I decided to get there 5 days early just in case the bride needed anything (and also it was a much needed getaway after working so much this year). My boyfriend and I did a day trip to San Diego and I’ll share photos from that day in case any of you are crazy and want to do SD in a day lol
Left OC around 8am and started our day in Little Italy where we had tasters at Ballast Point and visited my friend’s optical shop (SPECS) nearby, then we took the Lyme scooters to brunch at Queenstown Public House and got ice cream at Salt&Straw. We scootered down to check out the USS Midway. After, we went shopping for socks and necklaces at Seaport Village and then drove to Coronado beach to check out the hotel and to nap on the beach (lol I was already so tired). Then we headed over to Balboa Park to walk and scooter around and got a cake from Extraordinary Desserts. After we met up with friends for dinner on Convoy Street at a korean fried chicken restaurant called Cross Street Chicken. We went back to OC after because I was exhausted from walking, but the whole day was fun and action-packed and I can’t wait to go back to explore some more!
I didn’t realize how much I missed living in the OC until this trip. I got to spend time with my friends, cousin who now lives in my old apartment building, my godsister and her family, and just go to all the places I frequented during my time in optometry school. I even got to visit campus to say hi to two of the students I helped during application!
Anaheim Packing district with my high school friend
Students I helped during application season, now a 1st and 2nd year at SCCO!
Beignets at Downtown Disney
My cousin and I waited in line for 2+ hours for a K-Beauty Warehouse sale
Ok back to wedding stuff. Prior to the actual wedding day, we had fun getting to know the wedding party at rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. The bridesmaids decorated the venue and I think it looked great! And I also planned an LA day with the bridal party the day before the wedding! We went to Museum of Dream Space and took lots of fun photos. One of the workers there offered to go around the museum with us one more time to take photos of us and turns out he’s a real photographer! We got lucky. After the museum, we got lunch at a very WeHo restaurant called Nic’s on Beverly. Their menu is soooo good and everything was vegan!

The wedding itself was beautiful. It was a long day with hair and makeup starting before 8AM and having multiple photoshoots at the house and park even before the ceremony. The ceremony was touching with the couple reading their own vows, a short communion, and a time where they honored their mothers with flowers.
After that, it was party time! It was so great seeing friends from school and just celebrating the union of my best friend and her husband. I was so nervous about my speech, but it was well-received and I was so relieved after!

Sue & Ian's "Lawful" Williams Barn Wedding
Sue & Ian's "Lawful" Williams Barn Wedding
Of all the San Diego wedding DJs calling America’s finest city home, Sue & Ian chose me to DJ and MC their “lawful” Williams Barn wedding on Saturday, May 18, 2019. The following write-up is based on San Diego DJ Staci’s crazy organized & detailed outline for this Williams Barn wedding in San Marcos.
THE WILLIAMS BARN WEDDING CEREMONY
Prelude ➔ Classical, Piano, Vitamin String Quartet, Movie Scores
Processional groom then bride ➔ “Rhapsody in Blue,” Leonard Bernstein (play from beginning)
Recessional ➔ “Rhapsody in Blue,” Leonard Bernstein (cue to 10:10)
(c) San Diego DJ Staci, the Track Star
THE COCKTAIL HOUR & DINNER MUSIC
While San Diego DJ Staci offers couples pre-set cocktail & dinner playlists to choose from, Sue & Ian opted to use DJ Staci’s “Ultimate Big Band/Old Jazz/Swing Wedding Cocktail Hour Playlist” plus hand-select some of their own background music for their Williams Barn wedding in San Marcos.
Cocktail/Dinner Music ➔ Big Band/Old Jazz/Swing, Reggae, Post Modern Jukebox, “Say Hey I Love You” Michael Franti, “Chains of Love” Erasure, “Blinded by Science” Thomas Dolby, “Groove is in the Heart,” Shoop – Salt N Pepa
THE WILLIAMS BARN WEDDING RECEPTION
My Welcome ➔ “Good evening! Welcome to Sue & Ian’s wedding reception!!! I am the Master of Ceremonies, DJ Staci. Please take your seats so we can officially welcome our guests of honor. If you need to charge your devices, I do have a mini charging station up here including some universal chargers.”
“This afternoon I’m going to be sharing a lot of stories about Sue & Ian with you. To get rolling, lets tackle the first ‘I love you.’ They were at an evening event at the San Diego Zoo. The zoo was all decorated with Christmas lights. A few days earlier, Sue had sent Ian a mooshy Cole Porter song…she had worried that it might have been too much. But, there in front of the flamingos, Ian told Sue that he loved her for the first time. She said she loved him too…awwww. Ladies & gentlemen, are you ready to welcome our guests of honor?”
Grand Entrance
➔ “Rhapsody in Blue,” Leonard Bernstein (cued to 11:15) ➔ “They met in January 2014 when Sue was a short-term legal intern for the Family Law Facilitators office, while Ian was working in the business office. She was intrigued at first sight and kept trying to figure out how to get him to talk to her. A year and a half later, after little success, Sue returned to that same office as a law clerk. She was secretly thrilled to see Ian was still working there…but she still had no success turning his head.”
“Fast forward to Sues first attorney job—and she returned as often as possible to the facilitators office where Ian worked to file paperwork. She would make any excuse to drop paperwork off in hopes of getting to see him. Finally, they started making small talk, and Sue got Ian to tell her a little about himself. Then, at a certain notorious north county legal community Christmas party, Sue ran into Ian they haven’t stopped talking since!”
“Together they enjoy escape rooms, street fairs, movies at Cinepolis, Balboa Park, riding bikes, museums, road trips, geeking out over obscure legal things, antiquing, looking at homes for sale with no intention of actually buying them, concerts, and plays. They are planning a honeymoon to ahu. And, as you may have guessed…one of their first big dates was to a concert where Rhapsody in Blue was performed! Ladies & gentlemen, get on your feet to welcome–for the FIRST TIME EVER–Sue and Ian B—-!!!”
➔ First Dance ➔ The Way I Am – Ingrid Michaelson ➔ fade early: no ➔ “On April 6, 2018, at Vintana restaurant in Escondido, two people who are very skeptical about marriage—to say the least—were enjoying a lovely dinner. After dinner, Ian made a little speech to Sue…and got down on one knee to ask her a very important question. She was thrilled! We know how she answered because we are about to welcome Sue and Ian to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife.”
➔ Newlywed Brief Welcome/Thank You Speech ➔ yes
➔ Toasts ➔ pre-set champagne ➔ “Ladies & gentlemen, its time for the toasts. Please welcome our first speaker:”
➔ Father of the Groom, George
➔ Daughter of the Bride, Mad-ah-lynn
➔ Sister of the Bride, Kathy
➔ Sue’s father’s best friend, Carl…who was there when Sue’s parents first met
➔ Ian Parent Dance ➔ “At Last,” Etta James ➔ fade early: no ➔ “Ian says, ‘I admire my mom for her tenacity, high standards, and ethical integrity.’ Likewise, he remembers his dad throwing him across the pool when he was a little kid, screaming, ‘Its the Incredible Hulk!’ Ian remembers his dad bringing him to the office to play while he was working long hours. Now let’s welcome Ian & his mother, Ann, to the dance floor along with Sue & Ian’s dad, George.”
➔ Sue Family Dance ➔ “Moon River,” Andy Williams ➔ fade early: no ➔ “Neither of Sue’s parents are here with us today, but, in their honor, Sues children Alex, Robert, & Mad-ah-lynn as well as her sister Kathy will honor their energy, humor, curiosity, and sense of the absurd with a special dance. On January 18, 1964, Sues parents danced to ‘Moon River’ at their wedding. Today we honor their song. This one is for Sue’s parents who loved adventures, laughter, telling stories.”
➔ Group Photo on Dance Floor: yes
➔ Open Dancing
➔ Formal Cake Cutting ➔ Cake – “Love You Madly” ➔ “The newlyweds would like to present the first slice of wedding cake to friend of the family, Carl G.”
➔ Garter Removal ➔ “Brick House” – Commodores
➔ Garter Toss ➔ “Womanizer” – Britney Spears
➔ Bouquet Toss ➔ “Single Ladies” – Beyonce
➔ Longest Married Couple Dance ➔ “Stand By Me,” Ben E King
5:55 p.m ➔ Last Dance ➔ “You Sexy Thing” – Hot Chocolate
SUE & IAN’S DANCE MUSIC RECIPE
Dance Music Rating ➔ PG-13 (like radio edits of songs)
Priority During Dancing ➔ maximum dancing/use my expertise to read the crowd

10 Best Places to Propose in San Diego [Updated for 2018]
What are the top 10 San Diego proposal ideas?
Picking a location to pop the question is a big deal. You want to pick a location that is meaningful to you and your loved one so the ambience sets the perfect mood. Lucky for you, San Diego offers numerous beautiful, dreamy locations that are ideal for getting down on one knee. With all of these options, it’s hard to say which spot is the best place to propose in San Diego. But we do have a few favorites. Here are our top 10 San Diego proposal ideas to help make your engagement the best day of your life (besides your wedding day, of course!).
Balboa Park Proposal Ideas
Century-old Balboa Park is easily the most popular and iconic attraction in San Diego. The spacious areas, lush green gardens, and masterfully architected buildings provide beautiful scenery for a memorable proposal. But keep in mind, Balboa Park is a tourist attraction so there may be crowds. If you desire a more intimate proposal, venture off into one of the more secluded areas of the park. Try to find a beautifully hidden section in one of the magnificent gardens or a spot in your favorite museum that is tucked away from the rest of the crowd. If you do choose one of the more popular spots in the park, like the Botanical Building or El Prado, go early/late in the day or opt for a weekday so there will be less people.
Scope out Balboa Park before your big moment- this will allow plenty of time to find the perfect spot to surprise your significant other with a sparkling ring. The options are truly endless here, so don’t be afraid to get creative! Creative proposal ideas are always the most meaningful and memorable.
Sunset Cliffs
Ask any San Diegan where the best place to watch the sunset is and they are sure to say Sunset Cliffs. The ocean breeze, the calming sound of the crashing waves, and the spectacular view are a fantastic way to set the right mood. Find the perfect spot amongst the cliffs or climb down to the beach and get cozy on the warm sand. We absolutely adore the idea of taking a stroll or simply admiring the stunning coastline while popping the question right as the sun dips below the horizon. You can even ask a friend or hire a photographer to find a discreet place on the cliffs to capture your special moment. How romantic!
Coronado Proposal Ideas
Coronado is a quaint island in San Diego County right across the bay from downtown San Diego. While there are many charming locations for San Diego proposal ideas all throughout Coronado, there is one hidden gem that is even more unique. Transport your loved one to Italy with an extraordinary gondola ride!
The Gondola Company offers multiple packages for their cruises, but the Sunset Cruise is the best option for a proposal. A private and intimate ride for two people, the Sunset Cruise allows you and your special someone to enjoy a twilight cruise through the Coronado Cays. Drift along the waterways cuddled up in a blanket and revel in the peaceful vibe and gorgeous scenery. Wine glasses are provided, so tuck away a bottle to toast to your love after the ring is on your SO’s finger. This is one of our favorite San Diego proposal ideas because it’s sure to make a lasting impression.
Torrey Pines State Beach
You can never go wrong with a San Diego beach proposal. If you’re looking for a visually striking spot to pop the question Torrey Pines State Beach is an excellent choice. With waves breaking against the rocks and a panoramic view of the seemingly endless coastline, this San Diego proposal idea is truly remarkable. The beautifully staggered shoreline is something of dreams, making it an amazing spot for a photographer to capture the moment without ruining the surprise.
While Torrey Pines is absolutely gorgeous, there are many other beautiful beaches to choose from in sunny San Diego. If there is a specific beach that is special to you and your loved one, go there! Sentimental engagements are always appreciated as a way to pay tribute to your unique love story.
Bertrand at Mr. A’s
Image by Bertrand at Mr. A’s
If your idea for a San Diego proposal includes fine dining, an incredible view, and a romantic atmosphere, Bertrand at Mr. A’s is the place for you. Breathtaking ocean views combined with exceptional French-influenced cuisine atop the rooftop terrace makes Bertrand at Mr. A’s an astonishing location for a proposal. Warm lighting, liberally placed tables, and an irresistible perspective of the entire city help to create a sensual ambience. It will feel like the two of you are the only ones in the room.
Don’t forget to call and make a reservation! If you let the staff know of your intentions, they will gladly help to make your evening one you both will cherish forever.
San Diego Wineries
This is one of the more traditional San Diego proposal ideas, but its beauty is irrefutable. Express your passion with a lovely day spent wine tasting and mingling among the vineyard. Find a private spot in the green grass and twisting vines to uncork your love. With great wine, fantastic food, and a beautiful setting your proposal will forever be ingrained in your memories. You might even fall in love with the vineyard so much you decide to have your wedding there!
Some of the more popular San Diego wineries include Espinosa Vineyards and Orfila Vineyards and Winery, but there are many other choices as well. Most San Diego County wineries are about an hour from downtown San Diego, so this idea will probably require a full day. Enjoy the ride home together basking in your love and dreaming about your future.
Petco Park
Are you and your special someone huge Padres fans? Is baseball your favorite pastime? Popping the question at a ballpark may not seem like the most romantic San Diego proposal ideas, but if you enjoy baseball as a couple it’s perfect! Some people aren’t all about the glitz and glam and would totally appreciate the thought behind the gesture. A hotdog, a beer, and a Padres win would be the perfect way to end your simple and sweet engagement. Pull the right strings and you might even be able to propose on the diamond or make it on the Kiss Cam!
Seaport Village
Known as a “great date place” in San Diego, it’s very common to see couples strolling hand in hand along the Seaport Village boardwalk. With waterfront dining and entertainment, the atmosphere at Seaport Village is always lively and thriving. Enjoy a day/evening of shopping and fine dining before dropping to one knee with a marvelous backdrop of the marina.
This location can be especially meaningful if you or your loved one is in the military, as it’s adjacent to the Embarcadero and the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier. Reenacting the famous “Unconditional Surrender” statue is a cute and fun way to commemorate your engagement. Imagine what a gorgeous engagement photo that would be!
Mount Soledad
San Diego is home to thousands of active duty military and veterans, so it only makes sense that another one of our San Diego proposal ideas is a beacon of freedom. But you don’t have to be in the military to appreciate this incredible landscape. Views overlooking the entire La Jolla shoreline and the monumental Mount Soledad cross allow you to embrace your spiritual side. Try to choose a day with clear blue skies and the sun shining full force for an even more memorable moment. You’re in San Diego- that won’t be too hard. An even more spectacular idea? Hire someone to fly a drone overhead and capture an image of you down on one knee in front of your loved one. That photo will be instantly framed and cherished for a lifetime.
Nature Proposal Ideas
If you and your loved one enjoy all things outdoors, why not pop the question in your favorite element? To suit your active lifestyle, consider taking a hike on one of San Diego’s gorgeous hiking trails. Cedar Creek Falls and the trail from Lake Poway to Mount Woodson (Potato Chip Rock) are fantastic options as they set the perfect background for a picturesque engagement photo. You could even ask some friends to head up before you and set up a cute little spot with a blanket and some candles. Pack a light picnic to enjoy after you hear the magic three letter word. Maybe even include a celebratory bottle of champagne! To make the moment even more romantic try to make it to your desired destination by sunset. Just imagine what a beautiful moment that would be!
So, what’s the best of our San Diego proposal ideas?
These locations are some of the best places to propose in San Diego. But the best San Diego proposal ideas are the ones that makes you and your loved one happy. With the right person, the perfect ring, and a meaningful location, your special moment will be unforgettable.

I Attended My First Kelby Worldwide Photowalk
Yesterday it was that time of year again. The Kelby Worldwide PhotoWalk. Groups of photographers around the world joined one of the hundreds of photo walks across the globe. Year after year, walks are held in Balboa Park, the Embarcadero, Coronado - and these are all great places, no doubt. So I didn't go. I knew these places.
Well... this year my friend and excellent photographer, Sony Artisan of Imagery Spencer Pablo, organized a Kelby walk. I hadn't seen Spencer in a couple of months and I figured what better way to catch up than going on a shoot. And, he led what I think was quite a unique walk for San Diego.
Around 9am, a group of about 40 or so photographers started a meander through the alleys of the North Park neighborhood. The theme of the walk - wall murals. This was a subject well outside of my comfort zone - and that was kind of the point of the walk for me. Although, since people weren't the subject, I found it to be a more approachable subject than pure "street" photography. And there were plenty of photographers to ask questions of and exchange ideas with. Maybe I'll host a Kelby walk in the future. Who knows. Although, with me and my love for the ocean, it would probably be more like a "photo wade" ... and start a lot earlier than 9am.
What did I shoot with? I was lean. I mounted a 50mm f/1.8 prime on my A7RII, slung it over my shoulder on a Black Rapid strap, and that was it. Well... I think I had a spare battery in my pocket, too. I used the black & white creative mode in my camera to help me compose. When I think about street photography, I think in black & white. The creative mode is great because I can see the world in monochrome, but I get a RAW file when I press the shutter. As you can see, I did stay in color for some of the shots.
After the walk, Spencer and I kept on chatting. I think we'll be starting a long term project together. I'm excited about it! There's plenty of details for us to work through, yet that's all part of the fun. Stay tuned...

Why
I was living with my mom. I don't remember if I mentioned it in my previous post. At this time I had already moved out from Alexis’ house. And Moe... He still had my phone. I used my sisters to text him at tell him to come over and bring it back. He did. He never hesitated to do anything I asked him to. Like many of the men I tend to surround myself with, he would do anything for me. He came over. My brother was not okay with me talking to him let alone him coming to the house. He did anyway, and we talked as my brother stood out of sight in the hallway. He was close by, still in line of sight with me. He waited patiently flipping a kitchen knife in his hands. I spoke with Moe from the other side of my gate. I wouldn't let him in. My brother would have stabbed him if he got too close. He apologized. Oddly enough I forgave him then and there. Mentioned that the trust was gone along with the rest of my desire to be with him any longer. He stayed in front of the gate. Begging me to reconsider and listen to anything else he wanted to say. He even mentioned that he didn't hit me at all. But how could I make up something like that? I wanted to strangle him. Making me seem like a liar. A part of me still loved him. I wanted to hold him and smell that cologne he always wore. Snuggle up in his arms and bury my face in his chest while he told me everything would be okay. He did that for me a lot when we were together. Thats all I wanted. For things to go back to the way they used to be. Before all this mess. He stayed away for a while. Two... maybe three weeks. I was okay. I missed him here and there but not enough to reach out. He texted me. Something about the new Finding Dory movie that came out. We had promised each other that we would watch it together. The movie theater was our thing. Now I'm not one to go back on my word.... so I went.
It was as if nothing happened.
Everything was normal. He wasn't aggressive or angry or upset. When he dropped me off he apologized time after time again and i was sick of being reminded of what happened. I told him to forget it. He rolled a blunt and we smoked. Talked things over. I wasn't ready to get back together. We both needed to do some reflecting. After that night, the next few nights we hung out. Just smoked here and there, grabbed a bite to eat. Nothing major. Things were going smoothly. We reestablished our relationship and the new boundaries necessary to make things work. Before you know it, we were back together.
My parents were not happy about that.
They questioned me. They couldn't wrap their heads around it. And to be honest, neither could I. My mother told me to really think things through. Did she really think I didn't? I wanted to make things right. I mean, everyone deserves a second chance right? He wasn't the only one at fault. I played my part in all this too. He was angry for a reason. Still, my ideas and reasons weren't good enough for them. Not my parents, not my siblings, and definitely not my friends. They didn't understand. They couldn't understand. Everything that I had been through with Moe. From sleeping in his car when I had no where else and letting me take it to work, always making sure I had something to eat, taking care of me when I was sick and none else would, going to church together, we really grew together. At the same time i knew that if I had a friend in my situation, I would be telling them the same thing they’re all telling me. Theres no excuse.
Boy should I have listened...
We continued on and off. The lack of trust changed us. There was no trust. Even though he claimed he did so much. He was constantly trying to see my phone and manage who I spent my time with. I was being micromanaged. It was too much for me. Hung out with my photographer often. He remains to be one of my greatest friends today. One day Moe called me 85 times. I couldn't even use my phone. I was embarrassed and irritated. I didn't want to do this anymore. But I did. over and over again. I forgave and forgave expecting something to be different. I had the day off. We decided to do something together. Spend they day at the park and then head to a movie. He asked me something. His old buddies form the marines were in town with nothing to do and they wanted to spend some time with him before they all wen home or got shipped off to different stations. Who was I to day no?
I damn sure should have.
The night before we spent the night in a hotel. The guys in their own room and Moe and I in ours. At first we chilled in their room. Drinking and getting to know each other. They were a weird bunch. A couple nerds and one douchey pretty boy. None of them intimidating, none of them intelligent. As the night went on i got tired. Moe walked me back to the room and said he'd be back when they decided to call it a night. I woke up the next morning next to Moe. I guess he came back and I hadn't noticed. When they called our room they mentioned something about breakfast. I was dubbed decision maker since i was the only girl I suppose. Denny’s it was. We gathered in the parking lot and packed our stuff into their car. Moe didn't have a car at the time. (Some company repo’ed the first one and the second one was an $800 pice of crap.) It was about 11am and they had decided to start drinking beers. More like chugging actually.
Do Marines really get that bored?
Anyways, after two beers in the parking lot, we headed to Denny's. We got out of the car which meant another beer. When we got inside, there was a long line considering it was a sunday morning... another beer. I waited inside. It seemed like they were already drunk. We ate and then headed to Balboa Park. Didn't really walk around. Just got out of the car and stood there really. Super uneventful. that was, until they pulled out a massive bottle of Captain Morgan and a two liter of Coke. I wasn't drinking that shit. I was over the entire day. thats all they did! Talk about stupid shit and memories and drink. Thats not my idea of fun. It wasn't long before one of his buddies looked weary. I backed up. I knew what was going down... in they case, coming up. He sloshed his body forward and hurled everywhere. Drank too much.
Idiot.
They got him in the car and we drove off. People in the parking lot were beginning to stare. I was so embarrassed to be around them. Moe drove us away. He had been planning to get a manual car so his buddies let him practice on theirs. After stalling on a left turn, we hit this spot we call “the wash.” Moe and I would go there to smoke. It was a cool place in a tiny residential area. If you hopped the fence, you'd be sitting atop the La River. It was quiet and we had the place to ourselves. Seemed like most of the guys were pretty hammered at this point. They stopped drinking and began to teach Moe how to drive a stick shift. This went on for about 3 hours. I was bored out of my fucking mind. I wanted to leave. We ended up deciding to Watch a movie. Before we arrived, one of his buddies decided to smack the driver in the face. Since his glasses flew off we stopped in the middle of the road until he could SEE and safely pull over to the sidewalk. This guy was so drunk, he and Moe got into a fight. Thats when I told Moe I wanted to leave. The guys drove back to SD and i was suck on the side of the road with Drunken Moe. I was cold. It was already about 7pm and it was getting late. I suggested that we walk to the movies since we were already on the corner of the street. He said no. He was so upset that he got into a fight with his friends before they all left. It was the last time they were going to see each other for a while and this is how it ended. I understood his feelings and why he was so upset but i figured he would be a little more concerned for the person who gave up the day so he should spend time with them. I was pissed. I told him I was walking home. I know what you're thinking.
“Why didn't you Uber?”
Fist off, my house wasn't too far. Maybe nine blocks or so. I wanted to clear my head and spend some time alone before i went home and had to come up with an explanation for my parents on the spot. Second, I was short on money. I knew i could use that money for something more important like food. So he followed me. Even when i asked him to leave me alone. Not only did he follow me, he yelled after me, He grabbed my arms and twisted my backpack around me so that I couldn't escape his hold... It was bad. When i finally got to the stairwell in my apartment building, enough time had gone by for him to have sobered up a bit. I told him i was scared of him. The same kind of scared that i was in the car. He didn't understand. He yelled at me for bringing up the past. He didn't understand that i was referencing the feeling. I wanted him to understand how i felt. I guess he wasn't sober enough. I tried to move past him to get onto the second floor. My apartment was the first door from the stairwell. I was so close to home. Thats when he pushed me. I fell down about 5 stairs and curled up in the corner. By the good graces of God, some neighbors came into the stairwell. If Moe was afraid of anything, it was other people seeing him abuse me. I pushed past him and went home. Again, he tried to apologize. He showed up at the front of my apartment to stop me from getting into an Uber so we could talk. The Uber driver threatened to call the police but that didn't stop him from holding my door open. I got out, shoved him away and closed the door and locked it.
This was NOT love.
I always wanted someone to fight for me. Someone that would risk anything for me. But not like this. This was fucking psycho. I wanted out. I broke up with him over the phone that day. We haven't been together since.

THINGS TO DO IN SAN DIEGO
If you love adventures this is the best place to spend your vacations. The major San Diego attractions include walking through the frothy surf of Coronado Beach, hiking along the sandstone cliffs of Torrey Pines State Reserve, or admiring the postcard-worthy scenery at La Jolla Cove.
Balboa Park
This 1200 acre San Diego attraction is the city’s cultural hub which is located in downtown San Diego. A great place to stroll, picnic or bike ride. At the starting of the park is the Botanical Building, one of the most photographed places in Balboa Park. It features 2100 permanent plants, a cactus garden, a Japanese style garden, rose garden, and palm tree canyon.
There plenty of San Diego attractions residing here including Old Globe Theatre, the Spreckels Organ Pavelion, the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Museum of Photographic Arts, the Model Railroad Museum and the San Diego Hall of Champions Sports Museum.
San Diego Zoo and Safari Park
One of the most famous San Diego attraction is this 100 acre establishment. It is one of the largest zoos in the USA, housing rare and endangered animals in the world, about 3,500 including giraffes, giant pandas, polar bears, elephants and koalas, to name a few. There is also an option to get a bird’s eye view of the exhibits with Skyfari aerial team. If that’s not enough move to the Safari Park, 32 miles north in the Escondido which includes meerkats, lions, zebras, gorillas, bald eagles and cheetahs – roaming free. There are various safaris – a zipline safari and a caravan safari.
Torrey Pines State Reserve
This beautiful San Diego attraction features 1,750 acres of unspoiled land, protecting various types of flora – about 3,000 Torrey Pines, America’s rarest pine tree, also houses one of Southern California’s last salt marshes and waterfowl refuges. There are various trails which are offered including – the brief Guy Fleming Trail (0.7 miles round trip), the longer Razor Point Trail (1.4 miles round trip) and a beach trail that leads to Torrey Pines.
Coronado Beach
Families and couples usually love to be at this San Diego attraction for its fewer sunbathers and calmer waves, clean sands, peaceful atmosphere and idyllic location in the “Crown City”. There are plenty of picturesque sceneries to admire. The historic Hotel de Coronado placed just beyond the sand, offers ice skating which is loved by many visitors.

San Diego Courthouse Wedding Photos | M + R
San Diego Courthouse Wedding Photos | M + R As a San Diego courthouse wedding photographer, I am seeing more and more of my clients opting for a second location. With Balboa Park being so close to the San Diego County Administrator building, it’s a no brainer! Some like to have their couple portraits taken at both locations, waterfront park and then Balboa Park. Some like to head over there…
