A Father, A Son, and a Fury
In August 1979, my father, Dan Wellings, purchased this Plymouth Sport Fury GT from a longtime family acquaintance in our small town of West Union, West Virginia. The car had been in the area since it was new, and Dad had admired it all through high school. So when the opportunity to own it arose, he jumped at the chance. However, his time behind the wheel was short-lived. In 1981, the Fury got away from him—he ran through a fence on our farm and down a small hill. After a little heart to heart chat with my Grandfather, he decided to park the car. And so, for the next 44 years, the Fury sat in our farm shop, untouched, collecting dust but never forgotten.
As a kid, I dreamed of bringing it back to life. I’d often sneak down to the shop, sit behind the wheel, and imagine the rumble of the engine, the sound of the exhaust purring as I cruised down the road. One night in college, that excitement got the best of me. My buddies and I—after a little too much fun—decided we had to go see the Fury. Piling into my Ford Explorer, we set off down the mile-long road to the farm shop. But the icy, winding West Virginia roads had other plans—I ended up in a ditch before even reaching the car! So, if nothing else, Dad’s got one up on me. He wrecked the Fury out of excitement driving it, while I wrecked my “Exploder” just trying to see it. Fast forward to Christmas 2024. I told Dad that if he wasn’t going to do something with the car, I was dragging it out myself and making my childhood dream come true. He gave me the green light: “I haven’t done anything with it in over 40 years, and I’m not going to now. Go have fun.”
And that’s exactly what we did. What started as my dream became our dream together. I like to think my enthusiasm reignited a spark in my dad. Together, we’ve shared a tremendous amount of excitement and joy bringing this car back to life.
Today, the Fury isn’t just a car. It’s a symbol of passion, perseverance, and the bond between a father and his son.

The 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435hp is a rare and highly sought-after model, especially with its low mileage (49,750 miles) and historical significance. Being part of the first wave of 427/435hp cars built for the 1967 model year is a notable distinction. The fact that it has been in the same family since 1976 adds to its appeal for collectors, as it shows a well-preserved history. Additionally, the Tank Sticker Documentation is a key element in verifying the car's originality and authenticity, which is highly valued in the classic car market. These documents typically provide insight into the car's original factory specifications, and can make a big difference in terms of valuation and provenance. Having the car presented at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Show in 2025, thanks to Ralph Ronzello, provides an opportunity for Corvette enthusiasts and collectors to admire and appreciate this exceptional vehicle. It's great to see such a piece of automotive history being showcased!

The focus of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Show is 60's and early 70's American Muscle Cars, but...... We sometimes throw something unexpected into the mix. We have a very strict limit for late model cars, but this 2018 Z06 Carbon 65 Edition seemed like something MCACN attendees might enjoy seeing too! The car will be presented by Tyler Kelly of Sycamore, IL. You wont see many late model cars at MCACN, but when you do see them, they will be very cool!

"We are the 4th owners of the black 63 SWC. THe car was originally sold at Fresno Frontier Chevrolet. Not knowing anything about Corvettes my wife and I saw the car and decided we had to have it. When purchased the car was blk/blk.
After doing some investigating(trim plate) we discovered the car came originally with a red interior. We also discovered the 327 250hp engine was the base engine. The car was on display at the National Corvette Museum for one year and was used in the startup of the National Corvette Museum Insurance Company. It was judged at NCRS 2 years ago and earned the Top Flight Award. The car has the original engine, 4 spd transmission. We have never been able to find the original owner but the 2nd and 3rd owners have connected with us. The original owner is responsible for changing the original red interior to a black interior. I belong to the Southern California NCRS Corvette Club as well as Corvettes Unlimited of Vineland, New Jersey
Just wanted to add that the black/red 63 Split Window Coupe was used in ads by Corvette Central and to advertise  NCM Insurance when it began. The photo with the 53,63,73,83,93 and 03 corvettes was on a pamphlet sent out to all corvette owners that were NCM members. Patricia made a quilt of corvettes and place mats and coasters that were given to Jay Leno. The story about how we got involved in our 63 corvettes was used in Corvette Magazine three years ago.

"Mother's Mistake" was a drag car purchased by Grace Redmond for her son Tom for his sixteenth birthday. Raymond Jahnsen, "The Wrench",  campaigned with the crew around the Midwest during the '65 season. Afterwards, it was altered in '66 and then parted out in late '67. 52 years later the car came back to the family and was restored as raced in '65.
