1987 Buick GNX: A Rare Muscle car That Showed How Awesome GM Could Still Be

Let's talk about one of the most iconic cars from the 1980s – the Buick GNX. This car wasn't just a vehicle; it was a statement, a powerhouse, and a collector's dream even when it was new.

Here's What Made It Special

Ultimate Performance: In 1987, the GNX stood at the pinnacle of Buick’s turbocharged lineup. Its 3.8L V6 engine, enhanced with a Garrett T3 turbocharger and a larger intercooler, produced a formidable 276 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. Those were BIG numbers for the time.

Limited Edition: Buick produced only 547 GNX units, each transformed by ASC McLaren Performance Technologies.

It Wasn't Just a Hopped-Up Engine: The GNX included numerous performance upgrades like a reprogrammed engine management system, a performance suspension with a torque bar, and a unique GNX rear differential cover.

It Was Lightning Fast: This car could rocket from 0 to 60 MPH in under five seconds and complete a quarter-mile in just over 13 seconds, making it one of the fastest cars of its time, and capable of running with the Big Block Muscle cars of the late 60's.

It Looked Cool: The GNX had a menacing exterior with vented fenders, a lack of hood and fender emblems, and 16-inch aluminum mesh wheels with blacked-out faces and GNX center caps.

The Car Pictured Here is an Unrestored Gem: GNX number 155 of the 547 built remains unrestored with an incredibly low 12 miles on its odometer, showcasing its pristine condition. Still, too bad nobody has ever really got to enjoy driving it.

Luxurious Interior: This GNX featured a six-way power adjustable driver's seat, GNX-badged front carpet savers, and a special instrumentation package, making the interior as impressive as its performance.

Rare Documentation: It includes the ASC McLaren GNX window sticker, listing all the unique features that made it a Grand National Experimental.

It's a Sought-After Collector Car: With its unmatched performance, limited production, and unique features, the GNX has become a highly sought-after collectible in the classic car world.

ZR1 Corvette

This is a 1990 Corvette ZR-1 I purchased from the original owner in March 2022. It is my first and only barn find.

The vehicle was purchased brand new in Cincinnati, during June of 1990, and trailered to the owner's home in TN. After it was unloaded and pulled into the garage, it was left there for 32 years until I purchased it. The oil was never changed so, the original oil filter was still in place, as was the battery and air filter. The window sticker (Monroney Label) has never been removed.

I had the car winched onto an enclosed trailer and delivered to our home in KY. I've spent hundreds of hours cleaning and detailing, being careful not to alter original finishes and markings.

The vehicle was trailered to Haibeck Automotive in Chicago where Marc prepared the car to run for the 1st time in 32 years. All fluids were flushed and changed, seat bladders were removed and new installed. Every component now functions as new and it gets started once per month.

Since the car went 32 years without being driven, I've chosen to keep it that way. I have other cars to satisfy my desire to drive. The hobby has enough ZR-1s with plenty of miles, it doesn't really need another one. I plan to get it out to shows, on occasion, so others can see it.

Total mileage rests at 62.

I'm surprised there isn't much art of drones with tattoos/decals that aren't the caution stripes or leg patterns.

If canon or how it would be possible for a drone to get one I'd say treat it like how it works with cars. Get a wrap of either a solid color or design, automotive spray paint or airbrushing artwork, and stenciling

I guess the exact method would depend on what material you assume their casings made of. From what I've seen, the two main "theories" are either metal or plastic, either of which would make sense.

For metal, materials meant for cars should work like you said

For plastic, I'm not 100% how well automotive paint would stick. But I'm sure they'd be able to find a type of paint that works, or just regular stickers. Which is the closest I've seen to someone's OC having a drone tattoo

they wouldn't be as permanent as a human tattoo, but with the right materials and care, anything they put down should last long enough. If they want'd something truly permanent, I'd imagine a drone could create a shallow etching with a rotary carver

As for why we don't really ever see them. I suppose the fact that there's no canon precedent for it could play a small part. But there's also the fact that if you add one to a design, you'll: 1, have to place it somewhere visible and 2, have it be big enough to be clear from a distance. Otherwise, no one's be able to see it due to clothing or the design being unclear from far away. Which, if you take the usual drone hat and jacket attire into account, doesn't leave many places with enough room to do that.

That only leaves the arms, legs, hands, neck, and face. The necks are tiny, segmented, and tucked under the head, so that's not a good spot. The head itself is mostly screen or covered by the hat/hair, but you could place a sticker on the cheek or outer area of the screen The arms and legs are also very thin compared to a human, and segmented, so putting one there risks it getting cluttered with the segment lines Same with the hands, they have the segmented fingers and lights on the back side. So it doesn't leave much room to put one there without it getting cluttered

Disassembly drones have a bit more leeway with the arms and legs though. I think the ideal spot for visibility would be their forearms

Ignoring clothes though, the best spot would probably be the upper back, it has the largest unbroken area. You do have the rubbery area of the stomach and lower back. But considering we're using paint and stickers rather than the human method of injecting ink into the skin, I'd imagine the bending of this area would make the paint crack easily and stickers lose their adhesive (like trying to put a band-aid on a finger joint)

so I guess that makes the ideal tattoos for drones: forearm/leg designs (DD), facial stickers, knuckle tats (you get 6 letters max), and big yakuza style upper back tattoos

We had a meeting at work about what to expect with potential tariff adjustments….meaning Canada and Mexico.

We have been implementing the additional 25% China duty since 2020 when Trump was first in office and issued that executive order. People may not know that and that is partly why things have been expensive the past 5 years. Many of our items around our homes have “made in China” stickers so it makes sense.

Things have already sucked and now it’s about to get worse with him threatening both Mexico and Canada and this stuff now affects food, lumber, and the automotive industry amongst just the big stuff. Did you know we take Canada’s garbage and they take our nuclear waste? That’s a biggie.

We have a free trade agreement between the 3 countries (USMCA/CUSMA) that ironically Trump signed off on during his first term. This is why I’m so perplexed why he suddenly has beef with everyone. He could have eliminated the agreement altogether when NAFTA expired but he did not.

With all his threats regarding adding section 301 duties on these countries who frankly have done nothing, I thought well how does that affect this agreement? Surely it will override these additional duties. When importers have proper paperwork such as a Foreign Shippers declaration, they can claim 9801 on China goods coming in without paying the additional duties. Wouldn’t it be same scenario?

Today I was told no. Of course we won’t know final details until orders are actually issued (it has been crickets in this world), but because this would be issued under a special clause, an importer can claim USMCA but still be charged the additional 25%. Additionally, new details required may eliminate a USMCA claim altogether based on a company’s BOM (bill of materials) certificate. So anything that was ever duty free is now automatic fees on all goods. Of course if it’s anything like China, certain tariffs don’t even get the section 301 duties like board games lol. Fun fact for you!! How blessed we are that at least we can get those cheaply!

Honestly I’m so shocked. I shouldn’t be, but I really am. Again, no orders have been issued on the matter, it’s just talk going around down the chain. But if this does come to light, we are severely fucked. Then again, this is what I guess majority voted for. So thoughts and tariffs!! 🙏🏻
