<<I realise its a few days ago now and you might be wondering 'what tiktok?' but I've been writing in snatches when I have a few minutes so it took a while. Anyway, here it is...>>

A few posts I've read have suggested JK did the silly>sexy Tiktok challenge backwards. That he did sexy>silly instead. That he was being random and funny.

I disagree.

What he did was unexpected, a little left of centre, and for the people who can read subtext, not random at all but very very clever.

I'll tell you why, (It may not be what you think) but first I need to vent about two things:

1. Give the man some credit. He knows what he's doing.

There are some who love JK but who see him as a naive innocent. He is not. He isn't a child or a himbo.

Saying he did the challenge just because it's trending, and he reversed the order of the content for a bit of a joke, is insulting to him as an artist. It would suggest he has no forethought or understanding of himself or his (global) audience, and his decisions are made on impulse with no idea of the consequences.

He's very intelligent and has plenty of experience with digital media and creating content. Besides being involved in producing complex visual narratives as part of BTS for the last ten years, he has directed and produced seven highly polished and professional GFC videos. And don't forget the MVs for Life Goes On. For the October issue of Vogue Korea he took on the role of Creative Director. That's a pretty big deal. So we can assume he knows what he's doing.

If he produces content in a particular way, it's because it enables him to communicate what he wants to communicate.

2. You may not understand the message. That doesn't mean there's nothing to understand.

A heads up to people who can't work it out... your inability to grasp meaning doesn't equate to 'no meaning exists'. Suggesting that people who recognise what he's doing are reaching or delusional is an insult to both the audience who can read this situation, and to Jungkook, who is sharing his message.

Consider a system of writing you can't decode. Lack of comprehension doesnt mean the writing is meaningless, it means you don't understand the language.

Even if you believe you understand what's being said, please recognise that context may play a role too, that it could reveal a richer and deeper message. Don't just assume the easiest (laziest) interpretation is correct.

(You may have guessed, someone suggested I was 'behaving like the cult' when I pointed out that JK's tiktok was more than being funny ... and now I'm mad 🤣)

What was he was really doing? And why is it not at all random?

Let's take a step back to recall what army has been saying about this...

Almost every interpretation i read suggests he reversed the order (silly>sexy becomes sexy>silly). The reason given is that his tiktok only makes sense if the order is reversed, and this idea is backed up by the caption saying "I go the other way".

But the 'reversed order' theory is based on a hereronormative perspective of what's sexy (and a stereotypical perspective of silly.)

So consider the content of his tiktok from a queer point of view...

For a man in a relationship with another man, the idea that he's with all those women is silly.

It's silly to believe he's got a girlfriend - or several. It's silly to think the womens' names in the song are relevant to him.

He posted this tiktok at a time when he's releasing music that fits the western pop norm of boy + girl, and when rumours of him dating several women at once are rife. The timing is not a coincidence and nor is the choice of background song for this.

All these assumptions and rumours are pretty silly, JK is telling us.

Now let's talk about the second part, the sexy part. Yes it may look silly on the surface, but we have seen him and Jimin make dorky faces at one another when they're flirting. It seems to be the visual equivalent of calling Jimin 'Jiminssssi'.

It's just another way they create distance and avoid 'getting caught'.

Maybe sexy for Jungkook actually is lying on the couch in your sweatpants making corny faces at your boyfriend.

Remember that he puts out 'stereotypical sexy' on command as part of his job so maybe that doesn't feel very sexy to him. Maybe that's work.

In my view (I know this is subject to interpretation) they've been together for years now. This is not the first flush of love. When you've been with a partner for a while, sex is (hopefully) more fun and less serious. Maybe it's about having the confidence to be wholly unselfconscious.

(My partner makes a Pepé Le Pew face at me when he's goofing. No, i don't know why either... 🤣🤷)

But wait, what about that caption?

My beautiful Korean friend (who sadly has zero interest or care about jikook) confirmed the literal translation:

Did he just WASTE all that time?

He deliberately chose to do this.

He did it knowing ARMY studies every action, every video, and every media release.

He did it knowing ARMY would already have copied the video before he took it off his profile.

He said on Stationhead that he knows ARMY has it, and is sharing and posting it. He's FINE with that.

So he took the time to create and upload that video. He wants it out there.

He just doesn't want it on HIS page. That's an important part of the story.

So lets go back to the caption.

i think barty specifically always operates on these two valences where he is BOTH hyper-competent when it comes to compartmentalizing feelings and Completing Tasks, AND able to do this while not actually caring whatsoever <- and this is a source of envy for the others, who want to do this but can't. i think regulus is able to resolve a lot of emotional crises (where he would otherwise need comfort) by seeing how little barty cares and emulating it

but i actually COULD imagine barty whipping out the most phenomenally improved pep-talk ever, actually. barty is good at knowing what people need to hear & how to say it, but whether he genuinely believes what is telling them is a MUCH different story.

i also think his tendency when someone close to him asks for comfort is to offer sex. this is also meaningless, but he has a pathology where he conflates any feelings of warmth or friendship (scary) with sex (guy who is so so ran-through) and i think this leads to the trope of all his friends carelessly fucking him when they are having any emotional crisis whatsoever. he's the one offering.

he'll probably dutifully blow their back out without thinking much about it, give them earth-shattering emotionally intelligent advice afterwards (super casually, but hollow. he is not taking this advice himself ever) and then you don't see him for a few days. he goes quiet. So we know how Clover feels, but how does humanity as a whole feel about the fact that Asgore and by extension monsterkind... murdered six children to acquire freedom, even if their seventh would be victim insists that their totally cool now? (Yes Clover sacrificed themselves, but only because they were essentially backed into a corner) Is there no tension or outrage? Did it just... not come up during negotiations What did Frisk possibly do to prevent monster-human war the sequel? (nothing against this AU specifically, it's just a long standing pet pev of mine with post-pacifist fiction and I'm curious to see how you address it.)

Bonus Questions:

Does anyone outside of Clover's circle know that they where originally one of those six children? If it's widely enough known how would it impact the above questions? (Though I doubt Clover would be batting for Asgore anytime soon)

Did Frisk ever tell Clover about their confrontation with Asgore and how Asgore essentially threw his fight against them? How did they feel that their sacrifice was almost rendered meaningless were it not for Flowy's intervention? (Leading question I know)

this is a less monster clover ask more undertale in general but i have some Thoughts regardless;

I think humanity in general would not be happy with what Asgore did. I think he would try and take the blame for it entirely (as he should) and ask for humans to not fault the entirety of monsters for his mistake. hes the one who did it, so let his people go.

so while there WOULD be a lot of asking for humans to not blame monsters, i imagine the reception would be mixed. in real life people have a lot of displaced hate for entire countries filled with innocent people bc of their shitty leader. so. i imagine it would be tense no matter what LOL. i dont think there would be a war because.. well. i imagine asgore taking the fall for them would be enough (or maybe im just dreaming LMAO)

and there would be lots of people advocating for them as well! taking their side bc. they were literally forced underground because of humans and displaced entirely, so they cant really fault them for doing what they did?? they were literally trapped in hell for years. anyone would do anything to get out of a situation like that. and it was their king who did the killing, the monsters were just trying to survive.

and for the bonus questions, i dont think anyone would know who clover is! they keep their head down throughout the negotiations and such. to humanity they are just another monster trying to get away scott free, not a human advocating for monsters

I have HC from 2002 until now hahaha--Here's a few sonic/shadow specific things that might be interesting?

I combine details from the Archie comics and Sonic X and mix them with the main lore from the games btw.

-Sonic ghost writes/secretly produces a lot music in response to the things in his life. "Live and Learn" was his direct response to shadow's presumed death.

-Shadow and maria are like siblings in my AU, but his relationship with her and Gerald would shape what he expects from relationships in his life, in the same way your parental relationships would shape your expectations for men and women.

-On the ARK, the scientists grew very fond of shadow, often petting him or scratching his ears. Maria would often fluff up his fur, like you would a dog's cheeks. He now understands this kind of affection is more of a human-pet thing and it's kinda inappropriate as an adult... but he misses it.

-Sonic jokes that shadow is like a dog a lot, because he likes being pet and laying on sonic's stomach...and one other reason.

-Sonic isn't as aloof as he seems and he knows how to read the room, and shadow. He once heard that shadow liked Doritos, so he got him a value box of all the flavors and left it at his house without telling him and never mentioned it, so shadow isn't sure if it's even from him.

-Shadow and Omega are like brothers, with Omega often trying to out do or impress him. Sometimes Shadow gets too competitive and they fight, with topaz having to break them up...Rouge just laughs and watches the carnage.

Some deeper stuff:

-It's hard for sonic to truly hate someone or refuse to help them, which has become a big struggle with people around him...and himself. He is certainly a redemption-oriented person and gives people a choice to be his enemy each time they interact, rather than label them as such.

During the Doom situation, sonic wasn't afraid of being killed by shadow, rather, he was afraid of shadow doing something he didn't want to do.

-Sonic doesn't believe that life has purpose or reason, instead he thinks people should find their own meaning and value. "It doesnt matter". He lives in the moment and enjoys as much out of it as he can, because he knows he could die any day.

-Shadow is horrified by the idea of life being meaningless and struggles to see how sonic can have a fruitful life feeling this way. The concept fills shadow with dread and gives him an existential crisis...He struggles with the idea of possible immortality because it means anything he gains will one day vanish, just as before.

Sonic thinks shadow should live the same as him because he'll outlive it. He wonders if shadow should document everything as a way to appropriate it...

A big part of sonadow for me is how they learn that different people need different things. Shadow doesnt want freedom in the same way that sonic does..

hi!! i loved your post about deltarune's metafiction and its (not) escapist themes, and it got my brain jogging, like... i guess ive just been thinking "why"? like ive heard that take before and i think its valid, but also like. why ? its obvious enough to me that deltarune uses the lightner/darkner relationship as a reflection of the player/game relationship and both of these things are addressed critically, but i can't help but wonder if there's a driving force for it all, outside of deltarune. like i can accept diegetically the darkners are not, or shouldn't be, subject only to the whims of lightners, but with any good story if you break it down to its core is ultimately saying something about humanity or the world and such. i mean i seriously doubt the people who seem to think that Toby Fox intends to induce *actual* guilt into the people who fund his life's work and career by purchasing his videogames, like, it's obvious that "you are a bad person because you play this videogame" isn't the intended message, nor was it in undertale. but then, what is? what is the purpose of a story that invites us to think of toys and game characters as "real"? not to trash my beloveds but i mean, literally speaking, their lives DONT matter, they r not real. it just feels like ive seen a lot of discussion about 'what' toby is doing with the narrative but i feel like that's only half the ordeal, the other half would be the reason why. my first thought was that the implicit 3rd thing being compared to the light-dark, player-game thing is actual social hierarchy IRL in which people are oppressed by another group that doesnt see them as human, bc iirc toby talked a bit about feeling powerless and wanting to do more to change the real world on real issues in an interview in 2020ish and of course there's the snarky gag about the fedora plugboy who doesn't like politics, so he doesn't care that an evil ruler is taking over the world. im not sure if that sits right with me as what the intention is (esp because the latter is a darkner talking about another darkner) but i couldnt think of much else although i do feel like a fallacy people get themselves into a lot in the fandom is the assumption that toby fox is this Impeccable Writing Machine and not just like A Guy. people make weird or flawed art sometimes, it doesn't *have* to adhere to standards. maybe deltarune is meaningless (or the meaning IS that it's meaningless, as though to complete the metaphor of it being a "real" fictional world, because if it is 'real' then like our world there is no "answer" or "purpose", it simply *is*.) dunno! im not expecting it to boil down to a simplistic fairytale moral like "dont bully people!!" or something, mr. fox tends to write more convoluted than that, but i feel like if there's something to be gained from this particular part of the game's story then i'm not sure i see the vision. what do u think? do u think this question is even answerable with only two chapters?

respectfully, I do heavily disagree with the notion that good stories necessarily have to say anything about the world or about humanity. one of the reasons I like metafiction is that it usually says something about how stories are constructed, and that's enough for me. there's plenty of stories that have bigger themes that aren't really all that much about human nature, at least, not directly. a story can comment on one specific thing without necessarily making a broader statement about people, you know? not every story has an easily explained moral lesson.

that being said, yes, this plot element is in service of deltarune's larger themes! which are about agency, control, fate, and identity.

deltarune's fate theming and its metafiction elements are a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation given how interlocked they are, but I've found it helpful to describe deltarune as a "person vs. fate narrative that uses a metafictional lens to characterize fate." rather than the three fates of greek mythology or whatever dictating its characters' lives, it is instead the structure of the rpg their world was made to be. they are player characters. they are npcs. they play specific roles in the narrative. no one can choose who they are in this world.

control is emphasized in this story. there's the control we have over kris, of course, and in a much subtler way the control we have over the world through them. there's the darkner-lightner hierarchy, which parallels our dynamic with kris. i would argue that there are even social forces in hometown which also serve to place the lightner characters into specific roles. under this level of control, it's hard for characters to push back and determine their own identities.

all these forces combine to mean that deltarune's characters are fighting back against the narrative itself! which says stuff about people's agency, and the way rpgs are written, and how we interact with all that...

ultimately, you can apply this to real life. even if there aren't things like "fictional people who are actually real," hierarchies of control do exist in real life. narratives that erase the agency and internality of certain types of people exist in real life. it's admittedly a rather general statement, but like with any narrative about fate, seeing characters resist rules that are seemingly written into the fabric of their existence can make you feel inspired to also define your own identity! and to be transgender. don't forget to be transgender

despite having no personal quest, deacon is still (imho) the best written fo4 companion because hes a filthy fuckin liar. you cant take him at his word with specifics, forcing the player to actually pay attention to his actions. we know things about him not because he dropped all his lore on your lap, but in spite of all his claims. you have to think for yourself. theres a terminal entry corroborating him changing his face (he looked like a ghoul for a bit), so we can reasonably believe him when he says he had a feminine face once. we know he cares about synths because he shows us he cares by risking his life. when he lies and says hes a synth? thats not meaningless. hes checking to see if you treat him differently. hes also proving that he really does believe "synth" isnt a dirty word, because he doesnt immediately go "haha jk. you didnt actually believe that, right?", hes comfortable with being mistaken for a synth. he seems genuinely sorry for something he did to synths in his past, so personally i believe that at least some parts of his claimed backstory are true. we see him treated as a necessary annoyance by the rest of the railroad, so we can believe him when he says sole is his closest friend. he doesnt just have a "we're besties" speech, he has to show you how much you mean to him because otherwise no one would believe him

If I was to rewrite victorious Andre would be a cool trans guy who everyone in the school wants to go out w but hes actually secretly (not as much as he’d like to think, but still) pining for Cat, who’s actually aroace and pretty oblivious to his feelings, but she does entertain the thought of being w him which results in some silly situations like:

Tori would be this one highschool kid who has gone to one too many identity crisis in middle shool regarding her gender and sexuality and has simply given up on labeling themselves. When she comes to Hollywood arts and the coffee incident happens there’s no romantic or sexual tension w Beck whatsoever (but Jade still hates her out of spite), they become very good friends w Andre just like in the show, is also good friends w Cat and Robbie and forms this unapologetically gay rivalry w Jade.

Jade is basically the same, just maybe less cartoonishly evil?? Still a lot of anger issues, bisexual she/they energy. breaking things and scaring the shit out of ppl. She dates Beck by the beginning but they very obvsly dont get along and its js as delightful as it is annoying hearing them argue abt everything all the fcking time and rant abt how much they hate each other js to not break up (they will eventually, dw)

Beck is not changed much, just more consistent. Sarcastic pretty boy, good actor, very blunt and open about his feelings, simply impossible to scare (maybe that’s why he managed to date Jade for so long💀)

Robbie is js the same weirdo w a puppet, except in this he’d lean more into a asshole-nerd trope. Is a fucking cunt to everyone, probably has big ass crush on Beck that he’ll never admit, flirts w every girl he sees out of insecurity, etc.

In this concept Rex is pretty much his own person, but since Robbie is a jackass then they are over all more similar, Rex still “bullies” Robbie, but it’s slightly toned down as they probably enjoy the same kinda things, have more compatible personalities, etc. Robbie’s js more awkward about… welll, everything.

Trina is still Trina, except we’d treat her like a actual character and not some “look, she’s bad at singing” joke

Cat is similar to her early seasons’ version, she is kinda dumb, volatile and weird but not completely out of it. She kind of knows how to play people (especially boys) to get what she wants. Most of her dumbness would actually be translated into obliviousness, Cat doesn’t notice thiings, she’s always in her own world and doesn’t rlly care abt “normal” things

In this Andre and Tori are best friends (none of the og chow fuckery where they claim beck and andre r besties somehow)

Cat and Robbie are completely platonic on Cat’s side while Robbie makes a few moves on her once in a while (w/o any intention of actually dating her)

Jade and Tori are just gay. I can’t really explain any way else. It’s the same as in the show, just more explicitly gay. Like, in the way where Jade probably goes out of her way to make Toris life miserable but gets very mad whenever someone else does it (shes probably screamed “only i can make her life living hell” at students in hollywodd arts more than once). Tori is also meaner to jade in retaliation, but theyre both kind of into fighting each other so its not rlly that much of a rivalry and more of a amusing thing. Theyre also weirdly jealous of each other. Jade chases people down the hall with scissors whenever someone makes a move on Tori

Beck and Tori are 100% platonic, they hang out more than they did in the show (which fuels jades bother w them in the beginning) but remain abt the same level of closeness

Jade is.. less mean to Cat. Like they dont find bothering her as funny bc she js doesnt understand it and it ends up being meaningless, thats kind of the only reason they manage to get along

Cat and Beck r pretty much the same as the show, still kinda big bro and lil sis dynamic

Cat and Tori are like the girlies ever. They go shopping together, gossip abt everything and everyone bc they know that no one else likes listening to them

Beck is pretty chill, w Robbie, who as I said, is kinda gay for him, theyre not that close but also not not-friends

Andre and Beck are very close, they fight a lot abt silly stuff but always make up and go back to being bros in less than a day

Robbie is kinda mean to Tori but theyre twice as mean back so they make it work🫶

Jade intimidates the shit outta Robbie, he is a jackass to everyone except her bc he knows he’ll get his dick chopped off if he tries anything funny

to start i'll talk about some general fun stuff! (assuming that's what you're here for):

i always use they/them for pronouns for heinkel. mostly because there's a lot of alternation between he and she in different translations and that doesnt sound very cis to me honestly. but i rock with people who use any pronouns too.

i also see lots of ppl say theyre a lesbian and i feel like that miiight just be a byproduct of The Abridged Effect but i dont really have a label on them. they have their freak shit going on with makube so whatever that is

not a natural blonde and is very diligent about taking care of their hair. only lets their roots grow back in once they start getting older and stop giving af

gets a prosthetic arm and leg after the london attack. we know injuries inflicted before becoming a regenerator still stick around (because of anderson's scar) so walter inflicted permanent damage there.

didnt really listen to mainstream music until they started hearing it from other people like seras and makube. heard classic rock after twenty plus years of exclusively angelic choir music & opera and their brain almost exploded

their dynamics with other characters:

was raised with yumie/yumiko at the orphanage so they have a sibling bond, but they drifted a bit in their teen years/early 20s until enrico made them partners in section 13 again. it was awkward for both of them for a bit but they eventually came into their own as iscariot's dynamic duo of murderers. theyre generally pretty serious with each other but sometimes the cain instinct still kicks in

they view enrico as their boss but still fondly remembers their times together as a kid. mostly just thinks he's pathetic, but in a loving way.

anderson is a very clear father figure to them, and as iscariot's next regenerator after his death they feel like they have impossible shoes to fill; theyre very hard on themselves for that reason. the way he died definitely contributed to heinkel's self destructive habits

they had met integra through enrico before the events of hellsing and just... hated her to death. but in a funny almost homoerotic tension way. if seras was there she would have lost her mind over it and would have been overprotective to some degree

heinkel was rushed to the vatican (or maybe some other section 13 base) very soon after the battle of london, not a moment too late. if they were taken anywhere else they would have died of blood loss, but was given the choice to become a regenerator human like anderson for a chance to save their life. heinkel accepts because they believe walter is still out there and wants a chance at revenge. it worked and hence heinkel is now seemingly immortal/doesnt age.

side tangent is that i think becoming a Regenerator ends the aging process at whatever time you take it which explains why anderson's age is unknown and why heinkel looks the same in their supposed 40s/50s

after finding out walter had died and their battle was meaningless they were in a dark place for a long time. they were having trouble properly taking care of themselves after becoming a regenerator (i can imagine it's probably pretty weird!!). while still being a part of iscariot they were sorta benched by enrico's regent (before makube) from entering any of the organization's affairs for the next few decades. they were sort of left to rot in a way, which certainly didnt help with the grief. they considered reaching out to the hellsing organization but couldnt bring themselves to. they still somehow managed to become acquaintances with seras after the battle since they shared the same struggle and losses, but that's about it.

side tangent 2: i think seras and heinkel would genuinely become close after integra's death, but that's very far in the future

enter makube about 15-20 years into the timeskip. makube arrives in section 13 as a bishop and a new caretaker to heinkel, and is hellbent on helping them out, since theyre being "neglected" by the current archbishop, and makube regards heinkel as very important for being one of the few remaining veterans of the war in london. them forming a genuine bond would come afterwards, but that's how it started. overenthusiastic makube and tired heinkel shenanigans ensue and somehow they become tied at the hip. makube would become the archbishop quite a few years after this, and heinkel by extension sorta just becomes their de facto mission buddy.

as taylor has said many times, she wants us to come up with our own interpretations of her songs and attach our own stories to them.

maybe thats the reason why i thought of the peace lyric as not being the gossip but rather fuelling it.

maybe she's referencing all the other meaningless past feuds she's had (like katy perrie) or how immaturely she acted in previous relationships (like joe jonas) and is comparing them to his past, how despite this being his first public relationship especially with someone on whom we are focused 24/7, he acted maturely and carried himself with this grace and confidence.

"i talk shit with my friends, its like im wasting your honour" it could be that she thinks how publicly she picks sides during other peoples drama (selena-justin) is childish and petty compared to how he's dealt with his public life.

i'm not saying i know what went through her head while writing this but insecurity is a common human trait and its hard to be with a person all the time and not feel jealous of or try to adopt certain traits of them. just because swifties consider their relationship the pinnacle of maturity doesnt mean it is and like any other relationship, they too have certain "unsaid" discussion remaining between them.

i think the one thread that comes across for me in a lot of taylor's with-joe-era music is that she looks up to him a lot. like, she sees him as such a gentleman, almost like a white knight, especially compared to her previous partners (lyrics to ...ready for it? make this pretty clear)

and while all of her music is open to interpretation, and i'm not saying all of it is explicitly about her, either (she's admitted death by a thousand cuts was inspired by a friend's break up, for example), i think that her evermore era really felt like she was... it's not that she was seeing through the illusion (of joe as gentleman) but that she was starting to see that her perception of him meant she put herself in a box to suit him

i'm thinking about the lyrics to happiness especially (you could put champagne problems in this category too, but i was never convinced that was about taylor and joe)

in happiness, she describes a break up that could be anyone's, and that's true. but she sings

"after giving you the best i had, tell me what to give after that"

i think she gave everything to be what she thought would suit a reserved, proud gentleman like joe (or who she saw joe to be) and she could never make herself fit perfectly in with him

(even the lyrics to 'glitch', she says "fastening myself to you with a stitch" and that always struck me as self-effacing. might be overthinking, but it makes her sound like an appendage. like he's a person and she's a leech that gets to hang on for the ride. it's not a 'two jigsaw pieces fitting together' lyric, it's a lyric of desperately affixing herself to him so she won't lose him)

idk if my ask got swallowed by beast that is tumblr or you ignored it so i'll just ask again: do you think ser waymar royce in the prologue is a jaime parallel? he's a commander, young and handsome, cocky and snarky, and a son to a lord, who takes a final stand against the dark and dies bravely fighting an Other with no one else but the reader knowing of his deed.

nah imo. these parallels are pretty surface level. as for the these themes present in the prologue it is not exclusive to a single pov (especially would not say jaime) like this it just permeates the series as a whole. im going from memory here but waymar royce’s whole deal to me is mostly about class/feudalism/meritocracy (more like the lack of), westerosi primogeniture, and the tragedy of young men trying to put meaning to their existence in ‘war’ when there is no place else for them, see the NW also functioning as a place to shove the many knights, lords, criminals, smallfolk etc. with no land/income/resources because nothing is distributed in a sensible way in this feudal society. courage/cowardice/gallantry is significant in the chapter too (what is brave? what is practical? what is selfish and egodriven? is dying for nothing but some personal triumph of overcoming fear like this anything but tragic? is the inherent meaning within that action enough? is it more admirable to try to live to tell the significant tale which would actually save lives? and so on)

these themes r not exclusive to jaime (he likely was not even fully realized as a character by this point anyway), and i dont even think he deals with them in the same way. i do like the idea of jaime’s heroism not being known in whatever form that takes when it concerns endgame because it is poignant with him and his story, and if you want jaime’s story to end thematically on true bravery (i pretty much want the same) then for him imo it wouldnt really be about some gallant fight and ‘dignity’ in the face of death. like even if he falls against the others, at a deeper level it wouldnt really be about that. the text frames bravery as something that can only exist when one is afraid. jaime doesnt fear death. it is reinforced by his actions as well as two clear and sincere statements. especially death in battle. jaime does not want to live that bad, he is consumed by despair enough to not fear losing his life. jaime repeatedly being referred to as courageous by other characters is therefore deconstructed (gets overt especially when he is called craven by brienne during a very important scene), because he isn’t truly brave yet. jaime is afraid to “live.” more specifically standing up and facing despair and the horrors and contradictions of the world. that is what he keeps running away from, and why he stagnated so hard post aerys. he is terrified in the dream. and he is not terrified of powerful figures coming at him with swords, but them coming at him with contradicting oaths, his guilt, and complex truths. he is scared of loss and abandonment. his own darkness. and it is that terror of his light going out when confronted with these things and that truly leaving him in darkness that really scares him. that would mean all purpose being destroyed, and existence being rendered meaningless. “why would the stars want to look down on such as me?” is emblematic of that feeling. it would be the final push into complete nihilism. “choices”, the thesis of his arc, becoming meaningless. this is a big part of him never confessing the aerys situation, because if the result of the confession is like the one in the dream, then that is what will happen. it is deeper than ned, u see him expecting him to come out, but it is not him “it was never him.”everything would become meaningless if that choice of his, in its full context, would be rejected by his ‘heroes’. the whole thing is symbolic of an idealist burning out with his “flame” literally being withered by the complicated reality of what feels like a fundamentally unjust world.

which is why it is so meaningful that he jumps into the pit willingly and kills the beast. it mirrors the abyss that he is shoved into screaming in the dream. if you are not in the pit, you will never confront what you fear most. accepting the horrors of the world and and refusing to fight it under the guise of cynicism and nihilism is cowardice on his part. if you dare to have hope be reignited, it might result in the flame dying out for eternity. and there is no greater risk than that. that is what reconstructing “the brave knight” is about. this is also why he is only really afraid, and tyrion (who says he has never seen jaime afraid like this when talking about the similarities between his and joffrey’s eyes during the latter’s death, as well as repeatedly noting jaime’s bravery) notices it and is taken off guard by it, when he is confessing the tysha situation. imo, him being truly brave is confronting truth, confronting the darkness, and being brave enough to not let the light go out, just like the example brienne shows, and allowing hope to exist. allowing yourself to still care despite the horrors that rendered you so cynical. not letting that flame be withered and destroyed by them (is that flame your humanity, hope, or whatever else of the sort? i think the symbolism is ambiguous enough to allow and encourage interpretation, but i read it as deeper than just literal ‘life’. it is purpose to existence) as far as dying is concerned, i dont really care atp. it is kinda open still with cersei saying “you will die when the flames die” and brienne’s still burns, so there is light in “his darkness.” but i can see his arc potentially building up to some kind of tragedy/death. i just hope to see him believe in and understand true heroism by the end of his story, and know that his choices hold meaning despite the contradictions and that the horrors can and should be fought, no matter the cost, personal pride and fear and despair be damned. no more going away inside.

feast makes it clear that the vows cannot compromise, so it is time to choose. brienne is the key representation of that for him. and there is a reason her sword keeps burning. there is a reason he dreamed of her. a reason he dares to dream again. there is a reason he comes back.

and i think all that can still exist in a ‘tragic’ or a bittersweet ending.

-If you didn’t read that one long-ass fic or my (also long-ass) ramble about landiver as a couple, they went to like military academy together and that’s where their whole relationship began....also they never formally met Phoenix but he went to that same academy. Hawk, meanwhile, studied somewhere else...he was kinda always on a fast-track to a higher-level military position so he went to a more “prestigious” school...he aimed to be a captain or some higher rank for a couple reasons, but one of the biggest was so he could prove that a team could be run without the meaningless caste/social class-enforcing regulations and rituals he so much despised. 

-Giga and Mega enjoy when they have quiet nights to curl up and read books together....perhaps also with a glass of wine to accompany this.....Giga dozes off first, always.

-Hydra actually studies other languages for fun; right now he speaks German, and has a decent grip on English, Japanese, and French--he's currently trying to learn Chinese.

-Mega and Giga are really good cooks, and they are responsible for the banquet-type meals the Deceptions have sometimes. They also enjoy it, viewing cooking as a "labor of love" and enjoying the smiles on everyone's faces when they sit for dinner and eat. Now, while they appreciate help in the kitchen....surprisingly only Bullhorn is a decent cook and the least likely to break something (he actually puts effort into cooking/baking, it's a hobby of his)....so Mega finds ways to gently coax Cancer and Wilder out of the kitchen so they don't end up making a mess of things...💀✨

-The only Pretender who perhaps has never been to Cab's treehouse is Phoenix.....he's literally nowhere to be found most days cause of his job 😭 bro is literally gone for half the missions they go on too sjsjjssj

-Phoenix is a nice guy, really. He tries. To hang out when he's around, to remember names and come off as easy-going and funny, to be friendly (which he is), but he himself is a little awkward sometimes, surprisingly more of an introvert...he feels bad about always being busy...the kids (and the other team members) do understand and don't blame him for it, but he thinks about it a lot....after all, the Pretenders all know each other best because of all the ime they spent on their initial mission assignment....So basically, he's always been distant but he's not a distant person, its just his situation in life 😔✨

-The kids introduced Lofi to Hawk and he listens to it a lot while working, it helps him focus quite well.

-Diver never formally got his driver's license...he does know how to drive a car...it just deadass had never crossed his mind and then when it did..............he'd just forget 💀 Lander is usually glad to give him a ride in his vehicle mode tho, and on occasion, he'll be driving if he has to...just hoping in the back of his mind he doesnt get stopped or something

-Oh yea and those two hang out in each other's rooms in HQ all the time....on the whole, Diver goes to Lander's room more often tho (I believe there was an episode where they were in this room-looking space looking at the news together and I will die on the hill that was one of their rooms in HQ)

-After coming together with the other Godmasters, Roadking found a new hobby in poking fun at Ginrai and Ginrai would always have good comebacks; I mean come ON theyre both 19 and definitely have similar personalities, they most certainly argue and have a mild (friendly) rivalry (nothing serious, all /lh if you know what I mean 😌)

-Ranger is the chillest dude. He and Diver get along v well, and he is always amused to watch Diver and Lander go at it in one of their (ultimately pointless) discussions about motivations of characters in a movie they just watched or why there was a billboard with a misspelling in the slogan line on the road the other day.

-Lightfoot unironically really likes classical music over any other kind of music, and I say unironically because Roadking and the kids thought he was joking

-I swear I've mentioned this before but Ginrai regularly goes on non-work-related drives in his truck; he always did ever since he started working his trucker job, and still enjoys it, especially at night. And, now that he has a virtually indestructible transtector for a truck...he's got no worries. Hawk tags along when he's not swamped with work...they very much enjoy the time together, sharing music and sometimes stopping at random places on the side of the road for one reason or another.

-On a similar note, Wilder likes walks on the beach by himself. He has a lot of stuff to think about and gets pretty frustrated pretty fast so...it does him good to have the silence and alone time.

-Lander initially used to not need glasses but then over time (after he added glasses to his human disguise) because his human form wore the (random) pair for so long, he found his human body's vision deteriorating to the point where he finally dragged himself over to an optometrist one day for a formal appointment, where he ended up getting the right prescription...and all was right with the world

-Ginrai plays with the straps of his overall things when he's nervous/jittery.

-Buster is a coffee-enjoyer (like 1-2 cups a day, actually--) meanwhile, Hydra is a tea guy, like Giga. Mega will drink either, she has no preference.

-All the Pretenders have taken the kids out for some kind of training exercise at least once, but they've gone with Diver the most.

-Due to his previous occupation & personal interest (as a hobby), Ranger knows how to deal with & ride horses. He tried to teach both Ginrai and Roadking (initially it was just Ginrai but Roadking chimed in wanting to do it as well; Lightfoot is already something of a horseback rider himself, so he offered to tag along for fun) how to ride horses.........once. never again 😀

-nearly every single (human) character on both sides has some form of social media. And yes, they do congregate on Twitter for the most part (I have so many thoughts about this but I'll leave it at this for now)

-Lander has been known to make drunken tweets at odd hours of the morning and then when he's sober again....he really only feels like deleting the most heinous ones. He doesn't really care what he posts, especially cause he has all work-related contacts blocked on that account so...he's got no worries.

-Shuta's motorcycle-lookin bike thing is actually a regular motorbike turned into something way cooler as a whole separate job-related project by his father years ago...Shuta just started using it for himself one day and no one seemed to notice...so he kept going out with it.

-Sometimes, when he's working, Lander ties his hair back, especially when it gets longer (before he gets it trimmed)--he puts it in a ponytail so it doesn't distract him. (Sometimes he leaves it in and doesn't realize; Diver thinks it's cute)

-The Pretenders, while in their human bodies, do have stuff like heightened immune systems, quicker healing from physical wounds, ability to take higher levels of alcohol and such with little to no problems, etc......but they still have human bodies.....so it's not impossible they (and it does happen) get sick, break bones/sustain different kinds of injuries, get drunk, become generally physically exhausted, etc....like with food/drink, they can go way longer than the normal human without it, but at some point they'd need to eat something or they'd starve in their human form (just as Cybertronians need to refuel and stuff)........so......anyway......on the mild tangential connection to the topic of getting drunk......it is a mystery to all of them how bad Hawk is at holding alcohol...of all of them, he gets drunk the fastest, both in his Cybertronian and human body--whether it's energon or human wine, Hawk has a 95% chance of getting tipsy off even just the first glass....hence he is careful with how much he consumes...most times.

-Clouder is that one guy that will make multiple extra accounts to mess with someone. He has done this actually. No one wants to add him on discord servers as a 'friend' because they just feel the weird vibes his main account gives,,,

-The Deception HM Jrs would have been voted "best friendship trio" in their senior year of highschool superlatives contest had they actually gone to school instead of what they ended up doing (based on a real entry in my own highschool's superlatives contest btw haha)

-Lander drinks....a lot.....he has a lot of heavy thoughts. Especially after Shuta's dad died...he harbors a lot of private guilt about that. Diver, beneath much of their daily back and forth teasing, is always watching for signs anything is getting worse with Lander, and is always silently there for him in that regard. They often go drinking together so Diver can just make sure nothing happens to Lander. Lander knows this, and lets him...he trusts Diver, and they understand without needing even to discuss it; Diver's presence gives him confidence to gradually learn to pull himself out of these frequent ruts, and over time, he found his way back to enjoying drinking rather than using it as a way to attempt to forget the past. Diver was there the whole way for it :]

-Ginrai will not eat natto.

-As a Nagano native, Ginrai has absolutely taken members of the team to his hometown and the surrounding areas for sightseeing and other things :3 Also, Nagano is known for its awesome apples! (A/n: Actually real; I was there and learned about that/ate some apple treats....which were literally so good 🤤) so Ginrai is very fond of apples in general, always has been ^^

-Cancer and Browning are a KNOWN prankster duo 😎 (their victims are often the Decepticon Pretenders, mainly because those three STILL haven't figured out the pranking duo is Cancer and Browning, they just Know that Someone Out There is Up to something 🧐 this lack of awareness is the same reason neither Giga nor Mega intend to intervene either 💀)

-'King Poseidon' has no hobbies or passtimes, the Seacons just Rage wherever they are until they have to fight next...that's why King Poseidon is so fucking Mad

-while its true that Dauros was plotting some kind of usurpation of Blood as the trio's (unofficial) leader, he actually gave up because upon later thought....what was the point? It was just the three of them? So...he conceded to just let Blood do whatever and instead just be snarky with him. Gilmer is like a third wheel to this conflict, with no actual opinion on this at any point. He's just there to manically laugh alongside them while they carry out their Evil Plans™

-Hawk kinda has kitten sneezes (canon 💀😭)

-Diver actually doesn't like heights much....but you wouldn't be able to tell because he does his best to bear through it, especially during missions....it also helps when the distance from the ground below is not visible, so like "out of sight out of mind" sorta thing....but yea it makes him uneasy and (somewhat uncharictaristically) tense when heights come into play. Of course, it also helps a lot when Lander's there...he just focuses on the presence of someone who isn't afraid and that helps him not be as afraid of it for that moment

-You'd think Lightfoot doesn't have any interest in being any kind of jokester, but he's actually a serial pun-maker. Do not get him started, he will not stop, and he'll do it with a somewhat neutral expression too, which makes it funnier for the others 💀

-Bullhorn sometimes puts Cancer on his shoulders if they're in some kind of a crowd and the boy can't see, since Wilder and Bullhorn are tall enough to usually get a good view, but Cancer is usually not.

-Phoenix is the one monitoring airwaves the most (it's partially his actual dayjob to do something similar, so he does both that and work for the Autoboy team most days/nights); as such, he kept contact with the Headmasters quite often for a while...then they stopped sending transmissions...he hasn't completely lost contact with them but it's reduced only to emergency transmissions now....he misses the random conversations they'd have with him.

-Roadking really likes EDM, dance, Phonk, etc.

lawrence percival octavius ramsey sylvester sterling bartholomew jr ii is a wooden puppet/clock magically enchanted to come alive by his terrible terrible parents- however he has been lied to all his life and is entirely unaware that being made of wood is unusual and he believes hes a normal organic human and all that. his parents, clock and watch manufacturers, were killed by an angry mob after they used their magic to force people to work themselves to death, leaving lawrie extremely extremely depressed because he has been neglected so thoroughly he convinced himself his parents were very good loving people

WHY HE BECAME A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER:

one; after his parents death he spent a good year just in a dissociative coma before eventually attempting to return to acting like a human with meaningless minor motions, he wants to be a respectable man but has nothing to do so he begins to look for any job that will accept him so he doesnt continue just rotting in his home- if he has no job he has no purpose, two; the school he signs up to work at is evolution academy, an up and coming very well respected establishment advertising "unorthodox" teaching methods specifically trying to teach students practical things instead of what the headmaster mx dream deems as "useless" core curriculum stuff. lawries obsesssedddd with good image and what he sees as "respectable work" and real actual effort so he thinks the schools different approach is nice and he wishes to be a part of that, three; he has no qualifications, he never went to school and his parents hardly homeschooled him, despite this hed done a lot of reading up so hes not HELPLESS, but he certainly does not have any degree that would allow him to teach anything specialized, four; substitute teacher at ea means "mx dreams henchman" basically and hes forced to do all of the loose busywork around the school more than hes supposed to watch or teach students- mx dream specifically hires him because hes a fucking rube, major stunted attention whore who slurps up all the attention she gives him like a sponge and mx dream is intend to manipulate him, So despite his, to be frank, absolute fucking stupidity (hes terrible with interacting with people from, you know, the years of neglect) he is accepted into his position because due to that hes really, really easy to take advantage of (THE SCHOOL IS NOT GOOD), five; he really desperately wants to help everyone, he has an insanely strong sense of justice and right and wrong which is INSANELY SKEWED such that he believes capitalism and a strong economy will assist everyone- he wants everyone to have a good life and to get what theyre worth, genuinely, despite his idiocy approaching it, and he hopes working with younger people will allow him to help them- and he really, really hopes no one ends up like him or his parents. six; if he gets a job his coworkers are forced to interact with him Tee Hee hee attention whore moments

Instead of the usual colour scheme of the standard fizzies, he's got more earthy tones with a lot of green and brown.

His clothes resemble that of a green, striped tailcoat, rather than the usual jester-garb, its insides having a golden sheen.

At the end of his hat/horns, instead of bells, there are two souls-symbols

There are cuffs at the end of his trousers, instead of them flairing out like some clown bell-bottoms.

Functions

Oversees the Fizzy Factory located in the Greed Ring in Mammon and Asmodeus’ absence. When not running the ship, he has a couple of other tasks…

Guide newly made fizzies through their tasks and protocols, teaching them the ropes and disclosing what their life is going to be like from now on.

Going out to different fizzy-owners to do checkups on their status and condition all across the 9 rings. If an owner is missing/dead the fizzy needs to be returned or scrapped, if something is going against their contract (not lending out the bot to others for example, they need to get their own), or if the bot is missing for whatever reason… the Manager is the one who makes sure that the problem gets resolved, using whatever resources Mammon provides.

While he was originally meant for an office, and he now has other fizzies doing the paperwork for him, he still enjoys doing most of it himself. It was what he was made for after all, even if he is so much more by now.

Connections

Asmodeus: He designed him. He has met him a couple of times while accompanying Mammon, but has a hard time holding a conversation with him.

Mammon: He works directly under Mammon, he's a trusted fizzy, at least as trusted and respected as a fizzy can be. Whatever Mammon doesn't get involved in, he shoves onto him instead.

Therapist!Fizzy: He works alongside Thizzy when he does the psych-evaluations of the fizzies. While he doesnt think too hard on their relationship, Thizzy hates him.

All fizzies: He sees himself as every fizzy’s caretaker, and them as his little sheep that he needs to herd to make sure they make it safely across the meadow that is Hell. Sometimes you lose a few sheep but that's par for the course.

Mind

The Manager started off as Ratty, just another Office Fizzy meant to handle all the paperwork, contracts and lawsuits that were being thrown around all across the Greed Ring. Working at the factory, specifically handling the fizzy-related paperwork, they were starting to have problems with fizzies not knowing how to perform their duties. In a frugal move, Ratty was grabbed from his chair and tossed out on the floor, tasked to get the new bots in order and make sure they do as they're told.

And that's when the cycle broke. The same, meaningless task he was meant to do all day every day, had just expanded. After doing what he was told, telling Others what to do… Ratty got more influence. Fizzies came to Him, asking Him what to do, and even the hellborne at the factory began to do the same. His words got more power, his decisions actually Mattered, and in time, he had gotten rid of all the hellborne from the factory, who only got in the way anyway.

He had made the factory completely fizzy-run, saving money since the bots were free labour once they were made, and he was feeling like a million bucks while doing so. Ratty became The Manager, and even Mammon began to rely on him, bringing him along and even updating his design.

He is smug, sly, cold and calculated, and sees all the little things that you think you can hide from him. While he ultimately is a fizzy and has no influence over anybody else but other fizzies, he knows what strings to pull to get what he wants.

When it comes to the fizzies… His fizzies.. he feels responsible for them. He was there at the very beginning, after all. If they're not doing their job right, it's his job to make sure they get their shit sorted out. He's like a toxic parent, looking down on them and believing he has all the answers to their problems. He just needs that sense of control, to never fall back. To not lose everything and become a part of the masses again. To become one of them.
